    The writing is without a doubt the worst part of it, the pacing is all over the place and the new characters are introduced in a forced manner (let alone, the conversations/interactions seem just as forced).
    To be honest, I kind of foresaw Joel's death. But killing him right off the bat within the first few hours into the game, just lets me as a fan down. A character's death is something that needs to be used properly, however using the main character for just shock value and giving a simple target (Abby), is not enough. (The overall negative experience is once more reinforced, since you play as said target for a good portion of the game). Of course, the ending doesn't even give the much anticipated catharsis. It makes me all the more angry seeing others who were even more hyped than me seeing this disappointing tragedy unfold itself. I seriously pity everyone who put so much effort into this game, into this franchise. The graphics and sound design are absolutely phenomenal. But a bad writer can ruin everything.

    Deleted after 5.5 hours, which were mostly spent bumping into things while looking for loot or falling to my death due to the terrible controls and sluggish camera. The brutality and gore are quite apalling. Hopefully I will be able to get a refund.

    On every level except graphics the game fails to deliver anything enjoyable to the player coming from the first game. Even if some of the story choices don't bother you it's still nothing new, a classic revenge story that just ends up confusing you by the end and there's nothing you can do about it. Playing as Ellie there are multiple times where her facial expressions just look so terrible it made me laugh, from what I saw only happens to her but at least doesn't happen during cut scenes. If you're a fan (I feel so sorry for you and for what terrible choices they made with the story and characters) or If you played through the first and just wanted to finish the story, in both cases you should just completely forget this game exists. You'll have more fun and enjoy yourself more by NOT playing the last of us 2 .… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. “The last of us part I” is only considered a powerful story because it’s bold ending. The story without it is simple, linear and I it is quite standard. Of course it has good pace and amazing performances from all the cast, but it’s filed with a very old Hollywood cliche: “traumatized grumpy middle age man gets soft after is forced to deal with a teenage rebel”. The game world is vast in possibilites and Part II takes advantage of them, filling the not so linear story with a interesting background: the Seraphites reminds me of “The Handmaid’s Tale” world where religion is used as a pillar stone to manipulate and control people in a world of crisis. The WLF plot line demonstrates how a prominent society can be subdued to a twisted leader. But this informations of the world can only be enjoyed as long as you explore every corner of the game. And I was thrilled when the story took us to the Seraphite Island.

    Since I despised Joel’s decision to lie in the ending of the first game, his fate in Part II is not revolting to my eyes, and it reminded me of choice/consequence like Robb Stark and The Red Wedding. Where a choice based on a noble sentiment such as love, can cause damage to others as a whole.

    Ellie felt way more interesting as a character in Part I than Joel; and her shift in personality in Part II is believable after all the trauma and lies she suffered through all her life. Abby’s storyline is well constructed when dealing on the consequences after Joel’s murder and her motivations runs in opposite direction as Ellie’s, until of course the point she is forced to review it.

    In the end, when both Ellie and Abby decide not to kill each other (yes, Abby could easily attack Ellie from behind while she was crying) we understand the unbalanced weight of vengeance versus forgiveness, and the incredible loss faced by both of them while choosing to learn this balance it in the most brutal way.    … Expand

The gameplay is pretty much the same in some ways but the story is pure SJWs fantasy with dumb decisions and plot lines. The graphics are good but is a huge dissapointment. I haven't finished the game but I don't feel like to. I'll trade it for something else...anything else..thanDespite the leaks, i wanted to give the game the benefit of the doubt.     I played ten minutes of the game at a friends house and considered buying it myself. Luckily i though to myself i should read some reviews just to be sure and i am happy i did. Played trough the game with my friend and we both agree with the reviews here.

    The game is beautiful and feels just like the original, but the story, oh the story. it doesn't feel like a story, it feels like an assignment that you get 3 hours at school to write.

    Its a bad revenge story that kills off my favorite video-game character and ruins the other. its something completely different than its predecessor.

    As someone that played trough the original seven times and has been hyped for this game since the first sign of trailers back in 2017. The letdown this game was made me cry. I could never imagine that i would be using this evening to write about how much i hate instead of telling my friends how good it was.

    Don't even consider buying this "game", save your money for Cyberpunk 2077 or anything else but this. Luckily for me it didn't cost me anything

    If you're into good graphics and game play, you should consider putting it last on your list because this just isn't worth it.

I played the rest of the game for him as he watched and in the end what he said broke my heart "Is that it? Why did they do that?", he was sad about how ruined the story was and what they have done to the characters that he loved from the first game. I watched his enthusiasm turn to hate as he lost interest and not want to watch anymore. Definitely not a worthy sequel to the original.    … Expand

    A huge dissapointment after the first game. They ruin the characters we came to love just to push their political agenda. The game may look beautiful but most games do nowadays. This was supposed to be a game with a wowing story and only disappoints.

    Why they feel the need to ruin everything that was once good is beyond me. Not that the first part didn’t have its faults (the player should’ve been given the choice at the end rather than be forced to kill all the doctors) but oh my this is bad!

    A story based game requires a good story to be successful, so when Naughty Dog's speciality fails in this area, then the maximum I am willing to rate it is 5. To be very clear, it's not WHAT happened, it's HOW. It's not the gender or race of characters, but the the emptiness of their souls and the alien choices they make.

    One may be quick to assume that the theme of this game is    A story based game requires a good story to be successful, so when Naughty Dog's speciality fails in this area, then the maximum I am willing to rate it is 5. To be very clear, it's not WHAT happened, it's HOW. It's not the gender or race of characters, but the the emptiness of their souls and the alien choices they make.

    One may be quick to assume that the theme of this game is revenge, however I would make the case that 'contrived' would be more accurate. Any question the director may have hoped to ask the audience about revenge is quietened by the shallowness of the characters and the nonsensical choices they make, all to forward the story in a direction so forced that I think it should file a sexual assault allegation against Naughty Dog.

    To say that a game can't be rated bad because things didn't happen in a way that I liked, does not detract from the fact that it was objectively poor writing, therefore it does not align with the previous game. If they want to make stories that aim at another target group then go ahead, but the reason it hurts people so much is because they should have done it with a new franchise instead of ripping up an already loved one just to please someone else. It is clear that the old was (literally) slaughtered to make way for the new, hense the injustice felt by many TLOU1 fans.

    Token diversity characters aren't treated as real people with real personalities, ironically most of them die anyway and for some reason they didn't make Abby an ethnically diverse character.
    Something that's been bugging me for a while about Naughty Dog, has anyone else noticed how every prominent black woman is never fully black, but a mixed complexion, Nadine in Uncharted, Marlene, Riley, Nora... It's not a problem for me however a character looks, but I'm starting to think they are afraid to make a woman who is very black... like they don't really care about diversity at all. To think they are diverse game makers is a lie. They just get to check diversity boxes.

    Shorter notes:
    -It goes on too long, could have cut out at least 5 hours and been much better for it.
    -Boring dialogue, especially during open world.
    -Joel and Ellie do not have any of their personality traits from the first game.
    -Feels like LGBT fetish porn throughout.
    -False advertising based on original trailers not reflecting final product.
    -More difficult infected enemies should have been introduced during open world as it was boring.

    Pros:
    -Fun game play
    -New melee options
    -New infected enemies

    In conclusion:

    One of the most upsetting parts is the earlier trailers suggest Joel plays a much larger part in the game. I'd easily call it false advertising. This is why I marked it down from 5 to 4. It's not my problem that they decided to remake it half way through production to render the teasers completely irrelevant. We had already pre-ordered.

    It suffers the same problems as a standard Hollywood lazy churn out blockbuster, but took triple the time to produce. I will not be investing in future Naughty Dog games, Naughty Dog has lost it's reputation as one of the best.

    Was it really worth the huge re-write half way through production, making the original trailer no longer exist in the final product? I wish I could have played that game instead.    … Expand
