This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I cannot even begin how to process what just happened here.

We waited 7 years (Thank god it's not more than that) for this. I don't even know how to describe what they did here - they butchered, killed, and destroyed what was once the best story a video game can ever have. They just did an unnecessary death which is just really, really, really stupid. I do get that his death was coming, but woow, what a way to trash it. It's like watching Harry Potter movies without Harry Potter, and even worse, by killing him in the first 10 minutes of the film and rub his death on our faces, spat and rudely tease it. That's how stupid the story is. And then they try to let us empathize with a character we literally do not even care or have any idea about. You just made the #1 game in my opinion, to the worst game ever. I am so disappointed.

God, I tried so hard to avoid any spoilers, but holy **** if I did see any, I would have NEVER bought this game. It belongs to the trash.

In the end, is there any "Ellie" there in the real world who might want to start a revenge plot against this game's director? Count me in if there is. (this is a joke, but wow I cannot measure the level of anger I got from this game).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story was a massive downgrade from the first game and having to play as Abby for like 12 hours was significantly less fun then playing as Ellie. When the first Seattle Day 3 ends the game takes such a dive. The combat however was really good throughout the game. The ending was a cop out as well. Overall I had fun playing it but the story leaves you feeling like you did a lot from nothing. Which is why my score is a 4. It was a lot of fun until it wasn't. Expand

Horrible story, perverts characters from its predecessor. Events and characters are boring, repetitive and nonsensical. Seems like druckman didn't want that tlou was bigger than him, so he destroyed tlou. Also, the publicity of the game was a blatant fraud. I could keep on for ages, but this game doesn't deserve more of my time.

They did not improve on the gameplay from the first game which was made seven years ago. The story was badly written and felt at times like a cheap fan fiction. I feel like the director of the game has no idea of what made the first game so successful. Neil Druckmann is the gaming worlds version of M.Night Shyamalan.

Since the 2016 reveal trailer, i can say that the majority of tlou fan base, including myself were excited to know that one of our favourite games of all times was going to have a sequel. Instead of that we were given an bland revenge story with an even more bland as well as non-sense ending. What a shame of a game.

The game is beautifully made and near perfect in every way. The bold story choices are intentional and work ideal if you understand the game on a deeper level. The game is a sequel to the first one, meant to play in extension to the first one. This game is gr8 on its graphics, its music and dynamics. Still it's more a test than a pleasure to play it. There are many parts that you literally get killed a couple of times on purpose as you don't give a fu** about the character you are playing.

Being a fan of the first game and actually considering my all time favorite, having played the campaign, at least 15 times and probably thousands of MP hours, and to this day i play it once a year with the hopes of reliving the experience i once had with the game. My love for the first game has compelled me to raise my voice, tell these companies that we are still the ones who buy your games, you cannot simply disregard the fans and everything that made the first game click with us for the pursue of some ambitious yet risky narrative that YOU KNOW will divide your fanbase.

The only reason i giving it a 4 is because its enjoyable for the most part, gameplay-wise, its beautiful and if you haven't played the first game or didnt care about it, you will probably like this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The biggest disappointment in my gaming history. I played through the first game at least 20 times, just to have it all mean absolutely nothing with this pathetic sequel. -Joel And Tommy would’ve NEVER walked into a room with that many strangers, they survived 25 years in the apocalypse. Joel spotted an ambush in the first game simply by the way the guy was screaming ‘help.’ -The game tried so hard to make Ellie unlikeable. She is the polar opposite of the Ellie we knew and loved. No charisma, they made her out to be a monster. While glorifying Abby. -Speaking of Abby, WE DON’T GIVE A **** ABOUT ABBY. You introduced her and tried to get us to care about her past. You tried to cram it all into one game, and tried to make her out to be the hero. We bought the game for Ellie and Joel, not for a piece of **** character that came out of nowhere. ‘The daughter of the guy Joel killed’ give me a break. Joel killed hundred of people and not one of their family came after him. It’s the apocalypse. Such lazy writing. “Oh let’s take one of the NPC’s Joel killed and humanize them, make them relevant somehow and BOOM! We have our antagonist.”

-The trailers deliberately deceived us. -A Pregnant woman can barely move without being uncomfortable. She sure as hell can’t kill clickers, run, jump over obstacles, lift heavy objects, etc. Just the ‘Female Power’ propaganda being shoved down our throats.

-FEMALE POWER. We love females, we’re not savages. But the whole ‘anti-male’ narrative that I felt the entire game is so exhausting. ‘This is way better than anime’ is a line from one of the male characters, as the females roll their eyes, implying that he’s an anti social idiot who hasn’t experienced nearly as much as these ‘heroic females.’ -A FEMALE CANT BE AS BUFF AS ABBY NATURALLY, WITHOUT STEROIDS. She looks like a She-Hulk. -A lesbian relationship, smoking weed, and a trans character being used as a ‘woke token’ for brownie points with the media is a terrible thing to glorify. We don’t care about that stuff. We just wanted to see Ellie’s relationship with Joel grow and flourish. -NO SATISFACTION. Ellie murdered hundreds of people throughout the game, just to have the ‘revenge is bad’ realization at the end. Didn’t even kill Abby. AS IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH:
The biggest sin against The Last of Us fanbase is not even preparing us that we would be spending 10 HOURS, HALFWAY THROUGH THE GAME, PLAYING AS A CHARACTER YOU WERE JUST INTRODUCED TO, WHO JUST MURDERED YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER. Didn’t even mention it at all. Oh, and not only that, but that part of the story starts at the most climatic part of this pathetic story. So you’re left wanting to speed run Abby’s storyline, just to get back and see what happens. Oh! Your skill tree and weapon upgrades that you put so much effort and time into? Bye-bye. Completely resets. All weapon upgrades, and skills, are reset. I talked about how amazing The Last of Us was for so many years, telling my friends that it’s the greatest game I’ve ever played. I’ll continue to play it, but I’ll spend the future telling them that part two is genuinely the worst game I’ve ever played. Positives? The graphics and gameplay are top notch. If only they used those mechanics to give us the story we deserved, instead of desecrating it’s existence.

I only encountered only a couple of glitches throughout my entire play through, a texture on a ceiling vent was flickering and the other was Ellie’s backpack had a mind of its own for a few seconds when starting one of the later levels.

Game play: Yes it’s a little dated compared other faster playing games and the controls feel sometimes clunky just like the original, but it wasn’t broken then and isn’t now. Knowing that that your character is likely to sometimes stall at an obstacle and can’t wall jump, back-flip or negotiate the chapters like a professional free runner adds to the thrill of the combat in the sometimes claustrophobic environments.

Music Voice Acting and Sound effects : Are all fantastic and you can feel the emotion and effort put in by the actors.

Story: I Loved it in the end! This game took me on a roller coaster of emotions, I felt happy, sad, angry, shocked and at certain points numb in a complete state of disbelief. I love complex characters and the main characters choices in this story can seem wrong or not what you would expect. Once I finished it I sat back and went over their points of view I came to the conclusion that what I thought I wanted out of this sequels story wasn’t what I got but it did everything a good story does and that doesn’t make it a bad one!

I'll start with what isn't good:
Story, Characters, Character development, and holes in the plot:
Known characters act out of character, and other characters aren't properly fleshed out, including at least 2 very key characters to the story, which result in players/viewers having either a mixed or completely negative view on them as individuals. There are actually interesting and likable characters in this, but only few overall. The story in it's current state is almost piss poor, having events and actions of characters both new and old that don't really make sense or just hurt the flow of the story and the player's experience with it. Some events even seem more about shock value than anything else. The fact that this is almost constant in the game doesn't give any help to it's case. And though they try to make this game into an intriguing revenge story, it falls flat on itself a few times, and just ends up.......weak and confusing to some, especially once the games over. Though I won't go into detail, once you play the game, you see these problems 2-4 hours into this 25 hour "experience". If you were for the story of The Last Of Us part 1, part 2 may not be your cup of tea.

Now, there here's what's good about the game:
Graphics, Design, and overall look is a definite 10/10. Every place you go to in the story has polish, and is just magnificent. The detail in visuals and interactions in the settings shown really make this game an amazing PS4 title in terms of visuals, no doubt the best in the consoles history. The atmosphere is also rich in each area, getting you in the right mood for the moment whether it be dread, nervousness, a sense of calm. Level design was alright and nice to navigate, but not really a large factor. Sound and music were very nice, in my opinion better than the first game. If you love visuals and sound, your gonna enjoy this game alt.

Now the game play: is honestly the same as TLoU 1, with only minor changes. Ultimately it feels mostly the same, which really will be hit or miss with others, but is a bit disappointing since it relies on old controls.

Overall, I have to give this game a disappointing 4/10. The game play will be fun if you like the TLoU gameplay, but if you didn't, it might seem mediocre to you. Graphics, and visuals are top tier, without question. The story will be the big hurdle, being VERY hit or miss with players (as seen everywhere online). If it misses, your experience will be ruined, with little chance of it getting better at the end. If it hits for you, then, you MIGHT just like the game up to the end.
The worst part about it is that NaughtyDog had almost everything for a good game in their hands, from the characters to the events that happen in game. Yet somehow, they messed up in execution. IMO, if the order of some events were simply changed, and some characters had more screen time , without any major character changes, TLoU part 2 would be closer to being an understandably great game, though not exactly the same as TLoU.

Naughty Dog has made a very bold move with this game. It's a story not everyone will like and that's ok. It's a harrowing, chilling, emotional story filled with revenge and ultimately forgiveness. It's not a satisfying or happy story but rather one that makes you think about what you've just experienced.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

But it's not a good game, it's not fun, it's repetitive and unnecessarily long. Just when you think is about to finish you realize you're half way there and you have to do the entire thing again with another character. There is a massive build up to what feels like it's going to be an amazing climax but it's not, it's bad and then you have to play more repetitive missions that mean nothing and are again not fun. I've just completed the playthrough and I'm ashamed of all the hate I gave Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann. The game was actually frickin' incredible. The storyline was multilayered, thrilling, shocking and profound. The characters (along with their dialogues and relationships) were organic, human and didn't feel unnecessary. The graphics were bordering on next-gen. The stealth mechanics were a huge improvement from the first game (which was nearly perfect in its own right).

To anyone who thinks Naughty Dog failed, play the game or watch a playthrough online before you judge the story based on a few disjointed scenes.

    I can't decide between a 9.5/10 and a 10/10. Bravo, Naughty Dog.

This game, in summary is like: "Remember that beloved character you sympathised in the whole story of The Last of Us? Good because now we are going to show you that he/she deserves this death. Yeah this one. Pretty quick and disrespectful right? Look at how edgy we are, how innovators, how... different (rubbing their nipples). Why killing it like that? Because that person killed a lot of human beings, people with their own story. And now we offer you a more realistic way to see TLOU by controling, the one and only, character who killed the most important character of the first game". So what's the whole point of The Last Of Us 1? Anyway, you can't even call this game a part two, because it isn't. It doesn't add up. We don't really know what were you thinking.
Thanks for the first game, but this one needed more heart, humanity and passion to be a decent sequel. I can even say that this sequel was totally unnecessary.

Her crew probably tortured him to the point where he cries( based on what Owen says before he and Abby have sex). If you have played the first game this is simply not forgivable it does not matter how good she Abby might be she tortured a guy who is like a father to Ellie. While the game does a good job at bringing out her story it's difficult to enjoy it if every fiber of your being wants to stab her.

The gameplay is actually enjoyable however once you start playing as Abby you just want it to stop. The same goes for what can only be described as the best atmospheres I have seen. I guess the only saving grace for the fans of the original game is that Abby has no friends or loved ones left. To those who think that it's amazing how you overcome revenge in the end please try to understand that it's not how one would feel when it comes to having your loved one murdered. Also if you think Joel deserved to die because he killed the fireflies and prevented the cure again try to imagine having to let go of your loved one for some **** cure.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I personally play videogames in order to get rid of all real life political and social **** So I thank you Naughty Dog for forcing me to lose interest in The Last of Us! Even though I have finished playing the game due to a personal administration to the gameplay and astonishing graphics, I still am not fulfilled by the story.... Plus, injecting a personal hate not only into our beloved Ellie but the fans too is definitely appalling!
To me, the narrative failed. It shows no respect to The Last of Us' main characters, nor the fans too. I would have admired the game at least if they had us get to know Abby first, understand where she's coming from. Maybe have her father show his good influence on her, then eventually when confronting Ellie, she goes through a moral conflict and puts Joel down out of an unbearable sorrow to ..maybe.. make Ellie feel her agony. But definitely show an ending that would give Joel a heroic death that he deserves. I understand the concept of (you never know what the assumed to be villain is going through), but writers need to understand that choosing to spit on the dignity of a main character like that is definitely going to force us to hate the game.
    So yeah..I'm very disappointed....

Somehow, Naughty Dog managed to strike a darker tone than its predecessor, and after the eight days it took me to complete the story on medium difficulty, I was emotionally exhausted. Yet the characters and their plights haunted me well after the credits rolled. Sure some of the themes were heavy-handed, the pacing suspect at times, and the character motivations questionable. The story was a bit manipulative, but I have to give Naughty Dog credit for successfully manipulating me. I went from rooting for Ellie in the beginning to changing my allegiance and backing her principal adversary. I enjoyed the improved combat sequences. Encounters in the original game were a bit monotonous, alternating between clusters of infected and bands of faceless human baddies. The "Left Behind" DLC gave us a tantalizing introduction to encounters with multiple factions, and the sequel provides an even wider variety of conflict dynamics. The sequel expands upon all the things I enjoyed most from the original: the detailed settings, evoking poignant reminders to a dead civilization, frenetic combat, and moral relativism.

All the main characters are weary and jaded, having long since become numb to the horrors of a lawless "zombie" dystopia. I particularly enjoyed one optional throwaway dialogue that is triggered when Ellie and a companion discover the ruins of a store specializing in Halloween items, a callback to a similar scene in a mall featured in the "Left Behind" DLC. No longer the irreverent goofball who puts on masks and relishes puns, Ellie shoots down her companion's attempt to engage her in a conversation about their festive surroundings with a cold remark about not being into such frivolous things.

I've read many of the critiques of the story, but I do not share them--at least to the extent that others do. Joel and Ellie were no angels in the first "Last of Us", and I almost thought they were let off easy in the original's conclusion. Joel, in particular, had many sins to atone for, and the original dropped plenty of clues. There was Tess' line about them being **** people." There was Joel being too familiar with the brutal tactics of the Pittsburgh killers, and hinting that he had engaged in similar practices prior to the events in Boston. And, of course, there was the gratuitous violence he inflicted upon the surgeons at the hospital. I would have been surprised if the sequel did not introduce a new character with sympathetic motives seeking retribution. It quote Clint Eastwood's character in "Unforgiven," "we all have it coming."

I have already started a new game, with the intent on acquiring all the items and upgrades I missed in the original. I doubt the sequel will have the same replay value as the original and the DLC, not because of diminished gameplay or storytelling, but because of the tragic end that befall so many of the characters and the relentless misery. Yet, at its core, it's still a video game, and a beautiful and engaging one at that. This is still a world in which a bullet wound can be cured in seconds with a bit of gauze and tape, and taking enough of those expired pills in your medicine cabinet will teach you how to make more efficient pipe bombs. So let's keep things in perspective here!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This franchise has the continuity of a Friday the 13th film. It took absolutely everything from the first game and threw it away. They killed off a huge factor in the first game's success withing the first two hours, and the rest was just nonexistent throughout the game. The new characters introduced went through little to no development throughout the course of the game and they were overall non-memorable and boring. Even some of the characters from the first game were dulled down to fit the **** boring character motif prevalent throughout the game. The whole revenge fueled plot was nothing new or exciting and reminded me of some **** 2000s action revenge film. Then, the game threw a curveball at the players and forced us to play as a particularly unlikeable character in a **** attempt to "humanize" her, but in reality, it just made the few people who made it that far in the game want to quit even more. After that **** experience, the game gets even worse with the ending. What is the point of killing off a major character, and setting up an entire (yet **** story about getting revenge on the one person who caused it all just to let them go scott free. It makes for a very shallow and unsatisfying ending that completely voids the entire playthrough and makes literally everything for nothing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hands down, for me, the best game I have ever played. To call this a game is actually far from doing in credit. It's a story, a movie if you will, that lets you play the key characters pitted against each other. You're shown hate, the cost of revenge and the compulsion the characters have that costs so much.

I was shown through game play what each character's motivation is, what they faced and how they grew up not too dissimilar but ended up miles apart.

At first I questioned some of the decisions that were made in telling this story but I relaxed and let it happen as I was escorted through feelings of love, hatred, jealousy, bigotry, mindless war, genocide and morality.

I left amazed, almost numb at the story that was told. Such a beautiful well designed story told via a "game".

If you play this game please be open minded, let it lead you and enjoy the trip and ponder the choices you're thrust into and see how they make you feel. This is not a game where you just run around and blow stuff up, it's a game that fills in a character's story, colors between the lines and sometimes outside of them, but for a story that is about the end of the world, the destruction of humanity and self and the struggle to remain human and just in the face of nothing pleasant - my god they delivered a knockout.

At the end, when Ellie forced the fight with Abby who had been clearly broken by what she when through and her devotion to someone else (something that Ellie ended up losing) was just amazing. I literally told myself at one point in the fight that if it tells me to fight more I won't hit the button - amazing that the story moved me from hating Abby to understanding her, feeling disbelief and sorrow at Ellie and her choices.

I hope they continue the story, maybe this time continue with Abby to see what the Fireflies are capable of again and if Ellie deteriorates further into self destruction.

My hat is off to you Naughty Dog - amazing work.

As someone who played Part I more than 100 times my expectations for The Last of Us Part II were really high. Especially after all these years of waiting. After playing through Part II for the third time, I'm happy to say that my expectations were even exceeded in a lot of ways. But of course there are some aspects that could have been improved

PRO + Graphics: Keep in mind that this
As someone who played Part I more than 100 times my expectations for The Last of Us Part II were really high. Especially after all these years of waiting. After playing through Part II for the third time, I'm happy to say that my expectations were even exceeded in a lot of ways. But of course there are some aspects that could have been improved

    PRO
+ Graphics: Keep in mind that this game is running on really old hardware (even on the PRO). And it simply looks amazing. Kudos to Naughty Dog for this level of quality. I can not wait to see this game on PS5.
+ Animation: I have never played a game with such high-quality animations. This also has a huge impact in terms of gameplay
+ Gameplay: I already liked the Gameplay Naughty Dog delivered in Part I. Of course Naughty Dog does not reinvent the wheel in this category ("simply" stealth, shooting, dodging etc.). But the gameplay simply feels absolute right. And compared to Part I it is a really perfect evolution that stays true to the original game. And the animation does the rest. They way you feel the character is simply amazing. Hitting stuff, getting hit, dodging etc. is more than impressive.
+ Atmosphere: In Part I I always loved the atmosphere. You had moments where everything was quite and beautiful. 5 seconds later infected would swarm you and you had to fight for your life. And Part II even delivered in this category. Infected (especially Clickers) sound creepy as hell Same goes for the whistling of the Seraphites.
+ Audio: I would not call me an audiophile. But audio quality is always important to me. I am currently running a 7.2.6 setup. Unfortunately the game does not have support for stuff like Atmos or DTS:X. Which is why I am using Auro3D to upmix the 7.1 LPCM Signal. And the game simply sounds fantastic. Even without the Auromatic. This is another important factor why the atmosphere in this game is so good.
+ Story: A lot of people criticize the story for "ruining the characters" and "creating plot holes". I can not agree with that. It simply is not true, but I do not want to spoil the story for you. To understand the story of Part II you really need to understand what is happening in Part I. Then you have think about what is happening in Part II and why it is happening. This is really important. Otherwise you won't be able to understand the whole story. To quote David from Part I: "Everything happens for a reason". The game really had a lot of moments where the controller felt so heavy in my hands. One thing I have to add: Joel also followed Henry and Sam in Part I after they invited Joel and Ellie to follow them.
+ Accessibility: Luckily I do not need to use these features. But I know people who need them. And Naughty Dog did a really awesome job with these settings.
+ Soundtrack: Gustavo Santaolalla created another absolut fantastic soundtrack for this game. Especially these: Unbroken, Collateral, Beyond Desolation are fantastic. But: Part I had a few more memorable soundtracks.
+ AI Improvements: This was really important to me. The AI in Part I really was not that smart. With Part II Naughty Dog improved this a lot. This goes for your enemies as well as for your ally's.
+ Performance of the actors. I guess this is self-explanatory

    Not great, not terrible:
o Seattle feels pretty monotonous from time to time. Not because everything looks the same. But in Part I you had more, completely different areas. Luckily we got a bit more variety during the last few hours.
o Too much film grain. I understand why film grain is there. But I never like it. Usually games have a slider to turn film grain down or even off. Part II does not have such an option. The only way to get rid of the film grain is during photo mode. And Part II looks so much better without it.
o You are not able to disable the listening mode. In part I it worked
o No way to re-watch cut-scenes in the menu.

    Con:
    - You still can not crouch-sprint. I could swear I have seen this in Part II promo material. But maybe I am wrong. But for some reason I expected to be able to crouch-sprint. For Part I Naughty Dog removed that function after showing it in early gameplay.
    - At some points the AI is a bit too unfair while playing on survivor. Do not get me wrong. I know that the game is supposed to be really hard on this difficulty. But it simply is not cool if you are sneaking through an entire area and suddenly you get detected without an enemie being anywhere close to you. Sometimes I even have the feeling that clickers are able to see my flashlight even though the game claims that infected are not able to see it.

That pretty much sums up my pros, "not great, not terrible" and cons. In the end I would give Part II a really good 9.6. Since Metacritic does not allow this score for user-reviews I have to round this number up to 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Story: Awful, full of accidents and 0 probability
Characters: Only used as tools for the plot; everyone is so awkward and impulsive
Gameplay: repetitive fights that get boring in couple of hours, meaningless collections of cards and coins

Mixed with the attempt to manipulate players' feelings and 'educate' them, this game would make you feel terrible in just a few hours. Definitely not recommended

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The REAL genius of this game is that the people most pissed about Joel dying are outraged FOR THE SAME REASON JOEL DID WHAT GOT HIM KILLED. They are self-centered, entitled men who went to toxic lengths to to reject the story they were told for the one in their heads, and are happy to COMPLETELY disregard the bigger picture of this world to play the hero. Shame there aren't enough golf clubs for all the haters. Heart broke for Ellie, Tommy, Dina, Jackson...but I also **** LOVE Abby & Lev. When she turned around to save those two kids, after after losing almost everything....I felt the same way I felt with Joel after the ranch house in 1. This game is about what is the last we have to give before there is no more of you left...and what it says about you. If you didn't get it, you weren't supposed to. Expand

Great ending, it leaves you with a very good feeling, sad i have to say but makes you "understand" why abby did what she did and how for the Ellie´s crusade she lost everything. It was a rain of sensations, sometimes you was sad, others happy. Joel dont die like a hero because he isnt, taking Ellie and killing the doctors was an act of selfishness and thats someting that the game tells you

I don’t even think it’s a 10, but it sure as hell isn’t a 4.9 just because your expectations were subverted. Naughty Dog once again tells a BRILLIANT story in such a raw, powerful manner. The “twist” at the halfway point may throw you for a loop, but if anything it makes the game BETTER even if it doesn’t cater to fan demands.

Most people rating negatively are doing so because its not the story they wanted instead of evaluating the story for what it is, and what this story is....... is a narrative nightmare with a beginning that is rushed, a middle that is hollow and flat for Ellie's portion and disingenuous and emotionally manipulative for Abby's portion, and an ending that is not justified by the middle. MajorMost people rating negatively are doing so because its not the story they wanted instead of evaluating the story for what it is, and what this story is....... is a narrative nightmare with a beginning that is rushed, a middle that is hollow and flat for Ellie's portion and disingenuous and emotionally manipulative for Abby's portion, and an ending that is not justified by the middle. Major story moments that would make the game great feel unearned and contrived for the sake of plot. Also, Ellie's much of portion is spent alone which made the experience dry.

Every single side character, besides Lev, is merely a slave to the plot. They are all replaceable plot devices that act only to serve the plot's message even if that means acting out of character. Lev is the only side character that directly affects and develops one of the main protagonists, Abby, while undergoing his own arc and being enjoyable in dialogue and gameplay (like hopping across the broken skyscrapers), and even he ends up doing by far the stupidest thing in the whole story even though he seems very intelligent.

The worst part about this game is the pacing. While the flashbacks are enjoyable for both characters, they are placed awkwardly in the story that diminish the content of the flashback while diminishing its contribution. Had these flashbacks not been flashbacks but rather been events shown in chronological order (besides Abby's motivations for doing what she did; this should've been shown at the "golf course" after she takes that first swing and the screen cuts to black) switching back and forth between Ellie and Abby, the story would've benefited as we could be shown the true motivations for both characters' vengeance and could understand and sympathize better with both beforehand. By making these scenes flashbacks, it created a huge disconnect between what the player knows and what the character we are playing as knows. The middle of the story (the Seattle portion) would have benefited from switching back and forth between the two at the end of each day in Seattle since the cut away from the climax of the story to Abby's portion was extremely jarring and felt unearned and forced. Also, long and drawn out combat sequences, especially for segments featuring infected, made much of the gameplay feel like filler. Just as a combat sequence was ending... more enemies would appear. Even if all the pacing issues were resolved in some way, the major story moments would still feel unearned and contrived.

Both Abby and Ellie's decisions at the end of the second act and at the end, respectively, feel unearned and forced for the sake of the plot's message. Little to nothing justifies these decisions, and its the main reason why this story is a complete disaster. Also, the boss fight at the end of the second act was the most disgusting and unearned boss fights in gaming history and to force the player to engage in it is unforgivable.

Overall, a bad story told extremely poorly and in a sloppy, messy manner featuring two unlikable protagonists, weak and forgettable (besides Lev) side characters, and an underutilized soundtrack as much of the game is spent without a companion for banter. If you know what misery feels like, do not play this game because this is literally a misery simulator with the only moments of happiness are poorly-timed flashbacks.

This is the worst story ever created by a triple A developer, regardless if it was a sequel or a stand-alone game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
