After the first game and playing as Joel through all the struggles and waiting 7 years to do it again, to not get the chance to again was a disappointment but to have his death within the first hour was even worse. Feeling emotionally flat while playing the game afterwards. Setting out as Ellie for revenge, this is a big difference to the Ellie from the first game the spark and joy is gone from her outlook on life, Rage and brutality replace them. Going through the story I enjoyed a lot of the new features, nothing better than a silencer headshot. Stalkers are a much better enemies and always felt anxious when encountering them. Exploring is great and finding all the collectibles of how people are living through the outbreak are intriguing and I do like the Dina and Ellie interactions within the open world, which when your playing day 1 in Seattle are amazing. Flashbacks with Ellie and Joel hit home just how much you miss playing as them and bring the first game vibes back. Seeing the heartbreak when Joel finally confesses what he did in the previous game and Ellie reaction and her leaving Joel. On the flip side when you flip to playing as Abby - Joel’s killer, the flashback seem to drag and this is where the game pacing lags abit. I get what naughty dog was trying to do with Abby, anyone who has had their dad killed would of course want revenge on the person. But we had already played through a 20+ hour game as Joel connected to the character waited 7 years to play as him again and to have him killed and then to play as his killer, personally not a fan and I couldn’t connect to her as a character and all of her friends are throw away characters and forgettable and I had no attachment to them at all. Maybe if this game was all around Abby and then maybe Part 3 was the Ellie/Abby face off there could’ve been abit more investment with Abby side of things. But personally I never was fully invested and was just trying to get through to where we had left Ellie. What I will say about Abby part of the game is it definitely has the bigger standout moments. The ratking boss fight in the hospital a favourite, The climb up the building and crane, dodging tommy sniper rounds, fleeing through the forest with only your melee attacks against stalkers and the fight and flee of the Scars island while burning are all standout exciting moments. Ellie has some great campaign moments too (the first encounter with the scars a personally favourite, hearing those whistles for the first time) Abby moments standout more and are more memorable which the developers maybe have Abby these better moments so people could enjoy playing as the character more. Lev I felt was thrown in to show a compassion side to Abby but this connection felt forced and didn’t really have enough time to develop a connection with them the same way Joel and Ellie in the first game. Then we play as Abby fighting Ellie, and in this part I hated it I just wanted to get through it as quickly as I could didn’t enjoy it one bit. Then we get to the cutscene and when Abby holds a knife to pregnant Dina and Ellie says she’s pregnant and Abby response is “Good” and is about to slit her throat before Lev stops her. This shows that Abby is still a monster and hasn’t change, I get she wants revenge for her friends and Owen and Ellie had killed Mel who was pregnant as well. But at least Ellie felt physical sick from her actions and was shaking, Abby was going to enjoy killing Dina, both Abby and Ellie could both be consider monsters with their brutality but at least Ellie was likeable. Then Ellie goes for revenge one last time leaving her life behind and goes through the rattlers picking up a great silenced machine gun, finds Abby tortured and has one final brutally battle against her, I personally didn’t care if Abby lived or die, I was over it the story had drained me and I was done. The first game I could pick up and replay again and again. This game I’m not sure if I could commit to playing again no matter how go the gameplay is, when the story is as depressing and unenjoyable id rather play something else for minding numbing gameplay goodness. This game is one you have to play to make up your own mind I can see why people will love it, but I’d highly recommend waiting until the price drops before committing to it, in case you end up hating it. All I can say is The last of us part 3 will be interesting if they ever make one. Expand

I have never been that frustrated from the story, demotivated and several times asking myself if I really would like to continue playing. It completely ruined my experience from the game I was hugely waiting for. It is the first game where I in some cruel way enjoyed when character I was playing died. And several times just stoped playing and waiting until her death. Definitely not going to pre-purchase any other sequel (if there is any) and will wait for user reviews first. Expand

I loved the first game with its wonderful characters and well told story, you really felt something when important characters died because they were well written and it was believable, on the other hand tlou2 says screw that it takes a whole different direction. If you truly want to play a masterpiece I suggest you skip this one and get the first game, now thats a great game to play.

In my first 9 hrs as I travel to Seattle i was so sad. I miss Joel. I dont like Dina to be with me. I want Joel. Why did you kill Joel, the main character??? My perspective at that point was really cloudy. But after finishing the whole game i saw what Naughty Dog did and it was brave, bold, and (for me) brilliant. I have never been immersed this much in a game. This was the first time that after 9 days of finishing the game i was still sad. I cant play other games. I was so depressed. This game is so powerful. Moving af.

Other factors such as gameplay, sound, visuals. Totally 10/10. There are just some things that i didnt so like for me overall the game is a 9/10.

The Last of Us 2 is one of, if not the best gaming experience I have ever had (sounds like an exaggeration but I really mean it). This game shook me to the core and left me emotionally wrecked by the time I completed the story; Naughty Dog has done a great job of getting the player invested in the game and its characters and has made a valiant effort in exploring parallel narratives that force you to empathise with both perspectives of the story so far. The gameplay, albeit very similar to the original game, has vastly improved in fluidity, animations, and does a great job of providing the player options to explore, take multiple routes, and discover the world around them in a much more natural manner (compared to the prequel). The combat is also an impressive step up from the first game; each encounter flawlessly creates an atmosphere of tension and fear that I haven't felt to such a degree in games I've played before. The stealth system has improved, the player has more freedom of movement, and weapon customizations and character upgrades allow you to choose which playstyle suits you best. Oh, and need I mention the graphics?

But more about the story - as aforementioned I thoroughly enjoyed it, it does a great job at forcing the player to reflect on their decisions and look at the conflict from various perspectives. Without spoiling too much: halfway through the game, there is a somewhat sudden shift to a parallel narrative that was taking place throughout your playthrough up till that point. This part of the game is what is a turn off for many players, as they find the jump too jarring and out of place. Although I disagree, I do see where they're coming from and do acknowledge the slight pacing issues that are a consequence of this twist. There is also a certain fight sequence right before the epilogue of the game which didn't quite sit right with me, but I can't say much without spoiling the story.

Overall, I think this game is nothing short of a masterpiece, and much like the prequel is a giant leap forward for storytelling in video games. The best advice I can give you is to go in with an open mind, and you'll certainly love it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me preface this by saying I adore the first game. Easily in my top 5 games of all time. Which probably means I'm being super harsh on this. Which I am. I loved it, but it felt like a disappointment compared to the first game. Most importantly being, I didn't end up really empathising with Abby. I purposely died as her a few times just because I care way more about Joel and Ellie. Even at the end of the game, whilst liking Abby way more than I originally did, I wanted her to die. I **** loved Joel, and to barely have him in this game sucks. Although that does mean on the rare occasions we did see him, it felt nice and emotional. I get what they were trying to do - I really do. Hey look, that **** that you hated at the start is a person too! And Joel killed her dad! Feel sorry for her! But I just couldn't. Certainly not on the level they wanted me to. In fact, I felt like pretty much every new character we met I just didn't care about. Apart from maybe Owen - I thought he was written nicely. I think the way the game is played is one of the reasons why. In the first game you're Joel and Ellie - bantering throughout. Really helped build up their relationship with fun, witty dialogue. But in this, you're mostly playing as either Ellie or Abby. There are some segments where you're with Jesse, or Dina, or Lev, but they're few and far between. The first game had dialogue that was properly funny too, and the entire game felt like whilst this was a horrible world, there were moments of beauty and hope. This is just bleak, followed by bleak. Skill Up's review compared the tone and characters to the DCU, which I totally agree with. The characters in the first game had heart and character, but in this everyone is the same and just feel a little off.

Graphics, gameplay, all top notch. Super tense, super atmospheric, and really enjoyed it. Zero complaints there, although I am surprised they teased an open world section so early on in the game only for that to be it. I feel like a semi-open world could work pretty well in TLOU if implemented right. New enemies - I get it, but it just felt like a classic sequel move. We need new **** It felt almost anti-lore in the fact we didn't see these infected in the first game, but now here they are. Probably a minor criticism there, as how else are they meant to make a sequel? I would actually say the gameplay sections felt a little too long in places. You would take out a lot of people, only for there to be even more enemies just around the corner. This meant I was a little afraid to use bullets and other consumables as I had no idea if there would be any scavenging later on. I barely used bombs and molotovs. Don't even think I used a smoke grenade once. Which leads me onto:

Pacing. It was completely **** It just felt all over the place, across the entire game. It felt really unfocused. Playing as Ellie for three days only to then have to play as Abby for the same three days, knowing you're not going to find out what happens at the theatre felt like a big **** you. I also felt that Joel dying so early on just ruined the Abby segments as, guess what, I **** hated her. Then the end. My word. I thought California was a real nice change of scenery but at this point you think the game should be over - so it went on for too long. And we meet yet another faction - the Rattlers. What was their deal - slave labour? Was that it? We'd already suddenly met the Wolves and the Scars (which felt a little tacked on for my liking) and then with what, an hour of the game left, let's bring in another. *shrug*

I think my main criticism though is that even though I wasn't overly keen on Abby or her story, it just felt like a lot of things in the story missed the mark. Ellie torturing whoever it was - didn't care for it. I was told this game was super brutal and violent but the camera is on her face the entire time. And she hits her what, three times? Big woop. I hit normal enemies more than that. The sections where you're with the dog (Alice) only to then realise you killed it - again, just didn't care. If Alice doesn't get killed, Ellie does. Again, I completely get what the goal was, it just didn't impact me in the way it should've done.

I read nothing about the game going into it but obviously had heard of the whole scary trans thing. Assumed it was Abby the entire time as she was built like a **** brick **** house (which was weird, but whatever). Obviously you learn towards the end that Lev was a wife or something - but it completely passed me by that he was a she. So no idea what the manbabies online are moaning about. If anything the game didn't talk about it enough.

So there we go. I give it a solid 8/10. I reckon if I hadn't played the first game I would like this way more.

This part has nothing to do with the first part. it's humiliating for us players because we didn't expect it like that at all. Look after playing the game at first i didn't like it so much because it killed Joel BUT after understanding the meaning of the game which is to learn to leave your past behind and its also about forgiveness and its shows that the girl who killed Joel didn't find her inner peace after killing him she found it when she saved the life of the two kids and Ellie found it when she finally let Joel rest and moved on by letting Abby go. Abby lost a lot and so did Ellie, Abby lost her father and Ellie Joel Abby lost all her friends and Ellie lost most of her friends her relationship and two of her fingers only because it took her more time to learn to forgive it is not a perfect game but it is still a masterpiece and a game that has a lot of messages coming through it Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the first game more than this one, but I still think it is a great game.

TL;DR: The game gives people a lot of reasons to hate it, but I think if you can push through the feelings some of the game events and features may spark at first, you'll end up enjoying it a lot.

Where most people hated the story, I felt the game did a good job at making me keep going. Whereas some of the characters' actions are not rational at times, they are certainly human. And I think this is what the game excels at, making the characters feel human.

I think "The Death" was a good fit to the story to remind the player of how brutal and unforgiving the Last of Us world is. Once again touching on the subject of humanity, even though gameplay may depict them as superhuman killing machines with infalible instincts, the characters are as mortal and prone to error as any other human being.

Other complaints talk about the game trying to make us see Ellie as the villain, but I never really saw it that way. Sure, she murders a lot of people, but you can clearly see her actions taking a toll on her, even though her desire for revenge keeps her moving forward. By the end of the game, you possibly do not condone of her actions, but it is easy to understand what drives them if you step out of your own shoes and into hers. You want her to be smarter and more rational, but you really can't expect her to be, given all she's been through.

Now, as for the game trying to make you see the villain as a not-so-evil person by making you play as her, I don't think that happened for me either, I found it impossible to sympathize with her, but that didn't make the game or the story less enjoyable for me. In fact, I found her gameplay so engaging, I found myself not caring who I was playing as for most of her storyline. If you are able to ignore your initial disgust from playing as the villain, you can see that this part of the game has incredible level design with a lot of good encounters (including a high-adrenaline boss fight). And even if the game does try to reduce your hatred for this character, you can choose to not do that and simply see this part of the game as the story told from the POV of the villain.

The game does drag on for a little long and at the end you find yourself feeling a bit like the characters, tired and wanting to stop, but with the need to see everything through. Which is why I appreciate the developers keeping the (in my opinion much needed) final chapter somewhat short.

Finally, as for the game pushing for a "political agenda" (not that there is anything wrong with that, in my opinion), I tend to disagree. Ellie is a lesbian (which we already knew from the DLC to the first game) and there is a transgender character. That's about it. I personally don't think it is forced or that it affects the game quality in the slightest.

One title crushed it a few years back and another title is brand new: both are made by the same company. One game had terrible reviews, the other game has sold over 2.5 million copies. What to do? I ended up buying both after wasting my money on the Last of Us Part 2.

My review: The Good; Bad and the Ugly...

The good - you can tell immediately that the characters are more agile. The graphics are amazing and the controls are very responsive: almost perfect. The people who built this game did a fantastic job in every way. You will not be disappointed by the games technical game play.

The bad - you are constantly reminded you are on a linear track and unable to jump over a two foot bush to get to a location just after climbing up and infiltrating a military installation.

While I have only begun this story, the emphasis seems mainly on human vs. human as was with the first version. So far, the infected creatures and their traits do not seem to be as daunting or scary as in the first game. So, for people who have not played the first game, you really should consider this masterpiece.

The ugly - have you ever been out with two other friends and because they romantically like each other, you feel like the third wheel? Or, have you ever been out with two friends and one of the friends likes you but the other friend is trying too hard because they either like you or the other person and are getting in the way of just having fun?

Unlike any other video game I can recall, there is so much emphasis and attention spent on the relationship between the main character and their partner that it interferes with the game play. It is so bad that at times when I need to be focused on being stealthy and hiding behind things, I cannot because the partner is interfering with my movements and affecting the outcome of hostile encounters.

With a winning story and excellent programming, this title was destroyed by someone in the marketing department who wanted to plant a flag: reflected in the negative reviews out there in the public.

Bottom line: Wait and buy this game second hand because there will be many copies available. In fact, I will be happy to sell you my copy. lol. I am just kidding.

Most of all, we are all socially distancing now and looking for things to do: Playing this game is not one of those things unless you are getting paid to play it.

    Final analysis....BORING

Garbage game by a dying studio. Too bad, I used to really LOVE Naughty Dog and Uncharted 1-3 as well as The Last of Us 1, but they're not who they used to be.

I still can't believe this is the Naughty Dog I used to love. Guess I can only say, thank you Naughty Dog for making Insomniac and Sucker Punch shine. Now they're the AAA studio and you're the C studio. Maybe your next game should be a TLOU Pinball game. You should have Anita Sharteesian "consult" for that game too, I'm sure it'll be a major win.

Because it was written by Amy Henning. I wanted another great story written by Amy Henning. Neil the cuck. Has ruined a once-great game series. The revenge story with Abby doesn't make any sense at all. The character is completely bland; plain, unrelatable and you don't care for her either. Her supposedly redemption arc she's supposed to have. Have is complete **** She basically goes around murdering people. Just because of what group they belong too. Joel was an amazing character who was broken after losing his daughter, Sarah. In the first game; who forms a fatherly bond with young Ellie. While trying to survive against the odds. he was the hero of the last game. For saving Ellies' life. After the fireflies basically trying to justify killing her and all the others also immune. saying their lives have less value in this dystopian world in order to save everyone else. Abby doesn't feel any remorse or regret for murdering people. Ellie was completely out of character and a **** to Joel over saving her life. Neil dumbed down the character's Joel and Tommy to try and make Abby look better in comparison, all the other characters are straight trash. Yeah, the visuals are great and the gameplay mechanic is still the same, with just a little something added here and there. Even, that's not enough to save this dumpster fire of a game. I hate that Naughty dog git rid of Amy Henning and let that cuck Nail ruin the story she created. I'm done with Naughty dog. False advertising that we could play as Joel and Ellie in the game. a revenge plot with no substance and completely pointless since the character. Wh0 was supposed to get her revenge, didn't get it. I'm glad I did not waste my money on this trash ass game. I watched and borrowed a copy. The characters Vara and Levi are trash as well. Poorly written and underdeveloped characters You don't care about. Neil pushing his personal politics and agenda in this game. This is a huge reason why this story is trash. As well as the whole game. Emotionless relationships between terrible characters. Meanless and Ellie ha no chemistry what so ever with Dina. Shaking my head. Don't waste your time or money on this game it isn't worth it. If you still wanna check this game out. Wait until it comes down to a bargain-bin price of $2. Because that's all this game is worth. That's just me being nice. Expand

Truly amazing and engrossing story. This world has consequences for the characters actions. Well written, interesting characters, who are the hero of their own stories, who may live long enough to see themselves become the villain. Must play, don't judge this game by what you may read. The script isn't everything, the performances add so much to this experience. Give it a go. You won't regret it.

The Last of us Part II feels like the work of an incredibly talented crew working with a very, very average captain at the helm who doesn’t like to listen to anyone and steers the ship all over the place thinking he has discovered his own personal treasure.
Does the world need another TLOU2 review? Probably not, but did the world need a sequel to what is still one of the best games of all time? It would appear that it did not either.
To give the game a zero, as so many have, is really not giving credit where credit is due. There are things to like about it; the gameplay to cutscenes are very smooth, the dodge button is a good addition, the graphics and motion capture are spectacular, and the voice acting is fantastic.
Even the worst characters are very well voice acted.
The lighting is cold and somewhat menacing, the stealth mechanics are all there from the first one and the infected are even more terrifying than before.
So with all of this good, what makes this a game many people (including this reviewer) deeply regret spending their money on?
The game takes about 20-25 hours to play through. Around a vast majority of those are unbearable. Some games require grinding or tedious activities for a reward at the end. This was just a disappointment from start to finish. The wasted potential of the team who made this game is just heart breaking.
It seemed someone forgot that games are supposed to be fun, not some kind of hate simulator, where the player and the characters involved are the target.
The story was absolutely hackneyed, even to the point where the most “shocking” scene was basically ripped right off a well-known zombie tv series / comic book. You could almost feel the conceit of the writers coming out of the screen, which if frankly something that I have personally never felt from a game before.
I did not enjoy this game, it was ugly, hateful and violent, and no where near as clever as it thought it was. This really felt like it was written by an angry teenager who despised the first game so passionately, that he wanted to tear it down and spit on its remains. The first game was about something beautiful in a cruel and bleak world. A story like that is difficult to get right but TLOU part One achieved it with flying colours. The sequel seems to have all of the artistic value of a 90s slasher or exploitation film but some kind of disaster-artist-like smugness.
Without giving anything away, someone kills someone who kills someone and then someone else goes after them. In the end there was apparently a message about breaking the cycle. The families of the five hundred anonymous henchmen who were murdered for the sake of this realisation may disagree. And that’s it, it sounds simple because it was. I understood Mulholland drive the first time I watched it, so I doubt I missed anything that was too nuanced.
So, can I respect the effort and skill that went into making this game? Absolutely.
Would I recommend it, or play it again? No, I truly would not. As with all things, games are subjective. Maybe buy it on sale if you fancy yourself a nihilist or want to wear a beret and tell people they didn’t get it because it was too profound, otherwise your time could be better spent.

Me encantó! Me hizo vibrar, gritar, llorar, perdonar, consolarme, me hizo sentir.

I thought ND gave a themselves a unique challenge of trying to humanize what seemed to us to be a monster. Thereby, making the gamer feel conflicted about his or her own feelings in regards to which of the characters are justified.. Unfortunately, they didn't execute that flawlessly, so you ended up with half baked empathy for Abby (and most people still being team Ellie). All in all, I respect a good tragedy. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I was about a fourth of the way into TLOU2, I decided to leave a review on this website. I was admittedly bothered by all the premature hate of the game, and the negative reviews bombing this site within minutes of it being released. My rating was a 10/10, and after finishing it I realize that was a mistake. I will focus mainly on the story, because that’s where most of the issues I have are at. Joel’s death had a major impact on me, my heart was racing and my hands were shaking after that scene. It felt like I was about to be taken on an emotional journey with Ellie, because as the player I could feel her anger. But to my surprise, that journey was cut short at the half way point of the game. Going back in time to play as Abby was disruptive to the flow of the story, and muddied the waters by introducing too many extra characters. It took away from what could have been longer, more expansive flashback scenes with Joel and Ellie. Contrasting her extreme, violent and vengeful present with a more relaxed past at Jackson. By the time I played through the second half of the game, I wasn’t very invested in how it all ended. It felt anticlimactic and disappointing, a mere fraction of what the story had the potential to be. Writers these days seem to be so overly obsessed with subverting expectations, that they allow it to take away from the quality of what they’re creating. It’s unfortunate that people drowned out the airwaves with hateful nonsense, because now the creators will brush off every constructive criticism that is given. Which will probably lead to the same mistakes being made when they inevitably develop TLOU3.... Expand

TLOU wasn't groundbreaking in terms of graphics or game mechanics, but the story and acting really puts some films to shame. But you get none of that here, the bond between Ellie and Joel was pushed to the back seat in this sequel as another seemingly agenda that ND felt was important was force fed to us gamers in a crude and in-your-face manner.

ND did an amazing job recreating Seattle and I give credit where credit is due; it's absolutely breathtaking and a visual treat. The motion capture was out of this world and it's the little details such as Ellie's bag and its zippers swaying as you move, the water dripping off from the point where after Ellie was soaked and every time after you visit the workbench, how you have to reload again because Ellie cleared the weapon before tinkering with it. Enemies' brain matter splattered all over the wall after a headshot and in this aspect, it was extremely well done. This was what made TLOU2 bearable for me to push till the final ending.

But all of that quickly fell apart when the number of plot holes are just staring at my face and begging for me to write this review. It's painful and what a big shame really, I bought TLOU on both the PS3 and PS4 (Remastered), completed at least 10 times and dare I might say, it's a masterpiece and one of the greatest games of my generation. But not this title they pass off as a sequel.

The story-telling was extremely disruptive. Every time the story gets deeper and you start to spot plot holes, understand these characters (and there a ton of new characters) Bam! ND throws you a flashback and you have to swing your thoughts again. It's as if every time you are getting close to a plot hole ND throws you off by making you play these flashback sequences. There simply wasn't enough time for me to relate to these characters and that was when it all start to fall apart. None of the characters are likable because ND made the pace so disruptive and one moment you are here, the next you are there.

I can forgive the lack of innovative gameplay, adding a jump and a rope swing in 2020 is like going back to 2010s and saying, "hey we have 3D models now!". Because TLOU isn't about industry changing mechanics, but the story. And oh boy, what a disaster with the story.

By now you should be aware of how we were all led to believe that things won't happen the way it would and unfortunately this was the biggest mistake of ND in TLOU2. I felt that if they really want it to happened, it should take at least 2,3 more sequels before doing so. Just because it took 7 years in the making, doesn't mean gamers will just forget what happened in TLOU. You can't just destroy something so beautifully created in TLOU in this sequel, force us to like these new characters that have no personality and in such an abrupt manner. We purchase things because we expect it to work the way we want to, not because the manufacturers have a new social agenda and want to mislead us through deception and censorship. Imagine you are at your local store looking for this brand of utensils you've heard so much about. They advertised it as long lasting, high quality and just what you'd expect from a AAA brand. You picked one up, it does looks like high quality material, you'd expect it to last and was happy with your purchase. You go home and suddenly inside the packaging the manufacturers say it's made of biodegradable material that will degrade by itself in 3 - 6 months depending on how frequently it's being used. False advertising.

However the ending was what really felt like a slap in the face for purchasing this game. It's as if ND hated this franchise and want this IP to go up in flames. It was akin to spitting on us, spitting on the franchise and giving a big **** you to all.

Note that game shops in Hong Kong and Taiwan are literally giving away TLOU2 for free if you were to purchase 3 other games. The used marketplace is literally flooded with this and stocks are stagnant.

Sorry ND, you done ****ed it up this time.

Just completely disappointed with this game. First I'll start with the pros. The visuals and voice acting are extraordinary. The negatives however far outweigh the positives. The gameplay is completely unchanged from part one which makes it feel more like a DLC than a new game. And of course there's the story and writing. What a complete and utter mess. The history is 7/10 but this does not mean that the game is beastly in other aspects.

Give this game a chance! It may not be the ending we want, but it was the most thought provoking.

Just finished it. It surpassed the first. It is a masterpiece. Level design is often akin to the genius of Mario, game mechanics are fun and well crafted, characters and story are a-plus, graphics, like the first installation, are simply gorgeous. Loved to see different cities in that universe. It’s the whole package.

Pathetic. Proves naughty dog can't make a game and cannot make a movie. I loved the story of the first game. Hated the gameplay. This is terrible gameplay bad story. What were they thinking? It looks nice and the actors are good. I'll give them 1 point for that. Ruined the series for me.

I don’t hate the storyline, but I think if they had presented it differently, I would’ve been more accepting. At first we get to play as this new character (Abby) in less than 1 hour into the gameplay, only to find out she’d kill Joel in the same first hour :)
So it doesn’t only make you hate Abby, but also yourself for playing this game. At this point most of players would feel so much hate and anger toward Abby and want to kill her. But then half wary through the game, they make you play for 10 hours as Abby to make you understand her character. All I got from that 10 hours is that Abby enjoys killing people and she’s the exact opposite of Ellie. During
Ellie’s part of gameplay, I loved Dina, but I wished that we got to see more of Tommy. They brought up Jessie which was the most unnecessary character. So in my opinion Tommy and Dina would’ve been more than enough as side characters. The only thing that kept me going was the thought that I would enjoy killing Abby, but that never happens. Leading to the worst ending ever.
My score on this game is mostly for the graphics and gameplay. It’s a shame that the storyline ruined everything...

For those of us that have finished the game, the rating should be quite obvious. This game tells a beautiful tale that even life-changing decisions come at a cost.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted this to be a masterpiece so badly, but it isn't. As many others has said, the story have major plotholes that basicly abandons the characters from the first game. gameplay is good and great, graphics is best in the industry, but the story seems forced. I am trying to play through a second time, basicly skipping every cutscene except those including Joel and Ellie together. **** I wanted this game to be a sequal to the first game, but it isn't. Too many new characters that i don't care about at all. As well as playing a character you want to kill at every opportunity for 10 hours. The game is simply not very fun to play after you have played it once. It is depressing, I have finished the first game almost 10-20 times as well as getting a platinum. I don't see myself platinuming this game in the near future. It feels like a waste of time sadly. I just hope that they don't mess up the future multiplayer.

I love the first game and wanted to love this game, but I don't... They disrespected the characters and the fans to much. The trailers were also false advertising, showing Joel alive with Ellie on her path to revenge, only to kill him off and replace him with a guy which I hardly even remember the name of.

    It should have been better.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
