They wanted players to have a view of both Ellie’s and Abby’s story. It was great. But playing as what the players view as the “villain” for more than 5 hours is what made the game look like it was telling Abby’s side of the story rather than Ellie’s story. I think they should’ve created more events for the main protagonists (Joel and Ellie). Overall the gameplay, graphics and music are as impressive as the first game. Expand

If we talk about graphics well if you have a PC the game just looks normal, specially if you play Red Dead 2 with high end graphics. The game play is similar to the first game nothing special there. man where do I start the first part was one of my favorite games ever made, but the second one... Naughty Dog what have you done to this series, gameplay and graphics wise this games feels and looks awesome, story wise is really insulting, and underwhelming for us fans. WTH we wait more than half a decade for you to just give us a story where our beloved anti-hero protagonist gets such a crappy send-off? Make the game so political to the point that it made you question if you guys were just trying to score points with a group of people, instead of delivering a neutral enjoyable experience for everyone. To top it all off you give us an ending that leaves you feeling so empty that makes you not want to play it ever again. WOW, we are not review-bombing we are voicing our opinion to how misleading the trailers were compared to what we actually received.

It's brutal, cruel, it tears your heart away and stomps it, and is really mature. The script writers puts You in the tight rope and plays with your feelings till the point of making You feel bad for your (or the characters) actions. But it removes your guts as any other game have ever made. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I got about 10 to 12 hours into the unending, crushing depression that is the campaign before giving up, realizing I was just making myself miserable. The first game had humor, uplifting moments - and a real sense of HOPE throughout the storyline. None of that in this sequel - it honestly seems like this is the first draft of some very poor fan-fiction realized with a multi-million dollar budget. Written by someone with nothing but clear contempt for the original's characters - and more importantly, the audience.
While it looks amazing, it's just scenery. The actual game itself is largely IDENTICAL to the previous one - and that's a problem, considering the first was 7 years ago at the start of the PS3 generation. We find ourselves at the very end of the PS4 generation (this game is very much a swansong for the console) yet the game plays so similarly, it would be impossible to tell which game you were playing were it not for the poorly implimented jump button.
All the production values in the world mean nothing if it's in service of a bad story, and this one's a doozy. I can largely guarantee you will actively hate the storyline within 2 hours, yet you'll be expected to hang around for a further 20 in the shoes of a new 'character' who will happen to be the heart of why you hate the story. Ridiculous decision making from Naughty Dog, and proof positive that any previously beloved developer can absolutely **** the bed and start turning out absolute trashfires of games.

I completed the game and felt that it deserves a 9/10. After a few days of thinking about the game and seeing other opinions, I am giving it a 10/10. It is a masterpiece!

I went into TLOU 2 completely blind, without any spoilers, trailers, gameplay, leaks or anything out there before the release day. Personally, I prefer experiencing games, series, books and movies this way in order to enjoy the full experience as the creators meant it.

Back to the game, I am a big fan of the first game, I played it 4 times. I got the second game on release day and I loved it from start to finish. I wanted to explore as much as possible and It took me around 37 hours to finish it. After it, I wanted to see how the gaming community feels about it and how similar or different my thoughts compare to theirs. I started by watching critic reviews that turned out to be unanimously positive. After it, I proceeded to check the user scores and to my surprise it was averaging at 3.5 on Metacritic with more than 20k reviews in less than 2 days. This spiked my curiosity to understand this discrepancy, so I decided to read and listen to many opinions along several platforms like YouTube, News Articles, Metacritic.

It took me almost a week to go through the most relevant opinions I found. The majority of positive reviews dedicate time to analyze the different aspects in the game like story, technical achievements, innovations, gameplay, artistry, and so on. All this detailed analysis made me appreciate the game even more. On the contrary, the negative reviews rush to rant the one or two aspects they disliked and score the entire game based on that, which I consider it is an unrealistic way of evaluate a game so full of details.
For what I could see, you guys are the ones to blame for ruining the story for yourselves by over analysing teasers, trailers, leaks, and info out there. I don't need to delve into a review of the story myself. There are more than enough objectively made video reviews that show the master craft in the making of this game.

All this brought me to my conclusion and my updated score. I fully respect that we all can have different opinions, but when I see that 80% of user reviews give the game a 0/10 after just a few hours of it being released, I cannot trust what people are saying. The story can be interpreted in different ways and subjectivity has a big presence here, but that will not negate the professionally developed piece of art this game is. I am part of the digital entertainment industry and I appreciate all the hard work put behind this amazing game.

I recommend this game to anyone willing to go through a mature realistic depiction of a post-apocalyptic world full of danger.

I myself was fortunate not to see any spoilers beforehand, but it was geared up to be one of the worst sequels of the decade according to others. I’ll say this: TLOU2 is absolutely astonishing visually and gameplay wise. I felt immersed in the world they created with no mission marker, compass, etc. The graphics and land are crafted beautifully and the new ways Ellie and characters can navigate the world are creative and ever changing.

But let’s get to the meat and potatoes, the story: This game will only be impactful if you go into it with an open mind, in my opinion. It seems to many other players went into it having an agenda for what they wanted to happen, coupled with the fact they played as another character they had no intent of understanding, or cared enough to understand, which made for some bad reviews. Personally, this is far from the truth. The story is about redemption, revenge, love, and forgiveness, and as the final credits roll it leaves the player emotionally drained from the past 30 hours of unbelievable twists and turns. Ellie’s quest for revenge and tearing down everything in her path prove to be haunting to those she kills...and to her. In some areas, this game rivals its predecessor.

However, this game is not without flaws, and I can see why some do not favor this over the first one. The game slows in some areas, particularly as you start the second half of the game, and I can see why so many put down their controllers and gave a negative review, but I implore you to keep playing. I ask that you keep an open mind to the second half, and I promise that the end result will live up the same as the first game.

Finally, and I feel the need to add this because it because many have complained about this: TLOU2 is not a happy game. Every once in a while their are heart touching moments of hope and joy for the characters, but it ends up either being short lived or destroyed in front of them. The first one, while obviously not joy of a story or setting, had love and hope coated throughout the plot between Joel and Ellie, which made us feel more connected with them. Not this is not to say you can’t relate to any of the characters in this game (I felt more connected with the characters in TLOU2 than the first), but there are very few moments of joy after the first three hours of gameplay. have been gaming for over 20 years, and I have never felt as emotionally drained, conflicted, or flat out sad for characters in any game besides this one (including the TLOU1). If you are looking for a happier ride, keep looking, but if you want a a game with compelling parallels between two sets of characters that continues to captivate and impress until the credits role, this game is right up your alley. I see why some did not like it and I respect their opinion, but in my eyes, in most areas, this TLOU2 rivals the first, and did not disappoint in its 7 year wait.

The so called "opening up" of the game was for one area in the early game after that it's the exact same corridor gameplay as the last game only much much more of it, so much that it slows the feel of progression down dramatically, accentuated by the fact you don't want to be playing it after the first 15 minutes and then a new heavy wave of exhaustion hits at about the half way mark (around 15 hours). If they had kept to the open area idea they did in the start of this game it might have been different enough, but they choose not to.

Visual design and acting are the only things keeping this game afloat from a 0 imo, and normally i could give this game a 7 or 8 out of 10 if the direction of the story wasn't so horrendously bad. There are so many better ways Druckmann could have rearranged the telling of this story so that people didn't outright HATE one of the characters. There are so many ways the story telling of this game could have been written to enjoy it better, maybe not entirely because the most overwhelming feeling that seems oddly designed make you hate the characters you play. Granted a unique but un-enjoyable way to play a video game.

What was clear from the beginning; a story of love, vengence and Jewish history. I mean, there is SO much of the overtones and in your face Israeli-Palestine conflict and Jewish culture in this game I began to think it wasn't even about the main characters. It became just a bloody message of awareness to the middle eastern conflicts. I feel for the people lost in conflict and for those who feel so much hate in this world, and I enjoy a deep soul discovering story as much as the next person but forcing you to play as a character you hate is such a horrible way to experience a story much less to PLAY A GAME.

The writing for this game is on par with what i expect Naughty Dog to do, it does have a really good voice but I feel for the employees at Naughty Dog and the cast of this game, they did an amazing job and it's not their fault the direction of the game was so poorly designed, Niel Druckmann was just not reigned in by Bruce Straley this time. Clearly all the people leaving early in this games development were people that could not willingly fulfill the direction of this game either.

To Neil: It's your right to make the story what you want, it's not my right to say you shouldn't but you failed at providing an entertaining game, it's that simple.

To readers: if you really wont resolution to the Joel and Ellie story wait for this game to go on sale, it doesn't deserve the praise from critics or price it has.

Pros - Graphics, improved combat system, voice over acting, sounds, & difficulty+ replay (keep all gear & perks) overall gameplay is good especially through Ellie's 4 days in Seattle & Abby's hotel decent and lower hospital boss fight was awesome!

Cons - Length of game (should have cut out Abby's gameplay sections with just cut scene storylines instead.)
Story (Joel is removed from the game to soon. Ellie loses WAY to much for a young main character. Its hard to like Abby after the first stage of the game.) Overall though I did still enjoy the game as a whole, I just wished Ellie didn't lose as much as she did. Hope to see if things get better for her....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am truly disappointed. I really wanted to give the game a chance even after hearing about the leaks but the story is a failure.
It feels like the main goal of the game is to undo everything that happens in TLOU 1. They completely butchered Ellie and Joel. All of that for nothing....

Joel death is meaningless. It is just here so the main story can start, and this is lame. An apocalypse veteran who is trusting a group of unknown people ? Is it really the same guy who was able to cross all the country to bring Ellie to the fireflies ?
But you know what? Even after that, i said to myself, i'll bite. His death can't be for nothing. We can still get something good out of it. A good story, a good ending.

I have never been so wrong. The part with Ellie was correct. She is my favorite character so i have this going for me. But then, i have to play Abby ??? A character almost everyone hated after 2hours in game, and for 10 hours ??? And on top of that, the game forces me to BEAT ELLIE UP ????? No no no. This is where i draw the line. This is just a total disrespect to the fans. I am forced to play a character i hate and hurt the character i love.

All of that for a revenge that doesn't even happen. Yes, ND even rob us from this satisfaction.

I get the point that playing Abby's story was supposed to make us sorry for her. It just doesn't work...

In the end, Joel is dead , Ellie is alone, and on the other hand Abby gets her revenge and her good ending. Imagine the feelings going through this story after coming out of TLOU1.

I still want to salute the game visuals, the sound and the actors who are really flawless. But thats unfortunately not enough to make up for this poor story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only good part of the game is graphics, so big thumbs up to the graphics team, you are the only reason I'm giving the game any points... And by the way, I'm sick and tired of people saying "You need to grow up" or "You're not intelligent enough to understand the meaning of the game"... These are the only things fan boys can bring up against negative critics, and actually they are the ones that just simply can't accept the fact that the game is full of mistakes, on almost every level. Don't get me wrong, I am a big Naughty Dog fan, I LOVE the Uncharted series too, and I absolutely loved the first episode of the Last of Us, and it's always going to be one of my favourite games, but at this point I just wish Part 2 was never even made. But then again, this is only MY OPINION, if there are people that actually like it, I'm honestly happy for it and wish them a lot of fun playing it, but as for me I will just pretend that there is only one Last of Us game.

Edit: After submitting it I realized that this is not a "proper" review where I say my opinion on the game and mention the things I didn't like and why didin't I like them, but everything that I could say about it was already written by about 70% of the negative reviews on this page, but here is a quick going through: I understand, that this is not a "typical fun" game, where everyone survives and the game ends with a happy ending, and at some point I even like it, it just makes it even more realistic. (Now, if you are going to keep reading, you'll run into some spoilers, so if you don't want anything spoiled, click away!).

I think it's safe to say that Joel was almost everyone's favourite (or second favourite, after Ellie) character. At some point I even understand why they killed him, because this is the "motivation" for Ellie to go on a revenge mission. But what's bothering me is that they did it in such a disrespectful way, and also in like the first hour of the game (or second, depending on how fast you play it). But let's just say that even this can be understandable (not for me though). After this, at a certain point in the game, you have to play with Abby... Even if you somehow can manage to gather the strength to continue playing the game, you are most likely going to do so with absolutely no fun. I know it was said that "this game is not about fun", but there shouldn't even be parts that players absolutely hate, there is a big difference in those two things. Even if they made an explanation about Abby's story, to make it understandable why she did what she did, most players won't really care, because they will look at her with hatred and will have absolutely no fun playing with her nor any willing to learn how to like her character. And just the whole story, about Ellie going through hundreds of men and women, killing all of them just so that she can get to Abby, and then in the end when she could take her revenge she actually leaves her alive, it just makes the whole game pointless, because everything you did, everything Ellie end everyone else has lost was for absolutely nothing.

Again, this is only MY OPINION, You don't have to feel the same way, as a matter of fact, if you feel otherwise, I'm genuinely happy, but don't start with all that "You don't like the Last of Us Part 2, so you must be an idiot, who is not mature or intelligent enough to understand the story" or the "You only say bad things about it because that's what everyone else does".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and as a woman, I must say that this game so obviously intended to push a political agenda that only succeeded in leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth and an emptiness in my soul. The first Last of Us was a masterpiece. You bond with Joel, a broken man who makes the hard decisions in this apocalypse, which are oftentimes selfish in nature. You then get to watch as he slowly opens his heart to Ellie, a young girl who represents the last hope for humanity and who obviously values life. You witness their worlds collide and how they shape one another to achieve that dynamic duo that we as fans adored and held dear to our hearts. By the end of the game, you question Joel's actions, and although saving Ellie was selfish, it made sense. The world had already taken his biological daughter away from him, so he took the world's last hope away in return. It was a brutal conclusion, but it was satisfying because it was so relatable. He had come to love Ellie as his own daughter, so it made sense that he would do everything in his power to keep her by his side. The Last of Us Part II fails on all accounts in achieving this level of storytelling.

As far as graphics, sound, and all the mechanical pieces- yes, Part II surpasses the first game, because of just how visually stunning it is. It truly is a beautiful game, but that is where my praise ends. Story-wise, I can't even begin to explain all of the issues in this text box. The game tries to demonize Joel, and it is done in such a way that it is honestly laughable and a slap in the face to all fans who had adored the father-daughter bond that had developed in the first game. We recognize that he was never a hero, but everything he did in the end was out of love for Ellie. Which does not make him a good man necessarily, but it made him RELATABLE. Their bond made the Last of Us what it was, and that bond is erased entirely within the first two hours of Part II gameplay in the most violent, disgusting and demeaning way possible. We all expected Joel to die in this game, but the way that it was done was so disrespectful to the entire fanbase that the creators should not be shocked at this backlash. He was a survivor with two decades worth of experience, and he just allows himself to be surrounded in an unknown location? The man who spotted an ambush a mile away and hit a hunter with his truck? The man who refused to give his name upon first meeting Sam and Henry just says, "Hi, I'm Joel" to strangers? This death scene was done purely for shock value and out of laziness. And then they have the audacity to even spit on his corpse. Not only that, but then we are forced to play as the woman (Abby), who had bashed his skull in, for 10+ hours of the game. A section that uses the most basic of psychological tactics to manipulate you to try and sympathize with her to understand her perspective, and it fails- miserably. The entire game tries to paint Abby as this saint who was wronged by the evil Joel, and then tries to twist Ellie's character to make her as unlikeable as possible. You pet puppies with Abby, and then kill dogs with Ellie. You save children with Abby, and kill pregnant women with Ellie. It's so obvious what the creators were trying to pull and it does not work.

Abby gets her revenge by killing Joel, yet she gets a happy ending by running away to an island with her newfound little brother. Ellie ends the cycle of revenge by sparing Abby, but has lost everything and her fear from the first game has come to fruition. She is all alone. Joel is dead, her friends are dead, Tommy hates her, Jackson is against her, Dina (her love interest) abandons her with the baby, and on top of it all- Abby bit off her fingers, so she can't even play guitar. The last connection she has to Joel. The whole "revenge is bad" and "look, violence gets you nowhere" is being preached at every corner and the message does not succeed because our little girl is left with nothing in the end even though she was the one to "forgive".

Either way, it honestly makes NO sense for Ellie's character to spare Abby at the last minute. She cut down hundreds of people to get to the woman who took away the man who cared for her, only to back out because "oh yeah, forgiveness is better"? No. This is not profound. This is infuriating, and exhausting. This game is exhausting. Everything that made the first game superb is stripped away in Part II and it shows. It has turned into a game solely about inclusivity, representation, and a questionable form of women empowerment where all the men die- which leads to the raw nature of the apocalyptic world formed in the first game to morph into a political classroom with infected popping in every now and then. If they were going to do it, they should have at least been clever about it and integrated it into a beautiful story and not in this dumpster fire that attempts to evoke depression in every individual exposed to it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I created this account just so I could leave a review for this game...I will probably never leave another review. I just finished the game and I think the user reviews are ridiculously unfair for a number of reasons. I do think that the first game was better overall, but by no means is this the "worst video game of all time," as so many other reviewers have written. My only major complaint was that I found the character movements to be a little cumbersome. For a game released in 2020 that has been in development for this long, I expected it to be a little smoother. That said, I otherwise enjoyed the game, but I want to address some of the common reasons others are review-bombing this game. If you don't care about my opinion (and really, why should you?), then feel free to stop reading here. If you are interested, hopefully I can provide some insight below (this part will contain spoilers and is LONG...sorry):

    1. A lot of people are mad that they killed Joel, but I really don't care; he's a fictional character from a single game. Video games and other media kill/write off characters all the time and replace them with new ones. I can't say I wasn't a little shocked/disappointed at first, but as I kept playing, I thought it fit fine within the narrative. Nobody freaked out and review-bombed Endgame when they found out Tony Stark was killed, and that guy was in way more releases within his universe (10) than Joel was in the Last of Us universe (1). I would just say don't invest so much emotional weight in a fictional character.

    2. Another reason people are mad is the Abby character. Again, I really don't have an issue with this character. Yes, she seems like the villain early on, but I think as the game continues, it is clear that there are no heroes or villains. Abby got revenge on Joel for what he did to her father. Ellie then goes on a quest for revenge against Abby (and others) for what she did to Joel. Both playable characters make questionable choices and I really don't think either was ever intended to be labeled as hero or villain (and I think this is also true in the first game with Joel...yes he is the protagonist, but I don't think he was a "hero;" he basically doomed all of humanity to save the life of a single person). I personally liked playing as both Abby and Ellie, because it allowed the user to see both sides of the story.

    3. The last thing that some seem to be complaining about is the issue of gay/transgender characters. I suspect that many more of the negative reviews are about this issue than let on in their comments. A lot of people have been saying things like the story/plot is bad, but that is a load of crap. As far as video games go, it's still above average. It's not as good a story as the first game, but it's certainly not a bad one. I suspect that a lot of reviewers, rather than say something others may condemn as homophobic, just cop-out and say the plot is bad instead of sharing their real feelings. Other reviewers are more direct and just admit they hated the game cause they felt like a "gay agenda" was being pushed. Again, this is a load of crap. You can have gay characters without having a political agenda. I think too many reviewers are letting their own political views and biases get in the way and are doing too much "reading between the lines." In the end, it's just a video game...I don't think anyone is trying to push an agenda or make you feel a certain way about gay rights or gay culture. If you play this game and that IS the impression you get, I think that's more on you than on the game, and you should consider pulling your head out of your bum to get a better perspective.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, I usually don't write reviews but I've been playing Naughty dog games since the year 2013 and loved it, My First Naughty Dog Game was The Last of Us, and it still is a masterpiece,
Just finished playing Last of Us 2,
And I think it's not worth it and definitely, not at a masterpiece,
This time Naughty Dog botched up the story, without hearing to the fans that were so much excited about this game, and I was one of them.
Gameplay, Sound, Graphics are all awesome and really like playing it but for what,
The STORY does not have a conclusion and neither does the starting, on how the game does it with its most beloved character.
Here is what I felt after playing the entire game:

    # Why keep crying and remembering the main character (that you loved him so much) and Giving him death in the first place.
    * Decent gameplay from this main character to the end of the game was expected
    # The First part of "Last of Us" makes us think about the decision that Joel has taken in the end, and even now, it's debatable. I shook me for one week after I played it.
    * Part 2, does not have any impact, except Its gameplay, which I can play in multiplayer factions anytime, plus its ending seemed like a typical movie ending which was not so hard to figure.
    # in the first part I liked bonding between two characters, like Tom and Jerry, Chip and Dale, etc
    * Here two don't have access to Second Character.

In the Ending when Joel Said: "If somehow the Lord gave me a second chance at that moment... I would do it all over again".

And that's what we wanted and I think most of the fans will agree with me,

This Game could have been much better but don't know what the Studio was thinking about,
they made it worse like Game of Thrones ending, I think its goodbye to last of us franchise.
Really Enjoyed past 7 years playing

The story is provocative, challenges you to try and handle difficult emotions, takes you to very dark, uninviting places, both literally and metaphorically, and invites you to try challenge your previous assumptions.

Yes,things happen that are just plain sad and hard to accept, and having to play abby is emotionally hard at first, but if you do so open minded, it could surprise you.

Gameplay was improved, graphics are top notch for consoles, the exploration feels rewarding, stealth is pretty cool, AI is a bit better, accessibility options are the best ever and enemy variety is pretty nice now.

Honestly, haven't been able to play anything else after finishing this game, still digesting it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. aside from the obvious split in opinions based on what happens in the game, The Last Of Us Part II showcases one of the most visually appealing games in PS4 history along with some great audio design and an enjoyable, though somewhat tedious, gameplay. when playing a video game like TLOU2, you got to understand that this is Naughty Dog's story to tell, not your own story to create. there is nothing a user can do to change the 25 hour-long story that ND spent years to present. I respect the bold choices the studio made to break away from the happy endings and fan services that many video games still fall victim to. the story might have been depressing, violent and full of hate as ND claimed long before the game's release and leaks (possibly the worst thing to happen to this game, I am sure more people would be on board with Abby's character if it weren't for the leaks) but at the end of the day, a story that involves hundreds and thousands of deaths, including characters we love, was inevitable in the world Naughty Dog built throughout the first TLOU and I am still excited to see what direction ND takes in TLOU3 based on what happened in this game. Overall, I am just as satisfied with TLOU2 and I was with TLOU in a totally different way, and the amount of both justified and unjustified hate this game is receiving from the general public is disappointing to me. imo.. making the vaccine should've been ellie's choice but since she was drugged, it was joel's choice, he is the one who traveled half across the country with her, he is the one who protected her & they bonded together, he was like a father to her.
it wasn't marlene's choice, and sure as hell it wasn't Jerry's *The doc* choice either so both of them can go die or wtv.
what he did was kinda justified because he was just protecting his "daughter" the only person who cares about in this world & when this doc tried to stop him, joel had no choice but to shoot him.
so joel is on the right side here not this stupid doc or his daughter.
on top of that, joel saved abby's life and she kills him anyways & at the ending if it wasn't for ellie, abby would have died there bec she was tied up, basically joel and ellie saved her abby's life TWICE like wtf
other things that i didn't like is..
almost none of these new characters had a backstory which is just stupid lol *except for abby ofc haha"
i don't like how they won't lot you choose or do anything, you just keep playing until you reach this stupid ending, like if it was up to me to choose i'd have stayed at the farm & that's almost good ending to me..
i also don't like how they edited the storyline idk that for sure but "Official Story Trailer" looked different from the final game so yeah..
i also think that naughty dog is one of the best studios out there, but i don't think i'm going to trust them or buy any games from this studio anymore until they kick "neil druckmann" out & i'm pretty much done with pre-ordering games.

my rating to this game would be

    Graphics 8/10
    Locations 5/10
    Story 1/10
    Characters 3/10
    Gameplay 9/10

this game takes about 25 hours to finish it, half of them are wasted because of "locked doors" and trying to find a way in, fighting infected, & trying to find materials, it can be really boring.

i just finished the game so i'm sorry for any grammar mistakes, english isn't my first langauge so yeah..
i'm still processing this stupid sad ending can't believe i've waited 4 years for this bs..

Fed up with the hate/review bombing. This game is great! A worthy sequel. Certainly not a 10 but certainly not a 1. Yes the story made some risky choices but I respect the hell out of that. This feels like a sequel to me. It's a tragedy story through and through. Some people cant handle that.

Making a real review for this game with spoilers (aka not a meme review):

The gameplay works for me, it doesn't really have to be revolutionary. The story is really spotty, Joels death makes the part of the game with Abby not really enjoyable, and it makes the story kinda irrelevant. Personally i think that if i would be with Ellie throughout the game i think i would like the game much

The story is really spotty, Joels death makes the part of the game with Abby not really enjoyable, and it makes the story kinda irrelevant. Personally i think that if i would be with Ellie throughout the game i think i would like the game much more. I am actually going to try to play the game with just Ellie by jumping over the Abby part right now and and forget the part with Abby, and see if the game becomes better.

Thank you for reading the mini review :)

Awesome game, but not for everyone. As Neil Druckman said in an interview, you will either love it or hate it. Nevertheless, if you enjoy the gameplay of the first game, you are in for a treat with this one.
Again, if you are a sensitive person and think the story should go as you want, then by all means play something else with that option. This is a linear game and it is Naughty Dog's

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. STORYLINE: I enjoyed the game for about 2 hours into it. Then IT happens. Death is understandable in a game with an apocalyptic setting. It can be sad but still illicit a positive experience to the player. Flashback to FF7 when Aerith meets the grim reaper with an 8 ft blade. It was traumatic yet it didn't leave a horribly bad aftertaste by the end of the game. In TLOU2 though, it felt unnecessarily rushed. Like someone couldn't wait to get rid of one of the characters. Then to make matters worse, you have to play as the character who ended such a beloved one from the 1st game. The theme of revenge is done relatively like any other game or movie before, and it doesn't really make the player feel much excitement to see what happens next. It starts becoming boring and predictable. At least until the end where they throw you another curve ball to ruin yet another character from the 1st game. You're left with a sense of what was the point of all of this? In the 1st game, you had a clear goal. The twists and turns to reach it all fit together nicely, until the end where they also throw you a curve ball to the story. But unlike the 1st where there was a purpose to the actions that led to the end, in Part 2 the player is left with a strong feeling to scream "WTF was the point of all this!?". The story is severely flawed. The ending leaves you with nothing, and worse it tarnishes the legacy and choices made by the end of the 1st game. Expand

I went through this journey without watching any spoilers, and I've to say it was an emotional story with a lots of feelings, the narrative was spectacular and character development it simply destroys every other game, this game is a real cinematographic masterpiece. This game is about how this revenge takes everything away from you, and how humanity is! but the message is that sometimes the right decision is the most painful like leaving abby alive at the end or the decision that Joel took bring him joy from some amount of time, the decision abby took, it destroy her life and she became as Joel was. Ellie took her decision to stop this path. Expand

The amazing graphics can't make up for the poorly written story where characters don't even act or do things they would in the original game like when Joel starts trusting stranger's out of nowhere and gets killed for it! Then the game forces you to play as unlikable people for the game. Dunno what happened but it was a pain to play Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics and character design are amazing. Gameplay was good but after a while it felt monotonous. I liked there was a new kind of infected. Also loved the inclusivity. Now, I think getting rid of the main character as literal garbage in the second hour of gameplay is a really bad idea. We looked up for joel in the first game as our father and it's death wasn't commemorative as we hoped it would. I don't think having a 10 hour gameplay as his killer is good, it felt forceful and disgusting. Is like if nothing ever happened. Literally abby never felt remorseful, she is a psychopath and a killer and no matter how many kids she saved, the player always has in mind what introduced the character. When I knew.a 10 hour abby was going to happen, I immediately didn't want to play anymore,. Now, the ending didn't resolve anything, allie completely destroys her life for nothing and Abby didn't get to pay. I don't think if joel was in her place he would have let abby live.. Also, the relationship between Ellie and Dina was cute, but it was forced. I think in a game you should explore deeper connections,. Weed and sex are definitely not deep at all.. I expected so much more. Expand

Shame on Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog for butchering the last of us, I fully completed the game and the whole story is utterly unbearable bad... With unlogical choices from the main characters. Technically game play and creativity the best I have played, but whoever came up with the story needs a golf club to the head.

This game is incredible, gameplay is fluid and can be an all out blood soaked shooter or sneaky stealth masterpiece. I personally loved the story and how dark and heartless it is. It seems most of the overwhelmingly negative reviews are just people who didn’t understand the story or are mad it didn’t go the way they wanted. If you liked the first game you will love this one.

The game in my opinion was amazing and I would've considered it a 10 if the pacing was right, to me it felt like a mistake that we went from Ellie all 3 days then to Abby's 3 days, I think originally it was supposed to be you play each day back to back. For example at the end of the first day after Dina reveals she's pregnant Ellie falls asleep, the start to the first day for Abby was her waking up. I think if it was done like that it would be a 10 for me Expand

Но все разбилось для меня, когда заставили играть за Эбби. Игра из last of us 2 превратилась в игру по мотивам. Атмосфера на месте, качество на месте, но нет связи с персонажем. И для last of us это критично.

The story jumps all around the story's time line which isn't confusing but it distracts you enough from the new characters that you just don't feel connected to any of them. As a sequel it looses touch with the first game and the characters feel like they all suddenly became retarded out of nowhere. A game with good mechanics and graphics but a very poorly executed and terribly written story is a bad game in the end if it leaves you unsatisfied in the end then it's a bad game. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
