    It’s like 10 craziest Korean art house movies fused in one. ND disrupted the standard frame of player’s experience and made you feel so bad, but this is the best point.

    I would first like to say that I am not a new fan of TLOU, I played the original about 5 years ago, and a few more times over the years, so I have been waiting for this game for a LONG time. I managed to avoid all but one spoiler (i didn't watch any spoilers but I saw a couple of comments on twitter), and sadly it was a large spoiler, but in the end I didn't let that deter me from playing the game because I know that context is extremely important. I am extremely happy that I played it.

    I will admit that this game didn't go in the direction that I had originally expected and wanted. I was wanting a continuation of Ellie and Joel's relationship, a story about forgiveness and redemption after the ending of the first game. I wanted to see them grow as father and daughter and repair their relationship after the strain and distance caused by Joel's lie. However that ended up not being the case. You could argue that the game is about forgiveness and redemption, however it is definitely not in the way that I expected.

    I think this game is an absolute masterpiece. GOTY material. I loved the sound design, the mo-cap performances, the visual design, everything. The AI has improved so much and it helped with immersion immensely, I was genuinely stressed throughout all the encounters and trying to strategise (and failing) each time I came across an enemy. The story is - for lack of a better work - intense. I've never known a game that could make me feel such intense and raw emotions throughout; I sobbed uncontrollably (if you know, you know), I laughed, I smiled until my cheeks hurt, I felt genuine fear, anger, pain, and I think most prominently, I felt an immeasurable amount of grief. Overall, this game f***ed me up mentally, but I think I respect ND for being able to do that.

    I enjoyed the story. In my opinion, I think ND could have gone with multiple different story lines and it still be accurate, I think this is one of them. Consider this, in the first game it is made clear that Joel is a POS before he meets Ellie, he has been a smuggler, and a hunter, and has done who knows what. He has killed countless people; some innocent, some not. He says to Tess that they are survivors, but he was also a murderer. I think Joel dying the way he did was a very probable thing, he probably had so many people that wanted to kill him, Abby just got lucky finding him. Don't mistake this as me saying that I'm glad he died, I wish more than anything that it didn't happen, it broke me, and I truly think that he didn't deserve to die the way he did (maybe? I'm a bit conflicted. Finding it hard to look past my personal feelings). I think Ellie's character development was amazing from start to finish. I could feel her pain and her anger. Some things she did later on the game I didn't necessarily agree with, but I could understand why she made certain decisions and acted the way she did. She was angry with herself, with Joel, with Abby, everyone, and I could feel the development of those feelings throughout the game.

    Abby. Personally, I can understand why she killed Joel, I mean, he literally shot her dad and ruined the chances at a cure for mankind. However, I think she had no right to take things into her own hands. Joel did what he did to save his daughter, he felt guilt for years after. Put yourself in Joel's position; you have traveled across the country and been through traumatic experiences with Ellie, and you have formed a bond with her that you haven't had since before Sarah died, suddenly you are told that the fireflies are going to kill her and you can't see her or say goodbye, and you will be killed if you try anything. Ellie & Joel weren't told ANYTHING about how they would make the cure. Joel had no time to digest the information. He acted as any father would, and saved his child. I personally feel that if Abby and Jerry were in the exact same position, Jerr would have done the same thing, and I wish so bad that Abby recognised that. I hate Abby for torturing Joel when he killed Jerry quickly, however a VERY SMALL part of me can understand the anger she was probably feeling. A lot of people like Abby after playing TLOU2. I am not one of those people. I can't forgive her for what she did, but I can at least understand her and recognise that she wasn't an all-round terrible person, she was just human.

    The reason I gave this a 9/10 is because of the ending. After 5+ years of waiting I believed that we as an audience deserved something more than the extremely ambiguous ending we got. I know Neil has said that any ending we assume is canon, but I can't accept that. It doesn't console me in any way to think that what I want MAY be true, it doesn't help me deal with my grief. The only positive from the ending is that it opens up the game to a Part 3.

    Overall, even though the pain I feel almost 2 weeks after finishing is very real. I love it all the same. Will play again.    … Expand

As a bad thing, I think it is needlessly too long, they could have deleted some parts easily which were less relevant, and the last hours became to me a little bit tedious, but seeing how the story ends after being playing all these hours I got satisfied.

    In my opinion, it doesn't deserve too much hate, but I admit Naughty Dog probably risked too much in some parts that could have some players got angry about it. Anyway, they advised it was going to be different and would take the player into hard feelings or decisions, and for me they succeed in it and it was a great experience to me!    … Expand

    This game is amazing. I haven't ever played anything like this. The part 2 was even better than the first Last of us game. I have been waiting for Assassin's Creed Valhalla so much but now I'm afraid that it doesn't feel anything after this game.

    I almost listened to the outrage and skipped The Last of Us Part II. Don’t skip it. It may be one of the best stories I’ve ever experienced in video gaming. This game is a masterpiece of storytelling.

    an Absolutely amazing journey of revenge with gripping characters. Characters I have never seen be portrayed in video games before. The world, the mechanics, UI and cinematics were all smooth and beautiful. This game deserves more recognition as it is a masterpiece. 10/10

    Don't leave this game in the shelf just because people are aggresively advocating against this game. It just proves the game succeded in its mission of creating large emotional reactions in players.

    I feel like people that have not actually experienced grief or loss in their lifes hate this game for giving that emotion to them for the firdt time

    Bought the game without seeing any trailers or anything, all based on the first game.

    While I consider myself open minded and can go down with almost anything; at the end of the game I found myself a worst person than I was at the beginning.

    The craftsmanship of the game is beyond spectacular but the story is senseless over the top drama found on womens books.

    Incredible story, interesting and engaging characters, made me jump out of my seat soooo many times. Honestly if you get to the end of the game and still dislike the game? You need to examine what your problem with female characters is, I've played 100s of male led games and didn't bat an eyelid. Get a grip like.

    Gameplay is awesome, the story and characters are amazing, just like Part 1 you wont forget this story, and its certainly still on my mind. But 9/10 because I just like heroic/saved the day/happily ever after type of endings in a game and while that is kind of the ending, its not the feeling I had at the end.

    So far the game has been amazing it's very clear the majority of reviews are people trying to bomb the score to hurt sales . Especially people who are claiming to have beaten a 30 hour game less that 2 hours after its release and hasn't even been on the market for 15 hours yet . So far the game has been amazing and I will not spoil the rest . It is a journey you must experience for yourself.

    Like the first part Naughty Dog just squeezes everything out of the hardware of the Ps4. The graphics in this game are amazing and I have never seen so smoothe animations. I just think, that the game is very well programmed and that is not a standard anymore.
    Now to the story which seems to be the thing most people have a problem with:
    It is a simple revenge story, or so it seems from the beginning, but after Abby kills Joel you just really feel the sadness and the anger of Ellie, or so did I at least. And isn't that what a game should do? I caught myself often through the story crying, which I normally never do in games. This game just gave a rollercoaster of emotions. Also after arriving in Seattle I had a constant fear for Dinas life. ND showed me, that not every main character is protected because of his or her role in the story. And when you switch to Abby it just makes sense to explain her pain and her motivation why she killed Joel. And as the story goes on, it gets more complicated on the way. You go from a simple revenge story to a complex fight, about if all this violence is even necessary and that Ellie is basically blind because of the hate she feels for Abby and her friends. But then Ellies feelings turn as she kills Mel and her unborn child.
    The only thing I would criticize is that I really didn't enjoy playing Abby in the fight against Ellie. I mean I really get her after playing her for a long time in the game, but still I will always be on Ellies site, so I really didn't wanted to fight her.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Summary: Not a bad game, but not that amazing either I found that it was basically just a copy of Tomb Raider but with more annoying characters.

    I thought the graphics were amazing, and the sound was also excellent.

    The big let downs here were the writing, combat system and searching for gear.

    Searching for gear was a huge pain in the arse. Loot isn't obvious and the button to collect only appears within 1m or so of the gear. So you end up having to walk up and down along every set of cupboards in every room of every shop to make sure that nothing as well. You occasionally come across strange items that you can pick up and examine, but they don't do anything else.

    In terms of gameplay I just found the weapon system way too clunky. You'd try to go into stealth mode, but instead changed weapons, or try and do a quick heal but get stuck there. it also seemed to me that when an enemies bullet hit you, you recovered a lot more slowly than the enemy did.

    Finally just on the script, whilst it definitely seemed it was written as SJW bingo, the bigger failure is just making all the characters unlikeable. The only characters who were vaguely likeable (Joel and Tommy) are either killed off early on or get very little screen time.
    I can understand what they were doing with the Abby backstory part of the game, but she just comes across as such a revengeful, angry character that I just wanted her part to end.    … Expand

    2. Details. Story's and graphics'. Characters of the game passed very big hard way, and game shows you all of it. All the flashbacks Ellie see, other's people points of view. It's all amazing. Beautiful and amazing. Graphics details are interesting too. Like the wire that collides and interacts with walls and glass. Snow footprints and many other examples.
    3. The way game influence on you. Plot twists, screamers. You understand why Ellie do all of this stuff, because you want to do the same thing. That is Last of Us II.
    4. Fight. You feel every punch, every shot, every mistake. You feel the weight of weapon, you feel the strength of character. Boss battles make you scream in horror. You can't really feel it if you didn't play the game.
    5. Guitar. Well come on. It is the best part of the game.
    Cons:
    1. Minor characters. I didn't like Dina and Jessie. The way how Dogs do characters' storytelling makes you punch the screen.
    2. Abby. She sucks, I want to kill her. I want to humiliate her and destroy the motherf***er. 3. Dina's nose.
    4. The ending. Just look at it.

This is ridiculous, why players. have to play some brand new characters (abby) that are completely out of the first part gameplay and suddenly joel died for a very silly reason, and then tommy then jess. the last ending just **** suck's. Control Abby to kill Ellie? excuse me? I don't even want to play section of abby. There is really no feeling for abby . ending just a **** mess btw.

    Phenomenal acting and storytelling. Beautiful and impactful visuals, sound and atmosphere. Incredible gameplay and fun factor. Only thing missing is multiplayer. Naughty Dog does it again.

    Pros: Technically it's a masterpiece. Sound, graphics are all amazing. What you'd expect from naughty dog.

    Cons :
    - They kill off a beloved character from the first game
    - People who like this game now think that main character who was killed is now a monster and evil, even though they built a good relationship with them and loved them in the first game. Like WTF?! - It seems whoever dislikes the game is now getting critisised by SJWs
    - It's manipulative
    - The game is heavily political and panders to stereotypes
    - The game is totally depressing

    I've now stopped playing the game. Its not fun and is really down. I played Persona 5 afterwards and it made me laugh within 5 minutes, which is what I want from a game. Stay away from tlou2, I wish I did and I wish I hadn't had spent my money on this.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I felt compelled to write a review. I’ve never written one before. Last of us 2 is beautiful. The level design is compelling and the character models are fluid and amazing. Maybe the best I’ve ever seen. The music is so well done. I loved every moment from the subtle build in the background to the audio queues that indicated different things. The game is stunning. I know a lot of people are angry and yelling. Unfortunately, that’s what gets attention. So when many say they are dissatisfied and disappointed in the story development it’s glossed over by the raving mad men. But if we’re being honest, the attention to detail is so stunning, that the creators decided to just hurt anyone who cared about the characters from the original game. To me it felt very “subvert expectations.” The train wreck that was GOT final season as an example. My issues with the game was that it actually was painful to play. Like I tried to “care” about abby and the whole sudden friendship with lev and yara. But I couldn’t care less. And in LOU 1 I cared more about the guy and his little brother that you only spend an hour of gameplay with. So it’s not that they don’t know how to write compelling characters, I feel they just wanted us to be conflicted. As soon as I took over the game as abby, I lost all interest in the game. For one, she was obviously not a murderous unsympathetic person. After all, look what she does for lev and yara. But you’re telling us that she will brutalize a man in front of his “daughter” basically. On top of that, we find out she knows exactly why he killed her father. She saw even them conflicted about killing Ellie for a “cure.” She obviously knew they didn’t even ask Joel, or Ellie if killing her was fine. The fact that she is shown at the beginning as a heartless killer of one of the most beloved characters is a completely acceptable story telling mechanic. But you then ask the gamer to play more than half their time as this person, like they would care at all. Did anyone care for cercei in GOT? You even force them to cat and mouse against Ellie. I litterally remember thinking If I just fail here, can that be the “good end.” All this to just say that the reason I felt that way was because the story was bad. It felt like you didn’t care about us. Just like we didn’t care about abby. The saddest part I think i saw was Druckmann just said “it’s just a video game” in response to some troll comments. But honestly that is kinda how it felt the game was made. Here’s something to think about though. A video game, movie, tv show, or any form of art can transcend a person. You likely can recall amazing journeys you’ve been on because of “just a video game.” So the fact that it felt like the whole game was a brutal journey, with literally no outcome of any kind, just sucked. We know that Druckmann knew what the audience wanted. With the last memory Ellie has of Joel. Where she says she will try to move forward and forgive him. I feel bad for anyone who loved Joel and Ellie for years after the first. Because they were done dirty with nothing of substance when it was all over. When Ellie loses her fingers and then Dina and can’t play guitar anymore, I truly thought to myself “so the creators just want you to feel like absolute trash by the end of this.” I loved the depth from the first one. The ability to feel connected to a character. I never had this in this one. The fact that we ultimately learn Ellie and joel were on good terms when he died and that she already knew the truth about the “cure” still didn’t make the story of her savagery at the end compelling.     The game does not deserve such fate. Covid which led to delay, spoilers leak and so on...
    And then, right after release, after MINUTES, the game got bombed with zeroes on metacritic... It is ridicilous. Really. You just red short review of the book and now think that you red and understand the whole book? LOL
    BTW, the game is monumental. And the plot is one of the pros (not cons).
    You really think that Druckmann ruined the franchise? Why? Because Abby led by the person holding the controller killed Joel? Wooo, Joel, how can he be wrong, he saved Ellie. And he was main protagonist of the first game. Yeah, that right. But Druckman did that risky step - he left player (Abby) to kill joel and then see why that happened. And... She got strong motivation to do that.
    Now let's talk 'bout SJW and lesbians... I live in pretty homophobic country (Russia), but it does not make me homophobic. It was a bit cringy when player finds out Lev's secret (it should be introduced different way), but Ellie's love to girls is not surprizing - for me it was all well explained in left behind DLC. So, now lets criticize every piece of art with lesbian love included - woohoo, Mulholland Dr. is a complete trash.
    I am really tired of writing all this already, so it looks like after few more lines i'll get exhausted. But f**k it, i'll continue.
    The hole game is about empathy, forgiveness and cycle of violence. The game just lets you see the consequences of your actions (those actions are yours as well - you played as Joel in the first game).
    When cricizing some parts of the plot (and especially ending), it looks like you guys lost CRITICAL parts of the story. And also - it is still new for players that some parts are not explained verbally - it's all about emotions, facial animations and even "acting by eyes". It is new for the industry since there are no games which are done on such hight level in terms of animation.
    That's the reason why in some Nolan's movies some characters are only needed to expose the story. And BTW, some people still find Nolan's movies sophisiticated.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a big fan of The Last of Us. The story, the atmosphere, the character. I love everything inside. But the sequel, wha to say... it’s a disgrace to the previous fan.

    Lets talk about the gameplay first. Compare to the first one, it definitely improved much better. You can tell the difference if you played the first game. The stealth was not much improved but when in combat, the fight was intense. The gun customizations are satisfying to watch. The AI was much smarter (I guess?) and harder. You have to play smart to overcome it. The movement control was still little hard to control.

    For graphics details, naughty dog just been naughty dog. The graphics was very details to hard to ignore. Everything you see can be used for background. Now, the main point - Story. The reason why I was in love the Last of Us is not only the gameplay, also the story. At first, I was not really interested in the game. But when I get my hands on the copy., the story telling, the settings and characters are convincing me why this game won the game of the year.

    So when I heard the sequel comes out, I pre ordered the game and thought this will be another masterpiece. It was until I heard the leaks. At first I was thinking they aren’t even true or just a part of it. So I decided to ignore them and have to experience the game myself.

    When I get the game and played for 2 hours, I... I really... what the f? Who wrote this stuff? Someone who was high on drug or getting drunk? Let me get this right, Joel was supposed to be a veteran survivors, so does his brother Tommy. They all are well-experienced and they are always on high alert, especially strangers. So you telling they told their names to nobody and followed a group of them into small room without suspicious. And they introduced themselves causally. Really? If you telling me the ways they acted like that because they were relaxing peaceful days for too long or getting old age. I can say it to you, what the **** It’s like they are totally different person from the first one.

    The second, new characters Abby. I have no objection of introducing another playable characters. But this character was totally unlovable. You telling I have to play this character to know why she killed Joel and fight back the main character Ellie!???? Why!? Why in the hell you have to play as the one you wanted to kill. And main characters lost to her? I just dont get it. Why tho?

    Third, I have to clear it for myself. I don’t deny any facts of LGBT inside the game. But the way they present it are way uncomfortable than real life. I literally have to skip those cutscenes or pause the game.

    Fourth, this is a revenge story right? You played as Ellie. You killed every last of your enemy allias and you let your revenge target go away????????? What the **** It’s like John Wick killed every single one of his enemy and let go the only one who killed his dog? What the ****?

    Fifth, the only thing I cant really stand for. Ending, after Elie gave up her revenge and go back to Jackson. All of her people she cared were gone and left. Leaving only her alone and barely to play the guitar, nowhere to go or dont know what to do anymore. This is even worse than Joel ending.


    Overall, the gameplay, the graphics, the voice act, the cutscenes, all ruined by a bad story telling. I have no idea what the hell is the writer thinking about. If I was to compare some of the movies or series, It’s like watching one of the anime I watched, Kemono Friends S2. **** plot.    … Expand

However, looking at this game from a different point of view shows just how amazing it is. Certain elements of the story like Joel's death can ruin some people run if they don't see past it and understand why it happened. I think the point of the game is just that, to move on from the past, and to forgive. In one of the last scenes of the game Ellie says she doesn't think she can forgive Joel but she can try. In the end I feel she does this by forgiving Abby, or at the very least letting her go. This game has a very sound story and is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I just wish other people saw it as I do. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.… Expand

I found myself rooting on ellie to kill abby even wile I played as abby but you slowly get to understand she's just a human too and a good character. By the end of the game I was yelling at my screen at ellie to not kill her that ellies better than that because we know abby been through some **** too. abby shared a lot of similarities to joel and thats what made it harder for me to want to kill her at the end. I do wish we spent more time with joel and less time with abby but I guess that's what the first games for… Expand

    The game is great, only as a game. But this is a story-oriented game and the story was a mess. Very lacking in logic. Characters in the game is too deliberately whitewashed, too much "political correctness" and too much personal preference of Neil is involved in this game. Furious after I finished playing it.

    It's like a futuristic western, and everything about it, is just amazing, this game is definitely a brand new classic.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
