    Just finished the game. Love the story, graphics, acting, sound and music, environments, the contrast Between brutal violence and lovely emotional scenes. I’m very impressed by what Naughty Dog has pulled off here. Masterpiece.

    **** happens. Sometimes people you love die and oftentimes it's in the most inglorious ways. Sometimes you fall off some random ladder or get stabbed by some random mook you don't even know. This game is REAL. Revenge is cliche, but guess what? That **** happens in life and no matter how cliche it is it doesn't stop happening. "Revenge is bad". People say that's an obvious point, but**** happens. Sometimes people you love die and oftentimes it's in the most inglorious ways. Sometimes you fall off some random ladder or get stabbed by some random mook you don't even know. This game is REAL. Revenge is cliche, but guess what? That **** happens in life and no matter how cliche it is it doesn't stop happening. "Revenge is bad". People say that's an obvious point, but apparently it's not because it happens every damn day. How long has it been since someone flipped you the bird while you're driving down the road, a week? Is that cliche? **** yes but it still happens. So the least you can do is ask why it happens over and over day after day and on every damn reddit I've seen in the past week.

    What we can gain from games isn't a more sophisticated palette or recognition of our tirelessly exercised skill. We gain experience which influences how we behave and thought for how we can better live our lives. You don't get that from what you want to see. So quit your whining and LOOK for what you can gain from this experience.    … Expand

Я и сам люто батхертил всю 2ую половину игры, однако это не значит что игре нужно ставить 0 и 1 , народ вы совсем рехнулись ?

Первая половина игры подарила кучу эмоций и за это я благодарен разрабам. Ставлю 10 чтобы разбавить идиотов ставивших 0. В целом первая половина игры 10/10, вторая половина 4/10. в среднем ниже 7 эта игра явно не заслуживает. 5.7 user score явно занижен.    … Expand

    Even though I would not call the story "perfect" (in opposite to Part I) I think this is the greatest game I've ever played. In all technical aspects it's obvious. But the way TLoU2 provokes thought is unrivaled.

    If you are open-minded you will love this game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got this game yesterday as a pre-ordered game from GameStop yesterday. I must say that the story is emotional and gloomy. It's emotional like story parts in a soap opera TV show. At the very beginning of the game once Joel tries to get Ellie's attention to sing her a song, it shows that he has love for her. The sound that Joel made creates emotions torwards the characters. The graphics are triple a based graphics with so far no frame dropping due to unbalanced character movement pacing. This game has combat for evasive combat for defensive just like sekiro has L1 to block attacks so to dodge is just effective as the offense in sekiro to show off your defensive attacks to enemies. Overall so far I'm enjoying this game as I ransack abandoned buildings in the snow for health cocktails like I loved doing in days gone. Great job Neil Druckmann and the entire Naughty Dog Cast.… Expand

For a comparison, in the film industry, you have the illustrious Oscars. The best movie award is an achievement of top master craft. The Games Awards is something Geoff Keighley has built up well, but it does not have quite the esteem to the general populace that the Oscars do.

    The Last of Us Part 2 is a game that has the kind of levels of quality to be that kind of level of game for the games industry, that is, an all time great.

    The game is about love, hate, revenge, forgiveness, and letting go among other things. The creator said it’s about revenge but that was being tight lipped to not spoil things before release, I suggest people listen to the Kinda Funny spoiler podcast with Neil, Ashley, and Troy for insigh.

    This game is also set during 3 days for the majority of its time,

    I may come back and write up an even more thorough review, but I want to speak to the hate toward the game.

    Some people have subjective takes on the gameplay or story elements that the game is just not their style. That’s fine. Unfortunately there is a troll/hate train on this game for varieties of reasons. One, Neil and Naughty Dog are being accused of being SJW and having a political agenda. Just because a studio is more liberal and wants to tell stories with characters we typically don’t see does not mean there is a nefarious purpose. This has generated heat.

    Additionally,, things happen in the story people just don’t like. Joel dies, You play as the person who kills Joel. Through the process of all the hatred and killing and loss Ellie ultimately does not kill Joel’s killer when given the chance.

    That’s simplifying a very engaging gaming storyline with great characters, immense action, and tons of suspense.

    Those who don’t “like” some of the direction of the story are mistaking their emotions with actual quality. The game is extremely well written with some exceptions. Example: in killing people Ellie drops a map. On said map, she has their hideout obviously circled. This is one thing I agree with naysayers on, that is a little too convenient to the story of their hq being found.

    One small example but a majority are people just hating because they don’t like the direction.

    Others try to say there is no character development which is silly. Both protagonists develop quite a bit, one character who is great devolves by the end, and many, many people die. Flashbacks do a big part of the development for more essential characters and as I stated in the beginning - the game main,y takes place over 3 days - if you are expecting development for supporting characters in a 3 day time period you are crazy. The characters had well defined personalities and those given the screen time were fantastic.

    Particularly fantastic was the brother/sister combination of Lev/Yara. Prerelease people thought Abby (I had stepped around her name until now but she kills Joel) was going to be trans because she is muscular. Lev is actually trans, born into TLOU2 word perceived as female by her group but he is a male. Dina is an awesome love interest for Ellie and both (Abby and Ellie) are surrounded by a variety of fun supporting characters in Tommy, Owen, Manny, Mel, and Jesse. There are some more characters but those are ones with more screen time.

    There are no heroes in The Last of Us. Joel was a Hunter in a past life before smuggling and meeting Abby. He committed horrible acts before we played as him. He also killed a whole hospital of Fireflies and stopped the cure. (I have no regrets there).

    Abby is no better by brutally killing Joel.

    Ellie is not any better by tracking down and killing Abby’s friends either.

    Moral ambiguity, grey area, etc. is the world of this show. There is no good versus evil.

    It reminds me of our extremely divided times here in the US. I see a comparison in the left vs the right in Ellie bs Abby. A vicious cycle back and forth where no one is really winning and so man6 peop,e are so laser focused on getting that next chunk out of their opponent that they aren’t stopping to consider how they can heal themselves and the world. Just as those offended by this game feel the need to go on hateful rants about it.

    Speaking of the hate - look at the #’s. God of War with 13,000 submissions for ratings. This game is over 80,000 or soon there! Craziness.

    I do believe the game effected people emotionally enough to drive more reactions than GoW, but 80,000 and barely even out? There is an agenda of hate here. With the growth of social media we have trolls and haters who just get their rocks off on hating. Whether they truly hate something or take pleasure in piling on, it’s a fact.

    Again, people can have subjective dislikes and not be in this hateful group.

A história é simplesmente horrível, mas foi isso que os desenvolvedores quiseram nos passar, e foi feito com maestria. Ninguém queria que o Joel morresse, ou que Tommy ficasse cego, ou que a Ellie terminasse sozinha, ou ter que jogar com a Abby por horas, mas não consigo tirar o mérito dos criadores. Mexer com os nossos sentimentos era o que eles queriam, e conseguiram.     Certes après deux heures de jeu on assiste à la mort de Joël, une mort qui m'a bouleversé tant j'aime ce personnage. Pourtant j'ai appris à apprécier et vraiment aimer Abby.
    Abby a ruminée sa vengeance pendant des années et s'est finalement vengée, elle a tuée Joël c''est vrai mais elle n'a tuée que lui alors qu'Ellie a tuée tout le monde sur son passage.
    La fin est d’ailleurs équivoque.... Abby, après avoir été épargnée par Ellie s'enfuit avec Lev et Ellie se retrouve seule, quittée par Dyna et son fils à cause de sa soif de vengeance.
    Là où Naughty Dog a réussi c'est en nous démontrant que les gens ne sont ni blancs ni noirs, peu importe à quel point nous les avons aimés par le passé. A titre personnel j'aime mieux Abby que Ellie et j'ai adoré ce deuxième opus.    … Expand

Ultimately this is a game about two characters on opposing sides hitting rock bottom and embarking on a fool's revenge errand perpetuated by the blind hate they've acquired from losing the ones they've loved. How far is too far is the biggest theme explored, so try not be be attached to too many characters, because at some point the actions of the protagonists (or antagonists depending on your perspective) are going to bring darkness upon everyone. Abby and Ellie both hit absolute rock bottom in their revenge quests and the game really explores both both women ultimately ruined their lives seeking something they realistically could never achieve cleanly; justice.

    There's way too much nuance for me to get into detail, but this game requires you give a chance to see and understand both perspectives.    … Expand

    After 32 hours I finished the game and I was unable to find a single flaw. Any criticism made about this game is senseless and often becomes ridiculous, proving obvious problems with things like accepting homosexuality as a normal thing.

    You MUST play this. A true masterpiece and a PERFECT sequel to the first The Last of Us.

En lo personal la narrativa me gusto mucho primera ves que un juego logra generar tantas emociones y tan diversas .

    el problema es la mayoria de las personas se dejan llevar por el cliche de el prota debe tener una muerte honorable.     I replayed The Last Of Us remastered the week before part 2 released so it was very easy to compare the two. The original is a 10/10 but does have its flaws. I forgot how little dialogue there actually is between Ellie and Joel and how much of the game is spent running around in silence. I have heard a lot of people saying they loved the first game but hated the second one; yet many of the flaws they passionately criticize in this new release are very much present in the original. Personally I thought part two was a very smart continuation of the story that answered many questions from the 1st game. It also provided ample fuel for speculation and discussion, similar to the ending of the original. Having played both games back to back, I can say that they actually match up well and are directly intertwined in fundamental ways that I found satisfying as a longtime fan of the original.

    I took my time with this game and it is a BIG game. The amount of content provided blows away almost all similarly priced games and delivers an exceptional amount of value for $60. Coming from someone who thought Uncharted 4 was a blast but ended too suddenly, the scope of the Last of us 2 allows you to fully immerse yourself in the world. The documents and collectibles available in the game are actually fun and engaging this time around, and seriously help to flesh out the story and add atmosphere. Collectibles were a major disappointment in the original and I was thrilled to see Naughty Dog put much more effort into them this time around. I enjoyed exploring every single zone to fully take in the visuals and discover hidden secrets, and it felt rewarding to do so.

    Speaking of visuals, this game is stunning from beginning to end. It is by far the best looking game of this generation and even people who hate the story can't help but praise how damn good this thing looks. The frame rate remains silky smooth even in the largest open spaces and during frantic combat. Not once did a technical glitch break my immersion and I always felt fully in control of my character. The variety of locations and color pallets will make you stare in awe, sometimes for minutes at a time.

    After replaying the original, it was clear to me that combat needed improvement. Part 2 improves upon the original's game play in almost every way. It is tense and brutal, but also carries with it a huge amount of variety and player choice. Your character has much more momentum and when your stealth plan breaks down, you can sprint and hide and ambush even in the heat of battle. The game also features an incredibly good checkpoint system that consistently updates your progress mid encounter, but that will also allow you to completely start over if you wish. Restarting from your checkpoint takes less than 2 seconds which allows you to easily rectify a missed headshot that alerts the whole camp. I found myself using this feature often so that I could play through each encounter in a way that felt tactical and satisfying. I never lost more than a minute of progress and load times were basically nonexistent. Although the combat is some of the most realistically portrayed violence in a game, it never felt too over the top or in bad taste. If you shoot someone in the head they die instantly; if you shoot someone in the neck it is also an instant kill but they sputter and choke for a few seconds before falling silent. It added a certain realism but never made me feel uncomfortable. I actually had fun much the same way adults enjoy a good R rated movie such as gladiator for realistically portraying violence.

    Finally to address the story. It is complicated, non-linear and gives the player many opportunities to draw their own conclusions and make their own judgments. I must mention that this ambiguity was openly praised in the original, and what made the original's ending so good is undeniably present in part 2. Personally I found the story mature, heartfelt, tragic, and believable. I didn't cry the way I did during parts of the original, but I very much enjoyed the expertly crafted tale. You will not end this game with a feeling of "OMG I have chills" such as I felt upon completing Bioshock Infinite or the original TLOU. Instead this story is very much a sum of its parts that leaves you pondering and recalling details long after completion. I felt a little let down by the end, but the longer I think about it, the more everything seems to tie together into a masterful work of art. It is not perfect, but is so carefully crafted that I don't feel in a position to point out a specific change or flaw, for doing so would potentially ruin the cohesive tale and emotional impact of the game.

    In conclusion, very few games match the high bar Naughty Dog has set. If you absolutely hate exploration, looting, 3rd person shooting and complicated stories I can understand a 8/10 review.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really scared of playing this game. I already knew 3 key parts of the story before playing. I knew Joel would die very quickly, I knew I would have to play as Abby for 10 hours and I knew at the end I couldn’t even kill Abby. These three things alone are enough of a reason to scare anyone or to rate this game a 0, however, it just doesn’t matter when combined with the entire experience. Now I am not saying this game is perfect, but certainly doesn’t deserve the hate it has been receiving. Yes, watching Joel die in that way sucks and after finishing the game I still wonder if it was the correct way to end the story of such beloved character. But putting yourself in the mindset, you understand why naughty dog decided to make this, you really feel like Ellie and that motivation keeps you going. Even if I knew I would be playing as Abby, I didn’t know when, so when it happened, at first my motivation to play as Abby was to just arrive at that critical point, but as I kept playing, my motivation changed dramatically and I ended up enjoying a lot the entire Abby section to the point I realized y deeply cared for this characters that I just murdered some hours before. The gameplay, although very similar to the first, I found it very enjoyable and really fun, the graphics and score are just perfect, but what really surprises me is the number of balls a developer needs in order to craft and present a story like this one. I ended up absolutely loving this game and has been on my mind for weeks now, it is truly a devastating, epic, sad, funny, and just a piece of art that anyone should experience. I repeat that yes it is devastating to play this game but in the end, it feels with it. 10/10… Expand

    I can’t believe the hate this game has gotten. Sure, images of the game leaked, and major story points were revealed. But, there is soooo much in this game that was not spoiled. So much of the emotion and complexity of the story can not be seen unless you play the whole thing.     The game is amazing because its divisive, mature, uncomfortable and emotional. It's very hard to find a video game that includes all this traits. Graphics are nothing less then astonishing like it's always has been with a Naughty Dog games.

    About the game, this is the opinion of a guy who played everything since he discovered videogames, and a guy who has never been a huge fan of the first chapter. In this case I can't but admit that TLOU Part 2 is one of the greatest masterpiece in the history of the medium. The screenplay is a magestic work of characterization, developing this double pursue, a double tale of revenge. But if you really understand the game, you won't find a revenge story. You'll find the best sequel ever made to a game, and Naughty Dog made some of the most extreme choices towards the public and the mythology of the game. The result is an enormous tale-of-doubles which developes the great lie which closed the first chapter in an incredibile whirlpool of violence and brutality.

    The gameplay is a continuous and total integration with the awesome scenarios that have been realized in the best graphic level ever seen on ps4. The gameplay of tlou has been renewed in its rhythm, often ripetiteve and sometimes a bit woody. Tlou offers a range of genres and situations, and some of them are already game history. The level with the sniper or the sequence on Serafites' Island are nothing but works of videloudic art.

    Surely it was inspired by the operas of the genre, especially MGS 4, but it founds its own identity in those hard choices ND took. When you discover that after 15 hours of progression with Allie your adventure is gone and you restart with her nemesis who killed the beloved Joel, you'll need time to accept this. But it's not a punishment against player, it's a new pact with the player, who will live actually an experience, not a game. And when the true finale comes, the picture is complete, Joel is not the one who inspires revenge, but the man who condemned Allie saving her. So she is not looking for vengeance, but she's trying to overcome hatreness against that friend-father.

    Yes, TLOU totally overwrites the first chapter, but this is nothing but an incredibile pivot point in ND philosophy. It's a matter of faith, and everyone should overcome his preconceptions to embrace this masterpiece, which completed the path that Death Stranding seemed to have completed.     Embora a história do jogo tenha gerado muita controvérsia, no meu ponto de vista foi muito bem escrita. Considero o jogo uma verdadeira obra de arte em todos os quesitos. Foi o jogo mais completo e original que já joguei. Boa parte das críticas ao jogo são de pessoas que gostam de clichê e intolerantes.

At the suggestion of a friend I put all my pre conceived thoughts aside and decided to give a chance and thank god I did, it's amazing. I get it, a lot of tlou 1 fans think the story is ruined but I say it does way better than a lot of sequels out there and not only continues the story but ads an entire rich layer of depth to it's characters. The outcome of the story was not expected from me, I had certain theories that I was sure were facts while playing, and it turned out to be something completely different. I say if you are a fan of the first one, or a fan of insane dramatic action-rpgs, this is a must for you. It's brilliant in many aspects. I think all the negative feedback for this game is not really warranted and emotive based/ irrational. Ironically, somewhat cult like (reference to some of this games themes). It's true this game was nothing even close to what I was expecting but that made it the much more thrilling for me. I had no idea what was coming around the corner, figuratively and literally.     Troy Baker voice acting little bit disapointing too. That strained texas accent is too much. I never heard speaking like that in the fist game.
    They over-separated the depressing and the happier parts.
    The overall ending after the two characters met at the ending is lack of atmosphere. Ellie at the farm with Dina and after Dina is so empty... At least Abby give us some emotions.

    If they give us only Abby's story in this game without killing Joel and give her an other motivation to find the Fireflies or at least what was left of it would be much better.
    And atleast we never know about Joel and Ellie and how Druckman ruined them in this game...

    The first game ending is so beautiful... Compare to THIS...

    1- get so sad from the first twist. 2- haven’t played the game at all. 3- can’t get it (console exclusive). Go and buy it.

    A moving, beautiful game, both graphically and emotionally. The Last of Us 2 is a masterclass representation of modern storytelling. The controls are solid, combat is brutal, stealth is fun to use, and the world feels alive through it's intelligently built environments. If you're a fan of 3rd person action adventure games there is no reason to pass this up. It is practically flawless.

The game is emotionally challenging. Be aware. But there is no reason at all to project your triggerd emotions onto the creators of the game or onto the gay communtiy. That's just weak as f.

    Great game in all its aspects. In my opinion, the story is good, and its something i've never seen before, leaving me emotionally devastated tbh. The only reason im not giving it a 10/10 is because of some pacing problems in certain points of the story. No, its not as good as the first one, but its an excellent game.

It's a game with so many facets. The characters have so many facets. I have been trying to write something, but I have been keeping fighting against myself about what I wrote and at the end just deleted most of it.     Great game! Play it for yourself. You can really see that so much time and effort was put into this title. Only a handful of games of this superior quality come out for each console generation. Do not skip this one! Most people writing reviews haven’t played the game and have only seen spoiler videos.

    An amazing game, with emotions punching me left and right. Surprises I never expected. God-tier animations, arguably next-gen. Much improved gameplay over the first one. Did not expect Naughty Dog to have a game on par and exceeded the first Last of Us.
