    You will forget that you are playing a video game. The story is so engaging, the characters are so real, it makes for the most immersive experience I have ever enjoyed with a videogame. Naughty dog has raised the bar with this one to an unprecedented level. I can only praise and applaud the effort that was put in to make this game. A true masterpiece, thank you Naughty Dog.

Here's the problem: People are upset that Joel died, he's a great character, and very lovable, and all the little touches down to the book on his bedside table make his death hurt even more. But the reality is honestly, he had it coming, he made way too many enemies to not die, and honestly when it comes down to it he made a selfish choice at the end of the first game and paid the price within the first four hours of the second. If it wasn't Abby it would be someone else sometime soon that kills him. As for the rest of the story, ya a lot of the stuff that happens sucks, but they beautifully manage to take a person who brutally murders your favorite character and make her rather human, even likable at times, it's a brilliant example of no good or bad characters, only humans, and if everyone would stop review bombing and just play the game I think the reviews would be a lot better.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 is a very polarizing game, with different narrative threads weaving together to make a complete story.

    This game does an amazing job at showing how ones actions can have a huge impact on not just themselves but others around them. You can literally rename this game "The consequences of Joel Miller". All the major plot points in this game happen because of Joel decisions in the first game.

    First let's talk about game play. It is leagues beyond the first game having very smooth animation and pretty good AI. In this game you would generally have 3 different play styles depending on who you are fighting. The WFL, The Seraphites, or The Infected. Also playing as the quick and agile Ellie makes it easier to sneak around. Then playing as the brutish Abby makes head on attacks a lot easier. Along with the gun upgrades and character progression trees, you have so much customization. This game is refined to the extreme.

    Graphics/Art: This is one of the best looking games this generation. If not the best looking game to come out in this era. ND jammed packed this world with some much life and detail. Playing in the forest area of this game really made it seem next gen. The character designs and the art are out of this world as well. I noticed especially with the infected. The first Clicker I saw looked much more violent and deadly.

    Music: Once again the Last of Us music is phenomenal the games soundtrack plays on every scene so well. Even outside cut scenes the music while exploring fits the tone of each environment you are in. 0 complaints from me.

    Story: Let me just say this. This games story is beyond the first game. Let's get the elephant out the room; Joel's death. It makes perfect sense that Joel dies this way. Without even knowing the rest of the game his death in my eyes was done perfectly. Joel is not the good guy and never has been. Many in the in-game universe would describe him as a monster. Tess said "Joel we are not good people", Tommy hates those years surviving with Joel because they did terrible things. Joel has killed many innocence and has destroyed many of families. He has tortured and beaten so many people. Eventually that would catch up to him. Abby asked Joel "To guess who they were". Joel has crossed so many people he cannot even make an educated guess to who is coming after him. I love Joel but I can see he is not a good person and is flawed. He got the death he gave so many himself. Also it is perfectly in Joel character to save Abby. He has been in Jackson for 4 years and their main objective is to protect the people in their community and also expand it. They have saved brought people in numerous times over the 4 years. And that is explained within the first 3 to 4 hours of the game.

    Now while following Ellie we get to see her get revenge on those who wronged her. While playing as her you feel her rage and you want her to kill everyone that hurts Joel. But something that was not expected was Ellie slowly starting to break down because of what she is doing. Nora, Mel and Owen are great examples of Ellie not having the stomach to do what she thinks she needs to do. Ellie part of the game is emotional and you believe in her the entire time. Also getting to see how Joel progressed through flashbacks was amazing. We get to see how soft and tender he became over the years. Really well done story telling.

    Now in my opinion the best part of the game. Playing as Abby. When I first started playing as Abby I knew what ND was doing. And I was rolling my eyes because there was just no way I would side with Abby. But as her story continues and you see it play out. You began to realize that Abby has more compassion than Ellie or Joel. Many times she could have killed them all but she never wanted to end up like her biggest monster "Joel". She even runs parallel to Joel in the first game. While he found solace in Ellie, Abby found solace in Lev. By the end of the game I wanted Abby to win. Because she gave chance after chance to people who really did not deserve it.

    Overall do not look at anyone in this game as good or bad. There is no black and white. Only shades of grey. Although I liked Abby in the end, she is still a bad and terrible person. Joel is still my favorite character but he is a monster.

    Go into this game with an open mind and let ND take you on an adventure.    … Expand

    It is one of the most if not the most complicated story driven game of all time.
    Now i know there are a lot of negative reviews out there but what people don't understand is every single person in this game is a protagonist of their own story. You guys have every right to hate Abby because she killed one of the most beloved protagonist of the generation in that brutal fashion but if Ellie was in Abby's shoes you could not say she would've done different. I get that it is really difficult to get over a loss like that and show empathy but i request you guys to at least give it a try. Now to the review, this game is one of the most beautiful game on the Playstation, Every little corner is very well defined and is the biggest game created by Naughty dog so far. The combat mechanics is very brutal but satisfying given the context. The story is very complex and poetic that in this post apocalyptic world, the writers want you understand every decision made by Ellie and every other character. The story might be way too brutal and unforgiving but in a post apocalyptic world like this these people do what they need to do to survive. The ending is not unjust, its just that Ellie finally understands that she has hurt Abby enough and figured out that all this violence is unneeded and empathizes Abby........
    If you thought this review was too cheesy or whatever i am sorry but that's what i honestly think. So do not just believe any negative reviews you read online because most of their reviews are 2 dimensional for a lack of a better word. And some of them just give bad reviews just to join in on all the hype or to get attention

It would have been easy for Naughty Dog to take this hackneyed approach but they do something very different.     Amazing game. Ballsy storyline that the Neanderthals will (and do) hate. The "not my Luke Skywalker" brigade will always attack a story that portrays their "heroes" as flawed in anyway. It's the humanity that means something to a character's arc. The imperfection. The fallibility. This game is brilliant.

    El juego es duro y con esto no me refiere sólo a su gameplay que de por si es muy intenso. Exige demasiado del jugador hay partes donde no quieres seguir jugando, odias tanto como Elie lo hace pero sí le das la oportunidad, lo escuchas y llegas hasta el final habrá valido la pena.

    En cuanto al apartado técnico el juego es una maravilla, excelente música por supuesto no se puede pedir menos de Santaolalla, los efectos de sonido, las animaciones, los gráficos, los escenarios, las actuaciones (recomiendo jugarlo en inglés) el gameplay son perfectos en todos los aspectos un juego bien pulido en el cual todas las piezas se unen para tratar de conectar con el jugador y transmitir su mensaje, depende de tus sentimientos y tu disposición a comprender al otro sí el mensaje funciona o no.

    Sección con spoilers:
    Si bien, se nos vendió un juego que trata de la venganza y el odio y estos temas si son de suma relevancia para la historia son solamente la mitad de ella (literalmente) los verdaderos temas de los que habla el juego son la empatia y el perdón.

    Entiendo a la perfección la controversia por la muerte de Joel y el jugar como su asesino Abby cuando lo ves en el juego te da asco y quieres dejar de jugar pero hay que admitirlo por más que amemos a Joel y habríamos hecho lo mismo que el, sus acciones tienen consecuencias. Entiendo que la gente quiera ver una aventura de Joel y Elie siendo felices y aunque en cierto punto si la obtenemos debemos de ser conscientes que en el mundo de the last of us las cosas no son tan sencillas.

    Sí en el primer juego experimentamos la formación de la relación de Joel y Elie principalmente desde el punto de vista de Joel, en este presenciaremos las consecuencias en su relación desde aquel día en el hospital a partir del punto de vista de Elie. Aunque en un punto pareciese que la historia no trata de la relación entre estos dos personajes créeme que al final es lo que más importa y los personajes secundarios al igual que en la anterior entrega están ahí para contrastar y analizar esta misma relación desde distintas perspectivas.

    He escuchado a muchos decir que el final es deprimente y no tiene sentido, cuando a mi punto de vista no podría ser más equivocado este enfoque. El final es la aceptación de todo lo que pasó el dejar ir los resentimientos y odio para continuar adelante con un recordatorio permanente de la relación de Joel y Elie y lo que ella perdió al enfocarse plenamente en como murió Joel en lugar de como le enseñó a amar y a seguir luchando por ello. Sí estas dispuesto a jugar este juego no cometas el mismo error, sigue adelante y no permitas que el odio te ciegue deja que los demás te cuenten sus historias y trata de comprenderlos. Al final no importa si te caen bien o mal los personajes mientras puedas aceptar.

    Definitivamente una obra sublime, madura y valiente, no cualquiera hace un videojuego con una historia lineal y enfocada en su narrativa cuando se sabe que muchos jugadores nunca jugaran hasta el final, mucho menos se mata a un personaje principal tan cruelmente, no se incita en un momento al jugador a sentir tanto odio, rencor y asco como para dejar a un lado el control, ni se pregunta si los jugadores estarán dispuestos a ser cuestionados por sus acciones y sentimientos cuando se cambia la perspectiva hacia los supuestos villanos.
    Es un suicidio y como se ve en el score de los usuarios en esta plataforma muchos jugadores no están dispuestos a escuchar al otro. En definitiva una obra necesaria para estos tiempos.

    Puntos negativos: Lo único que a mi parecer se sintió forzado, raro o creo que no añadió mucho a la trama fueron; las acciones de Tommy que a mi parecer fueron erráticas a lo largo de toda la historia y solo se sintió como un plot device, no estoy segura si hubiera sido mejor presentar la perspectiva de Abby desde antes de matar a Joel, antes o intercalada con la narrativa de Elie pero cuando menos al final funcionó lo suficiente conmigo como para verla a ella y todos sus amigos como humanos, la escena de sexo entre Abby y Owen no añadió nada y la encuentro incomoda, pudo haberse cortado con el beso y ya se daba a entender, de verdad no sé por que la añadieron parece que querían ver si se quejaban más del beso lesbico que de eso o tal vez se preparaban para HBO.
    De ahí en fuera todo añade a la trama aún las partes que no me gustan y su extensión.

    Una obra cruda y ruda pero al mismo tiempo humana e inspiradora, recordándonos que todos somos humanos. Ame este juego tanto como la primera entrega y sé que al final todo valió la pena.    … Expand

As I clearly understand a good ammount of people will lack the maturity to accept this story (and you are not, in any mean, forced to like it), it is impossible to deny that the narrative level here is amazing. Such a rollercoaster of emotions. Visually, I don't think I even need to mention it, it is crazy good. As far as gameplay goes, while itNaughty Dog was bold here. VERY bold. The documents and everything else you find helps you deepen the story of people living between those 2 factions, but it will get a bit ehxausting with time.

    All that remains is the big question: where will they go from there?

This is the first time I ever reviewed on Meta critic and I usually dont give a **** but I feel like there has to be a better representation of real gamers and not this fake troll campaign. I wish I could give this higher than 10/10. And no I am not a big supporter of political agendas being shoved down our throats but this game is not big deal on that area anyways. I am trying my best to understand why people are so passionately trying to review bomb this game. The only thing I can think of is some pc gamers having a goof somewhere.… Expand

Игра качественно продолжает сюжет первой части, и если что не понравилось то это скорее дело вкуса нежели сценарные проколы. В игре великолепная графика,качественное звуковое сопровождение, крутая атмосфера запоминающиеся персонажи и т.д. и т.п, в основном одни плюсы. Из минусов лично для себя выделю затянутость сюжета играя за Эбби, видеть Элли хотелось бы больше. Игра подарила кучу эмоций - ностальгию, улыбку качественно перетекающую в слезу смешанных чувств, злость(бомбило иногда, особенно когда заставили за Эбби против Элли сражаться) чувство тревоги в некоторых моментах и легкое чувство смятения и неопределенности в финале. В общем,не верьте 99% негативных оценок,это оценки людей которые скорее всего не игравший в эту игру и знающих о ней только то что Элли лесбиянка.Кстати о пропаганде ЛГБТ, в игре действительно присутствуют нотки толерантности(не толерастии) но на сюжет не влияют да воспринимаются адекватно. Честная оценка игре - 8.5-9 баллов, но ставлю 10 из за наплыва неадекватов.… Expand

    The first chapter was, in my opinion, the best playstation game of the decade and one of the best gaming experience ever. With The Last of Us 2, Naughty Dog improved every aspect of the game from the storytelling to the gameplay and graphics. Absolutely amazing.

I am extremely dissatisfied with jsw in this game and I hope that in future projects of developers there will no longer be obsessive propaganda of feminism and LGBT, which does not develop the main characters, in particular, Ellie. I am also extremely dissatisfied with the story arc for Abby, which destroys everything that we all love the first part for - the relationship of Joel and Ellie. But the second half of this game literally almost forgets about the relationship between Joel and Eli, and their place is trying to present us with the relationships of Ally and Dina, who are of little interest to the players.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. La mayoría de los que le ponen mala calificación nisiquiera jugaron el 1 completo y el dlc una vez. Yo me pasé el juego 6 veces y también en la mayor dificultad, por lo que sé qué sucede al revés y derecho, además de jugar también left behind. Y otra, 12 horas de ver gameplays no es todo el juego. Desde un inicio, inclusive desde antes que Ellie se uniera con Joel, se explicó que la sexualidad de Ellie era ser lesbiana, obviamente el personaje ya tiene 19 años necesita algo de feromonas y bueno, se nos regala Dina, que a mí parecer es un excelente personaje, Dina es bisexual, su ex es Jesse, las cosas no funcionan con él, pero desde ya hace tiempo ella sentía cosas por Ellie y sabía que Ellie sentía cosas por ella, ya que se explica en el diario que tiene Ellie durante todo el juego. La relación que se presenta entre ellas 2, es más que buena, no niego que el fumar un porro esté de más en una escena que terminará siendo sexual; sin embargo, buscan darle aires de adolescentes que quieren experimentar y esas cosas, hasta aparecen pipas y máscaras hechas para eso. Muchos hablan que el juego es puro loot y se les olvida, que es un juego de supervivencia, que necesitas recursos, en el 1, claro que looteabas, pero les molesta trabajar de más, porque los mapas son más grandes y hasta eso no tanto como los de mundo abierto, sólo son flojos. La villana NO ES TRANSGÉNERO, en las escenas se llega a apreciar su niñez y su cuerpo de Niña, simplemente es una mujer con un cuerpo demasiado desarrollado, que se preparó prácticamente toda su vida, para matar a la persona que mató a su padre, cuando éste buscaba una cura (que tengo mis sospechas que es otra cosa más allá), no sé de dónde saca la gente semejantes tonterías. Desde el 1, se sabe que el miedo de Ellie, era quedarse completamente sola y sabes qué? Así sucede. La muerte de Joel, tenía que pasar, muchos no quieren admitirlo porque son llorones y berrinchudos que no están acostumbrados a que sus personajes favoritos mueran y quieren que todo sea color rosa y las cosas terminen bien. Se tenía que dar protagonismo a Ellie, era obvio que Joel ahora, estaba de más, aunque él fuera el héroe del primer juego, ya estaba también mayor de edad, si el manejo del primero te decía que Joel era más robusto y pesado, qué pensarías ahora que pasaron otros años más? En cambio el manejo de Ellie es completamente diferente, puede esquivar, golpear, correr más, tirarse en la hierba, saltar, escalar por medio de cuerdas, etc etc. Entiendo que el manejo de Abby, sea del desagrado de muchos, de jugar con el personaje que mató a tu fav no? Todo son matices grises, el juego trata de que comprendas que Abby es mejor de lo que aparenta ser y quizá para algunos no les parezca, porque son menos empáticos. El propósito del juego es precisamente dar un mensaje que la venganza es un ciclo sin fin, hasta que cortas la cadena, desencadenas masacre y media para al final dejar ir a la persona que lo inició, perdonando que mató a quién era tu padre y rompiendo el ciclo, porque al final captas que como te dije, no todo era blanco o negro. Estan súper emperrados, porque los niños a la de ahuevo quieren su venganza y el juego no les transmitió ningún msj y sólo quieren que se haga lo que ellos quieren, para desquitarse de que le mataron a su personaje fav. Qué le enseñó Joel a Ellie? Joel le enseñó a disparar, a qué sobrevivierá y le enseñó egoísmo y que haría lo que fuera para proteger a sus seres queridos, quitándole la posible salvación de la humanidad para verla crecer. Todo es gris. Ellie hace masacre y media pero capta el msj final. Se muestra cómo Joel le ocultó la verdad a Ellie pero más después, si se la cuenta, eso deteriora su relación con ella pero al final se ve cómo ella lo perdona y le dice que entiende lo que hizo y que puede perdonarlo, porque Joel dice que si le darían a escoger lo mismo de nuevo, sería la misma elección. Obviamente el desmadre que hizo Ellie, es un arranque de ira que tuvo, porque le quitaron a alguien importante. El juego quiere transmitir humanismo y empatía, obviamente también hay mensajes para la gente intolerante que sólo busca argumentos del mismo tipo para atacar a un juego que es buenísimo, para los que son fans de la saga y han jugado lo que se tenía que jugar antes de, que entienden la historia y el mensaje, querían también que esa gente intolerante, cambiará o mínimo respetara y dejara de atacar cosas que para ello son antinaturales o cómo le dicen inclusivo a la fuerza.… Expand

    The story and gameplay gave me as much if not more emotions as the first part. And that's always the win in my book. Great game. I applaud the Naughty Dog and Niel Druckman for not catering to their fan base and making something that stands out from any expected scenario for a sequel.

    I liked the Story and character-progression a lot. I'm just not a huge fan of the ending. Thats why it isnt a 10/10.

Though I must admit I wish Joel had much more of a heroic death, if it had to happen, and it wasn’t so near the beginning of the game. Initially I despised Abby for her actions and was even extremely annoyed that the player was forced to play as Abby for a very long portion of the game but towards the end I understood her actions and it was almost hard to paint her as a villain. I even held back at the end fight scene between Ellie and Abby because I didn’t want her to die! I can’t believe you made me grow to ALMOST like the woman that killed my Joel.     Every creative choice in this game – the deaths, the violence, the structure, the player character changes – had a pretty obvious point about cycles of violence and revenge. It hinges, smartly, on the most controversial moment of the first game and how horrific acts for the "right" reasons still have consequences. The structure, also smartly, puts the revenge tale in the first half of the game, and then forces you to empathize with all the people you killed retroactively, knowing full well there’s nothing you can do to stop what’s coming. It forces you to examine of the actions of "heroes" critically which it seems some players just don't want to do.

    I think, ultimately, it probably belabored it’s central point a bit too much, but I was gripped and tense the entire time. It is a fantastic achievement, IMO.

    Gameplay is classic TLOU but polished, with dozens of tense encounters, a more fluid combat system and a surprising amount of action set pieces. Also was pleasantly surprised by the number of jump scares. Visually, I think this is certainly the best looking game of this generation, perhaps the best looking game ever made.    … Expand

At the end of The Last of Us Part II, there are several scenes which end on a cut to black which holds for a few seconds before the next scene begins. During many of the holds, I thought that was it: the game was done and that was the end. And though some were more happier and some were devastating, each of them would have been a powerful ending. The way that each new scene could rephrase or restate everything going before it was astounding. Any of these endings would have worked but still each new one deepened my appreciation for the game.

    The only reason any of that works, then is because the game first weaves an intensely intricate story, spending hours establishing the setting, introducing and developing characters, and presenting themes and motifs that are echoed in these "endings".

    Of course this game doesn't do that on its own, it obviously leans on its predecessor. This is the best kind of sequel, one that deepens your appreciation of the original not by retreading the same points, instead it deepening the emotional core of the first game. I think "Part 2" is an appropriate name. This isn't telling the next "The Last of Us" story. This is telling the second half of the same story.

    I don't think I need to say that the presentation (graphics, audio, VO/MC performances) of the game is amazing. The gameplay was enjoyable, making only a few quality of life improvements from the formula of the first game. I played on a harder-than-I-normally-would difficulty, which forced me to be much more tactical, taking time to scour for supplies and choose carefully when to use them. Playing this way helped the gameplay build into the dire, fight and claw for your life mood of the setting.

    I sympathize with anyone who wanted this to be a different game. I've been there before and it's not fun. But by taking the game on its own terms, what I got from this game was an immensely impactful emotional experience. While not everyone will love the story even on its terms, I don't think it's fair to compare the game against what you hoped. Because what it we do have is something pretty amazing.    … Expand

I understand there is an overwhelming amount of people disliking the game and at first I didn’t understand why till the very end. However, for the same reasons, I love the game. Because it forces you to make the same decisions as Ellie and Abby and that makes the weight even heavier. I remember having to take breaks from the game because of the emotional weight and anticipation of a violent confrontation because I feared another beloved character dying by MY OWN HANDS! I cannot think of a better example of interactive media. This is my opinion and I understand how some people would dislike this game I just hope it doesn’t discourage Naughty Dog from producing similar stories.… Expand

    Those who dislike the game and give it a zero are overly attached to a preconceived notion of what the game "should" be. Their hero worship of Joel prevents them from being receptive to the greater story. It's sad, their blind hatred of the game only proves the point that the game makes.

A mi personalmente me ha gustado mucho y me ha dejado pensando, los personajes no son malos, si bien no todos brillan por su personalidad de todos modos no dejan de ser personajes solidos, Ellie por otra parte fue una protagonista muy buena y me gusto mucho lo que hicieron con ella, entiendo que muchos se enfadaran con lo que ella hizo al final pero los invito a analizar un poco mas todo por lo que ella pasó en este juego y la relación que tenía con Joel, en mi opinión fue Ellie es un personaje muy realista y bastante humano, eso yo se los aplaudo a los escritores, y bueno, esa fue mi opinión, de verdad vale la pena vivir el juego uno mismo, no es para nada igual verlo en youtube que jugarlo, Denle una oportunidad.… Expand

    They definitely took risks with storytelling in this game, and personally, I loved it. It's dark, depressing, gut-wrenching sometimes, thought-provoking and ultimately satisfying experience. Glad to see there's still AAA game developers who treat their games with enough respect to not make them predictable and fansevricy.

    Needless to say, the visuals in TLOU part 2 are simply top notch.

    The Last of Us Part II is one of the best games I've played in a while and one of my favorites of all time. The game has absolutely stunning visuals, the best I've ever seen no one can deny that. So if you enjoyed the gameplay from the first game, you're most likely going to enjoy it just as much in this game too. The soundtrack is amazing, Gustavo Santaolalla brings it again.
    And then there is the most controversial part of The Last of Us Part II, which is the story. For me I had no problem with the story, but you got to understand that it's my opinion and a lot of people are going to have differing opinions. There is that infamous "golf" scene that a lot of people hate, but for me I didn't have a problem with it from a story perspective, don't get me wrong it's a crazy scene but I thought it was kinda necessary to advance the plot. Then there is also the second part of the game which is probably going to make or break the game for you. I was quite scared at first when I started playing the second part of the game but then I started to like it a lot. By the end of the game I was almost in tears, a similar feeling from when I ended the first game.
    I do get why people hate The Last of Us Part II, the story is one of the most controversial stories in gaming and you're probably either going to love it or hate it, I fall in to the "love it" category. For me the controversial moments of the game are the ones that make the game so special, but I do understand the frustration and the disappointment that some people felt. This review is probably going to be hated by people, considering the game got review bombed and a lot of people are upset, however that is not going to change my opinion on the game. This is one of the best cinematic and storytelling games that I've ever played and I think it's on par with the first Last of Us. Naughty Dog is my favorite developers of all time and the The Last of Us franchise is my favorite game series of all time. Naughty Dog make some of the best games out there and The Last of Us Part II is no exception.

    I genuinely hated this game for a solid 4-6 hours into the second half of the story. I kept telling myself the gamey would have to pull off a miracle in the end for this to all be worth it. While calling the ending a miracle is definitely hyperbole, the game ultimately succeeded in what I personally needed it to in order for it to all be worth it in the end. This game made me feel sick to my stomach, it made me question myself and it genuinely disturbed me. Some may see this as shock value but, trauma really is shocking. That is why it is trauma. As someone who has dealt with trauma, Ellie's journey in this sequel is deeply personal to me. Experiencing Ellie's trauma along with her via the sudden flashes of Joel really gives the game a dark sense of realism and depth. Ellie's episode in the barn was heartbreaking and felt as though my heart was being torn from my chest. I wanted nothing more than to hug Ellie in that moment, to somehow comfort her.

    No game or film has ever moved me like this. You have so many people on the hate bandwagon, saying this game is poorly written because they are incapable of discerning subtext or decoding non-linear story structures. This is a game that should only be experienced free of leaks and spoilers. If ever there was a story that could be tainted by such a thing, it is this one. Certain individuals will simply close themselves off and reject the story in its entirely due solely to the fact that said scenes exist rather than endeavor to understand what they mean in the broader context.

    There are many people succumbing to the social pressures of their in-group to despise this game and it is more tragic than the story itself. In years time, I know many will look back more favorably upon this game. This is certainly a story that requires effort from the viewer, something gamers keep claiming they want but refuse to accept it when they finally get it. This is the most mature story I've ever experienced in a video game, not just when it comes to themes but with what it asks of the player. You will be challenged, you will be expected to discern subtext and you will be expected to piece together the non-linear narrative. If this is something you are not comfortable doing, then I can certainly see why you would dislike this narrative.

    This is not a generic revenge story. Those that say it is are the same who say that !!SPOILER!! Ellie should have killed Abby. The fact that Ellie lets her go and the reason behind it is precisely why this game is so much more than a generic revenge story. In the very moment Ellie decides to spare Abby, she breaks the cycle. In that very moment, Ellie has finally forgiven Abby for what she did, forgiven Joel for taking from her what she perceived to be her life's purpose but most of all, she has forgiven herself... You see, this game is not about Ellie's war with Abby, it is about Ellie and Abby's wars with themselves.

    Ellie blames herself for Joel's death because she is the reason he made the decision to save her, despite what that meant. She blames herself for being immune. She blames herself for not being able to provide a cure. She blames herself for being unable to forgive Joel for what he did; being unable to reconcile before his death. In the very moment Ellie spares Abby, instead of seeing a traumatic flash of Joel's bloody face, we see a flash of Joel sitting in a chair on the porch, playing his guitar. Finally she is able to let go of her guilt, finally she is able to forgive Joel for doing what he did to save her, finally she is able to forgive Abby for her transgressions against her broken family, finally she is able to forgive herself for being the catalyst for this entire series of events.

    This story is deeply disturbing, tragic, heartfelt and has a bleak sense of realism. This game is not a window into an ideal world which audiences are so comfortable with. It is a mirror that reflects the darkness of humanity back at you and forces you to feel and see things you are not comfortable with. That is why this game is so divisive. Some people just cannot handle the mirror, they prefer the window.

    This is the most important game I have ever experienced and I suspect it may change my life moreso than the first installment.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't have much words. This game is amazing and i will try to explain why with pure honesty. This games starts very brilliantly and at the same time, it shows a big heartbreaking scene. While you play as Ellie to try to avenge Joel, you will be given the chance to experience flashbacks of their recent past, between the first game and the his death. Those scenes were, in my opinion, the most realistic and the best part of the game. My favorite part was when joel surprises Ellie at her birthday, and i think i don't need to explain why. The song he wrote was beautiful and i shared some tears when ellie sang them after the event. The graphics are utterly unexplainable, they look next gen and i have no idea how my ps4 managed to run that and so well... I did my best to avoid spoilers, and that is obviously the main reason of this scores, because most people didn't give it the chance it so well deserved. I loved the introduction of Ellie's new friends and girlfriend, Dina, and even though i wished of Abby's death, i enjoyed playing as her and it made sense, she had her own reasons, almost as close to Ellie's. The message of the story is perfectly executed, in the end, both lost so much more while seeking revenge, and the final scene shows the realistic father daughter bond between Ellie and Joel. When she remembers how Joel brought light to her life, she knew that killing wouldn't have been the solution, after losing so much, she understood that revenge wasn't what Joel would have wanted her to do. The only thing i wished this game changed was reducing the war between the Wolves and the Seraphites, where it could be focusing more on Abby's story and connection to Ellie's path because i generally didn't really care about the seraphites, but that's just a small part of this unbelievable game. The game was indeed perfect and managed to become even better than it's predecessor, so i can only recommend everyone to experience this amazing and beautiful game by themselves. I score this a solid 100/100.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
