Totally disappointed. Was hoping to get another brilliant story with Ellie as main character but instead had to play as this Abby/trap villain without being able to skip her/its chapters or get back to Ellie. The game contains many disgusting moments and what the studio did to some of most beloved characters from Part 1 is inexcusable. 0/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story is just lazy, this whole revenge plot is a decent idea, but the way they did it only pisses the players off. Why have a revenge plot to teach the player that revenge is not good after killing dozens of people to finally achieve your one goal, to kill the main villain! Yes, Abby is the villain, she's a psychopath that willingly smashed a person's skull after a person lying on the ground helplessly begs her to stop. The game tries to show the players her perspective but fails to have the connection that Joel and Ellie have. They spent a whole game on Ellie and Joel's relationship and expecting the player to have the same feeling towards the person that literally ends that is such poor and bad writing. This game can NOT be enjoyed when the story makes you cringe so hard, it's hard to focus and survive when you are playing Abby. Thoughts that come up are just letting the game kill her. This revenge plot could've been an interesting one, if Joel maybe died in a better way, and actually focusing on Abby as the villain. We kill her and realize that revenge isn't the best way to cope with someone's loss. Instead, we just got a blue balling ending which made the whole player base pissed. 0/10, can't even focus on combat without thinking of killing my self. Expand

This is a pretty good game, incredibly detailed and gorgeous, and improves upon it's predecessor in some ways, but is overall an inferior game. The first Last of Us is one of my favorite games of all times.

Story and writing are sharp. It does push some politics but not in the dramatic, goose-egg way that some people are claiming. However, I was very disappointed with the ending. It does not wrap up the journey in my opinion. A better ending would have bumped it up 1-2 points.

Combat and gameplay mechanics are improved, but again suffer from some drawbacks. Unique set pieces are much less frequent in this game, and it suffers from that rinse-and-repeat feel of a lot of open-world games. The first game was much tighter and linear. This game really opens up the world and it works at times, but it makes the game feel less unique and very mundane throughout a lot of it. I found myself exhausted and sneaking around, dispatching enemies, and scavenging, and because the story isn't as strong, and the characters not as engaging, it makes it that much harder to trudge through repetitive gameplay, however detailed and intense it may be (and they combat is very intense!). The first game was the perfect hybrid between open and linear and it worked. If I wanted an open world game and repetitive gameplay, I'll go play Assassin's Creed. I'm here for something more unique.

They added jumping and it "works" but that's about all it does: works. There is a lot of it and it doesn't feel great. A minor complaint, but when jumping is a crucial element to the gameplay and you are either jumping, squeezing, or sliding to progress through each section of the game, it should "feel" fun. Not like I'm fighting gravity or my character just ate a large pizza and is feeling lethargic. The same goes with the new "get knocked onto your back when you get shot" mechanic. It was exciting the first few times, but it happens WAY TOO OFTEN, and gets annoying quick, as every enemy seems to be an expert marksman, even when realistically, you get the drop on them (and I played on the moderate difficulty -- normal). The combat suffers from balance issues in this regard. The first game was too easy even on grounded (I could charge most enemies with a break and punch them to death), so I see why they tried to improve that, but it needs some tweaking.

Again, overall, a pretty good game. Some minor gameplay tweaks and even a slightly improved ending could upgrade this to a "great" game. It's a shame too, given how much detail and effort was put into this game. I appreciate all the hard work that Naughty Dog put into the game. That's why it's really too bad that the people in charge of the story couldn't wrap it up in a more compelling way. The first game was a masterpiece. This game has potential. But Naughty Dog missed the mark.

First things first: The game looks, sounds and plays amazingly. I stopped a few times and thought to myself " I can't belive they made a game that looks this good". Environments are stunning, but the thing that stood out most immediately to me, were the INSANELY well done facial animations and body animations. Second to NONE right now.

Story and writing: Blew me away what they did for the medium. Won't spoil anything, but playing trough the, lenghty, campaign it grabbed me like a great HBO series has. GoT season 1, Chernobyl. Great writing IMO. Better than, the already good, first game by a long mile.
Gameplay was good, maybe not amazing, but plenty good for a game where the narative is the focus.

I can't reccommend this game enough, but please: set the mood before playing it. Headphones, no screaming friends around, no distractions. Take the time, make the commitment to get through it. Accept that the game wants to provoke feelings from the player. I hope you like it, but even if you don't I hope you at least try it.
I have deducted 1 star, since the company allegedly has some rather problematic issues concerning overworking the staff. This needs to change in the industry.

In terms of story the Naughty Dog was capable to kill one of the most important characters to gaming community, that shows how courageous naughty dog is, and the fact that most of the users critiquice the game only for killing that character shows how selfish the users are, and how our present society cant deal with death and cant see the both sides of the story , even threatening to death the voice actor of Abby and her child's.

For the actual review, this is one of the best games i have ever played, along with its predecessor. The studio behind this series doesn't disappoint as this one is just as majestic as the original and a true sequel to the first game. The brilliant story telling, beautiful visuals and enhanced gameplay dynamics which allow for more exploration and a more open world feel during battles is very enjoyable. The brilliant performance from the actors playing the characters that is displayed in the cut scenes brings each character to life. I felt a mix of emotions going through the different character arcs, such an experience i have never felt in any other game as it is a roller coaster ride. The story follows up from the previous plot but also revisits some scenarios from the previous game to explain what happened in between which explains the story perfectly and this answered all my lingering questions after i finished the first game.

The world of LOU is visually beautiful and you can see the amount of effort that went into the game. The story kept me on the edge of the seat all the time. The game also explores various social/political issues and introduces a good mix of diversity which blends in with the story perfectly. It also does a great job at depicting how society crumbles in a post apocalyptic scenario and how war between different factions/races with differing values leads to unnecessary series of killing and violence.

I want to revisit and finish this game at least a couple more times as it is so entertaining.

It's Naughty Dog's series and they told the story they wanted to, it just isn't anything like the story I wanted apart from one flashback stage. Ultimately, in telling their story they forgot that games have to be fun, and when the story gets in the way of that like this does, that is how a 10/10 masterpiece ends up with a bad rating.

    Spoilers follow.

Joel's decision, which I thought was ambiguous in the first game, has been retroactively condemned and deemed "the wrong thing to do." Nonsense, if anything his actions were absolutely correct even if he hated Ellie.

The characters are shallow, cardboard cutouts and the game is preachy. The advertisements were outright misleading, to the point that people should be able to demand a refund. Abby is a horrible character, and one you are forced to spare after being forced to play her and watch her ruin everything for the characters you actually enjoy.

Gone are the clunky mechanics and occasional glitches of Part 1, and the new upgrade and skill trees are much more fun to play with. Combat is exciting and gory; where you land your shot depends on how the enemy will suffer and it made fighting seem like real combat.

Whilst the story was the opposite of what I expected I loved it. After the intro it became clear what was going to happen and what this game aimed to deal with, and the parallels in the second half of the game worked really well. It was great to see a story that dealt with consequence, grief and loss.

So i think this game is getting much hate for no reason other than childish petulance of the people who feel the game should have been how they wanted it and not the way the story went.

Now to the game, the game itself is is very good, the story is fluent and pulls on the heart strings a few times, it gives you the sense of how both Abby and Ellie feel during a revenge battle and after thoughts and I feel it moves well enough into the new story, although a few more missions at the start about Joel and Ellie after we left them would have been better. The game graphics are very good and the visualisation of the game is great as it gives the sense of apocalyptic scenery. The game play itself was immersive depending on how you choose to play, whether stealth or shooting, but harder levels will deffinately require you too play more stealth, in some respects it could have changed up the style of play sometimes but overall was good enough to give goosebumps when surrounded by enemies in dark places.

The game wasn't perfect and it could have done a few things better but over all the game play was smooth, scenery great and story was perfectly fine for me and what I expected of the game regardless of the spoilers. It certainly doesn't deserve such a low user score and too many peopl are influecned by others. 8 out of 10 i think is the best score for this game and it doesn't deserve the hate it hs gotten. I have completed the game got most of the trophies and i'll be going back for another Game + on a harder difficulty to finish off the rest of the trophies and find every angle of this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Definitely one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in campaign-oriented games! So much work has been dedicated to this game -in every aspect of it- by the developers, fact that makes me question the validity of all those review bombers giving it a 0/10, 1/10 etc. So in case you are willing to study the reviews before buying the game, just ignore the unreasonably low ones (this also applies to the unjustifiably high ones). I’m gonna review the most discussed features of the game separately below:

    • Graphics/ environment & character designs/ details: I give it an undeniable 10/10. Perhaps the most advanced game we’ve ever given in the current-generation era of PlayStation. • Gameplay/ Mechanics: well, are not given any robust differences in the way of playing compared to the first tlou. We surely have an extended variety of collectibles and artifacts that help us dig into the events and lifestyle of a post-apocalyptic world, which is quite interesting. Levelling up the difficulty made the gameplay much more challenging and strategic to me. Stealth system works better than the one of the first game. Unlocking skills and upgrading weapons made the experience much more tense and fun for me. However, when playing as Abby i was a bit bored at some parts and also when approaching the ending of the game, the gameplay felt a bit repetitive. I’m gonna give it a 9/10. • Story: well this is the part where most of the ‘fans’ go crazy, saying it’s a complete trash. I respect the fact that each and every one of the players approaches differently the story, that’s why it’s so interesting. I personally loved it. I loved the fact that naughty dog didn’t hesitate to snob the fanservice and instead gave us their point of view, delivering their vision exactly as they imagined it. After all, it is a post-apocalyptic world, don’t expect everything to be good and optimistic. Joel’s death (even though it was brutal and made me feel empty) was totally understandable since it served as the ‘backbone’ of the part 2’s existence. The journey that is followed by Ellie to reach her target -i.e. Abby- leads to decisions and scenarios generated by the protagonist that feel wrong in general (for instance, the brutal killing of Nora and the unnecessary death of pregnant Mel) and made me think it was worth it to avenge Joel by killing everyone except his killer. When it comes to playing as Abby (god this is maybe the most critical point of discussion and main reason for gamers to hate the game), the feelings are kinda mixed with the wider percentage of us (the gamers) feeling awkward and unwilling to play as her. However, the developers have offered a wider range of capabilities -for instance, different skills, weapons, crafts, artifacts etc.- that propel you to an interesting and enjoyable gameplay with very cool sequences (rat king encounter and scar island escape). In the end, I felt sympathy towards Abby. This is me talking subjectively. Many people may say that they ended up still hating her. Totally respectable. But I liked her character the more I played the game and the more I was processing her backstory. Abby and Ellie are two different sides of the same coin in my opinion. They both seek vengeance for their father figures, they both end up losing people they care about and finally, they both realise the mistakes they have committed. There were 2 main parts that captured my attention and made me understand how deep this game was. First one is that the unstoppable persuasion of revenge costed Ellie (By losing 2 fingers) the only strong connection to Joel which is her ability to play the guitar and thus remember him. The second is that in the last scene with Joel and Ellie. To be exact, she tells him that she isn’t sure if she can forgive him for ‘abstracting’ the meaning of her life/immunity. Then she tells him she could try to forgive him, then Joel says he’d like that. At that moment, she says okay to him in the exact same way she did in the ending of the first game. The guitar theme playing in the background is also the same as the one in the first game. Same music, same people, same word. ‘Okay’. However this time, Ellie says okay to the truth whereas in the first games ending, she said okay to the lie. The concept of the game aims to promote honesty and forgiveness, not hatred and vengeance. That’s what the majority of haters fails to understand. Story and concept gets a 10/10 for me. Finally, to however may play the game, I suggest you to experience it from an objective point of view and with an open mind as well!

Gameplay, graphics, sound, and story are among the finest gaming experience I've ever had. While the story is certainly decisive amongst fans, the characters are complex and layered, and their morally grey decisions feel true to the world they're living in. It's not the story I think a lot of us would have written for a Part II, but by the end I realized it's the story I wanted. A character driven narrative where the motivations don't feel like they're just there to move the plot along, but rather are real decisions being made by real people who have experienced real loss, and they're slowly coming to terms with the real consequences of their actions.

The Last Of Us was already my favorite game of all time, a game I avoided for the longest time because of the worn-out zombie apocalyptic setting, but by the end I realized was one of the realest stories I'd ever experienced. Part II just solidified it's place as some of the best story telling I've ever experienced in any medium.

Namely, there is a transgendered character in the game, and although the game's narrative handles this with grace, there was an online campaign against the game due to supposed "social justice warrior" themes.

I went into this game having played the original, including DLC, and ranking that game among my all-time favorites. I also tempered my expectations due to the online backlash against this game's story themes, as I hate ham-fisted social commentary.

Having completed The Last of Us Part II, and thoroughly enjoying it, I can say that the online backlash is unfounded. The story is rich and nuanced, and although it could be described as long-winded being 30 hours, it delivers a bittersweet ending that begs for another sequel. Seriously, any emotionally mature human would feel for these characters, and enjoy seeing this world through their point-of-view.

The only reason I'm not giving this game a perfect 10 is out of spite for what the developers did to my beloved favorite character. I understand that the game wouldn't have been nearly what it was without that plot point, but I can't let it go. And I am also aware of the irony that the game made me care so much about an imaginary person that I am taking it out online, almost like the review bombers.

They really didn't make this game for fans of the first one, I kind of get the story they were trying to tell but, having to play as Abby for as long as you have to just to fight Ellie, I let Ellie kill Abby about 20 times just for the satisfaction I wish I was getting in the first place. Not to mention I totally blew off the first hour of Abby's storyline because I didn't think it would last as long as it did and I didn't care about her or her past, really hard to get into it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have no issues with the graphics, the graphics, sound design, environments, Ai, all are beautifully crafted and designed, my flaws lie in the story, it felt rushed, poorly paced in places and Abby one of the playable characters, I struggled to sympathise with as she seemed to be comfortable with her fulfilled revenge, going as far as to slaughter her own men towards the middle climax at the theatre. She shows no conflicting emotions about her torturing of Joel. I feel if she had been fleshed out some more and shown to be a flawed Human being, then I would be rating this differently.
I expected a even greater follow up to the masterpiece of last generation, however I was left with a feeling of hopelessness and a conflicted message. For Abby she gets revenge, a new purpose by the end of the game, and will likely have new friends in the fireflies. She also seems satisfied with most she does, even going as far as to tempt an old flame away from his Pregnant Girlfriend. For Ellie she struggles and gets destroyed me tall, physically and figurately stomped emotionally as she struggles with the morality of her choices. And is left with a bittersweet memory of what could have been.

The marketing leading up to release had built my expectations to be an Joel and Ellie centred story. And It's false advertising to me, a Joel was in the game a total of an hour and 35 mins total.

Regarding the story... the game creators have said it best: The first game is about love, the second game is about hate. The first game was sad and violent, and ugly, but it was also heart-warming and beautiful. You see the world through the eyes of a washed-off man who learns to love again.

This game is the complete opposite. It's designed to make you feel increasingly unease, to the point of regretting your own actions. You start strong and determined, only to get slowly and relentlessly invaded by doubt and quilt. At some point you might even feel that you would rather not carry on the actions that the game requires for the story to progress. In my book, that's a huge accomplishment. I feel that many of the people who criticize the choices they made on the story are missing this point.

Me... I've never seen anything remotely like this before.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. -Graphics: 10, nothing to say about the graphics, this is the best looking PS4 game.
-Gameplay: 7, a little repetitive, nothing out of the ordinary compared to the first game.
-Story: 4, this is where it gets worse. The game obviously wants you to think that revenge is bad and stuff, but you don't really UNDERSTAND the message, the game makes you feel it by throwing shocking, violent scenes that are made to disgust you. The motivation of the characters are sometimes really confusing, I don't get why Abby tortured Joel on purpose for seemingly no reason; she didn't have to do that. This is why I don't like Abby, even at the end of the game. The game wants you to hate her in the beginning, and then you have to forgive her and to see her as a "nice person". I think it's really hard to go through all of these emotions after a character TORTURED a beloved character from the first game, especially after hating her so much in the beginning. I get what they wanted to do but it's executed poorly, with a lot of (too many) plot holes to help the story.
-Sounds and OST: 9, the musics are as good as the first game, and sounds are well done.
-Characters: 3, I didn't really like all the secondary characters like Dina and Jesse, even though I felt something during Jesse's death, so that's good I guess. Lev and Yara are meh, I didn't care when Yara died, and if Lev were to die, I wouldn't care either. The worst ones are Abby's friends, mainly because I don't care about Abby's life and stuff. I just want them to die (I was even happy when Manny died), or I just don't care about them because I know they will die in the first place. And for the characters in the first game, I really don't think they are the same. Joel death in particular, was just really stupid. I get that after 4 years being at Jackson, he became more human, but I didn't see that before he gets killed. Flashbacks where he is actually nice come AFTER he died. Again, poorly executed.
-Pacing: 3, I really didn't like playing as Abby. I actually didn't want to play as her, I just did it to see the ending and what happened in the theater. Also, Ellie's first day in Seattle is boring. I would've preferred to play as Abby 10 hours before Joel's death, because after she kills Joel what's even the point to make me appreciate her? I just didn't want to play as someone that killed someone I like, especially in a dumb situation like that.
All of this makes an overral score of 6, which is in my opinion a fair score. I don't why you would put a perfect score if you played the first game, but I also don't get why you would score a 0 because Joel dies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm on my 2nd playthrough and to be honest, I would've rated this much lower if I had only played it once. I really didn't like Abby's part or any of the characters in her story (except Yara and Lev). I can write an entire essay about why Abby's crew is such a stereotypical group (especially Owen) but the point is the disconnect and general displeasure came from them. I like Abby a little better after she's spent some time with Lev but Seattle Day 1-3 with Abby was just not fun for me. It felt like TLOU had these amazingly written morally gray characters then in TLOU2 we get.... Abby's crew. I loved that Joel, Tommy, and pretty much most of the characters in TLOU knew they were morally gray, even Marlene who wanted to save the world. But then we get these Salt Lake City crew who thinks they are always the good guys, and that going across the country to torture one guy is justice, not simple revnege.

Again, the 2nd part, I really didnt enjoy. A pity too because if I didnt play it again, I would've forgotten just how amazing and emotionally inpacting the first part is. The final fight didnt make much sense to me either. Ellie spent months to track and kill Abby and when she's there, only then did she get her "peace"? I dont buy it. It feels like part 2 was made for the sole reason of "surprising the players".

The worst part for me is the false advertisement. They advertised this as an Ellie centric game. It was not. It felt like Naughty Dog lied to me and I hated it.

Hopefully you enjoy this game more than I did. I wont be buying the next one.

Liked most parts of the game, even understood that the death of a specific important character was part of the story line. Was alright with the LGBT path as well.
However, the false advertising from the trailer as well as forcing me to play the next half of the game with a terrible character really left a bad after taste. Would have been a really great game if the developers were more

Would have been a really great game if the developers were more upfront with the advertising trailer and not try to get us to sympathize with the antagonist especially such an unlikeable one It's like when I play Spiderman, I don't want to play Dr Oct or the other villains to get how they felt. Maybe in a spin off game or DLC but not the main game.

I wasn't a fan of the original game, I thought it was a good story with a great ending but that's it. That's not at all how I feel about tlou2. t's exactly what Druckman said it was, a story of hate and what it leaves you with at the end of the day. The characters manage to be more compelling than many of the original just off of simple character motivations and what you learn from them as the story goes on, the gameplay is some the most crafty and intense survival combat you'll ever see thanks to the AI, the exploration is much more engaging and impactful thanks to the larger open areas that may have enemies you don't want to waste resources on and the simple yet efficient environmental puzzles, the twists and turns the story puts you through feel like something out of a coen brothers or a24 film (makes you wonder how those directors who commended kojima for death stranding would feel about tlou2), the game is simply just one of the best games this gen. Compared to the first game it's got much more meat to it, stronger world building thanks to the different factions, much more believable enemies that fall less into your typical game types like the molotov guys from the first, the gameplay again is just improved top to bottom and above all the game gives much more naunced perspectives. I was genuinely surprised at how much I loved this game, I don't like a lot of cinematic games and I'm not at all a naughty dog fan, I think uncharted 4 is almost as bad as 1. Really the only reason I don't give it a 10 is because I'm sure there are a few problems I missed but nothing that will fundamentally change my experience, I can't imagine a better sequel than the one we got for this game; for all the talk of people say for wanting games to take advantage of the medium it's a part of tlou2 does it to tell this pretty impactful story of 2 people wronged and deal with it in ways that are ultimately unhealthy to say the least. This is an unfortunate situation because while the game is mechanically sound, TLOU is a narrative experience, and the narrative makes this game impossible to enjoy.

А last of us 2 это не об этом. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

The Last Of Us Part II. Naughty Dog doing with AAA videogames what Christopher Nolan does with summer blockbusters. It's one of my top games from the last decade.

There’s something in the storytelling here that really can only happen in an immersive medium like a videogame. Organic character connections developed through action and cumulative small moments, and a feeling of conflicting empathies and emotions when you’re not in alignment with the character, and when the game makes you do something that you don’t want to do. You wrestle with choices in this game in a very different way than you would in a passive medium. It's a violent game, but it's also about empathy, and about breaking the cycle of violence. It's a game that asks a lot of the player, and that's so cool to see.

Just because the story isn’t what *you* wanted it to be, doesn’t make it bad. People die, stuff happens, things don’t go as planned. Not every story gets a satisfying, happy ending. Deal with it. The game is set in a bleak, post apocalyptic world, not a Disney fairy tale.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
