Rather than a revenge story for Ellie, druckmann and his team of utter **** have made this a revenge story for Abby, who is Abby you may ask, well apparently she's some superhuman badass with arms like a silver back gorilla, who managed to take down The chuck Norris of videogames Joel, also she kills Tommy and absolutely destroys Ellie too. A ridiculous origin from a last of us 1 character with the least screen time. I cannot understand how Druckmann and his sheep completely balled this up. Worst sequel to a game period… Expand

    Game looks amazing, quality is fantastic (no bugs or glitches or something) but that´s are the only things the game has to offer for you if you enjoyed the last of us story.

    Story 3/10 - None lovable characters.
    Game-play - 5/10 Story killed the game-played for me.
    Graphics - 10/10 beautiful scenes.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is nowhere near deserving of anything above 5. I’ve chosen 3 because I think its bastardizes the series but would probably more aptly give it a 3.5, for two reasons:
    The game is a technical marvel and graphically is very impressive, the best ND looking game to date and one of the best looking games of this gen. The game also includes unlockable flashbacks with Joel and Ellie and these are what really give the extra .5 I would realistically give and also why the game is only a 3.5. If the whole game had more of Joel or Elie or introduced new characters that had such a deep and well thought out relationship as Joel or Ellie, Part 2 would’ve been fantastic. Unfortunately, beating Joel with a golf club 2 hours in dashes this. As soon as we take control of Abby, the one who murders Joel, the story becomes confusing and jumbled, with multiple flashbacks and jumpcuts and is very hard to follow. Abby herself is unlikeable and very hard to find any sympathy for. The other characters are forgettable and have no defining characteristics that make you want to find out more about them, apart from Dina, who makes sense because she’s Ellies partner.
    Ellie herself is less likeable, constantly hating on Joel and the majority of males to be honest, she’s simply an **** even to Dina but I immensly enjoyed the interactions she had with Dina and the small respite in the game with her and Dina living in the farmhouse was really cute and did go someway into exploring Ellie’s response to intimacy and romance.
    The ending, the point I will end this review on, is atrocious. The whole game is revolved around revenge, of course. Ellie tracks down Abby after getting seperated from her earier in the game, leaving Dina and Dina’s baby behind (obviously, not their baby, Dina was impregnated by another character earlier but then they broke up). Abby has been tortured and beat and is essentially being crucified, on death’s door. Ellie frees her and they both go to a nearby dock, to escape via boat. Ellie then threatens to kill Lev, a boy Abby has been travelling with, if Abby doesn’t fight her. This devolves into a fist fight (in a world where guns exist and Ellie actually has a few on her person and in a world where survival of the fittest dominates), where Ellie gets the upperhand but then let’s Abby leave with Lev, despite murdering her friends and 100’s of others and the whole point of tracking Abby was revenge for Joel. Ellie then comes back to the farmhouse to find Dina and the baby gone and tries to play guitar, only to find she can’t as she lost two fingers in the fight with Abby. One more cutscene plays, where Ellie says in a flashback at Jackson, the starting area, she can’t forgive Joel for saving her at the hospital, credits.
    Let’s hope and pray TLOU3 is never made or if it is, with Druckmann far away as possible. If he and the other management who made devs work 100+ hour weeks for this game leave, I wish ND the best on their next game, otherwise, people on the bottom of the ladder, get the hell out and don’t look back.    … Expand

    The game is far to long and story telling is all over the place trying to force you to feel things for characters you dislike and have no interest in the game is a convoluted mess which is a shame cause it’s a beautiful game to look at.

    This 2 points are for graphics and gameplay, and nothing else. They completely dismissed the lovable relationship between Ellie and Joel, and replaced it with awful SJW stories, nobody in their right mind simpatizes with Abby and nobody cares about the transgender character in this game. This also proves that you can NEVER trust any journalists review, Im looking at you IGN.

    This game is nothing like the original and I do not appreciate what Nate Druckman has done to it. The fact the games industry allowed anyone to publish good reviews of this game is exemplary of the poor ethics in games journalism, and the opportunism displayed by Naughty Dog. Not worth the time to even watch, let alone spend money on.

    This is a pile of dog **** Coming from a hardcore fan that bought the PS4 just to play part 1 and had Part 2 on pre-order for the past 2 years. The story is garbage, the main cast is ruined and Abby is the character nobody wanted or needed. Never buying a Woke Naughty Dog game again. F* you naughty for ruining my favourite game.

    In certain parts, the game is a masterpiece, but in history context, I think that Abby's character was played too much instead of watched. From the middle to the end, the history loses itself, but it's still a good game, I think that the negative reviews are a little exaggerated... but what can I do about it!?

    Empezaré diciendo que esta secuela no es de 10, pero lo puntuaré como tal dado que el juego tampoco es de 3 como muchos lo están puntuando. Entiendo que haya mucha gente que no esté de acuerdo con muchas de las decisiones tomadas en lo largo del desarrollo del videojuego; está claro que hacer una secuela de una obra maestra como era el primero con un final cerrado y consolidado es muyEmpezaré diciendo que esta secuela no es de 10, pero lo puntuaré como tal dado que el juego tampoco es de 3 como muchos lo están puntuando. Entiendo que haya mucha gente que no esté de acuerdo con muchas de las decisiones tomadas en lo largo del desarrollo del videojuego; está claro que hacer una secuela de una obra maestra como era el primero con un final cerrado y consolidado es muy difícil dado que a no todo el mundo le va a gustar el ritmo u orientación de la secuela. En relación al "review bombing" que se le ha estado haciendo, lo veo algo innecesario, ¿por qué debería de considerarse que el videojuego posee una agenda política o es propagandista?, ¿por contener un personaje homosexual que ya se venía sabiendo desde 2013?, ¿por la aparición de un personaje que está en desacuerdo con las actividades que se le otorga debido a su género y, por lo tanto, decide raparse la cabeza? o, ¿porque se menciona que un personaje es judío y su linaje sobrevivió a la Segunda Guerra Mundial? Todas estas críticas mencionadas carecen de sentido dado que durante el transcurso del videojuego no se nota que estén introducidas con calzador, dado que no afecta en nada el desarrollo de la trama. Realmente esta tormenta de malas críticas es un hecho desafortunado que se suma a la larga lista de "errores" que ha cometido Naughty Dog durante el periodo de promoción del mismo; en esta lista podemos encontrar un par de retrasos (ya sea porque el juego necesitaba pulirse o por culpa del Covid-19), incesables críticas debidas a la práctica del "crunch" que ha supuesto la realización de este triple A e incluso la filtración masiva de la historia y/o gameplay que comprometiese, para muchos, el hecho de llegar a esta obra sin conocer ningún detalle de la misma.
    El desarrollo de la historia es algo "diferente" de lo que me esperaba; pero una vez finalizado el videojuego, comprendo la decisión de este tipo de "storytelling". Naughty Dog lleva mencionando durante mucho tiempo que en esta secuela se quieren centrar en lo que supone vivir en un mundo de estas características, el hecho de que ni el bueno es tan bueno, ni el malo es tan malo y el hecho de que todo lo que hacemos conlleva ciertas consecuencias para bien o para mal, por lo que finalmente si se puede llegar a comprender dicha decisión de contar la historia. Principalmente no me gustó este modo de contar la historia, pero finalmente sí que pude apreciarla, es cierto que no reinventa la narrativa ni innova en "storytelling", pero sí que sirve para conseguir el propósito de hacerte sentir que lo que matas no son simples pixeles, sino personas con vida y familia propia.
    En relación al desarrollo de personajes... No se profundiza tanto como en el primero, pero ni de broma. Si que cuenta con un desarrollo aceptable, donde entiendes y comprendes las motivaciones de cada uno de los personajes para actuar pero, de todas formas, al igual que ocurría con la historia, se podría haber replanteado de otras maneras más "órganicas".
    Si bien la historia y desarrollo de personajes no supone esa perfección de la cual ya es característica la primera entrega, donde realmente esta secuela realmente saca músculo es en su apartado técnico, repleto de escenarios magistrales y animaciones y expresiones faciales descabelladas, donde las personas que se encuentran en el universo de TLOU parecen realmente personas metidas dentro de la consola, lo que hace que se aleje esa idea preconcebida de matar simples píxeles inanimados.
    En cuanto al gameplay se refiere... Es cierto que no encontramos una gran innovación, pero sí que encontramos la suficiente como para distinguirla del primero. Se introducen tres nuevas mecánicas que consigue abrir un gran abanico en cuanto a resolución de situaciones se refiere. Estamos hablando del hecho de poder tirarse a tierra, poder esquivar y poder saltar. En cuanto al hecho de poder tirarnos al suelo, abre todo un mundo de posibilidades, tanto en sigilo como en exploración. En cuanto a poder esquivar, Ellie es muy ágil y esto se demuestra en esta acción, haciendo mucho más dinámica la opción del combate que en el primero. Y, por último, el hecho de poder saltar, gracias a esta nueva mecánica, se abre una nueva dimensión que el primero no poseía, la verticalidad, pudiendo afrontar de distintas maneras un mismo nivel. En cuanto al resto de gameplay, permanece similar al primero pero... si lo de antes funcionaba, ¿para qué cambiarlo?
    En definitiva, esta secuela no es la obra maestra que muchos anhelaban, pero tampoco ha supuesto el desastre catastrófico del que muchos hacen mención. Tiene sus cosas buenas y sus cosas malas, por lo que te puede gustar más o te puede gustar menos. Con el tiempo se hará justicia y se conseguirá mirar con ojos distintos a la historia y donde se consiga entender que el propósito de los desarrolladores ha sido alcanzado. Mi puntuación final sería de un 7'5.    … Expand

    Breathtaking narrative, brilliant cast and characters! The story made it difficult for me to put the controller down. I really wanted revenge for Ellie. It plays wonderfully even though some flashbacks seem placed for my frustrating because again: I want that revenge. Angered bigots is just the cherry on top of this record selling masterpiece. I hope we get to revisit the world of TheBreathtaking narrative, brilliant cast and characters! The story made it difficult for me to put the controller down. I really wanted revenge for Ellie.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played this game with an open mind. I didn’t go in thinking there was “An AgEnDa” being forced down my throat. I gave Abby a Chance and when I finished the game, I was 100% okay, even satisfied. People honestly giving this game a 0 are just way too hurt and upset that Joel died early, how he died, and you play as his killer (I’ll get to that). It makes sense he died (maybe not early, but honestly the players would be enraged like to hunt Joel’s killer if it were any other character, so I understand why they did it). They are rioting “it’s horrible writing! It goes against his character.”.... the story takes place 4 years after the first event. In those 4 years, Joel’s lived in a protected, gated community were he doesn’t have to worry about trust and survival because he’s always surrounded by people who care about him. For 4 years, he didn’t have to struggle. So “He WoUlDnT jUsT tRuSt StRaNgErs” isn’t forgetting he’s been meeting and trusting people within the community for years. So it’s not so much a slap in the face to Joel’s development, but a lack of judgement as human because he forgot what it’s like to be in the world and not sheltered. The first game establishes this is a horrible, dangerous world, and you probably won’t survive long. Unfortunately, that went for Joel. Yes. I love him, and I was devastated, but people for get one glaring fact.

    Joel doomed humanity. Joel killed all the Fireflies to save Ellie. Joel killed Abby’s father (don’t pretend like if someone murdered your father, you wouldn’t want revenge). You see, Joel is the hero to us, in his story and our story. But he is the villain in Abby’s. We’re just so attached to Joel, we don’t realize that. I know, it took me some time to see it that way. But when you play as Abby, if at least try to remove all hatred, the scene that won be over was when Abby was on her knees crying over her dads body. Me personally, I didn’t hate her after that. I understood why. Now, I still wanted her to die because Joel’s my boy, but after that I was able to really appreciate the flashbacks and character building/establishment. Which made me very conflicted because I’m supposed to hate her, but Abby’s not a bad person, she’s just good person who did something horrible, much like Joel, and much like Ellie when she killed Mel. As I’m playing Abby, moments like when I realized I killed the dog as Ellie, or when Manny dies, or Yara, or when you walk in to see your friends dead. It was deep, and conflicting because I allowed myself to give these characters a chance, and I so doing so got somewhat attached knowing full well what was going to happen. That when I returned to the climax... I felt uneasy because both characters are completely justified in why they doing it. The games true entire faults aren’t with the story or the characters Instead, it’s the repetitive gameplay. you’re doing the same, stealth killing, tiptoeing for 25 hours. It’s the 25 hour, single player LINEAR story. It’s not open world where you can spend time exploring, doing side quest and discovering new locations. The fact that you’re repeating the same gameplay for that long makes it very glaring The Last of Us was long too, but it knew where to end. The last one is the game makes you do all that hunting and build up, killing and searching for Abby that as soon as you confront her, it cuts off and you pretty much restart the game as Abby. It’s two last of us style games in one. Two separate narratives. You get to the climax, and then it starts you from the beginning. There were times I was rushing Abby’s story just to get back to see what happens because I wanted to see Ellie’s story finish. Last of Us 2 is Ellie AND Abby’s story, when it should have just been Ellie’s. Abby is a good character that has a story worth telling, but it shouldn’t have been in this game. They should have made a prequel to the Last of Us 2 - let’s call it The Last of Us: The Hunt, where they establish Abby as a character, her back story and motives to kill Joel and the story revolves around making to Jackson, so when we get to the sequel we’ve had time with her as a character to understand why she does what she does. And her story in this game - keep it the same, just DLC or something. Don’t clog up Ellie’s story    … Expand

This game doesnt has the same story line as The Last of us part I; however, it makes you love it despite the fact of Joel's death at the begining of the game. When you learn about why Abby killed Joel, you actually understand her and you cant say you wouldnt have done the same if you were abby. Then you kill all of her friends. What would you want her to do if not try to kill you and Tommy? The game has great graphics. I would give it a 10/10 but sometime the exploring parts are just too boring.… Expand

    Lo bueno? no es la típica historia. Es cruda y triste. Lamentablemente el juego trata de venganza y la venganza no tiene finales felices, solo dolor y una enseñanza: si no eres capaz de superar el pasado nuca podrás ser feliz.

    Es un buen juego en temas de mecánicas y gráficos pero en la historia flojea mucho nos quita a un personaje emotivo ,Lo del lgtb nos parece bien a la mayoría pero controlar a un personaje que mata a nuestro protagonista de la anterior saga es nefasta decisión por el equipo de naughty dog ,Yo por the last of us,llore literalmente y por esta saga también me entristece la muerte de Joel ojalá fuera de otra forma el juego ,Sigue siendo un juego bueno,Neil Druckmann no nos importa el lesbianismo de hecho una personaje lgtb es bueno y nunca visto ,Espero que el equipo de naughty dog haga algo pero me parece imposible.Lo siento por todos los fans de The Last Of Us. This game is full of garbage writing and left-wing degeneracy and political agendas. No wonder this game is getting banned in some Muslim countries or getting certain disgusting sex scenes cut out completely in others.

    It's a cinematic game so you can't help but judge it mainly by the quality of its narrative, and that is extremely lacking.

    It suffers from extremely poor writing and character development. Most plot points and character actions, introductions (or exits) make no sense in the context of a zombie apocalypse or basic story-telling. Masterpiece easily a 9 but its design, graphics and details such as the fuel canister its nozzle protrudes from the backpack raises it to 10; impressive what was achieved with a PS4. Incredible story but difficult to understand without paying attention; considering that Joel's death is very fast during the plot but understandable because it would lengthen the game even more unnecessarily, it should be noted that his death was basically in the style of deaths within the universe of The last Us also that it was the only way to continue with the story since part 1 was very finished and I do not see the way that Joel becomes a super hero again in another repetitive way; the story starts very slowly it feels heavy but once it ends it starts what is a series of murders with cruelty this throughout the game; the detail that the npc have names is something that impresses and even more so with the motion capture of the deaths; The script is very well done but you have to pay attention to understand it with knowing that your actions have a reaction and thus the game deceives you, thinking of revenge but Ellie only looks for a way to forgive Joel (a rather orthodox way to forgive). The sound of the game is incredible and impeccable, the 3d sound is greatly enjoyed from the bullets in a closed space to when shooting at a vehicle, whether it punches or bounces, it sounds very realistic. Gameplay clearly an 8 because it is good and it is the first game but as an innovation from the first game to the second the truth is that if they added new mechanics they give freshness to the gameplay. Before playing the game, I had a lot of concern about spreading forced political or progressive garbage.     Joel died, by a group of Fireflies, that were hunting him. For a story about revenge, each side in this story continually let people go, when it made no sense. Fighting as Abby for the Ellie Boss Fight was horrible. I wanted nothing more than to die, but alas, I could not continue the story if done so. Which, while on the topic of Abby, was a horribly written character. No redeeming features graced this character and it was sad to say that not even Owen (her love interests) could help. Manny, who was barely in the game was more interesting than either of these characters. All of which end up dying when you start her play through, so you already know how everything goes.

    The twists of this game were terrible. Pregnant women, people dying, and continual ending vibes wrecked this game. I didn't care for exploring because of how dull the game was and I missed the different vibes the first game gave you as you travelled across the states. All in all, a waste of time that I uninstalled as soon as I finished the game. It's a shame that this was the game I waited years for and even worse is how the play on words in the trailers affected everything I thought this game might be. RIP Joel. The storytellers rightly thought that it was time to exhibit both perspectives of the harsh realities we all experience. Nothing is linear and plainly black/white in any respect, even though we want it to be. This is why people love those circus superhero movies— very simply, easy to identify with “good vs evil” plot. That isn’t the way the real world works, and it looks like the simple world view that draws people to plain, ‘good vs. evil’ Batman-type nonsense is the same thing that is stopping people from understanding and subsequently enjoying this masterpiece. Yes, it’s hard to watch Joel and Elli quarrel. It’s really hard to watch Jesse die after you grow to like him, or to watch Ellie and Dina separate, unless you have some kind of weird hang-up about same-sex romance, which seems like the case for some of you. It’s difficult to think about the potential regrets that Ellie has in regards to her somewhat neglectful treatment of Joel as of late— never telling him she loves him or she’s thankful for him. That’s all really difficult, but it makes you feel something. That’s how art works. Good art should make you feel uncomfortable because it forces you to stare into the abyss of meaning.

    Most of you just want to swing from buildings with your webs and mash x until everything is dead because you’re the ‘good guy’ and they are the ‘bad guy’. Grow up. That’s just a response to story criticism. Beyond that, art and environment are staggering, writing has some of the most authentic displays of human interaction I’ve seen in media, the gameplay is smooth, and the game is a great length. The one negative I’d concede is that stealth is a little choppy, at least for me. There are instances where it doesn’t really make sense for the enemy to have not seen you as well as the opposite case, but maybe that was just human error.    … Expand

    When you play this game, you know it's a Naughty Dog game. It is a technical achievement to behold and everyone involved in making this game should be praised and applauded. Everything, the visuals, sound design, level design, performances, art direction, i can go on all of it is of the highest quality and I've come to expect this from Naughty Dog but they really blew me away with this one.

    The thing that brings this whole game down for me though is the story. I think a sequel to the first game was absolutely justified due the circumstances in which the first game leaves off in however this is not the story i expected and it's not the story i wanted. This story lacks what made the first game so special, it lacks the touching intimate relationship between Ellie and Joel. There is a load of new characters introduced in this game and i found myself not caring for anyone other than Ellie, Joel and Tommy. These characters are introduced so early and so fast it was hard for me to care. Particularly Ellie's love interest Dina, she is superbly played Shannon Woodard and she has a great personality but her relationship with Ellie felt very forced and rushed compared to Ellie's relationship with Riley in the Left Behind DLC. Later in the game, some of the characters get that time to shine and you learn about their motivations but it's a fair bit into the game and for me it was too little too late. I commend Naughty Dog for going out there with this story, people are gonna love it and people are gonna hate it but it failed to work for me.

    One last thing i have to mention. Me as gamer i gauge my game purchases based on trailers and what is shown, particularly when it comes to story trailers. I want to let people know with The Last Of Us Part 2's story trailers, it is not at all representative of the ENTIRE story you'll be playing. It does represent some parts of the game but not ALL. I understand why Naughty Dog did this however there are scenes in the trailers that do exist in the game but have different characters in the scenes than shown in the trailer. This is misleading and it is wrong, I really hope they know they screwed up on that front regardless on if it was done to keep parts of the game secret. You cannot mislead your playerbase like that or you will lose their trust.

    Aside from the story and the trailer representation, this is a well put together game. The performances from the great actors, the stunning visuals and the gameplay really carried me through to the end of the game. It will be interesting to see if there'll be a sequel or not but nevertheless congrats to Naughty Dog for launching and i look forward to seeing what Naughty Dog does next.    … Expand

    So, even with all the pros this game is really really bad. It makes NO sense that Ellie act how she acts in certain parts of the game but that isnt even the biggest thing about why its bad.
    The reason is: character development.
    If you kill one of the most beloved characters early in the game (Joel) and want to bring in new main playable characters like Abby, you HAVE to bring WAY more backstory in order to make the player feel with her.
    I mean she KILLED Joel!
    How do you make the player like her? Bring more and more backstory before she does that. Let the players play 2-10h as Abby when she was a child or whatever. The backstory of her is basically told in 10minutes and then her dad is being killed. Thats it? And now I have to feel with her and understand why she killed Joel?
    Hell no!
    That is weak story telling. Really really weak.

    Then there are all the other new characters. Nobody is likeable. Like really. They all feel empty. They are only shells without any meaning.

    This game is just bad. Do yourself a favor and dont buy it. The reviews the journalists wrote are either bought by Sony or ND or are heavily politicly influenced. Sad thing is: because of that same journalists will most likely make this game GOTY. What a joke.

    Safe your money and buy something else.

    And last but not least: this is technically a very good game but the story/characters is/are SO bad it just doesnt matter how well the rest is done.

    You want a good revenge story? Watch "Oldboy" then you know how to make a good revenge story that shocks everybody to their core.

    The story is a absolute **** show. gameplay got very repetive after 6 hours, only reason this gets 3/10 is because the graphics and animations are so beatiful,

    This game is absolutely amazing. It makes you happy, it makes you angry, it makes you sad. The game is an absolute thrill ride packed with amazing action and a heartfelt story.

    This is def a story driven exploring game with combat mixed n. The combat is fun when it happens wish they would of added a slide mechanic like the game remnant but other than that the combat feels great. If u like fast paced games look the other way lol it's def a slower game n I can see it not appealing to people who just want to run n gun. All n all its one of the most beautiful worlds I've explored n will def play through again on new game plus. Is it a game of the generation no but it does have some of the best atmosphere ever n a game n a lot of fun combat encounters, which will at least bring me back for one more play through. All n all I think it's a solid game can b a little slow paced at times but great when it ramps up. N if nothing else this world is worth exploring these artist r top notch.… Expand

    Best game for PS 4 I played so far. Extremely brave story and the innovative game in so many aspects. I am very sorry for anyone who rates this game poorly because these people seem to have personal issues that have nothing to do with this beautiful game! Praise Naughty Dog

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
