The Last Of Us 2 is a disappointment, although it’s gameplay and graphics exceed the past game, the story is horrible......I feel that they have really disrespected Joel, and I never felt for Abby which I believe was the intention. Please naughty dog, make a new version of this game that will ACTUALLY be playable, and not something to justmake you feel the worst. ( also not enough character development between Ellie and friends) Expand

Problems like the unaceptable plotholes and completely unbelievable decisions and actions made by characters throughout the game just so the writers could force the story they created forward was one of my biggest problems with this game. There were way better ways to send the message that you wanted to send, but for some reason, after 7 years of development, this was the best you came up with. ND showed a complete lack of respect for our beloved characters. They also disrespected the fans with false expectations and misleading and fake marketing strategies, making us think the game is something that it really isn't. They thought that making us play half of the game on a side-quest just to make us like and care for unlikeable and boring characters was a good idea. Let me tell you, I hated every second. No matter how much you try to make said characters look like good people, they ain't. The ending of the game also feels very unsatisfying, not only for the choices the characters make, but also because the entire message you tried to send was very contradictory when you look at the end each character had.

Not all about this game is bad tho. Just like in the first game, the music is insanely good and fitting. The graphics are also insane, next gen stuff. Animations, acting (for what the writers intended), the overall art-side of the game is really good, it really brings the entire TLOU universe to life, even more than it did in the first game. There are also very enjoyable moments every now and then, mostly in the first half of the game, which makes you wonder what this game could've been if the writers actually cared.

Overall, I rate this game a 6/10. What made TLOU a great game, my favorite game of all time, was its story, and this game doesn't even come close to it. Production wise, this game really good, which makes it even more sad for me, because this could've been such an incredible experience, but, at the end of the day. it was just so unsatisfying.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am genuinely upset and confused about this game. I loved the start, my first "why?" moment happened when I first played as Abby. I though, eh whatever, its just for this bit (boy was I wrong). I enjoyed the stoyy, the revenge that Ellie seeked for Joels brutal murder, yes i was sad and angry Joel was dead, but it's a dark world, he doesnt have plot armor. I loved every second playing as Ellie hunting down the group that was involved. However, forcing me to play as Abby was just a stupid decision. I dont care what agenda you have to show me Abbys side of the story, I played a 14 hour game as Joel, no matter what I see isn't going to make me sympathetic to his killer. Its a stupid and ridiculous choice to do this. It made me want to stop playing the game completely. Honestly, if you're a massive fan of the last of us, dont play this game. Expand

graphics, physics, the work of designers, animators - beyond praise
fights and skirmishes became more dynamic.
What sways the plot: I'm absolutely not interested in Ellie's orientation, how the relationship between Joel and Ally has changed,
can understand, the girl grew up, teenage nihilism, etc. But, why did you have to kill your favorite character? why am I being forced to play for a killer, I absolutely do not **** her life, her feelings and experiences, I am not physically pleased to play for this disgusting giant woman, it's the second day of the game for Abby and I don’t want to continue the game.

Thanks to those people who worked on the game. screenwriters sucks

I really wanted like to this game, but man was I disappointed. While it did have some great features it ultimately falls flat and fails miserably at delivering any meaningful message. For a game of this magnitude to lack any worthy essence of storytelling and character development is a total abomination.

It’s obvious the amount pain stakingly long hours and hard work were put into this, and it heartbreaking to see it all undone by the shear disrespect shown to the characters we all grew to love. I’m fully aware it is not our story to write, but while playing through the game I couldn’t help but feel maybe they didn’t realize what made The Last of Us so special to us in the first place. It seems instead of leaning into the heart and soul of our established characters, “subverting expectations” was the main focus. We weren’t asking for a tame story line filled with roses. We’re well aware things can go terribly wrong in this world. We simply wanted to experience a story that honored the characters. I truly appreciate all of the work that went into making the gameplay so excellent, and I was crushing not to be able to enjoy it to its fullest. I won’t go into story details out of respect and I’ll sum it up quickly. From someone who truly loved these characters, I was heartbroken by not only what it was, but what it showed it could have been. Expand

GRAPHICS, it's a triple A game in 2020 of course it's looks beautiful.
LEVEL DESIGN, the world is designed well, it allows a lot of exploration and it is always rewarded by getting new weapons, equipment or resources.
SOUND, the sound is amazing. Shooting, punching explosions and other stuff sound really good.
DIFFICULTY, the difficulty customisation is perfect, you are able to adjust the main characters, the enemies, the environment, resources and so on.
FLASHBACKS, those were good and I feel the game should just start with them and the story in them was actually well written and told.

    BAD:
GAMEPLAY: it's just the same as 7 years ago, no improvements but also hasn't got worse, but yeah I think some new features would have helped the gameplay. It becomes tedious after 10-15 hours.
LENGTH: the game is way too long, 25-30 hours for this story is ridiculous, 15-20 hours would have been enough.
ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONS: yeah most of the things in there are useful options that can help people, however there are option that make no sense and seem to be put in for the journalists that review the game. There is an option that makes you invisible when prone, another option lets you stay under water without drowning, you can turn weapon sway off which makes certain upgrades useless and makes you feel like you are playing a trained soldier rather than a teenage girl.
BUGS, for a triple A game, there are so many bugs, I had to reload entire levels or restart the game on several occasion because the game was soft locked and I couldn't go on because a NPC didn't move to a certain spot.

    WARNING SPOILERS
STORY, the story is complete trash. I don't know who the people are that believe this story is well written or well-told.
CHARACTERS: The characters are introduced by name, like Jesse, Dina and so on, there is often no background to them, no story on how they met or how they ended up where they are. Every character that dies in this game dies after couple of scenes and isn't mentioned anymore people like JESSE and MANNY who are obviously important to the story, they die right in front of Ellie and Abby and they aren't mentioned after all, not a single word. Character development is awful, everybody but YARA and LEV are replaceable and unlikeable. YARA and LEV's story is nice and has some emotional and deep scene throughout their missions, especially the island scenes.
STORY ORDER, the order how the story is told feels backwards, Ellie kills these people like Danny, Jordan, Nora or whatever the hospital girl is called, then 7-10 hours later they are introduced when the player takes control over Abby. When people found out Danny is dead, they were mad and sad, as player I didn't care I knew nothing about that guy there was no connection. The order would be a lot better if the player would play Abby and Ellie each day, starting with Abby then Ellie "chasing" after her, so with Abby's missions we would get to know the "villains" we kill playing Ellie, but yeah none of this happens. Killing any of Abby's friends felt like killing any other enemy in the game, just another faceless character.
PURPOSE, the whole story is about revenge constantly showing the player revenge is bad, it is a cheap way of story making and it showed in the writing.
I have nothing against Joel being killed I feel it had to happen his actions needed consequences but it was badly done as Joel had 3 scenes before being killed. I have nothing against Naughty Dog's approach of making female lesbian characters and Abby's design, I see the media using this a reason why people don't like this game but it isn't.
The reason why people don't like this game is because it isn't made for gamers but for the journalist and reviewers. Accessibility options killing off the entire gameplay and the whole LGBT thing they are trying to do just shows me they are trying to please "video game" journalists.

In the end the game itself wasn't terrible as many people want to make it sound but it was certainly wasn't good either.

Died by the hands of Abby which we play with and trying to understand her, but you can't love a character that killed the most favorite character. At the end Abby is left with a place to go to and a friend, and Ellie is left with absolutely NOTHING. The fact that she turned out to be a better person than Abby by letting her live is not enough. This just shows how much influence Halley has had on Neil and how much she doesn't know a thing about Joel. Only youtubers and famous people are rating it high, and I think that shows something...I tried so hard to like the story and love the ending but every time I think of Joel it's like a part of me died. The two largest twists of the story were completely anticlimactic and a big middle finger to the fans of the first game. You aren't likely to get attached to any of the characters in the new game, which is really shocking for a Naughty Dog title. It's also extremely clear that Naughty Dog had a political agenda when creating this game. Let me be clear, it's not the agenda that makes the story a 0/10. It's the agenda coupled with a complete disregard for what the fan base deems as beloved characters as well as a completely inconsistent story with very little depth. Unfortunate, considering the studios last 5 new gen games had some of the best storytelling in video game history.

Gameplay didn't see much of an improvement over the first game, but it didn't need to improve here. Graphics on the other hand are leaps and bounds greater than the previous game and I didn't even think that was really possible after the first game was remastered for PS4.

Sadly the story is the most important part of any game like this. And the first game was so well done that it was hard for any game to live up to the high bar it set. Unfortunately, this not only didn't reach the bar the first game set, this set that bar on fire as if it never existed.

The first title should've never received a sequel with the same characters if it was to be done so poorly. To me, Last of Us is the only game in this "franchise".

Graphically and gameplay-wise, I have a hard time giving this less than a 7, but because the story is so poorly done, so poorly thrown together and is such an integral part of the franchise that this game is a 5 for fans, a 7 for newcomers. A 6 is fair. This is the Haze of the PS4.

As for the story: it's quite a mess. there is an attempt to deconstruct the characters as violent agents in a violent world, but that message is ruined by constant soap opera level drama, character decisions that make absolutely no sense, a character arc that adds nothing to the themes the game works with, new characters that are nowhere near as interesting as for example Bill or Henry & Sam from the first game. Plus, a lot of reliance on shock value and not actual emotion, which makes the game feel more edgy than gritty and dark. The ending does deliver the overall message of the game effectively, but it's hurt by the fact that most of the game does not properly build-up for this climax, something the first one masterfully delivered on. Overall, very disappointed, and Naughty Dog should really think about the direction they wish to go, cause I'm not going with them.

    Pros:
    - Presentation is really, really great
    - Violence is (most of the time) used in an effective way
    - Some really atmospheric setpieces

    Cons:
    - New characters are mostly uninteresting
    - Nonsensical plot points
    - The game drags by the end (Too long for its own good)
    - Shock value over actual emotion

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They didn't run out of ideas, that's for sure. However, the ideas they ended up using are very telling of the questionable narrative talents of Halley Gross and the other two "writers" Neil hired as fillers.

The plot holes in both narration and character arcs made this sequel disconnected from what the fans loved and championed about the first. In a way I get what ND was going for because in the real world if this were to happen, it would likely end up the same way: merciless, unfair, and saddening; but the execution needed a little help from Troy, I believe. Maybe it wouldn't have been so jarring to fans had he voiced and mocapped the "sequence" to show more the regret Joel had for trusting a pack of strangers and giving his and Tommy's names outright. There's a part there were they could've zoomed in on him and showed this so as not to leave the fans saying 'what the hell happened to Joel? a hunter would never do this!'

Also, what happened to the black doctor we all shot in the first game?! Yes, the surgeon in the first game was black, which makes Jerry's character so bizarre and last-minute to even include.

Still giving it a rating of 6 because it tried with all the Mortal Kombat fatalities which was nice. And you can't deny those graphics. That next-gen rendering alone already gives this game half the score.

First of all this game wasn't 9 or 10 out of 10 game for me, it's far from masterpiece.
Positive thing is Gameplay and Visual are great, some might say it's pretty much like the first game but I still enjoy it. I do love the story that game want to tell us and I think if done right, it would elevate this game so much more than it is right now.

But again the biggest flaws of this game for me is how they choose to present the story. If they do it right I would might fond Abby's gameplay more enjoyable but with the way they chose, it didn't. I found it hard to play as a character that were present to us as a bad guy with the hated feeling toward the character. I didn't want to play as her, I want her died I understand her story but how they told her story felt like an excuse than storytelling. If they were to build us some relationship with her before "The Golf Club Scene" it probably help this game more.

Also with the ending. I would say I saw that coming but again, I didn't feel any build up or anything that make this ending believable. it felt like this story have no payoff and all those journey was for nothing. In the end the storytelling and ending are tow things that drag this game down a lot since it's a story driven game.

This game is not garbage but also not a masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have played and beaten The Last of Us Part 2 twice now. I can say that the game is not a 10/10 or 100/100, which some critics are giving it. Nor is the game a 0/10 or 0/100, as some angry fans have been posting. This game has flaws and imperfections, while at the same time having its merits.

    Overall 6.5
The game is beautiful graphicly speaking. There should be no arguing this. I spent a fair amount of time enjoying the world. Some of the scenes were amazing, especially some of the ones around sunset. I found myself going into photo mode to take some pictures.

GRAPHICS: The game is easily a 9/10, maybe even a 9.5/10

The gameplay was fun while having its share of bugs and repetitiveness. One such bug happened when the character grabs someone and try to move them to a place where NPC would not easily spot their bodies. The game would often cause Elly or Abby to spin around in circles. Causing my sense of direction to be thrown off so that one it stopped spinning them around. I would either run into the enemy or get spotted, becoming an annoyance. Then there was the repetitiveness of mashing square for almost everything. They could of at least gave the players some other buttons to change it up.

GAMEPLAY: For all of this, I am giving the game a 6/10 for gameplay.

The Last of Us Part 2's story was the biggest issue for the game. The first game set up these characters and their personalities. In the first game, Joel was a survivor who did not trust people until they earned it. His experiences surviving in his apocalyptic world taught him. People could not be trusted. In a scene from the first game, Joel runs over someone. That seemed to be in trouble and seeking help all because of his distrust for people he did not know. Throughout the first game, he teaches Ellie how to survive and be leary of others.

    Spoilers

Then in The Last of Us Part 2, Joel is killed for trusting Abby and her group. I believe this would have never happened. As I feel Joel would have taken her back to her group and most likely left her outside the gate. Then head off to find shelter elsewhere from the storm. Other then Joel's death is out of character for him. I feel they made a huge mistake killing him before making us play as Abby. I know that I hated having to play her and wanted her dead.

Had the first part of the game started with Abby's story allowing us to see why she hated Joel and wanted him dead. Then play some of her struggle to find Joel. The player could have gotten to know Abby as a character. Even dare I say like the character and her friends to help the player to understand and accept that she kills Joel later on in the game.

As it is now, the story is a complete mess. With Abby killing Joel, Ellie going after Abby's friends to find Abby and killing them for their involvement in Joel's death. Leading to Ellie's second run-in with Abby, but before we get to play out that encounter. The player switches to Abby, playing her story up to and through the confrontation with Ellie. Now the player steps back into the shoes of Ellie, who is living with her lover Dena. Ellie suffers from PTSD and is having a hard time dealing with the fact that Abby is still out there. Ellie packs some things in the middle of the night after receiving news on where Abby is from Tommy. Dena confronts Ellie and pleads with her to forget about Abby. When Ellie tells her she can't and goes to leave. Dena says she won't be here when she gets back.

Ellie tracks down Abby, and they have a final battle, but instead of killing Abby. Ellie lets her walk away. So in this mess up story, Abby gets to walk away with the loss of a few friends but otherwise has a somewhat hopeful future. While Ellie, the character that everyone cares about, lost everything. She loses her father figure, Joel. She loses her friend Jessi. She loses her lover, Dena. She even loses her ability to play her guitar. What for Revenge that she didn't even get because she lets Abby walk.

STORY 4/10 it had potential had they changed and done some things differently.

Not as bad as people were making it out to be. The gameplay can be somewhat repetitive, but was fun and satisfying enough to keep me engaged. The story falls to having many detrimental flaws that drag it down to a very low status. Visuals are stunning and when combined with the amazing sound design, an engulfing atmosphere was created and immersed me fully within the brutal setting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game technically is wonderful but the story went in the wrong way. I'm totally fine with Joels death, he has done some bad things and he payed for them. Ellie's vengance mission is 100% understandable but giving the player 10 hours of game play with the character we all despise So much was not a good decision. The game tries to make you bond with Abby by showing her normal life, playing with dogs etc. I don't know why Neil thought it was a good idea. It is very hard to enjoy playing as such an evil character. In my opiniom Abby's story should be a dlc and more time should be spent on Ellies flashbacks and memories with Joel. The end of the game is not satisfying at all. Ellie doesn't get her revenge only because she saw a flashback of Joel siting on a porch. Overall the game is good it's definetly not a game of the year, it's a poor finish to the story of such an amazing characters. It's just not a satisfying ending. Expand

Mediocre game mechanics. But amazing animation, set pieces, character development, and story telling.
Unfortunately with this particular title significant character development and storytelling has disappeared. On top of this, it’s no secret at this point that the game is significantly longer then it actually needs to be. Inhabiting an additional character, who a majority of players can’t connect with or care about for obvious reasons. The final confrontation in the game easily being one of the most satisfying, then most dissatisfying moments in the story, not to mention video game history. Not to mention nonsensical.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never usually write reviews for games, but I felt in this case it was necessary. Before playing the game, I avoided all trailers, spoilers and leaks. I waited years for this game, and words cannot describe how disappointed I am.
Firstly, there are several elements to the game which are incredible. Naughty Dog have put blood, sweat and tears into this game and it shows in many areas. The visual scenes in this game are breath taking. The attention to detail for the environments is credit worthy. I would say the visuals are the best I have seen from any game. The customisation with difficulty settings, as well as accessibility is ground breaking in my opinion. That is however, where the good points end.
The gameplay is quite similar to the first game. However, the addition of going prone and jumping is a welcome one. However, I was disappointed with the lack of puzzle solving in this game. In the first game, you would use the wooden planks, ladders etc to make it from point to point. This allowed a break from the violent killing of humans and infected. This game severely lacked this and as a result the gameplay turned into run, kill and move to the next area. With a game time of around 30 hours this became very monotonous towards the end. This is a shame considering the rope mechanics introduced in the game were incredible but sadly under used.
The major disappointment and unforgiving in my eyes is the story. The premise of the story is revenge over the death of Joel. The plot holes start here. Joel was of cautious of everyone. In the first game, this was apparent when he knew the "injured" man on the road, while they were driving, was faking it. However, in this game he conveniently trusts a stranger and follows her to her base which is filled with more strangers. He seems to trust them, Tommy even invites them back to Jacksonville! In my opinion this was lazy writing. They needed to find a way to get Joel into that position, however this was poorly executed.
The biggest problem is playing half the game as Abby. Once she has killed Joel in such a fashion she is irredeemable. As you play her, she is made to be more human. However, I already saw that her killing of Joel was justified. He killed her father. An eye for an eye. But forcing us to play as her in an attempt for us to like her was terrible. We played as Joel for an entire game, so I don't understand how doing a long winded side mission with Abby would somehow turn us to her side. If the game introduced us to Abby and showed her perspective after the hospital, and then led up to Joel, rather than flashbacks this may have been more effective.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the last of us was the relationship between Ellie and Joel. There was no character building of any of the main characters like Dina and Jesse. Jesse is killed and I didn't feel much since I didn't know much about him. If Dina was removed and Ellie went solo, there wouldn't be much of a difference. This shows how little Dina mattered in the grand scheme of things. More development between the two should have occurred.
The icing on the cake is the ending, which is shocking. Ellie finds her way back to Abby after everything, to take her revenge. She slaughters an entire settlement to get there. A fight ensues and Abby bites off two of Ellie's fingers. Yet after all of this, Ellie feels that Abby should be spared? In the end we see that Ellie can no longer play the guitar since she is missing fingers, she has lost her family and friends and has nothing to show for it. The game tries to display the message that endless violence is never the answer. However, they fail to account for all the potential people who could come after Ellie after Seattle or after Santa Barbara. Moreover, they allow Abby to get her revenge but Ellie is denied.
There are too many flaws in the plot to note. The aspect of the story I did enjoy was the flashbacks with Ellie. These were very well written and reminded me of the first game. I would have rather preferred an entire game of such flashbacks than what we got.
I have noticed several people find the politician tones of the game appalling. Personally the addition of gay/trans did not affect me at all. It did not add or retract anything from the game. I would not rate down a game for that imo.
Overall the game is a let down. I would still say it is worth a play purely from the visual aspects. However, do not have high expectations.

TLOU II is a great game if it comes to it's level of detail, yet it doesn't mean that it's perfect in every possible way. I can understand the emotions but we are humans, and humans will always be emotional.

    Lets get to the point:

    - Graphics 10/10 very immersive. For 7 years of work, great job.

    - Gameplay - 4/10 : its more repetetive than the first game for sure

    - Scenography - 8/10 very good detail and in gentle symbolism.

    - Bugs and glitches 3/10: rare but they do appear

    - Story telling- 5/10: All the scenes and dialoges got me some mixed feelings at the first time of viewing. The way TLOU II makes us feel while playing and viewing experience, is just somewhat cruel, but natural, and that's what makes it good, however the entire plot of the game felt empty after completion of the game story. I honestly felt pointless doing all of "this" at the second half of the game. It just asks for another sequel. The entire plot and story is just a wasted potential in my opinion. I think that taking a different approach to the game would make it better.

    - Animations: 10/10: they did a great motion capture on this i must tell

    - Humans/ interactions /emotions: 8/10: natural,/very rarly un-natural (soft-core porn isn't good enough for game industry)

    - Soundtrack: 10/10 true masterpiece

That's it, thank you for reading my honest opinion.

The game has a lot of settings which you can adjust to your needs. Huge positive things about that the game has implemented systems to make the game easier for the people who are disabled.

The main problem with this game I have with the character's development and storytelling. In a few words - in during game I don't like about the main characters and second characters. I don't buy them. They are repulsive and boring. The main idea which stays behind this story is good, but implementation looks like that junior team did it.

The poor story shows the poor game loop. At the end of the game, I was done - I didn't want more because I was bored.

Few words to Neil Druckmann - if you don't care about gamers' opinions and you rejected all of them - because - "I DON"T CARE" - okay. In the future, I won't buy any games from Naughty Dog anymore.

Miraculously, I managed to avoid the leaks and any information outside of the official trailers. So any impression was purely based on my experience with the game.

I waited 7 years for this game, and I'm left disappointed and heartbroken. I really wanted to like it. I thought people that were upset were simply immature. I was wrong. This is a game that tries too hard to be smart. It is not profound. It is not deep. It does not require you to think deeply about the themes, it bashes you over the head with it. The Last of Us Part II is a very good example of what happens when themes overtakes storytelling instead of elevating it.

I'm giving this a 6/10. 5 of that is for it being a technical marvel. 1 for having a promising start.

The gameplay is solid. It's nothing new, so if you loved the gameplay from the first one, you will love it in this one. However, it became repetitive when you start to get 3/4 of the way. Notable zombie boss fights that was frantic and enjoyable.

Graphics looks great. Seattle provides an incredible backdrop to the bleak story and the atmosphere puts you in a tense emotion by providing great lighting. Subtle character expression is visible and provides an additional depth to the incredible acting by the actors.

Unfortunately, the story is where it all falls apart. It had a promising start, but began to waste your time halfway through. It's a 10-hour journey stretched out to 25. The premise is that Ellie began her journey of revenge after a traumatic tragedy. However, it has been intentionally left out that the person responsible for that traumatic tragedy is a playable main character and you will spend at least 10 hours as that person. To anyone intending to buy this to have more Joel and Ellie adventure, don't. You have been misled by the trailers and interviews. This is not a Joel and Ellie adventure, it is barely an Ellie adventure.

Instead, it is a showcase of what the cycle of revenge and violence will cost a person. Stripped down to its core theme, The Last of Us Part II sends the message that "revenge is bad". Yet it does not respect the players enough to let them discern it themselves by writing and telling a compelling and emotional story. The message is instead shoved down the players' throat for 25 hours to ensure that the message is there, at the expensive of proper storytelling. The structure is a mess. The first half built up to a tense moment, leaving it at a cliffhanger to bring the tension back down as they rewound time. Horrid decision and completely destroyed any tension that existed.

Characters continually make decisions that is out of character. It was very difficult to relate or agree with the decisions my main characters were making. This deviance from established characterisation were mostly unexplained. Coincidences and cheap plot devices were used to move the story forward. Further, the story continuously hid information from the player with the intention of 'surprising' them with it later on. Compared to the strong cast of characters from the first game, the characters in the second one is very weak and forgettable.

The first game had a relatively generic story. It was Joel and Ellie's relationship as well as the incredible supporting cast of characters that elevated the story. My difficulty to relate and connect with any of the characters is a large reason as to why the game fell flat. I do not understand why the reviews have been calling this a perfect game. It is far from that. Does it deserve a 0 or a 1? Not necessarily. But there are certainly better games out there that does not waste your time for 25 hours.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

In pratica ciò che ci vuole far dire il gioco è "Revenge Bad, Ellie Bad." e "Revenge Good, Abby Good", e ciò è errato.

In conclusione.

    Grafiche: 10/10
    Gameplay: 8/10
    Storia: 0/10

Voto complessivo che gli dò: 6/10

I rate the game separately from part 1 because I never played part 1. I just watched a summary of the story from part 1, so I understand what happens in part 2. So I can rate the pure game without having to compare it with part 1. I played through the title on "normal" in about 21h!

Let's anticipate the positive: The graphics, sound and the ambience of the environments are really on an excellent level. Most of the work and is definitely in the 3D models and mapping. The different areas in which you move around are quite varied and beautiful in themselves. Especially the woods are beautiful and invite you to stay. The first 2 hours of the game are very captivating and you definitely want to know what happens next.

Unfortunately, these were all positive things that come to my mind at first go.

Up to the point where it happens you realize how deep and touching the story could be. Exactly at that point the story stops for 16 hours. There are always flashbacks, some of which are totally irrelevant and could not really contribute to the story. What was even more annoying was the Xth review of the review. In general I find it absolutely annoying even in movies when you try to explain something by looking into the past for the 5th time. I find a constructive story much more understandable than one that looks back and forth. Many flashbacks could have been finished in 5 minutes. Many of these retrospectives were only artificially extended in an outrageous way. I often forgot what happened 6 hours ago, because I've been loitering and killing stupid enemies for hours. Of course there were always short story moments in between. But if we are honest, they were extremely rare and quickly forgotten. The last 2h were really exciting and very well staged. If I break that down I had about 4h of good moments and 17h of running from house to house and killing stupid enemies. The idea of the story is unfortunately nothing special! Person 1 kill person 2 who totally liked person 3 and person 2 wants revenge on person 1. I mean we often saw and played exactly that way. there were not really any twists or surprises during the whole story that would have been good for the story. The end was already relatively clear after 2h and came 0 surprisingly. In the end, it would have been better to add more twists and push the whole story to 6h or 8h and not extend the whole crap to over 20h. I would have preferred to have 8h of action and story all the way through rather than having to wait all the time. The part with Abby was, I think, also much too long.

If you want to talk about the opponents and the AI, you have to say clearly that I was not challenged much. The AI of the people running with us is on the level of a toast. The AI runs into the middle of the battlefield and stands in the middle of it until you attack. Even worse are the enemies that were right in front of you and the AI that runs with me and does exactly nothing. Whether they're human or zombie. Although the AI has often flanked in battle, but that was often easy to avoid by just lying down in the grass. Often I had the problem of missing ammunition. Especially before the few boss fights there was much too little ammunition. The rat king just annoyed me, because I went into combat with barely 20 shots in total. Sure, it could be that I stopped trying to find every boring house at some point but you never know when a boss is coming. The only thing I found cool was that you could always play stealth or aggressive.

You can't complain much about playing. The behaviour of the character while running, running, climbing etc. was really well implemented. The technique with the rope was really very good. But that was the only technique you seemed to rest on. At some point the rope throwing became really boring. The weapons in general are varied and it always makes sense to use different weapons on different opponents. The skill tree was interesting but not really decisive in the fight.

So what can you say as a conclusion? The game is good but unfortunately story-wise much too boring and playfully much too monotonous. After a certain time you only run from house to house or floor to floor and kill and plumb. In between there were always some short story moments. The idea of being able to play the antagonists half of the game is good, but it was just annoying here and was much too long. If I use the 100% rating scale, I would give the game 69%. The game only shines graphically but otherwise only very rarely in the story.

I wouldn't wish for part 3 in this case!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel some of the utterly scathing reviews for Last of Us Part 2 are disingenuous - but not unjustifiable. The game simply does not live up to its predecessor in terms of story. Returning characters are badly written and the majority of new characters are instantly forgettable. The ending offers no real narrative or emotional payoff making you ask yourself “What was the point?” This lack of closure makes the violence feel perverse – falling into the clichéd “violence for violence’s sake” trope.
Where this game does shine is of course in its visual presentation. The game is stunning to look at and can be forgiven for acting like it knows it a times. The mechanics are immersive (while perhaps repetitive) and the AI is for the most part excellent. Inclusion of new in depth accessibility options feels like a real game changer which may prove to be a staple for future AAA titles.
As a massive fan of the series' first iteration this is an imperfect game with painfully apparent flaws, which undeniably falls short of the mark. The game somehow teeters continuously on the edge of breath-takingly good and gut wrenchingly bad which feels like a feat in and of itself.

I’ll begin by saying I like this game, but I do think the critics from news outlets exaggerated their score. The Last Of Us Part ll is not the perfect game both in gameplay and story telling, but has compelling themes that deconstructs the players views of characters from the previous games. This game is not for everyone and when the credits rolled I found myself not really wanting more since the stories of these characters have been told and coming out of the events of this game they all lost more than they gained. The Story in this game feels everywhere, Neil Druckman took a lot of cues from Tarantino and his way of story telling most notably in vain of Pulp Fiction with a revenge tale similar to Kill Bill. With that being said this type of storytelling doesn’t translate well into a 25 Hour Story. This game focuses on both sides, no one is the good guy and no one is the bad guy. The Last Of Us Part ll suffers greatly from this when a majority of the game you spend walking around with dialogue and discussions that aren’t interesting. This is more apparent within the last half of the game and is by far the weakest part too. The Combat this game has to offer initially feels like a rush after you blow off your first limps hearing blood curdling screams from enemy factions. This brutality alone compliments and reflects the themes this game strives to, but eventually this novelty gets worn out after awhile and you eventually see the flaws the game has to offer such as the dumb A.I that actively hunt you down during the numerous combat arenas. To simply put it, this game at first is fun, but due to the length of this game and how boring the game gets this game simply playing it feels like a chore in which you constantly wish for the credits to just roll. As for characters and relationships alongside the numerous deaths in this game comparing it to the first title a lot of these deaths lack any form of weight to them and all it simply spells out is “No One Is Safe and No Happy Endings Exist”. Ellie’s and Dina’s relationship what starts off as a close one ends up becoming romantic with moments where you see clear Jealousy by Ellie, this relationship does progress, but as it does and as you reach late into the game you see Dina has developed the same control that Joel once had over Ellie during a scene that propels you into the final three chapters. Overall The Last Of Us Part ll isn’t for everybody, I found the ending conflict between Ellie and Abby to be empty and lacks any satisfaction, their actions costed so much and for Ellie it ultimately left her with nothing and almost empty with this clearly displayed before the final cutscene. If I was to rate this game I’d simply rate it a 6/10 It’s a ok game, it’s clear that plenty of love went into it, but unfortunately it misses the mark on a lot of levels especially since I completed the original before beginning this game. Characters and Writing alongside the accompanied gameplay don’t serve the game well since all together it over stays it’s welcome compared to the original. Expand

Frankly, I am really disappointed with the story even though the gameplay was extremely fun and the graphics and the world were gorgeous. The story offers nothing interesting or new to the table that hasn't already been made and what the story did was already done better in other games (e.g. RDR2). 25 hours of gameplay for absolutely nothing.

I will install the game again when they release the multiplayer because as I said the gameplay is really fun (it's kind of similar to uncharted 4 but I really don't mind). I hope Naughty Dog's next game is better

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is pretty fun to play. The gameplay is solid and I enjoy the loop: cutscenes, explore, fight, with a few set pieces thrown in there. Graphically this is one of the most impressive games on on PS4, the same goes for sound. The writing and story were the mainstay of part I. In Part II we have these beautiful round characters that were crafted over the course of part I and, largely, we don't do anything with them. Joel, absolutely the best written and most morally complex character is disposed of early. The rest of the game we spend as Ellie hunting Abby and offing a series of her compatriots. When we switch to Abby we're asked to understand and sympathize with this new character and understand why her killing Joel is justified. Her actions are justified but I could not find any empathy or sympathy to afford this character. All in all the characters are all flat. None of them experience any real change. Dina basically stays the same same the entire game. Jessie is interesting and is then unceremoniously shot I'm the face. By the end Ellie's choice to let Abby live is completely illogical. After killing Joel, Jessie, Tommy, and one slice from killing Dina Ellie just lets her go. Revenge is best served cold, and preferably with some nice round characters and some significant character development. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No, just no. Everything is great except the story, which makes the game, and that's why it's not good despite the rest of the game. How did everyone at Naughty Dog agree to this story? Joel gets killed in a horrific, almost traumatising way that is not right. If he had to die at least make it honourable, so that it was somewhat acceptable, but not like this. They literally destroy Joel. And then they try to make us feel bad for Abby and understand why she did it and make Ellie and Joel the bad guys?! There are simply no good or bad guys in the apocalypse.

We play with Abby for more then half of the game which makes us see how the relationship is between her and her friends, which doesn't even matter to the story. And then we are forced to fight Ellie? In every aspect of the game you see how Abby is a big psycho, and then she almost kills (a pregnant) Dina, which she was gonna enjoy. While you could see that when Ellie killed Abby's friends she started to breath heavily cause you know, she's a human and was shocked what she did. And then when we finally can take revenge and kill Abby, ELLIE STOPS??? Because of a memory of Joel??? It should have done the opposite and make her want to kill Abby even more! And so in the end everything was for nothing and Ellie loses Joel, Dina, and is left alone? How can you ruin this game so much Naughty Dog? Neil Druckmann, why? How could you guys do this to every fan of the last of us?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TL;DR: Frustrating, but a must-play

Giving this game a 0/10 is truly idiotic. Giving it 10/10 is pure fanboyism. This game isn't mediocre, but it's not a masterpiece either. Being a narrative focused game, this is about how it makes you feel. I cannot speak for others, but I have felt an intense rollercoaster of emotions playing this game, for better or worse. FYI, I have finished this game on the 20th. Here's my bullet points:

    Pros:
    -Storytelling
    -Better gameplay
    -Stressful ambience
    -Masterful music
    -Ellie

    Cons:
    -Storytelling
    -Pacing
    -Redundant flashbacks
    -Revenge bad
    -Abby

I'm putting storytelling in both the pros and cons because this game will make you feel devastated, depressed, frustrated, anxious and conflicted. I finished this game within 2 days because I couldn't put my controller down. For the first few hours, it's so nice to be back with both Ellie and Joel, then... he gets brutally murdered after literally saving his killer's life. That might be out-of-character for him, but he's been living in a community of hundreds, Jackson, for 4 years now. I was pissed, I was devastated, but Joel needed to die for the story to advance. It's easy to say that what he did was justified, but he is directly responsible for the state of the whole world. Even if the cure was a 50/50 chance of success, the logical thing is to save the rest of the world. Don't get me wrong, if I had to do it all over again, I would save Ellie everytime, but you cannot say that he didn't deserve to die. The music and the ambience in this game is truly anxiety-inducing, I was at the edge of my seat for 90% of my playthrough. I replayed the original on the 18th and the gameplay is improved, albeit very similar. Guns handle better and the bow is now fun to play with. It's not revolutionary by any means, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Pacing is the worst aspect of this game. It makes you feel conflicted about what it's trying to tell you and fails at making you care about Abby. All you get is this melodramatic run through a snowy forest with some dude and a girl that are looking for Joel, before this girl ends up beating him to death with a golf club. With hindsight, it just feels like shock value -- the bane of Game of Thrones -- and sullies the rest of Abby's story-line.

I think the game is easily fixed if you just move segments around... It should start the same, Joel and Tommy's conversation is a great way to recap the original and get you back in the world straight away. Visiting Jackson is okay, I guess, it shows the new status quo for our characters. You should still meet Abby in the cabin, having these unknowns looking for Joel is ominous. After they see Jackson, the game should go to Abby's panicked run through the hospital, finding her dad sprawled dead on the floor. This way it shows you, it makes you feel why she wants to find and kill Joel. That being said, I think the beating was just a little too much, for my taste. For the rest of the story, I think Ellie and Abby's journey through Seattle shouldn't be split in two, but made back and forth, from one to the other. It might be as redundant, but I hated playing only Abby for so long. A lot of people say that the new characters are bland, but just look at Tess and Tommy. We have very little background to them and they still are players' favourites.

Throughout the game, you keep seeing these similarities between Ellie and Abby. They are driven by vengeance, they go out into an insanely dangerous world for someone else (Joel and Tommy for Ellie, Owen and Lev/Yara for Abby). I think that's a great element of the story, how similar they can be at times, in their goals and their methods. Which would be accentuated by the back and forth between the two, as I proposed earlier. To be honest, I think this game would be a solid 8-9, if the pacing were better. As for the ending... I would keep it the same. Exactly the same, except for one detail: Ellie kills Abby. Revenge is bad, right? We all heard that story before, but killing Abby doesn't say that revenge is good. I mean, Ellie says that she cannot sleep or eat and she has vivid hallucinations from a simple bucket tumbling over. She is still consumed by that need for retribution, after months. She abandons Dina and JJ to get said revenge, she travels for probably weeks on end to find Abby. Drowning her would most likely condemn Lev because I don't see any reasons for Ellie to help him after he handicapped Tommy. I mean, killing Abby after she was left to die of starvation, tied to a pillar, is truly horrible, but it still doesn't say: "Revenge is good."... Coming back to the farmhouse empty is punishment enough for being consumed by vengeance. However, it's just utterly insulting after not only sparing Abby, but literally SAVING HER LIFE.

Look... with all that being said, I still think you should play this game for yourself.

If your playing this game for the story, don’t expect the level of uniqueness and effort that the first game delivered. The story is uninspired and nonsensical. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My final score for this game: 6/10

    Gameplay: 9/10
    Graphics: 10/10
    Level of Detail: 10/10
    Story: 2/10
    Character Developement: 4/10

Gameplay is way better than in TLOU 1, graphics and detail too. I mean, everyone who played it will say the same. I wont go further into it as it is kind of obvious just looking at 10 minutes of gameplay.

TL:DR: Any claim, that says, that the "feminism" in this game killed is, ist completely wrong. This game is completely different than TLOU 1, a very bad continuation of this legendary game imo. What they did to Joels Character is really stupid as he acts completely different than in Part 1. As for Ellie, I liked her developement, which is the only good think about the story. (Except the ending, which again makes no sense). For people who are looking for a new Game with great gameplay, detail und graphic I definitely recommend it. However, if you come from TLOU 1 and expected something similar good storywise you will get disappointed big time, just like me.

I kind of hate to say it but this game disappoints me and surprises me so much, i dont have any words for it. For starters, Joel died way to early. For people who wanted to see more Joel and Ellie action this will come as a big disappointment. Not only did it not make any sense in the beginning, but it was way too early. Next big nogo: They forced you to play as Abby, the killer of Joel. I mean, its kinda ok to do but then you also have to trying to kill Ellie with her. This is the biggest disappointment in this game ... As far as character development goes: The die way to fast to build up any relationship with them. They just feel blant with no depth in them. I liked Levs story though, that one was really ok. The rest was just plain boring.
Abby just feels like a unloveable person to me. I could not build up any relationship with her like I did with Ellie and Joel. She acts and looks like another npc within the world of TLOU who is not worth talking about. I know they want to progress the story with her in the upcoming titels, which I am not a fan of.

The Ending is really inconsistent. Why did we take the long path of revenge, killed dozents of innocent people to only let the person live, that killed Joel, Jesse and shot Tommy? Everything that was build up in the story for nothing, literally. The only reason that they let Abby live, is that they want to continue the story with Lev and Abby. I have no problem if they do it, but dont call it The Last of us as it as nothing to do with it. Back to the story: In the end we see Ellie retruning to the house, see her playing with a guitar which see can play proberly because of the two fingers missing and after that going away with the guitar in the camera. It feels like a goodbye ellie ending for me. We will probably see more from her, but she wont be the focus on the series anymore. My guess is that we join her journey on returning to jackson or something along the lines, maybe in a dlc.

The game has a really poor story, but good graphics, details and gameplay. You can feel the love put into this game from the devs. However, I cant say the same about the writers. For me the game completely destoryed both Ellie and Joel just to push a new char into their story, Abby. They try to once again revolutionize the gaming industrie but failed hard. For me it only gets 6/10 even if I want to give it even more. Biggest disappointment of this year yet.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the first part very much, and the first half of the second part is great as well. BUT!

First of all, the gameplay is nearly as great as the graphics and the sound. Naughty Dog has clearly made another game with a great atmosphere. However, it continues the story of part 1 which had above all a fantastic story and made it easy for players to build up an emotionally intense connection to the main characters. This is continued by the developers in the first half of the game, but then they betray their concept. Spoiler:

Naughty Dog do everything to develop hate for Abby on the player's side. In my opinion, they do that much too well in view of the second half of the game. We have travelled with Joel and Ellie all the time, and there will be few players of the first part who don't love these characters. Now we must watch Abby kill Joel in the most cruel way. That's okay in matters of storytelling and a very shocking scene. But it prevents the player from developing any positive feelings for Abby, and now I have played her for many hours... I do not know how this is to work. The second half of the story is very much in lack of emotions because of this problem. I hope Abby will die in the end, but making her a playable character through several chapters was a fault. Even the try to make the player understand her feelings does not work with me. The flashbacks are made nicely, but they cannot wake a real feeling of pity for Abby. We have first met her when she was rescued by Joel and gratefully tortured him to death. And now we are supposed to feel with her? That does not work, Naughty Dog! You cannot do something like that in a game that lives so much of its story. I'd like to know if ANYONE enjoyed playing Abby after Joel's death.
Furthermore, I just talked (playing Ellie again) to Tommy who had been shot intohis head by Abby before. Why does he survive this as if it never had happened, while an arrow in his leg still has so big influence on his walking???? VERY poor storytelling in my opinion.

TLOU2 is a very good game in the first half but quite a fail in the second. Abby finally develops some character when she saves Lev and Ayra. However, she then even betrays her own friends. And this character is to be played about 50% of the game... Almost worse is the "deus ex machina" Tommy on the farm; he really should not have survived this or at least not be ableto travel any more.
I only hope the ending will be better and Ellie gets her revenge. I wouldnt be surprised if Ellie refuses to kill Abby in the last minute or even gets killed herself. The story of this game is just as awful as the first part's one was great.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If anything, this game proves that you have to take reviews, both from the critics and the users, with a grain of salt.

The game sounds and looks beautiful, albeit with a fairly low FPS for me, coming from the world of PC gaming.

The gameplay is decent. I had some problems where the sway and the aim assist seemingly worked against each other, but that might just be because I'm not used to the controller, so I'm just pointing it out, and it didn't have an influence on my score.

The game is very linear most of the time, which is a plus for me. The game mostly leads you to the next part in an intuitive way.

I don't think I have ever seen this many custom settings for gameplay. While I never used them, it is a definite plus for people who need them.

I personally didn't mind the so called "pandering" in the game. Of the new characters, I probably ended up sympathizing with Lev the most.

What dragged this game down for me, however, was the structure and other choices in the narrative.
I understand that there need to be consequences for Joel. I get WHY he died, but HOW it was done is just so incomprehensible to me. The cautious main character of the first game dies in the beginning by walking into a camp filled with people he doesn't know. Nah, I don't buy it.

I also get why we get to "see" Abby's version of the events that unfold. But again, I don't agree with HOW we see it. I now have to play the character I'm meant to hate, through each scenario that lead up to friends dying, with intercut flashbacks which serve almost only to confuse me further. As I was searching the hotel for supplies, I almost quit the game, that's how much it dragged. At no point did I ever care about Abby. The only interesting thing about her storyline, was the introduction of Lev and his sister.

There are two morals to the story:
    1) The whole "revenge = bad". Cliché, and done poorly. I hated how Ellie flip-flopped during the end, and I wish it had been done differently. Perhaps not had the last fight, and made Ellie realize it when she saw the state of Abby on the pillar.
    2) How no one is intrinsically evil. We see Abby's version of the event to make us realize that what is good and evil in this world, isn't as simple as it may seem. The fact that the guys at the end are so one dimensionally evil kind of defeats that purpose, but I liked the idea, hated the execution of it.

In the end, it's not a terrible game. It does not in any way work as a sequel to the first one, and it has big problems in terms of structure. The best thing was the flashbacks with Joel, scattered through the narrative mess, and perhaps the conflict with the seraphites, and the character of Lev.
I wish it hadn't been attached to the first game, because then I might have liked it more, and it wouldn't have tarnished the franchise.

I struggle with whether to give it a 5 or a 6. If not for the vast amount of custom settings, I would have given it a 5.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes, I played the game. I was the first of my friends to beat it.

Nothing the game was trying to do with its story went over our heads. The early death of Joel was meant to give the player a sense of loss similar to what Joel experienced in the beginning of the first game. The dual narratives were meant to challenge the player’s attachment to hero figures. (Although they had to heavily retcon the doctor in the first game to make Abby sympathetic.) Abby and Lev are parallel to Joel and Ellie. Abby and Owen sympathizing with an opposing faction is parallel to the player sympathizing with Abby. The game makes us fight Abby at her weakest and most harmless to challenge our concept of revenge. Ellie ends up living out her greatest fear of being alone as a punishment for seeking revenge.

Seriously, we get it. It’s really not that deep, and it's silly to pretend that it is so you can conveniently accuse disappointed fans of not "understanding" it. If the writing in this game is so brilliant, why was retconning even necessary? Why was the doctor suddenly a noble hero in a squeaky clean surgery room and why did they canonize the specific player choice of Joel stabbing him in the neck when many players, including myself, shot him in the leg? This was a clear attempt to make Joel err more on the side of evil to get the player to sympathize with Abby. The ending of the game went from a fascinating moral ambiguity to "Joel definitely bad" because the writers, who are supposedly too sophisticated for us to comprehend, couldn't think of any other way to make Abby sympathetic. In addition to disregarding what made the TLOU's ending interesting, TLOU2 reduces Ellie's immunity from a major plot point to a simple character trait, and throws away Joel and Ellie's relationship, which was what gave the first game its appeal to begin with. Joel's death and the absence of his dynamic with Ellie creates a void that the game then tries to fill with characters we have no reason to care about, and this emptiness made me feel as though I was playing strictly for game completion.

What's sad is that the first game already left a perfect foundation for a sequel. The rising tensions between Joel and Ellie and the hanging question of what to do about Ellie’s immunity would have made a far more compelling story and climax. There would have been just as much potential for plot twists and subverting expectations as Part 2's story. Instead, these things were reduced to brief flashbacks in favor of a forced, retcon-fueled revenge tale does the bare minimum to connect itself to the TLOU universe. But apparently I’m an entitled gamer for expecting a sequel to be a sequel and not a complete tangent.

The game is a strong 6 for me at best. Graphics, animations, gameplay, and level design are well done. I could understand people giving it a 7 or an 8. Hell, I can even understand going higher if it was rewritten as a new IP with new characters. But there is no way in absolute hell that this game is a 10/10 AS A SEQUEL by any standard.

The first is a masterpiece of storytelling, and unfortunately the sequel does not do it justice. Plot points are forgotten, or poorly handled, as well as the ending being extremely lackluster and void of reason. There are many who rate the game so low simply because of certain themes, but when playing the game itself, these 'SJW" themes are non-existent and handled very well. Overall, The last of us two is an incredible game, with a poor and lazy story. If you're a fan of the first, or love the world itself, I would recommend it for the experience itself, only when the game is eventually on sale. Overall, it is a technical marvel, but will be remembered for it's poor storytelling which does a disservice to The last of us brand, which should have been left alone after the first installment. Just be prepared to play and try to survive with a character you hate and want to kill for half of the game and you should be fine. The ending is pretty disappointing as well.
But is the game worth experiencing? For sure, but maybe wait for a discount.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, that was something. Not everyone's cup of tea, some bits were really good, and some bits were really bad. First of all, the art was insane, the detail, storytelling and world building is second to none. Character animations are excellent, with amazing acting and cut scenes.

Music and audio overall was unreal. Extremely immersive and created a beautiful atmosphere. The level design was what you'd expect from a Naughty Dog title at the moment, diverse and sometimes fun. The added dimension of crawling and climbing was implemented well, however I didn't enjoy the invisible borders to the levels, I think this is a cheap level design move and ruins the immerssion. The gameplay was okay, it hadn't really evolved into anything more than what it was before, some of the cover and shooting was a bit clunky and unfortunately didn't feel well thought out at times. Killing gets very repetitive and becomes an unrewarding experience to borderline grindy and monotonous. I'd have quite enjoyed setting traps, problem solving ways of getting out of rooms, better designed stealth missions and just simply exploring some interesting areas. Considering in Uncharted we can climb so much stuff, I was very surprised this wasn't something added.

The story, well, I don't really know what to say... For me, it was just a mess. Killing one of the most beloved characters in gaming history, seems like a very nasty way to destroy all the love and respect built from the first title, and to do it for shock is for all the wrong reasons. I'd dare say it's borderline selfish.

Secondly, taking away player agency and forcing them down a bottleneck to play the very character who murdered Joel in an attempt to provoke emotion, again, feels very self righteous, and the manipulation tactic designed to make the player enjoy this person seems disingenuous. Personally at this point you're making the game for yourselves and your ego, instead of the millions of players who have supported both your studio, and your productions for years and even decades. They even had the audacity to advertise otherwise. Its like you knew people wouldn't like it, and yet you did it anyway.

I also can't get over the amount of flashbacks, it was tiresome. The mechanic makes everything chaotic.

Additionally the new characters served no purpose narratively and were just bland. I couldn't care for a single one. With no development of them, it was just vanilla, and when they died, I mostly didn't care. The only character I liked was Lev. He was probably my favourite and the most interesting/well built.

By the end, I'd given up and just wanted to see the ending, but I really didn't care. I was exhausted from forcing myself to try and enjoy it. The magic that existed in the previous title was missing. The whole concept of story driven narrative was lost like the final season of GoT - this game ultimately forgot what it was supposed to be.

For me, I'd have enjoyed playing as Ellie and Joel at the start, feeling that magic between them both and reminiscing on the good times we had, pure nostalgia. The first part of the game could be Ellie working with Joel, Tommy, Jesse and Dina, doing missions to support Jackson, exploring the world, levelling up, crafting cool stuff and enjoying awesome encounters, saving survivors, clearing out clickers, just a nice introduction to the characters, their stories, the world and the mechanics. Then, Ellie and Joel on a great adventure. You then split off for whatever reason and now you're alone exploring a new area, maybe the scars or another group. You could save Joel and abby, work together to escape, and go back to Jackson or the wolf camp, she's a friend of yours but she could even become the love interest instead of Dina - this makes later situations harder to deal with.

At this point abby figures out who joel is, stuff could happen and he dies in Epic fashion that tears at Ellie. The revenge plot begins.

You team up with Tommy, Dina and Jesse who then work with you to find abby and kill her. This group gameplay brings a whole new dynamic. You could even direct them to do things, reward the player with cool functionality.

Later you meet Lev. This is the perfect time to drop ideas into your head about forgiveness. You build a relationship, working forward and surviving (the key mechanic is survival, problem solving ways out of impossible to exit rooms with puzzles, camping in abandoned areas and setting traps for clickers etc).

Eventually you find abby, fight, and you get this forgiveness narrative in the end. Perhaps Lev gets involved and begs you both to stop.

For me, executed properly, this sort of narrative would've been a much more rewarding experience. It can provoke conflicting emotions, happiness, mourning, anger, forgiveness, all of it and ultimately be an enjoyable game without upsetting the player and forcing them down a journey kicking and screaming.

I'm gonna try to make this the most unbiased review of the game: first of all, this game doesnt deserve a 0/0 , and surely it doesnt deserve a 10/10.

Let me start with the bad side of the game, this game story is not bad per se, but the events in the game might be in a different chronological order than it should be, say for example, when a beloved character is in big trouble, you get to play a little with the character that creates the big trouble to the beloved character, and in that moment you have NO idea what the deal is or what the story behind all of this is, this is where, by placing some background story before the facts can help the storytelling be more justified.

Theres also the fact that some characters act out of character, Joel is more trustful, even though he's a hated man and he knows it, Tommy is reckless and impulsive, Ellie forgets how to be a warrior, gets nerfed of her strength (both mentally, like phisically), and the new characters, had so much potential to be more close to the player, but failed to achieve the connection to us.

Ok lets talk about the AI, your AI partner at times, is just useless, let me put it this way, they might as well were totally gone from the scenery and it would'nt matter, sometimes they can save you from enemy grabs, and sometimes (only sometimes), they execute a second enemy while you are executing the first one, but that's it, zombies forget they exist, you're on your own, basically.

The Controls, yup, i thought my controller was faulty, but no, you want to run? nope, you can't do it in this exact place, you want to jump? nope!... The back and forth controlling system this game has is pretty confusing, allowing us to run when the game wants us to, and jump too. This makes the pacing of the game way slower than it should be.

The last bad thing to me, are the open spaces with no use whatsoever: Have you ever been in a game scenary and you want to explore it, maybe there is something hidden in this corner or in this room, but no, there's nothing there most of the times, it's just an empty room, yeah, i know, it's a post-apocalyptic world, but hey, then don't create rooms for nothing, just close the door or something right? This point it's just my humble opinion, 'cause i haven't read about it anywhere else.

---Ok, now let me talk about the good things!

Graphics, awesome, the grass for example, was revolutionary to me, the treatment to the snow, every danm footstep was there, i know this might seem like no big deal, but the way we interact with the world is what gets us inside of it, yeah, the graphics are also a piece of art, everything was on point, there was one part in the game where i found an electric fan, which matched every single detail of one that i had in that room at that moment, that **** blew my mind.

Yeah, some facial expressions were all distorted, but even the slightest movement of an eyebrow, got the message across.

The gameplay was so good, i loved it, i loved how you could walk in crouch mode at the speed you wanted, literally, super slow, ultra slow, kind of slow, etc... I L-O-V-E-D I-T. I have to admit it was kind of awkward how the "Silent Executions" made so much noice, and how the hand to hand fighting parts had a weird camera angle everytime, but past that, i loved it, it was all about the reflexes and calmness of the player to succeed in a fight. I love to depend on hability and agility instead of button mashing.

It was nice having new mechanics in the game, i loved the parts where you had to run through obstacles and all, it was so thrilling.

in conclusion: i dont hate this game, i was rooting for it, i wanted it to succeed like the last one, but even the ending got me mad out of my chair, i really don't think the story is well thought out, but the game is just masterpiece material, you can't say the game is good, only because it plays good, it has to feel good to be great. End.

Decent enough game-play, phenomenal visuals, good score. Everything about this game is good, except for what matters most in story-driven games: The story. The story and the characters are an undeniable downgrade from the first game. Many illogical choices are made by the characters. If you care about the characters or the story, you almost certainly wont like this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ll start off by saying this game would be so much better if it was its own new, original game rather than a sequel to TLOU. TLOU sets high bars with beautiful storytelling that can be replayed over and over again and never get old, however TLOU2’s story was personally like torture. Certain parts were dragged out for no reason, certain scenes were added for seemingly no real purpose (like the sex scene, which it brief and is only spoken about once more after and then holds no real consequence) and it got hard to keep track of who was were, who was still alive, what time each event took place in, etc.

I loved TLOU because of Ellie and Joel. Their story was beautiful and heartbreaking and full of pain and danger as they survived in their living nightmare of a city. Their relationship was incredible to watch grow from to strangers trying to finish their job and get away from each other ASAP to a father/daughter love that we, the player, felt a part of. So when I heard of the sequel I knew Joel was likely going to die, but what I wasn’t expecting was how he died.

I think killing Joel off was a poor choice, at least this way. When I saw the teaser trailer showing Ellie playing the guitar and Joel coming in, I was under the impression she was out for vengeance, possibly over the murder of a dead lover and so she ran off to find her lover’s killer, to which Joel shows up partway through the game to help her despite his old age. I was expecting Joel to die towards the end (possibly by bite, making it even harder for Ellie since she’s immune), able to say his goodbyes to Ellie, with her obviously upset but thankful of the time they had together and they get a sweet farewell, similar to Telltale’s The Walking Dead season 1 finale, with the post credits showing that Ellie learned how to love again and started a family of her own. What we got was far from it. A few hours into the game Joel is murdered by bludgeoning by new characters. After seeing the teaser trailer I thought he’d survive, all I could think was “the trailer shows he’s alive, he has to live” as his kneecap is shot. I felt little emotion other than confusion as I watched him get beaten and eventually murdered. I honestly felt numb, and lied to. I felt the trailers tricked me, and from that point on it left a sour taste in my mouth for the rest of the game.

I didnt care at all for Abby. I did not care much for her reasoning, let alone to play through literal hours of her story that I hated. Naughty Dog tried to make me sympathise with her, to make her a hero, and I could care less for it. What makes it worse is that we get those hours of flashbacks within flashbacks right as Ellie and Abby meet again, with Jesse shot and Tommy at gunpoint. The only part I enjoyed about her story was Manny. I feel her reason for killing Joel would’ve been so much more powerful without the flashback and instead we get to see her and Ellie fight, with her declaring her reason for killing Joel was because he killed her dad. It could’ve been so tense and fit much better instead of the needlessly long flashbacks that made me lose all care for whatever happened next in the story.

Finally the ending. It’s revealed that Ellie and Dina have a son they’re raising and Tommy arrived with a lead of Abby, which the girls refuse to follow until Ellie decides to follow it, to which Dina for some reason says “I can’t do this again”. Throughout the game Ellie has killed so many people to get to Abby, she was worked her ass off to avenge Joel and finally has a chance to kill Abby and she doesn’t. She lets her live, and we are forced to watch as Abby escapes with the kid. Ellie later arrived home only to find everything gone, Dina has left with the baby and left Ellie’s stuff behind. The girl we watched grow as a person from TLOU1 until 2 has lost everything; Joel, Jesse, her home, her revenge on Abby, her fingers and then her family despite how hard she fought for it. She’s once again alone, leaving all her stuff behind to maybe explore the world and find a new home.

Finally, if you’re going to buy the game, get the physical version. I wish I could resell my game and get something out of it but I can’t since I got the digital version. I feel my €80 was wasted and would’ve rathered to just watch a play through. I feel it’s so poor because of the fact it’s a sequel, whereas again if this was its own new game it’s be incredible and maybe a 9/10 rather than the 6/10. Now I’m off to play TLOU and do my best to forget about TLOU2.

Graphics are the best that the PS4 will ever see, and if this game makes it to PS5 it'll still be one of the best looking games. "Levels" are incredibly detailed. The lack of multiplayer currently sucks.

I won't go too into detail about that story. All I'll say is it wasn't for me. I see what they were going for but it was executed poorly. Every point I could make has already been made by multiple content creators and independent critics. While there are a minority of people hating on the game just to hate and because of it's inclusion, every negative review shouldn't be written off like they are. The ending made me feel like everything I did was pointless. There are legitimate reasons to dislike this game. There are plenty of reasons to like it.

The game is also structured poorly. Right when things are starting to happen when you've got past the rising action and you're about to get to the climax, you're sent right back to the beginning and get another 10-15 hours of exposition and rising action again that ultimately leads back to the climax you were about to see 15 hours ago. I feel like if this game was reordered to be more chronological, it would have been much more well-received.

Without getting into spoilers, Naughty Dogs' blatant false advertising of what this game would be cannot be excused. They could have handled the situation better, and more clearly represented what the game would be without spoiling it.

I didn't hate the game. I also didn't love it. Some of the outrage is ridiculous. The game isn't a 0/10, it's no 10/10 either. It's a brave sequel. Just not what most people would consider a "successful" one. Things that made the first game so great to a lot of people, like Joel and Ellie's relationship is put on the back burner in favor of a subpar revenge/forgiveness plot. There are obvious plot holes that shouldn't be overlooked or excused.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First, the good: Graphics, Acting, World-Building and level-design are all 10/10, the facial expressions are on-point, being probably the best I've ever seen. That's it. The Bad: this game doens't shine where it's supposed to: the story. Is it *BAD* ? No... But it ain't good. Some decisions made by characters in the story's key points are simply too off-character. three examples: 1) Joel walking in a house full of strangers. This makes no sense. Joel is a hardcore apocalypse survival and he didn't survive over 20 years by trusting strangers like that, the first game makes that clear. 2) Abby sparing Ellie after losing all her friends. We're talking about a woman that remained obsessed for years with killing a man that murdered her father, to the point where she even took up body-building to make sure that if she ever got the chance, she'd make short work of it. And you're telling me that this very same woman meets the person that murdered: a) her lover, b) her friend who is pregnant with her lover's child and c) the rest of her friends who might as well be her family at this point, and she let's this person lives?! Did Gandhi's spirit possessed her or something? This makes no sense. 3) Ellie sparing Abby at the end. This is also complete BS for 2 reasons: a) **** Climax: Can you imagine playing God of War 3 only to reach the end and witness Kratos not kill Zeus? Yeah, this is what this game will give you. b) Completely Off-Character: Throughout game 1 and 2 of the franchise Ellie establishes herself as a pretty violent person (as anyone with the grit to survive in an apocalyptic world would have to be), she brutally murders a lot of people along the way (I can't remember her killing anyone who didn't deserve it either because they were evil or because they were attacking Ellie herself and thus making it a self-defense situation, but that's another matter), which proves that killing, at this point in time, comes naturally for her. She also carved her way through half a post-apocalyptic continent pursuing her vengeance only to give up at the very end? If this isn't off-character I don't know what is.
All of these three points could easily be fixed by: 1) Giving more screen time to Joel & Ellie, showing how life in Jackson has made him soft (bonus: this would also be a much welcome fan-service; since Joel and Ellie's relationship is what made the first game special). 2) Show Abby not getting what she expected from revenge. Show her learning that "Vengeance is a fool's game", as Arthur Morgan would say. Not only that, but the way she tortured Joel also took a toll on how her friends relate to her and so she learns from the fallout of her actions that she needs to change and then she vows to be different just before finding her friends dead... This still isn't enough to make her spare Ellie, but you can make their fight ending a draw-like situation where both parties give up since they are both too **** up from their fight. 3) Show the toll of killing a pregnant woman has taken on Ellie's life. She feels immense regret for it and she's just not the same anymore. She still goes after Abby and the player is given the choice whether or not Ellie kills Abby or not at the very end.

The last of us 2 is a game that well is quite confusing to review for me, the story is not the worst but it is meant to be the last of us 2, if it was a separate franchise it would be rated higher. the story is meant to be on par with the first game but it doesn't reach the bar. They even kill of Joel in the first HOUR of the game for what seems no real reason. I don't have a problem with him dying in the game, it's just that the way he did is something Joel wouldn't do.

the game is similar to the first game and doesn't innovate on anything 7 years later. most of the characters are bland and boring, nothing makes me want to care about abbey and her friends, it could have been done better but they just didn't do it. the only people I cared about were Joel, Ellie, Dina, Jesse and a little but Tommy. but then they kill Joel and Jesse, fake kill Tommy and do some dumb things with eille.

let's talk about the ending, it is the most unsatisfying thing I've ever seen in a game. in the end, you travel to California and are about to kill abbey then you have a flashback with Joel and then involuntary decide that even though they killed Joel, Jesse and made Tommy blind in one eye, you let her live. then she goes off into the sunset and lives happily ever after... I have never wanted more to break a disk, it's not like you can choose to kill her or not and it angers me. it took me 16 hours and 27 minutes to play this just to not kill the person the ridiculous revenge plot is based on. the game is not

this is not the worse game on earth like other people are saying buts it's not great either it could have been amazing but they decide to not but effort into making it.

However, the story reads like an unedited mess where the writer have interesting idea but the execution is absolutely terrible. While Abby has the potential to be a really interesting character they spend way too little time on both her backstory and giving her time to re-examine her own actions. Overall, it's a decent game that could easily have been a master piece instead if more care was taken with how the story is presented. Expand

While it's not great, it's not nearly as bad as people say. The first 10 hours are amazing. I really felt it was a worthy successor to the original game. The best parts of the game are those first 10 or so hours and all the flashbacks (especially the flashbacks). There are still cool moments in the ladder half of the game, I just didn't care for the characters or the story. I also liked the game play quite a bit. I don't know why people harp on it so much. Lastly, there really isn't any SJW garbage that has plagued this game since even before release. Or at least there's nothing that bothered me.
While the first half of the game is amazing and there are great moments throughout, The Last of Us Part 2 overall disappoints and is not nearly as good as its predecessor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I won’t go into the obvious good points of the game and jump right into what I didn’t like. The plot. If ND really wanted me and others to like Abby, they should’ve made her spare Joel (who had just rescued her from certain death), thus ruining their whole revenge idea for the rest of the game. What does this mean? They should’ve scrapped this terrible plot. Out of all the directions they could have taken this once great story, the direction they went was just incredibly bad. Why not make another dr/scientist character who was able to find a cure, only to fail at the end after Ellie willingly lets them kill her if you wanted to really tug at my heartstrings. That could have been a huge amount of gameplay if the goal in the story was to find the cure like it was last time. Other good ideas would include... having that creepy cult be full of immune people and purposely, even forcefully breeding to make more immune (pure) people and would better explain why they’d want to kill other people and having it revealed that the team with the scientist who may have a cure has been kidnapping and killing these immune people over and over to find the cure and failing before they even attempted it with Ellie. Then a revenge story would make sense. Dina and/or Joel, hell, even Abby would want revenge against them for lying to Ellie. Or the cultists could have kidnapped Ellie, discovering her immunity and trying to force her to breed. That would be a compelling story about rescue/and escape. If they had taken a different course, Abby could’ve been likable and even friends with Ellie. This entire thing was just a slog. I couldn’t believe I had to go through that huge traversal with Abby, knowing she was going to find her friends dead... where’s the suspense in that? I truly didn’t care about what I was doing for most of this game. I was really hoping to see some characters actually make more good decisions in this game. I don’t know why they decided to make most of the characters dullards with no emotional intelligence. Why not give them the ability to have conversations and empathy that could avoid violence. In the first game we see the separation of evil people and good people. Guy protecting spunky girl who reminds him of his daughter vs. cannibals and merciless highway robbers. In the end he makes a tough choice that puts him in a grey area, but those In this game we are forced over and over again to murder people who we don’t really want to because of nonsensical decisions. Sure it’s a complicated world with monsters around every corner, and no therapists, but Jesus, give us some hope for humanity. I was extremely disappointed by the events of this story. Bleak indeed. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Never thought id be the type of person to write a review like this for a game but here i go....

to start off, the graphics are very impressive and also the slight improvements to combat and stealth systems are very welcome but i think what the game lacks, and is quite important to the last of us is the story. i don't think the story is as bad as people say it is nor do i think it is better or even close to how good TLOU was. Is it fair to say the reason why people don't like the story is because of LGBT inclusion? absolutely not. i think it is ridiculous to say that people hate this game because of that. sure, it might be the reason that a VERY select few dislike the game but i feel this criticism of people who disliked the game has been completely blown out of the water. i would like to point out that i have no problem with gay people or trans people and i feel like i need to saw that which to me is also very ridiculous, it is very clear in The last of us DLC that Ellie is attracted to women, is that problem? no. is Abby being trans a problem? No, not at all. my problem with the use of a trans character in a game that is set 25 years into a zombie apocalypse, im fairly certin there are more important things to worry about than wanting to transition from male to female.

Talking more about what happens to Joel, i tihnk that it was fairly obvious that something bad was going to happen to him. of course he is a beloved character and nobody including my self wanted something to happen to him but unfortunately, thats the way it worked out. Joel definitly deserved to go out in a more fitting way for his character but what has been done is done.

    THE ENDING....

This for me is the reason why i decied to write this. is it a good ending? no, absolutly not. is it a bad ending? definitly not as bad as people are saying it is. of course people are entitled to their opinions of how the ending is but i feel like it is exactly how naughty dog wanted the game to end, no one really wins. Ellie can't play the geetar, she loses dina and the baby, she loses joel and id say she loses herself in that she is no longer the bright spark that we know her to be while she is younger. Abby too loses everything, she loses her friends, her love interest and her ties to what is practicaly her family (The WLF) and i feel that having this ending of Ellie leaving behind the guitar is pretty much leaving her past behind and she is walking away from it. one thing im scared of is seeing a TLOS part 3 which i hope is jesus never comes true as seeing Abby escape on the boat with lev makes me feel like this is what naughty dog are trying to do.

Now. i gave this game a very unstable 6 as i feel like TLOU Part 2 still manages to capture the emotion of how we feel about Joel and Ellie. i cried when Joel died and i the amazing flashbacks of Joel and ellie made me tear up every time i saw them, even now when i watch the museum one it really makes me tear up. overall 2 of the 6 rating is for the story, its not a bad story but it is not good. the other 4 for the rating is based on the graphics and gameplay, im not having these things as the main factors to my rating because as i mention TLOU and TLOU Part 2 are dependent on the story to bed good. bad story = bad game.

6/10 is my final score. good graphics, average gameplay and a fairly poor story but definitly not as bad as people say

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
