    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, where to start. I was anticipating this game for a very long time after the playing the first. Gutted.

    The gameplay is painfully dull and more often than not pointless as everything interesting happens in very long cutscenes. It's not even worth talking about.

    The 'moral' of the story is absolutely weak. Revenge isnt the right way? After being forced to kill every member of Abbys team, you leave her alive? The woman who murdered Joel? The reason for the entire story? There is no reason to make her seem 'good', she killed Joel in revenge and then acts like Ellie is stupid for trying to take revenge on her? The most interesting characters are killed off unceremoniously (Jessie, Joel, Mel, Owen) and for what? Nothing gets resolved? You might as well have made a film instead of a game, but then you couldn't charge £60 for it hey?

    I dont mind Joel dying, although he deserved something less mundane. Some story elements were really well done, but sadly they were few and far between. There is 0 enjoyment in this game. Watch someone play it if you want to see the story, but god you aren't missing a thing by not spending a ridiculous amount of money on it.

    This was VERY VERY BAD. They try or better words force there views and beliefs on you while playing this game and by doing so they through away all caricature development and replace it with a terrible story. Wish this game kept political views out, really no one cares or wants to see this while playing games. We just want a good game with a good story. Keep the junk out of it. #getwokegobroke

    What a fantastic game.
    Absolute great experience to play after the first part. I've waiteted a long time for this game to play and I definitely wasn't disappointed yet. The look is awesome in comparison to other AAA Games, the performance is great on PS4 and Pro and this isn't a standard anymore. Definitely worth playing

I’m only about 5 hours into the game so take it with a grain of salt but I can agree with most of these reviews and am truly baffled by the number from the “critics” giving this game a 95! Honestly, I almost stopped playing after Joel was killed. I almost threw up I was so disgusted with how ND decided to kill off probably the most loved character in gaming history. Truly a slap in the face.

    It’s also questionable, imo, to have such a “woke” storyline. Practically turning off most gamers. I’m not homophobic but I would appreciate if not everything in my life is someone/something trying to push their progressive political views on me.

    If I wanted that **** in my life I would create a Twitter account and join the “woke”, “cancel-culture” crowd of 20-30 year olds with a functioning brain power of 5 year olds.

    I’ll finish the game no doubt, but I already know it will be forgotten in a week. Unlike the first game that still brings up fond memories.    … Expand

    graphics are amazing, the gameplay has gotten worse , you get that smah one button scenes, story is bad just watch frist 2 hours and the last 2 and you are more than done they also added lgb.... crap in the game, too many scenes some of which even R+ rated, i encountered many bugs on my gameplay not gonna spoil for you    pure garbagem if zombie fungus is real then this is it,

    O impossível se tornou real com essa sequência. Quem ia imaginar que TLOU seria superado em absolutamente todos os aspectos? Da trama densa e impactante ao visual que é uma verdadeira pintura, temos um gameplay refinadíssimo, que evoluiu em tudo o que a ND fez nos ultimos anos. O jogo simplesmente não tem defeitos, algo raro nos dias de hoje. Que venha a parte 3!

    As a gamer who loved the first Last of Us and was anticipating this sequel, I have to say that I'm very disappointed. I give it a 1 only because the actors and graphics were phenomenal. These actors made their characters come to life. However, everything else was saddening. The story and characters are boring and forced. I can't believe they released this garbage sequel.

    so when i checked the reviews with no spoiler and even after i know about the leaks i was open minded to play the again. After the game is released which is 19 june 2020 around 12 am i started playing continously in 22 hours which takes two days this is what i am thinking after i finished the game and fyi i played the first part it was 9/10 for me sometimes the mechanics was grumpy in part 1
    so last of us part 2 i dont know where to begin in 1 hour and 5o minutes my favourite character is dead so found my strength and anger to kill who is responsible is. The character development is 100% garbage why i am saying this hear me out why after joels death ellie who we are playing is hunting abby i was able to play with it i was commited to it but when you play as abby things turn around which is naughty dog trying so hard to make what abby did was right that is my basic conclusion
    why i am saying this because you cannot play hero and villain thats how life works in real life you included in same game maybe a dlc but i dont think my opinion is changing even after that playing abby was like they are trying to prove a point most people would hate it because you are playing as villain here which you guys trying so hard to make what abby did was right there is no character development the only character development i see here is joel but he is dead in the start of the game ellie she is same for me but letting go abby even after everything you did to get to this point. The way i see its waste of time to play the game you letting go the killer who killed your father aka fatherly figure. For me the game ends after joel death other things happening are just collateral damage if she didnt go for revenge jesse will be alive , dina wouldnt leave ellie which she will at the end of the game, tommy would be with his wife. Like i said its collateral damage more people dying whom you know and the people are getting hurt whom you know. So playing as abby she is the real winner because she get what she wants but which cost her friends life which i dont care anyways. The people saying about lgbtq issue but i dont care about it anyways thats not issue for me only thing i liked about the game is graphics, gameplay which it didnt win over me except the stealth part crafting and the other stuff i felt its just the same like part 1. So people who are thinking of buying dont buy now wait for like 5 or 6 months cost will be way less just like death stranding thats wait for it thats how i bought and played for 15 bucks worth it kinda whoever played this game giving review like 10 out of 10 means mostly they are fake just think for a minute even after everything i played it do you ask me it was worth it i would say 40% percent because hereafter any game naughty dog releases i would wait for a while which i should have done in the first place for tlou 2 just out of curiosity i bought it and i am not happy about it    … Expand

    The story is complete trash... Neil Druckman ruined the series, him and every other scenarist of the game.

    The game starts beautifully, Joel immediately explains what happened in the hospital and during the game, we can see what's happening between Ellie and Joel with a few flashbacks. But we can not see the rest of the 4 years of relationship between our protagonists because Joel gets killed like as if he is a monster and villain by some random characters. Ellie is included in cycle of revenge and the story continues. After that we play with the random character called Abby and find out that she is the surgeon's daughter Joel killed in the first game. From every point, things get ridiculous. That surgeon was nothing more than a NPC, he didn't have a little background at all and no one didn't even know who Abby is. She came out of nowhere and destroyed the character development, the story. After that the game forces players to play as Abby and tries to make players sympathize with Abby. Unfortunately the damage is gone. The developer tries to integrate the doctor's importance with some flashbacks. Furthermore Ellie and the characters who are around her turns into worthless living beings against Abby Then the story comes to an end but it's terrible as well like the rest of the story. The final scene tells everyone that everything was for nothing. Complicated time line, unexpected characters and scenes, excellent motivations, touching backgrounds, turning players against the main characters. This game is a masterpiece! Hmm, nope.

    In a nutshell, this game is a disrespect to all gamers who saw Joel and Ellie's story and felt their emotions, characters, the world that the developer created. Contradictory decisions which isn't fit with characters, wasted emotions and character developments for a cheap cycle of revenge, uninteresting new characters, unnecessary sex scene, exaggerated violence, incoherent and meaningless ending.

    i finished rn these game and in my opinion the story of part 2 was better than the part 1, but, i do not enjoy the political messages that The Last of Us Part II was forcing and forcing to tell to the gamer. Also the game has a little time of gameplay, is like 80% cinematics, and 20% of gamepllay, so... if i want to see a story im i do prefer watch a movie or read a book

So here is what I think: Pros: - gameplay - graphics - atmosphere - sound - music All those parts are undeniable very good. Its top notch. Sure the controls sometimes feel weird but they do in most of the games. It would be unfair to say this game isnt up to date in terms of all those points I mentioned. Cons: - story - character design - character development - plot holes So, even with all the pros this game is really really bad. It makes NO sense that Ellie act how she acts in certain parts of the game but that isnt even the biggest thing about why its bad. The reason is: character development. If you kill one of the most beloved characters early in the game (Joel) and want to bring in new main playable characters like Abby, you HAVE to bring WAY more backstory in order to make the player feel with her. I mean she KILLED Joel! How do you make the player like her? Bring more and more backstory before she does that. Let the players play 2-10h as Abby when she was a child or whatever. The backstory of her is basically told in 10minutes and then her dad is being killed. Thats it? And now I have to feel with her and understand why she killed Joel? Hell no! That is weak story telling. Really really weak. Then there are all the other new characters. Nobody is likeable. Like really. They all feel empty. They are only shells without any meaning. This game is just bad. Do yourself a favor and dont buy it. The reviews the journalists wrote are either bought by Sony or ND or are heavily politicly influenced. Sad thing is: because of that same journalists will most likely make this game GOTY. What a joke. Safe your money and buy something else. And last but not least: this is technically a very good game but the story/characters is/are SO bad it just doesnt matter how well the rest is done. You want a good revenge story? Watch "Oldboy" then you know how to make a good revenge story that shocks everybody to their core. This game right here? Its garbage. End of story… Expand

Ok here we go, the first half of the game I loved it, loved the mechanics, gameplay, even though it hurt so **** much watching Joel die, I was still enjoying the game, the problem comes when you spend half the **** game playing as the character that kills Joel..... Are you **** serious, I understand... That way you understand her motives and all but really???? Half the game???????? I bought this to play as Ellie, it breaks my heart really, I was having so much fun in the first half, theres some cool moments playing as Abby but for the most part I was begging for it to end, for that reason this game has no replay value for me, I feel really disappointed… Expand

I simply didn't enjoy playing as Abby, so for around 5-6 hours I painfully aware of how, in her section, the game was force feeding me background to try make me like her and feel bad for her as a character. Her section of the game came off as forced and it was simply poor story telling. It was also a stupid idea to have us play as Abby in a boss fight and sparing Abby in the conclusion made no sense in the context of the rest of the game and was very unsatisfactory, not to mention infuriating. The game still had undeniably good gameplay until it got a bit repetitive, and the audio, gore, and graphics, made me really enjoy the first 10ish hours.… Expand

The cycle of revenge between either side was pointless and what I mean by repetitive. Spoiler Abby killed Joel. Then Ellie wants revenge. She killed all the group of the Salt lake squad. Abby finds out and went to confront Ellie. She killed Jesse and let Ellie go. Few months/Years, Ellie wants revenge again and asked Abby to fight her. After all, this happened, She let her go. So repetitive! Ellie killed a pregnant woman and all Abby's friend and she didn't kill Ellie? Because the scar child gave her a look? But she brutally killed Joel. We all know Joel was not a good guy. He was a smuggler and a murderer before he met Ellie. He didn't even want Ellie. However, there should be justice like Arthur Morgan in RD2. He is still a character we loved. I don't mind if he died really. All decision has consequences. Also, the fact that you are playing the person that killed one of the major characters that you love in the first game and tries you to feel bad for this person that you really don't care. I was on Ellie's side all the way. I get why she has to kill Joel but I really don't care about her which ruin half of the game. If Abby's story was a DLC then I probably wouldn't mind. I also like to point out that Ellie's storyline in Seattle was more of a generic video game story. Like you have to find and kill the other people of the group before you fight the main boss. That's a Basic storyline. What happened to the emotional storytelling for example when Joel fell from the balcony and got stab by a pipe or something. He nearly died. He was sick for a month and Ellie was captured by a paedophile and was about to get abuse. Joel has to save her but she's the one who killed the man. That was an emotional scene and a perfect example of great storytelling.

    If you really like The Last of Us, then please don't play this game. Its story telling and characters ruin the franchise. It's almost like a bad tumblr fanfiction at some points. Just go and play the original game. And then just let it be. Let it end with the first one and never touch the second part. It will ruin your view of the whole franchise.

    What a terrible game. Yes, the mechanics and graphics are pretty good but the story is terribly written.
    There is not really any tension because they reveal whats happening first and showing us flashback nobody cares about. Some people try to make this about LGBT+ but this game is objectively bad.

    Let me prelude this by saying I don't often review games, as each person's opinion is subjective, Its only when a game is abysmally terrible, or absolutely outstanding that I decide to share my opinion. This game was the former, awful. It really says something when your own production crew starts leaving before a AAA game is released. Not good signs.
    When the lead designer/producer expresses they do not care about how people feel as the play the game, serious red flags. Isn't that the opposite of how it should be?

    Lets start out with gameplay.

    Gameplay was OK. It wasn't anything special for a game with 7 years in development. The fighting and overall controls left me wanting something else, this gameplay was overall too generic. If you told me an indie company made these controls, or this game was quickly put together in a year's time, I'd believe you. The game play is something I'd maybe pay 5 bucks for, maybe an extreme sale down the road, so long as I can skip any and all story. Speaking of that, lets move onto story.

    There are often games where the story is so intriguing that it makes you overlook obvious gameplay issues, BUT THIS IS NOT IT. This story is, how to put it, one of the largest let downs in gaming that I have ever seen. The story, like many modern games, is almost like an interactive movie where your choices have no impact, but you feel like you're doing something. Thats fine, but its the content that really gets to me.

    In the first TLOU the two main characters were beautifully developed and that is what made the first game so loved. There was a clear thought, backstory, practicality, and believably in what you saw. You were able to relate to the characters. The second game decided well f*** all that work from the first game, F*** anyone who even slightly likes those characters, and how about a good ole' dose of forced narrative.

    Without any major spoilers, the new story shoves a forced prospective so far down your throat that you're just waiting for the moment the game finally finishes and you can forget it forever. The old main characters were disgraced, they act nothing like themselves and the poorly written new characters spit on their faces. The new character was written to have a feeling of you don't like this character than you're a piece of s***". This is not how I want to feel while playing a game, nor is it something I want forced on me.

    While you can judge for yourself, I would highly recommend skipping this game.

    Do yourself a favor and do what every other rational minded person is doing, pretend this game never existed and that the series ended at TLOU 1. Go read some fan fiction, or imagine how their story ended yourself, because I can guarantee that anything ending that you or a fan decides to give this story, will be better than what was published here.

TLOU I consider to be the greatest game of all time and that’s because it was an ambitious and sobering experience. TLOU 2 takes risks and I vibe with it. A safe story is NOT the last of us. I cannot fathom the writing team sitting in a conference room and collectively agreeing to destroy an entire fan base who have waited 7 long years for a continuation to Joel and Ellie's story. I can't think of a bigger throat punch to fans in gaming history. You were right Neil Druckman, The ending did bring tears. Tears ofThis "sequel" has humiliated it's fans and it's own pedigree.     An intense and amazing experience from beginning to end. Truly masterful storytelling, dialogue, gameplay and visuals. A must play with strong interesting characters. Ellie is even slightly more bad ass than the first one :)

    Absolute joke of a game. I waited 7 years for ND to ruin what could have been the greatest game of all time. The game's story dosen't line up with the first game and neglected the crucial established character traits of the main characters is reminiscent of GOT's failure in season 8. Hopefully the game is revealed to just be a bad dream by ellie by the devs

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
