I’m not sure I understand the train of thought of the people who created the game is. But killing off a beloved character by a new character that no ones cares a about and then forcing us to play as this character and not giving us the option to enact revenge is baffling. These companies my not care about the story or it’s characters but we the fans do, and that’s what they don’t understand. It’s all just money for them Expand

First I like to talk about its gameplay, The gameplay of this game is extremely good, it is aesthetically pleasing to eyes the sound quality is great and the visual looks good, the stealth mechanic and all the other aspect of this game regards to gameplay mechanics is simple one of the best.
but when it comes to story this game is nothing but a blunder and because of this I am rating this game a 0/10 because a game like last of us in which it feels and looks like a tv series or a movie, Story is all that matters and if the story sucks then the whole game is just trash.
now where should I begin there are so many flaws i like to talk about but I want to keep this review as short as possible
First I'd like to talk about Joey, the main character of Last of us part 1 In which he was portrayed one of the intelligent character but in last of us 2 What The Hell happened it became a duffer of some kind and a character as great as his dies just like that? thats not acceptable. now coming to the revenge part of this game, After joey death Ellie wants to take revenge on every single person who was responsible for Joey death, so what she does? she goes on a hunt kills everyone who was witness to joey death and were responsible, she even kills a pregnant lady but when it comes to abby the main culprit behind Joey death she chooses to forgive and let go because revenge is bad?
I mean what? did I miss something? all that buildup only to push a cliche narrative(revenge is bad) that does not even make sense in this scenario since she has already killed a ton of people even a pregnant lady at this point. this is Dog******* story design.
Now I'd like to address the politics this game has how it looks like just a SJW propaganda, when you add too much content based on gender identity and sexuality in a game thats when you ****** up because games and comics are a way to escape from real word problems and to relax, so when you start adding gender politics in games and comics thats when you will face extreme backlash because nobody gonna like these things in comics and games especially when it is against their narrative and you start shoving it down to their throats. It was a post apocalyptic world, there was no need to add such things you could cut these things and the story would have been better and maybe just maybe you wouldn't receive a backlash and a permanent stain to your franchise. I don't know why you felt the need to add these in the first place? was it to please the LGBT community or to piss off the gaming community and laugh at their faces?
If it was to please LGBT community then it sad to say you've done a pretty bad job because this game is getting a backlash even from people who identify as gay or lesbian.
and if it was to piss off the gaming community then i'd say you've done a fantastic job because you sure as hell pissed us gamer and it never ends well I mean just look at the score we gamers have given.

I'm still wondering how ND dropped the ball this hard.
Don't get me wrong, the graphics are excellent for a PS4 game and the controls are not bad.
However, in a story game, the story counts and it's very bad.
The new characters are bland and uninspiring, massive plotholes and the old characters have no good development.

How are you going to kill Joel in the first two hours and force you to play as Abby? No one gives a F about her and never will. Ok, so I will start off by saying I did NOT spend MY money to play this game, my cousin bought it and we spent a weekend and knocked it out, so this does affect my overall thoughta. I'm going to start with the pros- The game is gorgeous, and the physics are amazing. Pretty much the only pros. Cons- the story is very lacking, and the killing off the main character from the first game has a whole bunch of issues around it. While they use a guise of a revenge plot that carries through the whole game, as someone who played last of us a week before release to get refreshed, the problems with the way it was approached become very apparent. Ignoring all the agenda pushing comments, as that value is different for everyone, mymain problem is Joel is killed much too early, and the character he is replaced with is so new to the point where it makes me WANT to dislike her. I would definitely reccomend playing the game, but do so if you do not have to pay for it, or it is on an extreme sale. 60 dollars for a good looking, but awful story is not worth it. Pick it up for 20 bucks or less down the road and save your money for the new consoles and games that come out that will be infinitely much better this winter!!!!! Expand

Any story line would be a better one. I don’t know what writer thought. Neil, for his own purpose, has destroyed what Bruce and the others created before. He should quit and banned as a writer for games because he is a poison for this area. And he should stop using a lot of things as his shield. Strongly not recommended. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't believe the response to this game from users. This game is absolutely amazing. It seems like everyone who hates this game wanted the Joel and Ellie story again. If that's the case, then just stick to the first game. Why should Naughty Dog tell the same story again? Naughty Dog forewarned that this story would be about the vicious cycle of revenge and they definitely delivered on that promise. If you can get over Joel's death, which is brutal and heartbreaking, you can appreciate the depth and pain of the story Naughty Dog tells through Ellie and Abby. No one can tell me that some of the backlash isn't because Abby is masculine. I've seen plenty of transphobic videos of INCEL men moaning about this. I researched her character, Naughty Dog claims she isn't transgendered but even if she is, who cares? Does that make her pain any less important than anyone else's? The beauty of writing is that writers can MAKE YOU FEEL a certain way. The only reason why everyone was so heartbroken over Joel is because the writers made us feel that way with their brilliant storytelling from the first Last of Us. But we didn't see the other perspectives. We didn't see the carnage and pain Joel caused with his actions. Stop and think about it for a second. Yes, he loved Ellie. He bonded with her after he thought he had lost his ability to bond with anyone. And so he made the decision FOR HIMSELF to save her. It wasn't for Ellie it was for himself. And he sacrified what was probably best for the world to do it. Both Ellie and Abby lost their fathers and avenged them. They have quite a bit in common as characters. But people don't want to see that because Joel and Ellie achieved pedastal status from the first Last of Us game. It was hard to watch Joel die. I cried like many gamers probably did. But, to believe that only Joel's pain only Joel's feelings matter, is a very narrow way of looking at things. Had the first Last of Us focused on Abby's story, we would sympathize more with her. When I had to play as her for the second half of the game, I was genuinely curious what led her to carry out her murder of Joel towards the beginning of the game. I really started liking her when she teamed up with Lev and his sister. She cared deeply for that boy and put her life on the line for him. What The Last of Us 2 does so well is showcase how the pursuit of vengeance and revenge is never-ending and soul-destroying. Look at what happened to Ellie. She had a chance to move on happily at the Farm House with Dina and JJ. She had a chance to heal. And she chose to leave her family and pursue revenge that in the end she couldn't even carry out. A lot of people also criticize the ending as pathetic because she couldn't carry out her revenge. Again, people miss the point. Sometimes what we fantasize about in our minds can't be realized when that moment comes. She sees Joel's face and has a moment of realization finally that killing Abby won't bring Joel back but it would destroy her. So she stops. She finally stops pursuing this poisonous vengeance mission. She sits in the ocean and lets the grieving tears flow. She begins to heal. She has to lose basically everything to find herself again. I didn't like the ending in the sense that Ellie chose vengeance over the love of her life and her kid but that's a painfully true fact. When you let revenge take over, it consumes everything good in your life. For that reason I think the story is brilliantly told. I thought Dina's character was written absolutely perfectly. She supports Ellie in her first attempt to get back at these people because she loves her and understands her pain. She's a badass ride or die girl and she does more than enough to help. Then, she gets sick from the pregnancy and almost dies at the hands of Abby. Then, at the Farm House, she defends Ellie from Tommy's stupid warpath. He hasn't learned that enough is enough. Dina tries to convince Ellie to let it go and enjoy the good in her life. Embrace the family they have and stay. Ellie breaks her heart and Dina decides to leave. She's gone when Ellie returns because she wasn't going to let Ellie's lust for revenge tear her down too. Absolutely brilliantly written. I think Naughty Dog does a great job of developing Abby. It took several hours of play for me to begin to empathize with her. Do I side with Ellie or Abby at the end? Honestly, more so with Abby because Abby had let it go. Abby decided to place her focus on Lev and taking care of him. Even in her malnourished and weakened state, she fought for him at the end. Whereas Ellie turned her back on what should've been the most important people to her. Aside from the story, the graphics are breathtaking. It feels like you're participating in a movie at times. I just started a New Game+ and I know I'll play this many times over because I'm sure there's more to notice that I missed. Great game, Naughty Dog. The haters are definitely lacking deep thought. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In 2020, there is so much going on. I just want to enjoy a good game, but instead, TLOU 2 gave me a nightmare.
This is a great disappointment. I am a big fan of Naughty Dog studio since Uncharted 1,2,3 & 4 as well as Last of us. The whole development team from Last of us part 2 seems don't understand the core success of the first game. It's not about gameplay, its about the characters and story. In part 2, they decided to throw them all away; characters are disposable for the sake of the story. If Naughty Dog is so confident about their game, why didn't they promote Abby in the first place and let us know that we will be controlling Ellie and Abby in this game? The answer is simple; they know the reason why we bought this game, coz we wanna see more interaction between Joel and Ellie. So they decided to give us a fake trailer and lure us into buying this piece of garbage. I know Joel will die, but the way you treat him is unacceptable. And still, try so hard to make Abby likable and sympathy her. AGAIN, I don't care about her. No matter how hard ND tries, I still won't like Abby. Even you gave her better weapons, better gameplay. Sorry, I just can't relate to her or what so ever.
The beauties of the first game are characters driven the story, but in part 2 is story-driven characters, which led to unreasonable action for different characters, such as Joel, Ellie, and Tommy. Naughty Dog, please stop finding excuses for yourself. We, gamers, do not care about your PC stuff. If you can get us a good story, none of that matters. I hope ND can learn from this mistake and bring us more good games in the future. I still have hope for you, please don't let me down.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is not what was promised and it is an offense to his legacy. First, the most beloved character (joel) from the previous installment is killed in a treacherous and pathetic way and the worst thing is that they expect you to love the murderer (Abi) despite her actions.
He feels forced what is political, always trying to spit it in your face, we have paid a game to have fun, not to educate us.
The level design is boring, repetitive and confusing, many times it happens that you do not know where to go because it is not well designed, you cannot explore as freely as promised and it is boring because of how poorly designed they are many times, besides that later it happens that places are repeated (How can a place where criminal trials are made compared to a restaurant?).
The story feels stuffy, it has no rhythm and when you think it is going to get interesting, cinematic from a flashback.
The enemies are pathetic, they do not show intelligence, their patterns are all the same and repetitive and it becomes boring because just pressing two buttons is enough to kill them.
The music is poorly implemented, it is not supposed to be because you must listen to the enemies (which are scarce) and the game becomes monotonous and boring.
    And the end....
I give a zero for the lack of respect that the creators had to the original game

(I tried posting this after I beat it on June 23, but I always got an error message, so I don't know if it posted.)

This is an honest review after having actually beaten the game unlike most user reviews.

The original Last of Us isn't my favorite game of all time, but it's definitely in the top 15 or so. While playing through Part II, I often asked myself which game I liked more. Even now, it's still hard to decide.

That's because, as someone who managed to avoid all leaks and spoilers before playing the sequel, I loved my time with both games. Part II in particular was so gripping that I was glued to my controller almost nonstop and often kept playing until at least 5am. If I wasn't playing, I thought about playing and wanted to know what would happen next.

Most reviews start with graphics and sound; but while they're both phenomenal, I'll start with what is for most people the most important part of the game: the gameplay. Most of what you do in this game involves combat, exploration, scavenging, crafting, and environmental puzzle solving. All of these elements work well, with various little improvements over the first game such as enhanced mobility, Ellie having a permanent knife, and dodging. There were several navigation puzzles and safe combinations that were satisfying to solve, which I did without ever looking up the solutions online. The combat is visceral and dynamic on hard, which is the difficulty I recommend for a first playthrough if you've played the first one, which you should anyway for the plot.

Which brings me to the next section, which has been the most controversial. The story in the game is definitely heavy, emotional, and not told in a linear way. Those who had the plot ruined with spoilers and leaks probably judged it without context before playing, and/or it was difficult to experience it in the game without the negativity associated with the leaks. The following is probably controversial in itself, but I actually liked the plot and how it was told. Without spoiling anything, the game takes big risks rather than playing it overly safe. Its handling of Abby is something that I don't remember any other game doing like this. There were several moments in which I was genuinely shocked but interested to see how things would play out. It's refreshing for events to be so unpredictable, which is possible for those who haven't had everything spoiled.

The game overall has a nice flow. You'll find yourself in closed spaces, in open spaces, indoors, outdoors, at varying times of day, in multiple climates, and with different weather effects. You'll face combinations of human enemies of different factions and infected enemies. There are happy, sad, calm, and tense moments. The shifts in environments, enemies, emotion, combat, exploration, and puzzle solving keep things mostly fresh.

As I mentioned before, the graphics and sound are amazing. I probably took over a hundred screenshots of the game while playing. I often found myself amazed by the lighting, animations, and environmental design. I often stopped to take in the details of every living space more than I normally do in games. I read every note and thought about the characters who lived and died there. One complaint here is that the camera tends to automatically move in camera mode; but otherwise it has a ton of features including filters and various sliders.

Altogether, the various elements of this game come together to create an emotional but amazing experience. I've started a second playthrough and look forward to a third game in the series. There are a few nitpicks here and there; but to dismiss the rest of the game just because of one or two plot points is, in my opinion, unjustified.

    Pros:
    • Breathtaking graphics and animations
    • High-quality sound effects and voices
    • Tense, dynamic combat
    • Tons of optional exploration with resources and lore to find
    • Satisfying puzzles that aren't too difficult
    • Memorable characters
    • Emotional moments
    • Great level design
    • An Encounters mode that lets you jump into combat from the main menu
    • Tons of accessibility and other options
    • Full voice acting for Spanish, French, and Portuguese
    • Usually quick load times after dying
    • The Chapters menu option shows how many of each collectible you found
    • Unlockable 3D models with hair physics

    Cons:
    • No cutscene viewer
    • Glitchy cutscenes that seem to be skippy or show an in-game view for at least a frame or two
    • The camera sometimes moves on its own in camera mode
    • There could've been a few more unlockables, such as outfits, a horde or challenge mode, and/or an in-game soundtrack

Final score: 9.8 (rounded up to 10 here)

Joel grows soft as survivor, he never would have fallen to that trap, in the first game he runs over a guy without a second thought. Jackson was so rich and nicely designed just to never be seen again. Would have traded Abby's playtime for playing through Ellie's "raging about the true" and bounding with other people like Dina. Hated the political correct checklist. And Owen's voice is as blank as a white wall. Expand

The Last Of Us Part II Review
    By Marcos Aquino

If the death of Joel drives you off playing the game, you are not seeing the whole picture.

For the sake of this review I will focus on the Story part, as is the part of the game more polarized, the rest (graphics, sound, game play) is also so **** awesome.

Here are my 2 cents on this…

For me Neil Druckmann is for videogames what Vince Gilligan is for tv series (or movies I loved El Camino), masters of narrative, and that may not be fair, as The Last Of Us Part II may become a precedent on how to deliver a story in any medium.

The world portrayed in both parts of The Last of Us, is a violent one, instead of building a world together to face the Cordycep infection, a devastated mankind turned against each other, a regime based on fear by the Military, scarcity of food, fear, paved the path for the emergence of many factions, including the Fireflies, that opposed the “de facto” government of the Military (at this point the remnants of the USA government).

Joel learned to thrive in this environment, he became a thug, smuggling, killing, that was his trade, and Tommy’s to before he left for Jackson. This antihero, who lost his daughter (Sara) to the military, enters in the journey of delivering Ellie across the country, we all know and love this journey, but the end is particularly important in order to grasp the extent of the story and why the death of Joel was not uncalled for, but rather intrinsic to the story that is being told to us.

At the end of part 1, Joel takes the selfish decision of killing everyone in the Saint Mary Hospital to save Ellie, to whom he loves as a daughter (or at least at a later moment, but at that point he is very attached to her). The state of the person that Joel was at that point, driven with fact that he was still coping with the death of Sara (20 years or so later) gave little room of choice to Joel, in Part 2 he confesses Ellie that he would do it again. Was this a good choice?? Did those doctors deserved to die?.

In this never ending circle of violence that the world of The Last of US portrays, each violent action has a consequence, we only saw one side of the coin in Part 1, and what the writers did here was showing that violence, however justified it may be, will only lead to more violence, more suffering, that is what justifies Ellie’s decision in the beach at the very end of Part II, this it what she realises at the very moment she sees flash of Joel playing guitar in the porch appeared in here mind (also a very important moment to understand the scope of what Joel did at the end of Part 1).

The course of Abby’s life was forever altered at the moment Joel killed her father (the doctor at the end of part 1 named Jerry Anderson) her mission in life became at that moment, a quest for vengeance, her father, Dr. Anderson is portrayed in the few instances we get to see him, as a caring person, who was always trying to help everyone (including a zebra). Can her quest of vengeance really be unjustified?

After that, she shaped her life (and body) for the sole purpose of avenging her fathers death. She couldn’t let go, she couldn’t forget, a new loop in the circle of violence that Joel started and ended with his death (Joel knew that time could come, he tells here “say whatever speech you have rehearsed” showing also no remorse). Killing Joel in the presence of Ellie and leaving her alive, created yet another quest for vengeance, couldn’t we agree that the same justification for Ellie to kill Abby, Abby had for killing Joel?

And for me, this is why The Last of Us works so well, it shows that those terrible actions, for more justifiable that they seem, will only create a ripple effect, that sooner rather than later will catch on with you. Abby’s side of the story is crucial for understanding this, and why the whole plot of The Last of Us did not revolved around Joel being a beloved character or hero to some (he was absolutely not that) but extend of all the actions surrounding Ellie’s journey and their effect.

At the end, Ellie chose to break that circle. Imagine if she had drowned Abby, she would have had to kill Lev, who basically saved her and Dina, asking Abby to stand back in the Theater back in Seattle. Otherwise a new loop in the circle of violence would have been created, now Lev seeking vengeance for the death of Abby and so forth.

People should play this game with fresh eyes, there is a great story, delivered with an outstanding narrative and a positive message. One of my favorite games of all time!

I DONOT understand why Abby kill Joel so early.
-> Since Joel dead early of the story, I CANNOT focus on Abby. However, you want to focus and understand Abby. And Joel is the main character of previous series. However, Abby who whole new character killed Joel with golf club. And Joel's dead was NOT a noble and was NOT sacrifice for Ellie. You think this is make sense??

    2.
I DONOT understand why Ellie DIDN'T KILL Abby.
And why Ellie recalled Joel who play the guitar when she almost killed Abby?
-> If you want to express emptiness and meaningless of revenge, you MUST express after killing Abby first.
If you intend the relation between Abby and Lev to be similar Joel and Ellie's relationship, and if this is why Ellie didn't kill Abby, this game is JUST PIECE OF NUCLEAR WASTE. Relationship between Abby and Lev is NOT parents and children and this relation EVEN NOT a lover.

    3.
Abby got somebody but Ellie lost everyone.
-> Abby killed Joel and lost friends, but she got Lev.
However, Ellie lost father, friend, lover. And she lost fingers to play the guitar which only left connection to Joel.

Ellie DIDN'T revenge but lost more than Abby who did revenge and whole new character. KEKW

    Conclusion :
Neil Druckmann stuck in his own thoughts. So he didn't think about completeness of the game and deceive previous series players.
Considering graphic team and actors, I give 1/10, not 0

God, what a downgrade. They completely destroyed the first game-killed off Joel, who was the main reason besides Ellie that made the original so great-his character arc and how he softens up to Ellie. And then you just kill him in the first two hours and then try and make us feel sorry for the person who kills him.

    No.

If I ever get my hands on a PS4 / PS5, I will play the original, and act like this game does not exist / or is not canon. This is not a sequel to The Last of Us. It just isn't. Naughty Dog needs to stop ignoring the fans and admit they made a terrible sequel. Gameplay and visuals can be as amazing as you want them to be but the story is what drives The Last of Us. It's a generic third person zombie shooter game if you take the story out of it. If you ruin the story, it ruins the game.

    Do not buy this.

Animations look very smooth and it is satisfying to watch the brutal take downs. The visuals in this game are absolutely beautiful and some of the best graphics on the PS4.

However, these get overshadowed by the game's story. This game's story and characters are very poor. I simply did not care for many of the main characters in this game. The new characters that were introduced are uninteresting and characters brought back from the last game don't act like themselves. This game's story is far from perfect, with an intro that will leave a bad taste in your mouth for the rest of the game and an unsatisfying ending. During my playthrough I thought I was near the end of the game and I was ready for it to end only to find out I was just half way through the game. The halfway point of the game is what made me really lose interest, and I imagine many other people feel the same way.

The game isn't the worst game ever made by any means, and i don't think it deserves a score of 0/10, but it's poor story and characters doesn't make it a masterpiece that deserves a 10/10. The game has fun combat and stealth mechanics along with stunning visuals, but a game that is very plot-driven needs to have a good plot. If you decide to buy this game I recommend playing for the gameplay and not the story.

Loved the first game immensely and I haven't played a game in a long time that was so ambitious with it's narrative, so what if it made me uncomfortable in parts, that's good and it's doing what was intended. I liked that it wasn't trying to be the first game and was attempting to be its own thing. Joel's death wasn't dignified but why does it have to be? Death rarely is and it felt more believable this way. Game of Thrones tore my heart out several times with character deaths and I still loved it.

I agree that the story was a little clunky in parts and yes there were a few plot holes and they could have pushed Abby's character further in getting me to invest more emotionally in her but I was still drawn to her side more as Ellie's. Ellie just seemed dumb to continue but she's stunted emotionally and it makes sense for her flawed character to keep making the same mistakes/decisions. Also good to see female leads that aren't over sexualised or playing the 'damsel in distress'.

This game was daring and progressive in a world that asks for that but rarely appreciates it when it gets it.

While Joel did act to save someone he loved, he also doomed the human species to a continuing apocalypse, and the brutal consequences of that decision are rendered with exceeding credibility in this daring masterpiece.

While many will never be able to forgive Abby for the actions she takes, this game's portrayal of her and the rest of it's characters as nothing more or less than human is worthy of respect.

Story 2/10 The worst part of this whole game. The writers think their writing is so clever. But the story is soo shallow. By the end of the game I didn't care if all the characters die. The final fight with Abby is just rubbish. The writers are trying to say this is deep and meaningful. It is just not. Characters are all really boring. Ellie is just a angry boring character. No depth. She throws little hissy fits through out the game. There are flash backs with Joel which don't land at all......because Joel is dead. It takes out all the character bonding. Joel was a idiot in this game. Wasn't anything like the first game. I'm not upset that Joel died, but how they did it. Enemies were boring. Nothing really new. The game just drags and drags on. As before the music made by Gustavo Santoalalla is just emotional and fits perfectly. Enemies are smart, well not as smart as on E3 in 2018 but a really good one. There is no multiplayer in the launch of the game but they say it will be there soon. Ofcourse the bigger problem is the story. More specificly the way it is delivered. I do not see a problem with the decisions and the story how it was made. Bigger problem is how it was written. It almost seems like a huge pile of mess laying on each other. Just as everyone I am not a big fan playing as the second main character (we all know what she has done) but I must say that it was much more cinematic and funnier experience then playing as Ellie(because playing as Ellie you play in bigger environments). The problem is that they want to make us sympathize us with this character but they do a **** work with that. Also I do not see a problem with the characters and the way they were written. Just the way the game presents them and the way how the developers wants you to see them. Like for instance the charachter that looks exactly the same way like directer Neil Druckmann looks like. This character is the way how I imagine a person that when you would saw them you would burn them to crisps if you would have the chance but the developers for some reason wants you to see him in a good light. Why? I do not know. No one knows. And the same goes for a lot of characters. The last thing is the ending and oh my god I have never seen so long ending since the RDR2 but you know what is the difference? In RDR2 the ending is 4 times longer but is much more satisfying than this. Over all I do not think this game deserves this reviews. Is this the same Niel that did part 1? Because there was a lot of wasted potential on this game.
-The trailers were also very misleading.
-Ellie was robbed of half of her game.
-Ellie's story is just straight up depressing. Don't play it if your not mentally prepared.
-Don't get me started on Joel.
I'm a huge fan of Part 1 and this was such a let down.
    Don't waste your money.

I just finished the scene with Abby and Joel. I don't think I've ever reviewed a game before but I had to make an account to specifically to say that I hate Abby sooooooo much!!!! Naughty Dog is going to go down in history for creating the most hated character in existence. I'm done with this game and am going to try to get a refund. WORST. GAME. EVER.

Can I get an f for Joel?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review hurts to make as I believe the first game is a masterpiece and one of the best games of all time. This game, however, is not that. This game's story is an insult to the first game and fans of the first game.

Before I delve into that though there are some notable positives. The graphics are nothing short of incredible for PS4. I ran it on Base PS4 and the game is one of the best looking games on the system. It wouldn't look amiss on PC. The settings and accessibility options as well are nothing short of industry-leading. Even PC games could learn a thing or two from the options menu in this game. I also enjoyed the more open world section in Seattle and the story early on, excluding that particular scene. There are some very nice moments that I won't spoil.

However, the main negative is the story, especially the second half. Playing as Abby for 10 hours is not fun. She is not a character that is relatable or in any way good. This section of the story only serves to make the player hate her even more. The Sex Scene is one of the worst things in any game ever. I have no problem with sex in video games. Witcher 3 and Mass Effect did it well. But here it goes on too long, is too explicit and just looks really awkward and unsettling. This is made worse by the context of the situation. That Owen is cheating on his pregnant girlfriend and Abby is knowingly continuing. The story is also very convoluted at times with flashbacks within flashbacks and too much unnecessary fluff for characters that are extremely unlikeable and lack any redeeming qualities. The ending is also extremely unsatisfying and just left me feeling like the whole game was pointless, this is made worse by the fact the first game ended with a satisfying conclusion and so a second game never needed to exist.

The story has ruined the series for me and I will not play part 3 if it ever launches.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I was just playing the game for the sake of completing it with no emotional connect to the story . I was made to play as a character that I didn’t like. Then they try to inject scenes and dialogue to make you sympathize with said character. None of that works. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never posted a review on any game I have ever played but The Last of Us Part 2 deserves a review. The first game goes down as one of the best if not the best game I have ever played. Part 2, I wish I never purchased. If it were a free game, I’d probably never play it... I went into the game completely blind and did not look at one spoiler, the only thing I knew about Tlou2 was the trailer that was presented at I believe E3 back in 2018. I feel so lied to about this game. Neil Druckmann on record saying you will NOT be playing as any other character other than Ellie was a flat out lie. The trailers showing different character models in different scenes, is just the beginning. I have zero issue with Joel dying, it’s how they went about his death... if he had died later on, or if had survived and lived a happy life after, it wouldn’t have made me feel the way I did. After playing the first game, I felt a connection to Joel and Ellie, as if I knew them in real life, sounds dumb but it’s how I felt after playing the first game. Then forcing me to play as the person who killed Joel for more than half the game, I personally believe most people probably feel or felt the same way. Neil Druckmann you are a liar and a crook! I also want to state I have no issues with the gender politics that are in the game, if someone is gay or trans,so be it, I get it, it’s 2020, but forcing an agenda is what I have issues with. I can list another 20 things that made absolutely zero sense, but I’ll just list a few. - Joel and Tommy giving their names and location to a random group of strangers and inviting them to their camp to restock... come on... we know that wouldn’t happen... that’s a total cop out and a cheap way to introduce characters and plots into the game. - Adding awkward sex scenes into the game... really no need for that... - If you’re going to add 15 cheap hours of gameplay as Abby, at least go into more details as to why the Wolves were formed, rather than them just wanting revenge, give us more info on Isaac, his death was another cop out... to build this guy up as some mastermind, to then have him die so quickly with no real story on Isaac... - The ending gives you zero satisfaction, where was Tommy? Ellie decided to go search for Abby because of Tommy and you leave him completely out? Come on...

Again I can go on and on, but I’ll leave it at that!

This game gets a BIG FAT ZERO!

    ZERO OUT OF TEN!

    0/10

Thanks @Neil_Druckmann for robbing me of $60! You’re a class act!

I can presume it will be Ellie getting her revenge most likely. Also, Killing off the main character in a dishonorable way is beyond me. You can see that there are many positives reviews from credible studios giving the game a 10/10 or 95 rating. This is completely alarming and shows the gaming industry’s agenda. This game is clearly not a 10/10. You can spend $60 better somewhere else. Expand

Everything is unmitigatedly gore-y and grim-dark, and unrelentingly miserable and awful- Bright spots only exist to highlight the misery to follow/precede them. There is nothing good about the story of this game. Everyone loses, always, but mostly the player who is forced into the role of absolutely insane people. These protagonists constantly ruin everything for everyone and themselves. I wish this was an exaggeration. There is no hope to be found anywhere. The notion that something can only be "artistically mature" if it's unending constant misery, has plagued the entertainment industry for half a decade now, and i very much hope this was the culmination.
Some people have said that the game at the very least can not be a total 0 rating, because of it's great accessibility, sound and environment design, and mostly workable gameplay.
This however is a very linear, very "cInEmAtiC" game, so all these things exclusively serve to support the story. And no matter how great the accessibility, physics, texture, smell and haptic feedback simulation of a program is, if the program exclusively simulates excrement, it is still trash.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
