After the first game and playing as Joel through all the struggles and waiting 7 years to do it again, to not get the chance to again was a disappointment but to have his death within the first hour was even worse. Feeling emotionally flat while playing the game afterwards. Setting out as Ellie for revenge, this is a big difference to the Ellie from the first game the spark and joy is gone from her outlook on life, Rage and brutality replace them. Going through the story I enjoyed a lot of the new features, nothing better than a silencer headshot. Stalkers are a much better enemies and always felt anxious when encountering them. Exploring is great and finding all the collectibles of how people are living through the outbreak are intriguing and I do like the Dina and Ellie interactions within the open world, which when your playing day 1 in Seattle are amazing. Flashbacks with Ellie and Joel hit home just how much you miss playing as them and bring the first game vibes back. Seeing the heartbreak when Joel finally confesses what he did in the previous game and Ellie reaction and her leaving Joel. On the flip side when you flip to playing as Abby - Joel’s killer, the flashback seem to drag and this is where the game pacing lags abit. I get what naughty dog was trying to do with Abby, anyone who has had their dad killed would of course want revenge on the person. But we had already played through a 20+ hour game as Joel connected to the character waited 7 years to play as him again and to have him killed and then to play as his killer, personally not a fan and I couldn’t connect to her as a character and all of her friends are throw away characters and forgettable and I had no attachment to them at all. Maybe if this game was all around Abby and then maybe Part 3 was the Ellie/Abby face off there could’ve been abit more investment with Abby side of things. But personally I never was fully invested and was just trying to get through to where we had left Ellie. What I will say about Abby part of the game is it definitely has the bigger standout moments. The ratking boss fight in the hospital a favourite, The climb up the building and crane, dodging tommy sniper rounds, fleeing through the forest with only your melee attacks against stalkers and the fight and flee of the Scars island while burning are all standout exciting moments. Ellie has some great campaign moments too (the first encounter with the scars a personally favourite, hearing those whistles for the first time) Abby moments standout more and are more memorable which the developers maybe have Abby these better moments so people could enjoy playing as the character more. Lev I felt was thrown in to show a compassion side to Abby but this connection felt forced and didn’t really have enough time to develop a connection with them the same way Joel and Ellie in the first game. Then we play as Abby fighting Ellie, and in this part I hated it I just wanted to get through it as quickly as I could didn’t enjoy it one bit. Then we get to the cutscene and when Abby holds a knife to pregnant Dina and Ellie says she’s pregnant and Abby response is “Good” and is about to slit her throat before Lev stops her. This shows that Abby is still a monster and hasn’t change, I get she wants revenge for her friends and Owen and Ellie had killed Mel who was pregnant as well. But at least Ellie felt physical sick from her actions and was shaking, Abby was going to enjoy killing Dina, both Abby and Ellie could both be consider monsters with their brutality but at least Ellie was likeable. Then Ellie goes for revenge one last time leaving her life behind and goes through the rattlers picking up a great silenced machine gun, finds Abby tortured and has one final brutally battle against her, I personally didn’t care if Abby lived or die, I was over it the story had drained me and I was done. The first game I could pick up and replay again and again. This game I’m not sure if I could commit to playing again no matter how go the gameplay is, when the story is as depressing and unenjoyable id rather play something else for minding numbing gameplay goodness. This game is one you have to play to make up your own mind I can see why people will love it, but I’d highly recommend waiting until the price drops before committing to it, in case you end up hating it. All I can say is The last of us part 3 will be interesting if they ever make one. Expand

The Last of us Part II feels like the work of an incredibly talented crew working with a very, very average captain at the helm who doesn’t like to listen to anyone and steers the ship all over the place thinking he has discovered his own personal treasure.
Does the world need another TLOU2 review? Probably not, but did the world need a sequel to what is still one of the best games of all time? It would appear that it did not either.
To give the game a zero, as so many have, is really not giving credit where credit is due. There are things to like about it; the gameplay to cutscenes are very smooth, the dodge button is a good addition, the graphics and motion capture are spectacular, and the voice acting is fantastic.
Even the worst characters are very well voice acted.
The lighting is cold and somewhat menacing, the stealth mechanics are all there from the first one and the infected are even more terrifying than before.
So with all of this good, what makes this a game many people (including this reviewer) deeply regret spending their money on?
The game takes about 20-25 hours to play through. Around a vast majority of those are unbearable. Some games require grinding or tedious activities for a reward at the end. This was just a disappointment from start to finish. The wasted potential of the team who made this game is just heart breaking.
It seemed someone forgot that games are supposed to be fun, not some kind of hate simulator, where the player and the characters involved are the target.
The story was absolutely hackneyed, even to the point where the most “shocking” scene was basically ripped right off a well-known zombie tv series / comic book. You could almost feel the conceit of the writers coming out of the screen, which if frankly something that I have personally never felt from a game before.
I did not enjoy this game, it was ugly, hateful and violent, and no where near as clever as it thought it was. This really felt like it was written by an angry teenager who despised the first game so passionately, that he wanted to tear it down and spit on its remains. The first game was about something beautiful in a cruel and bleak world. A story like that is difficult to get right but TLOU part One achieved it with flying colours. The sequel seems to have all of the artistic value of a 90s slasher or exploitation film but some kind of disaster-artist-like smugness.
Without giving anything away, someone kills someone who kills someone and then someone else goes after them. In the end there was apparently a message about breaking the cycle. The families of the five hundred anonymous henchmen who were murdered for the sake of this realisation may disagree. And that’s it, it sounds simple because it was. I understood Mulholland drive the first time I watched it, so I doubt I missed anything that was too nuanced.
So, can I respect the effort and skill that went into making this game? Absolutely.
Would I recommend it, or play it again? No, I truly would not. As with all things, games are subjective. Maybe buy it on sale if you fancy yourself a nihilist or want to wear a beret and tell people they didn’t get it because it was too profound, otherwise your time could be better spent.

This game is both absolutely amazing, and absolute trash depending on how you look at it. If you care about. From one point of view, the game play is fun, the quality of the acting, and graphics are absolutely top notch, and the story is mildly interesting. It has a diverse cast of characters, and looks from multiple points of view. If I were to rate this game in a vacuum, I would give it as high as a 9/10. However, rating this game in a vacuum would do every other game in the world a disservice, because in no world do we ever rate games in a complete vacuum.

While this game has amazing game play, it's just a slightly polished version of the first game. If you loved the first games game play, then you would love this game play. If you hated the first games game play, you would hate this, as this does virtually nothing to the game play from the first one. So while the game play is truly nice (in my opinion), it's not at all a real improvement from the first game, and is by no means near a masterpiece level of game play.

However the biggest issue with this game isn't it's game play, but its story. Its hard to discuss this games story without spoiling anything, but I'm going to try. This game has an awful story. Obviously, thousands of people disagree, which is fine. We are all allowed to have our own opinions. However every place that compliments this games story and certain aspects, I can find counter examples of what they call so amazing. This games story contradicts itself, introduces several deus ex machinas, mcguffins, and is extremely heavy handed in what it's trying to tell. You get a lot of nameless faceless enemies even though the game is meant to show you that there are no nameless faceless enemies, and so on. This in and of itself isn't the biggest hit against the game. The biggest hit against this game, is the connections between people. In the first game you had such amazing and significant connections between characters. And everyone who played it felt it, that's why that game had universal praise. This game following it is like Jak 2 following Jak and Daxter. You can't fault people for being overly critical of a game the is a complete departure of the previous. The example I provided is even more glaring, because Jak and Daxter wasn't a universally praised masterpiece, meaning when the departure happened more people were willing to accept it's new traits. This game however, departs from a masterpiece, and it just falls short.

So to surmise, given the predecessor of this game does not hold up to me. I platinumed the game, and I wasn't even happy when I did it. There was no happiness when I finally beat the game. I remember being excited to finish it so I could do something else. That feeling itself is enough to justify my score of 5/10.

I loved TLOU and the Left Behind DLC, basically because they combined great graphics, sound and gameplay with compelling storylines. The good first: TLOU2 is hands down the best looking and sounding game on PS4. Props to those guys for raising the bar to a standard that won't be met again until the PS5. There's great action scenes in TLOU2: riding and shooting, chilling boss encounters and creepily dark rooms full of clickers etc. I would say 10/10 for Graphics and sound and a solid 8 for gameplay, which is basically the same as in TLOU part 1. But the story is just such a jumbled mess. Characters making decisions that are completely out of character, new characters you don't give a **** about, an unnecessarily jumbled timeline with needless flashbacks and cutscenes that just seem to drag on forever (and you actually have to click/walk through to add to the tedium). To top it all off, an underlying message of "Revenge is bad, nobody's really good" that is layered onto it so thickly throughout the game, like the cheap cheese on a Subway sandwich. Likewise: it nastily clings to your palate and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. When you finally come to the (equally illogical) ending of it all, you just don't give a **** anymore about any of the characters. This franchise is ruined by the ridiculous messaging so obviously pushed by the lead storyteller. And I'm not talking about LGBT representation, something most fans like me are completely cool with and was masterfully done in the Left Behind DLC. I'm talking about the typical post-modern crap: the "lol-nothing-matters, everything is morally gray, there is no good and bad" trope that pervades the writing and makes it indeed impossible to feel anything real for any of the characters, because they act like most people would never do, even under these stressful circumstances. At the end of it all, I was just left with the biggest "Meh" ever and was glad that I didn't have to go though endless cutscenes and backstory on characters I don't give a ish about anymore. Druckmann really needs to take the L on ruining a great franchise. If ever there is a Part 3, I hope the whole writing/storyboard team that did this gets the boot first. He's now accusing everyone critical of the abysmal story as being bigots etc., where apart from the usual pathetic trolls, most ppl are just genuinely pissed about a story with truck-sized plotholes and him pissing over every character from the original franchise. Sorry about the review turning into a rant, but I've looked forward to this game so much and like many, had the experience completely ruined by this lame story. So 0/0 for the story and a big FU for Druckmann for ruining what should've been game of the year for me. Expand

For a game that focuses on narrative... it tanked. They jumbled the characters and the narrative so much to where the plot just became predictable and boring. I was a huge Ellie fan from the 1st game and the DLC. They ruined her character. And for half the game you have play as Abby whom I didn't want to play as because she was a dull character compared to Joel and Ellie. I almost gave it a 6 here, but I realized I'm never going to play this game again, but I'm not going to bomb the review of the game either because it was a horrible game. It was a normal game.

There was a lot of controversy surrounding this game so let it be clear regarding the context to my thoughts: I am a young woman, I was a massive fan of the first game, and I saw exactly no leaks, attempting to block out the negativity and listen to Naughty Dog and Druckman, who insisted it would all be worth it. It wasn't worth it. I was not satisfied after playing this game. I felt actually worse off playing it. It has spoiled the franchise a little bit for me really. The only thing I knew for sure was that thered be another playable character. First let's state the obvious. The game looks absolutely phenomenal. There no denying that. Also at least for me I didn't have any sort of bugs or glitches in my playthrough, that's another plus. The voice acting was top tier. However, for me the story just didn't work. Im not going to sit here complaining about narrative choices that the developer made. Be it Joel's death or the lengthy play time as abby. They can do whatever it is they want with it. That being said it doesn't mean I have to enjoy it or have fun playing it and I didn't. Personally I feel I would have enjoyed the story more if it was a tv series or movie as opposed to a game. It just didn't have that same "something " that the first game did. Ultimately I play video games to have fun and this game just isn't fun. Clearly its not meant to be and that's ok. Its just not for me. Expand

As most of disappointed players I can complain mostly on scenario.
    - Killing Joel in such way was simply wrong
    - So brutal revenge on Joel after so many years (as Abby) is also weird
    - from my perspective this game would be very short, because as Abby I would killed Ellie and Tommy after Joel's dead, because why keep alive two people which are close to person which We brutally killed in front of they eyes - that's cruel and stupid.
    - First half of Abby's campaign is simply boring and took me over a two week to move forward. During that time we are playing as person which We don't like or even hate... later this slightly changed because of more action.
Main characters make stupid, unlogic choices during the game.
That story have also some good sides - player can compare/confront both sides during whole game and try understand reasons whey Abby/Ellie make their choices. Lev story was interesting at some point.

In my opinion - whole scenario is, let say... original, but original doesn't mean it's good and scenario writer lead this game in wrong direction - this is not a "hate", that's only my opinion.
Game is very popular and make a lot of noise in the games world, but that's not mostly a "good noise" and financial success is based only because a lot of people(including me) waited for this game almost half decade after amazing first game.
Writer let window open for Part 3, but I'm sure that will not be such successful opening like Part 2. I'm not even sure that TLOU IP can be saved after Part 2...

Naughty Dog!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's only one thing that really hinders this game. The story. Everything else is excellent. The voice acting, the graphics, just the over all execution of the technical side is pretty great. I am a big fan of the first game, and i liked the simplicity of the crafting. The stealth left some to be desired but I never looked at it as a straight stealth game.

The story is.. Its just ham handed in how they try to get you to care even an ounce about the characters from the outside perspective. These characters literally come into your home in the beginning and bludgeon you're beloved character to death. While i sincerely believe their reasons why they did it, as a fan of the first game and the main characters I simply wanted one thing and that was to kill those people (in game duh). I wanted nothing to do with them but for them to suffer and be scared I was coming for them. This is not what we got. We play as them and the game gives us all these nice and caring perspectives and all the reason why they think we should like the character Abbey but really. I couldn't care less about her and her journey. I wanted nothing to do with her or her friends. I loathed the entirety of her side of the game play. I do not know what drove the writers/creators to go this route but I just can't wrap my head around why they did it. Why did they think this was a good move?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics, game play and acting are amazing, I think the game suffers from an inconsistency between the promise and the pay off. I took the promise as revenge, but they attempt to substitute the payoff but don't stick the landing.

I believe they attempted to make me want a forgiveness payoff by showing me the costs of revenge, but while I came to care about Abby, I never cared enough about her or her friends to compare to Ellie/Tommy's satisfaction of taking revenge. Take Mel, who I found pretty unlikable in “the other person” role to Abby (who is also “the other person” so there are no winners) and didn't have much of a personality. I felt bad when she died because she was pregnant, not because I liked her. I became more, not less, okay with it during Abby’s story, since I liked her less as I got to know her. I feel like the game wanted me to not want anyone to die but I only cared about Ellie’s friends, Lev and Yara.

I feel like the forgiveness pay off didn’t stick since they didn’t tease it throughout the story. To me, it doesn’t fit Ellie’s character arc to let Abby go, even if they have players frustrated approval by making us sufficiently depressed by the end fight and presented Abby as having suffered enough. Particularly since the Joel flashback didn’t coach against revenge, just showed that Ellie was ready to forgive Joel. Forgiving Joel doesn’t necessarily impact Ellie and Abby’s story. If anything, it should piss Ellie’s character off more since she never got to rebuild with Joel and rarely forgives.

I feel like they criminally underutilized Joel and gave him a poor death that made Abby irredeemable in the players eyes. I had nowhere to put how much I hated that Joel was dead, except to point that at Abby. That then makes it unsatisfying to end up caring about Abby since you know you don’t want to, particularly since not caring would make like 15 hours of gameplay boring and frustrating. I feel like they could’ve made it grey by having something like Joel saving Abby when she’s coming to kill him, and he gets bitten in the process. Abby then not wanting to kill Joel since he saved her. Then Abby or Ellie (for maximum depressive effect) kill Joel at his request. Then Tommy and Ellie get blinded by rage at Abby for creating the situation and have to process Joel's death and unintentional sacrifice through the story. At least that way there would be some decent reason that he was dead and that killing Abby would negate Joel’s sacrifice. It also wouldn't make the player want to hate Abby. Could even have them make up and work together in a climax against Wolves, Scars and Infected all fighting at once. That might’ve delivered players the forgiveness substitution and capitalized on it for an awesome final battle.

In my opinion, the general story stumbles at the start, with Joel's death lacking meaning or build up, and I was unsatisfied to see that they didn’t build on it with flashbacks. The idea of Ellie’s revenge story is satisfying but they quickly get the threads tangled with Dina’s pregnancy, Jesse being back in the picture, trying to save Tommy, and hunting down the group that killed Joel. It seems like the first act pay off they finally settle for is “life is complicated and gets in the way”. Which is true, but it shouldn’t mean that they don’t satisfy story points. It’s also a lame climax.

I get that the game is supposed to be a difficult story, but tLoU was difficult and satisfying. Likable, if tortured, characters had meaningful relationships and lived their stories in a way that was satisfying because it fit their character. Joel became the father we always wanted him to be as positive payoff, and had the hospital breakout as the consequence. Ellie grew to love and trust someone as positive payoff, and accepts Joel’s lie as the consequence. That’s classic “yes but..” storytelling.

I think tLoU2 suffered with too many weak arcs. What was Jesse’s arc? Seems like he’s just in there to be a decent bloke and then die for dramatic effect. Tommy wants Abby dead, fails, so sends Ellie years later when revenge has cost him his health and marriage. That’s not much of an arc. Ellie was revenge driven, then moves past it, then can't move on, and then seemingly moves on for no reason other than player payoff. Abby grows to understand that Scars are people too (a fight we don’t really have a bone in) then gets tortured for Joel/revenge unrelated reasons.

The game promised me that Abby would pay for Joel’s death. Then didn’t show character progression to realize that promise. Then attempted a payoff substitution without putting in the work with arcs. Just making sense to the player isn’t enough, actions that don't fit a character's arc are unsatisfying. It all seems to contradict the bold choice in tLoU, to be given the ending that the arcs take you to. Kinda feel like they missed why tLoU was so satisfying

But the story is where it falls apart, it doesn't fit something that should have mass appeal, I feel like the story was written for a niche group of people that like artsy(?) miserable stories, which is why I think it got so much backlash.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let’s address the elephant in the room first: there’s little doubt that this game’s prominent LGBT characters have led many professional reviewers to rate this game much higher than it deserves. My problem with this game isn’t that the playable characters are all women, or that it has LGBT characters. My problem is that the game is too long (around 25 hours), but the gameplay is not challenging or varied enough to keep it interesting.

The appeal of Last of Us was the story: the relationship between Joel and Ellie. The gameplay was OK, not great, but the game only lasted 12 or so hours. This game is double the length, and retains all the same core gameplay elements as the first one. About 15 hours in, it just started to feel tedious. Another abandoned building to search for supplies, another group of infected or human enemies to fight using the same tactics. There’s almost no variety here. The story is OK, but nowhere near as compelling as the first. A big reason for this is that half the game is spent as the new character, Abby. There’s no getting around the fact that we simply don’t care about her as much as we do Ellie. In addition, the human groups in this game are thinly sketched. There is very little information on how these groups formed, their purposes/intents/beliefs, why they are fighting each other, etc. It’s all very vague and very thinly sketched. One group seems to be vaguely power-hungry, the other a bunch of religious zealots whose beliefs are barely explored at all beyond vague gesturing to their “prophet.” This religious group is also the hook for the introduction of the trans character: the trans character was a member of the religious group, but fled because they wouldn’t accept her. That’s about as uncompelling, standard Hollywood fare/boilerplate as you can get. It

It seems clear now that Last of Us should have been a standalone game. It did not need a sequel and this game is nowhere near as interesting as the first one. My advice would be, don’t waste your time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's no denying that this game deserves all the plaudits it can get from a technical perspective. Sound design, graphics, animation and the combat is exceptional. For that, the team deserve to be congratulated.

However, the story is another matter. It's clear that it must have suffered at the hands of the politics at play here. Originally, when others were slamming the gay, female-led story before it had even come out (!), I was up there defending it - stating it didn't matter - that the story is what matters and if the story is good, who cares what a characters persuasion is.

But that's the problem - it's NOT a good story. It's just - dull. Ellie has turned into a lean, mean killing machine. There's a body count here higher than Hot Shots Part Deux. There's little, other than the killing of Joel, to support just how angry she's become. There's also little choice - particularly in areas where choice should matter. For example, in one of the final confrontations - I didn't WANT to attack Abby. I wanted to let her off - like she did Ellie. However I wasn't allowed to make that choice.

The writing is also lazy. So much so, they squeezed in as much of the current zeitgeist as they could muster. Again, if it was relevant to the story then sure - go ahead. But it's clear that it's been injected into it to make it relevant.

It's also way too long. It took me 30 hours to complete it. I was done with it by 16. It's repetitive, way too much in the way of boring cutscenes (the farmhouse family skit towards the end was just too much), and when Ellie sets off again I actually got annoyed.

I'd actually completed the first part just before the 2nd came out (never had enough time), so for me the first was very, very fresh. The only part of the 2nd game I actually enjoyed the story was Abby's - seeing if from her perspective, how the couples' rampage across the US affected her. That's about it though.

I'd say borrow it from a friend. Experience it, but don't be surprised if you give up at the 14-16 hour mark. You're in it for the long haul, but sadly those extra hours won't make a damn bit of difference to the story.

In addition to the ill-organized plotline, the game makes very blatant depiction of excessive violence that I do not believe is necessary. Some of the scenes could be very disturbing, to the extent of "grotesque". Though it is justified by the restricted rating, I would not recommend something as violent as this to anyone I care about.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us has some pretty good high value here and there for a medium that is often pretty poor. From excelent uses of color in dramatic moments (the red room, the camera tricks in the last phase) to dramatically powerfull symbology and use of recorrent images. I cannot deny that the team behind it did some astouding work in some regards, but it is also undeniable that those good feats are more due to talented individual artists (that unfortunatelly were not well paid during production) than of any concrete/ well organized vision.

Videogame storytelling is still strugling to be respected in counterpart to its movie and literature brothers, and the last of us is not a good example of one that stands out from the crowd. The game suffers from just too many poor editing choices (the game is to long, and there are scenes that could have really won with a good editor) and plotholes that easily make any telespectator lose his suspension of disbelief. But even if those more ''technicall'' dificulties of production were removed (there was no need for the false ending) the story itself does not bring nothing new to the table. Sure, the idea of playing as the villain you were initially hunting can open interesting new possibilities, but the overall message is still a shallow ''Vengeance is bad''. There are many stories that speak of such themes with more interesting lens, and as a screenwriting undegraduate I can atest that this sort of metaphor the game proposes is a common mistake with beginners.

To conclude: the last of us part 2 really needed a editor. It would have made the game greatly superior to what it is now (there is a reason why Holywood has diferent editors for everything possible) but even them, it is not really a outstanding work on its own, and there are games/literature/movies that perform this sort of vision in a more nuanced and innovative way.

This game doesn't live up to the first one at all. I found myself checking to see how many chapters I had left, because the story just wasn't keeping my attention. The Last of Us will always be one of my favorite games and Ellie one of my favorite characters. I think I'll just let Part II get dusty on the shelf and replay the original to remind myself of everything I loved about it.

Never written a review before but felt compelled to write one for this game. I did not enjoy my experience with Last of Us 2. I did not enjoy my experience with Last of Us 2. This is a purely objective analysis and not rage at the mishandling of characters or whatever. First, the good. The game looks phenomenal. Combat is tense and exciting especially early on. TLOU2 is at its best when you are ducking and weaving in and out of buildings and hiding under tables.

The rest of the game unfortunately falls short. The game is broken down into two activities. You're either walking around looking for scraps or engaged in combat. This loop gets repetitive since the game is quite long. Combat is slow and methodical so it eventually begins to drag till you throw stealth out the window and just start beating everything with a bat. It's also a bit easy. I played on the hard difficulty and found melee to be laughably overpowered.

I suppose Last of Us is more about experiencing the story, the world, and the characters. Sadly, the story is dull. The characters are extremely unlikable, and nothing really happens. It's just a series of events strung together on the basis of one plot point.

I played the first game and hold it in high regard. I'll be honest, i got 15 hours in on this one and couldn't handle anymore. I was just so bored I ended up deleting it from my console with no intention of going back

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly, TLOU2 deserves 6 but one of the most important person's death undercuts 1 point all alone. Pros of TLOU2 are graphics and the playability/style of the game. Graphics are amazing. I am pleased about the playability. You really feel punching, stabbing, killing, taking revenge or caring people in the game. Atmosphere of the game is good. Playability and graphics combined are really good as RDR2 or maybe GoW series. Sounds, npcs, communication of npcs, darkness or lightness of sections, fighting etc make you pleased. They are all good for Naughty Dog. But, cons are very bad. All of pros of the game sinks because story is very poor. When I played TLOU, I loved Joel. I really developed empathy with Joel. We saw the story of Joel and Ellie. We waited for the last section of the game which is plot of the story. I was not bored. Also the storyline of TLOU was not boring and it built up the plot of the game. It was helpful to understand the choice. Actually I think story of TLOU is better than playability. In TLOU2, it becomes reversed. I will draw attention to some points. We meet Abby in TLOU2. Abby has a story. Abby is a protagonist in TLOU2 and this story affects our game experience. Because of her story we lost an important person. It is a concious choice of Mr. Druckmann. I dont like it. TLOU affects GoW series. They adapted daughter/son-father road story, they go from somewhere to somewhere. You follow them and somethings come up. You fight and kill and escape and run. End of the story/game, you should be pleased because of game experience. One of initial section, the person is killed by the new person and you are shocked. TLOU's sole developed empathy figure for me is dead. I really do not understand this choice. OK. You are in revenge stories. I do not empathy Abby or other people. Druckmann does not succeed and i also think it is concious choice. But, I saw this in game all the way, someone has revenge story, someone kills somebody, we saw teeneger love stories, someone has revenge story because of death of somebody, someone goes across the states, they fought and there goes nothing. This storyline has no interest for me. We found a child in this chaos, Lev. This child is a kind of Ellie from TLOU and Abby is a Joel figure. But, in TLOU, we saw Joel lost his daughter and then he met Ellie. Road story of them makes us felt empathy. We understood one by one of their stories with feelings. We hugged them. But, in the Abby and Lev situation, i did not. Story does not work. Ok, Abby is a caring person and Lev is a sibling for her, but that is it. No more understanding, no more feeling. I just played TLOU2. That is one of the worst choice of story. I must understand them, I must feel so much things, I wish that I like Abby, Lev and Abby - Lev siblinghood because of story and storyline. Second of worst choice of story is brutality for nothing sometimes. For instance, we found someones and we want to help them for what reason. This section of stories we killed 50 people for 1 person because we want to help. The theme of TLOU2 is love is the most important thing, love is precious, life of person is important so i must help him. But we killed hundreds. This, my friends, is ludonarrative dissonance. Also check ludonarrative dissonance. Story wants to help us understanding the theme, but gameplay wants lots of death. This is a contradiction. It does not help the game, on the contrary, it makes the game bad. I am really feeling awful. I replayed TLOU because of story. I loved the game because of story. Gamers loved TLOU because of story. In the end, they have no choice to screw up the story and storyline. But they achieved it. Thank you Druckmann.

I have no problem Abby, Lev or killing Joel in the story, yeah I have to say it. Really. But if you kill Joel , you have to build up something too good. We just saw killing instead of very good storyline. We saw ludonarrative dissonance. They are not in a fantasy world, they want to make a realistic world as they can. Like Lara Croft, we played as powerful girl and if we are in a danger, we can kill the bad people or hit and run from the situation. In Tomb Raider series, we faced tough situtions, We fought thugs. Because they are bad people in the game. For example, in TLOU2, we left our team for saving Lev and we object Lev's commune. Because Lev is in a danger, Lev will be killed so I (Abby) have to save Lev. This is ok, this is a good reason. Abby's team and Lev's commune clashes. But we killed so much people at that moment. Those people also are someone's a father, mother, sibling or relative in ridicilous way. Not good.

Also, TLOU2 does not highlight SJW or LGBTI +. Ellie and Dina have a relationship which is very good one and they have a very cute baby. This is normal. And then some jerks said Abby is transgender individual, so it is wrong. Evils are evils. I did not feel disturbed and I don't mind any of things. I think TLOU2 has not that kind of a goal.

0 for the plot holes, disgusting ending and dumb choices by the characters.

First of all, i want to say that The Last of Us is for me the best game i’ve ever played, i’ve never been so attached for characters like i was for Joel and Ellie, and the union of their relationship, the story, and the soundtrack, is just perfect for me, it’s the first game which made me cry. And i also want to say that i first played this game this year, 2 weeks before Part II... yeah,First of all, i want to say that The Last of Us is for me the best game i’ve ever played, i’ve never been so attached for characters like i was for Joel and Ellie, and the union of their relationship, the story, and the soundtrack, is just perfect for me, it’s the first game which made me cry. And i also want to say that i first played this game this year, 2 weeks before Part II... yeah, luckily i’m not the old fan who waited 7 years. So i pre-ordered The Last of Us Part II because i really wanted to see a sequel for Joel and Ellie journey...
I finished Part II twice and got platinum trophy, i played it for 65 hours in total.
Lets get to my opinion, and some facts about the creation of the game.

Graphics: 10/10 The graphics are really good, there’s not a lot of improvements since Uncharted 4 but it’s better, one of the best looking games of the generation.

    Gameplay: 10/10
Personally, i really like The Last of Us gameplay, specially with Ellie and her switchblade, it’s basically the same gameplay of the first game but with some improvements.

    Acting and Voice Acting: 10/10
Really well done, Ashley Johnson as Ellie and Laura Bailey as Abby did a great job on their actings.

    Sound Effects: 10/10

    Soundtrack: 8/10
Gustavo Santaolalla is a brilliant composer, this game’s soundtrack is really great but it’s still not better than the original.

    Environment: 9/10
Places like Seattle and Santa Barbara are beautiful in this game, there’s a huge amount of details. And i really like the apocalyptic scenario and the nature on the city.

    Story: 5/10
The beginning with Joel was great and let me even more hyped, but then he is killed on the first 2 hours, the scene was forced, but i did cry when Ellie went to his house... So they did it, they killed the main character, but i had respect for Naughty Dog, they’ve never disappointed me before and seeing the great games they’ve done, in my mind Part II just couldn’t be bad, so after Joel’s death, i kept playing and really enjoyed, i really liked the game until Seattle Day 3 with Ellie, and her flashbacks were the best part of the game, so after this, it starts the Abby part, uninteresting and boring, i mean, her playthrough is more interesting since her story is not just a typical revenge, and also the Rat King battle is with her, but Abby and Lev is the new Joel/Ellie but poorly written and not nearly as captive, they forced me to like Abby but it’s impossible.
When i finished it i was just filled with disappointment and emptiness, after playing half game with Abby i was bored and the ending is unsatisfactory, i’ve seen a lot of sad ending in games which were really well done and made me feel, but this one is not just bad, it’s empty and pointless, the story makes you feel miserable, and forces you to like Abby and hate Joel and Ellie by their actions
The same story could be better if told in another way, and if we played just with Ellie.
And i was aware of some spoilers like Joel’s death, but it’s not because Joel will die that the game will be bad, the things gets really worse after that... Characters: 4/10
There’s a lot of uninteresting new characters in this game, they’re not as nearly well written as the Uncharted and The Last of Us characters and also the old characters are completely different in this game just to fit the script.

    Overall Score: 5/10
The game is focused on the story, which let me really disappointed and as a sequel of The Last of Us is just a forgettable story with forgettable characters, but if this game wasn’t a sequel it wouldn’t be this bad.
The game is the Neil Druckmann’s point of view of Joel’s actions, he never liked Joel because of his actions and always wanted to get this character out of the story, so if you have strong feelings about Joel and Ellie relationship don’t play the game, but if you agree with Druckmann political opinions or don’t really have feelings for Joel and Ellie, you probably will like this game.

This game’s story absolutely sucked. Its not what the first game was. Instead of following a relationship that set the story, it feels like I’m watching a movie, which is not good. Its like the characters read a script and acted out their roles perfectly. The game’s ending hurt even more since not only did I hate Ellie by the end of it, it was the equivalent of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst’s ending, where you technically didn’t accomplish **** I know the message is revenge is bad, but that’s a damn lie. I never had any consequences when I seeked revenge, and I always got my revenge, so Ellie ain’t **** compared to me (I like to make jokes.) Now, can we talk about how the game tried to push an agenda? I don’t play games to be taught a lesson or have something pushed to me, I play to have fun (or I guess not fun, but engaging since Naughty Dog banned the word fun) but this wasn’t fun at all. I don’t care if its story driven, I just want a good time, and this game just left me wondering if Naughty Dog would ever come back from it.

I would have preferred a relative of Marlene from the first game hunt down Joel, not a daughter of a very minor character from the first game. When the audience considers the carefully written character arch from the first game, any character in part two that kills a character from part one should be immediately be made a villein. Like i said before if this was the beginning to a new IP for ND the story would have made you ask the questions it intended to ask. However, after the death of Joel, that person became the bad guy. Where the story fails is in its persistence to make Abby (lady that killed Joel) seem to be a hero. When in reality most the audience members believe her to be wickedly evil for brutally murdering him in front of his only living daughter. the reason this game get a four is for the amount of detail, polish, and overall finish the game appears to have in every aspect but the story. And with ND games Story is half the rating. In summary the story of part two disgraces the first game all the while maintaining a very good game play experience throughout the entire game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Greetings from Russia.

I quitted playing video games 4 years ago due to work and lack of time. The last thing I played was the first part of TLoU and as 99% of all us I loved the characters and the game itself, every time I remember its plot and my gaming experience of It I get warm feelings in my heart. As soon I finished the first part, sold my PS 3 I decided to 100% buy a new upcoming console to play TLoU 2 when it comes out, I haven’t thought about and waited for other games than TLoU 2 since then.

August 2020, I am old as **** 26 years, childhood and uni years are far away from where I am now, responsibilities, bills to cover, work that I do not enjoy. Anyway, I specially took a vacation for 3 weeks, bought the latest Sony 4k screen and PS 4 Pro - TLoU 2 edition. Unboxing felt so amazing, I got tears in my eyes for such a sentimental moment, the kid that slept inside me for years was so happy.

The start of the game is great, the graphics are amazing and I feel so excited to be back with the characters that lived in my heart for all these years: Joel and Ellie. I expect that for the next couple of days there will be only me and their new adventure, no outer world, but me reflecting on the cool plot twists, dying supporting characters and the **** realistic human nature at the time of the crisis.

I saw trailers with Ellie laying down in blood,
she promises to kill ‘em all and I was 100% sure that she will take revenge for her new girlfriend. As most of you I was so shocked that Joel is was being killed so ruthlessly and the first signs of the emptiness inside started to echo my heart. The fact that I played for Abby in the beginning was not a coincidence and I prayed that I wouldn’t have to do it again later in my walkthrough. Next 11 or 12 hours were great. I didn’t have any feeling of mercy while killing dogs and screaming friend’s names people because to the same extent as Ellie loved Joel, same did I and I wanted to take revenge and hoped everything is finished with the death of this ugly Abby character, i don’t buy this ‘eye for an eye and the world is blind’ thing, all of us in such conditions as Ellie are able to kill for our beloved ones and don’t regret while taking revenge.

But it went as it went and when after a cutscene in the theatre the control is given back to Abby I realized that the next 11-12 hours I must learn her side of the story, play for her and feel sorry for her because I knew that the game requires 25 hours in total. The problem is I DON’T GIVE A **** ABOUT HER STORY, MOTIVATION, FRIENDS, FATHER, BOYFRIEND, DOG, HULK HANDS, FEELINGS, VOICE AND SO ****ING ON. All those people deserve to die. So the game after this becomes some kind of a torture untill the very last levels where Ellie is back at your control, the boy with arrows as a partner of Abby causes more sympathy than her, but he is not a ‘game changer’.

In the end Ellie doesn’t kill Abby, she leaves her to go and comes back to the house left by her stupid girlfriend.

TO SAY THAT I WAS PISSED IS TO SAY NOTHING. JUST SIMULTANEOUS EMPTINESS INSIDE MY HEART. Even when I walke through the first Ellie’s half of the game for the second time. Expectations that lasted for several years were ruined and I drank 2 bottles of vodka not because I am Russian on the vacation, I drink once in 2-3 months, but to silence the pain caused by the plot of the TLoU 2.

5 vodkas out 10, now I need to sell my PS 4 Pro and hope that in 7 years I ll be still there to play PS 5 PROTURBOMEGADRIVE HD THE LAST OF US PART 3 ABBY **** BURNS IN HELL LIMITED EDITION. Stay strong comrades.

The world design and attention to detail is outstanding and deserves all the praise. Gameplay is a little weak, many missed opportunities to utilise Ellie's immunity by incorporating it into the combat. The story is poorly written, the characters are bland and inconsistent. The characters feel like a puppet to the narrative rather than driving the plot forward themselves. The sequence of events are poorly managed and remove from the climax. All together, the story comes off as pretentious and trying to preach a narrative that it doesn't believe in itself Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with the good stuff. this game looks amazing, sounds amazing and plays smoothly. transitions are handled well and the use of the camera to show the game world and set the scenes is well executed.

there's plenty to like, being in that world again, discovering more about it and the characters in it. the gameplay is fun though a bit comic, even on hard you have plenty of time before detection and both characters are basically rambo which just feels kinda wrong.

Many things don't make sense in the Last of Us Part II. below I'll refer to a small part of them.

Sadly, it fails right out of the gate (yes, Joel. the how of it not the why). I kept playing and being excited hoping things will make sense or be more meaningful later on. it didn't pan out. the game kept forcing me to accept what it presented me with but it never sold me on it.

By the time I got to play Abby (after the initial intro) it was all very obvious. Playing her just made her seem more of an ass to me.

she has this revenge goal that survives everything she has gone through sine that day, which seems odd considering how immediate and deadly life is in the game. she has the life of a soldier fighting for the WLF, she has relative safety and comfort. the WLF is presented like this well off para-military organization. their beef with the scars makes less sense considering both groups and the world they are in.

in short, it seems like Abby (that voice, lol) went out of her way to gather a group of people to go trek across the country, leaving their current group the WLF, to go brutally murder the person who murdered her father and triggers a series of events that sees most of the new characters in the story dead.

another thing that stood out was the whole Ellie is this crazy revenge driven girl now with an amazing ability to straight up murder everything in her path except when the plot needs her to be this child who didn't actually mean to hurt anyone. her conviction falters for no good reason.
her losing her fingers in the final fight was another "punch" to who she portrayed as for most of the game and I can only assume it was done to again shock players with a "twist" and "really" sell their point as the guitar scene shows later.

I got no problem with the concepts or even Joel's death in the very beginning (except how he dies) or with how silly characters act and how outside their character they seem to act but I do got a problem with being force-fed a story and being "told" how to feel by the game.

That is only part of how a great looking game with awesome sound design, music, characters and a lot of effort can fall flat trying to deliver the story which to me is the *main* selling point and the reason to play.

I give it a 5 because in many categories this game is a masterpiece. The graphics are great, the music is heartwarming, and the gameplay has been improved. But the story is bad, it doesn't compare to the story of the first game, it doesn't capture its tone or mood.

The first game had sadness, desolation and melancholy ... but also hope, there were gray scenarios but also colorful

The first game had sadness, desolation and melancholy ... but also hope, there were gray scenarios but also colorful scenarios. This new game does not have that mixture, everything is gray and violent, perhaps with the exception of the flashbacks, but they do not fit perfectly.

Druckman made a risky decision and he failed. He made decisions without limits (for example Bruce Straley) and he did not tolerate any criticism that told him that his decisions were not in the right way (from the Nuaghty Dog workers themselves neither from the testers). Directors like Druckman are successful once, but not always (because no worker will tolerate those conditions).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ve played last of us part 1 a numerous amount of times and it’s easily one of my favorite games of all time. Therefore, my excitement for this game was through the roof, I couldn’t wait to finish where the first game left off. However, the approach they took in telling this story in part 2 is absolutely terrible. The story is unnecessarily convoluted and pointless. What made last of us part 1 beautiful was it’s simplicity and the evolving relationship between Ellie and Joel. But for insanely strange reason, they completely destroyed what made the first game so beloved. I still can’t believe they deviated from what the first game built up.There’s are so many issues with the story that I could go on for hours about but this is all I feel like typing. Expand

    Obra de arte, alucinante.
A mí modo de ver el primero fue el mejor juego de PS3 y este es el mejor de PS4. Una locura

The game is really nice, it has been made up to the smallest detail, but the story of the glory is very mediocre, it actually progresses well, but it has an end or it really sucks

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
