This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lazy writing. The best thing about the first game was the dynamic between Ellie and Joel as he rediscovered himself as a father. Killing off Joel at the beginning was a terrible decision. I expected him to die at some point in this game but the way he died at the very beginning seemed pointless and unfulfilling. We waited seven years for this game and have been waiting to see Joel again and we only get live 5 minutes of gameplay with him before he died. THE TRAILER WAS A LIE. It showed Joel going on this adventure with Ellie but in the game Jesse filled that spot. Then you have us play as Abby for 40% of the game and fight Ellie as this person fans hated.(Abby is the one that killed Joel btw) and you try to make us sympathize with this person but her part of the game just felt really dragged out. There was nothing fulfilling about this game or it's story. Really dropped the ball on this one. Expand

It's a ultimately a soulless sequel that failed to deliver what it's promise. The story tries to focus on the human aspect and claim how the humans are the "real monsters" to try to deliver some pseudo philosophical message and forgets it's zombie apocalypse setting. I won't not recommend anyone buying this game even if it was on sale.

Absolutely the best game I've ever played. I'm not a gamer really, just loved the first game as a story. Playing The Last Of Us Part II was such a roller coaster of emotions for me. Stunning graphics, improved game-play mechanics. Great plot, storytelling and dialog. Facial animations are the best the industry has ever seen. Incredible achievement of the developers.

Storytelling falls so short of its original mark, only shining in the briefest of glimpses throughout, but prove weak in comparison to dragging misery the rest of the game offers.

Additional and old characters are poor here and hard to care about, whether their decision making or lack of anything exciting to their story, I personally found myself rooting for absolutely nobody. So what was the point? Animal violence was messed up as well.

No value in revisiting, and severely damages the firsts replay value as well. Shocking... just an absolute horror show and I am sadly disappointed to have to fallout of love with what was one of my favourite franchises. and

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics, physics, animations: 10/10 best in the business. So many objects are movable and breakable. Bloaters crash through walls. Character animations are above anything in video games to date and interact with the environment. Great rope physics.

Gameplay, level design, sequences: 9/10 poorly paced gameplay segments. Amazing accessibility options. great scavenge, upgrade, combat gameplay loop. Hidden areas to explore to upgrade faster. Open world hubs towards beginning of game. Some simple neat puzzles. Some of the best 3rd person shooter combat of all time. Amazing AI. Last of us combat features no hip fire, some stun when you get hit, heavy weapon sway, low fire rate, slightly slow aiming down sights all to make it feel more grounded. So it may not be for everyone. It's not extremely innovative from the first game rather mostly fixed and more challenging on higher difficultues. You also play as another character half way through which makes you have to restart the upgrading. A few memerable sequences including some chases, escapes, skyscrapers, and boss fights.

Story: 5/10 poorly paced by adding flashbacks and skipping time. Characters motivated by petty revenge which is very hard to sympathize with. A lot of choices ellie and abby make or the way they act seem very inconsistent. With the way they all of a sudden feel remorse or let eachother live. Main character from the first game dies. That alone ruins the story for many people and was completely unnessacary.

Baldurs Gate 2 had it, Zelda OOT had it, quite a few others, but for those of you who know, you know why you're a gamer, and it's not for gaining levels and uber dominating pwnz others, it's for the immersion the story and the characters that take you on a journey to another world that you can breathe in and look around in.

The Last of Us had it, and the Last of Us 2 has it. Lovingly crafted and a tribute to gamers.

We live in Polarizing times, it's precient ND crafted a game that allows gamers to explore an alternatives side to an event or set of information. It's not for everyone and I found the Ellie Portion much more satisfying, though I love that we are getting this level of story immersion in a game.

Had we played Abby for more time before the Golf Club incident I think we would have been able to identify with her more. Use the flashbacks to let us play and identify with Abby before we hate her guts for destroying our beloved Character. It was a mistake to make Abby masculine in physical appearance, particularly with little to no explanation for why her physique was so unique in the game world. This design choice raised an already high bar for me to climb in order to identify with Abby's world and motivations.

Lean into the game, you will be rewarded.

Beyond minor gripes, the game was incredible. The gameplay was incredible. The hint system was incredible. The game stays with you after you play it, and draws you back in. Thank you Naughty Dog, I hope you guys lean into the challenge of effective story telling with your games. By far the most talented AAA studio on the planet right now.

It surpassed the original as a sequel and built on the first across multiple facets; puzzles, combat and even dialogue prompts. I really don't see any of the plot holes people have been complaining about. Sure, Neil's leftist politics have left some brush strokes in this Masterpiece production, however the characters are far more than just their LGBT labels. There is representation without compromising on the fluidity of the story or the authenticity of the interactions.

I think the main reason so many people hate the game, is the leaks, which of course should NOT have happened. However, it's not too difficult to avoid having the game spoiled if you know what you are doing online. The second and more pressing issue is how a large portion of the game is spent playing as the antagonist character who kills off a character that is near and dear to the hearts of the audience. The game forces you to try to relate to a character you should naturally hate, and to feel bitterness for a character that you want to remember as this perfect character with no flaws. This is how the devs have made the game as true to life and as true to their characters as possible. In reality there aren't many people who you can say you love unconditionally, due to screw-ups or mishaps on their part. Furthermore, there isn't anybody you feel nothing but hate for. In most cases when you hate somebody, there is pity you feel as well. From my own personal life experience, I know this.

Without offence to any of the other reviewers or players, hating the game is as valid as loving it; everyone has an opinion. Perhaps people are hating the game for the wrong reasons. Going into the experience already having the story spoiled and having confirmation bias towards the game being bad. Perhaps a lot of the player-base don't have the same life experience and emotional acuity as others to fully comprehend that it's possible to hate somebody while relating to them. Therefore, they may be confusing hate for a character with their feelings for the game.

This franchise is designed to stir up these kinds of emotions. NaughtyDog set out to make you hate the antagonist character and did a damn good job based on how much backlash the game is getting. They took a risk; it didn't pay off for the majority. People didn't interpret the story the way they wanted them too. Ultimately it was a story of the selfish elements of forgiveness and how harbouring hate can only lead to guilt and losing the people close to you.

That is the message I interpreted from the story, such was made loud and clear the more I thought back on my experience throughout the game, and is echoed not just in main development arcs, but also in smaller dialogue details too.

So, to those of you who failed to enjoy the game as intended, I forgive your oversight. I hope that anybody who reads this may see the game through my lens and see a different perspective. They may find themselves playing through it again with this in mind and appreciating it.

As for the ending, people claiming it wasn't true to the universe or Ellie's character for it to have ended the way it did... I disagree; you are forgetting that she has spent the last 5 years growing up in a relatively peaceful environment of Jackson, surrounded by nothing but community, friends, and intimate relationships. So, to those of you who say it was not true to her character, look again, and think on what I have stated here.

Now that the elephant is out of the room I can talk about the fun stuff! The graphical detail,
and sound design is stunning. I only wish the PS4 could run it at higher than 60fps, as at times, panning the camera in big open areas created some stutter, even disabling motion blur didn't alleviate.

The combat and puzzles are a vast improvement on the first game. I was getting frustrated with some encounters, but very much in a positive way: "Of course that stupid ***** flanked me, why are they so smart, ****!". The complexity and difficulty really stressed the near misses and desperation of the characters.

I will also be the first to admit that the game is buggy. At one point after I messed with the camera settings, if i backed up into a corner a lot of the environment would disappear allowing me to see where infected or enemy AI were lurking. The AI itself is also buggy at times, with allies walking in front of you as you line up a shot, and enemy AI repeating dialogue prompts on loop. Did it ruin the experience? No, it’s a nit-pick at smaller details. The main issue people have is with the story, which I sincerely hope with another playthrough people will see things in a different light.

Overall, what a rollercoaster of emotions. Even if the negative reviews put you off, I would strongly recommend playing the game at least once. There are lessons to be learnt here.

    Great job NaughtyDog!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fist off, let me start by saying in terms of graphics, voice acting, and game play...this game is everything I could have ever wanted. The combat and stealth are fun, the weapons are cool, and the upgrade system and scavenging make for interesting game play. That's where the positives end. The game has such bad writing and storytelling that it has left everyone I know who loved and cherished the first game miserable and no one even wants to finish the game BECAUSE of the story. You know how bad a game has to be to make a huge fan of the series not want to play a game they waited 7 years for. Yeah, its that bad SPOILERS AHEAD.

Imagine this, you build up a game as "diving deeper into Ellie and Joel's relationship" to kill Joel, one of your most beloved characters, in the worst way possible right at the beginning. We all knew Joel was going to die in this game, and yes he deserved it and it made sense. But to make Joel and Tommy look like complete idiots after surviving 24 years by following a random group down into a basement and giving them their real names.....when would they ever do that...On top of this, the game then makes Ellie watch Joel die and later tries to be like "Oh Abby really isn't that different from Ellie because she also sought revenge and her actions are justified and revenge never helps anyone" No. Just No. If Joel had walked into the operating room in the first game and the daughter of the doctor was standing right there, Joel would not have killed him. Plain and simple. The game tries so hard to paint Ellie and Joel as evil when Abby LITERALLY is shooting up her ownnnn peopleee at the raid of the island...You think Ellie would be shooting her friends from Jackson so easily if they turned on her????No because that's not in her character, or so I thought since you basically made Ellie out to be a selfish idiot and changed all of her character traits from the first game. Also, Ellie has remorse for killing others on her way to find Abby, throwing up after killing Mel. She doesn't want to kill innocent people but is given no choice, yet Abby literally never shows and remorse ever and only helps the 2 scars to make herself look better for Owen. Also helps him cheat on Mel......AND YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO ENJOY PLAYING AS AND SYMPATHIZE WITH ABBY.....if you are going to make us play with the worst character ever...please advertise as such and not fake trailers to make it look like Joel would be in more of the game. Thank you for trashing one of my favorite games ever and now I can no longer go back and enjoy the first game knowing how bad the sequel is. P.S. the only way to fix this is a DLC stating this was all a dream and start from scratch.

You know how easy it would be to write a story for this game. Start the same way, instead of offing Joel, have Ellie say I'm going to the hospital to find out for myself as she still feels deep down Joel is lying. She leaves a note saying where shes going and Dina goes with her to keep her safe. Joel finds note and decides to go after her because he is overprotective. CUT ABBY FROM THE GAME ENTIRELY AND THE WLF. Ellie runs into the scars blah blah blah, has to go through a city full of them. That's 10 hours of fun right there. She can get caught somewhere, perfect time for Ellie Joel flashback when shes knocked out. Joel arrives to save her. They start escaping, the whole Dina pregnant thing happens and Jesse joins the mix because he wants to protect Dina. Jesse dies saving Dina in some cool way and not by getting shot in the face basically off screen and never to be mentioned again. Maybe even have Joel get captured by the scars while helping Ellie and Dina escape. Joel gets taken to the cool island, the best part of the actual game, but make the island bigger and more like a jungle and another 10 hour section, have Dina stay behind at a safe location and promise to come back. Finally save Joel but maybe they are like a really messed up cult and had him get bitten so he slowly turns. While he is dying have him like cry and tell Ellie what happened at the hospital and that he was sorry. Finally Ellie has to shoot Joel and its all sad. Ellie gets help from the two scars to escape the island and they come back to Jackson. Ellie brings back Dina and they start a family and you fade to black with Ellie playing the song Joel played at the beginning to Ellie.

I just wrote a better story in literally 15 minutes than what you came up with in 7 years....Garbage

One, a group of people who are wise enough to rise above the written-in blatant emotional manipulation and doesn't fall for cheap emotional tricks, and therefore cannot connect to the story whatsoever and ends up hating it. Which is absolutely **** disastrous to the script, the script completely blows up and fails hard if you don't empathize or give two **** about abs, which the game tries very hard to get you to do in obnoxious ways. Lots of blatant guilt tripping which is eye-rollingly opaque.

Two, people who DO fall for the cheap emotional tricks as the director intended, and the script actually DOES work as intended so they think the game is deep and has the impact on them that was intended.

If I didn't feel like this game was constantly insulting my emotional intelligence with a combination of lazy and/or bad writing and ham-fisted manipulation, I'd give it a solid 7/10.

The gameplay is the same as the first game, with very little improvements from the first game. Basically it looks as if Naughty Dog has a game play template they apply to every game they make. If you line Naughty Dog games for their game play you will line this one. The presentation is superb as always.
However the story is horrible, badly told and i can not give a score of more than 4

The story is best enjoyed if you take it as a very bad joke told by a drunk comedian. It is badly written, horrible from a plot standpoint, filled with bad decisions. It pretensious in the strictest sense. It pretendent to be deep, moving, emotional. Its just bad.

For me the story was the game. Without it, a 6/10 is the most i will give it.

“Revenge is a dish best served cold!”

The thing about revenge is that it slowly strips away your humanity. A plot of a game based on revenge is a hard road to follow, especially when the game FORCES you to play as Abby, a character that savagely murders a central character to the game that in turn compels Ellie venture on a revenge mission.

Four years after their perilous trek across the treacherous post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have returned back to Jackson, Wyoming, where for all intent and purpose, live in a safe compound. However in the world of the Last of Us, safety is an illusion that can easily reveal itself, as while out on patrol with her girlfriend Dina, Ellie’s world is shattered to pieces and she vows revenge on each of the perpetrators.

Abby Anderson is a playable character from Seattle Washington that treks across the dangerous journey to Jackson where they hash out their plan for revenge. Once she finds the person she stops at nothing to destroy everything sacred to Ellie.

Ellie leaves the safety of Jackson and travels to Seattle Washington where she has to deal with infected, the Washington Liberation Front (WLF is also known as “Wolves”), and the Seraphites, called Scars by the WLF.

The Wolves are a strong paramilitary group that in the early days of the outbreak overwhelmed the military and scored a foothold in Seattle. They are well armed and their structure enables them to control most of the area around Seattle where they maintain control and patrol most of the area with their way of justice.

The other faction is a cult-like group calling themselves the Seraphites. They live in trees and abandoned basements or up in the skies. Most of them use arrows, spikes, knives, and other homemade weapons. Only the leaders have guns but most of the firepower is with their modest weapons and stealthy ways. Their way to communicate is via whistling and the first time you hear it sounds kind of ominous and creepy.

Ellie arrives in Seattle and finds herself in the midst of a turf war between the Wolves and the Scars. She must defend herself and survive between the hordes of infected, the Wolves, and the Scars.

The infected have also evolved, as now you have a new infected known as Shambler and the hulking menacing Bloater infused with other forms of the infected identified as the Rat King.

At the risk of spoilers, the game is broken into three days in Seattle period where you first play as Ellie, and then you play in the same three days from Abby’s perspective. Naughty Dog is ramming Abby down our throat trying very hard for the player to feel sympathetic for her, almost as an explanation for her actions in the very first section of the game.

We can emphasize with Ellie, we have an emotional connection with her and Joel, but in my playtime with Abby, I could care less. Additionally, the Ellie of this game isn’t that likable either. She can be cold and ruthless and lacks emotion. The game wants us to form an emotional connection with her based on everything she’s been through, however, she is a shell of the sweet and feisty Ellie that we loved in the first game.

I do not care for the gay agenda that Naughty Dogs wants ram down our throats. If the relationship between her and Dina is relevant to the story is warranted then that is one thing, but it seems to me that this wasn't warranted in the game.

The ending of this game also makes you wonder why we played this game. We went alone on this killing spree for hours only for the game leave us on an ending that made regret putting the twenty to twenty-five hours into an emotional rollercoaster of feelings that at the end made no sense.

I cannot give this game a zero but by the same token, I cannot give a ten. Originally after giving it an eight, I must reduce my score to a seven based on other factors of playing a new game plus.

В какой-то момент мне показалась игра затянута (в геймплейном плане), скорее всего это от того что мне пришлось проходить игру в 3 дня- несколькими большими заходами. И просто физически уставал играть, но после отдыха все вновь играется отлично)

    - While hidden, AI is very predictable with their movements. All stealth games have this issue though.
    - Can't switch which side of the shoulder your camera is on, only while aiming you can.
    - The story is really slow in the bulk of the game and a bit lackluster.
    - Too much of the story felt like you was doing detours, like getting fuel or medical supplies.
    - I felt a lot of my time was looking for loot and it's like I needed to do it even though it got old.
    - The story going forwards and backwards in time too often hurts the pacing of the story.
= The story isn't as good as the first game and even though the graphics are better, the image looks horrible with the film grain. You can turn the grain off while in photo mode and it's sad because the game looks so much better with it off, It's such a shame. It's still a very good game, but it's not been able to grip me like the first one did.

    Summary:
    - The plot is thought-provoking. Yes, there are more questionable story twists than we had in the first part. Yes, some of the characters are controversial. Nevertheless, it's one of the most mature stories for the game industry.
    - Visual graphics are stunning—the excellent final for the PS4 generation.
    - My applause to all the actors. All characters look and sound like real people. And yes, to all the haters of the exact actress. Grow up. Her role is the best in this story.
    - Music. Like in the first part. No other words needed.
    - Gameplay. Still interesting to explore and fight. Developers took some of their tricks from other games, like rope and grass gameplay from Uncharted 4, but it's great. These new (old) features freshened up the gameplay.
    - The team did an insane work with small details like face animation, physics, objects destruction, etc. You need to see it with your own eyes.

To sum up. Even if you find some characters, their decisions, or plot twists controversial; you still will be satisfied with this game. It's definitely not a zero/1/2 points like whiners say. If you love single players games, don't make them ruin your day. I wish everyone play the second part and enjoy the game.

I took so many screenshots with the games photo-mode, which has a lot of interesting things to play around with and you can easily spend hours of the game on it. With photo-mode you realise just how deep the detail in the game is. Also has amazing sound design and soundtrack. The zombies just look amazing like in the first, with some subtle redisgns and improvements from the first. Cutscenes look amazing, you can see the idividual features on peoples faces, scars, sweat, ect. Visuals in video games are as important as cinematography in films. People like to treat this as a side point, but video games are a visual medium. I could go on about how amazing the visuals are for a long time.
I love stealth games and this one is very solid. Levels are large with several parts and approaches. Enemies behave like actual human beings, constantly looking around them, making them more challenging to avoid and encounter (very different from the usual robotic behaviour of enemies in stealth games). Stealth take-downs are brutal, with characters choking, slitting throat, ect. You have a lot of tools to play around with, you can plant mines, unleash the infected on your enemies, use explosive arrows. It certainly isn't the greatest stealth game ever made by any means, but it is miles above what I expected. It had so many tense situations, with creative mechanics like dogs sniffing your scent. The human and infected enemy types are greatly improved over the first and behave in more organic, life like ways.
The combat is pretty tense, enemies go around, flank, ect. So many tense firefights in this one, like one time I was pinned by a sniper and prone on the ground and all the enemies stormed into the room at once and I had to shoot them while lying on my back, it was like a scene out of a film. I really enjoyed the game-play overall, interesting AI kept the stealth and combat situations interesting. The gameplay is similair to the first, but it's just so much better. I love the brutality of the visuals and the fighting, I was afraid that they might tone down on the violence but this one ramps it up. It certainly isn't the greatest stealth/shooter ever made, but it's very solid and several moments of the game that felt like they were scripted were completely organic. It feels like a film, similar to the first one. The visuals and game-play are top notch. The levels had tonnes of cool little details in them too, like how one area you go through is an abandoned library and has a kids section with tonnes of paintings on the wall.

I loved the story in this one as well and the entire cast of characters were well written and voice acted. I love how a major theme in the first game is luck, Joel and Ellie survive primarily because of luck alone. As Joel says luck runs out, the first game foreshadowed an event like Joel running into Abby, he got unlucky and payed the price for his actions in the first game. I love his death scene, it's like he knew the day was coming, when his luck would run out and his past would catch up with him. Similair to the line in the first game 'no matter how hard you try, you can't escape your past' and 'your luck runs out', his death reflects both those major themes from the first game.
I love that the story, like the first one, doesn't take sides. Joel is an anti-hero who killed a lot of people to save his 'daughter'. Although to Abby he was a villain, its a story thats open to interpretation, without the game ever pushing you one way or the other. It can be argued that Abby is the villain, she brutally murders Joel. However, Joel arguably destroys the chance of a cure to save his daughter, who he can't bare to lose a second time. The line where Ellie calls Joel an 'old fossil' is a nod to Sarah's birthday card to Joel and Joel taking her to a museum shows that she has become a surrogate daughter to him, who he adopted as a replacement for Sarah. Perhaps then Joel is selfish, he acts against Ellie's wishes and we clearly see that he uses her as a replacement daughter. I'm about to run the word count but I love the story cause it's morally complex and open to interpretation. Abby kills and tortures, so does Joel and Ellie, they do what they have to to survive. All three protagonists act in selfish ways, these are possibly the only good examples of well written anti-hero protagonists I can think of in videogames. You can interpret Abby/Joel/Ellie as a villain or as a hero and that's why I love it. Abby isn't a cartoon evil villain, you see she has compassion and care for other human beings, just like Joel and Ellie. To her Joel is an evil man who ruins her world. I empathise with her just as much as Joel and Ellie in the first. WORDCOUNT HIT :(

Definetly not a masterpiece. As a sequel: it sucks.
Everyone compare it to TLOU1, but i didn't see comparison with Uncharted 4.

Everyone compare it to TLOU1, but i didn't see comparison with Uncharted 4.

It's not about hate. It's about Neil Druckman's hate, especially for Joel. It isn't Ellie's hate. It's all about him.
This game is about Neil Druckman. And Neil is forcing you to feel that hate, especially in second part - when you're forced to play as Abby. You hear Ellie, you see Ellie. All you want to do is to loose. To let her win. But you can't. All you can do is to play and feel terrible and it's getting worse and worse.
I've even don't remember when i hated negative character THAT MUCH like Abby. Yupe, it's still an negative character. ND shows her motives, but i don't care (and it sux also) - it's just an bad and ugly negative character.
It'll be quite ok for a standalone or a spinoff. But as for an sequel? It's not.
Damn is so much about hate. Dear Neil, all i want for xmass is You. And an golf club.

Shallow stealth mechanics you've seen a thousand times before. Shallow shooting mechanics you've seen a thousand times before. It's the epitome of modern blockbuster movie shallow and forgettable.

It's the most ambitious and the least fun game that the studio ever has created.
Ambition... That word is accurate when you look at the scope, volume, and polish of this game, but unfortunately, that is not what I mean.

The narrative that this game is trying to sell is devilishly difficult to pull off. As you see by review bombing it's not one that everyone will get.
For me, it worked, and I'm astonished it did!

I think that everyone who called this game a hot piece of garbage regards the story stayed closed for what that game has to offer.
It forces you to grow as a person and a player, you will resist and you won't like it.
But if you stay open it will change you.

I never felt so many strong emotions playing a video game, part I did it as well, but there was light.
Part II is not afraid to leave you in darkness, by doing so it is a much richer experience.

    So should you play it?
No - If you liked part I, you think it was a perfect end to this story and want to leave this universe with a sense of accomplishment and closure.

Yes - if you are not afraid to be dragged through hell ride of fear, pain, excitement, and sadness.
AND CAN STAY OPEN FOR THOSE EMOTIONS

    It is worth it.

A technical accomplishment utterly ruined by narrative choices. The unbridled contempt shown by the writer towards certain characters (and by extension, segments of the audience) is evinced in the sadism, humiliation, and perversion which plays out in the story. A tonal mess that should never have been made. If Neil Druckman is still working in the game industry after this, there is no justice.

It does come at a slight cost however as it’s capped at 30 frames-per-second, dipping slightly below that in very rare instances. Music plays a central role not only enhancing the mood, but also humanizing the world and characters. If you manage to find a guitar lying around, Ellie can practice for a bit, offering a nice distraction from the unforgiving elements. Like the original, companions accompany you periodically on the journey. During combat they occasionally help out by dispatching enemies, but problems similar to the original game are still present. While partner movements aren't as awkward as before, they still feel artificial as they bounce around in an effort to follow your lead. When not engaged in combat however, they offer touching moments, levity, and insight into the world. Countless conversations range from mundane to deeply personal and further contribute to the incredible storytelling. The Last of Us Part II presents an absolutely crucial and challenging narrative about love and hate. Characters have convincing motivations that leave you thinking about more than what’s in front of you. The places it takes you to are awe-inspiring to explore, with unrivaled attention to detail, and although the combat is somewhat forgiving, it remains thrilling throughout much of the harrowing journey. The Last of Us Part II leaves a deep, emotional impact, and this unforgettable continuation should not be missed. Expand

Graphics, gun play and levels are really great in this one. The attention to detail is really high, immersing you even more in the story. The story is very central to this game and its portioned out in a good way through out the game.

So to the bad parts. The game is to long, a shorter version would have been more efficient. The actual gameplay also gets quite repetitive even if they do mix it up with some variations in enemies, you use the same tactics to take them all out. Variation in gameplay is mainly "cosmetic", different looking enemies and new environments. A few new gun here and there, but it is still very focused on sneaking. The sneaking mechanic is good, but to build such a long game around it ends up hurting the game a bit.
I feelt that the gun-selection was a bit clunky as well, did not quite like that.
There are also a fair couple of flashbacks and scenes that add nothing/little to the story and are just quite dull to sit through.
The story could have evolved better, the game is split in 2 sections - first as Ellie for 3 days, then your reset back 3 days and plays as Abby (about 50/50 split playing both characters). Your left in kind of a cliff-hanger from Ellie, which made me feel like I just wanted to "catch up" to the third day to see what happens. I think it would have made more sense to play perhaps one day as Abby, next as Ellie and so on to mix it up and keep the story a bit more interesting.

But even with the flaws, the game is still a great game. Its not a "one of a kind masterpiece" - but it is good.

Enserio ??!?!?!
    Mataste a joel

The basic component of storytelling in video games is the player.
If the behaviour and decision made by characters in the cutscenes or scripted animations diverged too much from players' common sense, the whole immersive experience would just collapse and evolve to rage and impatience.

Albeit the gameplay felt slightly old, with a few tropes we've seen before, the story never ceases to hurt and engage you, first by antagonizing your enemies, and then, believably and effortlesly convincing you of their humanity, making you question your heroes and purpouse and reflecting on the purpouse of revenge and the power of perspective. We're so used to a world of videogames focused on brainless blind-button-mashing-murder, that is refreshing when certain games bring about the oportunity to reflect - reminding me of Undertale in this subject.
Due to the gameplay, for about 80% of the game it felt like a solid 8, 8.5, but the final stretch was just devastating, surely a game i won't ever forget. This not only expands on the legacy of the first game, but sets a new standard for the series, and for video game storytelling and acting in general.

PS. All you whiny kids who didnt play the game, or cant handle the fact gender issues are a fact of life, or feel entitled to have your perspective on these characters persist in your fantasies, go write fan fiction, and not metacritic reviews. Of go play CoD and just give up on growing up. Anyone giving this game less than a 7 is acting in bad faith - the game is bugless, the gameplay is at the very least enjoyable, the acting is top-notch and the writing is phenomenal (NO EXPOSITION PEOPLE, OMG)
