    Equally as good if not better than the first. This storyline was far more intricate and complex. The technical achievement of the improved graphics, the art direction of creating these beautiful places and the diverse set of characters truly makes this one of the best games of all time. A masterpiece.

    Absolutely astonishing. Naughty dog outdid itself both in the technical and narrative aspect of the game. This is one of the most beautiful game I have seen, running in a 7 year old hardware, it is still much better looking than most games introduced for the next gen or even the latest pc games using ray tracing.

    This game is a masterpiece its a well written game and the game play is amazing. I really enjoyed the story and there are twist and turns throughout the game that are great. Its an emotional roller coaster, and it very sad moments but also good ones to.     I was one of the lucky ones to avoid the leaked spoilers on youtube, and I was disgusted on how there were people out there that wanted to spoil the game for everyone. But even if I was to have seen the spoilers I still would have purchased the game and played it for myself.

    Gameplay was awesome, I loved the combat, and how you can upgrade your weapons and even ammo ect... The graphics are beautiful, I can only imagine what they can do with a sequel on the Playstation 5.

    Yes. I got annoyed playing for long stretches as Abby and wanted to get back to playing as Ellie but, overall, it made sense.
    We learn what was behind Abby's motive for seeking vengeance against Joel. Her motives were just as valid as Ellie's were for hunting down Abby.
    The story telling was very good. The game play was us to Naughty Dogs standards. The graphics were gorgeous.
    I enjoyed some of the new mechanics of game play and wish they were featured more in the story.
    We still saw Joel during the flashbacks and they were bittersweet. For anyone who's lost a loved one they were extremely touching moments.
    I saw or heard some of the spoilers before the game was released so I was prepared for somethings but I've never let spoilers spoil a game for me. Sometimes they make me look forward to it even more.

    This game is perfect in every way. It leaves you speechless, angry, sad and amazed. There’s not an happy ending, it’s a story to reflect, it is supposed to make you feel something. It’s like that movie when you don’t like the end because it’s too human and it’s not happy. I felt so many emotions, me as part of the LGBTQ+ community felt embraced and represented, I wanted to stop playingThis game is perfect in every way. It leaves you speechless, angry, sad and amazed. I felt angry when I was forced to continue pursuing Abby. But life is like this in so many ways. Right now I feeling angry because I am forced to stay at home without a job. Also really well done to talk about homophobia and put more representation in it, I think it’s the first time that I see an openly gay main character, strong and not letting pass any kind of disrespect for her being a lesbian.
    Characters were well developed, many times it felt like I was with real people playing and every time I’d go in a journey alone I actually felt alone.

    This game is a pill hard to swallow, not in a bad way, it’s just because I’d write the story differently giving a happy life in the end. I think that’s why people didn’t like, because we want to find some hope in the end and this one gave us nothing but imagination of what will happen next, and Ellie ended up alone, that really got me since her fear was to end up alone, that was so sad. So if you guys are planning a sequel either to finish the series of them trying to find a cure, and giving a happy life to Ellie so her existence has some meaning in the last of us world, bc right now all I can feel about her is sorry and she being my favourite character is like heartbreaking.

    I have to admit I didn’t wanted to play with Abby, I was reluctant and killed her many times lol but I started to like her in the end, not a big like but it just shows again how human this video game is, showing that everything has 2 sides and we can easily apply this to real life.

    This game has loads to think and process so people that are not open to accept what it brings and are projecting their own frustrations towards it will not really get it.
    Also congratulations to take the risk and put minorities in it. I saw a bunch of people get really mad about it and show their homophobic beliefs.

    I disagree with loads of stuff in this game but it doesn’t change the fact that is amazing. Will play again and please, it not a part 3, at least give us a DLC!    … Expand

    There are VERY few games that make you feel strong emotional responses to their story and gameplay, good or bad. And The Last of Us 2 is the pinnacle of the current generation of games. If you want an indepth review, there are plenty you can look up. But what i'll tell you is that those are review bombing this game due to the sexual orientation of characters and the twists.... they are out of their minds, and likely have not completed this 24 - 40 hour game. The game isn't entirely perfect, and no game truly is. However this does not detract from the absolutely stunning experience.

The Last of Us is not a happy game, and anyone expecting any different should probably find something else to play. This will truly lead you through a roller coaster of emotions.
    It's the most beautiful game I've ever seen, with stunning character design and gorgeous environment. The hair, the eyes, the voice-acting, the performance, the lightning - unlike any other game. In cutscenes, you can really feel the emotions coming from the characters, see it on their faces, hear it in their voice. The infected or the fungus on the walls will leave you disgusted, terrified. The gory mess after blowing up an enemy with a bomb will make you sort of pity them.
    The gameplay - the same mechanics as in the first game, but BETTER. You get new equipment, new skills, new weapons. The areas are always huge, sometimes I didn't even know where to go first. This, combined with the ability to crawl under things or squeeze through tight spaces will give you so many opportunities to hide, to kill enemies or to just run away. Sometimes you don't even find enemies if you don't explore certain areas. New people, new infected. Each encounter will keep you on the edge of your seat, not really knowing what to expect. The physics are very realistic.
    The story - this is a story of vengeance, how far a person will go to get it and how it can change them. It will make you see that not everything is black and white. Perhaps there is no good and bad. Perhaps not every hero is a hero and not every villain is a villain. They're just people doing what they think is right. It is hard not to say too much and spoil things. I will say that the story made me sad, happy, angry, heart-broken, scared, pissed, conflicted. It made me smile and it made me tear up. And that, I think, is a good thing, because it made me FEEL something. It made me think about what I would do in those situations. As I said, a roller coaster of emotions.
    All in all, in my opinion this game is a truly worthy sequel to the first game. Even more frightening and traumatizing. The people that give it a 0 truly don't deserve to give reviews. Naughty Dog took a bold step with this game, and it paid off. Please don't listen to other people's words - try the game for yourself with an open mind and make your own opinion.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the game twice, even at the major difficulty of SURVIVOR+, exploring every inch and finally awarding my platinum.

    Graphics: 10
    The graphics is stunning, facial animations are astonishing and can really make u feel what is going through the characters mind. Stable framerate, high quality.

    Audio and soundtrack: 9.8
    Gustavo made another piece of art with this game. The soundtrack fits perfectly within the context of the game, is never invasive and really enhances your emotions when needed.
    Also gameplay audio is really good. Environment sounds can really help you to locate enemies, see who they are and what they intend to do, essential to the gameplay.
    Sometimes though, enemy location does not fit perfectly the position of the enemies, causing you to panic if you think they are too close. It's not a big problem.

    Environment and level design: 10
    The work and craftsmanship of the developers to reconstruct a Seattle won by nature is jawdropping. Everything is exactly where it should be. It's all so green, rainy. Destruction is perfectly represented and the victory of nature over mankind is portrayed in every aspect.
    Big shout-out to the level design. Every encounter can be approached in many different ways due to the level design and our gameplay choices. Stealth is favored due to many underground or underwater passages, trucks under which you can hide and most of all it's import that you can sometimes use verticality (something which was completely absent from the first game). Many levels will completely develop vertically.

    Acting: 10
    I played the game in the original language. Nothing to say on this, Ashley, Troy and Laura's work was absolutely terrific. Every emotion of the characters, also thanks to the facial animations get to the hearts of the player.

    Gameplay and AI: 9.5
    Part I had a great gameplay, but part II makes that gameplay even better in every possible department. The shooting feels a lot better and the RPG components of the game (Supplements and weapon upgrades) really impact the gameplay. Level design makes everything a lot more fun, more weapons and objects to use, etc...
    Only downside, although AI has been a lot improved since Part I (both enemies and allies), sometimes your companions do stupid things like pushing you out of cover or walking in front of the enemies (they can't be seen but feels kinda weird playing). Enemies are well organised but in rare cases they can clip and you can just kill them 1 by 1 like a bunch of idiots. Also this is a very minor downside in all the beautiful things that this gameplay offers.

    Longevity and variety: 9.5
    My adventure lasted 30 hours. What can you ask more from a so beautiful game?!
    The adventure is not only long, but puts in front of many different challenges, which must be approached in many different ways (human bossfights, infected bossfights, infected hordes, scars, wlf soldiers, both wlf and scar soldiers, infected and humans, only shamblers, only stalkers, etc....). All this variety makes sure that the gameplay never makes you bored.

    Story and narrative: 9
    The story really is amazing and the level of storytelling is off the charts. The deep diving into the psychology of the characters will be a major milestone in gaming for years. Everything in this game is so emotional. Not a single game ever grazed the level of emotions that are summoned by this game (sadness, hate, desperation, joy, pure emptiness, etc...). The adoption of two storylines crossing each other is extremely beautiful, to see both perspectives and explore both character's minds. The symbolism of the game is also something that can be compared to poetry for how beautiful it is when you can grasp it and understand it.
    Every character feels so alive and seeing how they evolve or devolve is another milestone of the game.
    Now we get to the cons of the story:
    1) The story hits you extremely hard which is not a bad thing, the downside is that some events are presented in a questionable order. Playing as Abby was a great experience. She and Lev are a great team and they both are great characters, but the game wants you in the first part to hate Abby too much, risking to fail in the second half to make you feel empathy for her or at least understand her actions and her character. The game relies too much on the sensibility of the players in this context, that's why the game is "not for everyone"
    2) Too much symbolism. Symbolism is beautiful and poetic, but sometimes is so concealed that people might think that what happened is just a plot hole. This is another reason why the game is "not for everyone".
    3) Story pacing. Flashbacks are well put in the story, but sometimes they break the player's hype too much, especially at the fight in the theater when the control switches to Abby and to get there again you need to play 10 hours. Overall the Abby gameplay is a little to long.

    Anyway, the game is a masterpiece and everyone should try it.    … Expand

The acting, graphics, storytelling, writing, gameplay, level design, progression, pacing, art direction, lighting, enemy and character designs are all top notch and a new step forward for Naughty Dog and the industry as a whole.

    A must play game for anybody, and a generation defining experience for me. The seven year wait was more than worth while.

    this game is amazing. it makes us thinking so much and it can be related to a lot in our lives. definitely not a game for everyone, I bet there gonna be a lot of childish boys complaining lol we know a lot of them do not use their brains and just want to be badass through a game and many prejudiced people will try to find anything to disqualify the game. for me it's 10/10 for ever aspect.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never leave reviews for anything, but I felt compelled to say something about this game because of the ridiculousness surrounding it.

    This game is good. Like very, very good. In MY OPINION and in my experience, it absolutely outdoes the first game in virtually every way. It was an extremely emotionally charged experience for me, I cried several times and found myself questioning every action I was making these characters take. The way the decided to tell the story is brilliant in my opinion. They make you dislike the new character, Abby, and her friends by making her do something horrible, and then through her section of the story and through her gameplay in the latter half of the game, they successfully (to me) humanize everyone on her side of things to the point that it made me genuinely feel terrible and conflicted about everything I had just done as Ellie.

    The overwhelming majority of the criticism leveled at this game is complete nonsense. I am not normally the person to tell a fan base that their outrage is unjustified. I was angry at The Last Jedi. I was angry about Game of Thrones turning into a dumpster fire. This isn't that. The game is fine. If you don't like some of the creative decisions they decided to make, that's on you.

    Joel being murdered and not a central playable character is not an objectively bad creative decision. It's just that you don't like it. Having to play as the woman that killed him is not an objectively bad creative decision, you just don't like it. Ellie deciding not to kill Abby at the end of the game is not an objectively bad creative decision, you just don't like it.

    I can understand why the game going this direction would possibly make you feel some kind of way. But bombing it with 1's and 0's simply because YOU personally didn't like it is stupid and beyond childish.

    And as for the extremely toxic "fans" and trolls **** on the game because Dina is Jewish, the lesbian romance, Abby's physique, and the fact that there's a young trans character in the game- you are all very simple, pathetic and hate filled people and no one needs to take you seriously.

    So in closing, it's okay if you didn't like the game's story. It might not be your cup of tea. But personally, as a massive fan of the first game, I enjoyed every second of it. I think the new characters are wonderful. I think they made huge improvements in gameplay over the first game. The graphics, models, facial animations (and animations in general), sound design and music are all simply breathtaking.

    It's a shame that there are some people leaving reviews here giving it a 10/10 that may not actually feel that way about the game in order to try and push out the review bomb. Personally though I think the 9.5 critic score is completely warranted. I enjoyed it that much.

    I felt like it was a perfect extension of the first game, felt like there was never even a time gap between playing. While I wish some things would have been a little different I can appreciate the direction they wanted to go with the game and absolutely enjoy it for how it was presented. Don't let hateful people make you feel bad for something you enjoy.

I can say no matter what happens with the story this game is a stellar sequel to the first. The gameplay is improved, the graphics are improved, and the story, while controversial, is very real. You can’t expect everyone to be safe simply because they are main characters. Killing characters off made this game world feel way more real than it did already. It seems like everyone who hates this game wanted the Joel and Ellie story again. If that's the case, then just stick to the first game. Why should Naughty Dog tell the same story again? Naughty Dog forewarned that this story would be about the vicious cycle of revenge and they definitely delivered on that promise. If you can get over Joel's death, which is brutal and heartbreaking, you can appreciate the depth and pain of the story Naughty Dog tells through Ellie and Abby. No one can tell me that some of the backlash isn't because Abby is masculine. I've seen plenty of transphobic videos of INCEL men moaning about this. I researched her character, Naughty Dog claims she isn't transgendered but even if she is, who cares? Does that make her pain any less important than anyone else's? The beauty of writing is that writers can MAKE YOU FEEL a certain way. The only reason why everyone was so heartbroken over Joel is because the writers made us feel that way with their brilliant storytelling from the first Last of Us. But we didn't see the other perspectives. We didn't see the carnage and pain Joel caused with his actions. Stop and think about it for a second. Yes, he loved Ellie. He bonded with her after he thought he had lost his ability to bond with anyone. And so he made the decision FOR HIMSELF to save her. It wasn't for Ellie it was for himself. And he sacrified what was probably best for the world to do it. Both Ellie and Abby lost their fathers and avenged them. They have quite a bit in common as characters. But people don't want to see that because Joel and Ellie achieved pedastal status from the first Last of Us game. It was hard to watch Joel die. I cried like many gamers probably did. A lot of people also criticize the ending as pathetic because she couldn't carry out her revenge. Again, people miss the point. Sometimes what we fantasize about in our minds can't be realized when that moment comes. She sees Joel's face and has a moment of realization finally that killing Abby won't bring Joel back but it would destroy her. So she stops. She finally stops pursuing this poisonous vengeance mission. She sits in the ocean and lets the grieving tears flow. She begins to heal. She has to lose basically everything to find herself again. I didn't like the ending in the sense that Ellie chose vengeance over the love of her life and her kid but that's a painfully true fact. When you let revenge take over, it consumes everything good in your life. For that reason I think the story is brilliantly told. I thought Dina's character was written absolutely perfectly. She supports Ellie in her first attempt to get back at these people because she loves her and understands her pain. She's a badass ride or die girl and she does more than enough to help. Then, she gets sick from the pregnancy and almost dies at the hands of Abby. Then, at the Farm House, she defends Ellie from Tommy's stupid warpath. He hasn't learned that enough is enough. Dina tries to convince Ellie to let it go and enjoy the good in her life. Embrace the family they have and stay. Ellie breaks her heart and Dina decides to leave. She's gone when Ellie returns because she wasn't going to let Ellie's lust for revenge tear her down too. Absolutely brilliantly written. I think Naughty Dog does a great job of developing Abby. It took several hours of play for me to begin to empathize with her. Do I side with Ellie or Abby at the end? Honestly, more so with Abby because Abby had let it go. Abby decided to place her focus on Lev and taking care of him. Even in her malnourished and weakened state, she fought for him at the end. Whereas Ellie turned her back on what should've been the most important people to her. Aside from the story, the graphics are breathtaking. It feels like you're participating in a movie at times. I just started a New Game+ and I know I'll play this many times over because I'm sure there's more to notice that I missed. Great game, Naughty Dog.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not perfect, but despite pacing flaws, the game being a little overlong and some other nitpicks. It's a fantastic follow up both in game play design and story, expanding upon previously established characters brilliantly and introduces new compelling characters, both minor and major that make this game world feel so much more fleshed out and alive. Regarding the game play, if you've played the first game, you'll fit right back in and if you haven't (which you should), it's an over the shoulder first person shooter reminiscent of the RE2 remake. The game however also has a focus on stealth and scavenging and all three of these core components of game play work with each other brilliantly, creating a fluid combat system that keeps every fight engaging. With the addition of long grass and the ability to go prone creating a lot more room to approach encounters in different ways. With being stealthy not feeling tedious like most games fail do but instead feeling fun and satisfying. Another fantastic addition is the subtle personalities of enemies. While fighting people they will yell the names of fallen comrades once they are shot or scream in pain after an arm or leg has been shot, this makes the world feel so much more real. Switching the enemies from just mindless bots to actual people with personalities and feeling and this improves the game immensely, this being a trait in major villains as well as just casual enemies. Finally regarding design, the graphics and sound design are phenomenal. This game may be the best looking game out there with certain environments, especially ones in nature looking photo realistic. The sound design is also great with ambient sounds and the tense combat soundtrack really adding to the games overall emotion. The rest of this review will concern spoilers. So if you haven't played this game please do and keep an open mind. There are many negative reviews but I implore that you play it for yourself.

    This game has some major events in the story that haven't been received well by the vast majority of the community, the three parts I'll be talking about are Joel's death, playing as Abby and the ending. First we have Joel's death, personally I think this death was handled perfectly. Though many argue that Joel would've seen the ambush coming, due to him seeing one coming in the first game, the context surrounding these scenes are completely different. In the first game Joel knows about the ambush because he himself says that he had done that exact same tactic of ambush before. The game actually dedicates a huge character moment in the first game where he says how he used to perform that ambush on other people. In the scenario in this game, the characters in the lodge (excluding Abby who gives no reason to make her distrustful at this point to Joel, Tommy and the player) are not aware who Joel is. It's only when he says his name that there is any suspicion but he is shot in the leg and disarmed before he even has a chance to defend himself. As well as that, the game makes it clear through the dialogue that going to the lodge is the only choice, with the storm being too strong to go anywhere else, and with the infected pursuing them in such high numbers, they can't go anywhere else. Calling this death a betrayal of Joel's character is just flat out wrong. It's fine if you're upset about this, I was too, but don't judge the game poorly for something it didn't do. Secondly, the intention of segments where you play as Abby have been misjudged entirely. The point of these sections is not to make her likeable or sympathetic, they're to make her an actual person. The point of these scenes is to show that senseless killing Joel did in that hospital actually mattered, that killing a doctor simply trying to find a cure had consequences and that Joel's choice to save Ellie actually had repercussions. Naughty Dog aren't stupid, they know you aren't going to like Abby after she killed Joel, they aren't trying to, they're trying to show that villains in this story more complex than just good and bad, like in the real world. Which as a game that is meant to be realistic makes sense. Finally, the ending, people were mad that Ellie doesn't get to kill Abby because according to those who hate this ending, without Abby's death, Joel's death was pointless. While also stating that Ellie after killing all those soldiers should have no problem killing Abby. People has misinterpreted the ending entirely. hat moment when Ellie spares Abby, she’s thinking of how Joel said that he does not regret his actions that lead to his death, and that he would always save Ellie over himself. She let’s Abby go because she knows that Joel would be happy regardless of whether he lived or died, or whether Ellie killed Abby or not because Ellie getting out of that hospital and being able to live her life is all that mattered to him. It’s a beautiful ending if you stop and think about it.    … Expand

    There were some uncomfortable moments when you have to play from other POV. But it is a part of story which eventually makes sense and you get attached to other's motives.

    Game of the year" easily! I thoroughly enjoy the games visual complexity and dramatic themes. The level of violence didn't bother me either. Not a perfect game, but great all the same. I recommend playing the game in it's entirety before making judgements.
