    Without spoiling anything this game was quite a disappointment, I made the mistake of trusting Neil and Naughty Dog and I got burned. This game just takes everything from the first game and destroys it.

    Let me tell you what my experience consisted of:

    Initially when they introduced Joel again talking to Tommy: This is awesome! I'm right at home again!

    When they forced me to play a character I didn't have any desire to play: Why do I have to play her, I hope it's not for long.

    The entire spot that kicks off the game: This sucks but I'm sure it'll make it a better story.

    The Entirety of Seattle: THIS IS AWESOME

    The second half of the game: This is terrible, just 10 more hours of it? That sounds like a grind so I'm just going to look up the ending.

    My time on YouTube: This ending is terrible.

    My opinion on this game is to steer clear, the gameplay is good but they'll get you invested just to pull you away right at the climax of the story and force you to do stuff that really just takes you out of the experience and immersion to the point that you just google how it ends to get it over with.

    This is such a stain on the franchise, a real damn shame as it was my very favorite franchise ever.    … Expand

    How can a game force us to suddenly forgive a personal enemy who killed our father with no mercy right before us, after we killed a lot of her followers for revenge? It's ridiculous.

    The game is totaly worth it in my opinion, i think that the story is great and yes, while some parts of the game can feel weak and dragged out it's still an experience worth your time.

    Well I just finished this game and then checked the user reviews... I actually can’t believe what i’m seeing! I played for three days straight, which if the low scores are coming from people who have actually completed this game, then they would have had to play for three days straight therefor the game cannot be worthy of a 0.

    Some are anal about the story which I get that some people might not like, but to say that it’s badly written just makes me laugh! This is one of the best stories i’ve ever witnessed. It makes you feel things you might not want to feel but that is where the beauty of storytelling stands!
    Oh no my fav character died... Get over it have you never watched a good season before people die and you feel emotions, that’s why it’s there. In a world where any action has a consequence, bad things happen and with reason too.

    The voice acting and gameplay mechanics alone gives this game at least an 8! I just have to say that reading all the negative reviews actually has me laughing my ass off! These people have so clearly never even played the game or just have poor taste, i’m sure they’ll enjoy Gears of War 6 or Halo: Infinite though.

    Seriously don’t let user reviews put you off. A game doesn’t receive 10s from critics if a game is not good. Don’t believe into the theory that Naughty Dog paid for reviews either because again that is just some sort of hilarious joke!

    One last thing, i’ve seen angry people over the fact that Ellie is gay... For starters what on earth is even wrong with that and it actually makes no difference whatsoever in the story.    … Expand

I've played the first game over 30ish times since it's release and only and couple weeks before the second part came out I went back to the game to get every single trophy available for it. I went through every nook and cranny in the first game, and I'm about to do that for the second. I've watched behind the scenes footage, learned almost everything about the characters and loved each second of it. This game isn't the first game. It's not a story about the lengths a father would go for his daughter. It's about what Ellie would do after losing Joel. (and honestly he should've died in the first game.. The wound he got from the fall alone should've killed him within hours.) and for those complaining about his death, I don't see how this game would've been possible any other way. It would've been just Joel saying "I killed the fireflies to save you" and Ellie would've been moppy for a while but what else could they have done? Try to get a new doctor and basically redo the first game? That's crap. This direction was much more daring and enabled the writers more room to grow Ellie. Get it together. For most of the angry reviews, I can tell they haven't even completed the game but worse than that they nitpick details and explain how they would do it as if they're professional developers or seasoned story writers. Most of them (nearly all) can't even spell "graphics"(or some other easy words) I don't count myself as a professional like Neil Drukmann, or Halley Gross, but I sure as h*ll don't think those bashing the game could've even created a good sentence let alone a beautiful 25 hour long game.
    The characters are deeper than any other shooter based game(or any for that matter).Even the NPCs have names to remind you of the blood you're shedding. Some are deeper than others, some I care more than others, but it would be impossible to make every character as deep as Ellie or Abby. But mind you, they didn't make Joel very deep either. They simply made him a grunt that was irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. We still fell inlove because he was new. The only reason he's important is because he found Ellie and that's what made him less of a random person. But Joel, or the idea of him, is a simple man in complicated situations.
    I get if you don't like the story, but this the end result of countless hours spent by the ND team. If you're gonna give it a score give it a fair one. if you're gonna bash something properly explain why. Just cause you personally have anger in you doesn't justify an attack on hundreds of people and their work. This game is art and the fact that there are so many id*ots bashing it proves its great art.

    The game play is fun, and almost completely different from the first game. There are new mechanics which opens your mind to different perspectives and ways to Traverse. The story picks up where we left off almost immediately (and goes back on forth in the time line) and graphics are beautiful (duh) this game is amazing and I really wish people would get it a real chance but that didn't happen.    … Expand

    Very few games manage to engage so deeply. I loved the character's journeys and growth. The story was only enhanced with those graphics. In all my 30hours of gameplay, I barely encountered any bugs, which I think it speaks on its own of what kind of masterpiece this is. I can't wait to replay the game again!

There are simply way too many problems on how you lay out the story, the progress, and how it was told, and for a game that took 7 years to finish, at some point, someone in the whole dev team had to ask this question: is that really the way we want to tell the story? Does that really line up to the way we tell the story in our previous game? Apparently none of those questions was asked, else the story and human logic would've been more polished.

    Gameplay:
    Nothing new. Seriously, nothing new or outbreaking. Solid? yes. But nothing that really provided excitement. At least no bugs, right?    … Expand

    Now I know you’re looking at that score and scoffing, probably calling me a shill, but hear me out. A 10 is not a perfect game. I rate games based on a combination of enjoyment and artiststry demonstrated. With that being said, here’s my review for The Last Of Us Part II.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 24 hours after beating the game, I'm still very confused about my thoughts on the game. First of all, we can't discuss graphics (probably the best on console right now) nor the gameplay (similar to the first game but improved in many ways). Regarding the story: while in the first game we can only love our two protagonists and their relationship, in Part II we need to see the reality and understand that there are consequences to Joel's actions. I'm no trying to defend Abby but we need to understand that Ellie and Abby are two sides of the same coin. I don't think it's true that Abby is a psychopatic killer while Ellie is justified. What if we played the first game from Abby's perspective? No one is right in the world of TLOU, it's all a matter of different point of views. Probably the biggest problem is that we are forced to play 10/12 hours with Abby: I understand that they wanted to compare Abby's redemption with Joel's in the first game, however it may have been dragged a little too much and giving us more of her backstory could have worked out better.
    I did not mind the way Ellie is portrayed in Part II: people need to realize that she is not the innocent 14y/o kid that she was in Part I, she has grown, she has felt betrayed by the only person that never abandoned her, she feels like her life does not make sense anymore.
    Joel had it coming unfortunately, I don't think his death felt very forced, he's human, he lived 4 years in a relatively quiet place, he may have become a softer person but it may have helped if they showed us that Joel has become more open to strangers.
    Lots of negative comments are just due to the s**t storm bandwagon that the internet is, some just can't accept that stories may go the way we do not want to. Afterall, do our lives go always the way we want?
    Regarding the ending: Ellie remembers a conversation with Joel about forgiveness and let Abby go. Does it mean that she forgives Abby? I don't know, I actually think that she is just tired of all that violence, she already became what Joel was before meeting her while Abby became what Joel was AFTER meeting Ellie. She is able to let go her obsession unlike Abby did, proving that she is still a caring and better person. We may or may not like or agree with the ending, I'm personally still undecided about it. Ellie has now lost every connection to her past because of her obsession for revenge just like Abby lost her new “family” because of Ellie. However Abby has now a new person to care about, we do not know if Ellie will find someone, if she will come back to DIna, or she will travel alone.

    Could Part II have been better? Yes. Is it better than the first game? The first TLOU will always have a special place in my heart, Part II is a different story that works on a different level and if handled differently it could have worked for the majority. However that doesn't mean the story is bad. Give it a try, it is worth it
    Do I want a Part III? Maybe, however it should not be polarizing like Part II and should be completely focused on Ellie    … Expand

False advertising, character destruction, absolutely horrible story, 10+ hours as an unlikable character who we never even heard of in the first game. Beautiful first game, sad to see it's legacy drowning in this garbage fire. Also testing to see if this posts on a high rating since it won't let me otherwise !!!!

    Those who give this gorgeous game a low score, referring to LGBT propaganda, simply did not play it. Thanks to the developers for the tremendous work and effort. I got unrealistic pleasure while playing this game. Tears welling in his eyes. Buy and play. For her sake, you should even buy ps4.

    Lying to the fans making them not only think JOEL is part of this game in a big way but LYING and Niel D actually saying ELLIE was the only PLAYABLE character in a interview, lie lie lie

    BUT non of that is this game its the lies about a game that doesnt exist, in this game you spend hours playing horrible manchick (no not trans just a woman with HUGE arms, manly body and face) and you have to play 10+ hours of her AFTER she violently kills JOEL, you spend most the game doing things like this, Horrible story telling and decisions forcing gameplay that is just cringe, constant gut punch after gut punch, non stop violence in the worst way with NO REDEMTION for any of these awful character, and forget your favs , Joel gets killed right away Ellie is totally different and is a sad sad mess.

    For an interactive movie i rate it like a movie and this is a "F-" in every way that matters (no the excellent graphics don't factor into a interactive movie "press square" is not game play its quicktime events, and graphics don't tell a story, bad good great doesn't effect the story line just like a pretty movie that is miserable to watch ex- A.I. artificial intelligence, all Jurrasic parks after the original,all reboot movies that claim to be sequals.... )    … Expand

    The story makes you see the consequences of your actions from another perspective, it makes you feel bad for what you’ve done, and I think that’s why most people are hating it, they don’t want to face the consequences. Very good gameplay, perfect graphics and design, and a really deep story.

As a game, I would give it a solid 8/10, the graphics are astonishing, new mechanics are added and bluh bluh bluh. On the other hand the story makes it the worst game in the freaking universe, if you've played the first game you won't like this one. The whole game was about revenge, which it wasn't applied at the end of the game. I literally spent I've 30 hours thinking that I would kill Abby but instead I was basically left with, nothing. I lost Joel, 2 fingers, I let my enemy live, and I lost my girlfriend and child. Don't even bother making another part naughty dog.… Expand

    Most people complaining have either not played the game and had a part of the story spoiled or have played the game and not finish it..

    This game will not tell the story you want it to tell, that is true, but that is also true for life itself. The game does a wonderful job with narrative, deep and complex emotions, amazing support characters and relationships, dichotomy and duality, and twists and surprises that ultimately reflect human behaviour.

    This game goes to show that this is not a fantasy world where everyone is happy, **** happens and how you deal with that and the journey you go through. Also, in case people did not understand it after playing part 1, you are not playing a hero, you are not playing as the good guy, you never have in TLOU.

    Summary
    Naughty dog continued its trajectory of great story telling and amazing characters all within the world that we all love although this experience may not feel much of a "zombie game", with the great little touches to the gameplay and music makes this the best work Naughty dog has brought to the industry in as an art form    … Expand

    Felt like the game had a whole lot of potential but a lot of the game story elements were executed poorly, in my opinion Naughty Dog can do better than this, I also felt like it was a large kick in the back and threw everything from the last game right out the window, this is just the top of the rant I could go on so in my opinion shame on Naughty Dog

    Incredible game, graphics are insane, mocap and voice acting is top tier the gameplay is as smooth as butter, and the story is incredibly written and is an emotional roller coaster.

I believe the risks taken with The Last of Us Part II"s narrative pays off and we're given a gripping, grim tale that is told through the perspectives of our main characters, Ellie and Abby. What I love most about this game is how similar Abby and Ellie are to each other to the point where they could be considered to be mirror images of one another. Throughout the story you learn about the pain that both of these characters go through and understand their reasoning and motivations behind their actions; as well as the impact that these actions have on the supporting characters. I believe this game to be so much more than a generic revenge tale that some fans of the first are dumbing it down to be. However, this game does lack any real replay value. There is new game plus but that feels more like a minimum with where games are today.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everything- the graphics, gameplay, sound, environment- is great. Even the story in principle isn't bad at all, just really poorly executed. For one right at the beginning you need to suspend logic and believe that Joel blindly trusted abby, that took me out of the game completely and it bugged me for the rest of it. Seems really implausible that someone so astute and always suspicious would make a mistake like that or change so much within a few years. I wasn't bothered as much by the fact that Joel died in that way(my first reaction was that it was expected, since the bad stuff he's done) as much as the uncharacteristic way they made him behave.

    Second, everything was waaay to long and also the narrative didn't seem sure of itself. A lot of it was just stupid filler that contributed nothing to the story and just made everything lose pace. I got bored several times and stopped for days. Third, the biggest problem- abby. There was NO reason to force us to play as this person for 10 hours. All that was needed was half an hour at most to explain her backstory and maybe an hour of gameplay to make us see that she had an angle. Instead they spend 10 hours trying to make us sympathise with her, failing with like 90% of the people who played the game. This character was not likeable and her motivations were not complex or difficult to understand, it wasn't that deep and didn't need so long. Understanding her motivations wasn't enough to care about her. If they'd made her gameplay like 75% shorter and allowed us to spend more time with Ellie this game would've been great.     Do you like good story telling? We start having issues.
    Did you love the original characters of the first game? Then you will be heavily disappointed.
    Do you dislike rape fantasies? Even if they include a character that looks similar to the game director having violent sex with a person of dubious sex that looks like a steroid user?
    Do you dislike a company that tries to censor and get banned youtube channels and twitter accounts because they posted info about their game?

The story starts out strong and the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie are really good. Although Abby is really annoying at first, it all makes sense at the end. El juego es un 10 técnicamente hablando, visualmente es de lo mejor hecho a o largo de la historia, la banda sonara se repite con la calidad que ya sabemos nos ofrece Gustavo y el Gameplay supera al del 1 por mucho, el botón de esquivar añadido le da una intensidad increíble al combate cuerpo a cuerpo. Hablando sobre las quejas relacionadas a la "Diversidad" que hay dentro del juego, cabe mencionar que se ofrecen momentos de todo tipo, sin embargo ni un solo segundo hay algo forzado en la trama, todo lo incluyeron de forma sutil y natural. Con respecto al corazón de The Last of Us, que es su historia, mientras jugaba sentía que se quedaba corta en comparación al 1, pero al terminarlo me di cuenta que no es así, no es tanto la típica historia de venganza, el cliché que algunos sienten, es en completo una historia de perdón y redención. Dejaron atrás la historia de buscar la cura para salvar al mundo. Joel durante el 1 terminó con toda la esperanza y la "Luz" que quedaba, y al mismo tiempo destruyó a Ellie en el proceso al quitarle el motivo de su vida. Joel necesitaba el perdón de Ellie.
    En el juego se muestra a un Joel desgastado, que se ve a leguas esta sufriendo por las decisiones que ha tomado y las cuales sin embargo volvería a tomar. La gente cree que se "despersonalizó" a Joel, por el simple hecho de bajar la guardia, cuando en realidad Joel pierde su personalidad en el 1 en el momento en el que Sarah muere y es cuando conoce a Ellie que empieza a recuperar su personalidad, tanto es así que termina confiando rápidamente en Henry y su hermano, por ejemplo. Aquí ya lleva un par de años viviendo relativamente tranquilo y es Tommy, quien los delata ante los lobos... Lo que hicieron con Joel es algo muy arriesgado y difícil de aceptar, pero al final es un recurso realista y doloroso.
    Ellie necesitaba perdonar la vida de Abby para poder continuar. Muchas veces es muy fácil juzgar las decisiones de las personas estando como espectador, pero como ya es común en los videojuegos, hay que colocarse por completo en los zapatos de Ellie y Abby para comprenderlas. Abby lleva a cabo su deseada venganza, algo que lleva planeando por años, y es lo que primeramente arruina su relación con Owen, sin embargo no conoce el precio de la venganza hasta después de llevarla a cabo, a diferencia de Ellie que esta pagando el precio de la venganza mientras la busca. En esta historia no hubo ganadores, solo personas que lo perdieron todo en distintos momentos por las decisiones que tomaron. El mensaje que me dejo el juego es que, en un mundo donde todo puede terminar tan abrupta y rápidamente como ese, no está permitido guardar resentimientos con los seres queridos. Ellie tiene la oportunidad de haber intentado perdonar a Joel durante 2 años, pero nunca lo hizo hasta un día antes de perderlo, eso es lo que la atormenta, es lo que entiende en el momento final y es por ello que perdona a Abby, para poder seguir con su vida. Joel's death is not some pointless attempt at shock value as everyone wants to believe. Its creates interesting, reoccurring themes within the story (those being revenge, hate and forgiveness), it gives Ellie a complex character arc, it kicks off a brutal journey for us the player to go on and is a perfect way to continue the story beats of the first game. Also I cried like a baby so there's that too.

    Abby is such an intriguing character and her tie to the first game was an amazing spin on the ending of the original. To be fair, her segment does go on too long but stick to it. Trust me you'll understand why you have to see Abby's perspective by the end. The only way I feel I can some up my feeling towards Abby's and her segment it that I said "I don't want to kill Abby!" aloud durring the final fight. Having her and Ellie's perspective is honestly what makes the ending as perfect as it is in my opinion.

    The only other complaints towards the game that I get are that it's not what was promised in the advertising ("You think I'd let you do this in your own?") and the time hopping mixed with flashbacks within flashbacks is messy.
    That said, I can't deny that I enjoyed it as much if not then slightly less than the first game. Slightly.



    Next gen looking graphics and a stellar score don't hurt the experience either.    … Expand

    Incredible. I am speechless and an emotional wreck. With both part 1 and part 2, this story line has to be by far the best. The emotional and character growth throughout the game is so complex! The graphics and the attention to detail from start to finish are insane. Everyone involved in creating The Last of Us should be extremely proud of themselves, no more could have been done. It's bold, ambitious and complex, but the hard truth is that the new characters don't resonate as they were meant to. They lack the easy chemistry that Joel and Ellie had in the first game, and until the very, very end, Abby's fate meant little to me.
    However, I would still recommend the game. Hands down. Reviews of anything lower than a 5/10 absolutely astonish me. The gameplay is incredible. The graphics are incredible. The relationship development between Ellie and Joel cut to the core, echoing the most effective elements of the first game. Ellie's mourning process is devastating and complex, consistently justifying Joel's death as a narrative choice. In fact, all of these factors are so well done that giving it anything less than an 8/10 just feels wrong.
    It's not a masterpiece in the same way that the original was, but it's challenging and at the very least, thought-provoking. There are moments to fall in love with and moments to hate, but I think anyone who has played it should at least have enough respect to recognize that the 3.7/10 rating (as it stands right now) is absurd.    … Expand

    This game is being bombed by fascists, fan-boys and trolls, don't listen to them

    Wonderful game, beautiful story, great mechanics and some of the best graphics this generation has to offer. Simply a must play.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
