    Loved the graphics. Loved the little cameos, Joel the main character from the 1st game had. Loved the museum Part.
    Apart from that This game is an absolute hot garbage ruining Everything we loved about the 1st game. And, the narcissism of the game director to make a character about him and even CARDS yikes!!!!

But the story makes me sick: poor and lazy writing, way too drawn out, forcing players to play as someone they absolutely despise, actions that make absolutely zero sense, and much more. The last of us will be a game I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my life. The last of us part II is an absolute nightmare I hope IGraphics, cutscenes, acting, that’s fine and dandy and all. The story sucks they made a character (abby) that killed the chracter you love (joel). Which is fine you can still play as Ellie but the thing is they tried to make you hate Ellie for some reason like having Ellie kill dogs showing flashbacks of Ellie being a dick to Joel. And whats worse is they forced you to play Abby the character you hate and forced you to like her. Like i dont a give a damn about her father and friends he killed joel. And another stupid thing is when Ellie is traumatized by killing a pregnant lady like she killed a lot of people before that but no killing pregnant ladies draws the line. The characters that are killed are forgettable like manny and jesie its like they died and nobody cared. They got a few screen time and then poof they out of the story.     Even though I saw some spoilers I have to say the narrative, storytelling, script, music, sound design, the exquisite detail in every moment/area, level design, character design, the depth of every aspect in the game is deep. Naughty dog is showing where the future in technology is going

    I can understand people investing a lot in the previous game and don't want to see some of the characters go. If it's really purely that, I can understand the frustration. I'm sorry it has come to that. *that scene* was brutal, abrupt and disrespectful if you've invested so much into this character emotionally. Must be a huge disappointment.

    Though personally a story about another man rescuing a little girl is boring as hell and I couldn't finish the first game. Just couldn't make myself care about Joel. But I didn't come here and leave a hundred 0 reviews.

    If it's because of subconscious discrimination, I've got a message for you:

    Stop finding excuses to hate this game. The game isn't garbage, you are. The story isn't garbage, you are. I'm sorry women aren't the weak sidekick anymore. Cos they aren't.

    People are acting outrageously here cos their huge ego got challenged. Yea, the world's changed. What you believe aren't true anymore, your values have been replaced by time. You can't accept your typical, boring hero stereotypes aren't the hotshot anymore, you can't comprehend more meaningful things the story depicts.     Biggest disappointment in video game history. The writers didn’t have any passion for the story or characters from the first game. It honestly feels like they intentionally ruined the game for personal reasons.

The problems lie with the story. The relationship between Ellie and Dina is portrayed very well, but the treatment of Joel does feel like a slap in the face to someone invested in this series. Naughty Dog has tried to make us sympathetic with the character Abby who kills Joel, but this part of the story is grossly mishandeled. After this, the player is then forced to play half of the game as Abby who is a flat and unlikable character even with the issues pertaining to Joel aside. Huge dissappointment after a 7 year wait. I cannot understand the positive reviews by the game review companies, as I have not talked to a single person who feels anything but betrayed by this sub-par story offering by Naughty Dog.… Expand

It’s the story which completely lets all that hard work, be completely overshadowed and destroyed. The behaviour of “some” involved at Naughty Dog and Sony has been disgraceful as well.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's not overly stretch this review. The last of us part II is a MASTERPIECE. Not a rare but a UNIQUE gem in the gaming industry.
    VISUALS/GRAPHICS: 9.8/10
    The visuals, and the overall technical realisation of the game is nearly perfect, except for the fire visuals and effects that are clearly limited by this console's generation's problems. There are some little glitches all over the game but they are almost meaningless.
    GAMEPLAY/ANIMATIONS: 9.8/10
    The gameplay is renewed and restyled but clearly inspired by the first chapter's fundamentals. It betters every single aspect of it and adds new mechanics that keep the game's overall style. The playable maps are enormous and almost completely explorable, filled with curiosities, touching and heartbreaking side stories and collectibles so detailed only Naughty Dog could bless us with. The combat sequences are extremely satisfying, flexible and realistic, as you can reestablish a stealthy profile by running into the grass and keeping a prone position. The A.I., especially the humans enemies' sets new standards for the whole industry, enemies can flank you, easily overwhelm you. They all have names and they can get angrier if you kill their friends or their dogs, the new type of enemies, extremely sensible to every noise and smell. Killing enemies in The last of us part II is not an easy decision. Enemies will scream painfully or angrily, dogs will mourn their owners. The infected enemies are of course less intelligent than humans but overall more dangerous and renewed. Runners are now more aggressive and overwhelming, stalkers are terrifying and extremely deadly when it comes to a close combat with them. Clickers can easily spot any noise you produce and quickly kill your character. The new shamblers are extremely dangerous as they are die hard, violent monsters that are able to eject burning spores that can sometimes trap you in a corner, hopeless. The bloaters are way more difficult and violent in this game and will cause you a lot of problems. The new Rat King is surely the most challenging boss fight of the whole series. Furthermore the two characters have different weapons and abilities that can be used and improved. I noticed the falling animation was a little less taken care of.
    STORY MODE AND PLOT: 9.5/10
    The story mode is devastating, moving and grounded. The plot twists are incredibly well played and empowered by the incredible acting of the characters' mo-cap actors. Joel's death is the consequence of his actions. Because nobody is a 'good guy' in the universe of The last of us, as Tess reminded Joel in the first game before her death,-We're sh*tty people Joel-. Abby had the complicated burden of justifying her terrible actions throughout the game and she partially did. Naughty Dog make us live her human relationship with the characters we previously saw involved in a terrible action of revenge. But we never forget our true reasons and Ellie, the actual protagonist of the game is focused on her goal. She eventually understands that killing Abby won't bring back Joel and in a touching final scene she lets her enemy go, with the boy she previously saved. Abby lost everything she loved because of her lust for revenge and Ellie proves to be a better human being than her. She then realizes how her revenge obsession brought away the good things she had left, Dina and her son. JUST LIKE Abby.
    SOUNDTRACK: 9.5/10
    The soundtrack is easily on an upper level and Gustavo Santaolalla demonstrates his talent with tracks that can make your emotions already simulated by the cutscenes even more intense, even though I feel like the first game's track are slightly more inspired.
    IMPERFECTIONS SUMMARIZED:
    Nothing is perfect, and The last of us makes no exception. Some parts of the plot seem to be stretching the game a little bit, for example the still beautiful but slightly unnecessary gameplay sequence during the war between the WLF militia and the Seraphites cult. Some animations are still a bit rough, like the falling animation that can be revisited and there are some little graphic glitches, some textures disappearing when you're looking at them in certain spots, the fire effects and visuals seem a bit 'old', though this little problems don't ruin the experience. As I said, nothing is perfect, neither is The last of us part II, but let me state it goes pretty damn close to perfection.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While the game mechanics, game play and graphics is a state of art. The Last of Us is the type of game that is weighted by its story telling and plot, and this is where the game has a shockingly poor story.

    The story of this game has been made to forcefully divert itself from the natural development of the first chapter in a very violent purposeless manner. I do understand that the authors have clearly stated how this game is about hate and revenge. However if you put the time and attention in the game, you can clearly see that the game is made over misplaced moral degeneration and cutting the main characters in the most disrespectful way imaginable.

    Joel in the Last of Us was and still one of the most bad ass character in the history of gaming. He was not prefect with only the instinct of survival as his only drive to keep going in the ugly world he lives in. But Ellie existence in his life has opened the door to the player to explore the depth of his character. Showing how realistic and justified his action were to be.

    Joel saves Abby, an abnormally masculine and bad looking female with every a treat that a normal human being would despise, and have the highest level of moral degeneration. When she find out who he is, she kills him out of revenge in the most unmemorable way you can image. The writer does not let him die a heroic death, but on floor of no where location that doesn't have any further connection to the story. To add salt to the injury, a character that resemble Neil Drunkman spit on Joel dead body as a sign of disrespect to the figure that Joel represent.

    the entirety of the game play is to follow Ellie and Abby journey to meet and fight to death, but that doesn't happen. The player will go through 25 to 30 hours of a marathon of revenge, that doesn't take place. Putting the player in a position to question the purpose of making such a pointless story.

    To be fair, the flash back between Ellie, Joel and Tommy are beautiful. But that anger me more, how can you make such a good flash backs, yet constructing such a horrible current story that lack every sense of depth.

    this part of the review will be very personal opinion, but it has to be out there for you to read. the political influence in this game is disgustingly unbearable. If the plot of the story is written buy the same writer of the original Last of Us, then I wouldn't say that.

    Even as an Iraqi middle eastern man, it bugs me why would an Alpha male Texan Character like Joel meet his end like this.

    MY final massage to Naughty Dog is this; how can you expect players to appreciate and respect your work, when you disrespected and forsaken your own legacy.

    One thing, that i did like story-wise was the relationship of Ellie and Dina. It felt natural and believable.I enjoyed that.But it all falls apart on this mess of a story

    Gameplay is awesome, but the story ruins it all.(After all it's a narrative story) Also, Sony false advertised JOEL in the trailers. JOEL appeared on many parts of the trailers pointing that there would be an adventure with the duo, but they fking replaced it with Jessee.Also the flashbacks of TLOU were altered to comply with this story.

    A mess of a game. How low did naughty dog fell.

    Worse that this **** game is the "critics". How dare they all give 100's on this mess?
    I wouldn't accept the rumor that sony pays for reviews, but in this case...it's more than evident.

    Absolute masterpiece and another swan song for another console generation. Expands on literally everything that made the first one great. Including story. Everyone bombing this game with 0’s are doing it for one reason only and it’s childish. This game takes place in a dark world and a dark time. Terrible things happen.     Геймплей логично эволюционировал, ощущается приятный импакт от стрельбы, сочная боёвка. Рекомендую тоже проходить на высокой сложности, чтобы игровые механики раскрыли себя гораздо сильнее - активнее использовать окружение (отступать, прятаться, использовать весь арсенал).
    Уровни довольно комплексные, любителям зачищать углы есть где развернуться. По    30+ часов на высокой сложности.
    Геймплей логично эволюционировал, ощущается приятный импакт от стрельбы, сочная боёвка. Рекомендую тоже проходить на высокой сложности, чтобы игровые механики раскрыли себя гораздо сильнее - активнее использовать окружение (отступать, прятаться, использовать весь арсенал).
    Уровни довольно комплексные, любителям зачищать углы есть где развернуться.
    По поводу сюжета....повествования идет несколькими циклами и полная картина возникает только в самом конце. Есть спорные моменты, но они были и в первой части.
    Я крайне советую самостоятельно ознакомиться с этой игрой (хотя бы по скидке), как минимум ради игрового процесса, это образцовый стелс экшн. Тем более, не стоит пропускать если имеется консоль.    … Expand

The spectacular graphics and playability contribute to make this game a 10/10 for me, i’m definitely replaying it soon. Now, that’s my opinion, maybe you disagree with me and you hate this game and that’s ok.     Most of us were liking the the first part because of the amazing story and Charakter Development. The bonding Story of Ellie and Joel was amazing. We could cry, laugh and be happy and angry with them.
    But now they just completely change the Charakter of Ellie and kill Joel right at the beginning? That’ dog ****.
    Also the you have to play have the Game with Abby who tortured and killed Joel. I absolutely hated that.
    Also I have the feeling that they have stretched the game quite a lot because of all the unnecessary long ways. I absolutely didn’t have that in the first part.
    Every Charakter was just lame. In comparison the bow and traps friend of Joel in the first part was way more interesting then all of new characters in this game.
    Also Ellie kills hundreds of people on here way for revenge and then she rescues and spares her main target Abby even though she tortured and killed Joel, she nearly killed Tommy and she killed Jessie.
    That’s just a lot of bull ****.

Personally I do think they need more representation all in all, but to force this element in the game just because you know critics will give it a 10/10 (if they don't their automatically homosexual, see above Metacritic score) is just disgusting. It had amazing graphics through out and the story was a nice slow burn which I think was a perfect way to start it off before the horrifying pivotal moment that sets the game in motion. It stays a intense mix between quit exploratory nowmts to straight out in san it. I loved it

How did everyone at Naughty Dog agree to this story? Joel gets killed in a horrific, almost traumatising way that is not right. If he had to die at least make it honourable, so that it was somewhat acceptable, but not like this. They literally destroy Joel. And then they try to make us feel bad for Abby and understand why she did it and make Ellie and Joel the bad guys?! There are simply no good or bad guys in the apocalypse.

    We play with Abby for more then half of the game which makes us see how the relationship is between her and her friends, which doesn't even matter to the story. And then we are forced to fight Ellie? In every aspect of the game you see how Abby is a big psycho, and then she almost kills (a pregnant) Dina, which she was gonna enjoy. While you could see that when Ellie killed Abby's friends she started to breath heavily cause you know, she's a human and was shocked what she did. And then when we finally can take revenge and kill Abby, ELLIE STOPS??? Because of a memory of Joel??? It should have done the opposite and make her want to kill Abby even more! And so in the end everything was for nothing and Ellie loses Joel, Dina, and is left alone? How can you ruin this game so much Naughty Dog? Neil Druckmann, why?     Gameplay:
    A few new mechanics in combat, but after 10 hours it becomes boring to play this game. Fight with people, fight with infected, fight with people, fight with some boss. You're keeping doing it over and over again.
    Exploring some areas after few hours becomes really ridiculous. If you find a safe than you need to find a note that contains code. And the note is located right next to the safe. Often notes contain just a code, but rarely it's a little puzzle like some date you need to find out. A lot of boring notes. It's so ridiculous to see that everybody right before death has written its own note describing life, situation that was going on there and kinda like that.

    Animations: nothing to say, it is awesome. So smooth and realistic.
    Graphics: nothing to say, it is awesome too. Even after graphics downgrade, this game is beautiful. Especially cutscenes.
    Music: nothing is remembered. A lot of simple ambients.    … Expand

And it seems because of what: supposedly because of the “terrible plot”, “minority propaganda” because the main characters of the last part were given much less plot time. Such an interesting question is brewing for me for those who put negative ratings: “Are you **** ?!” Where do you think the game got worse? Graphic arts? Neil and the team sat for long nights, worked, quarreled, freaked out, left the project, someone quarreled with their families. And all so that you enjoy all the details of the game. Artists worked tirelessly so that gamers can enjoy each texture game !!! Do you even understand what kind of work this is ?! The guys tore the ass only so that the whole environment pulled you into the game itself. Game mechanics? Everything remained as it was in the first part, with additional improvements. Annoying stairs became many times less. Interactions became many times more, the animation is smooth and pleasing to the eye. The gameplay itself feels nice and smooth. It immediately feels that Neil knows how to make games. The intelligence of the enemies depends on the complexity and if you are a person who complains about stupid artificial intelligence in this game, please check the complexity. But of course, almost everyone did not like the plot of the game itself. Instead of telling about the further relationship between Joel and Ellie, as many shouts to us: ‘Spit in the face’. What is the difference between lesbian or gay? Is it that important to dive into the game itself ?! If you don’t like it, and you don’t even try to understand, then it’s better to just skip such games. No matter what orientation you are, it is important what kind of person you are. I don’t understand how people turn their tongue to say that “The plot is full of **** and propaganda.” The plot evokes emotions, although not funny. This is an ingenious move for the game of our generation, to show the people the truth about life and the difficulties of choice.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It breaks my heart to write this but their is so much wrong with this game. 1. Repetitive gameplay - it’s just the same as the first, and it just ties in with the next point.

    2. The game drags on way too long - the gameplay is just fine, but the game is many hours too long and it feels like unnecessary padding, which really tests your patience.

    3. Makes experienced survivalists act dumb - Joel and Tommy have vast experience, know all the dangers, and even know Joel could be wanted because of what he did in TLOU1. Yet they give their names, relation, where they live, invite them over for tea and cupcakes, all to complete strangers who are all armed and outnumber them, in a closed off space.

    4. Joel is a beloved character and deserved better - Much like say Geralt, or Master Chief, or Lara Croft etc. They would deserve a good send off right? Yet the absolute butchering of Joel is a disservice of what he was to fans. He literally gets spat on by a **** lookalike after being golf clubbed to death until he’s mush. If you treat any beloved character this way, it’s a huge FU to any fan.

    5. They make you play as Joel’s killer for half or more of the game - Abby just isn’t likeable to me, her first moments are being saved by Joel, to then brutally annihilating him with a golf club in front of his surrogate daughter Ellie. Then later you play as her and they try and make you feel for her, implying she’s empathetic and so on. Yet she goes on this huge journey to find Joel, with the game trying to tell you she’s empathetic and nice. Yet when she reaches Joel, he saves her, but she wasn’t understanding there. And then she does what she does to him in front of Ellie despite not emphasising with why Joel did what he did, or how it will make Ellie feel. Therefore invalidating everything the game tried to tell us about nice she is, and why we should like her. You can’t say she’s nice and empathetic and then have her destroy someone with a golf club while making that person’s daughter watch. She was gonna kill pregnant Dina too, but Lev stopped her. Even if she was likeable, I don’t wanna play as the killer of a beloved character, and for half or more of the game at that.

    6. The plot is unoriginal and boring - Revenge plots have been done so many times, and done better. It’s not hard to realise violence leads to more violence. It’s you kill me, I kill you, the game. No more on Ellie’s immunity, zombies, or anything interesting.

    7. The ending - Ellie kills lots of people to reach Abby, who has killed Joel, Jesse and some others, but let’s her live. She found Abby tied up, so she cuts her down and let’s her walk to a boat, simply to attempt to kill her then. Why not just do it when she was tied up? Ridiculous. Then there’s the flashback of Joel that makes her spare Abby. Which had no words or sage advice, simply an image of Joel playing a guitar. To me, I’d think that would reignite Ellie’s anger and make her follow through with killing Abby, but no. Then she goes back to her home to find Dina gone and is alone. She lost Dina and the baby, Joel, her friends, her revenge, and her fingers. Tommy is injured and I think has lost his wife.

    8. What are zombies? - There’s barely any in the game. Clickers seem a joke, as Abby can handle 3 at once. And human characters can whistle and make noise no problem.

    9. Abby’s sex scene - it’s just tasteless and dry. Funnily it’s praised and allowed, but anime girls in bikinis, and other less risqué scenes are criticised and censored. This one is more just a hit at Sony than it is about the game itself.    … Expand

Keep in mind that a ton of people have beaten the game already before release date. Streamers included. Characters are written like they haven't existed in the world ever before and trailers are faked on top of the poor writing. Places where Joel is supposed to be in has been replaced by another character. Trailers gave the feeling that Joel is part of the story and you play with him as Ellie but parts with him on release are just flashbacks and I feel cheated on. Ending made no sense and was poorly written.     Worst narrative full of plot holes. Nothing in this game makes sense, not to mention the forced agendas by the director of the game. Infinitely disappointed... So many years of waiting were for nothing! I will pretend part 2 does not exist..

    Definitely an amazing game, one of the best of the current generation. Sure, some plot decisions were going to be controversial, but it's an undeniably well written and well managed storyline. Gameplay-wise, it does everything the first one did well, but improved. It could be said that they played it safe in this aspect, but the formula works and the new features are great. Let’s be honest, nothing was ever going to beat Part I, The Last of Us was lightning in a bottle and there is no way they could be able to top it. The Last of Us is also not a happy game with a happy ending and closure. Joel’s death in Part II is so impactful for not only Ellie, but for the player as there is that connection they feel with the character and they can genuinely feel Ellie’s pain. I enjoy the revenge aspect of the game and that the game could’ve been Ellie kills them all and avenges Joel and lives happily with Dina in Jackson, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I think what hurts the game but makes it bold for them to make you play as Abby, a character every player wants to see dead. However the purpose of those scenes isn’t for you to sympathize with her, but more to make you see similarities between Ellie and Abby and how the relationship between Abby and Lev is very similar to the early relationship between Joel and Ellie in Part I. However I feel they spend a little too much time with Abby and trying to make you understand her and sympathize with her which largely fails as she is irredeemable for killing Joel and Jessie and almost killing Tommy and Dina. But I feel this is more up to the player to like her rather then them really wanting you to so that the ending where Ellie lets her go with Lev makes sense with Ellie’s character. She has found a form of closure. Is Part II better then the first installment? No, and it was never going to be. Is Part II a bad game? Not at all. I believe people went in expecting something that was never going to be there or was promised and that ruined the game for them. I am interested to see how the story will progress from here as the game ends with an open door.… Expand

    However that's in no way going to make this a good game because it's just messed up beyond all recognition. If you loved the first game like I did you will find nothing but disappointment here.
    While I do hate that political correctness has been injected into this game in various ways it's not the main reason to not play it, that goes to the terrible writing and direction that the story takes.
    The characters of Joel and Ellie are nothing like they were, they're now both clueless and senseless idiots, Abby is not likeable or sympathetic to trying to force players to like her is ridiculous, Joel's death wasn't unexpected but goddamn it was so poorly done that it was nothing less than insulting and the ending was probably the second worst part, after the golf scene, because it doesn't do anything. Nobody learns anything, no revenge is completed (except Abby's) and now we're just expected to leave everything unresolved and be happy with it cos "Joel plays guitar so everything is alright."
    Naughty Dog has ruined this game for political ideology, a story that is not deep, interesting, well written, artistic or clever, it's terrible messaging and it's complete lack of understanding of why people loved this franchise. The character interaction and development is gone and spat in our faces.
    Terrible, terrible game.

Honestly I liked how they presented the story. It wasn’t the story that I wanted but that’s the story they wanted to tell and they did a great job on that. Here comes my thoughts on the story: It looks like they wanted to show us that the story of Ellie and Joel isn’t the only one we should care about. What I mean by that is they wanted us to see that there are tons of stories in that post apocalyptic world. It looks like they tried to take away the main focus from Ellie and Joel and that’s where the problem begins. They put way too much focus on Abby’s side of story. I think the reason behind that is they wanted us to accept Abby and her behavior which makes no sense to me. Like, come on! You guys made a whole game dedicated to Joel and Ellie (part 1) and we literally loved them. I don’t want to accept and like Abby. I just want to destroy her! She might be cool and all but at the end of the day SHE KILLED JOEL. Don’t miss understand me. I’m not saying that we should take out all parts we played as Abby. But we played Abby too much. Almost half of the game was dedicated to Abby. They made her one of the main characters but it didn’t worked out for most of us. It should have been a true and successful vengeance story in my opinion. Now let’s talk about some other things. The gameplay was perfectly designed and balanced. The animations were astonishing. Game physics were 10/10. Designs and graphics were the best in history of gaming. Music was amazing. The only downside was the story but for me the last of us part 2 is still a masterpiece.
