This game is extremely negative, full of death, sadness, and has a horrible ending. I bought this thinking there's no way Naughty Dog could mess up an amazing IP, but sure enough, they did. If you want to feel depressed after finishing this game, then play it. Otherwise, you aren't missing much besides a ton of swearing, violence, and gore.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoilers. After loving the first game so much, what a disappointment this game was. Characters I all hated - Tommy's cool - relationships I could not connect with, decisions about plot, no improvements in core game play like stealth and enemy AI. Until this game I thought Naughty Dog could do no wrong in story telling. This game was full of awful characters you hate and the way this game was written forcing you to play as those characters, ugh. The ending was maybe the dumbest I have ever seen. I'll take a NES game from my childhood that ended with "THE END! GAME OVER" I am glad Ellie ended up alone. Jump button? It got me in trouble more than anything. I forced myself to slog through until the end and I wish the game was 10 hours shorter.

Some good things here like when you come across the Scars. Dogs can smell you. That is about it.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first played this game, it was my first experience to "The last of us", so my review is gonna be much more positive than others (and just so you know, I'm in a playthrough of the first right now. Will write a review when I beat that). Anyways, lets get on why I think this game is painfully mediocre.

1: Joel's death. After playing only HALF of the first game, the sequel pisses me off SO hard. Like, I would consider main characters dying acceptable if it tied perfectly with the story and it's themes in a clear way, while also keeping it subtle. Tlou2 does absolutely none of these! What it does is instead focus on the SIDE characters (abby) in the second half of the game, which is straight up filler and a waste of not only my time, but everyone who's played this game's time. And even in the Ellie half of the story, it just shrugs off the theme it attempted to show in more of a preference towards humanizing everyone that ellie meets. That works for some stories, but THIS IS THE SEQUEL TO THE LAST OF US! It completely ignores the theme it tried to narrate until the very end of the game, where it also neglects it's theme by making it focus on ellie and abby's rivalry. And at the very end of it all, ellie spares abby, along with trans baldy with her, which is SUPER STUPID JUST KILL ABBY YOU DIPSH!T ELLIE! Anyway I talked for too long.

2: The gameplay. It's last of us gameplay of course it's really good! Probably the only thing I really like about this game, outside of tommy (btw tommy is god tier character). But then you're reminded that the 1st's gameplay exist, then you play the 1st. If you want better gameplay from tlou2, play tlou, you won't regret it!

3: The obnoxious bugs. When you consider that the last months of development were during the pandemic (insert infected joke here) and the fact that the game was rush immensely for a 2020 release, of course there's gonna be a lot of bugs. While in the 1st they were only visual glitches, in the 2nd, they are full on "you clip into the wall while walking into a building and you die" type glitch. I probably ran into 10 glitches while playing this game, the 1st one I talked about actually happening to me in the overworld section of the game. I also found a glitch where you dance around a door before you open it, yeah that exists.

Anyway tlou2 is mediocre or byeeeeeeeee.

Abby and Ellie are not “heros” or “villains”. They’re just people making choices, some good, some bad. They both grow and they both decide to end the cycle of violence, but more than that, they both find meaning and understanding in life through their journeys.

It made the 2nd half of the game extremely unenjoyable, all I did was rush through everything as fast as I humanly could on survivor. The game play is fun but simply copy and pasted from the first game. Honestly I do like the drama but nothing is added to this world, only one new infected and one unique zombie boss that honestly was one of the best parts of the game. It simply doesn’t feel like an apocalypse. Not saying it has to be like days gone hordes in it but like, not make the zombies in the backseat. The sex scene as well was simply unneeded, all it did was expose one person as a cheater and another as a emotionless **** who never can be redeemed. They try to show two sides of a story but end up making one side simply and utterly unlikable because they never learn their lesson. It was nice to see representation of LGBTQ+ in a game and not have it forced down the players throat and be sjw like, but one character not being transphobic doesn’t make them a good person, again, they never reflect on their choices and never gives the other side an apology or anything. I admittedly maybe I rate it a 4 because of the high expectations I had for this game, but that was because the 1st was the only game ever to actually make me feel attached to the point I cried. It is okay for the fact for certain people to die in this game died, but the manner of which they died, in a dramatic and cinematic game this is, it’s just wrong and a slap in our faces. I love ya naughty dog but please, please, PLEASE if there is a part 3, don’t hurt us like this again you still have solid building blocks these characters CAN BE REDEEMED AND LOVED AGAIN. I bought last of us 1 for both ps3 and 4 and bought last of us 2 the day it came out, but if the third feels like how 2 felt, I won’t buy it. To finish this off on a high note too all the actors and programmers of this game I cherish and love the effort and work put into this game, everything but the actual progression and how things were handled in the story were absolutely gorgeous, no one deserved any hate for who they portrayed, it seriously got me through this game and it was as perfect as the 1st. Neil if you see this please don’t leave this game ik what I say is maybe harsh, but you have what it takes, you made the first game, don’t let this game make you spiral. Your ideas for this game were good, like I said that alternate ending sounded amazing. Sincerely and with hard love, Mythicalbellyrubber (p.s. after writing this I did decide to go up to 5, 4 is too low of a rate and is not a under mediocre game) Expand

The problem however is that the actual gameplay of this game is very short with awefull pacing. You spend a big part of the game just walking og watching cutscenes and the story told here is a mess, the big twists in the story was so easy to see coming. For some reason they force you to actually play through a lot of the cutscenes in the game, making a second playthrough a chore. At the end I felt like a wasted my time playing this game, the story was boring and what felt like 70% of the game was cutscenes or walking from point A to B while listening to the characters talking.
This felt more like a soap opera than a game. So dissapointing, the first game is one of my all time favorite games.

This is one of those games that people have either lovely or hated, where do I stand... well despite the good things it does, I completely and total HATE is game, and hate is the right word for this.

    The good:
    - Graphics and attention to detail is something to be commended.

    - Animation of every character and NPC is flawless

    - Combat is satisfying and does require you to think either on your feet or ahead of time

    - The Acting is solid from everyone, even the grunts that you're forced to kill say their lines to the highest standard

    The Bad (where to start?):
    - I said the graphics are amazing, but I don't think the visual design looks good, it's mostly grey, grey as far as the eye can see which isn't fun to look at.

    - Level design is quite simply either an over-sized corridor that doesn't look like a corridor so as to trick your brain into thinking you're not walking down a corridor, or walking down an actual corridor.

    - Mission design is pretty much, "hey see that place off in the distance, we gotta walk that for some reason, and they'll probably be something in our way that we need to brutally kill" CTRL C for 20 hours.

    - Furthermore... IT'S 20 GOD DAMN HOURS LONG!!! Way longer than it has any right to be, which makes playing it oh so very boring and frustrating after the first 10 hours.

    - Story... Jesus Christ. Metacritic only allows 5000 characters for a review, I'd need 5x that to fully example how unbelievably terrible the story, plot, writing, characters, themes and world-building are, but here's my thoughts in brief:

    - the only way I could fix the story is if it was completely rewritten, from start to finish it's stupid, slow, ridiculous, nonsensical, and full of filler, which is why it's 20 hours long

    - the plot only works if all the characters had a lobotomy beforehand, but as far as I'm aware they didn't so the plot doesn't work on any level except maybe for baby's first dramatic fiction writing.

    - despite the characters being played very well by some very talented actors who I can tell put their hearts and souls into this stinker, the characters are all terrible, despite the writers trying to make you like "certain" characters more than others, you end up hating everyone when you take a step back and think about it for 2 minutes.

    - When the overall theme of "revenge is bad" is not only predictable and has been done in a thousand other, better stories, but is horribly executed here, for example (no spoilers) Ellie does something pretty bad thing at the mid-point in order to get revenge, she seems very shaken by the experience immediately after and you'd think being a reasonable human being that she'd call it a day because of it, but in the next scene, she's completely fine, err...

    - The world in which this game takes place, i.e. zombie apocalypse doesn't sit comfortably with the overall theme, plot and story, the infected are simply there to add some continuity points and be another thing to kill, and this possibly could have been forgiven if this game wasn't attached to one of the best games that come out in the last decade and was a new IP, but it is, unfortunately, a sequel to that game which doesn't expand on the information given to us in the last game so you're more or less just wondering what's the point of this game if it's not going to expand on what the last game gave us.

And sums up my thoughts on The Last of Us Part II, it is a game that has no right to exist the way it does, it adds nothing to the world, and literally takes everything from every single character, the first game had an overall theme of "hope", a theme that stopped that game from being a pain to play, this game is a misery to play, of all the games I've played, the good, the bad, and the forgettable, the game I regret playing the most is this one.

For me, this game doesn't exist and The Last of Us was simply the last game in that IP

Great graphics, voice acting and game mechanics. Exploration is not rewarded.

The big issue is that the story tries to subvert expectations but does so in a ham fisted way. People invested in the characters from the first game will find the subverting wrenching and brutal. Attempts to justify the narrative are also ham fisted. Story and exploration aside the game is well put together.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The good thing about fictional stories is that if the sequels happen to be awful, you can always pretend they never existed.
Story-wise this game is a mess, relies heavily on shock value, the trailers clearly tried tricking the fanbse that you'd have more time playing as Joel, and overall it has so many other narrative problems that are worthy of being in a Netflix-original show. It really is that underwhelming.
I wasn't really a fan of the first TLOU game but at least I was looking forward to see what was going to happen next, in TLOU2 things felt like they kept dragging on and on and on and on.
But credit where credit is due, technologically speaking the game is a true work of art. it looks good, it plays good, the little details really sell the realism the game's going for and it has a lot of accessibility options that are always well received.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hearing fans say this game is a complete 'Masterpiece' makes me think the TLOU community is completely blind or delusional. Let's start with the Pros, the gameplay is fun and straightforward, similar to the old game, and it's nice to play as Ellie more and see her fighting as she's grown up now. The game is beautiful, from the scenery to the world, the character's faces, the weapons, and everything. The game is a masterpiece... graphics-wise. Abby is a proper protagonist that truly makes you feel anger while experiencing the game as Ellie. Let's continue with the Cons. The game's new characters are awful. We are forced to talk with characters who are boring and soulless on both sides of each character (Abby and Ellie). Only once in the story did I find any side character that seemed interesting, and that was Lev. All the other characters felt like just empty puppets. I had a deeper connection with a Clicker than I did with Dina. She was only there to give Ellie a love interest and to help her move on... and she didn't even do that as Ellie goes back to get Abby at the end. Jesse was an odd character as they lied in the trailer about his location (It was Joel in the trailer and Jesse in the game). His only existence in the game was just so Ellie had a kid to take care of to help her get past the trauma from Abby. Only 1 new side character remained interesting and that was Lev. He had an interesting story and a good connection with Abby that helped us feel for both of them and we were able to understand both of these characters and relate to them. The others we have no clue about, they just appeared from thin air with no weight to them to help us relate. They were purely there to just stop Ellie from continuing the cycle of hate. Narrative. What a sloppy way of continuing a story. Now, the game is about Ellie, yes, but, because it is about her doesn't mean you have to replace everything from the old game. Joel's death was known by everybody that it was going to happen as he needed to pay for his actions and death with the consequence, but to do it the way they did by him sloppy giving out his name and accepting these new random people into a house on a snowy mountain. That isn't Joel. Joel isn't the type of person to suddenly warm up and trust everybody as you can see throughout the first game. Just as the apocalypse is starting (With Sara) Joel is already only looking for himself and his family, abandoning the random family with a child. From Surviving 25 years in the apocalypse you're telling me that he warms up to people in only 5 years? 5 YEARS? Even after 20 years, in the first game, When Ellie and Joel leave Bill's and encounter the scavengers. The scavenger cries out in pain to help and Joel, with no hesitation, revs the engine and drives straight into him. The equivalent of what Joel did in TLOU2, in this situation, is as if he got out of the car and said to the scavenger 'Everything Okay?'. It doesn't make sense in a million years. There was not even a funeral for Joel, we saw him die brutally just to see a black screen, and then to a grave, which felt like disrespect to both the player and the character. Even ignoring this, they could've vastly improved the game's structure by putting each Flashback first for Ellie and Joel to help us reconnect with this world after 7 years of delays and waiting. Abby's story was important but, was unbearable, forcing us to play a character who killed a beloved character is just cruel. They could've even made us play as Abby first then Ellie shows that Abby kills Joel. That would've made the game much more bearable to play. With how everything was structured in this game, it felt pointless, from the start to the end, everything that we did in the game felt like nothing apart from everybody in the game and the real world being depressed.

The game was unbearable for a lot of time. Wish I could understand this is a masterpiece from a beloved franchise.

This is a game with a well-developed plot and interesting characters. She changed my mind about the main characters Ellie and Joel. She showed the consequences of their actions committed in part 1. After such a deep game, it is difficult to start playing something else. Game of the Decade.

The gameplay is very solid. Guns, melee, stealth i.e. all the combat is very satisfying and fluid for me. However that's kind of all there is. Story sections with characters walking and talking and then combat sections. It's nice that there's more combat in this one and less puzzles but it's story feels so forced.

I could see what was coming ahead and when I hoped to be surprised I was not. They force you to spend time with the opposing side to make you feel for both of them however I think it just wasn't done naturally. It feels forced like they are cramming Abbie and her very odd personality down your throat. Showing her pros and cons for a very long section of the game where all I wanted was to get back to Ellie, the character I had followed throughout the last game and expected to do so in this one. If we had smaller Abbie sections, I think it could've hit us much better but forcing 8 hours of Abbie actually makes me feel less for her.

The game itself is a technical achievement. Incredible visuals, awesome combat but the experience is let down by the forced story moments that outstay their welcome. 5/10.

The story feels almost forced, like they only made this game because they have to. Second in an absolutely beautiful world with outstanding visuals the world feels shallow. Let's take npc characters for starters, in most modern games if I'm in an area littered with npcs then they tend to interact with me or acknowledge that I exist in the world, but not this game. You never feel like you are part of the world unless it is a triggered event that is designed to push the story further. Also in the first game you really could relate to the characters and the decisions they make because it was always calculated and thought out and this time around those same people are just careless idiots. Also everything just happens to be too convenient like a cheap movie. Then we also take the lack of a multi player mode and how this game just lacks all the heart and soul that you found in the original Last of Us and I feel that this game does deserve all the hate that it is receiving. I honestly can not with a good conscience recommend that anyone who loved the first game play this game, which seems to just piss on all the hard work that the original team put into the game. Expand

While there are shining moments, that usual Last Of Us quality, the overall story and the arc will quickly drop you off, never to pick you up again. It gives you just enough to keep playing, only to result in a journey you wish you never took. Naughty Dog finally dropped the ball. Despite being very solid game in its technology-side, the story should've been the biggest catch especially after Part 1. The user score you see before you is indeed what you get: the fanbase isn't lying.

If you line Naughty Dog games for their game play you will line this one. The presentation is superb as always.
However the story is horrible, badly told and i can not give a score of more than 4

The story is best enjoyed if you take it as a very bad joke told by a drunk comedian. It is badly written, horrible from a plot standpoint, filled with bad decisions. It pretensious in the strictest sense. It pretendent to be deep, moving, emotional. Its just bad.

The game chooses to avoid the obvious story that we all expected--the story that would have been more challenging to write due to our expecting it, but much more rewarding if they had the talent to pull it off--and chooses instead to go off and wallow in a grotesque landscape that is like something written for the Onion. I find it hard to believe that Naughty Dog's opinion of humanity is so poor that they would craft such an unbelievable series of events. Like Season 8 of Game of Thrones, they seem to believe that subverting expectations is somehow artistic, when the truth is meeting the expectations (in a sequel) of fans in a creative way is the more difficult task for the artist.

Don't get me wrong. The game is a polished gem. If you loved the gameplay of the first, then you will find much to love here. Combat and exploration, the visuals, and the world itself are expertly rendered and beautiful, even while also terrible. That they put great effort into the game goes without saying and nobody should take that away from them. If you're a fan of the Last of Us due to the gameplay and combat, you are in for a real treat.

If, however, you were fans because you loved Joel and Ellie, and because you wanted to see what Naughty Dog would do with their relationship--Joel having lied to her to her face, and Ellie suspicious and, thus, her love of Joel tainted by doubt--then you will be disappointed. Bitterly so. It seems like such an opportunity wasted. Surely they could have made the same diversity decisions that delight Twitter-activists while telling us a story that we actually wanted to know about. In hindsight, seeing Joel in that commercial on television seems a bit cruel and misleading.

To summarize, this game continues the recent fad of subverting our expectations by failing to give fans those elements that made their art so attractive in the first place while wallowing in the negativity they see in the world, like a teenager who first encounters goth and thinks they've had an epiphany. As a technical work it is truly astounding and a game worthy of purchasing, if only to reward the actual artists and programmers who obviously poured their hearts out into this game, but if you were a fan of the original you probably won't enjoy it.

Is art supposed to be enjoyable? Maybe not in every case. But if we're talking about a video game, then, yes, I think it is supposed to be enjoyable. Call me old fashioned that way. 4 out of 10 for story. 9 out of 10 for the gameplay itself.

Story? Hmm... Not going to dump any spoilers on here but what a massive disappointment that was, Ellie acting out of character, various plot-holes and a very unsatisfactory ending.
Gameplay is very similar to the first one minus the environment puzzles, in that it's extremely shallow with bland "stealth" mechanics attached.

I would recommend you spend your hard earned cash else-where, preferably into Cyberpunk 2077, or Vampire Bloodlines 2 at the end of the year, while the game is certainly not a "0" it's most CERTAINLY not a 10/10, or a 100/100 (This is what's considered a perfect game from the media... yeah, if you believe that then I got a bridge to sell you).

The plot armors are countless to keep some characters alive and kill some characters off pointlessly to steer the story the way they want to term the story as unpredictable or bold. You can see where the story is going and why Joel was killed right from the start because he was talking about that incident at the start of the game with Tommy. The story was not interesting. Not to mention it is false advertising by showing Joel and replaced him with Jesse in the game. Ellie killed hundreds of people to get to Abby then unable to kill her because revenge is bad? The game is a “visual masterpiece” but that’s as far as the masterpiece goes. The game play adds nothing to the formula from the first game except a jump button that is only used a handful (if that) of times in the game. I enjoyed the first game despite it's game play, not because of it. That was due to the compelling story and incredible writing and character building.

The Last of Us 2 completely ignores the characters built in the first game. It also makes the story in the first game completely irrelevant. Characters behave out of character. One of the major story points that happens within the first couple hours only happens because a character does something this character would NEVER do as established in the first game. It’s an utter disgrace and ruins the character. Sadly this is the sole driving force of the entire game. Not only is the plot point created by this event the main focus of the game and story but it is also repeated twice. It’s the most basic thing I’ve ever seen and to make matters worse it is written very poorly. It’s bad enough to run with a ridiculous concept but I’d you are going to you better darn well get the writing and characters right. This game does neither. The characters are boring and not compelling and the writing is that of something I would have written before I got into middle school.

The “poignant” moment at the very end was just laughable. I mean literally. I laughed out loud. If you like this game then good for you. I’m not faulting anyone’s opinion. My as for me I say shame on Naughty Dog For releasing this garbage. By the way none of my review has anything to do with politics, ethics, wholeness etc... although all that trash is in the game too and would stop my score even more.

The combat is good enough to carry you through a great story except there isn't a great story. This isn't the Witcher 3... you wont come out with fond memories and characters you'll love and cherish for all time. Instead you'll be frustrated about the direction characters take and hate all the characters involved. By the end you'll probably wonder why you wasted your time here with these terrible people. There won't be a 10 year anniversary video for The Last of Us 2 like the Witcher 3 got. You'll be ready to move on immediately to wash the taste out of your mouth.

It's Naughty Dog's series and they told the story they wanted to, it just isn't anything like the story I wanted apart from one flashback stage. Ultimately, in telling their story they forgot that games have to be fun, and when the story gets in the way of that like this does, that is how a 10/10 masterpiece ends up with a bad rating.

The "game" doesn't feel like a game at points. Playing the game is a bleak and boring experience, with the game mechanics going practically unchanged from the previous game. The poor gameplay experience really is one of the game's key faults, as games are supposed to be fun and engaging, not glorified walking and stealth sims. The other fault is the story. Although it is not as terrible as others claim in my opinion and the LGBT representation represents a social leap forward for gaming as art, certain specific decisions as to the direction of the story itself are not effective, although understandable as to what they were made. The set up works, but everything else falls to crap after the first half. Combine that with the apparently terrible working conditions or Naughty Dog employees, and you get an underwhelming follow-up to one of the best games of last generation. Expand

The graphics, sound design and acting in this game is on another level. It's incredible to actually see this kind of graphical fidelity on such old hardware (I have a regular first gen PS4). The sounds are well captured and immerse you more into the environments of the game. The acting is top notch and worthy of an academy award.

The gameplay is largely the same as its predecessor, with the addition of jumping and going prone to explore the landscape. Melee combat now has a dodge mechanic, which can make those tense showdowns a little easier to manage. I do find getting melee kills in this game a bit too easy though, as you don't have the same depreciating craftable weapons from the first game. I also find it disappointing that you can't pick up a fallen enemy's weapon, which kills some aspect of realism as well as emergent gameplay.

The story and characterization is where I'm truly divided with the game. I expected certain deaths here and there, but I believe it was executed poorly. The narrative is also very confusing with all the flashbacks and timelines. I think they tried to take the Pulp Fiction route in changing up the timeline of events and trying to make it self-referential, but it ended up being a convoluted mess in my opinion. There is also a large section of the game where it switches up the character you play as, and although I enjoyed certain aspects of the character, I could not resonate with the character on a personal level like I could with Ellie. It seems like the narrative is torn on who they want to portray as the protagonist of this game, and it really makes a mess of things from the eyes of the viewer.

Even worse is as I continue playing as the new character, I can feel myself slowly losing interest in playing the game and have to force myself to complete it. The game's pacing takes a bad turn here and becomes another conspicuous problem for the game. In the previous game, the banter between Joel and Ellie kept things interesting at least. Here, I was dragged out in long sections by myself, and even when I did have a companion, I did not find them interesting.

TLOU2 was a game I was really looking forward to, and while it really shined as an achievement in aesthetics and acting, the game's narrative, characters, and pacing really weigh down everything great about it. Had TLOU2 not been such a story and character-focused game, those issues wouldn't have been much of a problem. But as it stands, the game feels like wasted potential, and that pains me a lot to say that because I really loved the first game and had high hopes for this one.

Maybe I was biased against it, after all, it isn't only a console game, but a Sony product, and due to a few scandals at Sony and its subsidiaries I wouldn't buy a Sony product even if it would be near perfect. Maybe I was biased against it, because I have seen gameplay videos and seen some pretty lazy writing that made the game weaker, and the only kind of action games I enjoy are the ones that come with a good story.

Maybe. But with all the nice graphics and audio, they have spent a lot of money on elements that were important in a lot of games I have played, and those games just didn't age well. They have spent a lot of money on aesthetics that would be surpassed in next-generation, even at lower costs. Yet in the writing, I have seen some cheap tricks. When someone who will at other places enjoy hurting others (and acting like a psycho) just happily playing with dogs to build sympathy that is cheap and bad writing.

Normally honest critics tend to spot such problems, but when they want to be on good terms of powerful publishers, they quickly forget how to spot that. Or they forget their integrity. If they would promise me a rather average game, with the somewhat badly written story and amazing graphics, I would feel satisfied and happy. But as both Sony and crooked reviewers promised a masterpiece it was a disappointment.

Just before I would stop feeling disappointed, there was always some minor or not so minor issue that refreshed this bad feeling. And overall we don't buy or play games to feel disappointed by them.

But as a gamer who enjoys subscription services like Origin Access or XBOX Game Pass that come with many games, I would say if they were honest about it and would promise a mediocre game, it wouldn't be much worse than a random game in the vault.

It wouldn't be much worse than "fan favorite" games like FIFA 2020 from EA Sports. That game is also unpopular for some reasons, but in that cases, EA makes a game for their fans, players and know we want them to spend all the money and even more (from MTX) on having good models of players, venues, etc. and they spend a lot in the graphics department, and we have to accept the not so slightly outdated gameplay.

The Last of Us 2 spent a lot of money on amazing graphics, really. Too bad that players who enjoy the franchise were attached to characters like Joel and mourn their loss. That anger combined with disappointment over the game is pretty loud on the Internet. I couldn't care less for Joel. Sony lost me when they had their rootkit issue, when they mishandled data breaches, when they betrayed the trust of customers repeatedly and acted all entitled about it. So there was no way for me to care about Joel. But it looks like Sony forgot the fact they should make their products for their customers.

Why? Because they knew they can get away with it. People will buy The Last of Us 2, they will buy Playstation 5, and at the end of the PS5 era, they will buy a game that will be twice as bad as The Last of Us 2. In the end, they don't lose customers there, and they will be able to sell a few Bravia TVs to the "brave" leftish "social justice" warriors, whose bravery ends when they aren't protected from negative opinions by their mob mentality and their safe spaces.

it is a game that just represents Sony so perfectly...

The game tries to MANIPULATE you all the time into thinking about the other side of the matter, into make you believe that there is no good and evil. It makes a tremendous effort to compare a brutal and slow murder of and unnarmed and defenseless man to the kill of a man armed with a scalpel that was trying to kill a little girl.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 visually and cinematically is a masterpiece and unfortunately that's about as far as it goes in the end.

The gameplay is well honestly it didn't do much to change or enhance what was already present from the first game in any meaningful way. Sure its smooth, can be fun and of course well done for what it is but that was to be expected I would think.

This game franchise from day one for me has always been about the story.

Unfortunately I found this story to be very poorly paced and delivered the big moments in a way that even though you want to sympathize with the characters involved you just can't because the new characters didn't get the same treatment and ND storytelling magic (That use used to be known for) that Joel, Tommy and Sarah got in the first game where in the first 20 minutes you went through so many emotions and it left you crying like a baby before the game actually even starts. Because of that and the fact that the big moment happens so quickly you have almost no time to build a true emotional bond with the new characters and all you can do is hate them and every action the game forces you to take there after all the way up to the end where the payoff is nil of any meaning to all that came before. It's not a good or unique revenge story in the end if anything it pushes the revenge to long and too hard for the ending to be what it was. It's not even unique to a world where half the population are now fungus zombies and saddest of all they take a backseat to the entire story of this game and might as well not even exist.

I also liked how the game tells us that there is no good or evil, its about perspective. But the story seemed a bit pointless, in the end no one gets what they want, nothing was achieved. And the SJW stuff was way too much, it hit the bar when telling us that Levi identifies as a man. Why do such a thing to a 13 year old girl? -The Good/Great:
-Environments/Sound/Physics/Tech Art was the best I have seen in a game. An unbelievable masterpiece. You should all be proud. The Art Director and team deserve a medal.
-The inclusion of diverse characters. Well done. I applaud you. My favorite character was Trans-gendered and it's nice to see.

    The Bad:
-Gameplay. There is a lot to write about here. The gameplay was one of the worst parts of the game. Overall, the level of violence was too much.
-Game Design. This is the same game mechanic as Drake's/The Last of Us/Day's End... For goodness sake let me pick up more than 9 (that's right NINE) bullets. Ridiculous. There are many other ways of ensuring a player can't horde bullets. Lazy.
-Story. There is a lot written about this so I won't' rehash all of this here. The characters weren't true to who they were in the first game. As an example, there is no way Tommy would have pushed Ellie to go find Abby at the end after Ellie had settled down (this was Tommy's whole motivation for creating a community!!). And he certainly wouldn't have said "well I can't go". BS. One example of dozens.
-And my worst gripe: Abby. This was handled so poorly. I absolutely detested playing this character for what she did to Joel... and that was half the game! If you want to understand my score, that is the major part.

Here's the key take-away: PLAYABLE CHARACTERS NEED TO BE LIKEABLE. You need to connect with them on some level and Abby was a dispicable character... DO NOT MAKE 'The Last of Us 3' WITH ABBY AS A PLAYABLE CHARACTER !!!!!!!!!! That will ruin the game. Period.

    Good luck.

The hatred for strong male characters is evident throughout the 25 hours of this gore filled surreal nightmare.
