    And for those claiming that the leaks ruined the game, they just failed to judge the game for what it is, and not for what surrounds it.     Anyways, the game itself is just fantastic. It exceeds amazingly in showing us how biased we can all be in terms of loving a character. It shows us what Joel's actions in the first game meant in a living and organic world. It puts us on perspective for the consequences of those terrible things we helped in doing on the first game.
    Granted, the story is not at all an easy pill to swallow, and it requires and open mind to understand the point and meaning behind it all. Overall, Naughty Dog accomplished what no other game, movie or show has made me feel about a story, and that's what's unique and special about this game, and why it truly deserves the title of masterpiece despite all the undeserved "leak rage " and unfair reviews.    … Expand

    Es un juego al que merece la pena jugar, y que una vez eliminadas ciertas barreras existentes en la sociedad contemporánea es muy disfrutable. Ahora bien, no es una secuela fácil, ni mucho menos complaciente con los fans, y hay que estar abierto a su dureza argumental y a las situaciones a las que nos somete como protagonistas de la misma.

    The storyline spent more time debating the morality of violence then it did the morality of homosexuality. This game is barely more than anything but a virtue signal. The only game I have ever played where I actively attempted to get my money back. Part 1 made me feel so attached to both Joel and Ellie. It was writing (acting and animating) at its best.     From the spoilers I saw through twitter prior to release, I was a bit hesitant to buy the game. I decided to preorder anyway since I loved the first and I’m so glad I did. Please take the criticism circling around the game with a grain of salt and play it yourself. If you actually play the full game and let the story develop along with gameplay, you’re in for a great ride.     First of all i am not big fan of TLOU 1 - i played it on release and thought that was pretty good game - it had great graphics, pretty innovative gameplay and story was gripping but i wasn't one of those people who was waiting for sequel for 7 years . About new game - it is pretty good.     Graphics and details in this game really gorgeous. Facial animation of characters is great and voice acting - no matter what you think about story you will believe actors at the very least. Sound design is awesome too - killing sounds are so real it is horrifying and ambient is keeping you focused and in suspense. Gameplay i liked too - i enjoy stealth and on survival you really have to scavenge and be stealthy - though it is not so innovative as it was in first game, it is basically polished version of it with some new mechanics. Violence in this game - for better or worse - is over the top. I actually liked that part because postapocalyptic world should be violent but for some people it can be too much. Only problem with gameplay part for me was that it is really drags. It is simply too long and (at least on survival) no matter how i liked it i got tired of it .
    Now to story - it is decent. The main fault of it that it is trying too hard to push author's idea into your head. That is why sometimes story feels too far-fetched. Story in good movie or game should be first of all immersive - you have to believe in what is happening in it, believe in characters' actions, but here i didn't believe in their motivation at all. Everything else - sound, graphics, acting, etc - very immersive, but main caharacters are hollow and their actions are pretty stupid sometimes. It is especially wierd because characters were actually best part of TLOU 1. Story itself is just a vengeance story nothing more nothing less. In the end story is worst part of this game - most part of it actually feels like a filler made to fill gaps in long gameplay and to push the main idea that vengeance is bad.
    All in all it is pretty good game - if you like survival, postapocalypse, great physics, graphics and sound you will have lots of fun. If you are going for the story and characters it is probably not the best choice.    … Expand

I won't go on too much, as there are so many youtube videos that cover the whole awful thing. I will never be playing this game again.     A colossal disappointment of unimaginative story telling that attempts to explore the consequences of anger/revenge at the kindergarten intellectual level while using x-rated violence and gore. I’ve honestly never been more insulted by the in game narrative choices made on my behalf. There are humans on this planet that behave like the characters in this game

How can you spend 6 years making a game and you don’t realize that you’re making an awful story. 4 people write this story. 4. What a joke. A 5 year old would have wrote a better story. First, you kill Joel, the most likeable character of TLOU1. Then they make us play with her killer, and not only that but they try to make us sympathize with her. What the hell were they thinking? Like no one cares about her, and her “redemption” story. Abby’s character is poorly written too like the whole game. I’ve never seen a person change her whole mindset in 48 hours. It’s unbelievably poor. Cheap and lazy writing.

    Then...none of the characters are likeable, not a single one. The only likeable left was Tommy and they didn’t give the importance that he deserved, and then at the end of the story he just disappears like he was no one.

    The new characters and their sub-stories are really boring and they’re just an excuse to make the game longer. The ending is one of the worst endings I’ve seen in my life. The whole story never makes sense, like Abby and Ellie kill a bunch of people that have nothing to do with them but when they can kill each other to get their “revenges”, all of a sudden they get all pacifist and let each other live. It’s not the story about revenge or what? What kind of **** “revenge” is that?

    What bothers me the most is people trying to bring deep thoughs or get into the psychology of the characters to justify that the story is good. The story is anything but deep. It’s a plain story that’s been told many times before, but very poorly executed. Go play GTAIV and you will see what a good revenge game is.

    A story that is not believable within the game's own logic will never be a good story. TLOU2 has a lousy story that is filled with bad decisions and executions. I give a 1 out of 10 to the story. Despite all the love I have for the first game, this one seems like it’s not a sequel at any time and is an insult to the original story.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a monumental achievement in the technical sense. This level of polish really defines the world we left on an impactful moment 7 years ago. The detail is astounding and exploring Seattle was breathtaking in the opening hours of the game. I'm just sad that Naughty Dog didn't run with this structure and allowed you to explore more and let the player decide when to move towards those story beat areas, and move the chains forward in the narrative.

    Gameplay was expanded upon offering a nice mix of action/stealth/ and exploration. I just wish they had incorporated more of the grappling hook or other mechanics to add more diversity in the exploration. I loved the upgrade system and how the guns changed as you swapped stocks or other parts over time. The weapons felt weighty and I enjoyed how Abby and Ellie played very differently. Ellie leaning more into the stealth with her switchblade and Abby be more cable physically.

    Unfortunately, the narrative falls short and you're never given much reason to care for many of the new characters with a few exceptions like Owen and Jesse. While Owen may not be a fan favorite I felt his struggles and inner turmoil made him one of the few characters and in spite of some rather poor love life choices he felt the most real of the group from Seattle at least to me.

    Meanwhile, being one-half of our protagonists, Abby never really shined for me. I felt her portion of the narrative could have been cleaner and first impressions are hard to overcome. After Joel saving her, she never really took the time to rethink her decision nor reconsider what she was doing as Ellie screamed and pleaded for her to stop. Only after it was done did she begin to see her actions in a new light and began trying to balance her ledger with a little bit of good. Overall, I always felt that Joel carried the weight/burden of his prior actions - I just never felt Abby fully understood what she did or really regretted what she gave up in pursuit of revenge, She didn't understand the psychological harm she inflicted on Ellie nor did she ever ask for forgiveness which I felt could have been impactful as she loaded into the boat with Lev. It was left up to Ellie to just let go of hate for someone who really didn't seem to care how she harmed Ellie at the start of their journey.

    This arc could have been structurally cleaner and spending time with the gang from Seattle would have made their mission more understandable or relatable. I do applaud Naughty Dog for taking a risky narrative but the gamble just doesn't pay off in my opinion. Abby, Mel, and more could have been so much more. At the end of it all, it didn't teach me any new lessons that I haven't already considered or learned, it just felt for nothing.

    In addition, the narrative felt padded as that a natural ending point would have been the tense showdown at the theatre but the last section of Santa Barbara felt unneeded.

    Overall, Naughty Dog swung for the moon but still managed to land among the stars. The game is beautiful, the gameplay was expanded, but the narrative left me wanting and while it may connect with some it just wasn't for me. Unfortunately, with such a heavily story-driven game most of the points should come from the narrative regardless of technical achievements. Thus I have to land on a 5 out of 10.    … Expand

    While it took me a while to finish it (July 14), I haven't read or watched any reviews and leaked information about the game prior to my first playthrough. Though I watched some trailers.

    Starting with Graphics and Gameplay.
    I can't say much about it but, if Naughty Dog made their best looking game, then this is it.
    Every detail crafted in this game is high quality. The attention to detail for every interaction
    is also marvelous. The animations and motion capture are realistic.

    Music is still a very strong point in this game. It adds to the immersion and emotion of the game.
    Sound effects are also very good, and seemed like true-to-life.

    Can't say much about the story. After watching that most talked about scene, the game became predictable and boring. As you progress, this game is like doing the opposite what made the first game so compelling, so likable with characters who are relatable and interesting that anyone can feel like they're real people.
    Throughout the game, it became unexciting and depressing. Can't say much about how violence was being depicted on this game. There are times that certain points in the game should have been changed, but for the shock factor, it made through the final product.
    This game felt like Naughty Dog's approach about revenge is to disassociate the fans from the first game and forget about it.
    There were also scenes that I think should have been written better to have a better closure to plot points left behind from the first game and some scenes that i felt placed wrongly in the game. Some of these scenes were a flashback, that felt like telling a story too late.

    As I close my experience with the game, it is unfair to not share one part I really liked, and it was the "Birthday Gift" sequence. It reminded me of what TLOU is all about.    … Expand

    Although the narrative had its weaker moments, the ending had me breathless. Naughty Dog is a master of storytelling and pacing, and this game has only confirmed it, in par with beautiful visuals, stunning attention to details and improved gameplay mechanics.

The story is thought provoking in a way that made me uncomfortable - it threw context at all that violence, made me witness the consequences of my actions, ushered in the feels like never before. It's pretty obvious why a lot of people are upset, they were expecting a video game and Naughty Dog gave them 40 hour lesson about growing up. This might seem a bit extreme to some but I liked Abby, she was a flawed, vulnerable, hard hitting (literally and figuratively), masterstroke of a character, just like Ellie - two sides of the same coin. I'd go as far as to say Abby seemed to be a better crafted character than Ellie. Enough of the character dissection - a video game has me thinking about characters and their personalities - Naughty Dog, you guys are awesome!

    To anyone reading this review - Support the developer, we need more games like this! The attention to detail, the soundtrack, the storytelling and the gameplay! oh my god we need more games like this! Buy this game and play the whole thing - you will not regret it. Even if you don't like the story go ahead and treat yourself to the gameplay, the graphics, and the soundtrack - its a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Game on my friends! Game on!

That being said, I tried to keep an open mind. When I got to the Abby part of the game I began her journey being like "This is okay, but whatever." By the end of her journey, however, I felt like they had fleshed out a character that I could feel and sympathize with and I found her section actually really interesting. Ending the game on Ellie is incredible, however, and the final scenes of the game are some of the most moving. If you have not played it the whole way through or kinda gave up on Abby, give it a fair shot and play to the end. At least to see how you feel.… Expand

    Work of art, 10/10. The story and perception of justice landed so well that I dont understand the whole backlash thing. Worth every minute of my life. First game I cried by the end. Masterpience.

Es impresionante lo que se logro con esta entrega ya que mejora y actualiza lo que fue el primer titulo. todo el aspecto visual es simplemente vello con acabados realistas no solo en lo que es la naturaleza dominando el mundo si no también en los enemigos y personajes. El gameplay en muchos aspectos lo considero innovador ya que se modifico la forma de combate ante algún enemigo dándole un toque muy realista. Lo que se hizo en esta segunda entrega fue contar una historia algo diferente que personalmente me gusto ya que lo veo como un intento de cambio que para mi funciono. como en este mundo no todo puede ser perfecto por que nada lo es, the last of us parte 2 no es la excepción. mas de una vez me tope con errores en diferentes momentos del juego pero hubo uno en particular que me hizo saltar de la silla: En cierto punto del juego podía salirme del mapa. es el único error que considero que es urgentemente necesaria su corrección ya que producirlo fue demasiado fácil y esta a simple vista del jugador, aclaro que no arruino mi experiencia para seguir en la historia. otro aspecto que quiero mencionar es el de la historia. me abría gustado que Elli hubiese tenido mucho mas protagonismo en general, espere con muchas ansias el enfrentamiento de Elli contra el nuevo tipo de infectado ¨"Rey rata" que des afortunadamente nunca llego. ya que en su lugar fue Abby visto desde su perspectiva en la historia. Abby is so unlikeable and should be the villain because of that. Nobody wants to play as abby. The first 10 hours were great but playing as Abby is horrible. Owen is boring, Mel is as annoying as Abby. U should play the full game as Ellie and not be expected to like Abby despite her killing Joel. Tommy barely features and Jessie, the only good new character is killed by Abby for no reason. I think this game is a 6/10 but we can’t let the writers think that this story is actually good. I wouldn’t have minded the story if Abby died at the end but of course she didn't because Abby is perfect and Ellie is trash.This game could’ve have been incredible but the morale of the story is that violence is wrong and Ellie is bad despite abby trying to kill every main character.… Expand

    Throughout my play through of LoU Part 2, I genuinely couldn't understand why it had such a low user score - the game plays like a dream, visually stunning, technically amazing and the story is incredible if not horribly bleak at times.

    So with these points in mind... here's what I demised.

    First Point, Gameplay.
    Not straying far (if at all) from what made the first game so great to play, all the mechanics from the predecessor are back. Crafting, pill supplements, fluid stealth or gunfights depending on your play style, listen mode... all the familiar traits are back which if anything have been tightened up for an even smoother ride. There aren't too many new elements that have been introduced and resources are once again pretty scarce, so exploration and using your findings sparingly is key, but having played the first one, you'll soon get back into the scavenger mindset.

    Speaking of exploration; this is more of a big deal in Part 2. Whilst it's not an open world game, the sections are HUGE. You will need multiple play throughs to see everything, and having gone over every section as finely as I possibly could, I still found myself missing treasures, artefacts and who knows what else.

    Combat and general gameplay is once again airtight. There are no loading screens, lag or drops in frame rate making the whole campaign very fluid. There a couple of bugs that have worked their way in, but these are few and far between which don't generally interfere with the experience too much, but there were a couple of moments where it killed the illusion for me slightly because when they do happen... they are noticeable.
    There are also many great cinematic chase sequences along with seriously intense fights - my heart was racing on numerous occasions from pure adrenaline.

    Seriously though... the fights are something else.
    The first game had its fair share of balls to the wall conflicts, but Part 2 expands on this hugely. Every NPC has a name, making it all the more guilt ridden when you hear one of their friends crying out in despair after you mindlessly pop a bullet through their head, or worst yet end up killing a dog when it's them or you. At the start I thought this was a nice touch and would maybe make you think a little bit more about mindless violence.
    However, it's later in the story when you truly see the consequences of your violent actions that make you question yourself and everything you have been through up until this point in the game. More on this further down.

    Second point, Visuals.
    Not much to say here aside from the LoU's game engine really gives it everything it's got to deliver a visually breathtaking world.
    Starting off in the beautiful sunset overlooking Jackson, painting everything in luminous golds and oranges, all the way through blinding snow storms, rainy and flooded cities to fires raging through a settlement - all the environments are painted with glistening detail. Two of the most impressive elements are the shadows realistically given off by your flashlight, and the effects of water that convincingly soaks as well as darkens everything it touches.
    They also didn't spare any detail on the grimmer side of the LoU world either just to note - if you shoot someone through the head even with the "weakest" gun in your inventory, it's going to leave a realistic chunky mess accompanied by convincing audio to keep you battling your lunch down.

    Now, the story...
    Now, from what I have seen in other reviews, this is what seems to upset so many people. I'll try to avoid too many spoilers!
    The story in a couple of words is incredibly intense, and at times very bleak. The story truly expands on Ellie as a character and we see a whole new form of her - blinded by pure rage and the promise of revenge, you see her inflicting acts of violence on a whole new level to what we have previously seen.
    The genius of this game though lies in the consequences of these actions. Unlike any other game I have seen, you truly see the impact of what bloodlust and revenge leads to - pain and torment. When the game switches in the second half to Abby, you end up understanding her and her companions more, getting attached and then maybe even siding with her despite the awful introduction.
    No other video game has put you in the shoes of the "antagonist" in this way, and I can only say it truly is very important that a game has finally done something like this - we are saturated with violence in video games, and in a way it can make us desensitised to it. Last Of Us Part 2 flips this round and makes you get attaches to these people you are set out to kill, and in the end makes you feel genuinely uncomfortable for having to carry out Ellie's actions.
    Basically, this is a game that really makes you think. It is depressing at times, but this is pretty real depiction of what would happen were the world to fall to ruin like this.    … Expand

I ended up finishing it with the clock at 32 hours so I must have been one of the slower people to complete it.     For a game that focuses on narrative... it tanked. They jumbled the characters and the narrative so much to where the plot just became predictable and boring. I was a huge Ellie fan from the 1st game and the DLC. They ruined her character. And for half the game you have play as Abby whom I didn't want to play as because she was a dull character compared to Joel and Ellie. I almost gave it a 6 here, but I realized I'm never going to play this game again, but I'm not going to bomb the review of the game either because it was a horrible game. I felt that there were some pacing issues and the ending (s) seemed to go on forever like Lord of the Rings... But it was satisfying once I got there for real. The art in this game is unmatched. Really great job by the team. I really felt for the characters as well. The writing was very well done. I didn't want to like Abby at all, but in the end I was glad they went that route and had you see everything from her perspective. The multiple flashbacks were a little confusing but they tied it up well.… Expand

Don't listen to the haters. while i do believe that some people are disappointed in the game most of the bad reviews came once the fan review was enabled. Anyway yes it is a long game and can be a drag in some parts but you will easily lose yourself in the game. A worthy successor to a decade-defining game.

I loved TLOU and the Left Behind DLC, basically because they combined great graphics, sound and gameplay with compelling storylines. The good first: TLOU2 is hands down the best looking and sounding game on PS4. Props to those guys for raising the bar to aIt's really sad that such a great experience gets totally ruined by the worst kind of storytelling I've ever seen for a A+ game. I loved TLOU and the Left Behind DLC, basically because they combined great graphics, sound and gameplay with compelling storylines. The good first: TLOU2 is hands down the best looking and sounding game on PS4. Props to those guys for raising the bar to a standard that won't be met again until the PS5. There's great action scenes in TLOU2: riding and shooting, chilling boss encounters and creepily dark rooms full of clickers etc. I would say 10/10 for Graphics and sound and a solid 8 for gameplay, which is basically the same as in TLOU part 1. But the story is just such a jumbled mess. Characters making decisions that are completely out of character, new characters you don't give a **** about, an unnecessarily jumbled timeline with needless flashbacks and cutscenes that just seem to drag on forever (and you actually have to click/walk through to add to the tedium). To top it all off, an underlying message of "Revenge is bad, nobody's really good" that is layered onto it so thickly throughout the game, like the cheap cheese on a Subway sandwich. Likewise: it nastily clings to your palate and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. When you finally come to the (equally illogical) ending of it all, you just don't give a **** anymore about any of the characters. This franchise is ruined by the ridiculous messaging so obviously pushed by the lead storyteller. And I'm not talking about LGBT representation, something most fans like me are completely cool with and was masterfully done in the Left Behind DLC. I'm talking about the typical post-modern crap: the "lol-nothing-matters, everything is morally gray, there is no good and bad" trope that pervades the writing and makes it indeed impossible to feel anything real for any of the characters, because they act like most people would never do, even under these stressful circumstances. At the end of it all, I was just left with the biggest "Meh" ever and was glad that I didn't have to go though endless cutscenes and backstory on characters I don't give a ish about anymore. Druckmann really needs to take the L on ruining a great franchise. If ever there is a Part 3, I hope the whole writing/storyboard team that did this gets the boot first. He's now accusing everyone critical of the abysmal story as being bigots etc., where apart from the usual pathetic trolls, most ppl are just genuinely pissed about a story with truck-sized plotholes and him pissing over every character from the original franchise. Sorry about the review turning into a rant, but I've looked forward to this game so much and like many, had the experience completely ruined by this lame story. So 0/0 for the story and a big FU for Druckmann for ruining what should've been game of the year for me.… Expand

    There are no reason in such violence killing Joel. Abby's father totally deserves his death, cause if you are ready to take someone's dauther life without asking, be ready to die from father's hand. The reason why I've droped the game is that gamedevs force me to play for f*cking **** person for 13 hours without any reason. I don't care at all what life she had after/before father's death. If only author would have some imagination and probably take and spend some more time to think about plot, it could be 10/10 game. (Some ideas, imagine if Joel killed her siblings or parents that time, when he was smuggler. For example, Joel brings some medicine and Abby's father stole it for Abby's mother to heal, but Joel had to bring it back otherwise he might be dead and thats is what I've expected! 2 sides of dying world, where people live with only one rule "kill or die" and there are no bad or good, everybody just want to survive.     The game is easily one of the best in recent years. Technically it feels almost without equal. People need to remember that this is a post-apoclypse world, brutality is around every corner and sentiment counts for nothing. The decision to play half the game as Abby, while jarring is actually enjoyable IMO. I enjoyed Abby and Owens complicated relationship and Lev and Yara were bothThe game is easily one of the best in recent years. Technically it feels almost without equal. People need to remember that this is a post-apoclypse world, brutality is around every corner and sentiment counts for nothing. The decision to play half the game as Abby, while jarring is actually enjoyable IMO. I enjoyed Abby and Owens complicated relationship and Lev and Yara were both fantastic. The ending, while hardly uplifting is fitting. That being said the storytelling is not as well done as the original which was nigh on perfection. I would actually give this game 9/10. But seeing as hardly anyone will even read what i am writing here and all the truly ridiculous 0/10 scores i am giving this 10/10 to do my bit to get the meta score up. Anyone giving this game less than 7/10 is just not being truthful IMO.… Expand

    When I finished this game I decided that it is my favorite linear story driven game for the time being. I love every aspect of it and really glad that it managed to make me love it more that the first game.

    Pésima historia pero la jugabilidad esta fenomenal. Es un juego que solo lo jugaria a lo mucho 2 o 3 veces no más a diferencia del primero que lo puedo jugar mil veces y no me canso. This game is like a real horror which hold you in fear from first minute till you piss all water and after it, with heavy emotions. Also it broke your mind with its story turns. I was scared in hospital moment and cryed like a baby asked to take me home to my mom. The game is amazing with its game play and fightings, but too much cutscenes would like to play more not to look movies whole game.
    Such amazing grey moral idea but i think more better will be to realize it in other game.
    I was very upset to see Ellies sexual contact with her friend. Im not homophobic but this scene with kisses looks ugly, not romantic. Its like a porn... No needed this in games industry also i dont like to see hetero kisses in games it looks ugly too maybe more. This LGBT idea was realized very rough. And as we can see many people dont like LGBT more and more because of it.
    Anyway the game looks beautiful, with its stupid story turns and now smart Ellie.
    I played it for 3 times already, now im playing 4th time abd skipping most of story cutscenes.
    After this part i think the story of this game is over.
    Sad, broken and alone Ellie. Survived and thankful Abby.
    I love this game to play. Hope next ND projects will be better and better.

    I thoroughly enjoyed the last of us 2. I felt extremely happy and sad for both parties in the game, and wanted both to prosper. However there resentment towards each other completely consumes them and because of this both parties lose everything except for their lives. The ending is kind of flat and I feel like a certain flashback should’ve been at the beginning of the game. Overall a 8/10I thoroughly enjoyed the last of us 2. Many characters act just dumb, ignoring EVERYTHING we saw on Part I, and all for a weak plot and for trying to show something we already knew about, that "revenge is bad". I never felt empathetic during my time playing as abby, but i still thought the ending was phenomenal. If ellie were to kill abby she would have been no better than abby was. Lev would feel the same thing ellie did when joel died. Truly the best narrative ever in a game… Expand
