I own a PS2, 3 and 4, I got to play a bit of the original TLOU in PS3, then lost it, years later, the remastered version was free for PS+ users, so I bought it, and I loved it, the game got me truly enthusiastic for the sequel.
Then I saw the leaks back in April, and my absolute hype for the game, turned into absolute hate.
I didn't and I still don't care if Abby is a mutilated 41%-ass individual, or if Ellie likes to scissor with women whose actresses got their boobs nerfed, what enraged me is how dirty they did Joel, a character that everyone fell in love with in the previous game.
Some time later, I kinda got over it, but I still wasn't going to play it, and when people got the game early VIA pre-order, I got even more goddamn enraged.
They torture the main characters like the absolute worst villains in history, Tommy gets divorced, one-eyed and limping, mad about the fact that Ellie promised him to kill that woman and now is hesitating about it, Ellie herself hallucinates about Joel's dead body and with how she couldn't save him, which inspires her to finish the job and fight Abby on an even fight where both of them are emaciated as hell and she DOESN'T KILL HER BECAUSE OF A FLASHBACK OF JOEL PLAYING THE GUITAR (Which absolutely contradicts what she said about Joel killing Abby if Ellie was the one killed and not him), then the game ends with Dina making a meme out of herself and taking the kids, and Ellie making a failed attempt to play the guitar with three fingers on her left hand, she's alone, she did Tommy dirty by having the chance of finishing the job, and HESITATING about it, and she made a complete fool out of herself by killing a bunch of people trying to find Abby and NOT finishing off the person you killed so much to find, ending the game with an unsatisfying climax, tbh it would have been slightly less bad if Abby just finished Ellie in the theater.
Good job, Neil, you got what you wanted, a game that literally no mentally stable person likes, and you are getting what you deserve because of it, I hope mocaping that scene with your self insert banging Abby was worth it.
I'm giving it a 2 only because of the REALLY slightly improved gameplay, and I'm being really forgiving with it.

Worst sequel possible! Can't believe that after such a delightful first game, the second couldn't honor it properly, not even close. This game is so disappointing and bad that it upsets me to the core. The story doesn't make sense at all and it's horse site. 2/10 because it has good graphics.

Made an account just to express how frustrated after playing this game. The system doesn't evolve a lot; the storytelling is way worse than the previous game; the characters are unlikable, especially the change of Allie's attitude toward Abby (although I already guessed what she would do, based on the pattern of how the story is written). Generally a disappointment. I don't know why itMade an account just to express how frustrated after playing this game. I don't know why it received such praises from most of the media, but I do know that IGN Japan, Game Revolution and GAMINGbible are some of the most honest ones among them all.

Also, Sony/naughty dog is freaking racist and double standard. The writer has tons of ways to express that Ellie is not into Jesse, but they chose that race joke. They added so many political correctness thingies, pretending that they care but they do NOT. Deep down they are still a bunch of racists and always trying to pick on a race with the lowest risk. That joke wouldn’t be there if Jesse was black or gay.

As for the story, it's just bad. I believe 'The Last of Us' is about Joel and Ellie. It's clear Neil and Naughty Dog pushed both of them aside to make room for all these new characters, but at the end of the day it just doesn't tie in well nor do we get the same character development for the new characters as we did for Joel and Ellie in the first game. You're simply not going to feel the same attachment for any of these people the same way you did for Joel and Ellie.

Gameplay: It's The Last of Us 1 but you can jump, dodge attacks (time is slowed down when an enemy initiates an attack so it pretty much forces you to dodge before you can counter), and go prone. This gameplay design was already outdated when the first game came out back in 2013 as other games have simply done it better, and now it's even worse to the point where you get bored
    while playing the game.

It's incredibly disappointing to say the least.

I can babble on about how much I hate this game, but i don't have the energy to do so after playing that mess.

If you really want to know what happens, watch the cut-scenes on youtube. Triple AAA games nowadays are not worth $60 and this is one you should only pick up when it's on sale for $20.

The first Last of Us has a very special place in my heart and is my favorite game of all time. After completing this I feel heartbroken. It did not do the original game justice and did an injustice to the intelligence of Ellie and Joel. I ask that whoever reads this does not waste money on this game. My first game review ever.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is of two parts for me.
The first is the graphics and overall gameplay which are amazing, the scenery adds to the overall bleakness of the settings perfectly, the character models are done with an attention to detail missing in most games, the overall gameplay loop gets slightly repetitive nearer the end but generally is enjoyable.
Unfortunately what lets this game down, and is seriously disappointing to say having waited years for a follow up, is the story (the main reason I play games), ignoring the controversy before launch, the story is dull, its all about how killing is bad and violence begets violence. I understand this is an important lesson but should have been a backing note behind an immersive story following characters I genuinely care about. Instead new bland unlikable (probably because the story is so terribly written) characters are introduced and favourites are killed off early (badly done, purely for shock value) removing one of the most enjoyable aspects of the first game. The characters have barely developed and in some cases have regressed. To sum up the story is badly written, badly paced, with very little care or attention given to the aspects of the first game which made it so popular.
I've rated this game so harshly because for me the story makes the game, and the disregard given to this games story is painful. The game is a shadow of the first, all of the darkness but with none of the light to balance it out.
p.s. the Game Directors multiple different cameos just stink of a massive ego and its distracting from the game. Neil Druckmann is no Stan Lee, Quentin Tarantino or Hideo Kojima so stay out of the game.
p.s.s the trailers for the game have scenes created for the specific purpose to lie to the gamer, showing the gamer what they wanted and then changing them in the actual game.

Absolute unconcern from developers to musicians and music itself. Maybe a cover song stealing was ok in their opinion, but one character puts a guitar out of a case, plays it and leaves it on open air with complete indifference, that guitar will turn unplayable. Maybe musicians should join some right-demanding movements to make some rich boys to value them too?

The only good thing about this game is the gameplay and graphics. The level of detail that has gone into this is brilliant, at times I thought I was looking at real humans. The world of the last of us is great, but in a story driven franchise, when it’s not up to par, it will drag everything down with it. The ending of this game will leave you feeling angry and upset, there is nothing satisfying about it and nothing gets cleared up. It appears Naughty Dog have tried to do something different with this game, but it doesn’t work and it’s a mess. It feels like a big political statement and a message about revenge is bad being shoved in our faces.

In my honest opinion I had to set the difficulty to very easy after the first couple of hours into this game just to get through it, it wasn’t a good experience at all. We was told by Neil Druckmann himself that the Last of Us is about Joel and Ellie, this game isn’t. I bought it as I had to play it as I consider the first game the best I’ve ever played. However, after this I will not be purchasing anything Naughty Dog put out in the future. Save yourself £60 and don’t buy it.

For one of the last games to be released on PS4 before its end it takes full advantage of all the capabilities provided to give a fair quality to the graphics and landscapes of the game. The forest scenes, and vibrant landscapes of nature and city ruin give fans a feel of deep immersion in a realistic possibility of the future. Combat was exactly what fans of the serious have come to expect with small instances of similar glitches happening in place in different environments, smashing an infected head into a wall to only then smash air with the blood splatter as well as body of the infected being slightly below the implied area. Weapons crafting and perks were rewarding and if a player was tactical enough to gather resources as they went granted a scaling factor that made the player feel a late game strength as oppose to an early game weakness. All these factors above I believe granted this game its 2 points shown above. However, where the game seems to fail and seems to be the main focus of issue with major fans is the fact that the story seems to be inconsistent with the thought processes of our characters and instead a story the went on a heavy tangent of what fans were expecting. User game play is divided into uncomfortable segments that abruptly stops that storytelling momentum but instead forces fans to wait and engage with a completely different moment with little commit and or care. Fans may at times struggle to even empathize and engage with the story and have moments in which the question their own intentions of continuing. All-in-all, the Last of Us Part II strikes as more of a platform in today's media to connect and question as oppose to a self-fulfilling universe existing in fantasy and awe. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I saw the first trailer, I was amazed about the things the game could offer me. I decided to give it a try, I played the first one and I felt empathy with Joel and Ellie. They were trying to survive the desolation, destruction and bleak landscapes and cities. Joel was a pesimistic character and Ellie was a strong girl with attitude, Both characters were meant to each other, to support each other in order to survive and find a meaning to their journey, enduring hard choice and taking risks, and they made it but a what cost. So I wanted to see them again, to see what is the future this game prepared for them, together. BUT WHY THE F#:$'@ did you kill Joel on the very 2 hours of the game and forced me to play with a Shi#@y stupid character that killed him in front of Ellie. OH WOW SHOCK VALUE, AM I RIGHT GUYS? It works 1000% of the time. How this time could possibly fail? Well Neil, let me tell you... I played the game to play with Ellie and Joel, not with characters that belongs to a teenager telltale game with dull story and non-existent character development. You tried so hard to push a **** propaganda. I support diverstity, I'm gay but something I learn is that I don't have to shove to the face my beliefs or ideas, I need to educate, to make people aware, to show them that is normal to encounter people with different ways of thinking and living. But you instead pushed a really ankward relationship and a lot of unnecesary tension between Ellie and Dina. What make it worse is the driving plot of "I Will avenge Joel but at the very last minute I will show that killing is bad because that will make me a better person".... Dear god, if I only had trusted those leaks. You know what? I will request a refund. There is no replay value or fun, or even a decent story... Its just a shallow shadow sorrounded by darkness. Sorry for my large review but man, I really feel cheated and sad because I know for things like this, another TLOUS is not going to happen... ever. Only thing I liked, the graphics. For the bombers: Be honest with your scores please, the game deserves at least a point or two for the graphics, music and sounds.

The controls are from what I heard not up to par as they are basically the same as the first Last of Us, with minor improvements (like a jump function) so average at best.

You took choice out of the player's hands and forced them down the rails of the story YOU wanted to tell and the story is total excrement. The game could have possibly been salvaged if you allowed players choices in how the game unfolded, made it possible to have multiple different endings based on choices the players made. If you were not going to do this then you needed to make sure the story was something that everyone would like. Deaths of main characters need to have meaning, showing mercy to others needs to have a logical reason behind it, violence needs to have reasons for it other than just for the shock value. Characters must remain true to their personalities/intelligence established in the previous game. In short you messed up the story on every conceivable level, and you should be called on it!

For people leaving the 10/10 ratings, you are either not being intellectually honest or you have not played the first game. Don't give this game a 10 just because....no game is perfect and sorry but this one doesn't come close! Also, no, I am not a bigot, before you make that assumption...I loved the first Life is Strange in which the protagonist who was either bisexual or lesbian. That game had a good story and great music in which there was 2 possible endings. For me, even though graphics/controls wise it is very dated now, was an infinitely better experience to play than this game was to even watch being played.

Season 8 of GOT was the most beautiful looking show that received the highest tv viewers for the last 6 episodes. Guess what, nobody talks about GOT anymore because the writing was inconsistent and bad. That is what will happen to TLOU2 due to bad writing. Graphics were great, but the game falls through if you want to kill a character in this game that you have to play for half the game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Look. I’m heavily disappointed in the gaming community right now. This game is not a 0/10. It’s not even close. The problem with the people who are saying this game is a 0/10 is that that’s not even possible. Let’s say, hypothetically, the story is complete garbage, 0/10. Fine. But what about the rest of the game? What about the rest of a AAA Naughty Dog game. With more gameplay features than the first game. Better graphics than the first game. And just overall a better game not taking in story. Then, maybe it’s a 5/10. So there’s my complaint. On to the story, I think it was fairly good. The main think being that it is not a sequel to The Last of Us. It is not The Last of Us 2, but a further part of The Last of Us, or The Last of Us Part II. And I think that’s where many people go wrong when they complain about the story elements. When this game starts up, within the first two hours, we are given the death of a main character. One who we have come to love over the past seven years. But this is not the problem with the story. When you take a look back at the contents of the first game, without context from Part II, you may think this was a poor choice. And it was definitely unfavorable.
But it was part of the story. You have to instead look at the context of Part II. Joel literally destroyed all known possibility of a cure for THE zombie apocalypse. It was completely selfish, and the irony of the situation is that he doesn’t even get to reap the benefits of what he did. That’s the gut punch. That’s the great part of the story. The fact that Ellie resents him. When Ellie begins her journey to take revenge against Abby, she is riddled with constant flashbacks and trigger moments where all she sees is Joel in pain. What happens throughout the rest of the game up to the ending is incredibly important, but irrelevant to the current topic. This changes at the very end of the game when Ellie has her final “flashback”. This time, Joel is sitting on a porch playing the guitar. He looks happy. The shows that Ellie has come to peace with Joel despite not killing Abby. This directly feeds into the 15+ hours of gameplay in between the start and finish of the game. A lot of “fans” found the gameplay unfavorable because they did not wish to play as Joel’s killer. But have you thought about the fact that the entire first half of this game, you are playing as someone who murdered multiple people in response to one death? This should not only give an effect on the character of Ellie, and it does, but it should also effect the audience. Unfortunately, no one gave it enough of a chance to let the story take hold of them in the right way. This game is not a fan service. It is not a sequel. It is a part 1.5. A part 2. And a part 3. It adds so much story that wasn’t told in the firs place, which needed to be told. while also telling the important journey that Ellie went through to get to the epilogue where she had a change of mind. She in no way forgave Abby. She simply realized that she was at peace and no longer needed to harm her. The ending is devastating to the audience because it is also devastating to Ellie and I hope I’m not the only one who realizes that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an extremely bad game. While the graphics are top notch and the gameplay is smooth, the story is complete garbage. Joel, the main protagonist from the first game, is brutally murdered by Abby. Most of the characters from the first game act contrary from how they were in the first game. You are forced to play as Abby in a petty revenge story even after brutally murdering him. Ellie kills most of the group that hunted down and killed Joel. In the end, Ellie, after losing everything lets Abby go. This is so ridiculous. The story is one of the worst I've ever encountered in a video game. The marketing was also manipulated so that players thought that Joel was still alive and would play a bigger role in the game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Man where do I begin? This game is so far the most deepest story-driven game I have ever played. I guess one of the things that pulls players out from this game is that the makers of the Last of Us 2 made the game too human. I'd like to emphasize that, TOO HUMAN. Like humanity, as insignificant in the universe, the game's message was delivered to me (personally) that the characters in this game, dying in the most meaningless of ways, can always happen at any moment. The game is so fleshed out so close to human psyche that I myself have find it difficult to see through the game in the mood they set it in. It was difficult to see the game that has the aspects of a human and psychology, and without the normal cliches of a game like invincible heroes, black and white decision making, the boobs, and beautifully symmetrical designed characters. This game taps into the deepest core of human emotions and feelings that not all gamers can grasp, and that the game was for me, not an entertainment, but was a message that we all can relate to; whether it is in present time, or in an actual apocalypse.

Also, my guess as to why some people hate it so much is that it betrays the norms of games and how we see games as we are accustomed to. There are no heroes in this game, and the characters, while being in a linear game, was not constructed to be warriors of morality and justice, but was built as a human, trying to survive. Characters trying to keep finding for something to fight for. I know not all gamers will agree with me, and will probably hate me for this, but I do believe those who have hated the game has either not received the true meaning of the game, or did receive it, but just wont accept it, or they are blatantly nitpicking just to spite the game.

Like an empty wallet, a hungry stomach, and a broken heart. this game teaches a great lesson about love, hate, guilt and forgiveness. This game is a masterpiece. I wouldn't say it any other way. 10 out of 10 in my book.

The writing, the camera work, the characters, the scenarios, the art, EVERYTHING is an absolute 10/10. It took 7 years but it delivered. You can see why people would be kinda mad at it but, I'm my honest opinion, in order to hate this game, (more exactly, the story) you either thought this would be a sea of roses and didn't have your mind truly open to new experiences or simply refused yourself to embrace the great writing, going with the flow of the hate.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge fan of the first game, I was excited, and even giddy when I heard there was going to be a sequel. I avoided all the leaks, and went into the game wanting to love it. What I got was a slap in the face to myself, and any other fans of the first game. Though the graphics are easily the best I think I’ve ever seen on the PS4, and the gameplay was improved, and very fun, it unfortunately does not make up for a horrible story. Naughty Dog betrays it’s fans by completely changing the characters in ridiculous ways, flooding the narrative with propaganda, leaving an insane amount of plot holes, and (quite literally once you play the game) spitting on the corpse of the best thing about the story. Naughty Dog has made an objectively horrible game, but since the game is loaded with forced, in-your-face diversity, ND just blows off honest criticism as “trolls” or “homophobes.”

Imagine if in the first 15 min of Spider-man 2, the daughter of some thug that Spider-man put in jail shows up, brutally kills Peter Parker, then the whole rest of the movie follows that kid as the protagonist, as she hunts down Mary Jane to kill her to. And then when people complain, they’re called bigots for some outlandish reason. THAT’S the Last of Us part 2

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The enemy encounters in TLoU2 are tense, brutal, and challenging. The atmospheric music and intelligent enemy AI made me squirm in my seat as I snuck around the environment. I rarely got mad when I died. Instead, I looked forward to approaching the scenario differently. When I had to fight, I enjoyed the combat; however, combat was sufficiently messy and resource-depleting to incentivize a stealthy approach.

The story is excellent. I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll just say that this game knows how to make you feel the way it wants you to feel. The score, environment, cinematography, and script work in tandem to give the main characters compelling emotional lives. However, some have criticized the lack of choice in certain key moments of the game. Indeed, their were several moments where I had to accomplish a goal of the main character that I really didn't want to go through with. While challenging and fun, on an emotional level these moments were almost painful. But I think that was the point. At the end of TLoU1, Joel didn't give Ellie a choice. So Ellie doesn't give us a choice. She alienates the player as she loses what she loves. Like everyone else in the game, we are powerless to stop Ellie. We can only watch the tragedy unfold and hope she finds the strength to forgive.

I hated this game the agenda that it pushes on us the bad writing. I loved the first game and straight up felt betrayed by naughty dog

This game spends a solid 10 hours making choices for you and forcing you towards certain actions.they also wasted 10 hrs on the game making you play as a character that to most fans is irrelevant, annoying, obscure and honestly not very relatable since we haven’t met them in the previous game, they just cropped up now. No story driven game made me this frustrated

This game is **** vile. We went from extremely good pacing, amazingly well written characters- to suddenly punishing those characters for decisions they made in the first game, just absolutely **** unnecessary. TLOU was the greatest game in the last decade for me. This **** actually hurts

A winding and generally exciting story, with well written characters. I'd say the journey is better than the somewhat anti-climatic payoff though. Some long story sequences and very slow flashback/"fun" sections also make repeat plays a bit of a slog. Expand

This game is horrible. It's not really anything I haven't already seen before. Comparing it to the original TLOU, this one feels bland. Don't get me wrong the visuals look stunning. but the story is awful and kills off most of what made the original TLOU so captivating. Bad gameplay, bad story...just...overall bad.

Disgusting plot, disgusting agenda, average gameplay and great graphics and attention to detail.
Ordinary employees did their work at 5+ points, which can not be said about their main screenwriter. He literally stuffs his vision into your throat. His sexist vision, I really did not expect this in the 21st century. Without spoilers, unfortunately, the plot cannot be described in more

You will be amazed at what is happening, amazed in a negative way.

Gameplaywise it's okay but not as good as first game. Lack of multiplayer and really badly written story make this one an awful game.

Absolutely horrible game. Complete fall from grace with the plot line the original had. I felt complete apathy after finishing the game and admit it you will too. The ending and Joel’s logic for trusting complete strangers makes no sense. Save your money and spend it on a game and company that deserves it. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
