This game is GREAT! It saddens me to see all these homophobic bigots reviewing this game so poorly. If you're going to write a review on why the story is bad don't just say "The story is bad don't buy" actually explain why the story's bad. Also people saying they finished the game, you didn't, its a 30 hour game and its only been like 16 hours since the game came out. Also for the people complaining about "censorship issues" Sony does not care what kind of fetishes you have. If you find this review bad, fine then. I don't care. I'm not going to say "everyone who disagrees with me is hitler" but what I am gonna say is actually buy the game if you're going to do a review on it. Don't just say you're writing a review because "the leaks showed me everything" or "there's a woman who's has muscles in the game meaning shes trans (women can have muscles too) and stronger than me don't buy!" don't be that kind of person. Gay people can be gay people, trans people can be trans people, and lesbians can be lesbians. Don't be homophobic. Expand

    What I liked:
    • Graphics and visuals were amazing.
    • Game mechanics were improved from the original. • Some of the action sequences were unique and interesting. • The music was great when there was music. It felt like there was far less music in this game versus the original. What I didn't like: • The combat and looting got repetitive at times. • The game felt unnecessarily long.

    • The game felt unnecessarily long.
    • The dodge mechanic seemed to be a required quick time event to trigger the advancement of some fight sequences, which was confusing and felt unnecessarily gated.
    • The story was a bit of a let down, and wasn't enough to keep me engaged.

At the end of the day, this is a story driven game. While I generally enjoyed some of the combat elements of the game, I did not like the plot of the story. Perhaps I will change my opinion in time, but for now my feelings are mixed towards this game.

Expand

A miserable experience almost from start to finish. What little fun that could be derived from the gameplay is completely undermined by a confoundingly poor story. The game is plagued by horrendous pacing issues, huge amounts of scavenging downtime and bleak, uninteresting dialogue, amid many more problems.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was hyped about the game since it was announced and I have forced myself to not watch a single trailer until I got to play the game to keep the entire surprise to myself.

And what a surprise when I started the game to see Joel be beaten to death by this unknown character from an unknown group. I was taken by the guts and wanted revenge just as much as Ellie in what seemed to be a long-to be adventure to Seattle.

However, where I was first disappointed was when I thought we would have a Ellie/Dina adventure all the way from Wyoming to Seattle filled with beautiful scenaries and interesting dialogs in a TLoU1-like adventure just turned into a teleportation all the way to Seattle. From there, it was just an overdose of gunfights with enemy and infected until the part where you control Abby for the second part of the game, to re-do a Seattle-through adventure but by another point of view, which is, also, excessively filled with gunfights at the point I was just forcing myself to play in Seattle Day 3 in order to get to know the end of the story.

The end of the story, which was according to popular opinion, somehow completely rubbish was in my opinion really deep and relatable as to see Ellie's character which developed into the young lady she is now and all the terrible things she had to suffer and to see her completely, completely exhausted in the final fight with Abby and who just wants everything to stop and regrets going on such a revenge quest.

It was just overwhelmingly sad to see Ellie, which I thought had somewhat of a bright future in Tommy's camp, forced to fight again and to lose everything and everyone she loved and lived for. And to see her going back to the farm where she left Dina to see an abandonned and emptied house was a very sad yet, to me, satisfying end to the game and made me feel so sorry for Ellie.

She had everything, and this everything all went away in an instant and she lost so much more, including her soul, by going on a revenge quest accross the country. Which maybe, for some of the haters out there, could be something for them to reflect on.

In conclusion : I really loved the game and I think the story was just amazing but I think in terms of gameplay choices, there was way too many gunfights and meaningless confrontations as long with an excessively long part of playing Abby for a player that wanted to know more about Ellie. Another thing to avoid such disapointment amongst players would have been to give to the players the choice to either kill Abby or not, and possibly, see the results of our actions on Ellie's mental health.

If I would have one advice to anyone who wants to play the game after playing The Last of Us Part 1, just play it, but gradually, and just let yourself be carried by the story this game has to tell.

A painfully honest take from someone who loved the first game and went into the sequel knowing the leaks but was willing to give it a chance: The more you care about/like the first game for its story and characters, the less I can recommend the sequel to you.

The good: The graphics and natural feeling of the environments are simply incredible. The music is also great and I liked the use of the guitar throughout. The attention to detail when customizing your guns and how your character's expression changes when doing a takedown really helped immerse me.

Unfortunately, it was not a world I wanted to be immersed in. While most of my issues with the game stem from its story and characters, I will briefly touch on the combat: it's fine. If you're looking for vast improvements from the first game I think you will be disappointed. The jump button rarely got used, and while the counter system and being able to go prone expands your possibilities in combat, I found myself getting bored with the lack of variety of enemies, both human and infected.

Now the story... The "revenge is bad" narrative gets hammered into your head throughout the entire game, but the writing feels all over the place. The heavy use of flashbacks (excluding the fantastic ones with Joel and Ellie) is distracting and works especially against Abby. If we were given insight into her past earlier on and progressed through the story swapping between her and Ellie, I feel like her character would have come across as more fleshed out and perhaps even more likable.

Having to play as Abby for about 10 hours straight after knowing what she did to Joel and and Ellie was honestly torture. I just couldn't get myself to like her, and ended up hating her more than I expected after seeing how Joel saves her and Ellie spares her. If not killing Abby was "the right thing," why did I just spend all of that time killing countless people and losing the people Ellie cares about?

Simply put, I was really frustrated with the decisions of the characters and the entire story as a whole. If it was another game where story was less of a focus I would probably give it a higher score, but this is Joel and Ellie we're talking about.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What you have here is a game with stunning graphics (just like the first) and mediocre, clunky, slow, and outdated gameplay (just like the first).

What made the first a masterpiece was not its gameplay, but its characters and story. It was a journey of loss and gain, of despair and salvation, of a father and daughter. How a father would do anything to protect his daughter.

This game fails to capture that at all. Taking all the ham-fisted agenda out of the mix as well as the actions taken by Naughty Dog and Sony in the lead up to the release...the story itself is just poorly told. We get no payoff to the events that concluded the first game. You get Joel acting uncharacteristically stupid, being emasculated, and then being unceremoniously slaughtered right off the bat. Die patriarchy. But it also means we get no resolution between Joel and Ellie in relation to the conclusion of the first game.

No one gives a hoot about Abby. She’s not a compelling character. She’s not a likable character. Yet we’re stuck with her for much of the game. And then when all is said and done we don’t even get a proper resolution to the revenge story arc. Ellie kills hundreds of people just to let Abby live, because reasons. Abby accomplishes her goal. Woohoo. Meanwhile Ellie has lost everything. Her father, her partner, her fingers, her friends...but hey...crippling depression is all the rage.

You have a ton of media either kissing its rear because of its “progressive themes” or because they are afraid of losing access. It’s not THAT good. Get real. And then you have a lot of fanboys and fangirls that haven’t yet come to terms with how bad the story actually is. This is a “The Last Jedi” situation through and through. When you sacrifice story and character for agenda this is what happens. Probably wrote the story in an afternoon.

The user score here have been made by people, and this is a pure and transparent way to warn other people whether it's a good or bad title. This is a powerful form of democratic power, and this is showing. Even if this s****y game starts to raise above 5.0, it is still a democratic way of voting.

This being said, let's talk about the game.
I already saw the whole cutscenes, the whole game, and also the ending.
For me, games like this, not competitive ones that more on the narrative side, are meant to be played like they were movies. When you finish it for the first time, there's no point in playing it again to get a platinum trophy for a game that you already know everything about in terms of story.
Therefore, this is a game that focuses on NARRATIVE, it focuses on the story, the background, the characters and everything that surrounds them, the soundtrack that is playing that suits everything perfectly.

This game have been made by professionals, some of the best ones. All the actors of the motion capture have done a beautiful job, the tech teams have done a great job in blending the graphics with the environment and all is done perfectly, the soundtrack is a piece of art.
The only thing that makes me vote like this, and made this uproar are the choices that have been made for the story. AND the questionable type of gameplay. Same as the first one, imo.
It's not a rant of a GoT-like fan that sees his character die and whines, it's not like that. I don't have anything against LGBTQ, I don't give a damn about stuff like this just because I think everyone should have same opportunities.
Simply all the wrong choices have been made to turn this game in a propagandised game and a "do-gooding" ending is the cherry on top. Ellie turning out to be a Jesus-like girl that forgives everything.

What in the actual f**k? Are you really serious? You put us in this situation, where Joel is killed EXACTLY like a certain character of TWD, by a character that is completely anonymous, son/daughter of a f*****g SCRIPTED secondary character that you see by the ending of TLOU 1.
BY A SCRIPTED character, meaning that you DEFINITELY knew that you were going to turn the story like this from the beginning, or, if not, you just wanted that surgeon to be a part of something relevant, OF COURSE.
This could have been done PERFECTLY.
Listen to me: what about doing like the old Mass Effect games, but BETTER?

Let's give the player the opportunity to kill the surgeon, that was a civilian doing his job to save humanity, or to let him live, just knocking him out.
You killed him in TLOU 1? You got this story and this ending.
You didn't kill him? Or, even better, did you restart TLOU to get to that point and DON'T kill him?
Good, you will now get a different story with a better ending.
That would have been a GREAT way to make this game the masterpiece that we were waiting for, fusing an old mechanic into something new.
Shame to all the "Critic Reviews" that are PAID to say that it is worth 100 score.
This is a game that doesn't give us new gameplay. It just gives us a "story update".

I've bought TLOU on PS3 and the remastered for PS4 without hesitation, but you won't have a cent from me for TLOU 2. Not this time.

Without giving any spoilers characters act way outside of their personalities and it feels like someone wanted to retcon the first game. Destroyed the story in a story driven game. It feels like fan fiction written/directed by a D+ 10th grade creative writing student. I would love if the company would admit the mix up, release a new TLOU II and made this one non cannon. I would pay $120 for a basic game just to see this done. 0 means you didn’t even put your name on the paper.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is by far the worst game I have played. It hurts me to write this as the first games holds a dear place in my heart. Here are my complaints:
1.) Joel: Joel somehow, though still going out of Jackson to hunt, has turned soft. He and Tommy both give out their names to a group of ARMED strangers and offer for them to come back to camp. It was heart-wrenching to see him be killed off in the first three hours, and the reasoning behind his death was terrible.
2.) Not only was it enough for ND to kill off Joel, they make you play as his killer for 10+ hours... no thank you. Nothing you could have done would make me like her. Especially since they have the game begin with his death. Maybe, if they had made Abby's gameplay first we would have gained more sympathy for her, but no.
3.) Tommy: So Tommy gets shot in the head by Abby in the theater, and somehow survives, it'd be hard enough to survive in today's world with that kind of injury, let alone a post apocalyptic. When we see Tommy again, he informs us that Abby is still alive. He wants us (Ellie) to go after her again ALONE after nearly dying by her earlier. We settled a life on the farm with Dina and her baby. Ellie doesn't want to go, and Tommy gets mad at her, it is so out of character for Tommy to act that way, it pains me to even watch that scene. They butchered his character along with the game.
Overview: Gameplay is great, graphics are phenomenal, but there it'll be a cold day in Hell before I play this game again. The first game was great, it's a shame to see Neil Druckmann ruin yet another series. The 7 year wait was not worth it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLDR This game is a mixed bag. The game has clearly made some serious gameplay improvements. The visuals are stunning and run smooth on my PS4 Slim. The biggest disappointment is the story. If you intend to play this game with the hopes of getting a story with the caliber and emotional moments as the first game you will be disappointed. The game is far too long and is full of itself and the gameplay can't make up for that.

First off I would like to start with the good. As many others have said the game is visually stunning. The game runs smooth on my PS4 Slim and have yet to experience any frame drops. Voice acting is good as is expected the script may not be great but it is acted well. The gameplay is not a massive improvement over the first game but is a much more polished version of that combat system. With the addition of more useful skills to learn and upgrades the gameplay overall feels better. Enemy AI is a mixed bag. Sometimes they flank you and can give you tough time. Other times they are as dumb as can be. The first introduction to Seattle has a sort of open world feel. Where you have a few locations to explore with the goal of finding gasoline. It is a nice concept that the game oddly chooses to never make use of again. Some of the new characters are genuinely likeable although that is certainly a subjective opinion and your opinion may vary.

The worst part about this game is the story and writing. Many will be upset by the early death of Joel as it feels unearned and is intentionally brutal. It is sad to say but this situation seems to occur so early for the sake of the shock factor of it. I generally do not have a problem with this so long as the game justifies itself and the brutality it put us and Ellie through. The game sadly fails to do so and turns into a generic poorly executed story on the violent cycle of revenge.

In the first Last of Us there is a constant theme of hope in an otherwise bleak world. Ellie is the heart of that game and her interactions with Joel are what I believe makes it resonate with its audience. Gone is this theme of hope for a better future. Ellie is understanbly overcome with rage over the death of Joel and consumed by it. But in her trek for revenge she nearly loses herself. By the end of the game Ellie is broken and has given up nearly everything that made her happy for vengeance. A vengeance she ultimately cannot see through. Ellie and the player are psychologically tortured in this game and in a way it seems to me that Naughty Dog intended to paint her as a villain of the story and perhaps the villain of the story. This falls flat due to the motivations and actions of the new character Abby. Abby kills Joel in cold blood and in return has Ellie, Tommy, Jesse and Dina hunting herself and her friends. Although ultimately Ellie does most of the killing. It is with Abby that the utterly fails. The game takes a twist toward the later stages where you are forced into the shoes of Abby. We see that her father was the Firefly doctor who was going to make a cure using Ellie at the end of the first game. Although this justification feels cheap. Marlene is shown to be conflicted about killing Ellie to make the cure and Abby's father is not. Leading up to one of the dumbest lines in this entire game. As her father is contemplating killing Ellie to create the cure Abby says to him "If it was me I'd want you to do the surgery." This presents a problem as now it seems pretty clear that the firefly's didn't care whether or not Ellie wanted to be martyred for their hope a cure. This cast further doubts onto the already dubious act that Abby commits. If the game did not attempt to make us and in turn Ellie feel bad about these actions it would be irrelevant to a degree. But the game seems to actively take the stance that Joel was definitely wrong and fails to give us any reason to agree with that point. Ellie is emotionally destroyed by the acts of evil she commits. Abby revels in the pain she inflicts and seems to enjoy it. It is because of this lack of empathy from Abby that I could not as hard as I tried enjoy playing as her. I thought somewhere along my travels as Abby I would begin to sympathize with her. But as time progress you realize how shallow and despicable a character she truly is. Abby never takes responsibility for the river of blade she leaves in the wake of her selfish revenge quest. The game at this point would sit a 7/10 for me. But the final act in Santa Barbara is a great example of a game overstaying its welcome. Ellie gives up an idyllic life for one last shot of revenge. The product of this being that Ellie's relationship with Dina may never be the same and she can no longer play guitar. A hobby that is one of the last things Ellie had shared with Joel. This game is remarkably cruel to characters we have come to love. If you loved the first games characters and story do not play this game.

Not only does it live up to its predecessor, but it succeededs far beyond expectations. If you're on the fence about playing this game because of mixed reviews, just play it yourself. It's a coming of age and revenge story. You play multiple characters on multiple timelines leading up to the reason Ellie is out for vengeance. You deal with the repercussions of Joel's actions, who I dont think most people realize set all this in motion and could be seen as the bad guy. If you enjoyed the first one, you'll love this. Don't listen to just one youtube review and jump on the hate bandwagon. Dont read the leaks, assume things and jump on the hate bandwagon. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People complaining about Joel dying gotta know this isn't his game, neither was it intended to be. In my opinion, killing off Joel at the start just made the game so much more interesting and had me hooked to it to know what happens further.

The ending is something I can see why people are upset about and that is really subjective. Being a mature person, Ellie made the right choice but her one FEAR of being alone forever came true when even Dina left her. Most negative reviews focus on story but I felt attached to most characters, even Abby's 'side' of characters, albeit not as much ofcourse because they weren't there in Part 1 as much.

ISSUES: But this game does have some issues. First, I didn't like the character design of Abby. I don't think she had to be that muscular to be shown strong. Secondly, WHY doesn't she have a combat knife while Ellie has switchblade? Why do I need to find shivs to kill clickers with Abby who comes from a more 'militaristic' faction of those shown.

Next, I do have a BIG PROBLEM with the story telling. I wish Naughty Dog had narrated the story more parallel to both characters instead of having one person's story play through. Why? Because there was no suspense about Ellie leaving Owen and Mel alive. I knew they were dead so even when Abby's side of the story was playing out, I wasn't too attached to them since I knew they would die.

Gameplay wise, I see they took some points from Days Gone where they talk about the infected traveling as hordes and handful stragglers left behind plus the memories/reminiscence of Ellie/Abby's past every now and then. I don't see much of an issue with gameplay because LOU series isn't really that big on gameplay. Some encounters were boring but there were also a lot of adrenaline pumping encounters that got me excited and wanting for more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m starting by saying I waited until I finished this game to review. When I finished, I was apart of the 16.2% that have at least started the game and played it to the end. Here’s what i have to say.

The game has been one of the best games I’ve played in my life. As a fan of the first game I understand why Joel’s death is a outrage to some fans. When you give us a game that we play as the character and feel a complete badass to see him hurt and screaming it hurts it really does. However, that does not mean the game has “bad writing” I can say I didn’t agree with some of the decisions the team made but they did a fantastic job on this game especially with all the hurdles it had to jump. Leaks, the leaks is what ruined the “user score” for this game. That's not their fault, but even if you “seen/read the leaks” you won’t know what's true until you play it all the way through. Also not having multiplayer at launch is another reason why it has bad reviews and that's not fair, they never said they ditched it completely. I assume on the ps5 version it will have a dlc or multiplayer.

Ellie has to make tough choices along the way of her trip and if you play the game how she said she would, I don’t see how the people reviewing this game can say “its too violent, or the dogs omg stop making me kill the fluffy babies that are trying to eat my face off

This a Quality game, the story may not be as good or creative as the first, but there is still a lot of passion in the story telling and overall pacing. Hey guys maybe think about WHY Abby killed Joel, I loved Joel as much as all of you but to say Abby is a **** character is a bit dumb. Ellie and Abby both go through tough scenarios and it makes for a story that heavily thrives on the events of the original, Also the gameplay is a HUGE upgrade from the first game's gameplay, and the graphics look pretty damn good too, I respect your decision to not like this game, the story was very subjective and more people hated it then they liked it. I liked it but I feel Naughty Dog should've thought things out a tad bit more to appeal to more people. Thanks for Listening

JOEL dying is acceptable, the way he died was not. 20 years of living experience during the zombie apocalypse is not going to be erased by 4 years of living peacefully... Instead of getting wiser, Joel became dumber. Joel should know that he is likely a wanted man, and so does his brother Tommy... Giving out their REAL names to strangers they just met was absolutely dumb on their part which was uncharacteristic of Zombie Apocalypse Veterans. For a game that boasts of realism of the zombie apocalypse that sure hell was unrealistic. Joel was a beloved character, it is only proper to at the very least give him a proper and realistic death that still keeps his character.

Also, before release... ND sold us Ellie and Joel! Not that ABBY person.

It's a shame many people choose to dislike it because its not what they expected. Nevertheless, this game is a marvel in video game history. The story explores something very different than it's predecessor, and shows the more gritty reality of a postapocalyptic world. The gameplay is much more diverse and refined than the first, and every aspect that was loved in the first has been improved. Combat is especially amazing, where every situation can be approached entirely differently. Environments feel more full and alive, as if people actually inhabited it before everything turned apocalyptic. Graphics are flawless and there were several moments where I questioned whether it was real time rendering or real life. The soundtrack is just as daunting and saddening as the first one, with tunes that fill me with both nostalgia and sadness. The performances by each actor is Oscar worthy and deserves many praises. Ultimately this game is flawless, despite what people criticize it for. The story is compelling and every choice has weight that left me on the edge of my seat. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay: pretty much like the first one. The shooting is nice, but the levels are too big in my opinion.

Graphics: Amazing for a current gen game, frame rate was sometimes a bit low

    Story:
That's where the problem is. The story is incredibly stupid and at some points tries way to hard to make you like/dislike a character. It's a standard revenge plot, but after killing dozens and dozens of people, losing her father figure, a good friend and almost her girlfriend, Ellie suddenly decides she doesn't like killing anymore and just lets Abby go.
I can't believe some people seem to fall far the obvious manipulation to like Abby, because we are forced to play her for half the game. She tortured and killed Joel and forced Ellie to watch, while visibly taking pleasure out of the situation.
The game goes to comical lengths to paint her in a good and Ellie in a bad light, it forces you to kill multiple dogs with Ellie, while Abbie has to pet them.
Also the pacing of the game is terrible, it builds up half the game to the climax and then just goes to 0 again lo show Abbies backstory, which I absolutely had no interest in. You are clearly supposed to feel bad for her and her father, but he tried to murder a 14 year old girl while she was unconscious and she is a murderer. All that flashback does is to show that Joel absolutely made the right decision in the end of TLOU 1.

All in all there are 4 fun things in the game:
-Letting Abby die every time you play with her
    -Petting dogs
    -Playing guitar
    -The museum flashback

The rest is mediocre at best. If you really like the gameplay of TLOU1, pick this game up for 10$ or less when it goes on sale, otherwise, don't waste your money and time on this.

I liken this game to the 'torture-porn' episode of The Walking Dead where they killed Abraham and then they killed Glenn. Shock value and character deaths not because they make sense to the plot and overall story arc but because someone wants to shock and titilate.

If all this game can do is say "Look how woke we are" then it isn't much of a game. You might as well go back and play the first one over since they didn't change anything else. Maybe Naughty Dog should go sit down and talk to Square Enix for lessons on how to innovate with one of your most successful and beloved franchises. If you aren't willing to do that, maybe then just stick with Crash Bandicoot titles

If your central premise in a game is to show me the futility of violence and revenge then don't make a game that 1) glorifies violence like some sick snuff movie and 2) force the player down a story path where I as the player have no agency over what happens but just partake in a 20+ hour linear quick time event. The second point is the most grievous. It shows both a lack of skill and laziness in creating a game that both wants you to experience a story or moral, but does so by not giving me the chance to make those decisions myself as the player, thus I don't really care.

The story was uninspired and simple. The characters were unlikeable and unbelievable. The violence and the bizarre sex scene where over the top and out of place. Sometimes, not showing has more impact. Sometimes, less is more.

As a game, this sucks and is a waste of my money. This would have been better suited as a movie, as that is what this is. A 20+ hour long interactive movie where I have no agency over what happens, about characters I don't care about and a story that is uninspired.

The artful character development was felt through my playthrough in a way that I have never experienced before in my 15+ years of playing video games. Including TLoU Part 1. The development of the story is completely valid in my opinion, especially given the circumstances and setting. And honestly how privileged do you have to be to get angry or upset just because the author didn't write the story the way you wanted?

Para mi esta secuela jamas existió ni existirá, me quedaré solo con The Last Of Us.

It's not that I don't like this game. Graphics are gorgeous and gameplay is quite fine but story, pacing and character development is simply horrendus. The first game made us love it because of the graphics, the music, the way of playing, how we could enjoy going hand by hand with Joel and Ellie.... because that was the best point, the story, how we were able to love those amazing characters and their relationship..... this "part two" is the worst we can get. No matter what they tried to do with new graphics, music and everything else. THE STORY IS NOT WORTH. If the point that made the game one of the best we've ever played is such a trash, because I can't call it other way, then the game was FOR NOTHING, they sent to waste all the work and effort, including all the hopes we fans had since seven years ago. Maybe someone who didn't play the first part could do something with this game, but not people like me who had fallen in love whit the first one. I won't ever recommend this game, o the opposite, ignore it as if it never existed, that's what I can say about a game that in only two hours vanished my will to continue playing, a game I paid for just to ended up wanting to just throw away and forget I ever tried.

And a little comment to add, some people say we give bad record because of DIFFERENT SEXUAL ORIENTATION, well the answer is NO, that has nothing with hate to the subject. The first game made it clear, that Ellie is strong, that she knows how to fight, and how to love people too. In the DLC it was completely clear who she was, we LOVE her, and we love Joel too, we love the story of how they met, how they could trust each other and how they saved each other in so many ways.

The game was a master piece adding all. I can't tell in just this message how sad I am after this situation. I wish the second part was never announced so I could treasure the real game it was.

TLOU2 is a story-driven game. Not only is its story nihilistic, devoid of intrigue, and stocked with uncharismatic characters and banal writing (often, about their romantic lives), it's also a thinly veiled attempt to introduce inappropriate and bizarre beliefs into a medium that should be about enjoyable experiences, not about some developer's personal hangups.

This was not made to be enjoyed, it was made to sneer, to lecture, and to talk down to its audience. We should not encourage such things in the gaming industry and, sadly, they are becoming increasingly commonplace.

Whatever merit it has as a technical achievement are mooted by its off-putting writing and the seething condescension that drips from its screenplay. This isn't a game, it's a sneering statement. I give it two points for its craftsmanship which, while not at all groundbreaking, is competent and occasionally quite artistically satisfying.

The Last of Us is a milestone in the gaming industry. Its importance bothers many people. The unfair repercussion on the current title, Part II, proves it.

The game's aspects are some of the best seen in games so far, especially the graphics. The ambience, the scenarios and, mainly, the lighting of the game create an immersion that few games can provide.

The addition of large scenarios as Uncharted, fitted very well for TLOU. The Naughty Dog evolves its quality each game released. And it's easy to know that Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 are your best games. But the evolution is not only in the technical aspects.

Gameplay is another very positive point. The dodge was the best possible addition, allowing for variations in the huge battles. The stealth and enemies AI remain at the highest level.

Now, let's talk about the controversial plot, without spoilers.

It seems very childish to me so much hate over the plot. Naughty Dog was extremely brave and ambitious in the story. TLOU has always been a series of games that deal with reality in the most hostile way possible. It always brought great reflexive stories. The consequences of the actions of the characters were also always present in the game. It is not something new. Now, if that doesn't please you, that's not what makes the story bad.

The entire game plot is masterfully constructed. The 3 arcs, the plot twists and turns and the way the storyline makes us love characters we hated and hate characters we loved was rarely seen in games - that's what worked best on it, in my opinion. The ending is poetic, brutal, reflective and daring. As it had to be.

The series must go on in part 3. If one day it ever exists, I have no doubt that it will maintain the high quality of the 2 games released.

There is no doubt: even for the discomfort that the game causes in so many people, it is one of the best and greatest games of all time. GOTY so far. Masterpiece.

    In Brazilian Portuguse:

The Last of Us é um marco na industria dos games.

Me parece bem infantil tanto hate em cima do enredo.

Obra-prima.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
