    How did it end up like this? I didn't think it was possible to go from 100 to 0 so quickly, but Naughty Dog did it. A complete 180 in storytelling and direction. Both games shall be remembered: The Last of Us as a testament to storytelling and setting, and The Last of Us Part II, how to butcher a legacy in record time.

    This feels like a fever dream. How can this be real?

    Played the game start to finish. Could not believe it was named last of us part2. I have waited 7 years for this game. The first one for me was the best game ever created with incredible characters and story. I finished it 16 times honest. Everything that made ma love the first one is missing in the second one. What this game suffers from the most is the shock value. Somehow masters of storytelling, at least until this game Naughty Dog did the absolute cheapest and lamest decision in order to shock us. I expected much more from them.. Well at least this game taught me to never again be excited for something when it comes to good storytelling and never again trust Neil Druckmann as a writer.     1st fked up part: 2 fking hrs into the game and the most beloved character from the first game got killed disrespectfully
    2nd fked up part: play as the mother fker who've just butchered Joel
    3rd fked up part: in the end, somehow Ellie spared the life of that fker after a few flashback of Joel and ended up losing 2 fingers

I heard about the leaks before playing so I was curious to see what was true and I was deeply upset to see that most of them was true. 30 mins in and we get a weed smoking scene. Are you serious? By this point I already dont care about ellie or her friends. Shortly after Everyone's favorite, Joel is killed, and in such a disrespectful way, to see him treated like that was not a good start to the game, then I get an eyeful of..gay? sex, my how progressive we have become. It looks just so awful with these rendered models that the 30 second it was on screen was enough to hurt my eyes. So now we control Joel's killer in some attempt to sympathize with.. her. This is where I want to stop playing, such an unlikable character already but okay let's see this through. A bunch more characters dies that no one cares about. We have to kill several dogs, in a sad attempt to tug on the heartstrings. In the final moments of the game ellie decides to save Joel's killer, then ellie then changes her mind another 2 times and decides that killing is bad, after killing a hundred people to get to her, just get your **** revenge jesus. Abby eats ellie's fingers, she cant play guitar so sad the end. Joel is basically in the game just so they can kill him and defile his corpse. Definitely wont buy another naughty dog game. Graphics are good, games is same as previous game, except you can jump now. This game is a failure and doesn't deserve the high scores it received.… Expand

    The new low in terms of implementing social propaganda in videogames. The absolutely horrible story with the most disgusting "plot twist" ever - way to subvert our expectations, Neil. This Part 2 **** all over anything good that was created in Part 1, if you liked TLoU 1 then stay the hell away and save your money.

    The graphics on this game where truly beautiful and the fighting style did have minor improvements but in this story oriented game, it lacked every single aspect. If I had to sum up the story without spoiling anything, all I would say is that this story is just one huge dumpster fire and that I would not recommend this 60$ game to anyone, this for me was a waste of my money and a waste of my time.

The writing in this game is an affront to storytelling akin to GOT season 8, the circumstances that lead to Joel's death in the first hour are so far out of character for him its not even funny. Then you spend the whole game absolutely despising abby, waiting for the chance to kill her was the only thing that kept me going. Then you get to the end and you don't even get to kill the **** because the game forces you to spare her out of some sort of misguided idea of what Joel would have wanted. Pretty sure Joel from TLOU would have been fine with you murdering the 'women' who beat his **** head in with a golf club as a reward to him for saving her life. Game sucks ass waste of 60 quid gameplay is identical to the last game so a 3.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the first game. I have the Joel edition for the ps3 and the remastered edition for the ps4.I also have the dlc for the ps3. I really liked it.

    When I saw psx, I think in 2017... I **** cried. I've seen that interview... Idk, maybe 40 times. I just love Troy and Ashley. And part when Troy said "don't let fear be the reason why you don't do something".... oh boy.

    So yeah, I'm not here just because they **** up the franchise of my favorite game of all time. I'm here because I have seen everything. And I really hate it.

    I don't hate the game because they kill Joel. That was something that they had to do. But the way they did it. You can clearly see him totally out of character. Doing and saying stupid things that a survivor as him would never say or do. And then there's Abby. Oh boy......

    You can feel the agenda from the beging. All white males are bad. The only two white males are off the picture as fast as they can get them out. Then you have the lesbians, the hulk and the trans (and the asian soy kid...). And yeah, you have lots and lots of talking about kisses... and feelings.... and sex scenes...... I mean.... really? Who the **** wants to see Abby's man titis? What the **** is this? This should be a continuation of the story, but it isn't. The narrative is veeeery bad, the gameplay is repetitive and boring....     All in all the game itself is not bad, the acting, the graphics, game engine, the beautiful views, it's all there but the story is so unbelievably awful, all these incredibly terrible decisions. I can't believe that this is what we get as a sequel to such a masterpiece.

    GRAND DISAPPOINTMENT.

Both of them embark on an adventure and explore the world    Let me ask you one thing, why was The Last Of Us special? Its graphics were tremendous but quickly surpassed by next-gen games, and the gameplay wasn't something groundbreaking.

    The biggest reason was the story.

    A dad loses his daughter, loses hope for years, until he gets a straight forward mission to help an innocent girl. Both of them embark on an adventure and explore the world at the same time as the audience/gamers. Eventually, both of them became emotional towards each other. At this point, the audience/gamers see them as a father and a daughter. When the time comes for the finale, the man is put in a similar situation to the beginning, where he is about to lose the girl like he lost his daughter, but this time he couldn't let that happen again. So he helps her—cycle complete.

    With The Last of Us Part II, the story has taken a backseat, without a spoiler it is all about revenge. And it is not even a good revenge story. So all the game is left with is Good graphics and decent gameplay. Both of which are not enough to play through the kind of damage you'll receive for loving the characters in the first game. Moreover, if you're a forgiving type of person this game will force you to do things you didn't want to do.    … Expand

I just finished the game and I'm heartbroken. Joel and Ellie's optimism from the 1st game were thrown away and you FORCED me to play as the worst character in game history, WHY would you think anyone would chose to play as the person that killed a beloved protagonist?!?! Game LOOKS beautiful, gameplay is top notch. I will be lending this out to EVERY person I know so no extra $$ go to Nitwit Pup… Expand

    Worst script ever. It’s like they wanted us to feel hate by infusing hate to the developers. I’ve avoided the leaks for so long but starting to play this game, I wish I had seen the leaks and I would not spend $59.

    This 2 points are for graphics and gameplay, and nothing else. They completely dismissed the lovable relationship between Ellie and Joel, and replaced it with awful SJW stories, nobody in their right mind simpatizes with Abby and nobody cares about the transgender character in this game. This also proves that you can NEVER trust any journalists review, Im looking at you IGN.

    In the other hand there is the story, The last of Us was a game about the last humans trying to survive in a savage world, this game ditches all that story and it's only about humans doing human things, the virus has lost all of it's weight in the story and it's just like a very secondary plot. The writers also make a titanic effort to make you empathize with the new characters and too little to actually develop the old ones, there are parts of the story that feel too long and others that feel too rushed but the worst part is that they reutilice a lot of locations and scenaries just to make the game longer in things that they could add in a cinematic.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you were impatient to continue the deep stroy of TLOU focus on the bond between Ellie and Joel you might get disappointed with this game. While the gameplay is an enhance version of the original its repetitive when you are 15 hours into the game, with fewer puzzles and simply succession of infiltration, escape and murdering sequence. The graphics and audio are amazing, but the realism become sometime unbearable with extremly violent scenes throughout the game and also a few sexual scenes (which were poorly handled). The big disappointment however come with the story. Its simply a classic revenge plot, which make you follow Ellie for the first half, while the second half focus on a new character Abby who stole the spotlights, despite being the antagonist and the person to kill in the first half. And don't hope to continue your adventure with Joel. False advertising may show him in various sequence, but it was actually another character in this sequence or flashback. Joel is killed from the beginning, with no hope to save him, and the ending doesn't even give you the satisfaction to make revenge for Joel. Instead you let the murderer get away, and you watch Ellie abandonned by everyone, and thinking about killing herself to create a cure.

    I didn't play the first one. I played the first 2 hours and got kinda bored. Looks great from a technical stand point but not for me in terms of the boring game play loop and the boring from what i've played . I should have saved the 60 for ghost of tsushima

    I’m giving this the highest possible low score simply because the graphics, gameplay, and main cast performances were all still good. But dear god, the writing. I’m moving forward with the mindset that TLOU 1 is a one and done game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story is so poor, we spit on everything that was built during TLOU 1. Joel was a real T-800 during the first adventure, remember the ambush scene with the truck? That's Joel, a guy who doesn't fall into traps and doesn't trust anyone.
    And in TLOU 2, suddenly, after rescuing a stranger, he finds himself in a dark room with a dozen people armed, reveals his real name as if they were his buddies and gets shot. writing 0/10.
    And because above all TLOU is a game that has succeeded thanks to its story and characters, as well as a keen sense of detail, destroying this legacy because of some kind of nauseating anti-vengeance/non-violence moral forced down the throat is absolutely unacceptable. It doesn't matter if you put trans or gay people in the game, we don't care, but stop forcing your political agenda in games where it doesn't belong. Do you really think that in a situation where society is collapsing as a result of a virus that creates zombie fungus trans people would be a topic for discussion?
    - "you're gay, you're trans, you're both at the same time? I'm happy for you, now let's find some food to survive." That's what it should look like. It should never be the main topic of this **** story. Unfortunately, it is, with this stupid anti-trans cult (who gives a **** and these empty characters who are just there to act as a token so that everyone can feel represented.     I just finished playing through this game and I have never wished I had not played a game more. The story ( in particular the ending) was terrible. I am disappointed that I got my hopes up so much for this game.

    Sometimes you have to take risks to make changes to the story of a game and make it more interesting, but this time the change made the story worse,The Last of us, which for me was the best game in story mode of all time, introduced new characters that were atrocious ruining a video game that was excellent.

    game as Abby is another trash to US who wanted to see Joel and Ellie story not Abby story about **** revenge for her father and this game dont have multiplayer so you play half game as Ellie you happy the second half and end you are thinking why a play this **** :D

    Из минусов, очевидно, часть игры за Эбби, персонаж неинтересный.
    Так же мне кажется что в игре стало слишком много ресурсов, по сравнению с первой частью, где ты входил в бой с 1-3 патронами. Проходил игру на сложном уровне, при этом в каждом здании было не сложно найти кучу вещей для крафта и с десяток патронов.
    Из-за этого не 10, считаю что 1 часть была лучше, но и во 2 рекомендую обязательно поиграть.    … Expand

    Leaks were right. Characters are unlikable and fake. Story is awkward and full of plot holes. The views, scenery and visuals are pretty good though. Not much has changed in general gameplay and mechanics, they feel the same like in the first game.

    Allow me to simply deconstruct this game, just as Naughty Dog deconstructed the characters that we loved and forced us to play as one of the worst characters ever written. First off, I don't necessarily believe this game belongs in the 0/10 - 1/10 range because in my opinion, both the graphics and music are so good that they single-handedly lift the rest of this game to a below averageAllow me to simply deconstruct this game, just as Naughty Dog deconstructed the characters that we loved and forced us to play as one of the worst characters ever written. The graphics are beautiful, we all know that, but the music is hauntingly introspective and really follows the policy "less is more." I really believe Gustavo Santaolalla deserves more credit, as this is some of his best work. period. That being said, THE STORY IN THIS GAME IS ONE OF THE WORST I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. Allow me to take you back to 2017, where I finally got my hands on the Last of Us Part 1. I had already seen the game on youtube, but I didn't care, because I didn't see all of it, and I had heard how good this game was, but I wasn't sure if having the game spoiled for me would lessen the impact of its story on me. Oh, how was I wrong. From the likable yet insane hobbit that was Bill, to the duo of brothers in Henry and Sam that just screamed "double trouble," to the fatherly redemption story arc that was not a new story, but one of the best written stories ever told. The Last of Us was about a broken man, who had his daughter taken from him in one of the most tragic, one fell swoop moments in video games period. This event caused a shift in his life to become the hardened, lonely smuggler we knew him to be, and it was about this same broken man learning to trust, learning to confront his greatest fear that he could have a family again. The hope of the world of the Last of Us has been sucked from it due to the outbreak, yet Ellie embodies what hope there is left, hope for the world, and hope for Joel. From the death of Sarah, to seeing Bill's reaction to Frank, to Henry and Sam's demise, all of these were designed to represent the brutal nature of the world. Yet this violence, these deaths were all used in different ways that made you feel different things, and both after the death of Sarah and of Henry and Sam, I had to set the controller down and sob, because it made me reflect on the personal tragedies of my own life and helped me relate to Joel, my favorite video game character period (well, Tied with Arthur Morgan, they're really similar in some ways lol). The death was used in ways that made you think, in ways that made you look at the Last of Us not as a video game, but as a story I could relate to. In this plot, the characters have all turned emo, the world is so intentionally bleak it is worse than the Metro series of games, and the violence, good Lord the violence is so overwhelming that instead of making me think, it just made me cringe. Yes, we all understand that Joel killed hundreds of Fireflies and Hunters in the original game, but that was due to his remembrance back to Sarah, and we were able to identify with his struggles. Here, Joel is reduced to an idiot who trusts everyone he sees, and the characters you grow to like, such as Tommy and Jesse, are killed off (well, at least Tommy survives) so suddenly and abruptly that I was LAUGHING in what was supposed to be one of the climaxes of the game. What I'm trying to say is that even though the goal of this game was supposed to make me think, it ended up desensitizing me to the violence that was going on because of how it killed characters off in such a comedic way, rather than with the weight that it did so in the first game. Ultimately, I am going to try and blot this game out of my memory and hold out hope that we can get a remaster of the original for PS5 and be done, no sequel, just the masterpiece that was the first game.… Expand

    Simply magnificent, the best game I have ever played in my entire life. A must have for ps4 owners and a reason to buy it for those who don't. Who the hell thought seriously that it's a good Idea to kill a main character using a complete unlikable brat, nobody knew or wanted in the game? Gameplay-wise TLOU2 doesn't offer much new, but it's good made. I give one point for the great graphic and animations, and one point for the effort with the actors and sound effects. Also one point for the atmosphere. And that's it. I'm not impressed.… Expand

Joel and Ellie legit don't have an interaction with one another throughout the game excluding the flash backs. And not even 2 hrs in Joel dies. I dont have a problem with charecters dying but the way they killed him was an absolute insult to the players. And the ending what the hell! your telling me you killed all these people to end up not killing the person responsible for Joel's death. And naughty dog is trying to make me feel sympathy for a charecter (abbey) in a 20 min cut scene and who literally killed one of the best things if not THE BEST thing about last of us. Maybe if we played as abbey before she killed joel it would be more forgiving as I wouldn't have to be forced to play as her.Joel's transformation of a cold hearted survivor to a loving father figure it's a journey we will always remember i couldn't care less about the message about the game "revenge"who bloody cares its so on the Damn nose why not have a revenge story for every single person Joel has killed. I dont mind having a key message for a game but it shouldn't be so blatant and so good Damn forced. I think a message in a game should be the cherry on top not the Damn core of the game. They could have talked about side stories which further explain the tlou world such as Ellie's mun's past, Joel's and Tommy's and the two females' (i.e., Firefly's) past. But they decided to make a cliche revenge story which is not related to the tolu world except the characters.

    They could have given Joel and Tommy common senses that they got from years of dangerous life. But they decided to take away their awareness to dangers. They could have given Joel or Tommy a meaningful death. But they decided to give Joel a pathetic death and make Tommy into a useless naggy middle-aged man. The could have kept the cliche story generic but functional. But they decided to give it deep meaning, meanwhile, failed in writing such a script.

    +1. Graphics and sound is really good. Game play is very similar to the first game, with some improvements. Story is the games biggest problem. Its so bad that I wanted to stop playing the game. The ending is so bad it makes playing through the entire game feel unsatisfying and a waste of time.

    I loved the TLOU because it had an amazing story and and great ending. However, TLOU2 could had have a great story if a certain character wasn't killed of disrespectfully and really way unnecessary too much plot relating to SJW stuff. Also the ending could have been satisfying if the score was settle just like a certain character who did settle the score to keep someone they love safe.

    Next disappointment is the game mechanics, the only improvement for the player is only the movement capability. TLOU2 still have the same combat mechanics and same stealth gameplay.    … Expand

The graphics are great. Yup.. Oh and you get to pet the dog. The negatives. Listen, the concept of fighting both sides of a revenge story is actually really cool and interesting. But DON’T do it for a sequel to a story that has 2 characters we have loved and been attached to for 7 years and expect us to enjoy playing a character that kills one of the two, and then we as the player have to actively try and kill the other character we love. Like seriously.. did they expect us to have the same attachment to Abby as Joel/Ellie? I expected Joel to die in TLOU2. I think all of us did. It’s incredibly cliche and predictable, which is arguably a flaw in its own right, but what I despised is the way he was murdered. It’s disgustingly violent and slow. And the fact we are supposed to sympathise with Abby after she did such a thing, and murdering him like that in front of his ‘daughter’, completely degraded her story of getting revenge over her dead dad. She refused to see how murdering a ‘father’ in front of his ‘daughter’ is beyond evil, even after she experienced losing a father herself. There’s no sympathy shown, so how are we so sympathise with such a person?

    Now, I’m not saying Joel and Ellie are angels, but Ellie’s violent actions in TLOU2 would’ve been avoided if it wasn’t for witnessing Joel’s awful death. Joel’s murdering of the Fireflies in the first game was something I always thought to be purposely made for a sequel, because if he threatened or found another way to not mass murder them then there would be no suspenseful set up for a part II. Regardless, he did murder them, and although it was definitely wrong, there is a bigger picture to it than just that. And so, even though he committed such an act, the majority of players still loved him as a character and treasured him even after all these years. THATS what good character writing is. There are many characters written to be villains but are still likeable because of certain characteristics that make them feel human and understandable, even if you wouldn’t act as they did. When it comes to Abby, I wanted to try and feel sympathy. Where Naughty Dog failed was the way she furthered violence instead of seeking closure. Now, I understand from a writers perspective Joel had to die for there to be a purpose in TLOU2 blah blah blah. But what lost me any sympathy for Abby was HOW she reacted. She could’ve killed him to get her revenge for story reasons BUT she could’ve showed hesitance during the killing, or killed him quick so he wouldn’t suffer, or showed heavy regret and pity for the pain she caused. That would’ve made her more real, more likeable and less of a cold murderer. This game is depressing for the sake of being depressing. It feels as though Naughty Dog wanted to create this game to get praise from critics because of the heavy atmosphere and concept rather than care about the fans who have waited 7 years to see their beloved characters. They’ll continue to retweet positive reviews and ignore fans criticism. I will add the only other ‘good’ thing I liked was sparing Dina (lmao this sounds so pathetic) as I just wanted some sort of happiness left for Ellie. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, this is just mine, and I choose to pretend this game never existed:)

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
