In terms of mechanics and gameplay the game is on point, there was no other parameter of gameplay to explore, its perfect. In terms of story the Naughty Dog was capable to kill one of the most important characters to gaming community, that shows how courageous naughty dog is, and the fact that most of the users critiquice the game only for killing that character shows how selfish the users are, and how our present society cant deal with death and cant see the both sides of the story , even threatening to death the voice actor of Abby and her child's.
    This game is perfect.
The problem with this game is that this game isnt made for ignorants, and Naughty Dog is too ahead of time.

There's a lot to say about this game. It pushed, pulled, and tore me in so many more directions than I could've anticipated. By the end of the game I felt just like the characters, I was exhausted and ready for it be over. I had so many different emotions during my playthrough all the way through the end to the credits where I tried taking time to reflect on them. I grew tired of the running, tired of the fighting, tired of the cat and mouse games and wanted it to end, and yet one simple question could answer how I felt. Was it worth the play? YES. The team that made this game played me like a fiddle, and I went along willingly. It was only until I got to the end that I realized this. They sucked me in, and I'm glad they did. Expand

Wouldn't change a thing! This is one of those rare masterpieces that take days to digest and dissect after finishing the story. It definitely utilize the potential of the PS4, it plays and looks fantastic! But the journey you embark on together with Ellie is what will leave a mark. As much (if not more) as part 1 did!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a massive fan of the first part of The Last of Us, I waited eagerly for part two and subsequently for the answers to questions that arose from the first games events.
This game is a brutal tale of revenge, of rage and sorrow. It was emotionally taxing for me to play at times. I was so invested in the plot and every character, the demons that possessed them and their fight for survival both physically and spiritually. I really enjoyed playing from the perspective of Abby and finding out who she is and her motivations as the catalyst for The Last of Us part 2s whole driving plot ie Ellies revenge. I grew to love her just as I did Ellie. And found myself in the last moments of the gaming wishing no harm to come to either of them. I rooted for her and Lev to find the Fireflies and live happily. For Ellie, Dina and little Potato, I wanted a bright and positive future. I could barely bring myself to control Ellie in the last fight with an emaciated, sun blistered Abby...
The world of the Last of Us is beautiful and truly immersive. I relished every inch of exploration of a Seattle that has succumbed to Nature all its greenery and wildlife and of course the very nature of the Cordyceps Brain Infection virus.
The performances from each actor were amazing. They were real as far as I was concerned while playing. The Gameplay itself was fun and challenging and also quite satisfying. I did not willingly kill one dog! (sorry Alice

Their was a few story choices I didn’t agree with and the game can be kind of slow at times, but when I look back I still enjoyed the hell out of this game.

It has the best graphics for a game on the PS4, the sound design is fantastic, the musical score enhances each scene and encounter, with fun gameplay. The story, although does not compare to the first game, it does deliver a emotional story even through again, I may not agree with some of the directions the game takes. The story does bring up interesting themes and philosophies that made me and my Girlfriend talked about, way after the credits had rolled.

All an all I had a great experience playing this game and one that I will remember.

PS4’s swan song and one of the best games ever made IMO. The atmosphere, tension, narrative and attention to detail is one that is rarely seen in video games. I can understand that some story points might not resonate with everyone but I thought it was amazing. Can’t wait to play this on 4K (hopefully 60 fps) on the PS5. Thank you Naughty Dog.

But one.of the deaths caused by Joe on the first game did always strike me as very absurd and gratuitous, something unnecessary that harmed humanity more than getting Ellie out of the building. This didn't made me dislike Joe, but made me question his decisions. Having this decision to bear such dramatic consequences on the second game was one of the marks that made LOU2 a more mature and deep game than the first one. The first was like a road movie with less definite villains, the second like a revenge movie with hateful villains. LOU2 made the players understand that everybody had unacceptable losses in a destroyed world with a broken society where the strongest and first to attack had, most of the times, higher chances to keep on going with their lives. In the end, Joe didn't have to die, but also didn't have to kill a skilled doctor in a world without even unskilled doctors to begin with. That doctor could still work on a cure without Ellie, and no revenge would be needed, and no new revenge would come after the first. But, then, we wouldn't have a game to play and talk about. In the end, LOU2 is mature, have an engaging story, and characters that you first have to make an effort not to hate, then you learn to forgive when you empathize with their losses, and then you learn to care about and root for them. On both sides. Not everything is perfect, of course, but the game didn't deserve the review bombing it took. I bought it on pre-sale, something that I rarely do, and probably got the best value I had from a pre-sale game in my entire run with the PS4 and Xbox, since I have both platforms. Highly recommended a completely enjoyable is you're willing to play it with maturity and empathy for all characters. Expand

While the only problem on a practical level is that of be a little pulled for long in the middle of the story, but both of this problems, in relation to what the game is in all the other aspects, are not sufficient to lower the grade even of a single unit from 10. In fact this game is perfect from every other point of view: storyline, characters development, GRAPHIC (that probably will be hard to overtake even during the next gen), settings, and I could go on and on. Concluding I want to say that even if this game does not liked you, you cannot give it less then 7/8, even just for the technical sector. So I hope that all those zeroes I saw with horror were made by mindless people who were just angry because their favorite character is died. but this is not a smart reason to give zero to a game of 10. You’re just an idiot. Last thing I want to say thank you to noughty dog also and above all for the courage they took making this game knowing that only if you are clever, you can appreciate this immense work, and most of all knowing from the start that most of the people who would play it then are still very stupid, having however continued the making of the game and thank god I loved it, maybe even more than the last of us 1. It was incredible, even after being spoiled a couple things prior playing. Whether you like it or not, this game will be remembered for a long time.

Perfect mix of story and excitement! The twists and turns will keep you engaged. The battles, while frequent, do not feel repetitive and are short enough to still seem interesting.

I enjoyed this game, from the beautiful world to the intense and brutal fights. This game captures you completely and keeps you playing. Its one of the greats. Its a sad and gut punching story. And obviously not for anyone who worships Disney endings. But a great story at that.

As a fan of the original, I am very much liking this one as well. Everything I loved about the first game is present here. These are some of the most beautiful, most detailed environments I’ve ever seen in a video game. The performance capture and writing is excellent, and the story swings between brutal lows and genuinely sweet highs.

I was so emotionally taxed when they killed off a main character, well one of THE main characters from the first game and in such a brutal way. But retrospectively that is what I like about the game. It makes you truly appreciate the story and the relationships the characters build. You want to keep playing to know what happens. You get to understand and learn why Abby and Ellie are who they are and do what they do. The game offers such a robust and broad gaming style that I found it enjoyable getting to experience the Last Of Us universe outside the world of just Ellie and Joel. I will miss Joel, but have a bittersweet appreciation for what the storytellers were trying to do for Ellie. Expand

Amazing game. One of the best PS4 exclusive. TLOU-2 doesn't deserve such hatred. Even if you do not like the story for some reason, then at least for the graphics, gameplay and attention to detail at least you can put a score of 7-8. For me, it's 10 out of 10.

The best games I've played for years for two main reasons.

Firstly, the story is deep and complex and draws you in, making you feel emotions and develop opinions, only to completely change your mind. The way that the story twists and turns as well as the topics covered, really helps make the story feel real. Secondly, the game mechanics are amazing, and even develop throughout the game.

Secondly, the game mechanics are amazing, and even develop throughout the game. The way sound echoes in different environments, ice cracks when you walk across it and how snow falls from the trees as you brush past them results in one of the most immersive game experiences I've ever had (I recommend playing with headphones). The puzzle based mechanics are also fantastic, but don't get overused, for example, early in the game they introduce a cable puzzle (with great rope physics), but this is only used a few times, so if doesn't get boring and throughout the game more of these kind of mechanics are introduced.

I very rarely play games not than one, but I'm already thinking about another playthrough if this excellent game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this game with the expectation that Ellie would find out what Joel did. I also expected that someone would kill Joel, though not as early as it happens. So I started off hating Abby and ready to kill her as soon as the game would allow.

But then it makes you play as her and I swear I was so mad at first because I didn't want to like her and her friends. She grew on me a little, especially with how she handled the kids, and I adored Manny and felt so bad for Abby's treatment of Owen. These characters were very well fleshed out.

The came could have ended with Ellie and Dina on the farm, but the actual ending resonated in a way that I think is important for story-telling. Life isn't all happy endings. Ellie was out for vengeance and in the end lost more than she gained. But she also learned to forgive herself and to forgive Joel, something that she wasn't given enough time to do when he was alive. It wasn't what I expected to happen in the end, but I'm glad for it.

Gameplay wise: The bow was a ton of fun to use. I wished for more arrows all the time (especially with Abby's crossbow). I played on Easy so I cannot comment on enemy AI as they totally should have seen me many times and only just sort of saw me before I hit to stealth kill them. Thank god for Ellie's knife because shivs were the worst in the first game. The enemies all having names was a nice touch.

I liked the open world type area of Seattle a lot and I actually wish we had another section like that (maybe in Santa Barbara to get us a little more ingratiated with the Rattlers as that part did feel a little rushed and it was weird introducing a new faction so late in the game).

I think the game did a good job of building up things like the war between the Seraphites and the Wolves and I can understand where some people may have not liked the lack of a payoff, but I think that's what makes it brilliant. Ellie and Abby don't just set aside their differences to team up and take down Issac, who's gone mad with power. They stay selfish and they get out. Abby takes Lev and gets out. Ellie is defeated by Abby and leaves. The two factions are left to deal with themselves. They don't matter to Ellie, who's not even from around Seattle, has no stake in the game, and isn't a super hero. They don't matter to Abby, who's only friends in the group are dead, who feels the need to protect Lev, and who ultimately wants to find the Fireflies again since her one mission in life, get revenge on Joel, has been dealt with already.
Could the two groups have learned to put aside their differences and work together? Who are the Elders who take child wives and clearly twisted the original words of the Prophet to suit themselves? What would happen to the WLF now that Issac is dead?
Having answers to these questions would be nice for an audience, but they don't really effect our main characters anymore. I would love some side novels about these things. That would be cool.

I will definitely be playing a second time and getting the Platinum for the game because it is a game worth experiencing again.

The story...well there's a lot of room for improvement, even if just by changing the order or some events would have made things better, the killing of joel right at the beginning of the game seems to be the reasoning for hate and anger, i get it, i also didnt want to play as the character who just killed my favorite character in the story. But that doesn't make it a bad game. Ive played through the story twice already and im almost finished platinum trophy. While theres a few thing that should have been changed, the gameplay along with storytelling is not horrible. Its worth the purchase to play. Dont listen to the blind hate. Games like this are to tell a story, not appeal to your personal wants. It does a good job of continuing from the 1st game, even if it makes you angry. From a gameplay standpoint Last of Us 2 is business as usual for Naughty dog. There's been some deepening of the core loop of combat/stealth/scavenge as well as some tightening of the controls. However there's nothing groundbreaking from a mechanical standpoint, it all functions as you'd expect (for better and worse).

Where this game earns it's rating is in it's presentation and narrative. This is by far one of the most impressive games I've played when it comes to visual/audio design, this goes from environmental design all the way through to voice acting and foley work. There are some truly jaw dropping moments of beauty (and horror) throughout this game and i can't find any major fault with the game on this front.

However where this game will sink or swim is in it's narrative. There's no question it's a divisive story and a lot of your reception to the game will depend on you're ability to "roll with the punches" of the story until it's conclusion. It's not perfect, the pacing sags in the middle due to a certain narrative choice . Said choice will also be a challenge to players ability to empathise that some people will be unable to overcome (through no fault of their own).

I can understand why people dislike the story, however for me the story beats struck home and the underlying theme of the narrative really resonated with me. Hence the strong positive rating.

I rather liked it. It just doesn’t care if you like how the story goes, and that’s where a lot of people’s issue lies. It isn’t meant to be a happy story, it isn’t meant to be a “all nicely tied up/satisfying” story. And that’s ok. Not all story’s are happy, not all endings are. Games are stories. They tell the story they want to, regardless of wether or not it’s the story YOU wanted it to be. I think this game emphasizes that pretty well. And it doesn’t take away from the game being great. It’s a fun game, with a lot of memorable moments. People just don’t like that it isn’t the story THEY wanted. That’s all. Expand

The gameplay was amazing and the curveball of playing a little under half of the campaign as Abby was a wrlcomed surprise. The game has no good guys or bad guys. Visually this game is stunning. Everything from the level design to character redevelopment is just fantastic. The story was phenominal in every way possible. It was in my opinion the perfect sequal. I have never felt so overwhelmed and exhausted (in a good way) playing a game before. I was so heartbroken and angry when Joel died. Felt so betrayed and felt myself shaking my head at Ellie choosing revenge over Dina and JJ. I found myself disagreeing with Ellies choices and disliking her, a character I had held so close to my heart, someone I saw so much of myself in. I felt sympathy and love for abby and wishing for neither to die at the hand of the other. The only criticism I have is the open ending. I feel so much more could be explored in this world so much more of Ellies and Abbys journeys have been left untold. Please Naughty dog please make a third installment. Please!!!!

I honestly don't get the hate for this game. I loved every second of it. If you feel entitled to a certain type of story, look elsewhere. But don't gatekeep videogames as a whole just bc you wanted a dumbed down hero-worship plot. No spoilers ahead...

Trans Character(s): I've seen some comments about this game being transphobic. That is absolutely false. Having trans representation does not equal transphobia.

Ellie and Joel: This seems to be the main reason cited for the hate. Alright, people are complex. Way, way more complex than mainstream videogame narratives will have you believe. They aren't just 'good' or 'bad'. Last of Us 2 recognizes this aspect and uses it to tell an overarching story. The game isn't about Ellie or Joel. It's about Ellie and Joel AND the people around them. It introduces a lot of amazing new characters like Dina, Jessie, Abby etc, who all feel like full-fledged, often lovable characters in their own right. Every character's actions feel well-motivated.

Women (Ellie and Abby): Another stupid argument I keep seeing being made is that Ellie and Abby are too much like 'men' and not 'feminine enough'. Sure, I myself feel that we need more emotionally complex women in games that aren't just your typical, patriarchy-friendly 'strong woman' tropes. But the Last of Us is set in uhh.... a zombie apocalypse! Are there going to be strong women in such a world? HECK YEAH. The game has 'less masculine' women too! Dina is an absolutely wonderful character and probably my favorite in the whole game. Her strength is in her emotional maturity, which is something Ellie severely lacks.

Game mechanics: This is a Naughty Dog game, so you know what you're in for. You either ADORE it or like it. The other reviews have talked about this already.

TLDR; Don't go in feeling entitled to a certain kind of story, and you'll be fine. The story is realistic, so are all the characters and their motivations. Flawed characters =/= bad storytelling, quite the opposite.
