One of the worst experience in Gaming. It hurts my feeling after playing this game. The visual are great for last-gen and gameplay has improved since part 1 (still getting bored after 3 hours playing), but these factors can't save the game. Because the story is the core of this game. Once it's suck, the whole game is f*cked up.

Although there are many reviews claiming that they don't even care about the SJW nonsense and their negative take is actually based on the fact that naughty dog destroyed character and created a terrible story, however, these two points are completely mutually inclusive in this case, the character was destroyed and the story was of poor quality BECAUSE OF the politics, not in spite of them of apart from them. Killing a main character in this case is SJW politics, as it serves to advance and support the SJW agenda, these points cannot logically be separated. In this particular case, you can not say you are not concerned about the SJW politics but you are concerned in the disrespect of character as the disrespect of character is because of SJW politics. If they'd killed him for another reason your point would be valid and sound, but as they did not, its not valid or sound. Expand

One of the best games i've ever played. The direction e the execution of the narrative is one of the most impressive things that i've ever seen on any entertainment content. You need to be a very mature and open minded person to get close to the level of undestanding in each hidden meanings that the game try to tell. Outstanding.

Beat the game in 15 hours. Did not enjoy it at all.

Nothing wrong with killing a main character. They do it poorly.

Nothing wrong with sad endings. They do it poorly.

Nothing wrong with showing the other perspective. They do it poorly.

The pacing of the game is done poorly.

    The graphics are good.

Part II nails a number of things that make most games great. The controls feel incredibly tight and fluid. The presentation is remarkable, and will likely end up being the best of this console generation. The voice acting and motion capture is top-notch, as we've come to expect from Naughty Dog over the past decade. Yet despite all of this, I can never see myself replaying it. In fact, I would struggle to recommend this game to anyone; especially not fans of the original game.

In many ways, the Last of Us Part II falls into the same mistakes that made The Last Jedi reviled by most fans of that franchise. In an attempt to be subversive, Naughty Dog loses sight of what made the first game so universally loved by critics AND fans. In an attempt to be poignant, they just come off seeming pretentious.

To make matters worse, the latter half of the game amounts to what is essentially an aimless side-quest, with the only motivation to push through coming from the promise of a pay-off in the finale which never comes.

Part II is a visually stunning game, but when the glitter wears off, all we're left with is a story for masochists who enjoy being taught a lesson they already know.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My most wanted video game this year, so far...turned to be very disappointing. If we're regarding technical part of naughty dog's product, there are no questions, the game is wonderful, competing with red dead redemption 2's detailing level and graphics. I'm not lying, it's a technical masterpiece. But, regarding the story, i have several questions. What happened to female characters, they're all so ugly, with male-like bodies. I'm not sexist, but it looks weird.
Also, what happened to straight-white males protagonists, they are missing. Also i'm not sexist, but it's discrimination, story runining choice.
In which point of game developement, naughty dog choose to kill Joel and replace him with a weird trans antagonist. This literally destroyed me. Killing the best protagonist of all time, how it's a good choice?
Okay, i'll throw my right-wing education, and ask another question: What happened to the story, it's awful, where's is the excellent the last of us part 1 plot? Okay, but what happened to critics score, why it's higher than first one? Or all critics are just left'wing liberalists that don't give a damn about the actual game, posting payed reviews just to support their ideology? To show that i'm right, look at ign us's review, and highly conservative ign japan's review. I think the second was more trustful. Last few words.
Naughty dog made a game full of liberal, radical feminist, lgbt propaganda, instead of making an actually good product. P.S. I wasn't able to hold my anger until the end of my gameplay, it's just heartbreaking, and i'm hopping that metacritic will not take down my review

What a mess, what made the first game one of the best game of all time? The history The gameplay from 1 and part 2 are decent but to be honest is nothing exceptional is a basic 3rd person shooter. But here its the same formula with such a terrible history that somehow manage to bore people playing for the first time and piss off people who love the first one. And man what a trainwreck is this history that leads nothing to nowhere, with plot that make absolute no sense. Also metal gear fans will know the felling....you want to play with they advertise to you right? You buy the game to play with the character the "sold" to you in the trailers, in their ads. Well guess again you Will spend half the game playing as a character who torture a beloved character from the franchise. Naughty dog/Neil druckman tries so hard, be bold put a powerfull history and Sens a message and all this blahw blah...that turns everything in a huge cliche.
Just ignore all dialogues, cutscenes and the first game and you might have a good time. Imagine John Wick letting the guy who killed his dog walk away after killed hundreads of people, cause you know...revenge leads tô nowhere bla, bla, bla.

Regarding the first teaser-trailer: Joel is only in Ellie's head, giving only one possible direction as a theory. It did not promise anything. This was the only logical "theory" that has now been confirmed.
Also, regarding the "scam" of the Release-Date trailer: Joel might have been alive originally and Druckmann changed it later. However, I don’t think so, I think this was done intentionally. Not to fool their audiences but to scare them or something. Yes, the media team made the cuts between scenes too fast, true. But: Like in the first teaser, Joel (as Jessie) here could be a hallucination (he wants her to stop), because she expected Joel, everywhere she goes she has Joel on her mind. You can see her hopeless face, after she sees Jessie’s face.
Well, this was only for explanation reasons. This is not confirmed or anything, but it does make sense.

    Actual review:
I have played a lot of masterpieces, The Last of Us Part II might be the best of them. Personally, I enjoyed other games more (bc this game is mostly not about fun), but purely objectively TLoUPII is the best game, or at least in the top 3 games of all time. I enjoyed it with various emotions, shed tears and laughed. Please don't listen to haters and finish the game first, form your own opinion. The gameplay, story, acting (check out the facial animation), the characters, the graphics are all top-tier. The story could have been better, by that I mean that the order of events could have been structured differently. The pacing certainly isn’t perfect. Certain scenes split the player-base, are completely logical though. Everything of what comes before and after these scenes was done insanely good. The overall game is a masterpiece of writing that I have rarely seen in any media. And no, I have finished a LOT of games, but only this game has captivated me, entertained me that much. I usually rate games based on facts, not necessarily supported by my own opinion and TLoUPII does not deserve anything below 9/10, sorry. It's unbelievable how much work and love (and cruelty) was put into this project.
I hope the PS5 version fixes a few things, adds 60fps and ray-tracing. Maybe there will be an optional story-order to choose from, or additional paths.
We’re still waiting for Multiplayer Mode (as a stand-alone) and it’s coming soon.
I currently give it 96/100. The PS5 version will probably top that.

    Thanks for reading.

The Gameplay and Graphics are good but the AI is stupid as hell. The enemies don't even response to your Allies. Dina crawls right beside them and they pretend they don't have eyes and it's laughable. I understand most games now provide an Ally so the gameplay is not as boaring or so that it doesn't get lonely but dude. Put in the extra effort to polish it and make the AI to detect your Allies as well.
The starting of the game where we first get to see the settlement was so good . If they really wanted they could have gone in a different way and tell us a heartwarming lovable story but they had to be disrespectful to its fans and put in their **** agenda and make it worse.
If you are a new comer you will enjoy the game but for the fans of the previous it just fuels us with harate and ending the game with saying violence is bad after Ellie killing thousands of innocent people .
The game might as be named The End of us and not the last of Us.
I have a huge games collection but I particularly shared this game from a friend because I have no wish to help the developers for being disrespectful. You don't make us Love a piece of work and then destroy it for your **** agenda. Might as well make a new IP for it.

    This game is beautiful!

Game play is crisp excluding the dodge mechanic which needs work.

    Cons:
Game doesn't let you play your way it forces you to sneak sometime while forcing you to flee others which is fine just not my style.

Linear story could have been opened up more like the first area to allow more exploration and open world feeling.

The story is terrible or at least half of the story, I have never played a game that seems like it was made by two completely different teams. Playing as Ellie is great, and Abby is a chore.

The main mechanic is playing one side then the other when both are not equal in quality this does not work.

TLDR: They missed the mark with this game, and it is only exacerbated by "game journalists" who refuse to give an unbiased review. I wanted to love this game however after over 20 hours I could not stand to play it any longer making this the first game I have ever traded in on release week.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I typically don't write reviews for anything but this game compelled me to do so. Let me preface this by saying I love Naughty Dog games. I loved the Uncharted series and the first Last of Us. Upon completion of this game, I was left with a very stale taste of my mouth. Major spoilers going forward.

First, the good. Graphics, gameplay, voice acting, landscapes, and designs. I enjoyed the combat and the game never felt too hard at all (I died in a couple of spots but nothing too bad). However, most people are playing this game because of the story and, let me tell you, that is where the whole thing falls off a cliff.

In the first two hours of the game, you are introduced to a character named Abby. You even play as her a little bit in the beginning. From the get-go you can tell something is off with her. Throughout the beginning, you come to realize that Abby and her friends are there to kill Joel. Joel and Tommy find Abby in trouble during a blizzard/zombie hoard and rescue her. When they get back to the house her friends are at, that's when things take a turn.

Ellie finds Joel and Tommy but then watches as Abby puts the finishing touches on Joel's face with a golf club. Now we have the building blocks of a revenge story (since Abby and her friends conveniently let Ellie and Tommy live). The first half of the game, I was super on board. Yeah let's go **** up Abby and her friends. Nobody ****s with my boy Joel and gets away with it. The first day in Seattle was great. You are traveling around with Dina (your girlfriend) in an almost open-world type feel where you are finding points of interest and finding extra loot.

You proceed to play three full days in Seattle with lots of drama and good mixtures of action between zombies and humans. Dina is pregnant (from her ex who you actually meet up with at one point) and you are trying to find Tommy who set out before you to get revenge for Joel. Eventually, you get to a point where Ellie kills two of Abby's friends (the only two people on that side worth giving a damn about) and leaves her map with their marked location next to their bodies.

Alright, first off... come on. This is Ellie we are talking about. Also Tommy and Jesse were there so none of them picked up the map? Fine, whatever. Abby finds you, kills Jesse (the ex) and is holding Ellie at gunpoint. Then the game completely changes for me and this is where I began to hate it.

The game then proceeds to take you all the way back to Seattle Day 1... but as Abby. You then get to play ALL THREE days in Seattle as Abby. So you spend half the game making me hate this person and then try and spend the other half of the game trying to get me to feel bad for them? **** that. The whole time I was playing as Abby I was telling myself "they can't seriously be making me play all three days as her, right?". They did. Abby even gets to face off against a giant infected that would have been way cooler to fight as Ellie. Honestly, I got Abby killed a lot on purpose just to make me feel better. She is scared of heights? I should throw her off this building just because. Should I watch her get her neck broken? Sure.

The worst though was after you get through all three days with Abby, you are now back at the theater holding Ellie at gunpoint and you literally have a boss fight AGAINST ELLIE. I let Ellie kill me at least 20 times hoping that the game would just say "The End" but no, they make you beat Ellie before you can proceed. I thought what game turns you into the villain and asks you to fight the main protagonist? Are you serious? Imagine you're playing a Zelda game and halfway through Nintendo decides to have you play as Ganondorf for the other half of the game.

Needless to say there is lots of death but every mainish character gets to somehow live. Look at it this way, when Abby is done with Ellie (I mean she really lays into her) we have a ridiculous situation. Ellie is weak and beaten up, Jesse is dead, Dina is knocked out, pregnant and shot through the shoulder with an arrow, and Tommy is shot in the head and leg bleeding out in the lobby but the game shoots forward at least a year or so to Ellie and Dina living in a farmhouse. How the hell did Ellie get back to town with Tommy near death and Dina injured while also being injured herself?

Eventually, you get to the end and you don't even kill Abby. You see Joel in a flashback as you're about to kill her and let Abby live. You go through the entire game wanting to kill Abby and you don't even get to complete the revenge. In fact, you actually free her from her death and give her a new lease on life. Then Ellie goes back to the farmhouse, fingerless and unable to play the guitar and everyone she ever loved is either dead or left (Dina and the baby).

I get that the world is **** and not everything is flowers and rainbows but holy **** Ellie deserved so much better. **** Abby.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing through the entire game I can safely say that this is one of the darkest and depressing games I have ever played. Let me break down my thoughts about this game in individual categories as a huge Last Of Us fan.

Graphics 10/10: I don't think anyone will argue that this game looks like a work of art. One of if not the best looking PS4 games we have ever seen. No complaints here.

Gameplay 9/10: The game runs and plays exceptionally well. I beat the game on the hardest setting and the last few hours of the game was a real test of ammo conservation and stealth. I loved the little details like each npc you kill in the game shouting their friends name after you kill them. The hand to hand combat also is superb all your punches or slicing and dicing feels extremely organic and real Naughty Dog really built on the first game and delivered in this category as well.

Story 4/10: Now this is where some controversy may set in. Let me first start off by saying I completely understand what the developers were going for and if you view this game as a tragedy you really can appreciate the twisted and dark nature this game is all about. HOWEVER with that being said this comes as the expense of the original Last Of Us cast that we have all come to know and love. Obviously (SPOILER WARNING HERE ON OUT.)

I really enjoyed the relationship between Ellie and Dina the beginning of the game plays out really well help build that relationship (THE REASON I DIDN'T LIKE THE STORY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH LGTBQ REPRESENTATION). Of course this all gets demolished by the end of the game but we will get to that later.

The problems with the game begins only a few hours in when Joel, who at this point in the story is a shell of his former self after he has told Ellie about what really happened in the end of the Last of Us 1. Along with Tommy find Abby, a unknown strange survivor we just met and rescue her. They flea back to Abby and companies hideout because of the massive hoard of infected chasing them. Once inside the hideout Tommy and Joel just willingly give up their full names and location of their hideout to these complete strangers they just met. This moment effectively makes Joel and Tommy look like total idiots and not only goes against their beliefs of not trusting anyone because (they're you know wanted men and such) but ultimately is the reason for Joels downfall as he is killed. Not only this but Joel is killed so violently that you just want to play as Ellie and rip Abbys head off.

At this point in the story it goes back to Ellie and Dina going around trying to find clues about Abbys location which I really enjoyed! It showed how Ellie and Dina has great chemistry and they complimented one another really well. Than everything goes down the drain after about the halfway point of the game.

The game completely changes focus from our two protagonists and now shifts solely on Abby yes the same Abby who viciously beat and murdered Joel one of the most loved characters in the franchise. Now had Abby's story happened prior to the events of Joels death this could of worked SO MUCH BETTER. Instead the game asks you to forgive and forget what happened to Joel because Joel killed Abbys father at the hospital (Despite Joel killing hundreds of people prior to this that one person really mattered they try and convince the player) This doesn't work at all because of how out of order the pieces are you already hate Abby and they expect you to take her side over Ellies. There is a clear favorite here in the fans eyes and it's Ellies not Abby. Did anyone actually enjoy beating Ellies face in at the theater I would love to know?

Finally the ending... oh boy. Ellie so overcome with grief and regret with the tragic loss of Joel during a time in which Ellie was just starting to forgive Joel for lying to her that she risks destroying her family she has made with Dina that she goes out on one final request for vengeance (which the game has been all about up to this point) Both Abby and Ellie have killed several other characters in the game like Jesse, Owen, Mel, Tommy (Yes I know he didn't die but he should be dead) ect. just to get to one another. Ellie leaves Dina and their home finds Abby and Lev (Lev is a great character just sadly introduced with Abby who everyone already hates) Ellie fights Abby one final time and right as she is about to kill her lets her go... Just says you know what screw it not worth it despite losing literally everything she has ever had and I do mean everything.

This kind of finale satisfies nobody. Abby sales off having lost her father, friends and lover. While Ellie loses the same than credits role. Now one can argue that the whole final act is what they intended and wanted to show how much each character lost with zero gain but IF that is the case than we needed to care about Abbys character which sadly I didn't at all. Wish I could write more but I'm out of characters =(

    - Incredible acting
    - Best graphics of the generation
    - Downtown Seattle is basically an open-world
    - Despite their best efforts, Joel & Ellie are still the best character
    - Flashbacks of Ellie & Joel are the best part of the game
    - Combat & stealth feels amazing
    - Infected are a lot scarier than Part 1
    - Outstanding depth and amount of things to customise
    - Handful of amazing action-packed and nerve-racking missions

    Negatives: | Here we go...
    - Joel would never go into a groups house just outside Jackson and give his name away knowing there are hundreds trying to hunt and kill him. Nearly 30 years in the apocalypse you’d think Tommy would be a bit smarter than to give away Jackson’s location, home to hundreds.
    - How could you kill off your most beloved character by caving his head in with a golf club? Arthur Morgan is a great example of how to kill a loved and well developed character, sacrificing himself for someone he loves. In Joel’s case that should’ve been Ellie.
    - There is little to no character development between Ellie and Dina.
    - You’re forced to play as Abby, the one who murders Joel for over half the game inan attempt to want to make you like her, I know, what the ****
    - You’re once again forced to play as Abby, but this time you have to try to kill Ellie
    - Tommy gets shot straight through that face but somehow survives
    - Jesse has such a forgettable death
    - Ellie has basically no development over the course of the game as she still wants revenge at the end.
    - So after killing hundreds and finally get to Abby (again), she ends up not killing Abby because she sees Joel, which surely would make Ellie want to kill Abby even more, but no, Abby gets to live and Joel gets his head pounded with a golf club

    Overview -
With all of its positives, I cannot give this heap of dog **** more than 2 for the incredibly disappointing story.

Was it intentional sabotage by the Dr. Uckmann himself? I don't see how else things could've turned out like this for both the characters in the game and the people working on it. I hope it's not another Star Wars scenario where people start harassing the actors who had nothing to do with the script, though. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wrote a 5000 word review, Metacritic deleted it. So here I am again with a TL;DR this time.

The whole game is a vengeance quest. ND forces us to play as the villain for almost half the game to elicit empathy for the antagonist but fails miserably mostly due to horrid writing and unlikable characters. Imagine playing as Micah in RDR2 and Rockstar expecting us to feel empathy for him by giving him a love interest and a dog. In this case, we get the daughter of random NPC that Joel killed in TLOU1, Abby, who gets her revenge (kills Joel within the first two hours of the game) and rides off into the sunset. Ellie, who has somehow not fallen into one of the many gaping plot holes in the story is now left alone sans two fingers, Dina's gone, Joel's dead. She walks off into the forest.

    The end.
2/10 - Would not play again
2 for the artists who worked on an amazing game visually - huge props and condolences to have worked with a team of writers who've butchered this franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Coming from a legitimate review standpoint this game has been atrocious to play. The story can barely progress itself and what were once fluid multifaceted characters are now cheesy 2d machines. I have never before been unable to complete a game, but now is one of those times. I made maybe 5 hours into this game before I decided I needed to take a long break from it indefinitely. One of the major issues I had with this game was the gratuitous sex scenes throughout, and what felt like Naughty Dog putting diversity into a game for sales. This game feels genuinely exploitative towards the LGBT community because it uses multiple LGBT characters as sales points and fan service. If they were to introduce an LGBT character who mas more than a flat character who's entire personality was not based on their sexuality/gender that would be great. I think diversity in games is something that needs to happen, but in this game the characters that are meant to be inclusive are more representative of a cardboard cutout than an actual inclusive character. I would highly dissuade anyone from buying this game if they were a fan of the original last of us. The plot will wear you down and feel nothing like the original game. I would not recommend this game. Expand

Now, look at the User Reviews, filled with complaints about how the story has been butchered just to fulfil some political movement agenda and killing a beloved character for nothing.

    See the difference?
No? Let me get you in on this.

The User Reviews contained people who ACTUALLY PLAYED THE FIRST GAME. It is filled with people who loved (or still loves) the dynamics and relationships between Joel and Ellie, and those who felt something when they realized that a game's story, can touch people's hearts.

TLOU2 butchered everything that TLOU has done for us. No gameplay changes, the game world is empty (although very beautiful, kudos to the designers), enemy AI is probably the dumbest you've ever seen, all in all, the game looks very dated.

Combine all of that with the fact that the story is a nonexistent mess about murder and violence, and at the end of the game, the developers took a step further and tell you 'no no no, revenge is bad, you cannot kill.'

Now, look at that 85-90-95-100 score from the Critic Reviews. Where the **** does it come from? How the **** are they even grading this game? Do they actually finish the game? This is overhyping up something for the sake of nothing but money.

This type of corporate stupidity has to be stopped. If I'm able to refund my purchase, I would do so gladly.

The main thing about this game was the plot and they destroyed it. They left the game full of flawed scripts, it was bad. Unfortunately spoiled my gameplay. More than once they forget or do not mention things about the first game to try to direct the public's view to what they like. I see it as a lazy script, which plays low to try to thrill us and, in the end, feels empty (as empty as the characters by the way).
In addition, you are forced to play with characters without charisma, in an attempt to empathize with them, which did not convince me at all. My distaste only intensified (do you really want to paint this character as a nice person after she brutally tortured someone who saved her live? Really?!).
I saw people defending history based on politics and for me the question is not this, it is bad writing, bad plot. It is sad to see how much work they had done developing this game to be wasted by bad script.
The graphics and soundtrack are beautiful, but for me beauty is only skin deep.
I am really sad to have waited seven years for this and to have spent 12.38% of my country's average salary for it.
I do not think this game deserves a zero, for all the work that have been done. But unfortunately, I can't give a higher score for such a disappointing game.

I appreciate that Naughty Dog wanted to "dare", by killing Joel, the protagonist of the first chapter, but it is the motivation that pushes Abby to kill him is really forced for me. Naughty Dog could have killed him in many other different ways.

But the thing that made me angrier than this is that after Abby tortured Joel, first shooting him with a **** shotgun in the legs, then repeatedly hitting him with a golf club, at the end of the game, Ellie FORGIVES Abby for all that that she did and lets her live! All this does not do justice to Joel who treated Ellie like a daughter! (especially seen in flashbacks during the game)

It's heartbreaking to see such a legacy be thrown away like this. You can tell the writers sat down and and really focused on characters instead of a story. They decided to write this story based around characters they really wanted to broadcast, as opposed to writing the characters that fit the story, into the story they wanted to tell. The game suffers immensely because of this and likely won't be a patch to fix it. At this point, I'm just hoping not to see a third.

Also, isn't it a bit odd reviewers could only talk about a small portion of the game? Almost like they're hiding something in the latter half? That 95 is definitely not truthful. I think the voices of the actual fan base here are a lot more important than those of reviewers who weren't even allowed a full game. This game is equivalent to being spit on and shouldn't even have the last of us title attached to it.

The graphics are pretty though.. whoopdie doo, I suppose. And the gameplay mildly expanded upon, but more or less stuck in the last gen. But in a game so heavily revered for its story, I don't think these aspects are the ones everyone is worried about meeting their expectations. The story is such a mangled mess, I can't give it anything higher than a 3. In a game so heavily dependent on story to really come together, it's like a macaroni painting without the glue.

The game play is old and boring, only slightly improved version from the previous game. If you like a tunnel games where you go from point A to point B for 30 hours with no story pay off then this game is for you, but I'd wait couple of days to get a second hand copy for cheap. If the game wasn't so much story focused then it would get higher score for me, but since it is so story focused, and the story is the selling point of the game, it can not be ignored.

    Wasted potential.

Graphics are stunning, probably one of the most beautiful games i've ever played but... Gameplay is boring and generally in games, story for me is everything and story in this game is TERRIBLE. I couldn't believe that some franchise can compete with new Star Wars saga and 8th season of Game of Thrones but this game has surpassed them twice in stupidity, plot holes and unmotivated threads.Graphics are stunning, probably one of the most beautiful games i've ever played but... The Last of Us 2 is hopeless, unpleasant and destroyed its excellent predecessor. Waste of money and loss of good humor. There is a difference between shock value and good writing, Druckman should learn this. Expand

Visually looks great but the gameplay has not improved at all and the story is absolutely terrible, contrived, forces the characters in terrible directions and to top it all off, the ending can't even commit to what should happen given the rest of the game.

Not a fun game, at all. Completely throws the narrative from the first game in the trash and tries to make you feel bad about violence in games. It looks pretty, controls badly, and the story feels fake and forced.

More precisely, he is, but after 9 hours I wanted to take a break for a week. The brain must rest from this boredom and dullness.

This was done with spite, and great story ruined by a vendetta. You do not punish art and hard work with vile politics and pandering.

A terrible way to handle a sequel. Graphics were nice, characters and story were absolute garbage. Controls felt off.

I wish this game never existed. Now that I know what happened with the characters I will never be able to look at the first game in the way I did before. Rating it 4 just because of the music and flashback scenes.
Never thought naughtydog would do something like this.

The longer i played the worse this game became for me
    The graphics are absolutely stunning
The gameplay is pretty much the same as the first game The story is probably the worst part, after the amazement of the new graphics and nostalgia of the old gameplay and characters wore off, all that was left was story that got worse over the course of the game, which really made it hard for me

By the second half of the game i felt like i needed to finish just because of the time and money i had invested in it already. Really sad to see that this is how the sequel to one of the greatest playstation games turned out

The game looks good, but, the story is just awful. It throws character development out completely. It flips off fans of the first game. A sad way to see a franchise go.

Are you **** serious? Plus, you don't even get to **** kill Abby at the end. Combat is barely an upgrade from the first game. It is utter garbage. 6 years for this **** is a disgrace. Expand

Imagine your getting ready to go on a road trip with your dad and outta nowhere ronda rousey shows up and tortures and kills your dad and jumps in the front seat and says "lets go on a adventure kid" that's pretty much the story of this game. gameplay is nothing to write home about, this is game is a resounding failure and makes me uneasy about the future of gaming.

Blatant disrespect to fans of the original. A primarily story based game with a incredibly weak story with the most pretentious ending that leaves the player feeling empty and hollow. I would think most players would agree that playing a certain character for 1/3 of the game was infuriating given the circumstances.... were the writers/director expecting us to feel any different? The player is left wanting to breeze through this section and get it over as fast as possible. Character motivations are set in stone for the majority of the game only to half halfheartedly abandon them at the last moment because "morals"... just wasn't convincing.

I'm giving a 2 because the graphics were generally great and the gameplay was top notch at certain spots. The overarching story just left such a bad taste in my mouth that I can't in good conscious give this much higher. The direction they went just wasn't it as I think many will agree with me.

I'm all for character diversity and definitely think representation is important but I suspect many will try to defend this game because it "champions" diversity and will try to downplay the fans negative reaction to this game's story direction.

Such a waste of potential. Stunning graphics, sound and acting, nice gameplay. All thrown away with an offensive story that shows no respect to the source material. This game is ruined because of poor writing, nothing else. I had hoped the leaks were somehow fake, but they are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the actual game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
