    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. *heavy sigh* I never thought I would have to say this, but Naughty Dog did not deliver in The Last of Us Part II. The story was weak at best with a lot of plot-holes, nothing compelling to keep me interested at times, and poor character writing. I was a huge fan of The Last of Us because of its compelling story, crafting system, combat, world exploration, and amazing character development. The Last of us Part II only had a fraction of these elements.
    The crafting and supplement system was greatly improved and seeing Ellie/Abby physically craft the weapon upgrades was great. Combat mechanics and AI were greatly improved as well with new enemy call-outs, flanking, and rushing made it a challenge to beat. The world exploration was amazing as the environments were beautifully crafted. Naughty Dog, simply put, created the most beautiful looking game for the PS4. It was phenomenal to experience. However, in a game that is STORY driven, the STORY takes a majority of the points since it makes up the entire game. The story is supposed to make the player continue playing even if they have been playing for 4-5 hours already because they need to know what happens next. That didn't happen for me. It was much easier to leave the story and disconnect from the characters because of the way it was presented.
    There was way too many inconsistencies with previous characters such as Joel and Tommy, and not enough time spent on new characters that Naughty Dog pushed us to like an sympathize with. It just didn't work. It did not make sense that a group of WLF mercenaries would leave two people alive that had a deep connection to Joel. That is a huge plot hole and convenience that wasn't thought through. They should have just killed ellie and tommy and ended the game right there. You cannot take a character that was beloved by everyone that played The Last of Us and kill him off in a way that spits on the entirety of the character we know to be true. I also want to say that I think Abby would have been a great character and her dynamic with Lev could have been very compelling. However, there was not a lot of build-up for those two for us to sympathize and empathize with their situations.Abby and Lev would have needed a game of their own in my opinion. By including Joel and Ellie, the whole story felt really rushed and forced on us. its as if the writing team said, "The character you love dearly has been killed (very disrespectfully to boot) and now you have to like the character that did that killing without any previous context or character development prior to her killing your favourite character." That alone makes no sense. If you are going to write Joel and Ellie into a new game, fans of the game are going to ROOT for those two. Not only do you KILL one of them but you leave the other BROKEN, ALONE, and WITHOUT ANY PAYOFF/REVENGE. "The theme of the game is that senseless killing is wrong", you do know that we killed thousands of WLF agents and EVERYONE from abby's friend group, right? To let abby live at the end of the game is a spit in the face of Joel, Ellie, Fans, and the story. There is also the issue of Naughty Dog lying to us with pre-release trailers on what to expect from the game. They told us one thing, and gave us something else. Lying like that is morally wrong especially when it is to people that are going to purchase the game. When you purchase a game on the pretext of what is promised and are given something that isn't in line, that is wrong. The last positive thing i will say about this game is the soundtrack, Gustavo Santaolalla has out done himself again and created a wonderful soundtrack.    … Expand

    I played many of Naughty Dog's games during the lockdown. Before playing Last of Us 2 I played Last of Us. The gameplay is very very similar, and most of the modification to the gameplay seems to have come from the Uncharted series. The graphics are a bit better than Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy I think, but I still think recent Uncharted were better looking than the Last of Us 2, because well,I played many of Naughty Dog's games during the lockdown. Before playing Last of Us 2 I played Last of Us. The gameplay is very very similar, and most of the modification to the gameplay seems to have come from the Uncharted series. The graphics are a bit better than Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy I think, but I still think recent Uncharted were better looking than the Last of Us 2, because well, they showed exotic locations instead of a deplorable situation that the world finds themselves in the Last Of Us universe. When you play as a character in car (when the Scars chase you) also seems to be straight out of Uncharted series. Similarly characters swimming to the Aquarium in a storm seems to be out Uncharted 4 (when Drake swims to the island). So overall the gameplay is nothing new, but combined from multiple games. The gameplay it is still very solid if you isolate the game and treat it as an independent unit. The only addition I liked to the gameplay was the ability to play the guitar in the game. The sound, music, the whole atmosphere is really great. So I would really like to commend the efforts of the developers at Naughty Dog for their tremendous efforts.

    The storyline was really a let down in this game. I think this stems from the higher positioned personnel in the company. I am reading positive reviews where people complain that some negative reviews didn't not like the characters because of their sexuality etc. I think that is definitely not the case for majority of the people. I really liked Lost Legacy with two central female characters, and I loved the Last of Us DLC. The character development in TLOU2 is rather poor for the new characters, and the old characters seems to be stagnated. I really do think, that playing as Ellie throughout the game would have been much better, and having a DLC for Abby would have made much more sense. But anyways these poor decisions should be aimed at people at higher positions (who make these kind of decisions, such as directors, writers) rather than personnel who make the vision and decision for the game come to fruition (such as the software developers, the voice actors, the music directors etc. They really did a fantastic job with an average recipe, namely the story, they had at hand).

    Naughty Dog thrive on the story of the game and the way it is told. This was a really poor attempt at story telling, absolutely shambles. The overall rating of the game for me would thus be 3.

Judging by the amount of negative reviews, made by users who created an account just to hate the game, I think they are just idiots ... By the way, why do some subjects covered in the game bother people so much?

    I won't go into too much about the history of the game, which by the way is sensational, I just say that it's not just about revenge or just killing, the game is much more complex than what people are talking about, because it's about people. Despite being heavy, it is extremely "fun" and good to play, and deals with important matters, whether you like it or not.

    Finally, it is not just a game, it is an experience where you understand and live together the feelings of the characters, much because of the incredible narrative and graphics. I finished the game but I'm still processing it.

    Uno de los mejores juegos que he jugado, que se esta llevando críticas pues no se muy bien porque. Yo recomendaría jugarlo y luego puntuarlo ya que mucha gente aquí ni lo ha jugado. Como gran fan de la primera parte , me parece que es una gran secuela.

    The story is disconnected and forced. For me it was a bad experience. being forced to play with a character you have no empathy for, makes it very difficult to enjoy the game. Has a few bugs like Days Gone. It's playable at all!

    Poor writing. The story is too choppy and changes pace too often. Got to the end and thought "why did i even waste my time and money playing this game". Game play was good but the story was far from that. I should've gotten TLOU Remastered for my PS4 instead of TLOU 2. I am beyond let down.

    Very disappointed, the graphics are pretty good which should be expected at this point of the time. Game play has some nice new stuff but I really do not feel is sth groundbreaking, The story is horrible. I would give a 6 if my disappointment was not so great. To sum up. Average game relatively enjoyable but gets boring at some point.

    Most advanced combat gameplay i've ever experienced. A courageous story that deviates from the generic standards of the gaming industry and even the movie industry. So many emotions, hit me as hard as RDR 2. Amazing Graphics. Probably the best game of this generation.

    The games is a non stop thriller, that makes you feel every emotion you could think of. The antagonist is also a protagonist, one that you can't help but relate to. The graphics are top notch, absolutely gorgeous in 4k. I know that this game is getting alot of negative reviews, but the majority of the people havent finished the game. the game. So becarefule.Bput

On the pros side, tlou2 has stunning beautiful graphics, with lush tall grass to snipe baddies from that looks incredible to say the least on a 4k tv. Like the game before it the voice acting is top notch as well. Where the game falls short on sadly is the story. Its neither a 0 or a 10 which gamers seem to be on an unwinnable war on. Its more of a 5/10 or 6/10. Killing a beloved character in the way they chose to was an unfortunate mistake, but they took a gamble. I think it was less about politics and more for shock, but the end result leaves the game feeling like a somewhat better written story for a Death Wish movie that would have landed better if the antagonist ultimately met their demise.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. this game is **** amazing! it gets across the point the developers and writers were trying to achieve with the cycle of violence being broken through both ellie and abby (both in their own ways and along their own timeline). they way that each timeline intertwines is absolutely thrilling and such good attention to the way the game works, as well as the story overall. It’s incredibly captivating and takes the players on an emotional journey, which proves to be one of the best i’ve ever played, at the conclusion of the game when all the emotions rush back in and are re-emphasised. Many people may not like how the game ended because you spend this whole time fighting people only to not achieve what would be perceived as the main goal, and that is a valid thought, however if that’s all you take away from the game then i’m sorry but you fail to see what it really is trying to achieve because, like mentioned earlier, the goal was to END this cycle of violence. the ending proves to show ellie’s contempt nature and how she has come to terms with both hers actions and joel’s as she is finally able to move on from this hate and revenge and attempt to live a somewhat normal-we life to what she had been. Now back to joel’s death, yes i do think it could’ve been better detailed and more stretched out as he was such a beloved character, although i think his death overall shows his growth and how he acknowledges the wrongs he has done and he doesn’t really need anything more in his life because he was ok with how most things played out. So overall, i think it’s a really **** good game if your able to understand the depths, themes and emotions which are meant to be instilled and evoked. Solid work !… Expand

Los personajes, cada uno de los personajes formaron parte de una historia que crea un nuevo entorno y drama... han pasado años desde la primera historia y ahora continua en parte pero tambien se ha dado un giro drástico, pues asi son las cosas. En mi opinión como fan de the last of us desde el 2013 este juego ha valido cada puto segundo.
    3. La historia que es el punto mas odiado por los “fans” es algo que ver desde una perspectiva ya avanzada. Es cierto que no se hablo mucho de las luciérnagas o la “cura” para la humanidad como se baso toda la primera parte. Pero ahora las cosas han cambiado, no pueden aferrarse a una sola idea como era el objetivo del primer juego. Ahora la historia tiene características diferentes para mostrarnos la realidad de las cosas años después durante el apocalipsis. Los personas cambian, las relaciones tambien y cada puto hecho que ocurre en la historia es por algo... nos dejan pensando en los errores del ser humano y el perdon, o cambiar a ultima hora tus decisiones ya sea para darle un mínimo de sentido a la muerte de joel, como puede ser el perdon y el seguir adelante.    … Expand

The one take-away I had was that combat was annoying, I like how enemies flank you, and get around you, but friendly AI will sometimes not react to such a flank, even if they're covering your back. Also the weapon sway sometimes stay completely still at where a headThis game is absolutely fantastic. The story is amazing and heartbreaking. How an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.     First - I absolutely hate that you travel back and forth in time and people through the whole game. At times i lost track on what the story mission was about.
    Having to play almost half the game as Abby, was extremely annoying - i person i disliked through the game.I bought this game because the trailers led me to believe that this was a new story with Joel and Ellie, going on adventure again...how disappointing?
    The homosexual feel throughout the game (not that i have anything against peoples sexual choices - just not something i can relate to) was annoying too.
    The endless cutscenes with Abby and Owen were dead dead boring and uninteresting.
    Very few characters (unlike the first one, The brothers, Bill, Tess etc) were interesting or had something interesting about them.
    Manny was one of the few with a little spark, and wit - but he was wasted, without Abby ever using one second to feel sad over her losing a good friend.
    The ending is a no ending, I'm sure ND already have a part 3 planned...im done with this series. I can play tlou 1 over and over again - but I'll never play tlou 2 again.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where do I start? Oh boy. This is one of the most painful reviews I've ever done. Okay, let's address the part where the devs showcased the trailer, and made it look (painfully obvious) that Joel would be joining Ellie. But no, he's not.

    Naughty Dog thought it would be hilarious to kill Joel, within the first hour of the game, by Fireflies that are thought to be gone. It's the doctor's "daughter" (she's trans, let's not try to hide it) who is strong as can be, seriously she's buff! I have nothing against anyone from the LGBTQ community, but it's clear that there was an objective that was seriously pushed down our throats the entire game. The scene w/ her and Dina was nice, nothing awkward like Abby & Owen (absolutely disgusting).

    The game is set in a time skip (if you can barely call it that with all the back and forths with the memories) at about 4 years from the end of the 1st game. If you enjoyed having a nice ending where things went well, part 2 will make sure that all hopes are crushed.

    Pros:
    - Gorgeous background
    - Nice lighting/graphics
    - Individualistic characters (quite a few are a bit beyond)
    - Voice acting is perfect......100%

    Cons:
    - All the badguys feel the same, it's the same handful of NPCs over and over until the game ends.
    - Constantly forces awkward situations and makes you bond with characters that they'll just kill for their amusement (seriously, you'll be upset)
    - The story is so awkward and makes you feel that murder is wrong, and Ellie shouldn't feel that way. Abby should PAY for killing Joel...
    - Combat is too simple, as the AI doesn't know where you are even in the most basic of hiding spots (usually poor)
    - Hopeless feeling after beating the game

    I still think Abby needs to pay, unfortunately she won't. Thanks Naughty Dog for ruining a fantastic franchise. I'd give them 0/10 stars if I could.

    All these people giving it fake reviews need to grow up. Maybe that’s why they can’t get over the story! Don’t listen to people hating on this game. It’s not as good as the first one but it’s still a masterpiece in game making. You won’t find a better game in world building, the animation, the acting. MUST PLAY.

This is a revenge story in the purest sense. The entire plot is to show how stupid and meaningless and destructive revenge is. How blind hatred for others will destroy everything. Ellie ends up alone because she couldn’t come to terms with her loss. Abby doesn’t want to fight at the end because she realizes that her getting revenge didn’t make her feel any better and cost her all of her friends as well. This game is absolutely incredible and I really really enjoyed this as the sequel to my previous favorite game ever. The graphics are astounding, the player movements are so realistic looking that sometimes you just want to move in weird ways to see the models follow, the game design is good with some new and interesting enemies and a wider playing area that allows a bit more of strategy. Overall I think Naughty Dog hit it out of the park.… Expand

I was so upset when Joel was killed, but after what he did in the first game, it’s believable that was his demise. The story was so good, Ellie was losing herself after losing Joel, and her rage was so real. And Abby- at first I hated her. But it did a really great job at making you feel for her, and why she was so determined to get to Joel. I ended up loving her by the end of the game. Plus, that boss fight in the hospital scared the crap out of me! I loved it! There’s just so much amazing stuff about this game. Like the way you upgraded your weapons, the graphics (phenomenal) and the story- 10/10 for me. The only complaint about the game I have was the ending, it just kinda fell a little flat. But it did a great job at showing what this need for revenge costed Ellie. I already played through it twice, I loved it!… Expand

My play through took me three weeks to get through because I am an adult with a job and a family, this game had potential to be absolutely Game of the year but lost it due to bad narrative and lack of open world. In 2020 to release a game that feels like its on rails is shocking. Gameplay was especially the same with a jump button. After digging deeper into why everyone has a problem with this game I find its not the game but the developer and Sony’s reaction to people who don’t agree with the treatment of beloved characters. To me that entire branch felt more of a useless side-quest, as she abandons all her friends and allies for two enemies that saved her. Where my hate really started kicking in was when you HAD to fight Ellie as Abby. I went into the last of us 2 without seeing anything leaked. I enjoyed the begining of the game and up to the conflict of Abby killing Joel. I didn't mind Joel dying specifically but the problem is playing as the person who brutally killed that person is a bit hard for me to get over. I will be honest I turned my game off and haven't played anymore so I will do my best with a number that fits with what I've now watched and played. The game looks beautiful and the music is nice but the story at least up to the character switch is okay. After that I had to watch someone play because I couldn't. The atmosphere doesn’t fall short in making you feel alone and miserable, as every enterable building or area has it’s own story. Reading the letters by those whose corpses have decomposed with those letters in their hands, tell stories that can make you feel like playing a side-quest at every possible location where such artefacts are found. The detail of this game needs much more appreciation. Lastly, the story, is controversial yet the message it gives is a life lesson which us, the young inexperienced people of this world will not understand and it is a known fact that we, humans, always get afraid of what we Don’t understand. You might not ‘get’ the story or you might not like it, but I’m sure you will understand it when you ponder upon it years after ‘surviving’. You will see what was taught to us through this game was true. And then The Last of Us Part II will be appreciated by each and everyone of you, I know. Please love the people who have given us this ‘change’. Love them because in this world where the world works on the basis of money, they dared to do something out of the box, which already is damaging them.     Naughty Dog said what they said. At least they make FIFA and COD every year for the people who genuinely couldn't handle it.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
