A poor sequel. They should not have waited so long after the success of the first, because they lost all impetus for the second. Don't wait 7 years to make a sequel - it might not work.

The technical standard of the graphics and world are impressive but as a story...

Waste of money and time - and the gameplay is identical from part one.

An epilogue to a masterpiece, The Last of Us Part II is a jarring experience, it takes narrative risks that throw the entire narrative off the rails with no clear direction. It results in a plotline which awkwardly fumbles to its end with little payoff or direction.

The story in my opinion worked for the most part, as i grew to like some of the newer characters like Abby, their stories and their actions. It was both emotionally and impactful and the end left me absolutely stubborn. I loved it. Not only does the game look and sound incredible, but i am so blown away for what Naughty Dog has brought to table. This is a game that has to be experienced before it can be judged.

None of the story beats make sense, the game play is largely the same as the first, you play half the game as abby, who has a body that is literally impossible to get in this kind of apocalyptic environment. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you really liked the first game do not buy this. TLOU 2 destroys almost everything TLOU 1 have constructed. The redemption of joel in the first game, making him have a second chance in his life is erased, they literally threw in the trash, it’s like the hole story of the first game, all the characters constructions, personality, skills etc never happened. It’s full of SJW agenda, man, how the fuk ellie just turned around to like woman, “ooooh the DLC” c’mon bro this thing doesn’t have any context, they wanted her to be lesbian no matter what. And man, abby is so like a trap, it’s so like a man, they made a long hair that doesn’t exist, because when the character is visualized by the head, it seems she has short hair, like a man has. It’s almost that you doubt if her is a man or not in some scenes, the sex scene with owen it seems two man are having sex. The gameplay becomes a little boring because you don’t want to finish that story. It’s like a oscar SJW film and man how the fuk dina’s baby survived after she almost dye by abby. “But nooo it has survived, because we want to put a lesbian family in the game and that’s it accept it”, tommy gets a shot in the head but his alive, accept that too. Poor writing, nothing in this game doesn’t make any sense. And how ellie likes weed now? Really? That scene it’s just to pass a liberal agenda. The final is so horrible, ellie left everything behind to get her revenge, she has traumatic stress, remembering joel killed all the time by abby, but you now let her live, it just make so many sense why not. Making ellie be alone with less two fingers. “Oh what a brilliant idea”. fuk this story. Fuk this game. Don’t buy that piece of crap. Expand

    1. A way of protesting against the way the trailers lied to the audience. For me, thats not marketing, thats lack of respect for the players who loved this story since The Last of Us.

    2. Because of the choices in the story, i dont care anymore about graphics and gameplay, im even sorry for that, i know im just wrong and angry, but the Zero score will remain there.
The story felt for me like if Abby was the new protagonist, a sociopat one. And Joel was the villan..
None of that was necessary, i would say that not even Joels death was necessary in my opinion. A good sequence, for me, would have been a good one just by focusing on the relationship betwen Ellie and Joel, maybe something around the lie that Joel kept from Ellie for so long. I would be already happy.
I dont know, im just sad for Joel, all that suffering was pointless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished the game on survivor difficulty. I’ll start with the things I liked about the game. First of all, it looks beautiful. I stopped multiple times throughout to take in the environment. Pretty amazed they got it to run at a near-constant 30fps. Secondly, I really enjoyed the flashbacks between Joel and Ellie; especially the in the museum. When Joel had Ellie put on a helmet and pretend to take off into space, it brought tears to my eyes. What a cool moment.

I also enjoyed some of the new additions to the game. Having dogs be able to track your scent was pretty cool. I had fun using the crossbow, and that basement hospital fight against that giant mutated infected (or Rat King, as it’s called) was pretty awesome.

Sadly, that’s pretty much where my enjoyment ends. I’m not even sure where to start. They did Joel a huge disservice in the way that he died. It is an insult to think that he would abandon all of his past survival skill, knowledge, experience, etc. and mosey on in to this unknown group’s location. How do you go from: ‘I’ve been on both sides’, ‘I’ve struggled for a long time with surviving’, and ‘Don’t trust anyone but yourself’ to: ‘Greetings random group! I will blindly put my faith in you and lower my guard! This is my brother Tommy, and I’m Joel! I killed a doctor that was working on a cure!’ It just doesn’t make sense.

That brings me to Abby. Holy crap, how unlikeable of a character can Naughty Dog make? You expect me to give a crap about this character at all? I love the feeble attempts ND makes to try so hard to get us to sympathize with her. Let’s see things from her P.O.V and look at her reaction to her dad’s death. Mmm, nope, sorry, don’t care. That ‘shock’ fell short by the way. It was super predictable that she was related to the doctor. Every time I was forced to play as her, it was a struggle to keep going. Why the HELL would you force me to play as Joel’s killer? That 10 hour+ ‘side quest’ culminating at the showdown between the WLF and Scars was awful. At no point did I ever want to play as Abby. And why do I care about some stupid power struggle between these two factions? It was incredibly boring. And to think that in the end, Ellie didn’t even get revenge. I understand the whole ‘act of mercy’ angle, and that Ellie told Joel at the end she was ready to try and forgive him, and that she thought of him when she chose not to drown Abby. But WTF. She escaped death how many times to hunt Abby down?! And then she was going to make peace with the fact that she had to let Abby live. But oh wait, she’s having PTSD because Abby is still alive, so she leaves Dina and JJ (whilst knowing that Dina won’t be there when Ellie gets back), so she tracks down Abby AGAIN. And then she’s like...NAH it’s fine, get out of here ya little rascal :) I felt very little satisfaction by the end of the game. Very disappointing.

And the relationships in this game. I love Ellie, but I didn’t give a crap about her relationship with Dina. The thing about Joel and Ellie’s relationship in the first game that made it so special? It happened organically, overtime, onscreen. They wanted nothing to do with each other at first. But you, the player, got to see their dynamic change gradually throughout the game, and it was interesting. But with Ellie and Dina, they’re just into each other like it’s something we already should’ve known about. The most backstory we get about them is from Ellie’s entries into her journal, which is a poor way to try and build character relationships. The same can be said for Abby and Owen. At no point was I interested in anything they were saying or doing with each other.

And some smaller grievances. It was really cool in the first game how when Joel pointed his gun, you heard his breathing get much louder, like he was scared and on edge. They got rid of that here which stunk. Also, it was cool at first how when upgrading your gun, they would show you making the addition, but that got old quickly, especially if I was trying to make multiple additions to the same gun. I just felt like I wanted a fast forward button the entire time.
I also wanted to talk about Tommy running off on his own to go find Abby after Joel died. Uh, why did he do that? Tommy knows Ellie. He knew that she wanted revenge just as badly. He clearly did not want any harm to come to her. Why did he not go with her? Wouldn’t that be the best way to ensure survival?

In conclusion: The original Last of Us is one of my favorite games. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so hard on Part 2. Abby is awful, unlikeable, and boring. The fact that I had to spend so much time playing as this character was terrible. I replayed 1 more than once at this point. I have 0 interested in ever replaying 2, because there’s so much of the game I would want to skip over. It’s so disheartening to see how bad this all turned out...

On a scale of broken (0) to godly(10), it’s tough to even consider a 2.
0 - Broken, unplayable. 1 - Anti-Immersive. Not broken. Compels me not to play. 2 - Non-immersive, nothing compels me to play. 3 - Non-immersive gameplay, Immersive concepts. 4 - On-Off Immersive - Interesting beats, not good enough to recommend.
5 - Semi-Immersive - No buyer's remorse, but no replay-ability. 6 - Immersive Easy – Fun, no challenge. 'I am too overpowered'. 7 - Immersive Fun - Easily re-playable. ' I want to play more' 8 - Immersive Challenging - From Rouges to Souls, you know them when you see them. You care about your characters. These are done so well you start reflecting on the artists who made the game and appreciate their craft at every turn. 9 - Immersive Tough - Sekiro, it is the only game I hold in this regard.
10 - Godly. It has not been made yet. “best game ever’
I watched a full play through of this game.
I was considering buying it at first, but I figured I would enjoy it more without wasting money on garbage. It is a cinematic game with a 'fetch' simulator, a jank guitar mini-game, and occasionally zombie shooting/stealth. 35% of the time is cut-scenes or like 10 out of 30 hours.
    Characters/Story
When people play games they want relate to the main character. That’s why I enjoy RPGs so much, the more you can customize your character the better. You want to be friends or enemies with different NPCs - cool; it's fun when you're making your character in the image that you desire. It’s fun to raid others, but it sucks when you get ganked. It’s fun to be selfish, but when someone else is it can become a problem for you quick. Likewise, when a developer’s character is selfish it will depend on how much you relate to them to either side with them or be put off by them. The less they are like you or your ideal protagonist, the more you don't want to be around them.
Ellie is not like-able. One of the first scenes is Ellie waking up to some guy knocking on her door who is “not upset man" that Ellie was hooking up with the girl he just broke up last week (yeah, he does get the little ‘man’ micro-aggression in there, just… supreme dialogue). Then she gets mad at him for pretending to not be cool with it. She then walks to her new GF, Dina, who is passive aggressive towards Ellie for 'interrupting' her.
Instead of using the initial pieces of dialogue for exposition to the world, they use it to set up this drama character dynamic which is … weird to say the least, but more importantly, usually not why I play games. Drama is a supplemental, it’s good if you can pull it off, but make me care about the world and the characters in it before trying to make me care about their personal (non-zombie survivor) problems.
Anyway, then Ellie and her GF smoke weed and have some CG foreplay (just why? like c’mon), before the same guy from before comes in and gets mad at them for smoking weed and not being on patrol. Joel is missing.
So as a gamer... I'm sitting here thinking... you're supposed to be patrolling and protecting these people, but you’re getting high and about to have sex while Joel is getting kidnapped.

This is the point where I hit anti-immersion. I start to think, why would you intentionally craft a story where the character is messing around while the other is getting set-up to be killed. Like the hero wants to get high and have sex, not patrol the city, because that’s how the hero is. For example, later in the game Ellie’s GF Dina is pregnant, and they were just smoking weed. Like fair, Dina maybe didn’t know she pregnant, but the writers know. So why write in a pregnant woman smoking weed?
And guess what... then Joel gets killed like a punk. Some loser just clobbers him with like a golf club. Like if you want more story, here it is - she seeks revenge and doesn’t get it. They got rid of one of the protagonists, I feel like the natural place would be to dive deeper into the relationship they have and the hardships of survival, but its stops right there at the beginning, not even 10% of the way into the game, feels like developers are rick rolling me at this point
Pacing –35% of game is cut scenes and I’m here to game, not watch a movie. After getting dragged through a scene, you then have the luxury of going on these hour long ‘fetch’/ ‘fake puzzles’
Gameplay/Enemies - Nothing for like an hour, then a short cluster, for a couple minutes then back to the dull ‘grind.’ They should at least be peppered in, they are only there to make you feel like you ‘did something’ before getting to the next cut-scene. Controllers, combat, and platforming are plain status quo which is not good enough.
Quality – It is smooth and it looks good. When you have the budget, there is no reason not to. It is on par with modern games, but it is not cutting edge.
Conclusion –Buy Terraria, you won’t be disappointed.

The Last of Us was my favourite game ever to the point where I have three tattoos from the game including a portrait of Ellie. It was a game that I had a huge emotional connection too, especially the characters. Fortunately I managed to avoid the spoilers, but knowing the reaction to them I went in with caution.

I'm gonna say it. The Last of Us Part II is the best game I have ever played.

I'm gonna say it. The Last of Us Part II is the best game I have ever played. I was overwhelmed with every emotion possible, often making me scream at my TV and, and a day later I just cannot get it off my mind.

The attention to detail is astounding, the characters look amazing and the world is one of the most graphically impressive I have ever seen.

I looked up the spoilers after I finished, and wow. I totally understand the reaction now. Without context, those spoilers are absolutely killer, and I feel bad for anybody who came across them. To those, I will say go in with an open mind. I know some may not be able to get past them, but really do try. There are also a lot of rumours that are quite simply untrue. You need to play this game for yourself.

It breaks my heart to write this, but I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Im getting straight to the point I don't like the gameplay, story and overall how the game makes me feel. There are certain parts in the game where it makes the player feel bad for playing it and thats just not okay. Examples are when Elllie is forced to kill the dog and when you play as Abby trying to kill Ellie. These just make me want to drop my controller and walk away. I also definitely don't want to play as Abby for about 10 hours because you could say anything about her and I still won't sympathize for her. And the ending was so out of place for Elllie's character, she definitely wouldn't have let Abby live and if you wanted that at least make it an option to kill her because now the story just kinda seems meaningless. You go and avenge Joel but in the end you don't even kill who kills him? Also how this game tries to make you like Abby so bad is sad it comes to a point where its just super manipulative and obvious. Also im just gonna say this now what the hell was that article before the game came out that says that you dont have to kill dogs??? You are forced to kill a dog as Ellie which is stupid because no one wants to do that and it just seems out of character for Ellie, also how you play as Abby and you get to pet that same dog you kill and play with it... yeah I saw that its super manipulative and stupid. And just to top off my review the trailers for this game are so misleading its terrible, Naughty Dog used Joel as a marketing figure by adding him in cut scenes when he was already dead and in game he's not even in the scene and thats just scummy. This is a definite no in my book and the game honesty deserves the bad ratings. But if you like the game or you feel that you'll like it go for it but I'd at least watch some gameplay first so you know what you're getting into. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to give this game a 10/10 review, due to there are so many unreasonable negative reviews, and this game completes the whole story.

First, the story is good, and it does not deserve like 3, 2 or even 0 of 10. I know some of the elements in this game might anger many people, such as SJW and multi-cultural as well. However, you can say you hate these elements, but you cannot destroy the game via some unreasonable and unreal reviews. I might only give it an 8 or 9 before I saw the whole internet is like bullying the creator and the team of this game. I really hate this phenomenon, like I am living in some kind of censorship country.

Second, there is a reason it calls part 2 instead of the last of us 2. In my opinion, the last of us part 2 complete and extend the whole story behind the previous game in 2013. There must be a consequence when you against the world benefit to save personal interest, and the result is not just the dead of Joel. It is the struggle between Ellie and Abby. Obviously. Abby is a nice and ordinary girl who just wants to revenge her father's death, and she let Ellie, with killing intension, go twice. Does Ellie know it? Yes, she knows why Abby killed Joel, she knows Abby only goes to Joel, and She knows Abby let her go twice and did not kill Dina. This is the reason why Ellie's last trip is so unstable and with so many unsure. And it turns out, Ellie let Abby go when she can kill her. Because she found that what she wants is not Abby's death, it is not revenge. She just wants peace and the get rip of the moment of Joel's death. She is not sure that killing Abby can give her peace or not, so she does what Abby has done to her...let her go and never come back. There are so many things in this story... I am going to play the second round.

I'll tell you why by looking at the complaints haters have.

    1. Joel's death What they say :- poorly dealt Fact:- he dies in the hands of the person he just saves by getting his leg shot with a shotgun and beaten to death with a golf stick. That is painful psychologically and physically. People wanted a predictable lame death of Joel??

    2. Abby getting to live in the end
What they say:- it sucks to see Ellie not getting her revenge
Fact:- Ellie got her revenge. Abby was able to kill Joel because her group outnumbered Joel and Tommy. Ellie kills her group therefore killing the indirect reason that helped Abby kill joel. And Ellie killed the Abby that killed Joel by making Abby realise that revenge only got innocent people killed.

    3. Structure and pacing
What people say:- the game is slow and boring
Fact:- these are blind haters who are probably xbox fans because the 1st game has the same pacing and that game is awesome!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Aside from all the amazing graphics. The plot of this game makes me feel like I am tossed with sh*t by some outsiders, but after I do the same thing to them they beg me to let them go? Do you, Neil, think that even if after the thing you treasure most, the thing you love most, the pride you uphold most has been shattered on the ground by some self-righteous people, you are still going to stand there and let go of your hate??? I don't get it. Let me teach you something about life, that is not something you will ever forgive about. If I were Ellie, I would have died for Joel. Revenge IS allowed in the civilized world as long as you resort to law. It originated, however, from a barbaric world like the one that Ellie lived in, and the one that Joel refused to change in the first game.

Ironically, in a game that boasts about it's equal rights about women and other minorities, the discrimination for Asian is so much that I feel sick about this kind of attitude.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (No spoilers in this first paragraph, there will be a warning when I start talking about the story)
(Not exactly fluent in English, sorry for any mistakes)

Yes, it is a sad story and not for everyone's tastes. It's not pleasant like the first one. But that doesn't mean it's bad. I believe it's actually one of the most well written videogame's plots, not worried about conventional cliches and comfortable endings. It is bold to write such a thing aware that it will not be enjoyable for people. And maybe that wasn't the right thing to do considering that the purpose of games is entertainment, but it is a good story, with a deep meaning that makes you think about the complexity of moral and human emotions, and that stays in your head for a long time.

    (SPOILERS AHEAD)

First of all, of course it's heartbreaking to watch Joel die in such a brutal way. He captivated us in a way that made us comprehend why he killed innocent people and took away the chance of a cure for humanity just to save Ellie. He had a heart and couldn't stand losing another daughter, the only thing he had left. It was selfish, but we sympathized.
Abby didn't know Joel. The only thing she knew was that he murdered her father. And came after him for the exact same reason Ellie did the same with her. And at the very end, after losing all of her friends and her group, she attached to Lev and realized it wasn't worth it to keep seeking for revenge.
Ellie couldn't get over it. She still saw Joel everytime she closed her eyes. The only way to get peace was to go after Abby. And in the final moment, she remembers of the last conversation she had with Joel. About wanting to forgive him. And that's what she did. It was the only way she would actually feel peace.
"So she did all of this for nothing?" killing Abby would also be for nothing. Joel wouldn't come back. She wouldn't undo anything. She'd just probably kill Lev as well, leaving him alone in those conditions. There's no downside in letting Abby live. It's in that moment that under all of her guilt, rage and sadness, we get to see the little girl again. We get to see Ellie's essence.

And even though it feels like she lost everything for nothing, it was the only way she knew at the moment to deal with all those feelings. It was only when she was completely alone that she realized all of this was meaningless, and there was no way she'd realize that before. It's just how humans work.

"So why does she have to end alone?" she doesn't have to. It's just how the story goes. It's the sad story of where revenge took a girl. It doesn't have to be compensating. And again, obviously not everyone will like it. But you can't say it's bad.
