This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let start with the positives. Props to the animation and art team for doing a great job enhancing the game to groundbreaking quality. The rope physics are amazing. Second, gameplay is a definite step-up from the last game but not by much. I love the little map you pull out. I also like that dogs can sniff you out and that enemies are more human. It's way more brutal, and the gore porn would've been justified if empathy was a central theme, but it isn't. Still, it's impressive that you can choose how you want to torture/kill your enemies. Music really had its moments during Joel and Ellie flashbacks. Otherwise, it's forgettable.
Now for bad: the plot and message of revenge wasn't bad; they just really should've executed it better. I don't mind if characters die; as long as they get deserving deaths that respect their legacy, it can be a great thing. But no, the dev had to spit on Joel (which he actually does in the game) by making him dumb for plot convenience, torturing him slow in front of his brother and daughter, and while she screams for it to stop, kill him, and let Ellie and Tommy live. This is within the first 2 hours of the game. I don't know what else could be as malicious to fans as that. And who cares about the cure anymore; let's make it a revenge story that isn't satisfying. Forgive the killer who slow tortured your dad in front of you. it's not that the revenge trope is bad. This game just fails at it. You're supposed to empathize with Abby but she's not worth the forgiveness. Oh you feel bad about two kids you left behind? Tell that to the thousands of orphans you've made from killing Scars. Tell that to a father you slowly tortured and killed in front of his daughter and brother. Oh you gave Ellie a chance and she wasted it? You had a chance and wasted it. At least Joel made it quick for your dad, a single shot to the head. You decide to take it so much further, even after he saves your life. She kills without thinking and gets her friends killed and/or traumatized. Not to mention, she had sex with her friend's husband who is pregnant with their child. Let's also not forget the game forces you to play this ungrateful brat for the last half and forces you to fight Ellie. I still wish she died but no, the game doesn't let you kill her and here's the best part: I feel just as much animosity toward Ellie. Wtf happened to her character from the first game? She hates violence; she's empathetic; she was the light in the darkness for me AND Joel. Now, she's a sociopathic monster. She's like "oh god, I tortured someone!" when first, you would've never done that and second, you literally are committing a genocide along the way. Does WOLF soldier #237's life matter? Y'know, the one you set on fire? Or maybe the one you shot the leg off of who screamed until they bled out and died? This violence is bad agenda just doesn't work in this world. If you really wanted me to feel bad for the people I'm killing, don't force me to kill them! It's not effective to be all like "oh you took all these lives. You're the monster," when the game didn't give me a choice.
The political agenda is also just so pandering. As a bisexual female myself, I love that Ellie is lesbian and it felt natural in the DLC. I just wish they made her and Dina that natural. Their chemistry is a one night stand. Wasn't Dina really flirty? Why would she suddenly want to settle? Because Ellie needs a gf for the plot. And not only is she unrelatable, but she's an idiot too. Don't have sex without protection. If you do, expect you'll get pregnant and don't come along on a journey. Now, she's a dead weight, and there's also some stupid message about "pregnant women can fight too" with Dina and Mel. There's a reason pregnant women aren't allowed to fight: it's so idiots like these two won't hurt their baby. They're trying to be strong and independent, but you're just being irresponsible. Let's also not forget the tragic story of all the male characters killed off for "plot convenience" AKA make the world women-only: Joel, Manny, Owen, but the worst was definitely Jesse. He knocked up Dina, and they kill him without any mourning. It just feels like "No strings attached now! You can be the father Ellie!" That really soured the farm part for me, although it was really cute. And I liked Jesse a lot. He had better sense than anybody and was merely a victim of a love triangle with two stupid people. The exact situation can be applied to Yara's death too. Congratz, you have a pet Lev, Abby. Your dream came true! As a bisexual female, the only LGBTQ+ representation I will take is Lev. All the other female leads are either killing machines and/or irresponsible biggots.

The only reason my rating is so high is because artists, animators, and gameplay designers obviously put their all into it. They shouldn't be discounted because the story was so god-awfully done. Good job guys, and writers, the LGBTQ+ community isn't that easy to suck up to.

The game tries to force the player to empathize with characters without any charisma, making you play with a character that is already hateful since the beginning of the game, not to mention the horrible, disappointing and meaningless end of the game.
Which was to be expected since a good part of the team that produced the first one, and even the director and one of the creators did not return to the sequel.
That all added up, plus the swindle of Nauthy Dog, who has been cheating the games with interviews, and fake trailers, in which they replaced Joel of the past, and Jesse for the Skin of Joel of the present, leading fans to believe that the character would accompany Ellie on her journey, which does not happen in the final version.
In summary: The Last of Us Part II is a disappointment, for those who were really fans of the first, and waited 7 years for a sequel to match.

After getting to about the middle of the story line and getting another perspective I started to understand the negativity in most reviews. And I sadly can't say that it was only for a little while that I was disappointed. I have since even stopped playing the game as it ruins the legacy of The Last of Us Part 1 (the stories i've heard). At this moment in time I will not be resuming my journey on there until some things have either been taken out or modified. In my honest opinion, a real shame as it really started of quite enjoyable, and unlike what some said I was even starting to build a connection to the characters.
Naughty Dog if you read this, please look back at what you've developed and consider some changes for the better as right now there's a few things that I consider game ruining/breaking.
Having said that, I still think there's a chance at redemption if some aspects are changed/tweaked (most notably Abby and the need to connect to her)

The Last of Us (2013) was one of the best games I have ever played in my life, hands down. It always felt like more of a movie than a game, because of how well written it was, with the initially reluctant partnership of Joel and Ellie, the ups and downs, the wise crack cheesy jokes, the environmental storytelling, and the father & daughter bond that they shared and developed throughout their journey. The progression and character development that took place was truly something special that cemented these two as one of gaming’s iconic duos.

The Last of Us II (2020) does not have the same deep emotional connection between any of its characters and it focuses more on preaching personal politics of its developers (and one absolutely out-of-touch consultant), rather than crafting an interesting, competent story with established characters. What you end up with is simplified, petty, revenge plot, that does not break new ground or take any risks.

I’ll get the good stuff out of the way first. Naughty Dog is incredible when it comes to crafting atmospheric games with excellent audio, the wilderness of Jackson, and the streets of Seattle are an absolute master craft in environmental design and graphical quality, not unlike the first game, but certainly enhanced to a stunning level. I also have no complaints with Gustavo and his competence with crafting an excellent soundtrack that fits the dreary, post-apocalyptic setting.

Where do I begin with the bad? There is about 15 hours of walking around with fluffy dialogue thrown in while you explore an empty landscape to find a few extra crafting materials, where you end up in a gunfight or infected encounter that you will try and stealth your way through, but ocassionally fail so that a cutscene or set piece can play out. Rinse and repeat.

This game does nothing new, it has identical gameplay mechanics to the first game (with a few Uncharted mechanics thrown in) which, while that may not seem like a bad thing, makes the game rely heavily on its narrative to differentiate its experience from its beloved predecessor. The problem is, its narrative and character development are subpar at best, and downright awful at worst.

The story tries to make you take it seriously, but after a couple hours of gameplay, you realize that this game has forced you into a standard and contrived revenge plot that you have seen 1000 times before. The back half of the game has you playing as Abby, who regardless of what she has gone through, I have zero attachment or sympathy for, and again, only to jump back to Ellie, who I am now starting to dislike? Who thought this plot was a good idea seriously?

Anita clearly came in and made sure that all the diversity checkboxes were hit, white men are incompetent, all the females have no physically attractive characteristics, and to mention bigotry and fascism wherever possible. Though I’m sure Neil had most of this setup already. You pile this crap on top of the way employees were treated, Sony’s censorship of Youtubers who discussed leaks, and add in an incoherent, generic story… you realize that there’s not much here that you haven’t seen or heard (because the leaks were accurate) before.

All of this, culminating in an underwhelming ending that is an absolute slap in the face to everyone who played and loved the first game. Last of Us (2013) DID NOT NEED A SEQUEL. It is an absolute step down from the first game, and gets a 4/10 from me. This is game is an outright travesty, and I'm sure it'll win awards and accolades because of the sales, progressive demeanour, and paid off critics, but you would be a fool to believe that this is anything but another corporate cash grab on an established IP. This is the gaming industry now.

Visually, it's a technical marvel and the artists and engineers should be very proud of their work.

Creatively, it's shallow, and viscerally cruel to anyone who went through and loved the first game. The artists and engineers should be angry their work was wasted on Neil's abject failure of a story. I know a long, detailed review would lend weight or credence to my opinions, but

After 24 hours of all this game has to offer, I couldn't bring myself to play the 2 or so hours I needed to finish. Put simply, it was not an experience I enjoyed. There were pieces of a game I would've liked scattered within the mess of the painstakingly rendered brutality, but those scenes accounted for 2 hours out of the 24 at the absolute most.

The game's problem isn't "SJW propaganda" or anything like that. It has progressive themes, but it's not as in your face about it as many would have you believe. Do I care about the game's progressive choices when I don't enjoy it? No.

The game is the most realistically rendered on the PS4. The amount of detail put into making the environment and characters as visually realized as they are should be commended. Does this save me from how depressing the game is to play? No, but it's a major reason why I could put up with it for so long. Unfortunately, the level of detail was also part of what made it so depressing. Any non-zombie deaths in this game are hard to take part of without completely shutting off your empathy.

There's a similar argument to be made for the sound. It's wonderful in terms of the score and the sounds of all the weapons, but if a non-zombie dies, the game's audio is a huge part of what makes murder so brutal.

The gameplay is similar mechanically to the first game, but the levels are more expansive and the AI are somewhat coordinated. Usually the agency in how you tackle a level would be great, but I could never skip the fights thanks to the confusing, labyrinthian layout of each one.

The story is downright weird. There are times where it's great, but there are more times where the story is predicated on hard-to-believe coincidence or barely existant to begin with. Given how airtight the first game was, I have no clue how this happened.

If Neil Druckmann doesn't want to use the word "fun", fine. But there were too few points where I felt immersed enough to appreciate it, much less have fun. I could play the final parts of the first Last of Us because I was invested in the story. I could understand the character even when I didn't agree with them AND THANKS TO how invested I was, I could see it through. That second part is obviously important somehow, because I could play through what was a way more catastrophic choice in the first game, while in this game the stakes are drastically lower and I've had to put it down for good. The accessibility options are great, though. That's something that's great, and I hope more games do that.

I wish I liked this game. If you think you will, don't let me stop you. But whatever your stance, take your time to consider those with the opposing views. No one's an enemy of anyone here. We just wanna play games, and I think we all forget that sometimes.

Honestly I think if ND wanted to tell a story about vengeance they should have made Abby the main character from the get go and make her hate/kill someone else(Not Joel and Ellie) it wouldn’t have been that hard change it, Make it an anthology series, rather than use Ellie and Joel as Marketing just to destroy thier story

The story was horribly cliched, none of the context made any sense at all. You kill almost 30 people on your way to get to Abby and then let her go. Dialogues were amateur at best. The ending was non sensical, the story just pretended to be deep and edgy. The pacing is unbearably slow so much so that it is actually boring at times and frustrating. No improvements at all in the gameplay from the first part. Adding a jump button is not an improvement in my opinion. Overall not recommended.

I didn't really want to write a review, but I don't want people to think that my review is part of any "review bombing" as this is my genuine and personal opinion of this game after having to sit through over 20 hours of it.

it's a horrible sequel that completely destroys the characters and all the build-up from the first game. It doesn't matter how good the graphics, gameplay, music and all the other technical aspects are, when the story is so unbelievable, unimmersive and riddled with inconsistencies and plot holes. A wise person once said that a good story can save bad art, but good art can't save a bad story. And that should really be the slogan for TLOU2.

It's a Naughty Dog game, and although 70% of its staff has left including the incredibly talented Amy Hennig and Bruce Straley, you can pretty much expect it to LOOK like a masterpiece. And it does. However, take any 10 minute clip from any part of the game and I'll show you 2 plot holes, 4 inconsistencies and overall just lazy and sloppy writing.

Nearly every single piece of dialogue made me think "well, that's dumb" and nearly every action sequence was riddled with plot armor and just straight up stupidity. For instance when Ellie and another person drives their car into the water and instead of just swimming right out through the gaping hole where her car door used to be, it was ripped off earlier, they struggle to get through the driver's side window. What the hell? How was this not pointed out by ANYONE? There are so many stupid details and it just completely breaks any sort of credibility or depth this game has, if it even has any.

I praised the first game so much that people started getting sick of me talking about it. The first game made me interested in art and writing, it was an experience I'll never forget. Like when you watch your favorite movie, listen to your favorite song or read your favorite book. it leaves a mark. That game affected me in a way that very few other media has ever done. Which is why this sequel was such a punch in the gut, and it didn't help that we waited 7 years for it.

And I don't care that there are gay or trans characters in the game. I really couldn't give any less sh*ts. Though, as a bi woman who advocate for trans rights, I can clearly see that most of it is being used as a shield so people will look like bigots once they criticize anything about the game. I also find it very suspicious how even Neil Druckmann said that some of the game testers said they hated the game and that he was prepared for people hating it, and then nearly EVERY "professional" game critic out there gave it a 10/10, which is an INSULT to any video game ever who truly lived up to that score and earned it. It is NOT a 10/10, it is NOT a 0/10. I'd love to give the development team a completely different score; the people who made the animations, the sound, music, the graphics, the combat, the accessibility system - everything was completely awesome, an easy 9-10/10.

But sadly, I don't play video games just for the graphics or the sound. Some of the best games ever created were amazing because of its incredible story, characters, deep lore, world design etc... The graphics and sound are just a wonderful bonus, but you cannot base your entire game upon it. Therefore, because it is a story driven game, I'm going to let the awful story overshadow everything I liked about the technical aspects of the game and give it a 4/10 overall. If it was a standalone with completely new characters whom I hadn't previously been so invested in and cared for so much, maybe I'd go up to a 5 or 6/10, but this is the highly anticipated sequel of one of the most beloved video games in history, which is why the fall is so much longer and harder.

I would not advise ANYONE to pay for this game, at least not at full price. Watch it on Youtube, you'll be saving yourself a lot of money, because it's just not worth it.

I'm truly saddened and disappointed by this and I hope we can see better from the video game industry in the future. Thanks and sorry for any bad English.

The writers tries hard wanting you to relate to a story that they butchered themselves. If done properly this would have been a master piece even with all the main plot and ideology remaining the same but unfortunately we got a game with all the aspects and key components of a master piece assembled together by monkeys.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I did not enjoy this game, and the first is one of my favorite games. I don't want to be one of these review trolls (clearly most of these negative reviews are fake), but did want to make it known that this game is a colossal disappointment. Everyone here is saying how they liked the graphics and voice acting but didn't like the story, which I agree with. But there are some other things that I really do not like:

    - The gameplay itself is boring and monotonous. Although the combat, crafting, stealth etc. are almost exactly the same as the first game, I think the pacing is bad here. The gameplay sections are really long (especially Seattle in the beginning), where getting from point A to B (whether it's traversal, exploration, clicker or combat encounters) takes a really long time. I found the pacing to be perfect in the first game. Usually a longer game is better, but I don't think that really worked here

    - On plot, I really do not like how you play in a flashback for almost the entire second half of the game. I have bias because I am not a huge fan of using flashbacks in fiction in general, but really, half of the game?!? It would be one thing if Abby's story was compelling and the gameplay was fun, but it wasn't. I think it was more just Druckmann's way of trying to have you sympathize with Abby and what she has been through so that you feel bad.

I do think that the Abby hate has gone too far, she did spare Ellie twice. But, I also do not think that it is possible to sympathize with a person who slowly beats someone to death with a golf club.

So yeah, I think this game sucks, even standalone, and if you compare to the first game, real bad. Way more boring and monotonous gameplay, and a story that tries to be edgy and revolutionary in games, but really is a waste of time. Most disappointing game of 2020.

The story, plotting, its characters have a lot of objective flaws and is really bad. The irrational decision-making by the characters is comical, and the story not being logically consistent with its characters and their personalities from the first game is insulting to fans. Also, the characters are thoroughly unlikable. The ending is completely pointless and fails to provide a satisfying payoff for all the stuff that came before. On a personal note, I don't like how incredibly violent the game is and how evil and stupid the vast majority of the characters are, and how you're forced to actually take control and carry it all out without any kind of agency to make a more positive and hopeful future for yourself and the world's characters. Lastly, I don't know what kind of moral this game is trying to impart on the player and I don't know who needs to hear that message. It isn't profound like the writers think it is - it's the moral of a story that would come out of an episode of Sesame Street.

PS: I am a lesbian woman, so I am not a trans-phobic or gay bigot, and I am not a virgin. If you think this because you simply disagree with my opinion about this game, then grow the hell up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought the gameplay was pretty good but the story not so much. The game is basically about abby and not ellie. I feel neil had a different story planned but allowed a Hollywood writer (Halley Gross) come in a muck it all up and change everything! I believe the story was originally going to be tommy that died and not joel. I say this because in the trailer joel meets up with ellie not Jesse and it seems joel and ellie would of went after Tommy's killers and that, in my opinion, would have been a better story. The writing isn't like Neil's writing in this game and it was all over the place which isn't how neil writes at all. Seems awful funny that neil has always written great storys and now all of a sudden halley was involved in writing the story and its complete garbage. I feel neil has sold his soul to Hollywood and now his writing will be generic trash because he won't have the freedom to do what he wants and will have to listen to corporate Hollywood. I hope these bad scores (mostly from the writing) wakes neil up and allows him to get back to what he does best! If there is a third one, please dont screw it up as well! Expand

I understand most of the critics who reviewed this game, they probably don't have to pay the money to get the game, in this case, I think my review is less biased because at least I paid for this game. What makes TLOU special? The story. There are many zombie games, killing games, beautiful games, who bother killing zombies in TLOU?

What makes TLOU special? The story. There are many zombie games, killing games, beautiful games, who bother killing zombies in TLOU? It's because of the story, so when the story fails, the games fails.

I think the game director changed his decision over the main story many times during the developing course, and eventually he did not know what he really want or to deliver (bad lesson to give a game director too much power in a studio), I am totally disconnected with the characters, I was forced to play and to connect with characters I don't give a F**K with, the story is not natural, not logical, just nonsense.

The story telling structure is horrible, rigid, forced and senseless.

The little trying to make an open world exploration experience feels out of date.

The game control feels clumsy, the UI design... It sucks when you want to swap your weapon during a fight.

    Overall I give a 4/10.

I will start off with the good aspects of The Last Of Us 2, the graphics look really nice overall. There are moments where a bit less detail was put into them (Like snow falling off trees) but as far as games go, the graphics are solid.
The reason i have given this game such a low score is as follows: (Warning Spoilers ahead)

I was devastated that Joel was killed off, i was not only upset in the badly scripted way in which he was killed but how early in the game it happened. It's like Joel's character was such a different person from the first game. Of course humans change, but they really REALLY changed his character. He went from someone who was cautious and savvy to someone who blindly follows into dangerous situations.

As the game played out i was happy to see a gay person was being given some love on screen. Its nice to see my people in games, but the more i played, the more it became clear this wasn't Story first, sexuality second, it was full-blown IN YOUR FACE GAYNESS, the type i smell a mile away, the type that has an agenda behind it. I felt sick how badly this will set us back in the real world.

I feel the game has a totally different team than the original classic game and i was correct. I feel the old team were booted out, in favour of a more inclusive team, (Not better.....not even as good, just inclusive) which in layman's terms means people given a job based on their pronouns rather than skills. It means that us gamers suffer in the long run as you find stories suffer for it, and 9 times out of 10 have an agenda behind it.

Do they think they are helping us gay people? because they most certainly are not. Have they seen the backlash on here, twitter and youtube? This game has single-handedly set gay people back years and made thousands of people homophobic as it seems big companies are playing favourites to gay people over just being fair. How stupid can they be? This is not how you win people around on our struggle.
The last of us 2 plays every card it can to upset anyone who isn't gay. I was so upset seeing gay people having sex in a way that just seemed bent on inflaming the gamers that paid so much money to play this political nonsense.

I looked deeper tonight and found out that lead dev Neil Druckmann made the work environment hostile so that many of his team left. I feel this was a tactic to replace an excellent team with people he feels fit his politics. I went on to see Neil talking kindly about a well known far-left activist and anti-men YouTuber who has made it her goal to make sure games are diluted down, where everyone is gender-neutral and plain looking. Where men are feminine and women are always empowered, especially gay people and people of colour.

I would not be so harsh on this if it wasn't for the fact that these far-left activists always infiltrate already establish games and force identity politics into them like a plague. They would not have the guts to make a game from scratch as no one would buy it, but with an established game the fans are guaranteed to purchase it by the millions no matter what.

Shame on Neil Druckmann for treating the fans this way.
Shame on Neil Druckmann for treating gay people are pawns in his agenda.
Shame on Neil Druckmann for trying to silence people speaking out about his political game.

and shame on everyone complicit in making this game, I am disgusted in you. You do not represent me as a gay person. You have an agenda and i want nothing to do with it.
Your game is a total mess, the story is weak and has ruined, totally ruined such a beautiful first game. But of course none of you would understand that as you didn't make it.
I rate this game 4 out of 10. Graphics and sound are nice. The story and gameplay are terrible.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game feels like ND were done telling the story of Joel and Ellie, but realised they needed to put them in the game to actually sell it. Ellie's story feels like they wrote Abby's story first and then copied it to Ellie. There are so many similarities, up to a love triangle involving a pregnant woman. I imagine ND were intending for Ellie and Abby to mirror each other, but in the end it feels too contrived to work.
At the same time, the game fails to make Abby or her crew even remotely as compelling as Joel, Ellie, Tess and Bill were in the first game. Hell even the returning characters barely feel like themselves, except for a few scenes. The only new character who feels like a real person is Lev, and he shows up so late in the game, there's barely enough time left to spend with him.
The game also has a huge problem with putting the dramatic payoff of storylines before the setup of those payoffs. If it's been 4 hours since I killed a named character so generic I've forgotten their name, I am not going to be moved by knowing they visited a seal with Abby at some point. Same with Joel's death. Everyone and their mother predicted he would die, but the way they did it just looks like shock value writing for the sake of saying it was 'unexpected.'
There are plenty of stories where the main character dies and people still love the story, hell just recently we had RDR2 where the main character dies AND you play as another character for an extended period of time, but there wasn't a huge outcry of disappointment as there is now. Pretending people just didn't want Joel to die is absurd, they just thought it would be done better. (Maybe have him get bitten and have Ellie again be in a position where she has to watch someone she loves slowly lose their mind in front of her while she is left behind.)

This game's story fails for me because TLOU is Joel and Ellie's story, this story could just as well have featured new characters in a new setting all together, nothing truly ties it to TLOU. And besides that, the story itself feels convoluted and bloated. Like I said, it feels like ND wanted to tell Abby's story, but realised that no one would buy it, so they forced Druckman to put Ellie and Joel in the story.

The few redeeming areas of the game are aspects I'd always expect to be excellent when so much time and money is poured into a product: environments, music, acting. It's all wonderful, but I never played TLOU for just those things, and there are enough games where those elements are great as well as the story.
The gameplay just has some improvements over the first game, but by the time you're crossing the bridge with Abby and Lev, you're so bored of doing the same stuff, it just doesn't even feel enjoyable anymore. Like the story, it repeats itself too often and kills any interest I had to begin with.

And a final observation, even if I enjoyed the gameplay enough to slog through this again, why for the love of games would I want to watch Ellie be put through this bleak hell again? In the first game we probably all felt protective of her, and in this game it's nothing but horror after horror. She gets a few happy moments before it's all snatched away again and it ends with her being left alone - the thing she fears most. And for what? So ND can tell a generic 'revenge is bad, cycle of violence' story? It's a message we've seen a million times, done much better than this, and it just isn't worth sacrificing everything that made TLOU a beloved game.

Also, none of the new relationships matter or last, but the relationship people loved (Joel and Ellie) is killed off within the first ~ 2 hours. He and Ellie also do not act like they did, they just got dumber and make all the mistakes they taught 'to us' not to make in those cases. And the only thing driving the plot forward is bad and illogical decision making. You're also supposed to like the villain who kills Joel because it is a transgender. That's all there is to it. the character has no redeeming features whatsoever, it is a jerk through and through. The visuals are stunning though, the OST is pretty damn good, but the gameplay is virtually the same as that from a 7 year old game and the story reads like fanfiction by a transgender teen. Which I don't mind them writing, and I don't mind them being happy with their identity, but it doesn't magically make a crappy story a good one.

You can think of it like this: If Abby was a straight man named Adam, the story would be just as dumb. How do you create a game which is visually excellent, has open world game play, crafting, riding on the coat tail legacy of a popular predecessor, with beloved characters, and turn it into a 4-5 out of 10 game; simple, give your audience the middle finger with an insultingly bad story line which seeks to subvert expectations for the sake of doing so, with no regard for enjoyment or satisfaction of your end user customer. The story takes a huge dump on the characters that were loved in the first game.

The previews of the game are misleading when compared to what was actually released, giving the impression that both main characters would feature prominently in the game only for one to be needlessly killed.

The only thing saving the game from a score under 4 is that the actual game play and visuals are pretty well done and high quality.

The ending is also a complete disappointment with perhaps the most unsatisfying end which I have seen in a long time. It makes me ask the question; what has happened to an industry that deliberately sets out to disappoint the player? They knew this would anger people and yet went the way they did anyway.

You can now dodge, jump and crawl. Very very poor story and treatment of Ellie and Joel. The character growth and story were the strongpoint of the first game but this time round;
    Ellie gets broken, develops PTSD and a twitch, loses everything;
Joel, who could smell an ambush in the first game, walks into an ambush, with no gun and tells everyone his name, dies a pointless death of plot contrivance.
Abby (and her freakish arms, who took ALL the steroids? Abby did, Abby took ALL the steroids in Cordyceps world) is an **** and a psychopath, kills her WLF friends and comrades for Lev/Lilly, someone she just met.
Tommy, who founded Jackson in a post apoplectic wilderness, gets emasculated; encounters Abby 3 times, gets 1.knocked out, 2. punched thru a barrier and 3.shot in the head. He ends up divorced with a limp and a twitch.
I connected with Owen, Abby's ex, who was ready to leave all the killing and his pregnant girlfriend behind but still wanted weird angry sex with Abby and her enormous arms. (She reminded me of an East German shot putter. One for the kids there)
Everyone else is killed, often brutally, except Abby, who Ellie should have but didn't. No development, no growth, no redemption, no questions, just violent death after death and no remorse. Two spoilt orphan girls with Daddy issues making dozens and dozens of other orphans. Mr Druckman, you're not as smart as you like to think you are. And as for revenge stories; Bladerunner, Red Dead Redemption, Conan the Barbarian, Carrie, the Illiad by Homer, Hamlet, The Count of Monte Cristo, Zorro, Oldboy, Fists of Death, Sin City, Kill Bill, The Gladiator, True Grit, The Princess Bride, Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, Metal Gear Solid 5, Dishonoured, Assassins Creed 2, Max Payne, Legacy of Cain, God of War (2005), Revenant, The Darkness, Death Wish (all of them, the clues in the title), John Wick 1, 2, and probably 3, Django Unchained, Unforgiven, Get Carter, Mad Max, Taken, Desperado, Gangs of New York, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Pale Rider (one of my favourites). How is this story a masterpiece? I felt empathy with all the wronged, none tried to cheaply manipulate my emotions to empathise with the killer and most had a clear resolution i.e. Roy clearly sees the value of life when he saves Deckard. It's all been done before, a lot better.

A história é simplesmente ridícula e o desfecho, Jesus, impossível gostar. Expand

    "Attention to detail"
    • To put the activated Molotov cocktail in the bag is strong!
    • The crossbow is stronger than the bow, but the bow kills with a single blow, the crossbow does not.
    • Use arrows from a corpse? You're kidding!
    • To craft the ammo? No problem!! To craft the arrows? What are you doing? (Abby)
    • I see arrows in the quiver of a dead NPC but I can't pick them up!
    • The invisible ally runs in the face of the enemy, all right.
    • The weapon does not jam or jam after water, moisture, dust, dirt! Perfectly!
    • There are no weapon parts in the car under the hood or in the trunk ? O_O
    • Feed your horses for a 3-day trip to Seattle? Much cooler to throw a ball to a dog!
    * Once activated, the generator runs forever
    • Special forces against knives!
    • You never will never fit through a huge gap that any human being could fit through!
    • Of course, not one car in a hundred has a drop of gas, and I have to go to a basement full of monsters!
    • Of course, my backpack won't hold more than two rounds of pistol ammo! But the flamethrower will fit perfectly!
    • Crawling through the ventilation system? It will break and you will fall-always.
    • Explore - > Shoot - > Talk, and that's it.
    • Containers are the engine of gameplay! Have you played portal games? What are you complaining about?
    • Team-killing with your partner in agreement? Huh? Are you in call of duty?
    • Using your own Pets by special forces (abby) - why?!
    • Living in a strict religious family, where disobedience can be punished without thinking, begins to shake the rights, because she is a boy? Are you serious? at 10 years old? Do you have children? (how dare I, right?)
    • The sect lives on an island, why don't we control the coast to isolate them from the mainland? What for? we can just walk through the woods and die from their traps!
    • What is the essence of the sect (scars)? Maybe I should have made another third of the game about them? We are no longer interested, so why not learn their difficult fate?
    • Why are the problems of fungal people not solved? I want to know what gender they identify with!
    • Judging by the first scenes for Abby, she is very cool to her father. However, I spent a lot of time in training and fighting. Conclusion - the present of its environment it is the soldiers. However, when a sniper kills her friend in front of her, she just throws him into the water! (special forces can't swim what are you doing)Where was the Golf club?
    • The commander of the military special forces, releases a whole squad (15 people) in the winter, in an unknown territory with a large uncontrolled city, to kill the offender of ten years ago at one of the soldiers of the squad. They also went to kill every scar that killed the father/mother of any soldier? What happens to the game logic?
    • Joel from one standing on the road robber knows how to understand that this is an ambush, but the phrase "I have a lot of friends here" near the places of your patrol, where no one should be, does not cause any questions (with its kind of special forces especially)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ooohhh boy... I'll start with the positives by saying that the game is visually stunning, sounds great, is rock solid mechanically, and has a bevy of difficulty & quality of life options that make the game easily accessible to practically everyone. However... the story is an absolute **** I can forgive killing Joel, I don't like it obviously, but it gives the game a strong (if somewhat overused & predictable) narrative drive. But the constant jumping back and forth between the present & the events that happened after the end of the first game kill any semblance of a consistent pace. Putting you in the shoes of Joel's killer was an interesting move, but hurt the drive to play the game (especially since they did it at roughly the halfway point of the game, when you knew who & what she was - starting the game with her, culminating in Joel's death, would've been a better move, imo [and, yes, I know - that would've necessitated a flashback at the end of Abby's portion of the game]). The biggest offense however, is the fact that this is ultimately a story of revenge... that doesn't end with either party dying. Instead we get Ellie sacrificing EVERYTHING for revenge, but when the critical moment comes - she doesn't take it. Nor does Abby kill her. Making the game's narrative not just poorly executed, but hollow as well. Sadly the game is a grievous disappointment, not in spite of its mechanical & visual glory, but because of it. It's such a glaring difference in quality between the technological aspects of the game & the narrative, that the narrative's shortcomings become impossible to ignore. Expand

The ending is also built up but with no pay off, it's essentially as if Joel gave Ellie back to Marlene after he killed hundreds of Fireflies to get to her. This game looks, sounds, and feels amazing but the gameplay is the same as the last game with a fresh coat of paint, all we have are the jump button and dodging, nothing much has changed besides that. After playing this all the way through in a matter of days I can honestly say that I was and still am in the camp of people that believed that Ellie and Joel's story should have ended with the first game. In the end it feels like their story wasn't the one they wanted to be told in the first place making them feel tacked on and not very essential to what was going on through out most of it. A disturbingly poor use and lack of respect or understanding of their own characters. Ninety percent of this game feels like painfully long padding or filler where you get dumped into combat scenario into combat scenario with no breaks. The gameplay itself is nice when used well or in small doses but with so much else going against it, it really forces you to notice how bland and simple the gameplay really is when not backed up with compelling reasons to put up with it. Combat and exploration are almost 1 for 1 with the original with the smallest changes made to traversal that never feels like a strong enough evolution to warrant praise. You've climbed ropes in other games, climbed up small ledges in other games and crawled through grass in other games. Not game exactly compelling game changers.
I would strongly recommend waiting for this to go on sale before purchasing it for yourself. It is not the worst thing on planet earth like many review bombers would have you believe, and it is definitely not a masterpiece like the other half would defensively tell you. In the end it is an OK game that's a nice thirty hour time waster where the dissonance between character and player is so strong that, to borrow an analogy, it's like watching a puppet show and never being able to enjoy the puppets because you are too busy looking at the puppet master in his unsuccessful attempts to compel your imagination or say anything of actual depth or interest.

And the game spends a lot of time on that narrative, which for me was a big drag. Gameplay was far less interesting than Part 1. All in all, a miss for me. But probably depends if you're into the story.

Seven years and I'm not sure what to say. The game play and graphics are top tier. The animations feel next gen on a current gen console. AI is not as good as I was expecting. There are sections of a "walking simulator" that feel padded but it doesn't distract from the core experience.

Why a score 4? The story is something I never imagined. Characters make dumb decisions and there

Why a score 4? The story is something I never imagined. Characters make dumb decisions and there are my instances that "chance" (starting in the second hour) move the story along. I didn't want to keep playing because the cautious optimism of the first game is gone. The dialogue and overall plot of revenge is very cliche and the depth I was expecting never happened. Soooo much is based on perceived "shock" value.

The ending almost makes the entire game pointless. "UGH" sums up the narrative experience which in a single player game really influences how a game is rated in totality. My goodness!

As a story driven game it fails and it is sad. I won't even talk about Joel, it is ok to do what you want with a character but it could have been done in a better and more respectful way, it was just cheap shock and lazy writting (best example to compare with is SWTLJ) Unfortunatelly this game has entered the club of soulless entertainment media like the new Star Wars Trilogy, Marvel Movies, Season 8 of GOT, HBO Watchmen etc. What can I say it is just a game, even if we are disappointed there is no reason to linger, we should enjoy life more and be more careful when listening when someone tells us what to like or to buy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished TLOU2 can honestly say that it fits everything I expected it to be.

Naughty Dog brings out a beautiful world with a disheveled storyline that feels ultimately rushed and put there because the only thing they wanted to do was "SUBVERT EXPECTATIONS" not make a good game.

You find yourself not giving a damn at all about characters or plots revolving around anyone because the pacing of the game is god awful.

The game heavily favors Abby with weapons and combat while Ellie just gets pushed to the wayside.

The game feels like a fever dream because of how half baked the writing is in parts and how repetitive the game feels. The game clearly is trying to force you to like Abby because "SHE PETS DOGS, SHE GETS GOOD GUNS, SHE HAS FRIENDS"

Where Ellie gets **** weapons, has to kill dogs, and she loses literally everyone along the way in terribly told ways.

Not to mention for whatever reason Abby and Ellie get so much plot armor that not even god could kill them.

The game loooks great, has amazing sound & music design & the animations are top notch
But to keep it short all the characters from the previous game are basically not the same people they were before, & that's fine but you have to write it in a way to make it make sense. Especially the ending, it was out of left field & literally made NO SENSE. so you're just left frustrated & cheated.

I genuinely don't think the series will ever recover from this, atleast not for the original fan base, Those people who bought the original game & played that game for the story. You will be very upset & disappointed if you play this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge TLOU fan, after all this time, after a masterpiece, what is left is bitterness, sadness and disappointment.

Just to be clear the graphics and sound are amazing, the gameplay is good too, even so that its not that different from TLOU 1 (crafting, etc are basically the same).

But what really made me love TLOU was the story, the character development you see between joel and ellie, basically becoming father and daughter, how they start from strangers to become really attached and depending on each other, to the point that they would do anything for each other.

But its enough of talking about a masterpiece, so lets talk about TLOU part 2.
They tremendously failing on making/delivering a product that people actually wanted, and man... what a mess.

    Ill try to be short:

So, we got to know a girl named Dina that I really don't have any interest in, she kissed ellie and she was dating Jesse but broke up a week before, and they loved each other so much that it seems they don't care about it anymore??? huuum okay, then they give us like a sex scene too between ellie and dina, and Jesse finds them and its all ok for him, like "I didn't even love her before".

Now, one of the most **** up thing in the story, our beloved joel that is really smart seems dumb now... so image if you kill hundreds of guys, you basically destroy the fireflies, you save an unknown person that is near your city(kinda weird) and she leads you to her friends, all armed in a room... would you tell your real name to them?? well, guess what, our now dummy Joel did! guess what happens? gets killed!.

To be honest, I was expecting Joel death in this game, but not like this, for what sake? the sake of shock? well, I have to give them credit at that, i was shocked.
But if you have the balls to do this, basically a cruel/idiotic plot death you have to make it up right?
well the return is a slap in your face.

The death of Joel could be, and deserved to be better than this.

After that Ellie goes on a rampage to get revenge on abby that killed Joel, she kills and kills and kills... then we get some playable flashbacks with joel and ellie, they were nice but not that good IMO.

Eventually you will know that abby had something with Owen, but now owen is with Mel, and Mel is pregnant, and later you see again abby doing sex with owen, and oh did I tell that Dina is also pregnant? Yeah! such a mess! wtf??? is this really TLOU??

Ok, so in the end you will have a background on Abby, and you will play a lot with her actually, so you can see that she is a good girl, good intentions, so you don't hate her for killing joel...

As I said, if Joel had a different death, and we knew a little more about Abby before, maybe, just maybe I would have some interest on that character. So they make you play with Abby, where she will find too a kid to protect like Joel, so simplistic and repetitive.
I really didn't like to play as Abby, I wish I had a skip option so I could skip to the ending, felt so pushy... Oh btw, how is she still alive with all the noise the makes walking??? jeez... oh, btw, amazing how ellie too doesn't care with the noise, she finds a guitar and starts playing like.... maybe there are clickers here?

So basically they put some non interesting characters as Abby, Dina, Jesse.... I couldn't care less About those Characters, at least not like this.

And well, after all this revenge story purpose, the pregnant girls, the sex, at the end Ellie lets Abby go. Yep, after all this messy story, after all the purpose is to get some revenge on Abby that killed Joel what you get is a slap in your face telling you that revenge is bad!

I understand the meaning, the circle or revenge wont end, revenge is bad, blablabla...
But its really unsatisfying, They really force you trying to like Abby, but with no success.
TLOU is an apocalyptic game, full of death, kill or get killed... doesn't really fit in the game... not that I don't understand the meaning or that Im a bad person, but felt really bad, unsatisfying story, unsatisfying ending.
poor Jesse that died in the end as nothing, irrelevant character right?

Imagine playing god of war and in the end kratos lets go zeus. yap. the same.

Well, as an fan of TLOU i feel really bad, I would like to rate it better, but I cant with this poor story.
I would recommend you to get the game only when its like 30$.

TL;DR: good graphics, good sound and gameplay, poor writing, poor characters, what leads to a bad story(that's where this game should shine). messy romantic/sex scenes, Forces you to like a character that you probably wont like. Get it when its on sale.

I avoided reading all the spoilers but really feel that the story itself was poorly organized and poorly executed. I feel that this would have been much better organization is you play as Abby up until the part where you venture into the theater. At that point, I would've done a flashback for Ellie where then you see why Abby is an important character and you seek your revenge on her. Then the game could have ended at the first visit to the farm and left it open to another full TLOU game to feature Santa Barbara. The SB party seemed unnecessary as it only shows that Ellie didn't forgive Joel for not letting her die, but it's done in such a poor manner in the game that I had zero emotional connection. The first LOU have such an emotional connection that I came in with high hopes. But between the organization and very well connections made, I felt almost nothing. Also, playing as the character who killed Joel made the second half of the game feel like a grind instead of an enjoyable play experience. Overall,

After years I've finally convinced myself to buy this game thanks the Black Friday offers on Amazon for 20€. I'm glad I haven't bought it before at a highest price 'cos I'd probably remained burned.

TLoU Part II is the game that I've always heard about by many people: a graphical and cinematic masterpiece with a recycled gameplay from the previous game, zero innovation and a poorly written story with weak characters and an almost nonsensical plot.

First thing to say is that this game is solid AF. In my playthrough of 30 hours I met 0 bugs, 0 glitches and no crashes at all. Never, no matter the situation, I had problems at all.

The graphic of this game is top notch. You'll remain stunned by the beauty of the world and the cure for every single detail. From the movement of the grass, the snow and how the warm blood of enemies melts it, the landscapes (both natural and artificials), the sunflares when you direct the camera against the sun ecc everything is absolutely gorgeus, a marvel for the eyes. It's obvious that the artists that worked on this game had a solid vision about the game's world and how to make it. The mix of "city-jungle" it's a clear prof of it. Of course this is the same for the characters, their faces, models ecc. Yes, this game looks really cool and you'll love to just spend time looking around and playing with the photo mode.

Gameplay wise... well, its TLoU. The gameplay is literally just copy-pasted from the previous game and while TLoU was a good game for its generation, TLoUII feels outdated. Same crafting system, same weapons improve system, same skills improve system, same stealth, same weapons... you got it. There are few additions like the possibility to dodge enemies' attacks which I personally really felt like useless. For puzzles, instead of ladders you're going to use ropes (puzzles are incredibly simple and will recquire at maximum 30 seconds to figure them out), and now you can full crouch and hide yourself in the high grass. Of course this is not Uncharted, we're not going around for ancient tombs trying to solve wierd puzzles to open doors and treasure rooms, but it really feels like that these puzzles are there just 'cos "there were in TLoU" and that's it. They're so simple and useless that you wonder why the hell they put them on the game at this point. If you're expecting more then this, you'll remain disappointed. Gunplay is simply HORRIBLE. It is imprecise, it is clunky, it's slow. Hell, I don't understand why someone who has passed YEARS to shot zombies and people can't aim "straight" and instead shake his hands like a drunk. Who thought this was a good idea? Now we have big areas (much bigger then TLoU) full of enemies and dealing with them is so frustrating. There are TOO MANY ENEMIES, play stealth is so hard that a certain point you just give up and decide to go rambo just to die 'cos enemies will kick your a** using the advantage of the number.

The story. Listen, I have no idea where all of this was going for. It's like that who wrote this started with an idea but then realized he didn't actually know how to concretize it. The story starts with this "revenge plot", but for how the things go at a certain point you don't know what is going on anymore. Characters are bad written, the plot just goes on for "convenience". While in TLoU you one had so many beloved characters here secondary characters are absolutely meaningless and you really don't care if they die or not. At the end of the game there is the greatest attempt to manipulate the audience I have ever seen in my entire life just in order to cover the mess that the story was so far. I really can't explain without spoilers why it is so bad. What can I say is that if you hope for a TLoU story level, you'll remain absolutely disappointed.

It is not a bad game, it takes many things that made the first great and adds many details that improve it, unfortunately the forced history, the motivation of the game is ruined with the end, a very forced history with holes that without taking into account the political corruption that ends up burying a franchise wanted by many very bad work.

    4) Good sound design.
^4 points for these great things about the game.

    That said....

As a story-driven game...this game is CRIMINALLY HORRENDOUS, for a few critical reasons:

    1) Gameplay is extremely dated, clunky, and not fun. Stealth is not fun, shooting is not fun, crafting is not fun. This would be forgivable in a story-driven game IF the STORY was good...but...
    2) The story...LOTS of problems with the story:
    A) Disorienting and fractured storytelling. The narrative jumps everywhere, never giving the player even a nanosecond to get their bearings
    B) INSANELY BAD PLOT HOLES. Let me explain. A good story is at times driven by an overarching script (plot-driven moments), and sometimes it is driven by the characters and their motivations (character-driven moments). Sometimes a story HAS to take a specific turn because a certain character MUST COMMIT to some action based on, well, their ESTABLISHED CHARACTER. Alan Moore famously didn't realize that Rorschach HAD to die at the end of Watchmen, because a man like Rorschach would "Never compromise. Never surrender." That is an amazing character-driven moment. Last of Us 2 does not seem to realize that BOTH plot-driven and character-driven moments are ESSENTIAL to a story.

Without spoilers, characters in this game CONSTANTLY make THE ABSOLUTE OPPOSITE DECISION OF WHAT THEIR ESTABLISHED CHARACTERS AND MOTIVATIONS ARE. It is amateurish writing. The goal of TLOU2's writer was clearly to shock and depress people - that goal in itself is actually fine. Good movies can be depressing and shocking...but if you sacrifice your storytelling ability to make it happen? That's just unprofessional. There are many jarring moments like this in the game that result in the player feeling frustrated and confused, because the characters don't make any internal sense. And if your characters don't make sense...then your story doesn't make sense. Sure, a mad and senseless character can be good (Batman's The Joker), but this isn't that kind of story. The decision-making of the characters in TLOU2 is absolutely baffling and nonsensical. Therefore, sadly, TLOU2's story is baffling and nonsensical.

This game will go down in history as The Last Jedi / Game of Thrones Final Season of video games. A new Rian Johnson is born.

It's really sad when a beloved franchise goes down in flames. I can see why people are very upset. Never forget that it is absolutely possible to tell a story YOU want to tell, while still keeping your fans happy. To do so takes professionalism, empathy, and skill...and the writer of TLOU2 did not seem to have those traits at the time of writing.

RIP Last of Us franchise. You were clubbed to death.

What I say in this review will be nothing much different than other creators and honest reviewers have stated. This game pissed me off, but i also thoroughly enjoyed playing it at the same time. The graphics are stunning, easily one of the best looking games from the ps4 with only a title like red dead 2 coming close. The game play, though nearly identical to the first game, was enjoyable for me. I loved the first game so much not only for it's incredible story and character development but I enjoyed the game play as well. It's simple, but fun. Repetitive, but never really got boring for me, I loved it. So the visuals and the game play were incredibly enjoyable for me. What ruined the game for me, and so many other people, was the abysmal storytelling. The premise of the story is not what i'm solely mad at either. It's the way and sequence they told the story that was laughable.
Killing Joel is something i feel could certainly be done, i almost expected it. But to do it so early, with no build up or setting of the story line, WHY? Playing as Abby as a unknown character didn't anger me at first because i thought they would interlace the story lines side by side so that we could build each character into the way we could care and love each of them. But the game brings you to a climax with the story of Ellie, making us hurt for her and HATE everyone that was a part of Joel's killing. I enjoyed the murder of each of Abby's friends, and I was hoping that a fight would entail to kill Abby right in the theater and end the game. But no, they throw you back to the beginning of the game and force you to grind though another 10-12 hours playing as the character you hate the most! I don't care about this person, I hate this person! I want her to die I don't care about her or her friends well being. Then they try to change her perception from being an **** by saving those kids. But it's far too little, far too late. They absolutely ruined the entire game with not only the forcing of Abby on you, but the way they do it as well. Then while you think they've salvaged up whatever ending they may have left with Ellie able to be happy with Dina and her child, they rope you into another few hours on a mission that only lengthens and ruins the story even more. Not only revoking you of the death you desire of Abby, but stealing any sort of happiness Ellie may have left. Leaving you feeling empty inside, the whole game feeling pointless. Just to wrap up I've seen some people upset at the fact that Ellie is gay and that the scar child is trans.
There are some little parts in the story that baffled me by it's unnecessary placement, but others i felt were warranted. I feel like Ellie being gay was a good idea, before the trailer came out I figured she would be anyhow. I don't mind the trans placement with the child. I feel like they should've maybe made him a bit older to give more certainty to his choice, but in the context of the story it makes sense. He and his sister became outcasts because of his choice, and that's what brings them to Abby and poses them against their own people and I thought it was interesting. The sex scene though, totally out of left field and unnecessary. It is only even a thing for a few minutes in the next scenes and I feel only put in to make the story seem even more adult. But to put that on top of characters I couldn't care less about, and towards the end of a story I only want to wrap up, it wasn't needed.
I give this game a 4 solely because of how much I enjoyed going through the mobs as Ellie, trying to get revenge for Joel. This game could've been so much better and after years of waiting it is an utter disappointment. At this point they should've just kept it alone with the first game, at least it left the story at a better place than this.

While I enjoy the combat even though it's outdated, I play last of us for story, the story is what made this games downfall. I will point out just one very big plotpoint now, will not spoil the rest. The way they handled one particular death in this game is bad... and I mean BAD. so you will tell me a person who killed hundreds of guys in the last game... met his end by a golfclub? (Also, how stupid is it to have him reveal his name to complete strangers?) Oh, yeah, it's just so he could die.. . Let's be real, you know who I'm talking about and I don't think any of us expected him to survive this game... But kill him like that and not even at the end of the game? By a character we barely know and not a good character at that.. I'm disappointed ND. You have lost my faith again. The writing was BAD. I wouldn't recommend the game to hardcore TLOU fans. People who never played the 1st, might like this game. I could see this being at least a 7-8 for people who never played the 1st. For me? 4. Expand

For a start, the number of flashbacks slows the game massively, at one point there’s a flashback in a flashback! Gone are the nuanced performances of the first game, watching interplay between Joel and Ellie evolve. This story is much more focused on love triangles, pregnancies, and soap opera fare. No wonderfully touching uplifting storytelling, watching a growing paternal love save a broken man, no narrative beats to echo the beautiful giraffe scene from the first game. It’s grim, grimy, and thoroughly predictable, with character storylines sounding like something from 90210 or the OC, though maybe a tad more depressing.

The basic premise is that violence begets violence, and we should have stopped long before the events of the end game. I wish I had heeded their advice.

Especially when you get in close and melee enemies.

Gameplay is equally impressive and will keep you entertained for hours upon hours - although perhaps not as many hours as needed, as the game starts to rely more on more on it, the further into it you get. Which brings me to my next point: story.

The story is a mess. Whether you like the story (or stories, I should say, as one could easily argue that there are more), the real problem with the story is its structure: it is awful. It starts out solid, and remains so throughout it's first chapter, but following that it wanes in quality and becomes unsatisfying and at times, very pretentious.

Last of Us II is sequel to an amazing game, that was always going to be hard to follow. In gameplay it certainly does not disappoint; it's faster, more versatile, more dynamic. The story however, is a massive step down in quality - and I sincerely mean whether you liked the direction they chose or not. I didn't; but I can respect their choice. What I don't like is simply the broken structure. Really bad.

My last note on this: I am definitely going to play Last of Us again. I do not know if I'll ever play LoU II again. The story gives me nothing but grief (in a bad way) and while the gameplay is really good, it's not good enough to carry it for so many hours as the game takes to complete.

I did yesterday and I am kind of disappointed.

Gameplay-wise, it is very similar to the original game, nothing was really added except the "jump" control which is fairly useless in my opinion. Aiming and shooting are OK but not that great and the stealth mechanics are getting repetitive for a 30 hour game. Very restrictive and kind of boring, the gameplay feels a bit outdated. I expected more exploration opportunities, a wider world and some "open world elements".
The graphics are top notch. Detailed, atmospheric and at some parts they look like next-gen. Visually the game is excellent. Nothing more to add here.
The story is very bad in my opinion. It is almost as if the creator of this game made wrote this plot (and dialogues) to piss of the fans and only cared about promoting himself (more than one self inserts) and advertise his views, in order to attract attention. He is rumored to be pursuing a TV career and maybe that would explain a lot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So first of all, Graphics/Audio/Atmosphere are on Top and I don't expect anything less from Naughty Dog as they showed that in Uncharted aswell as in the Last of Us Part 1

What I don't understand is, how can such a renown Game Developer like Naughty Dog, that made Hits like an Uncharted mess up so badly.

I personally liked the Game and how the Story started, Joels Death was tragic and horrifying and touched me deeply, and of course we want to see Justice for him. But you don't do that by killing the Majority of the People responsible for his Death and then let you play the Killer herself. IT MAKES NO SENSE.

The Moment I got to play Abby I just wanted to find a Way to kill her and go back to Ellie, this is how much I hated her.

I understand that Joel killed her Father and that Naughty Dog wanted to show the Reason why Abby killed Joel and make us feel with her. But please make her the Main Antagonist of the Game in the First Place and not a freaking Protagonist that you have to carry through the Story. The Deaths of her Friends (Manny, Owen, Nora, Mel, etc.) didn't touch me at all, I felt satisfied even after we got to know them a bit better. I couldn't empathize with at any point o the game. Especially after her killing one of the most beloved Characters in Game History.

At the End of the Day its a Revenge Story, which is fine in itself, but why would you have to play the Revenge Story of 2 Characters at the same Time.

Im disappointed, and sad, I waited so long for this game, and got so excited with all the Fan Theories, around Abby originally in the Trailer aswell as the Cult.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished the game and I can tell why the hate.
(note I played the game on hard difficulty before I change it to easy difficulty because I just wanted to finish my pain)
    First the positives:
TLOU2 is one of the best looking games of this generation.
The first hours of the game build the tension perfectly (before that controversial scene). The exploration is well rewarded.
    and...that's it.

    Mixed:
the gameplay, they add DOGE button that makes the game a cakewalk, you can easily rush and enemy and not be punished by it, (note most of the game I played it on hard until the last two chapters of the game), I had a lot of clunky moments where the camera didn't look where I wanted and there is no button or to immediately change your view from left to right like in other games. You have enough supplies to go and wage war and the enemies are either dumb as a rock or intelligent like a predator, I had moments where they could easily see me through walls or tall grass, finally, the companions (I will talk about their traits and character in the story section, now only the technical part) are useless, they spot me a lot of times with them because they refuse to turn off their flashlights or just let me do all the killing for me, except in the scripted parts (duh).

    The bad:
New human enemies that heavy type like in any videogame, but they resist 2 bullets to the head that kill the sense of realism of the game.
Clickers are easier now, you have a knife that doesn't break and you don't need to sneak behind them, you can easily grab them from the front and easily kill them. So...they are not scary anymore like in the first game.
So many bad level design, when you want to do a part super sneaky, the game purposely is designed for you to fight them, like the first level you encounter the scars (the e3 gameplay showcase level).
At the end of the day, the game is no longer about survival but an action game.

    The awful: story and characters
brace yourself, Im about to end this game's career...wait, other people already did it, nevermind.
As you know, tlou isn't about the gameplay, but the story, that's why I like tlou 1 story and worldbuilding, but the gameplay is what it lacks.
Since this game is about story, you must have a good one, unfortunately it doesn't
First: the death of Joel, people aren't mad because Joel died, their mad because how he died. They changed core design character traits from the first game. Joel and Tommy woul've never help Abby, Joel woul've never trust the wolf easily, Joel would've never do something risky that would've put Tommy in danger, guess what, they did it in tlou 2 to have their revenge story.

Second: Ellie, In the end Ellie end would've never spare Abby, she would've never regre killing Mel (just because her girlfriend was pregnant), thats bad writing. Ellie would've let jessie take dina back to jackson and look for tommy to help her kill everyone.

Tommy: at leats he is consistent, but he get the screentime of Haru in Persona 5, non-existant.

Jessie and Dina: they are one dimensional, and have no reason to help you. Their line are generic and honestly Jessie is just a meat-bag, that wouldn't be bad, but the game tries so hard to care for them put the game does not put reasons to like them. Jessie: I look up to Joel (but we never see this, we don't know the realitonship of joel and jessie, therfore we dont care).

Dina: I love you, we do this together. that's the only reason...a generic reason if you ask me and she doesn't add nothing more, their dialogues are boring or just obvious. She is like Navi in TLOZ OoT, but she is useless.

Abby: she is just a **** she has no likeable traits, not even at the end of the game or when you use her. She is all muscle and no character. And brings most of the plot holes: how did she know how joel looked liked? How did she track you down when the map you drop didn't had your hiding location? why did she goe back for those kids (just because of a dream, that is weak as hell)? SO MANY WHYS (but I need to spare my characters).

Owen...I like owen. He is consisnten and a likeable charac ter with good goals, unfortunatley he is underdeveloped.

The rest of the WLF: the game tries so hard for you to like them, but in the end is useless, because you know this guys are just as worst as the scars. They are not better and at somepoint even worse, their actions when you use Ellie are potrayed as phycos, but when you use abby they are good folks. And there is such a big disconnect, bad writting once again.

Scars: they are not consistent, they dont use the "old world stuff". But they do, and the reason is because they use it when convinient. Yel says that, literally he/she says that.

Finally the ending: the worst written ending I've seen. Is the least video game ending of all time. When you play games, you want at the end to be a payoff. Guess what, there is none, you let Abby go away, and all that killing for nothing.

Gameplay and graphics are top notch, but the story is most important in this style of game. The writing in this game is abysmal. The characters you are supposed to root for are despicable and the decisions they make are idiotic. And how am I supposed to believe that a 100 pound angry teenage girl can take out sk manygrown men if this game is going for semi-realism

Твёрдая четверка. На прохождение ушло 22 часа. Годный графон, анимации на высоте. Игра слишком затянута, начал скучать после пяти часов. Сюжет в целом годный, если ты толераст.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
