This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us, more so than any other, was a game about people. It emphasised people inhabiting a post-apocalyptic world from different perspectives and how those perspectives shape their actions. People weren’t portrayed as good or bad, they were driven to their morally ambiguous decisions from either love or tribalism in these survival-of-the-fittest circumstances. On more than one occasion; whether through npc dialogue or a character like David, it was explicitly pointed out that we are NOT just killing npcs ala Call of Duty. Every person killed is related to someone else, has friends, wants, needs, agency etc, even if WE, as an aggressor or defender don't personally know the people we are killing.

Joel is driven to kill a surgeon in cold blood to save his surrogate daughter, just as the surgeon is driven to kill a girl on the operating table without her consent in order to obtain a cure for mankind to ensure his own daughter’s safety in the future.

By having the rising action of the entire narrative derive from a nameless npc Joel murdered, TLoU2 perfectly accentuates a tangible feeling of actions having consequences. You had no choice but to kill the surgeon because Joel had no choice. You’re not meant to reflect on your own actions (the game forced you to do it anyway), you’re meant to feel the weight of Joel’s actions and their consequences. To have someone who's state of life was ruined by Joel, come back and exact revenge is a very confrontational way to tackle a theme, and TLoU2 holds no punches in doing so. It doesn't stop and end at the story itself, either. It's ingrained in the design of the game. You aren't supposed to feel dopamine while killing/hurting people. When the game forces you to press Square repeatedly to choke Ellie (a character who the player’s sole objective in the first game was to love and protect), the game is meant to make you feel uncomfortable because Abby the character feels uncomfortable losing her humanity again in that moment after finally regaining it in the 3 days leading up to it thanks to the innocence of her child companion Lev. For me, seeing the game switch to Abby wasn’t annoying at all, it was more like “oh wow, this game is actually going to try and make me empathise with the psychopath who killed and tortured my favourite character? I’d love to see you try, Naughty Dog!” — which then prompted me to continue the game based on that intrigue alone. I just don’t get how anyone can suddenly become uninterested at such a challenge the game presents to them. I thought part of what made video games so appealing to people was the challenge; wether it’s the satisfaction of overcoming a hard boss battle or, in a revolutionary first-time attempt thanks to TLoU2, an exercise in empathy through the ludonarrative. How the game uses Abby’s half of the story as a parallel to Ellie’s is a genius dichotomy used to illustrate her deteriorating relationship with Joel — something that was foreshadowed as being the emotional hook of a potential sequel with the first game’s final scene. TLoU2 delivers on that promise in the game’s final Joel and Ellie flashback. Joel is stating that no amount of revisionist history would change his choice. He'd do the same act all over. Ellie never really came to terms with what Joel did and why, and her blame and frustration lead to them distancing in the final years of his life. During this scene, Ellie takes a step forward to extend a hand and try to begin a reconciliation process, which is also her trying to understand what he did or to empathise with it even if there's still a fundamental disagreement. Empathy would shift her anger and frustration from seeing Joel as someone who robbed her life of purpose, or as a selfish man, to someone who committed the act out of love even if it’s still a violent, questionable act in of itself.

The reason this takes place towards the end is that it takes Ellie hitting rock bottom to finally come to terms with this. She spends most of the game committing acts of absolute monstrous inhumane violence in the name of her love for Joel — which she feels she needs to physically prove since she never got to reconcile with him in the end. They're awful, irredeemable acts, but it is only in the climax, when Ellie has nothing left, that it hits her that this expression of pure, unconditional love is what also drove Joel to do what he did. The reconciliation is post mortem, Joel is dead and that'll never change, but Ellie has developed a sense of awareness of Joel's actions that she was once so angry about, and in turn, is able to stop herself from doing what’s more than necessary.

Ellie's memories of Joel are thus no longer violent and unfinished, laden with frustration, confusion and guilt, and instead replaced with memories of how much he loved her.

Unfortunately the main reasons why I didn't enjoy this game are:
1- complete false advertising on representation of the game, they make ubelieve that joe was going to be an imñortant character during, at least, a big portion of the game.
2- i don't see a game here, just an interactive movie with a very noticeaboe agenda to cover
Very dissatisfied with the game and the corporation

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Aside from all the amazing graphics. The plot of this game makes me feel like I am tossed with sh*t by some outsiders, but after I do the same thing to them they beg me to let them go? Do you, Neil, think that even if after the thing you treasure most, the thing you love most, the pride you uphold most has been shattered on the ground by some self-righteous people, you are still going to stand there and let go of your hate??? I don't get it. Let me teach you something about life, that is not something you will ever forgive about. If I were Ellie, I would have died for Joel. Revenge IS allowed in the civilized world as long as you resort to law. It originated, however, from a barbaric world like the one that Ellie lived in, and the one that Joel refused to change in the first game.

Ironically, in a game that boasts about it's equal rights about women and other minorities, the discrimination for Asian is so much that I feel sick about this kind of attitude.

One point for the efforts endeavored by the hard-working programmers who brought this game to life. I think I will never purchase any other game entitled Neil Druckmann as the writer in the future at all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having played through the game twice now, I can say that the Last of US 2 is a very strange experience and one that has clearly divided players and fans alike. I make this distinction between the two as I feel the game provides a difference experience for both and as a result will define your overall view of the game. Essentially I feel that Part 2 was not written as a game but as movie. It employs shock tactics, gratuitous violence against loved characters and emotive scenes to create an experience on a level not scene before in gaming , but more akin to TV shows such as Game of Thrones and the Walking dead. I say a movie as in-between the numerous cutscenes you pretty much do the same thing, explore each area clearing enemies via stealth or shoot outs in an identical manner to the first, the gameplay in many respects has not evolved at all from the first albeit a brief car and horse chase and use of a boat for parts of the game (however the game is visually stunning). The gameplay seems like filler and essentially something to do whilst you are watching a film. In my personal view it is this story that is this issue for many. The main problem is that part 1 and it’s DLC was so successful as it focused on the relationships between well developed characters (Ellie and Joel and Ellie and Riley) to great effect and created a story that fans became heavily invested in. This level of success is simply not achieved in part 2.The Last of Part 2 seems to destroy these characters for shock value and twists for the sake of a lesson about revenge and violence which has in all honesty been done many times before, especially if you have watched the aforementioned TV shows.
Many fans were expecting and led to believe that there would be a continuation of the previous story they loved so much but were in fact given the opposite and understandably feel aggrieved. Players who aren’t so invested in the characters, new to the series or who did not resonate with the Characters actions or relationship in the previous game may however have an entirely different take and really enjoy the game.
The second issue is the antagonist come protagonist Abby. Again many fans do not simply like this character. Her first act is to kill Joel in brutal fashion and become the catalyst for Ellie’s revenge and the first section of the game . The player is then made to play as Abby in the second half whilst we attempt to understand her motives and back story which lead to her actions. It is here for many that the writers fail to convey enough sympathy to fans for the character to mean anything, apart from someone they still want to exact revenge on (which does not happen). Changing an antagonist to a protagonist is a difficult feat and one that may have needed an entire game on its own to do. The ending itself may leave many feeling unsatisfied and it is continuing this story (if ND decide to do this at all) that will be challenging itself as many feel the heart has been taken out of the series.

As I see it the success of part one was in its 2 main ingredients Elle and Joel. These special ingredients have been used up in part 2 to create an experience not seen before in gaming, but now that’s it. Without them the series now feels like just another generic apocalypse scenario going forward. At the end Ellie is left alone and maimed and appears to have no further use other than to track or be tracked down by the fireflies (Probably Abby and Lev) and sacrifice herself for a chance or a cure, which to many diminishes the whole point of the first game.
There is no doubt that this title has caused huge debate not seen before on a game and if that was ND’s aim then they have succeeded. However I can’t help but feel saddened that such great characters which fans could have enjoyed further adventures with (as this is meant to be a game after all ) will never happen. I don’t feel that this game deserves such low or high scores (ignoring all the hateful comments) and feel that they detract away from the things that players and fans love/hate about the game. My overall view is that it is a venture worth experiencing but one that may not be to everyone’s liking and I personally wish that the Joel/Ellie adventure had not concluded in such a way. The flashbacks were my favourite part and the ending left me unsatisfied and craving more of the magic that we had in part 1. It is a game at the end of the day which is meant to be fun and I simply didn’t have that feeling come it’s conclusion. However my own experiences in life and the job I do mean that I look to games as a form of escapism and fun. Others may enjoy the “bleak real to life apocalypse story” hence why we are seeing such stark reviews.

While the first part made us fall in love with it the second part is as if some 5 yr old wrote its story line. While the game play might have slightly improved and the graphics are brilliant the story line which is the primary focus of this game is absolutely horrible. Save your money and buy the remastered version of the earlier game. That’s much worth it. Expand

Positive points : This game certainly pushes the limits of graphics in the previous generation and might also give competition to the next gen games that are gonna come out with the release of ps5, the level of detail in acting and audio is one of the best I've ever seen, plus the gameplay has also improved drastically even though the basics of the gameplay is still that of its predecessor.
Negative points : The story is an edgy piece of crap trying to shout "Oh look how different the story is, look what a piece of art this is, look we killed the main character in the first 2 hours of the gameplay and then made you play as his killer for more than 10 hours in order to have some sympathy for Abby and waste your time in the process" throughout the whole game. Personally, I like sad and grim stories in movies, tv shows, games, books etc. and most of the things i've seen tends to work perfectly on an emotional level, but this game seems to have done the opposite despite being a sad story. Throughout the game, i felt no emotional attachment to the game after Joel's death as I had literally no control over the events occuring in the gameplay or the cut scenes whatsoever(especially the end), yet the game constantly tries to show me how bad the decisions i made by killing hundreds of NPCs Humans and dogs were even though I killed them all because i had no choice over the actions while playing as Ellie. It feels like the writers of the Lou2 tried to shove their own ideas and thoughts while at the same time scrapping everything the first game was built on. Games are supposed to be fun even if the story is sad, the first part was extremely sad, but it was still a fun game as the chemistry between Joel and Ellie was so intriguing, and the audience wanted to know what more will happen to both of their relationship, the cure, the fireflies and other major parts. Scrapping the whole game, killing Joel early on in the game, and making the previous characters naturally unlikeable just for the sake of establishing new bland characters seems like a pretty goddamn dumb idea to me, because clearly it didn't work with the majority of the Lou fan base, not to mention the game was way too lengthy too. If anyone is going into this game without playing the first part, you might like it man but for someone who had waited for over 7 years for this, I feel thoroughly disappointed and dissatisfied with the final product. So much for a generic revenge plot, holy **** Neil/Naughty Dog.

Best and most well done aspect of the first game was characters and story, which completely missed the mark this time. Played thoroughly, got 31 hrs out of the game. So disappointed in the decline from such a great first game, have to take an extra mark off for that

Ellie not killing abby just means ellie wants the endless cycle of revenge to end, she cant do it anymore. Do you see the parallels from the end of this game and the end of the first one? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First, the good: Graphics, Acting, World-Building and level-design are all 10/10, the facial expressions are on-point, being probably the best I've ever seen. That's it. The Bad: this game doens't shine where it's supposed to: the story. Is it *BAD* ? No... But it ain't good. Some decisions made by characters in the story's key points are simply too off-character. three examples: 1) Joel walking in a house full of strangers. This makes no sense. Joel is a hardcore apocalypse survival and he didn't survive over 20 years by trusting strangers like that, the first game makes that clear. 2) Abby sparing Ellie after losing all her friends. We're talking about a woman that remained obsessed for years with killing a man that murdered her father, to the point where she even took up body-building to make sure that if she ever got the chance, she'd make short work of it. And you're telling me that this very same woman meets the person that murdered: a) her lover, b) her friend who is pregnant with her lover's child and c) the rest of her friends who might as well be her family at this point, and she let's this person lives?! Did Gandhi's spirit possessed her or something? This makes no sense. 3) Ellie sparing Abby at the end. This is also complete BS for 2 reasons: a) **** Climax: Can you imagine playing God of War 3 only to reach the end and witness Kratos not kill Zeus? Yeah, this is what this game will give you. b) Completely Off-Character: Throughout game 1 and 2 of the franchise Ellie establishes herself as a pretty violent person (as anyone with the grit to survive in an apocalyptic world would have to be), she brutally murders a lot of people along the way (I can't remember her killing anyone who didn't deserve it either because they were evil or because they were attacking Ellie herself and thus making it a self-defense situation, but that's another matter), which proves that killing, at this point in time, comes naturally for her. She also carved her way through half a post-apocalyptic continent pursuing her vengeance only to give up at the very end? If this isn't off-character I don't know what is.
All of these three points could easily be fixed by: 1) Giving more screen time to Joel & Ellie, showing how life in Jackson has made him soft (bonus: this would also be a much welcome fan-service; since Joel and Ellie's relationship is what made the first game special). 2) Show Abby not getting what she expected from revenge. Show her learning that "Vengeance is a fool's game", as Arthur Morgan would say. Not only that, but the way she tortured Joel also took a toll on how her friends relate to her and so she learns from the fallout of her actions that she needs to change and then she vows to be different just before finding her friends dead... This still isn't enough to make her spare Ellie, but you can make their fight ending a draw-like situation where both parties give up since they are both too **** up from their fight. 3) Show the toll of killing a pregnant woman has taken on Ellie's life. She feels immense regret for it and she's just not the same anymore. She still goes after Abby and the player is given the choice whether or not Ellie kills Abby or not at the very end.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you love TLOU because of the heartwarming feeling that the game gives you, then please don't get involved with TLOU2. If you are looking for generic gameplay, fantastic graphic, and some spice in the storyline (but still a wired choice), then this might be the game for you.
For those who don't want to read a full review, you can look at my short summary here (or the full summary below):
TLOU gives you violence, lies, and heartwarming feeling that emerge through the main characters' relationship.
TLOU2 gives you violence, lies, (questionable) moral dilemma trick, and sad and gloomy story.

    ===========SPOILER AHEAD===========
First, let's look at gameplay. I have to tell you guys that I didn't enjoy the gameplay of the first game. As you encounter the same enemy over and over again and your tactic revolved around sneak behind them and stealth kill, then re-establish your stealth again. There are some shooting in the game depending on how good your resource management is, but the gunplay itself feels clumsy to me. However, the game does provide you a vast variety of environments in each chapter as you go through the story but they don't change any aspect of the main tactic. I get bored in just 2 or 3 hours of the game and just wanted to rush to the next cutscene as fast as possible. TLOU2 still has the same gameplay with little to no refinement. For me, the overall experience of gameplay would be 4/10.

    ------- Graphic/Sound effect and ost/Voice actor -------
We don't have to talk about any of this topic because they are AWESOME (10/10).

    ------- Story summary/Climax/Take away -------
As you may see the game tries to get you to sympathize with both characters, shows you that the revenge only causes more damage to you and people around you, and forgiving can be a hard choice and even if you took the choice you still have to live with sorrow. Which might sound great for a game-takeaway right?
Well, the thing that annoyed me is I don't understand why ND just ditch the plot that gives a heartwarming and good feeling (even though the world is cruel and violent) to the player in TLOU and changes it to a gloomy and sad storyline. I know this is subjective, but I did set my expectation for a whole different thing (Nevertheless, who am I to judge? It's a ND's game, not my game).
Finally, the reason why I give this game a 5/10 game.
As a story-driven game, the story itself should be the most important element. However, the ending, take-away, or whatever you might call it doesn't prove or justify any moral question. Because even if you (As Abby or Ellie) spare life of a villain to prove that there are some good deeds in the world (or in the character), it still doesn't hold the weight against the whole story. Let's think about it, we all know that every character in this game is evil right? They have to kill many other humans just to get what? Medicine, information, resources, you name it, or even just to cross the bridge. And they will likely continue their killing as the story goes by (or in TLOU3). Showing the player just one or two characters' revenge-forgiveness cycle just doesn't seem to make any sense in a game that you have to kill to proceed with the story. I'm pretty sure that all the people in the post-apocalypse world have their own "good" reason for their action and there will by Abby2, Abby3, Abby4, and many more. For me, to choose such a plot just to set up a cheap moral dilemma trick or make an ending seem awesome to some audience proves that the writer is very incompetent. He/She might get blind from how good he/she might think the story is, then overlooked or unable to realize the main gameplay or the whole world of the game.
My brother said to me after we finished the game: What's the point of spending a 20-ish hour in this revenge plot as there are many more to come for revenge.
Me: Drove off for trade-in TLOU2.

Lastly, This game can never be a 10/10 (do you think the witcher3 is a joke?) neither 0/10.

Naughty Dog’s dual narrative that reveals itself over the course of the story made me grow with the characters, made me understand their different view on the world and what intentions they have. It is a rollercoaster of emotions. If you go in close-minded, you won’t understand the story and the brilliant writing that is presented here and miss the point of the game.

From a technical and gameplay standpoint, the sequel improves on its predecessor in virtually every way. The animations here are the best I have ever seen, in cutscenes that are acted brilliantly by the game’s cast, and also in the gameplay. Walking, running, fighting, grabbing objects and climbing looks and feels not only more realistic, but also smoother than in any game this generation. The soundtrack by Gustavo Santaolalla is amazing. The graphics, the details and the lighting create an outstanding overall presentation that makes you appreciate how much work has flown into it and sets the bar high for all the next-gen titles that will launch in the next five years.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a fan of the original game, I was looking forward to this sequel ever since it was first announced. I enjoyed the open-ended conclusion of the first game and the moral dilemma it created, so I honestly thought that a sequel wasn't necessary. However, my excitement to continue Joel and Ellie's story was evident and I couldn't wait for the sequel to come out. Now here I am, having experienced most of the game, and I can say for certainty that Naughty Dog messed up BIG TIME. The Last of Us' gameplay is the same as the last game, if not a little improved, the graphics are beautiful and the tone of the game is worthy of its setting. HOWEVER, The Last of Us is and has always been a game centered around its story, and boy is the story and its characters the worst part of the game. The characters that we came to love in the original game, the characters whose story was supposed to be expanded upon in this sequel are disrespected in the worst possible way imaginable. It is a slap to the face by Neil Druckman, who is clearly projecting his own agendas onto this game. The worst part was making me play as the girl(?) who hurts the main characters of the story and trying to make me like her, when in my mind, she's already irredeemable. The story itself is full of plot holes, inconsistencies, out-of-character moments, plot devices, dubious morality, unnecessary scenes (some of them disgusting), and an annoying theme of vengeance that doesn't work well with the ending, which made absolutely no sense and leaves the player angry for having gone through hours of gameplay for no payoff. Joel and Ellie's story ended in the worst possible way. Nothing like the original game and there was simply no respect for what the fans wanted. Expand

-Atmosphere gets hit really big. A problem naugthy dog always had but in game are very unrealistic scenarios that kills the game for me. Like in uncharted were the ground beneath you just did crumble too often, or young Nathan gets suddenly chased by 20+ agents and makes out of it. Here are the same problems with clickers and how stupid the characters behave(so you can have a dramatic story).

-The story, well not everyone is a troll hat spends the whole day online. Some people read great stories in books and game from time to time. To say it simple if it would be a book I would throw it away after reading. This is not a good story, it has an over focus on drama. These people probably think a good story comes out of how painful it is for the characters in it, like some artist that thinks true Art comes from painting an Image mostly black. But overall structure, deepness, play between the different strings the story sets out gets ignored. So this game is. The story wants to show you a big drama by not good structured means and comes with very forced acts. Probably the writers did loose themselves in their personal vision. A story does not need a happy ending to be good, but these story delivers just an emptiness no deeper message you could also have shown in a Call of duty, probably the message you get is that everything is bad.

Naughty Dog's work has been my life for as long as I can remember and the first last of us is one of my favourite games of all time and is also one of history's favourite game normally being held as the peak of cinematic storytelling in video games.

So for me and the rest of the world, this game had big shoes to fill. And despite all controversies I'm going to put it out there that for me, this game met the criteria. It's an ambitious project in terms of scope and storytelling, one which is painful to review without spoilers but I will try my best for the people of the internet but only because you guys are paying me by being on my website.

Let's start of with everything else and then we'll get to the story. As to be expected from any PlayStation exclusive, this game looks absolutely gorgeous. One of those games where it just looks better than real life. We learnt from the original last of us that Naughty Dog pushes the boundaries of a console towards the end of it's life cycle and my PS4s fan was in overdrive. Facial animations in this game are the realest they've ever been. Every expression on a face is detailed and purposely put collaborating with this game's scarily detailed sound design and heart pumping score to create sprinkle on top of the already detailed gameplay. The first thing I noticed about this gameplay is it's much scarier. And I'm not talking jumpscares I'm talking edge of your seat drop your controller intensity which as a survival horror fan I loved. This gameplay would be perfect and is at times when it flows beautifully and you feel powerful and brutal, heavily improving on the first game but as helpful as AI partners are they frequently got in my way. Once I threw a brick to trigger a trap and the AI just walked in front of it and the brick hit her head. She just stood there smiling. As funny as this occurrence is it breaks immersion. I mentioned this game was brutal but that's an understatement. The violence is disgusting and real and everything about it begs you to play it with headphones. I am a bit of a violence fan to the point it's concerning but we can all agree the detail they put into the sound of digging a knife into a throat and pulling it out to hear blood spurt out so realistically it even made me retch sometimes. The violence grounds the gameplay of this game to an entire new level.

The story is the most ambitious part of this game and the genius of it is it can only work in the format of a video game. I can't say anything to spoil but what I saw in this game I've never seen in another piece of fiction. My only grievance is for some new characters, you're not left emotionally invested with their stories being criminally boring but this part of the story is needed, still being a negative.

This game gets a 8/10. I don't get what the internet was mad about with this one.

Naughtydog should be ashamed of themselves. I am willing to bet that the leaks came from someone who saw what they were doing to the story, absolutely hated it, couldn't change anyone's mind, and ratted them out for revenge. Oh yes ....its pretty to look at, which is why I didn't give it a zero. But the story, characters, pacing, and the gratuitous violence (and yes, you have to kill dogs) make it unplayable. I loved the first one ....... the second one is appalling. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here we are ! I just finished the game. At the time I would definitely put a 3 but after thinking about it I put a 7. Graphically, nothing to say Naughty Dog is still doing his bit and the level design is there! The soundtracks stick enormously to the story telling and they put us extremely well in the atmosphere of the game. However, that is not enough to make a good game. We play a The Last Of Us for its scenario and the emotions that the game will make us feel through its characters, the attachment that we have and will have for them and twists to come. Like many players, I was shocked and terribly annoyed by the death of Joel. This brutal death which seems so .. "null" for the emblematic character of the license. This death was caused to shock the player, to put him in the same state as Ellie. Neil Druckman was wanted to create a feeling of revenge, disgust, envy of murders and especially the wish that Abby dies at the hands of Ellie. I myself wanted to uninstall the game after this scene; The disappearance of this emblematic duo to which we were all attached disappeared after an hour of play. We thus leave in the quest for revenge of Ellie followed by Dina his lover. The character of Ellie will change over time and this quest for revenge. As we go, we will realize that Ellie loses her human side and destroys everything in its path. So she kills Abby's friends to find her. We play Abby's character for almost a good half of the game. We learn more about its history and past. What's the point ? To try to justify the death of Joel, however we had understood his motivations and that could have been summed up much faster instead of making us play a character who all wished death. This part of the game is boring to me.

The game tries to make us empathetic towards Abby, however for my part it did not work especially on the spot ^^

After Ellie is beaten by Abby and she had to give up her revenge we now see her living a good life accompanied by Dina and "their" baby JJ. Having given up on this quest, Ellie is happy despite the fact that she is still haunted by the death of her adoptive father, Joel. That's when Tommy reappears to everyone's happiness and puts Ellie back on track. She cannot give up her revenge and she abandons her family and her farm to set off again in search of Abby. Great twist having amazed me enormously! Ellie then finds Abby almost dead and exhausted from the torture she suffered. It was then that a hand-to-hand fight broke out between the two women. Close to drowning Abby, Ellie finally gave up killing her. Personally when Ellie drowns Abby, her gaze broke my heart. Ellie had lost her humanity and only been overcome by her desire for revenge. I was pleasantly surprised that she didn't kill Abby. Neil Druckman wanted to restore the little humanity that remained in Ellie at this moment. Like us, Ellie understood then that all that led to nothing, killing the one who killed Joel will not bring him back to life, she will never be able to see him again. Unlike her, Abby had only killed the person directly responsible for the murder of her father. Ellie had killed Abby's friends even though they were not directly responsible.

When Ellie returns to her house, she discovers her empty house, without Dina. We understand then that she lost everything by wanting revenge. This end is heartbreaking, I for my part cry for long minutes. The final Flashback with Joel shows us that the day before her death, she told him that she could not forgive him but that she would try. Joel therefore died without knowing if she had forgiven him. It is horrible and heartbreaking. The moral that Neil wanted to transmit to us in this work is that revenge leads to nothing, responding to hatred with hatred will not solve the problems and will only make things worse. Definitely a wink compared to the current situation in the world.

To conclude, I think The Last Of Us Part 2 remains a beautiful work all the same. The scenario is far from high-flying but the story being told well and the emotions well felt it gives us a game that remains appreciable. Joel's death remains questionable in my opinion, and some scenes are too. But it is a dramatic story that we have there and that touched me personally. I don't know if there will be a sequel, but it's a possibility even if I'm not sure how it could bounce on it. In any case, the title of the game takes on its full meaning at the end. Ellie will remain the only survivor, and she will have lost everything as she said in 1 "All the people I love and who stays with me end up abandoning me or dying" The circle is complete.

It is a very different opus from 1 and I understand the community's dissatisfaction with the script. But you have to know how to open your mind and how to embark on the story that we are being offered in order to be able to fully enjoy the work that is on offer!

Thank you for reading. Its not very structured and i'm sorry for that ^^ Bye !

The Last Of Us II. Expand

Excellent game. It had a lot to live up to and didn't quite reach that heady peak. However, it further develops the world, shows the consequences of the big decisions of the first game, and develops a double narrative which makes the climax a study in ambivalence.

As somebody who actually played through the game beginning to end, I can confidently say that not only was the story a perfect continuation of the first, but now that I've seen it for myself, it's an absolutely essential companion piece to part 1. One of, if not the best story in video games. You really must experience it for yourself in it's entirety.

What I think after letting it sink in for a couple of days and first writing a negative rating.

What I think after letting it sink in for a couple of days and first writing a negative rating.

Objectively, it is a good game. It just isn't a good experience as in something you really want to experience. And that is really contradicting.
A fair warning to everyone that is currently having a bad time in his life, just don't play it until you feel well and think you can cope with raw anger, sadness, and being heartbroken and disturbed. The game will make you feel bad emotions on a level that I've so far only experienced from real life. The difference here is that books and movies have some distance, which is lost if you are actually playing the character. Those reactions for me were the reason to rate the game bad first, because I rated those feelings. Objectively, and with some distance, and that's hard to do if you are really invested in the story and characters of the first game, it is a good game. The game achieves what it wants to do, it challenges you on an emotional level, and it does it so well that I got mad and broken for doing that to me.
In the end, it's just a game, but for me it's not that easy. The first TLOU is connected to a lot of personal stuff for me, it came in a time where I needed a light at the end of the tunnel, and it was just that.
The second game actually drives you into a tunnel and leaves you without light, at least that's what I felt.
I think it would have been a good idea to use new characters to tell the story, but on the other hand, it wouldn't have had the impact Naughty Dog wanted to achieve.
I also think the marketing should have been clearer about what you have to expect. I know what I have to expect if I go to the theatre to watch Joker. But if you expect an experience like the first game, it hits you like a truck, and I think that's very unfair. It's just too much.
If you are like me, you might not play this game ever again, just because you don't want to go through the experience again. RIP trophies.

    The good:
    - Breathtaking visuals
    - Great level design
    - Excellent world building
    - Amazing music and sound effects
    - Acting and animations are the best I've ever seen in a game
    - Accessability options are very appreciated!

    The mediocre:
    - Gameplay is the same as in the first game, you will still enjoy it though, if you liked it in the first one

    The bad:
    - Too long for what it wants to do
    - Tedious scavenging for pretty unimportant upgrades - this might change with higher difficulties though, I played on normal
    - Some plot holes and unrealistic story parts (would have to spoiler, but I don't mean the stuff everyone is hating on, more like unrealistic "teleports")
    - Some characters feel without depth
    - The game forces you to do things which you might not want to do. The only option is to stop playing. Which is intentional though, and part of the experience. Just be prepared for it. I would have liked an option and player decisions.

The game is huge and in a technical section it is brutal, beyond the forced situations of the characters in terms of inclusion, the story is very good and knows how to play with you, an emotional experience that made you feel something, whatever you say.

For the most part the mechanics of this game are fantastic (as expected), but with that being said, I can not for the life of me understand why Naughty Dog wrote the story that they did. The story was a major disappointment for me. I do not think I have ever been so let down about a story before in my life. I understand that having a story not go the way I want it to go is just my opinion, and that the developers can take the story in whatever direction that they want to, but I do not think 95% of people could have ever predicted that this story would go in the direction that it did, and I think that was a major mistake on Naughty Dog's part. I do not mind when a company wants to subvert their audiences expectations; but I only agree with this approach, if the company stays true to the characters; The Last of Us Part 2 does not do this in my opinion. Also, in my opinion, from a pure business standpoint, the direction they took the story makes no sense and I believe will hurt the overall sales of this game in the long run.

One character in particular makes/says some of the dumbest things ever, that they would have never of said in the first game, and it complete betrays who the character is. The only justification for having the character be so stupid, is because the story needs the character to be; hence poor writing. Not to mention all of the other bs that Naughty Dog had been doing up to the release of the game and are still currently doing. I stayed away from the spoilers for the most part, but I was paying close attention to what was going on with the copyright claims on accounts on social media websites. Here are the biggest reasons why I think people are so upset about this game:

    1) The trailers for the game were extremely deceiving.
    2) The illegal use of copyright infringement towards a number of Youtubers, Twitter Users, and other online platforms.
    3) The Leaks - After playing the game, I completely understand why people who saw the leaks are furious and why they did not purchase the game (And they have every right to have this opinion).
    4) The Vice-President of Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann's comments and trolling of fans before and after the release of the game.
    5) The vast majority of media outlets not having the backs of or reporting on what Naughty Dog was doing to Youtubers and Twitter users who were having their videos struck down or being banned for memes on Twitter.
    6) The media's take on the users scores on Metacritic (review Bombing); this take is invalid considering that a ton of people are also giving this game a perfect 10 out of 10 with no context. Reviewing bombing goes both ways, but a lot of times media outlets only like to report on the things that fit the narrative they are pushing.

Overall from a gameplay and story perspective I have to give this game a 3 out of 10. The story is that awful in my opinion, and is a giant slap in the face to a large portion of the fans of the first game. It is absolutely fine if you enjoyed this game, I honestly envy you and wish I enjoyed it as well, but the negative criticism that this game has been receiving is 100% valid and anyone telling you otherwise is blind and naive.

I would like to thank all of those at Naughty Dog who had nothing to do with the story or any of the antics that your company was doing throughout the development of this game and build up to the release of this game; I am sure you all worked extremely hard on this game and truly did an amazing job visually and mechanically.

Some of the best visuals I've ever seen in an entertainment product. The attention to detail shows how much the developer truly cares about making the world as compelling as possible. Besides a very great and realistic combat mechanic, the gameplay felt very old in the first half. Same old weapons from the first game, and no big innovation to the gameplay besides a jump button. The second half of the game introduces the player to a brand new arsenal of interesting weapons that heavily improved combat in a much-needed way.

The realistic world sounds and deep compelling soundtrack really pulls the player into this brutal and dark experience.

Visually and audibly, the game is a big step-up from its predecessor.

The new supporting characters are very likeable but go through little development from start to finish. Some are likeable, while others are boring and uninteresting.

The story fell flat at times, and I felt no connection to the protagonist in the second half of the game. At times I would rather purposely lose to my enemies, rather than putting up a fight. Not a feeling a player should ever experience. The ending was great in my opinion but taught the protagonist a lesson the player had learned long before that point. The bad execution pulls the story from being great to good in my eyes.

I really want to give the game a positive 9/10, but the poor executed story and characters leave me with a mixed 7/10 review.
