The game hurts player's heart, but still the narrative and detail of the game deserves to get the rank of masterpiece. This game needs a time to get the appropriate score that it deserves, not right now. It needs a time.

The story of The Last of Us has been with me ever since I finished the first game. That particular game for me was a 10 out of 10. Going into the sequel after years of anticipation, well needless to say the game had a huge bar to overcome. I was one of the people who had the game spoiled for me and I was also super upset about some of the events that took place. But with that having been said and after completing the story twice heres my takeaway. The pros of this game are that of the gameplay and obviously the graphics. The mixed aspects of this game would be the story as it's either one you're going to either love or hate, personally I loved it for the most part. The cons for me would be that I felt as though the story went on for far to long and I can think of about three times the game could have ended hours before the actual end. The games obviously not perfect but its definitely not a 0 or 4 either. I gave it an 8 because personally I believe the good far outweighs the bad with astronomical highs followed by occasional lows here and there. Expand

I mean the beginning definitely enraged me, but at the same time of u kept that mindset as you were playing the narrative was pretty strong then. You can understand and sympathize with the distances both parties had to go through. The ending was emotional and sucky, but I liked it. Overall this game **** I like the combat the story was pretty good. I don’t know where else they could go with this game. I give it a thumb and to fingers up. Expand

Despite the spoilers that were put on the network before the release, I really liked this game. All those people who give a bad mark without even playing half the game, I do not understand you at all. You want to destroy all those works of people who tried to diversify the game for you, spent not only time but also health, and you don’t like the game just because you saw enough spoilers. You can’t be like that. Ellie as the main character is no worse, but no better, as for me. After playing the whole game, I will not call it bad for sure. This is the same game that I was waiting for, and those people who call it terrible and other things are better not to listen to, they did not even really play a game that lasts 18-20 hours with a leisurely passage. No matter how much I like the game, I will not give it the highest rating, and I will not call it bad. It is worth your attention for sure, there are so many references to the first part, so much love is invested in this game, although for this it should be respected. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I know many people dont like the ending but i think it was awesome. Its not a satisfying happy end but its a good one.

There are only two things that i dont like:
The Ai is sometimes very dump. I mean like you stand in front of them and they wont see you dump...
And you play 1/3 of the game as Abby.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is clear that the game is being bombarded with negative critics, by people that have not played the game or did play it but rushed through it. I got to be honest, I was disappointed when I first finished the game, I went in expecting a continuation of Joel and Ellie's story and instead got Ellie and Abby's story. I decided to give it a second try and it made me realize this game is a lot better than people make it out to be.

It is hard to make the "antagonist" of the game likeable, but ND pulled it off IMO showing Abby's side. It could have been better planned, by maybe showing Abby's side BEFORE killing Joel. Also, I believe Joel's death was more than deserved, he got his comeuppance for his actions in the first game. I was extremely sad when it did happen, but I can see why Abby did it and I would have done the same thing if I was on her shoes.

Ellie's side of the story was my favorite part of the game, specially the flashbacks. Dina is a great character that compliments Ellie pretty well. I'm just sad we didn't get to know Jessie better: The WLF and the Seraphites are great factions and I believe that they even surpass the Fireflies from the first game. The ending was bittersweet to say the least, as I was left stunned for the rest of the credits, twice. It leaves the door open for a possible third game, this time about redemption and peace.

The gameplay is better compared to the first game and the graphics are top notch, almost next-gen like. Music and sound are stellar as usual.

I highly recommend to play this game without seeing any of the trailers, as they will trick you into thinking the game is about Joel and Ellie when it isn't.

With everything being said, I believe this game is a step behind from the masterpiece that the first game was. The plot could've been executed better, but you gotta give ND credit for trying something new with a beloved franchise like TLOU is.

    Real score: 9.3

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is incredibly different to its predecessor, and I’m not mad about it. I absolutely adored the first game, played it through countless times and watched endless play throughs, and became entirely attached to Ellie and Joel’s characters. In this game we unfortunately [spoiler] see Joel get his head caved in by a woman named Abby as Ellie is forced to watch, this scene made me feel sick and I sobbed. Immediately I HATED Abby. However that’s what ND wants, they want us to hate her for killing such a loved character in gaming...
Ellie then sets out on her revenge mission and in my opinion the story telling is phenomenal. There is a part where [spoiler] Ellie has to torture a woman named Nora in order to find Abby, as she returns to base she’s in bits, shaking, trembling, traumatised, and I have to say that’s one of the first times I’ve seen someone in a video game react in a normal way after having to torture someone

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After a 23 1/2 hour first playthrough yesterday, I’ve just started my second. Part II improves on The Last of Us in every possible way; Gameplay, Visuals, Music, AI, Worldbuilding. Acting, like the first game, was phenomenal and the new characters are mostly great. The polarising story might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but having dual-protagonists (especially ones being pitted as each other’s enemies) allows for something more fleshed out and is something I’ve never seen. The end, which others have described as unsatisfying, stays true to reality and the world that’s been created here. Not every story needs a happy ending. I’m a man, and there were some tears and had my mouth agape for most of the end portions.

The only downside to this title is that it can sometimes be monotonous, ie gameplay, that have carried over from its predecessor.

With the Dodge system implanted in Ellie, the fight is frantic and much more tense, the mechanics adopted by Naughty Dog was certainly an excellent Big Choice! The reaction (animation) of NPCs is very natural and real when they take a stab, a punch, a hammer, a hit with a crowbar or an improved stick, it is very realistic and brutal, looking at the combat scenes, we see how realistic the game is in all aspects, very impressive!!! The graphics of Part 2 is the most realistic in videogames, it is so Breathtaking!!!!!
Finishing, Everything in The Last of Us Part ll is impressive, from the awaited Story to the incredible Gameplay, everything very impressive, as was said by Neil Druckmman (Director of the game): "The Last of Us Part ll has the Naughty Dog Engine", they managed to extract the maximum of the power of Ps4, reaching the limit of the console, something they themselves have done previously with The Last of Us Part 1 on Ps3, Gameplays so realistic, so cinematic, the expressions of the characters, animations, scenarios and Enviroments with very realistic graphics, very well made sound effects and the most faithful and close to reality, very well composed songs, a frantic and tense combat at all times, New impressive Mechanics, very well programmed NPCs that scare because they act so natural and realistic in different situations. Everything very well done and rich in details. This game is causing and will still cause a lot of impact in the Games Industry, as always Naughty Dog Impressing us!!!! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing the game a few days after it came out, as well as being a completionist I have to say the game gave me so many feels, even more than first game that now that I've completed it Im left feeling like there was a significant loss. The graphics and gameplay I believe were exceptional and unparalleled, the mechanics having significantly improved from the first game (despite the first game mechanics generally being decent anyway). The voice acting was spot on as per, particularly Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson did an exceptional job, as well as Shannon Woodward(Dina) and Laura Bailey(Abby) the raw emotion in this game was portrayed fantastically by these actors. Now, as to my opinion on the storyline, I was hooked by it, having avoided all leaks and spoilers. I truly was rooting for Ellie from the beginning but as time went on I started to sympathise with Abby whose character had grown over the storyline with her incorporation of Lev and Yara, whereas Ellie's character stagnated and became a bitter shell of her former self, who ignored and put the lives of her loved ones at risk even if it meant they might die for her vendetta. This was extremely sad to see them make Ellie into this character, with the ending being so unsatisfying as she literally gives up everything to get revenge, and in the finale, backs out. I'm not mad she didn't kill Abby, but there was no character growth for Ellie, she didn't have a sudden realisation or turning point where she had a logical reasoning for backing out, she just did. I wanted there to be some reconciliation or mutual 'AHA moment' between Abby and Ellie, as their stories at one point or another started to mirror each other. I do really hope they make a sequel and give Ellie the ending she and Joel deserve, maybe with her taking a fledgeling under her wing, or at least finding some peace within herself. Also, they made Tommy into a bad character, after being such a kind compassionate person, they completely did a 180 and turned him into a sharp-tongued man consumed with revenge. Why did they do this to these beloved characters? Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

A couple minor plot issues and an ending that felt like it dragged compared to the entire build up. One of the most impressively written narratives I’ve ever seen. I really can understand the people who aren’t too fond of this game, but giving it a 1/10 basically just outs yourself as not playing the game or giving it a chance. There’s plenty of good in this game even if you hate certain choices. Personally it worked so well for me, and I can’t wait to go back and replay it. I was shocked at my favorite parts of the game being Abby’s section. Laura Bailey puts in an absolutely incredible performance. This game is an absolute masterpiece of storytelling in gaming. Jumping from timeline to timeline, switching from Ellie to Abby, killing off the characters that it does...and executing them all so well is insane. There were a lot of areas where this game could’ve collapsed on itself but it manages to be a worthy successor. I truly think we’ll get a third game, too, and when we do - I hope Neil and Halle double down on not giving in to fan service. This game is incredible, and my only advice is at least give it a chance and play through the game before judging it. Because I loved this game. Expand

Just because Joel and Ellie are the heroes of my childhood I will rate it at 8. I will also rate it at 8 for the nerves of the developers, for attention to details (which no one notices). But the finale is merged for me personally.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok, so.....the ones who gave a rate from 0 to 4 to this game are dumb, seriously.
It’s incredible how stupid peoples are, saying wrong things about the gameplay and horrible things about the story, a story that completes the first game in all of his aspects.
    Main critics :
    - Terrible characters
    - Terrible gameplay
    - Terrible story
Ok.....so, you didn’t play the game at all or you played it with a mask on your face.
The characters are wonderful, every facial expression is full of feelings and with every blow given / taken you can feel the heaviness of the actions and the tenacity with which Ellie, morally destroyed and with only the desire for revenge, makes her way for a story extremely rich in twists and indisputably breathtaking moments. Now, you're all pissed because they killed Joel, you're ridiculous. You can't accept the fact that Joel, as a human with dubious moral choices, died like any other **** person you kill in the game. It is hateful to play with Abby, and rightly so, I do not dispute the fact that some stylistic choices of the character did not make me appreciate her but, morally what she did is right (although she could have killed Joel without torturing him ), just accept it. The plot is poetry, the destruction of a little girl's mind as she makes her way to give space to her revenge, another girl who sees all her friends killed and the desire for revenge that grows in her too .... **** it.
The gameplay is absolute perfection in a game like this, so many ways to complete a duel and so many ways to die trying it.
The AI is the best that i’ve seen in a game (you have to turn it on in the game settings, dumb).
The end of the story is the only thing a bit disappointing, Ellie’s decision to retry another time to kill Abby( losing everything she had, Dina and the possibility to play guitar) is stupid if you look it with your eyes and not with the eyes of a mentally destroyed 19 years old girl during an apocalypse.
But Ellie had to kill her, and so the game would have the best ending possible.
This is the only thing i have to say on the story of this colossal game, perfect in every other aspect, in every other character and in almost every developer decision in the plot.
Now shut up and go play CoD Warzone.

I get why people are angry at the story, but it's not as bad as people are saying it is, yes one of the best characters dies early and in a weird way, but the story is really good. Sure, there maybe some directions that the story takes that aren't exactly what fans of the first game wanted, but the story they try to tell is well executed, love it or hate it. You could have college level discussions about the human experience based on this game alone. Sure, people are butthurt, but this is a fantastic game nonetheless and is hands down one of the best PlayStation exclusives of this generation. And whoever says this story is trash clearly haven't played most games that came out in the last 3-4 years. This is NOT Fallout 4/76, or even Mass Effect Andromeda level of bad. If you like the first one ignore the nay sayers and give the game a go. Expand

The gameplay is immersive. Every building clearing is tense, making you check every corner for safety. The infected’s cries, screams, and act of fighting for control is horrifying. The people are actually people, good and evil isn’t black and white. Every person slain by your own hand has you questioning your own morality as you read the last note written by them.

The visuals are breathtaking. Personally the best visuals I’ve seen on PlayStation.

The amount of detail in the game is outstanding. I can imagine how the events unfolded in 2013 during outbreak day, making it even more immersive.

I recommend this game to anyone that has played the first Last Of Us.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 is an ambiguous game with a heavy and complex story. About revenge and the price that need to pay for her. About the fact that the dark road of revenge leads only to emptiness.

The plot shows Ellie's moral fall. She thinks the end justifies the means. Abby, in turn, had already committed revenge. In the course of the story, she becomes better as a person.
    Impressions:
    graphics — 10;
    sound — 10;
    gameplay — 8;
    characters — 7;
    story — 7.
    Average — 8.4 / 10.
You can remove 1 point for SJW, there is something like this in the game, and it catches your eye a little, although it does not interfere with either the gameplay or the story.
I'm partly unhappy with the beginning of the story. The essence of the claim is that at the beginning of the game we are not told who the new characters are and why they are taking revenge. Therefore, many players cannot understand why Joel deserved this. I think it was worth explaining right away. Such a move leads to hatred of new characters, unwillingness to understand them. Many did not even want to play for Abby.
In the game as a whole, you need to delve into what is happening and notice the details. If you do this, it becomes clear that the story is not bad.

The ending is also not bad. It is worth remembering that Abby spared Ellie twice. But the final decision of the main character was influenced by something completely different. Ellie recalls the moment with Joel, how after the party she went to him to discuss the incident. Next, occurs a very important conversation for their relationship. Ellie says that she probably will not be able to forgive him for saving her life, and not for saving humanity. After a moment, the heroine adds that she will try to forgive. Joel looks at Ally and thanks her with hope.
The essence of the moment is that Ally, deep down, did not want revenge, but wanted to return Joel. She regrets because she could not forgive him before it was too late. At this moment, Ellie understands — nothing can be returned, the price paid for revenge is too high and at the moment everything is pointless. At the end of the path traveled there was only a emptiness ...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The gameplay of part 2 is much more refined and brutal with the added use of more craftable items and the addition of prone and being able to slip into small crevices to narrowly maneuver certain areas in times of battle

A very slightly disappointing story in comparison to the first due to the forced segment of the second half for a character Naughty Dogs should have expected to be hated by devoted fans of the first.

As much as they got me to sympathize with this individual and understand their motives I cannot forgive them due to their actions early on in the game however I digress as I see Naughty Dogs message in which revenge can lead to dire consequences not just for yourself but for the individuals around you.

It isn't the sequel us fans wanted but never the less it is an amazing sequel to the masterpiece the last of us 1 was with the ending making you Feel like the character at the said ending. Empty

I do however believe there is room to improve upon the overall story with a sequel due to certain knowledge discovered very late in the game and with the aforementioned ending being left very open with many routes to take for a potential part 3

I was one of the many people spoiled due to the may leaks however Neil Druckman was right in regards to the story not being 100% true to the leaks

At the end of the day, not everyone will like this game nor every character in the game however all and all the game, in my opinion, is still a must-play for players of the first and is an emotional rollercoaster.

I commemorate Naughty Dogs for giving us the sequel that we didn't deserve but the sequel we needed and I give this sequel a 9/10

The first half of TLOU2 (if you know, you know) was absolutely incredible. I loved EVERY second, every interaction, everything. From the spine chilling gurgle emanating from clickers that somehow sounds even more terrifying, to the incredible acting presented by Ashley and Shannon. From the glorious realm of Jackson and Seattle, and the simple track of snow later countered by the ghostly sighting of an abandoned city retaken, it was a masterpiece. Truly. The chemistry and bittersweet moments had me lulled into a sense of security that was later cracked into pieces, as to be expected. The first part deserves positive reviews. The same cannot be said for the latter.

I can see exactly what ND was trying to convey, the message they so horribly tried to send. However everything leading up to that message did not make it satisfactory. I did not care for the second half in the least, and even after letting it sink in, I did not end up changing my feelings or mind on the interactions at hand. Again, I see what they were doing, and I can see how they thought it would work, but the narrative was insanely weak. The half-a$$ed parallels and the "two sides of the same coin" (literally) sequence was just not where it should have been.

I love TLOU and TLOU2, and I will continue to support ND and if they do have the balls to make a third installment, I hope to every god and deity that they do it right.

this game makes a great drink coaster, it would be a decent throwing disc if your house gets borken into, finally it's good practice for your knife cuts

The only reason I give it a 9 instead of 10 is because of Abby. She seems like a completely different character when playing her in Jackson compared to Seattle and after what she did to Joel I found myself unable to sympathize with her at all. I felt great emotional connection in lots of the story with Ellie because Ellie's character has been developed and you can understand the loss which has driven her to want revenge.
Ellie is a great character to play as but with Abby I didn't like playing as her and I understand why her parts were in the game and I think the needed to be in the game but I think Abby's sections could've been shortened more to a length comparable to playing as Ellie in the first game. Playing as Abby annoyed me a bit with progression as well because when I was back to playing as Ellie again in Santa Barbara I had pretty much forgotten what kind of upgrades I'd put on weapons and stuff like that because they each are given their own progression trees and weapon upgrades.

Overall, I loved the story and the way it showed Ellie's quest for vengeance driving her down a dark path. I loved the flashback sequences with Joel, especially the last one which just made me even more distraught with his death. The main objection I have to the game is simply playing as Abby too much. Her story was good and I liked the characters she played with but this game is about Ellie so I think the split between them in gameplay should've been more like an 80/20 or 70/30 rather than 50/50.

Amazing story carrying on from the first which was equally great. Fantastic graphics. You can tell how much effort went into making this, well done Naughty Dog! Smashed it again!

I waited 7 years for this game and I don’t think I can say that I am satisfied with the game, but it was so good. I have felt rage, sadness and tons of other emotions in the 19 hours I have played this. This game isn’t about satisfying the gamers needs at all. Neil himself said that this game wasn’t gonna be fun to play. And it definitely wasn’t. But that shouldn’t effect one’s opinion. I thought the gameplay was amazing, the design and the sound design were the best, the characters were beautifully developed and the story was good! I found it so interesting to play from different perspectives which makes the game diverse and different. It stands out in a positive way. Expand

this game was phenomenal. it was nowhere near perfect, but i don’t think that it could ever live up to its predecessor no matter how hard they tried. the acting, the graphics, the environment, the characters, the improved gameplay... the only reason why i won’t give it a 10 was because of the weird pacing.

abby is the worst. And having to play as her for 10+ hour is even worst. Ellie and Dina are awesome.

We always expect the best from Naughty Dog and they delivered a lot: superb mechanics (with some small bugs on release, sure it will be fixed), beautiful graphics (one of the best of the generation), really fun gameplay (admittedly not too different from the first part).

The only problem I see is that story-wise it's too ambitious, moving this game to art territory and ultimately falling a bit short to communicate it's message to wide audience this game has.
Nevertheless the story is brave and emotional, a must for lovers of story-centric games in general. Give this game a chance, you won't be sorry.

The story for this game isn't as good as the first game, the characters are boring, and the overall theme of the game is cliche. However the gameplay is amazing and a serious step up from the first game, as it adds many new mechanics to the game making it more intense and immersive than the first.

Dont listen to all the people giving it a 1 or 0 they are just complaining about the story direction, it's not as bad as people are making it out but it definitely doesn't compare to the heart wrentching story of the first game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
