Congratulation Naughty Dog, you made your hetero-normative white girl, who is built like a dude, and her ex-boyfriend, a white male, your most compelling characters of the game.

Why do I rate this game 4/10? Because the protagonist, Ellie, is an utter bore and really a terrible person. That's fine if this is by design, but that is what impression she gives me. As much as I hate Joel's death, and that particular scene is pretty awful, and I don't just mean uncomfortable to watch, I mean the setup was lazy.

They say in fiction that the protagonist is the one who changes the most. Well, then your protagonist is Abby. Abby has a classical arc. She does a heel-face turn and shows some genuine heroic capacity. Ellie is angry and bitter the whole time, and her dialog with Dina is cringe-y. Whereas Abby has good conversations that move her character forward. Ellie and Dina just exchange YA romance novel bromides about their love. No hetero character in the history of gaming has ever obsessed as much about their love interest as in this game. It is mind-numbing. So that takes away a number of points.

The next big reason is that ND does an incredible job at rendering a post apocalyptic Seattle, but the game mechanics feel like they are stuck in 2013. Most of the lore has no depth. The war between the WLF and the Scars is filler, and is just there to provide two factions so that the co-protagonists have someone to kill other than the inexplicable number of infected that run around in a war zone. There are quite a few times when you think, "This just makes no sense."

There are a couple good infected moments, however, including one in the hospital basement that i particularly liked, but it was there for "boss" value, not because it was born out of story. So those are my reasons it didn't rate higher, terrible Ellie arc and dated gaming mechanics. Also, the scenes that take place after Seattle are terrible, and further my opinion that Ellie is just a terrible person.

The game failed in its attempt to tell a revenge story by ruining loved characters, giving no player agency and a disconnect between the gameplay conceits and the story.

The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the biggest disappointments of all time. I really loved previous Naughty Dog games. I gave Uncharted 2, for example, a full 10 because it was one of the outstanding games of the PS3 generation. I also enjoyed the first The Last of Us game, mainly based on the characters, story and world. Sadly, I can't say the same thing about the The Last of Us Part 2.

The Last of Us Part 2 has destroyed the franchise for me. I did not like what they did with the characters and narrative. And, unfortunately, I never thought the gameplay was all that enjoyable in the first game and it's mostly the same here. It wears thin for me. I just don't find it all that fun. So with a terrible narrative and characters, and average gameplay, all I'm left with is a very pretty game. But that isn't enough to make me want to continue playing a game. Most high end games these days look pretty damn amazing. Games now have to actually be enjoyable if they want to stand out and be held in great esteem by gamers.

Another thing I have to mention is that the game has very obvious woke messaging throughout it. I am so tired of being beat over the head constantly with this same political ideology in every form of entertainment media. And given the fact that this game will likely be played by many young people who aren't aware of the propaganda they are being fed it amounts to a kind of brainwashing. I think this is despicable and should be called out. Most gamers do not want any kind of overt modern political messaging in their games.

So, in the end I disliked the game for several major reasons: the poor narrative and characters, the average gameplay that I don't get much enjoyment from, and the fact the game is being used as a vehicle for specific political messaging. If Naughty Dog returns to what made games like Uncharted 2 so great I will gladly buy and play their next game. But if they continue down this path of being more concerned about shoehorning their political agenda into a game, instead of making sure it's a great game that can be enjoyed by a wide range of gamers, I will be avoiding their future releases.

*This game is a hate letter to fans of Joel and Ellie*

The Last of Us Part 2 is a betrayal. It undermines the beautifully ambiguous storytelling of the first game and dishonors what Joel and Ellie had to survive and endure. It takes these beloved characters and ruins them to hammer in that Abby was no worse than Joel, Ellie was no better than Joel, and Joel was a villain. In contrast, themes like revenge, violence, and forgiveness all ring hollow in this sadistic game.

Neil Druckmann has said he loves Joel and Ellie, but actions speak louder than words. Make no mistake, the Joel and Ellie fans loved from the first game are gone - one literally and the other all but in name. And while most of the fan hate focuses on what was done to Joel, it’s really Ellie who gets the worse treatment. The story Druckmann chose to write takes a tough as nails yet charmingly sarcastic and plucky girl and methodically breaks her, both psychologically and physically. It also makes the player complicit in this narrative with no choices, aside from simply not playing the game.

So, Naughty Dog tricked fans into participating in a beautifully produced snuff film and now wants praise for their audacity. Certainly, plenty of professional gaming journalists have done just that, along with allies of social diversity who may or may not have even played the game. To be fair, I can’t fault people too much since any critics run the risk of being labeled bigots and getting blacklisted. In fact, defending the game may even be a way of rationalizing what was done in hopes it wasn’t all for nothing, similar to how other fans might wish it was all just a fever dream.

If the choice is between a kind of Stockholm Syndrome or becoming depressed, all the false praise for TLOU2 makes a lot of sense. Seeing the sheer amount of mental gymnastics the defenders of this game are willing to perform is impressive. There’s no doubt what Naughty Dog did to their fans was both by design and rather clever. If there’s one defining zeitgeist of our times, it’s divisiveness. Also, they couldn’t have been given a better time to release than 2020. Truly, a masterpiece of malicious manipulation.

There’s just one small problem with Naughty Dog’s strategy - it seems to have alienated a significant portion of their fan base. What that means for the survival of the franchise and the developer only time will tell. But for Joel and Ellie’s sake, an old proverb comes to mind...

Instead, not only did we not get that, but the characters we fell in love with were destroyed, and this no longer feels like a post-apocalyptic game. The post-apocalyptic aspect of the first game is nothing but background noise in this sequel.
The story is atrocious. Pure SJW propaganda and nothing else.
Even Ellie's sexual orientation, that was treated as perfectly normal in Left Behind... they purposefully put an older white man in there just to call Ellie a "dyke". Do you think anyone would care about that in the TLoU world? They have bigger things to worry about. Stuff that actually matters.
This sort of stuff happens throughout the entire game.
And then they have the audacity to force Abby down our throats!
Oh man, I'll just stop here or else I never will.
The Last of Us did not deserve this. This writing team should be ashamed.

The first game had a great story throughout and mediocre gameplay that was kept interesting because of the chemistry between the characters. Part 2 has a poor story with slightly improved gameplay but very little chemistry between characters. Its not 'politcally charged' at all - those criticisms are bizarre to me.
The game, for me, is split in two halves with an epilogue.
The first half is very good. You play as Ellie and she really remains as the only character worth a damn.
The second half's story, however, is a terrible convoluted mess. Flashbacks within flashbacks trying to get you invested in shallow characters you already know the fates of. An 'alternate' tale from the perspective of another - essentially the antagonist but the game purposefully tries to blur the line between antagonist and protagonist - which tries to fill you remorse for glorified random NPC's you killed as Ellie. I didn't give a damn about anything this other story the game tried to tell. It was a painfully boring 12+ hours. If the game continued telling Ellie's story instead of this, it would have been much better.
Eventually the Ellie and the antagonist's stories catch up and we enter the ending sequence/epilogue. The ending is as underwhelming equally as underwhelming, leaving you with a feeling of pointlessness and frustration - if you do manage to feel invested at all.
Its a real shame. It had such promise around the 12 hour mark but instead of developing further it just dwells on events which it tries to force the importance of.
An uninspired, drawn out and irritating story in a story-focussed game makes this not worth a play, especially at full price.

First off the game looks absolutely amazing. If all you care about is looks this game will not disappoint.

The story is just OK as a stand alone game, but taking into account the first game the story falls flat as a sequel. The main cast is no longer likable and you will more then likely hate them by the end. The end is just terrible.

The fist game had its faults but so much could be overlooked due to the lovable cast. This one is brutal and does not have that in it.

We also get sequel baited? This game as a standalone game would be worth a buy, however it is not. ND made this a sequel to one of the most beloved new IP's ever. More was expected, and while I can say they took risks, one would have to say they failed.

    Pros:
    -Graphics
-Combat ; some hate it but I still enjoyed it very much, if you wanted an evolution you did not get it but you do not need to make changes for changes sake it fits the world very well.
    -Crafting system
    -Getting to play Ellie again
    -Voice actors are top notch
    Cons:
-New characters are not very likable, having to play someone who I hate after 2 hours of game play I did not find fun. Should of led with the second half where we learn about the history before you had the event I am talking about. Having me hate them and trying to get me to like them is so much harder then having us learn and fall in love with them first. It would of made the player think so much more about the events rather then **** this person" that I think most will feel.
-pacing is everywhere, to many switches
-way to long, the game could of been 12~15 hours just like TLoU 1
-Story is just not very good once you look at the first game.
-So many "Deus ex Machina moments": the number of times someone should of died and got out of it UGH. Please keep this to just a few times people!

This game is all about story. And it mostly fails at it. If this game had not been a sequel I could likely place it at a 7/10 Maybe an 8 even. But its not, the game does not respect the first game at all. It be like if Iron man 2 killed Tony off in the first 15 minutes then had Pepper go on a revenge story, become a total loser, and follow it up with the murderer becoming a "hero" or likable person at least.

If you want to get into the last of us IP start with The Last of Us 2. And follow it up with the prequel (the original Last of Us) You probably will enjoy the second and fall in love with the first.

I'll begin my review with a positive statement: I LOVED The Last of Us (Part 1). Everything about that game resonated with me on every tangible level. It was a tour de force. It was Naughty Dog's magnum opus. It was everyone's Game of the Year for 2013. I played the game on PS3 and then again on PS4 - twice in fact (my first playthrough, then a New Game Plus playthrough). What more needs to be said? I really, REALLY LOVED The Last of Us. Everything - from the characters, to the story, to the gameplay - and when I reached the ending, I felt something that no other game had quite made me feel before. In every sense of the word, The Last of Us is an exceptionally excellent masterpiece. And that is why it pains me to talk about The Last of Us Part 2.

After all the hype, the information spiels and red herrings, The Last of Us Part 2 is the second biggest let-down of 2020 (the biggest let-down of 2020 being Cyberpunk 2077). I knew fully well that the story would encompass the theme of 'Hate' to contrast the original game's theme of 'Love' - I thought that it would be interesting and might pay off in some way - but in truth, I never could have predicted how epically disappointing it would be.

I don't know what happened, but Naughty Dog took the theme of 'hate' and ran with it into 'uncharted' (pun intended) territory to a degree that made TLOU2's narrative grossly unlikeable and managed to alienate their fans. If anything, Naughty Dog took things WAY TOO FAR.

It was in the first 3 hours that Naughty Dog did the UNTHINKABLE IN A DISAPPOINTINGLY BAD WAY. I won't say what, but I was left feeling shocked, mortified, and simply insulted by such a blatantly BAD narrative decision that spits in the eyes of fans of the original TLOU and adds insult to injury in EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. It was after this moment that I simply lost the will to continue playing TLOU2, but I somehow managed - even though I deeply regretted every moment of it.

I can't talk about Joel (hint, hint), but I can talk about Ellie, and in all honesty I don't like how her character has changed since the first game. At the end of TLOU (and even at the beginning of TLOU2) Ellie is still relatively bright, despite her experiences. Right off the bat at the start of TLOU2, Ellie is UNLIKEABLE in every way - even going as far as to distance herself and not talk to Joel, not to mention being downright depressing. After THAT moment she just gets worse to the point where I didn't even recognise her at all.

Another issue is how TLOU2 ham-fistedly integrated political and social statements about LGBTQ aspects into it's narrative - so much so that I felt I was playing less of a videogame and more of a manifesto (to clarify I completely respect all LGBTQ rights and ideals). My point is is that the game could've integrated these aspects better and with more subtlety - instead the game chose to jump on the band wagon of woke culture by making these narrative elements OBVIOUS, even to the detriment of an already appalling story.

Another major negative is how the writers (Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross) handled the themes of 'hate' and 'grief'. Ellie is so hateful, even to the point where she doesn't think about the consequences of actions - a fact that Abby, the game's secondary protagonist and primary antagonist, is also guilty of. Throughout the story, things happen that SHOULDN'T happen. In actuality TLOU2's story is SO hateful, it turns the whole game into a TOXIC EXPERIENCE (do not mistake this with emotional catharsis).

I don't know where it all went so wrong (I actually think I just quoted one of the characters from the game), but Druckmann's nihilism got the better of him - (Halley) Gross' mentioning of the fact that she tapped into her personal experiences with PTSD while writing the story didn't help matters much either.

In terms of gameplay, TLOU2 moves things forward slightly. Yes, I'll praise the graphics and the animations, but all of that doesn't matter when the main story driving everything forward is so toxic and unlikeable (it actually makes playing the game a chore to see how horribly the plot moves forward). In actuality, TLOU2's gameplay feels more like an obligation instead of something lovingly and professionally crafted (unlike Naughty Dog's previous efforts). Gunplay feels sluggish, imprecise, and simply, not very fun, turning most firefights into frustrating ordeals. I remember aiming at a thug who was barely 5 metres from me and even with the reticule trained squarely and accurately on his head, I still managed to miss him somehow(!). Another nuisance is that Ellie can be stunned or easily knocked over which just further compounds my issues with TLOU2.

I don't know how TLOU2 won GOTY 2020 last year. It simply is a BAD GAME and a HORRIBLE SEQUEL that does things that no-one asked for. The only comparison I can think of is the recent Star Wars trilogy.

I nearly cried at some scenes, genuinely smiled at others, but after leaving, I left with no real impact from the game's messages and tone, mostly since it seems like a game that came out ten years too late with its "revenge and violence are never the answer" themes. If you wanted me to feel bad for killing the people trying to kill me, the right decision is to let me understand them through the eyes of the person they've hurt most, Ellie, and let me decide their fates.

What we have instead is a game that, at every turn, tells you that people must die to progress the story, then shifts focus in a shallow attempt at making you feel guilty for playing the game. Niel Druckman mentioned that this game wasn't meant to be fun. And truthfully, that is exactly true for this game, he hit the nail on the head. In that regard, he has my respect. But I am of the camp of people who firmly believe that players should have some input or incentive to play the game. If you do not make the game fun, people will stop playing. People will quit halfway through, and the story you've created would no longer matter, simply because there were more gripping stories out there, or more engaging games.

If you wanted to create a movie, then create a movie. But it isn't one I would want to watch. I'm a more grown person now, one who can appreciate many things about a game. But if I cannot have any fun in the supposed magnum opus, the greatest masterpiece of all time, then maybe it doesn't deserve to be called a masterpiece after all. It's flawed in story, gameplay, and even emotion. Because at the end of the day, I left it feeling completely thoughtless. It felt like a mediocre fanfiction. I can appreciate the game for what it's done on a standpoint of presentation and accessibility. But nothing beyond that.

In summary, The Last of Us 2 is a visual and auditory spectacle, but that's about all you're getting; spectacle. With how much blood is shed and guts are spilled, it's baffling how little this game shocked me with any plot beats or twists, or even in terms of its visual style. Truthfully, in a decade or so, this game's graphical achievements will be trumped by something else. And when that happens, it will fade into nothing but a memory for me.

Such a disappointment. I bought this game to see more of Joel and Ellie, which is what they sold the game as, and got some random NPC's story that I care nothing about. The gameplay and graphics are phenomenal, and I would like to give this a 7 or 8, but the Last Of Us is a game that's focused on the story and this story is just awful.

THIS IS A REAL REVIEW, I ACTUALLY FINISHED THE GAME.

I see a lot of people review bombing this game without actually playing it and talking about only what the leak talked about, which was true btw.

Graphics, they are about the same some details are fleshed out on the character but by the end of the game trees actually started to turn into brown logs with no texture.

Sound, not bad I can hear everything pretty well but nothing pop out at me.

Gameplay, This is where the game falls apart, besides the story. Biggest issue was the camera, it let you move it but shot you back to what the game wanted you to see. Example, I was trying to look at the sky at one point but the game decide to say, "Hey look at this wall you passed six times" and no there was no enemies on the other side. This becomes worse in combat when you dodge sometimes the camera swings to look at your face but now you cant see the opponent you're fighting.
Besides that the play style is the same except for the shives they took that out so now Ellie can sneak attack all she wants. That is until you play as Abby(the new character) then new enemies show up that require a shive.

Story, OK so, the leak is correct. Short Summary- Joel dies, new character joins(Abby), revenge, revenge, revenge. That's pretty mush it .
but lets flush some of it out. Joel dies yes which kicks off the whole adventure of revenge. that's right about 20mins in and he's dead. Ellie sets off to get revenge on 6 people with her girlfriend, yes Ellie is a lesbian, no her girlfriend is not Abby. and about this time Abby shows up but now you can play her turns out Abby is apart of the crew that killed Joel, so you play as the protagonist and the antagonist. Ellie gets her revenge on all but one, Abby. Until the end then you start the game over but from Abby's point of view but she has flashbacks, every damn time you finish a part its a flashback or flash forward depending on how stupid they want it to be and its all about Abby getting revenge for her dead friends. Once Abby's side is over you finally get to see the ending but you have to fight Ellie as Abby, then Abby says **** it I'm giving you your life bye". So that's the end? Nope now Ellie goes hunting again after some time has past but this time you fight Abby as Ellie. All this just to have both Ellie and Abby give up on revenge and go their separate ways.
Ellie loses her girlfriend because she couldn't stop sooner and Abby is now on the run from her group.

Overall, the Graphics aren't much to hold up since they are PS3 graphics still. Sound was present but I could have put on any music and it would have been the same. Gameplay was a mess with the camera going everywhere except where I want it to go right now and at times the Controls felt too different, one button jumps, one button crouches, one button snaps the camera back forward and if you're like me hitting to many buttons to quickly you find your self thrown into a wall 10 ft away and you need to figure out where you are now while getting shot at or mauled by 2 clickers and 4 stalkers. Story everyone already knows I just don't know why had to add on 5 more hours of filler and then 3 hours of conclusion for the conclusion.
4/10 wait for a big sale like 90% sale.

It wasn't the "gritty world". Or the gameplay, which was only slightly innovative at the time, but hardly the selling point of the game. It was the story and relationship between the characters. The dynamic of taking someone who had lost everything, and giving them something to hope for. To the point where they will sacrifice everything to save that person. The motivation is love, not hate. The sequel plunges you into hatred. Sure it's fine to explore that element, but doing so while destroying what people love is the wrong move. Just make your own game, a spin-off, a new franchise to explore those elements, don't hijack a franchise people love. You've hijacked the fans love of the characters to make a profit from pre-orders, and shat on the core audience that loved the original game. People don't dislike the game because Ellie is gay, or that there is a trans person (maybe some do, but **** em). We already knew about Ellie, fans played the expansion for TLoU where this is explored. It was great. It built our love for the character and her journey. We dislike it, because you destroyed the characters we love.

Instead of that i finished the game only to see Joel dying at the prologue out of nowhere from some uninteresting characters that doesn't mean anything to me because the story is so badly writen and executed that it doesn't even bother to make them shine.
So much sadness and misery for nothing and two beloved characters ruined.
This is not a good tribute to what made TLOU such an amazing game.
I would also like to mention the misleading and false marketing of the game that will never be forgotten.

I would have love to give it a 10, but the story was just God awful.

    1. Not as open world as it said, The world was plenty big enough...but in one direction really. If you went through the wrong door or dropped down at the wrong time you couldn't go back...so many times I didn't save I missed out on safes, and other loot because of this fact. You should be able to back track if needed.
    2. if you stealth killed an enemy, the others wouldn't know, but if you killed one away from the others with a punch or knife all the others would be alerted. Also some of the clickers would see you a lot of the times if you were in sight duck down and being quiet.
    3. Killing off your main protagonist was a very dumb move. Sure he did some awful things but they all did even Abby, And Abby had years to find out why it happen and cool down. Ellie's rage was warranted Abby's was not. Also taking two of Ellie's fingers was just dumb. I hope they can save this game with the the third one. Naughty Dog really miss the mark on the story big time.

But when it comes to the story, you already know. The way the new characters are executed makes them the least likable characters in the entire series, not only that, most of them are killed and forgotten right after the fact. By the time the game ends, you feel like the whole journey that was set up from the beginning was pointless, because there is absolutely no resolution to the plot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You may or may not have realized it by now, but Druckman was pushing his agenda heavily from the very start. The only reason TLOU1 succeeded was because he got lucky and made the story ambiguous enough for everyone else to fill in the gaps with a more appropriate interpretation of his story.

First off, I bet most of you never realized this, but even in the first game, there's a heavy skew in the gender representation, pushing the idea that female=good/competent, male=bad/selfish/controlling. Tess is the boss of Joel, and no matter what evil crap she may have done in the past, she gets a proper redemption arc, sacrificing herself to give Joel a shot at delivering Ellie to the Fireflies and "save humanity". Marlene is the leader of the Fireflies, the one beacon of hope for humanity. Maria is the leader of the only properly-functioning settlement and Tommy makes damn sure we understand that "she is in charge". Every other woman/girl in this story is at least strong, competent and likable.

    How about the male characters?

Joel is a jaded selfish sociopath, ex hunter and a veteran thug.

Tommy is a weak little man who followed Joel footsteps regardless of what his moral code dictated, ended up joining the fireflies but left the group later and retired happily as Maria's subordinate husband.

Bill is a nut-job angry loner, and after redeeming himself for helping out our duo, we figure out he's gay and that his partner hung himself after attempting to abandon him.

Henry is an uptight spineless control freak who scolded his little brother every time the poor kid enjoyed himself and who abandoned our protagonists when things got heavy. Killed himself immediately like a coward after executing (infected)Sam.

David (the only other leader of a group) is a pedo cannibal freak.

None of this takes away from the story of course, but it's kinda funny to notice now in retrospect.

In a silly attempt at subverting people's expectations (even in the first game) Druckman tried desperately to portray Joel's actions as selfish and self-indulging, while ignoring his own plot holes and poorly developed lore that led people to interpret the story differently. We mistakenly took a badly written plot of how the fireflies were going to save humanity and create a vaccine as proof of their incompetence. The rushed scenes at the hospital and the weakly developed firefly storyline gave everyone the impression that Joel has every justification to save Ellie from these clowns and kill everyone who stands in his way.

Druckman expected everyone to hate Joel for what he did, and the ending was suppose to weigh heavily on us. Instead, people cheered their escape and just felt a bit sad for having to lie to Ellie about what really happened. Nothing about Joel's actions screamed "evil man", but rather "broken father who couldn't bare to lose another daughter at the hands of some jack-holes who want to cut her head open and kill her in an attempt to develop a vaccine".

I'm sorry to say this guys, but it's all **** Druckman might be the luckiest **** ever. His failure to deliver the intended narrative actually elevated the story's quality, making his agenda driven little project one of the most famous games in gaming history.

This is just my theory, and I bet it's the reason why he doubled down in Part 2 to make sure we ALL UNDERSTAND that Ellie wanted to die in that hospital, that what Joel did was evil and twisted. For me at least, it all makes sense now. TLOU Part 2 is Druckman's pet project to set things straight and punish all of us who "didn't get it".

They chose to brutally demonstrate the consequences of a revenge cycle of spiralling misery. I can see how people who may never have lived through similar cycles and meditated upon their actions can find this truly educational, and possibly even life changing, if they were truly unaware of the ability for people to commit the worst evils in the name of love, and to become obsessed with revenge to the detriment of everything else in their life prior to playing this game.
I personally did not enjoy this game or learn any deep new messages. It was just brutal and painful and traumatic for a lesson i already knew. Play at your own risk, its not an enjoyable experience and left me feeling just empty and sad for what is left of a once loved character.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I decided to create an account just to review this game specifically. The divide between "professional" video game critics and your "typical" gamer is appaling and surreal. That's right, I'm looking at you IGN, AGAIN. Why in the world are the ratings so polarized? Are big video game critics afraid to go against a "progressive" game that make use of "non-traditional" protagonist in fear that they will trigger some media outrage? I am convinced big video game critics are pressured into a biased approach which unfortunately renders them useless. People don't trust big companies like IGN for video game reviews.

On a good note, the acting/voice acting was good. The technical aspect of the game was good as well. The art behind the game was amazing and stunning. Unfortunately, people don't usually play video game to stare at the amazing decor.

On a bad note, the game's story literally makes no sense. I have no idea what the writers behind this story were thinking. I don't give a damn about the fact that the game really tried to push this "SJW" ideology onto the player. Gay, trans, lesbian, man, woman, deer, I don't care what the character identify as. It's all fine by me and its probably the case for the vast majority of players. A lot of response to this well deserve criticism will obviously be brushed off as "trans hate, LGBTQ hate, etc". That's not the case. The story was utterly butchered to the point where I didn't care anymore. The last 2 hours of the game are useless and kill the game. Even if the story was trash, It should have ended at an OBVIOUS point but it didn't. I dont understand why you guys tried to push it that far again. It didnt have to go there and it was obvious. On top of the bad story, the story telling was so disorienting. After playing as the 2nd protagonist for multiple hours, you enter a state of mind where you don't even care about the main storyline. I get what you tried to do but it practically did not work.

Anyways, I'm going to stop here and give it a 4 out of 10 out of pity for the technical and artistic team because they actually did theyre job properly unlike others. Try focusing on a good organic storyline like you did in the first game and the rest will follow through.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Utter disappointment
Story: the story is contrived and manipulates the players feelings to feel bad about your actions throughout the game, yet the player has no active choice about those actions. I’ll set a few examples:
-Abby kills Joel with a golf club because she ambushes him with the rest of the group when they lure him andr Tommy to their safe house. Joel would NEVER trust strangers, even more he wouldn’t be so dumb as to go to their safe house! Joel dies because the plot needs him to die and to ignite our anger and lust for revenge
-The game makes you feel bad for killing a dog you play with when you play as Abby, yet the gsme never gives the player a choice on wether they want to kill that dog or not, it’s just to manipulate thr players feelings -The game makes you kill a pregnant lady, and it also expects me to feel bad for self defense? What was a pregnant lady doing on such a dangerous place! It’s stupid!
-The game ends with Ellie letting Abby go because she now learned that revenge is bad, but if you played any attention to the gameplay you’ll realize that you kill half of Seattle just to get to your target, yet Ellie let’s her go because now she gets that revenge is bad? This game manipulated us players to feel bad about pur actions, yet the only action I feel bad about is buying this game
    Story Veredict: 2/10

Gameplay: besides some tweaks and innovations the gameplay is exactly the same as the first game, except you can craft more items, go prone and use ropes to solve puzzles. After some hours you’ll feel the gameplay is repetitive and boring, same kinds of puzzles, same kinds of confrontations, same way yo get out of those situations. It’s mediocre
    Gameplay Veredict: 5/10

Graphics and Art: the graphics look fantastic and make the game look gorgeous, it’s amazing what a PS4 can boot up after all this years. Every detail, every animation, every close up to an item, it’s just beautiful
    Graphics and Art: 9/10

Final Veredict: this game has taught me the important lessons of never preordering any games and to listen to players when it comes to reviewing the game, not critics. If the story was not the reason I’d buy this game I’d give it a 6/10, however this was the main reason to buy it and the final score suffers for that. I give this game a 4/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From a PTSD standpoint it didn’t make much sense to me, the ending was bizarre. They dumbed down Joel & Tommy in order to fit the death scene they wrote, which was just odd. The story felt manipulative and forced in order to uplift abby while **** on ellie. They claim the story was about action and consequences and subsequently “revenge” yet the person who couldn’t move on after 5 years (abby) who committs the act of revenge gets uplifted in the story and ellie gets written down. It all felt very unnecessary and pointless and thats not something you should feel during a game journey, that the hours were pointless. Apparently they originally had Ellie kill Abby, which would have made the story make more sense and have a more satisfying ending, but apparently they changed that halfway through, because of Halley Gross, who seems to have butchered most of the story trying to subvert expectations rather than focus on logic, previous character behavior, and just focusing on writing a good story. Its naughty dog, so when it comes to the fidelity, gameplay, animations, cutscenes, voice acting, gunplay, accessibility its all god-tier, its just a shame the story is so bizarrely written. Not having a single hour in this game to play as Joel, with all its flashbacks, is astonishingly bad writing and disrespectful to the fan base seeing as how he’s dead now and you can’t play as him ever again unless they do a Pt. 3 with more flashbacks. I don’t care if you kill main characters, tons of movies and games I love have done that, but at least write it with some intelligence and respect for the characters rather than worrying about subverting or shocking the audience. I think the pressure to do a sequel got to them and they tried a lil too hard on this one and it sabotaged them. Expand

There were times where the game really shined but those did not outweigh the lunky storytelling. It felt like a kid wrote most of the lines in this game. They just weren’t believable. I will say the level design, environments, voice acting were all superb. I applaud their thinking in creating a fame with a diverse social cast, but as a LGBT person I think they could have done better. I thought the transgender story line was fine but they could have made the character much deeper. This game had so much promise and I am heartbroken over it not delivering. The Last Of Us part 1 is unequivocally my favorite game of all time. Neil Druckmann’s ego is too huge and he needs stop attacking his fans for expressing their opinions on the game. Really sad to see his handling of the criticism. The official reviews for this game are really suspect because I just feel they aren’t accurate. Here we go, first of, I would want to start with the things I find positive about this game. For this generation, the game graphical performance is insane. The realistic approach for the art style, the intention to detail of the game level and environment, the facial and movement animation, all of that blow my mind away and I can not wait to see this game performance on the PS5 later.

Unfortunately for me, that was it. Other aspect of the game really make me want to put the controller down. The first installment of the game was heavily relies on its story as its main drive. I don't know about others but I was enjoying the cut scenes more than the gameplay. For this second installment, the gameplay is basically the same as before, the stealth mechanism still not really thought out, multiple unnecessary violence, an uncomfortable sex scene, etc. Every time I encounter an enemy, it just does not feel as good, the gameplay sometimes can feel like a chore that I particularly hate to do but was forced to do so. I secretly wish I could skip it for the next cut scene.

Even more what make me scratching my head in frustration is, the cut scenes in this installment does not have the same level of enjoyment as the previous one. The premises of the first installment that really hook me is the unlikely relationship that was build between Joel and Ellie, two very different person that was impossible to become such as they are at the end of the first game, if it was not for the situation that they were in. The father daughter relationship that was build on trust and unexpected love. The first game also leave us with the big question on the quest for the vaccine.

The second game focusing on the wrong things, for me I always associates The Last Of Us as a story of Joel and Ellie, now Imagine that that you play Uncharted 2 but in the first two hour Nathan Drake was killed of by some random NPC and then you are force to play as the said NPC for 1/3 of the game so that you could 'understand' her reasoning while playing catch with some dogs. It could be a good stories if it was written properly with a proper build up, but there is nothing that could support the writer choice and reasoning for the story to unfold the way it did. After finishing it about 20 hours later, all I feel is the bitterness that lingering in my mouth, there was no hope or expectation or even desired to know more about what will coming next like the first installment left me.

You know what make me more uncomfortable, Naughty Dogs actually know what we, fans of the first installment want, but we only getting to peek at it through a series of flashback cut scenes rather to actually experiences it. But instead we are force to play as some unknown character and experience her pain.

This is undoubtedly my biggest disappointment in a video game that I have been expecting for almost half a decade. The game will obviously make its millions and will always reminds me that video games and its industry will always be business first, and Naughty Dogs that has set it foot as one of the most beloved game studio since last decades, has fall from its grace.

I also really liked The Last Of Us: Left Behind, which is when Ellie was first introduced as being gay.

On a side note, all the games I just mentioned had very positive user reviews, so the assumption that is being pushed that much of the negative user reviews regarding the The last of us part II are because of the female lead character and people not liking the LGBQT messages, is ridiculous.

The graphics in this game are amazing. IT's a great way to end the ps4's lifespan before the ps5 comes out graphically. Unfortunately, that is the best thing about the game. The controls seem dated, and not much different than the first game. The core mechanics are almost identical to the first game (which were already kind of outdated back in 2013 but no one really cared because the story was so good), but now it just feels really dated, except for the better animations.

Without adding spoilers, I will say that I did not enjoy the story for the most part, or the ending. Is this game a zero out of 10? No. But it's nowhere near a 10 out of 10 either.

    I give it a 4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Right now the story is a 4.5 out of 10 at most. The game tries too hard (unsuccessfully) to make us sympathize with a character that we absolutely cannot forgive. I think Naughty dog can fix the problem with the story very easily. First, get rid of the 10 hours of TORTURE with Abby and give the players a choice to kill or not kill Abby. That's it. OR at least show Abby being conflicted about killing Joel (cuz he saved that **** and get rid of the torture if you want the player to sympathize with her.
    Detailed Review :
I would firstly say that the graphics on this game are the best in any game ever made period 10/10. The game-play is 90% the same as the first game so its great 9.5/10. The cinematography was amazing as well as the background score 9/10. When you play the game you will be amazed by the how detailed, realistic and phenomenal the world looks. The attention to detail is amazing! the grass moves realistically when you move on it, as does the water, each NPC has a name which their friends call them when you kill them and soooo much more. Naughty Dog has always delivered in these areas.
The biggest flaw in the game is the story. The game present you with a despicable character (Abby) who tortures and kills Joel main protagonist while another spits on his corps. This does what its supposed to do, this builds up extreme anger in you towards Abby. So for you the only purpose of the game is to take revenge. You travel a long and fun journey to get to Abby. But when you do get to her, the game Forces you to play as this uninteresting character for more than TEN HOURS! during these 10 hours your only thought is to get it over with so you can finally kill Abby. But THEN the game MAKES YOU fight the only likable character left (Ellie). After you've beaten your favorite character and her pregnant girlfriend half to death and killing another friend of hers. You Finally get to play as Ellie for a short while and see that she has a good life and then the game makes you play as Abby AGAIN! Abby gets caught by some psychos, you leave to kill her for good this time, you catch her, you almost kill her and then...U don't. Because, you only wanted to kill tens of innocents for Joel's death but not the one that killed him. U get back home to find out that Ellie's girlfriend is gone as well. End of story.

Remember "spec ops: the line"? Well, kinda like that, but cheap, poorly written and doesn't work. Because there it was a clever subversion of a genre and a satire. This on the other hand is just cheap "look, character X is bad and you should feel bad. But look, character Y is good and everyone who hates them is bad".

    3. I wish I couldn't mention it because I want to try to judge this game by its own merit, but since the developers and defenders can't shut about it, I have to address it too:
Its disgusting how hard do people try to label anyone who doesn't like the story as bigots, transphobic, homophobic, sexist or whatever.
Having those characters doesn't matter Shouldn't matter if you really want to be inclusive.
What does matter is trying to use them as shields from criticism and to appear good.

    Graphics - 9 / 10
    Story - 1 / 10
    Gameplay - 7 / 10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us, 2013 = masterpiece. I've played through it at least 5 times. The Last of Us Part 2 = sure to continue the saga, it will only get better in this release, and those to come...or so I thought. The recipe for success was all there, stellar in every aspect. The characters, the bond they developed, a formidable, masculine lead character with a southern drawl in a post apocalyptic, survival of the fittest setting, stellar combat and stealth mechanics, impeccable voice acting, not to mention the graphics. What they were able to squeeze out of a PS3 is astounding.

I began this game with measured hopes and expectations. The world is such a strange place in 2020. Artists can't express themselves the way they once could for fear of offending the shrieking, blathering, petulant, "anxiety" ridden imbeciles that will denounce anything that doesn't depict every "marginalized" minority in existence in a completely improbable heroic, or otherwise traditionally masculine role.

Neil C u c k m a n has essentially injected his once beloved triumph with a lethal dose of wokeness. Ruthless combatants are are at least 80% female. Both fatherly figures, Joel and Tommy, are removed from the story. Joel is immediately killed off, and Tommy is non existent. From the first game, I felt as if the universe was totally immersive and a real life possibility, like it was as close to a simulation as you could get. The guys you were fighting were total sons of **** but they thought the same of you. It was survival of the fittest, the way things would be post apocalypse. All that was left roaming the streets or occupying contested territory were the hardest men, fighting the infected and their rival humans. The reality of the world is simply that women would not assume the same roles as men, as fighters, hunters, and gatherers. They would be the nurturers, doctors, child bearers, cooks, shopkeepers, etc. The way this world was depicted in part 2 was wholly fictional and completely destroyed my experience. I felt as if this game could have been as great as the first, possibly better had it not been beaten down and dragged through the mud by an sjw agenda.

The artwork is undeniable, it's visually breathtaking, the sound design completely immerses you, the combat has only improved from the first game. The level of detail is remarkable. Shooting an enemy's arm off, blowing them apart from a trip mine, the reflections of water, tracks in the snow, unique dialog between enemies as a result of your actions. But all of this is ruined by such imprudent, foolish nonsense that it almost goes down in flames. I have little to no desire to replay it. I can't help but be annoyed by the unlikeable characters I'm forced to accompany throughout the experience. I wanted Manny to get smoked in the first 5 minutes. I almost had to admit myself to the hospital to have my eyes surgically reset, because they rolled almost completely back into my skull when I found out that the obviously late term pregnant, short-haired girl was gonna leave the wire and come on an adventure. Then there's that part where you hoist her up to a shelf, and she uses her gut to leverage herself and climb up. Then later they start with the trans nonsense. Ok, if you want a chick to think she's a dude, and you see fit to encourage such mental illness, why draw attention to the fact that she's pretending to be a dude? Just let it ride, that way she is accepted right? But no, that's not what it's about. You don't get attention for being a victim that way.

In summation, they've crapped all over what should have been a follow up to a truly incredible, innovative, ground breaking game. This could have been a franchise that was simply unrivaled. Instead, they've traded away their future for a totally nonsensical movement and subsequent diatribe against what I feel is the majority of their audience, and gamers. I can't totally trash it, but I certainly can't praise it.

For the first 10 hours I thought it was a great game and couldn't understand the negative review, albeit Joel's death was undeserved. Then you play as abby...

+ Sound design - especially when modifying your weapon the details matter.
+ Level design - some really astonishing game design, especially in the aquarium.
+ The "back in time" missions with Joel and Ellie.

Then, what I absolutely hated about the game:
    - Killing main character based on choices he wouldnt make in the first place. 0 logic there.
    - Abby!!! I honestly felt disgusted playing this character. I had to motivate myself extremely to play as her. There is absolutely nothing to like about her. - Also the whole buffed body doesn't make any sense... Women apparently didn't have any time to shave their armpits, but they do have time to consume steroids. Yeah, makes sense... It felt too forced, but since Abby had to lift **** move **** carry **** and needed to be a woman, oh...lets make her then unrealisticly strong as hell.
    - The storyline. It felt I was playing a political agenda. This was making the game almost impossible to enjoy. I don't want you to force your thoughts on me, eventhough we may think the same.
    - The ending. The last mission made 0 sense. I think it perfectly resembles how the director had no idea what the previous game made it so good.

In conclusion, I will never forgive Naughty Dog for screwing up such a great game and potential. Please never make a 3rd one.

Being force fed political correctness ruined the experience for me. Other than that it is the same as the first game gameplay wise and the graphics are great.

I had my doubts about the review bombing on Metacritic well this is what I'll say after finishing this game after spending over 30 hours on it. This game had really great gameplay. But the story is incredibly pathetic and petty. I truly believe Naughty Dog wants gamers to forget about Joel in the **** manner possible. 'How come?' you ask me. Well it's Joel who taught Ellie how to play the guitar, handle a gun and self-defense. And when the game starts in Jackson Joel was murdered by Abby. Then near the end Ellie egged Abby to fight. Abby bites off Ellie's two digits so she can't play the guitar anymore in the epilogue. She even has a change of heart in finishing off Abby so lets her off the hook and denies us the satisfaction of exacting revenge. But no Ellie wasn't meant to be saved because she was supposed to be the cure for the pandemic. This is every kind of messed up possible. When she returns home to find her lover Dina long gone and can't even play her guitar properly during this depressing apocalypse, how much more depressing can this game get? Of course she leaves her guitar behind, which is symbolic of leaving Joel.

A new beginning I suppose... I definitely won't be getting TLOU3 if that ever comes out.

    Gameplay 9/10

If I could change something it would definitely be the story. There were so many decisions made by both Ellie and Joel that really made no sense. And I felt as though there was a huge lack of overall character development for our second and third party characters we were ultimately expected to feel bad for when losing yet knew nothing about. That was probably the strangest thing about this game. I had a hard time developing emotions for characters I didn’t know, while trying not to hate the actions and emotions being shown by the characters I did. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

the only thing good that comes out of this game are the Abby death compilations.
    Technically the game is good.
    a lot of content. (25 hour-ish)
But if you like the first part. this game will feel like self-mutilation

the fact there is sex in the game, by an very muscular woman, didnt bother me.
the fact there is an story arc about an transgender, didnt bother me. but it didn't add to the story, it felt forced. (probaly trying to score social justice points, but it felt forced. and they missed the ball. unlike the first part)

I do understand what they try to tell with the story, but i just stronly dissagree with its message about revenge.
I disslike abby so much, i try to rush to the gamepart where i play as abby.
I disslike Abby so much, i hated the fact whenever i unlock a new skill tree. it indirectly meant i have to play further with abby

And this isnt the good kind of of hate out of good writing. the game direction failed to generate any symphaty for Abby.

I remember the first part, where Sarah dies. the acting got me teared up. because Naughty dog took its time to generate empathy. it took 1 minute.
They tried with 10 hours with abby, and failed.

Such a **** shame. I will return my game or sell it second hand market.
Maybe this game deserved more then a 4, but if i see the score go beyond red, towards mixed i cannot put myself to press the submit button

This game left a bad taste in my mouth. This Secret character kills the beloved character a 1 and half in the game and then they think you will like to play as this character for 10 hours. Plus it seems like ND game this new character more love then Ellie's story half. the new character gets better map designs and better weapons and made this character more friendly trying to make the player like her. They gave her alot of pretty cool boss fights while ellie just get stealth encounter's. plus they up the looting in this game i felt like i been doing more looting then encounter's in this game. such a time consuming process.
Enserio ??!?!?!
    Mataste a joel

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
