I didnt mind playing as Abby because everytime something bad happened to her I loved it. But I cant bekeive the ending, Ellie should have won that first fight or they shouldve given us a choice, She had weapons and everything but because the writing is so bad she didnt win.The second fight was comeplete garbage she shoudlve just ended her but no, 7 years of waiting just for that man, wow. I trusted ND and kept my pre order but for them too kill Joel and not let us get justice is stupid. Scew Naughty Dog and screw Neil Druckmann.… Expand

    It's a great game with a fantastic story line. Sure some parts are grindy but they absolutely nailed the atmosphere. If you liked the first game there's a good chance you'll love this game too

When you buy a game and even more when you buy a sequel, the story and development of the characters are the heart of the content. The 2 most loved characters, not only from this game but from this generation of games, have seen no development. At the end, there is nothing to be happy about (nor is it understandable). If you just want something new to go through just pick another game.

    P.S. Critic reviews are literal garbage, the only decent thing in this game are graphics, no masterpiece whatsoever, just expectations and hype.
    P.P.S. An update: The game should have been more about the video game part ( zombies and characters we love) not one more kids book life lesson. Repeating myself here most likely, but this is what most hate about this game.    … Expand

    I made an account just so I could say, what the hell is wrong with these other reviews? This game is fantastic. Complex story of three dimensional characters that explores the morals and consequences of choices. The antagonists are sympathetic and interesting, the environments are stunning, and the gameplay is tense, varied, and fun.     Neil Druckmann does not understand the difference between surprise and suspense. The way Joel is treated in the sequel is nothing more than cheap shock value. Even worse, the way the game goes out of its way to have Joel (and Tommy) act so out of character is incredibly jarring.     Other than Jesse, the game also fails to make the new characters likeable. Dina feels like she’s just there as the token lesbian partner. Abby is just an all around badly written character. Her motivations are cheap and the game’s attempt to make you sympathize with her falls flat. Lev’s character arc is a hamfisted sermon of identity politics that does not make sense in the context of the post-apocalyptic world.

    A lot of people have compared this game to The Last Jedi and Game of Thrones: Season 8 in terms of how badly they butchered their characters. While these comparisons are apt, allow me to make another. The Last of Us 2 is a marginally better version of The Order: 1886. Both have great graphics, sound effects, and music. However, they suffer from an underwhelming gameplay loop and their stories are badly written. In my opinion the games story reflects the saying "If you're going after revenge then you may start digging two graves" and it does this beautifully. Theres also a difference between playing a game yourself to the end and watching someone else playing it, you dont get as invested. Es imposible llegar a sentir empatía por abby cuando asesina al protagonista del priner juego como un perro, creo que el fan service es malo en abundancia, pero a veces es un poco necesario, como espera naughty dog que los usuarios tomemos la idea de una muerte tan miserable para joel, almenos algo que trascendiera, pero sobrevivir a todo tipo de infectados para morir de esa manera, y despues ponerte en la piel de abby solo hace rogar por un boton para suicidarse, es imposible sentir empatia con abby de la manera que esperaba neil, creo que the last of us 2 sera recordado por haber sido repudiado en la comunidad, opacando todo lo bueno que tenia para ofrecer en los demás aspectos… Expand

    The only reason this doesn't get a 0 is that the game looks beautiful and the animations are really high quality. Also, the combat is just like the 1st game. All the rest is trash.

    I thought the game was fantastic, a masterpiece, a piece of art, just amazing. Not sure why people are bombing the reviews other than being a bunch of haters because the story was fantastic the whole game played like a movie.

    In Short TLOU2 is in my opinion one of the best PS4 games if not the best PS4 game of all time, the story is extrememly well written and the characters are very well grounded, the graphics are stunning and the gameplay copys a lot off the first game with added elements for example the ability to squeeze through tight gaps and enemys calling out to flank you.

    People are rating this game 0/10 after joels death. the reason for joels death makes narrative sense is as you play joel in the 1st TLOU you follow one man willing to do anything for Ellie his surrogate daughter (in a way). But as you play as Abby in TLOU2 you can see joel in a different light how he selfishly mowed down a huge majority of the Fireflys to save one girl and ruin the chance for a cure along with killing Abbys father.

    At the time where it cut to playing as Abby (The villain) i was wanting to get through it as fast as i could to get back to playing as Ellie, but whilst playing you notice there are obvious similarities between both Ellie and Abby, they are both stuck in a love triangle (Ellie with Dina & Jesse, Abby with Owen and Mel) both groups of people have someone who is pregnant and both characters parents have died.

    on the ending - at the time i was upset Ellie spared Abby but looking back on it i can understand why she did, these two characters and how much damage they have done to each other with nothing to show for it. If Ellie did kill Abby she would of spared Lev (Because Lev spared Dina and Ellie) and the whole cycle of revenge would of began again with Lev and Ellie (An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind).    … Expand

    Gameplay is almost identical to Last of Us 1. The only new mechanic is the use of a rope every once in a while, not a game changer. The story is awful. So many holes in the plot. Another failed liberal agenda.

    La trama principal trata sobre la venganza y de como una persona se auto-destruye cegad@ por la venganza, es un titulo muy adulto, la cual niños de 15 años no entenderán.

    El Gameplay es exactamente el mismo que el 1 con pequeñas mejoras como el tumbarse en la maleza, esquivar a los infectados con el L1, para mi este apartado es lo peor de este titulo.

    Los personajes son humanos con sus altibajos y sus puntos fuertes, son todos humanos, no parecen sacados de un videojuego.

    El primer flashback con Joel, se me ha caído una lagrima, porque fue muy tierno todo y no me esperaba volver a ver, ha estado bien que nunca jugaras con Joel,

    Y el final me ha gustado, es muy simbólico, dejando la guitarra que le dio Joel como diciendo que ha pasado pagina.

    Ojalá con el tiempo la gente se quite la polla de Joel del culo y vea lo buen titulo que es este TLOU 2, porque es un titulo de notable alto, valiente y con huevos a contar su historia sin tapujos.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have read many many comments on Metacritic which share similar sentiment. I actually agreed completely while reading them but then the approach ND took clicked for me. While not executed well - their whole point with this game was to reinforce in this dystopia there is no good or bad, and that even though we perceive Ellie and Joel to be 'better' than other characters ultimately everyone is just trying to survive the same as them. The love all fans have for Joel is supposed to initially cause outrage when he is killed by this random character and then the actions of Ellie in the pursuit of revenge are slowly supposed to open our eyes to the fact that even the most beloved characters can turn into monsters. I 'think' we are supposed to begin questioning Abby's own past before we flashback to her story and then begin sympathising with her character before the final outcome of the story.

    This is poorly done by ND for a number of reasons:
    1. They underestimated how great the bond between most fans and Ellie/Joel was. Further to this they underestimated peoples idea of what Joel and Ellie's characters are. Many people complained about Ellie not being Ellie in this game. Initially I would have agreed but after some thought I now understand ND were trying to show history repeating itself the same way it did for Joel with Sarah's death. The failure with this is there WAS NOT a strong support to replace Ellie, which left the game feeling empty throughout.
    2. They forced political correctness into the equation for no reason. Flavour of the month LGBT characters were so unnecessarily present in this game. Multiple times conversations can be heard from side characters talking about their L/G lovers. I have absolutely no issue with presenting any of the characters in this way but when 90% of the romantic relationships being displayed are non-straight it feels almost like ND were trying (and failing) to be satirical and takes away from the story.
    3. The order of execution was not done correctly, at all. LOU 1 had an absolutely insane beginning to the game. 15-20 minutes of game play then BAM! Huge curveball, Sarah is dead and Joel is crushed. Fade to black and BOOM we are 10 years down the line. By comparison this game gave away the spoiler before it happened without any kind of reasoning as to why it happened. I spent over an hour after Joel was killed wondering when he was going to jump out on Ellie and yell - "Surprise!", only to be sorely disappointed. But that doesn't mean the story was bad, just that it was poorly told. Imagine the same events happening in a different order: Fade in, backstory about whats happened the last few years with Joel and Ellie, Joel and his brother prepare to go on patrol (same as any other day), run into this stranger while on patrol, save her and head to where she has made camp as its only way they'll survive. SURPRISE! She actually came out looking to kill him all along. Now we play out largely the same story from here. Ellie gets in a standoff with this mysterious stranger. Stranger SHARES her story with Ellie while still in standoff. We continue on from there. Maybe leave in the option for Ellie to kill or spare Abby at the end (really depends if a game 3 is being setup or not from ND perspective though). But holy **** how much better would the exact same plot be in this case???
    4. Also: Scrap the Ellie x Dina stuff, scrap the stuff with Abby and Owen. The love stories were both sold so poorly with nowhere near enough buildup (and more importantly, no-one cared anyway). Small references through dialogue could have achieved the exact same effect. This isn't an anti LGBT thing, its anti poor story telling. LOU1 had hints with Joel and Tess that were so much more effective because they were subtle, heck even Ellie with her female friend/crush in the DLC was done better than this - and that was DLC, content deemed not good enough to be in the main game!

    Anyone who took the time to read this, much appreciated. Hopefully I've helped others also see the game a little more sympathetically. Sadly the reality is a game with alot of potential, that falls short where it matters most, the story. I gave 6 as I think less than this is an insult to the team of creators of which most (maybe even all) 'tried' to make an amazing sequel but miscalculated slightly. I hope if a 3rd game does come they will return to the storytelling approach from the first game.    … Expand

    My main problem with this game stems from Abby. Is Abby justified in killing Joel? Absolutely, he killed her dad, she is 100% justified in killing him I have no problems with that. What Naughty Dog fails to grasp is that even though i fully understand and agree with her character motivation here I still don't f***ing like Abby, and i have no logical reason to because she just killed our main protagonist from the last game. You guys spent an entire game building up Joel's character and making us care about him, we played the game as if we WERE him. But now? We're expected to sympathize with his killer? Not even that, we're expected to LIKE his killer, to root for her in same vain we did Joel. You literally control Abby in a chase/fight sequence against Ellie where you beat the hell out of her. Then at the end of the game when you're finally getting some payback the game decides Ellie is a bigger person or something and just lets this **** (who by this point has killed several/maimed several of Ellie's friends) just hop in a boat and leave. Sorry but nah. Cannot get behind this character and nothing in this story makes me want to.

    The game really wants to push the message that 'Revenge is bad'. Ellie loses pretty much everything in the end and can be seen walking off in the distance alone, the game WANTS us to think this is just the consequences to her actions but all it really feels like is more of a narrative contrivance. We spent this ENTIRE game on a bloodthirsty quest for vengeance to honor Joel's memory and take down his killer, only to be thrown through a loop in end when Ellie suddenly decides she's over it and let's Abby go? After she moments ago bit off two of Ellie's fingers?? And it feels like the game expects us to cheer at this revelation like Ellie has somehow overcome some ethical hurdle in sparing Abby's life? The narrative choices in this story just seem so out of touch with everything in the previous game and even the DLC that it's almost jarring. Nothing we know about Ellie would lead us to believe that she would spare Abby in the final encounter, but since Ellie can't be allowed to achieve her goal of this game or else the revenge message doesn't work, we now have to just stop and let her go in the climax of the final fight. Expert writing.

Since the first hour of the published I have been playing Part II and I was in a great mood ...All combat mechanics, local character ...As a "negative" point, I can say that we had to play a large part with Abby and Joel had to die at the beginning. To undermine the actual effort of those who worked on this game is unthinkable. The graphic is, as are all of ND games, very pretty (even photoreal in some part). The animations are top notch, as well as incredible voice actings.The increadible scenery of Jackson. The great dialogues between characters. The believable characters, even though some might disagrees. The small parts between Joel and Ellie are my favourites.

    But the story - man, the story..., how should I say this, left a bad taste in my mouth (not in a positive way, like some other movies, or game's stories...). It's very frustrating to see how Joel would go out like that - not just him, but also a very good character, Jesse. I think people here are too focus on the fact that the character, Abby, is transgendered or some other transphobic and homophobic reasons - I don't care about that.

    What I (as a FAN) wanted is a story about Joel or Ellie, because they were the main characters, that the writers and director do them justice, because they are what we were bonded to. We have seen their pain, their struggle and their story and we root for them. If it were some other ways Joel could have died, I would have no problem about it (I already expected him to somehow or someway sacrifice himself). It's just too disrespectful for him as a main character and for us as long time audiences.

    About Abby: As I said before, I have NO problem about her. She's a character deserve to live in that world. If that's how ND want this, then it is their choice. I don't think it even felt "forced" for her to be how she is. But I think it felt quite unpleasant playing as her for a large amount of the game. She is the one who killed Joel after all, and I can't connect with her character and personality because of that. The flashback part and the Ending part is the time I would not spend, had I know the plot.

    Of course the writers have the right to tell THEIR story and I very much respect that. It's the story they made, they can choose how they end it. But I say they made it quite bad... Ellie loss 2 of her finger, Dina, Joel, her childhood friend and can't play the guitar is the ending nobody wants. Abby killed Joel, Jesse, crippled Tommy and almost killed Dina, yet she gets away with it?. Why do you made this ending? Sure I should be sympathizing with her through her story line, but I didn't. I can't feel anything for her...

    I know I write this in the position of a biased fan and I think understand the meaning of the story. Yet it made me feel bad about spending time for such a story and, you know, feel sad...

    ALL AND ALL, I think ND made a good game, in graphical and overall technological terms. But the story is not really my cup of bitter tea.    … Expand

    Visually stunning and passionate, vicious combat and fun stealth.
    This game is better than the first one and anybody that doesn't agree is just wrong.
    They played the shock value in this game much like Neegan did with the walking dead, it's rough to experience, but builds on the drive of the main character.
    People need to stop being pu##ies and enjoy.

Developers made masterpiece, all their time involved in production... every detail, thank you for it :D I loved every minute of it. Game play is improved over the first part, AI is challenging and thers a great amount of action and stealth. Myśle że zakończenie tej historii jest genialnie poprowadzone (Jak i sama gra), wspomnienie które widzi Ellie przez sekundę podczas duszenia Abby nie oznacza "Joel by tego nie chciał/nie warto zabijać" tylko to jest nawiązanie do Ellie będącej w stanie spróbować wybaczyć Joelowi tego co zrobił, jednak nigdy nie miała szansy tego zrobić ponieważ dzień później Joel zginął. Skoro Ellie potrafiła wybaczyć Joelowi zabranie sensu jej życia i zniszczenie szansy na szczepionkę, zdała sobie sprawę że potrafi tez wybaczyć to, co zrobiła Abby. To jest jak rozumiem zakończenie tej gry, dla mnie jest ono najlepszym rozwiązaniem tej historii o kole nienawiści które rozpoczął Joel.     To sum it up, for a story-driven game it sucks BAD, but everything is alright to pretty good so if you don't care about story then go ahead, you'll enjoy it. But if you in it for the story turn back now and just keep your head-canon limited to the first game.    … Expand

    This game blew my expectations! Super amazing game play and open world exploration. The dynamics of the game play from the fight scenes to the intense story line were phenomenal. I know that most people won't agree with what happens to some of the characters but this game is just amazing.

Well let's start, the reason that I am giving five it's just because of the gameplay and graphics, it looks so awesome, but when it comes to story, it is so bad, they could have done so better, in the first last of us you kill thousand and thousands of people and only one of them has a daughter and that same daughter wants to kill the guy that killed her father, and the only info she gets it's his name, so you are telling me that the guy that teached Ellie and us (gamers) not to trust anyone by all costs, enters a mansion with 10/11 strange persons and say his name and where his hideout is it's just stupid, if you guys didn't noticed only when joel says his name the group started acting strange, if joel said another name he wouldn't die, it's like they killed Joel only for having a story!

The gameplay is very good and refreshing to play after all the other games out there however the story lacks majorly as Joel the main character of the first game is killed within the first 2 hours in a stupid way and makes it seem like he never should’ve survived the first game and then while playing as Abby I feel like it wasn’t needed in the game and fighting the main character Ellie in theatre didn’t seem realistic as Ellie seemed to not have any tracking skills or fighting skills the main reason why the game was such a let down was because of the ending if Abby was killed by Ellie it would’ve been a good ending to the game but as that didn’t happen it feels like the whole story had no meaning and it could’ve ended in a much shorter time… Expand

    First off, the leaks
    The leaks are what killed this game for many people, the ending and the characters were out of context in just cutscenes. You have to play through this game to understand the arc of the characters and why they do the things they do.
    Take for example the first game. Joel decides to save Ellie from having surgery, he kills innocent people and takes a chance of a cure away from the world. If this was shown in a few cutscenes, this would seem stupid. But if you play through the game and build a connection between Joel and Ellie, his actions seem more justified. This is what happens in this game.
    Ellie decides to spare Abby in the final fight. She spares the killer of her only father figure and one of the fan's most beloved characters. But you find out why if you take in the flashbacks. She tries to forgive Joel for getting rid of the chance for a vaccine, so why can't she try and forgive Abby for what she did. By killing Abby she'd be no better than she was, so she lets her go, but not without a beating.
    I am not saying this game is up to par with most of ND's writing, but I found the game and it's story engaging and I enjoyed it a lot.    … Expand

    Absolutely love this game! Honestly I don't understand any of the bad reviews. The story is so gripping, in that way that you feel what the characters feel. This game has made me laugh, cry, shout, JUMP and I love it!! Naughty Dog have done an amazing job, as expected. Cannot recommend it enough. 10/10 on all espects of the game.

    Но вот если рассматривать игру со стороны сюжета, то он плох. Очень нелогичные повороты сюжета, среди которых максимально глупое убийство Джоэла, пощада Эбби в конце (можно было добавить интерактивности и дать игрокам выбирать самим) и т.д.
    Что касается лгбт повестки, она вписана в игру отлично, особо сюжету не мешает.
    Так что, исходя из этого игру я могу назвать одновременно игрой года и разочарованием года, к сожалению. Всем советую к прохождению    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. voy a dar mi humilde opinión a nivel de mecánicas y gameplay es casi lo mismo que el primero que no es malo pero para aquellas personas que la repetición les amarga puede que si,al nivel visual no se como la ps4 lo mueve sin explotar pero vamos al tropiezo de the last of us 2 la historia esta puede dar mas de si y esta un poco mal organizada la parte de abby en la mitad del juego se siente un poco pesada pudieran haberla hecho mejor y dejando esta parte como dlc y centrando la historia en elli y todo lo que tiene que hacer en su búsqueda de venganza no solo pegar tiros para conseguir las respuestas, sino también a través de la tortura de los compañeros de abby para conseguir su paradero algo parecido al gato y el raton primero abby siendo el gato y el ratón joel y luego cambiando los roles con elli siendo el gato lleno de odio y dolor desaogandose matando a los amigos de abby de maneras horribles aumentando progresivamente por cada asesinato llegando al final de la parte de elli encontrándose con abby en en el teatro y al final elli ahogándola hasta la muerte en la playa y también matando a lev para no dejar cabos sueltos igual como iban hacer con ella al principio y el final final con la guitarra dejarlo así tal cual por que lo deja bastante bien… Expand
