This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a masterpiece and y'all forgot naughty dog's idea. TLOU2 is a game about hate, revenge, the hate cycle and people. Y'all defend that idea that Joel is a hero, but he actually isn't, even in Ellie's story he isn't a hero. He murdered a lot of people and stopped the Fireflies find a cure. Soon or later, someone could search for him to do a revenge, and this was what happened. Joel is the hero only in his story. Abby did a revenge but she lose too. Abby's Father, Yara, Owen, Mel, Manny were murdered, she lost WLF, she and Lev were kidnapped, they starved and were left to die. Ellie lost two fingers, Jesse died, she got PSTD, left Dina and JJ because she's so tortured with Joel's death that she "NEEDS" search for revenge, she couldn't forget herself for be beaten by Abby. Ellie broke this cycle of hate and finished her revenge when she realizes that she lost everything she loved, realizes this is self-destructing and she needs to forgive, then the game ends showing that she's trying now. Every revenge has your costs, every story has your side, but in the end they all become stuck in revenge and then the cycle hate begins. Everyone killing, stealing, doing whatever they want for revenge. Naughty Dog showed that to us, they showed up the consequences, the story sides and why revenge is useless and we shouldn't do this, because we lose everything that we love at the end. They teached us how we should let it go and forgive people. And it's obvious that a story about hate doesn't have a happy ending, as I said, TLOU was about love and TLOU2 hate.

Also, people are hating TLOU2 because of LGBTQ+ characters. Ellie always was a lesbian, her relationship with Dina it's so well constructed. Lev being trans kid it's so adorable (I want so BAD protect this kid). LGBTQ+ persons (or characters) DO exist and you have to accept that. We don't live at the 80s anymore, we're free to love and be who we are (except if who you are include hating others just for being who they are, confuse? I know lmao).

Thanks Naughty Dog for the amazing game.

The game is a master piece despite what review bombers say, they story is understandably conflicting and probably make you angry at certain points of the game. But what people fail to see is that exactly what it's meant to do, make you feel angry, upset etc. What I took away from this game is one there is always two side to a story, and probably more importantly actions have consequences and the first two hours of the game show you the action you took in the last game could and probably will catch up to you and the theme stays present through out the game all the way into the final act. The gameplay is second to non and is for me the best game I have played in along time regardless if the story, but then again what to you expect from a naughty dog game Expand

There is a lot things you may say about the gameplay, but for some reason most of the people don't and they don't seem to care so let's go straight to the story.
The story is great. People who say about plotholes or smth didn't pay much attention during their playthrough, pretty much everything is explained, even things you might not care about. The storytelling sets a new mark for cinematic videogames, I'd even say that not every movie achieved so much in terms of cinema language. The story is told with the rule - show, don't tell. Pretty much every action and character motivation is shown and not told to you verbally, so you have to think and try to understand the characters by paying attention to all the things they say and do, all the flashbacks shown to you etc. Many people weren't prepared for this, especially after the first game which was pretty easy to understand. Actors in this game play their roles flawlessly and every cinema aspect from camera angles to dialogues is made beautifully. Also story structure is very nonstandard not only for a videogame but for a movie too, but I won't spoil anything, you should play the game for yourself. I give it 10 out 10 because it was one of the most unique experiences I've had in videogames. I tried to not spoil anything so you would get the whole experience for yourself because this game deserves it.

It's not quite 100% perfect - it can very occasionally drag or feel disjointed - but for me there's still more than enough to set it aside from any other game from this generation and to justify a 10/10 score. It's brutal, intense, terrifying, saddening and beautiful. Even the parts that you initially think you don't like soon turn out to be key parts of the narrative, and they win you over in an amazing way.

Ignore all the people spamming the internet with negative reviews without playing it. A game like this can't be missed out on - it's an incredible piece of story-telling that you just don't otherwise find in a game. It challenges your ideas on what a game and even what a story arc should be.

Therefore, I think I am in a position to write a fair review, seeing as how this game clearly got review-bombed by a bunch of people who never even played it (it had thousands of 0 out of 10 reviews within hours of its launch, when nobody could have possibly finished it). I also played the first one and consider it one of my favourite games ever.

So here is my review of the second game. At first, when I had just completed the game, I thought it was an 8. The gameplay, graphics, and audio are top notch, I don't think anybody who is reasonable can debate that. The animations are some of the best in any game ever, and it ends up making each fight look extremely cinematic. They don't shy away from fully depicting the violence and gore in this game, so when you're engaging in melee combat with your knife, you can see cuts form on your enemies. Shotguns will be able to blow limbs off. It's brutal and the combat is extremely satisfying, but if you're easily disturbed, maybe this game isn't for you. But for those who can handle it, the gameplay will have an incredible tension and atmosphere to it. All the guns feel powerful and the controls are responsive but also feel weighty to match the brutal and heavy tone of the game (e.g., when you sprint, it actually feels like you're running for your life as you feel the thud of each frantic footstep and hear your character panting). And the level design allows for more dynamic combat than its predecessor with its verticality and variety of hiding spots. The additions of tall grass and the ability to crawl under things allow you to slip in and out of stealth anytime, letting you to play your way. New enemy types and guns/craftable items are all fun additions. The puzzles in this game are also a bit better done than the first game. No more annoying raft puzzles, Ellie can swim now. Exploration has also been improved. Artifacts are everywhere for those who are interested in learning more about the game's world, and each room has a unique story to it or some worthwhile loot. The environments themselves look gorgeous, and the set pieces, while kind of sparse, are all intense and memorable. Voice acting is great as usual in a Naughty Dog game and the soundtrack and sound effects (like the clickers' noises) are all really atmospheric and well done. Overall, this game looks and sounds great and the quality of the gameplay is high.

Now on to the controversial piece, the story. I will delve into SPOILERS here so do not continue reading beyond this point if you don't want to see them. But when I first finished the game, again, I thought it was an 8. The game was definitely extremely emotional but at first, I had a similar complaint to many other people - I didn't like Abby as much as I liked Ellie. Ideally, I thought that the game should've made the players feel equally for both characters to maximize the tension as they fight at the end. So I saw a bunch of other people saying perhaps they should have introduced Abby's character early in the game and humanize her to get us to like her, then maybe have her kill Joel later in the game. Because currently, it is pretty difficult to get over our first impressions of her as the woman who killed Joel, even if we can understand that she felt motivated by her own loss. I loved the overall darker tone of this game and the themes of revenge, forgiveness, loss, love, and humanity, but I just thought it was an 8 because I didn't like Abby too much. But as a few days passed, the more I think about it, the more I actually like the story better this way. I realized we aren't necessarily supposed to like Abby, but the point is that when she first kills Joel, we don't see her as a human being. We see her as a monster and just want revenge, just like Ellie. Our emotions throughout the story mirror Ellie's emotions. So we are supposed to hate her and be blinded by revenge in the beginning. Then slowly, as the game progresses, we learn about Abby's motivations and backstory. And while we don't necessarily have to like her, we at least see her as a human stuck in a terrible post-apocalyptic environment just like everyone else, trying to survive and hold on to the people they care about. There are no entirely good or bad characters here, including Joel and Ellie. Everyone has killed and done horrible things in this story. There are shades of grey, not black and white morality. And eventually, we have to learn to let go of our hate to move on and live freely. That message is super powerful, and I think it was delivered spectacularly. Now the only minor complaint I have is I definitely think some side characters could have been developed more, but as a whole, this game is much more ambitious than the first. They took risks with the story and the quality of the gameplay is superb. 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Man...the game is rough on you, and it doesn’t give you what you want, but kind of what you need of that makes sense. It’s a strong message about revenge and the price to be paid and the reality of it. This isn’t your typical revenge movie where you just spend most of it just watching the hero gloriously picking off the villains one by one. The lines are blurred and it forces the player to go through some hard stuff. Obviously if you’ve played it you know you have to play as Abby for the entire second half of the game. This enraged me at first and I was still ready to kill her at the end no matter what. However by the time the moment comes, even though you don’t have the choice, I still probably would’ve stopped Ellie from finishing her off. The entire moment is huge and hits like a ton of bricks. Days after I realized....wow...if Ellie had just dropped her need for revenge and ignored Tommy, Abby would’ve died on that post where the Rattlers put her. That’s strong stuff Expand

Though I was pissed at Abby in the beginning by the end I actually liked Abby & her story. Ellie absolutely love Ellie but totally understood from both characters Where they were coming from Abby wanted Justice for her fathers death & Ellie wanted justice for Joel’s. So by the end I understood where both of them were coming from

So people are just cool with Joel killling whoever he wants and ripping the cure for humanity away from everyone for his own selfish reasons? That since Joel is such a likable guy, he dosen't deserve, no matter what he does to anybody else, the reckoning that comes his way? Has anyone ever heard the saying, "what go around, comes back around?" The whole point of the story is to take a character who you hate and don't understand in the beginning (Abby), and have the ability as a sensible human being to understand, empathize, and sympathize with that character by the end. To understand why she did what she did. What? Nobody felt bad that Abby's entire life was destroyed when Joel murdered her dad? To the point that she couldn't even be intimate with her love interest, knowing the man that did that is still breathing the same air she is. What makes Joel and Ellie so much better that Abby? Other than the fact that you learn Abby's story last? The whole point of what made Joel such a fascinating character was that he was simultaneously a hero AND a villain. Saving Ellie was hardly a heroic thing to do, even Ellie would have disagreed with it. People need to understand that a major theme of the game was seeing and perceiving events and the world from certain character's point of view. To understand why each character does what they do and makes the decision's that they do. That's called great storythelling. To be able to understand why character's do what they do. Not just forever staying faithful to a villain just because he's a fan favorite. I applaud Naughty Dog for doing this. Bottomline is this, depending on your point of view, Joel Miller was a villain, and he got what was coming to him. Expand

There is no so-called white washing, but a description of a selfish Avenger Abby who has lost everything. The last forgiveness is to forgive Joel and untie her own heart knot. She saw Joel and her shadow in Abby and LEV, which also means that Ellie finally understood the sentence "if I have a second chance, I will do that again". In the process of recording her revenge in her diary, Allie kept revealing that she sometimes forgot about revenge, but felt guilty, She even thought that Joel would hope that she would not take revenge. She was full of contradictions about revenge. Later, she could not remember Joel's appearance clearly. Once she recalled the bloody scene, she grabbed Abby and recalled Joel's face. The night before she died, she said to Joel that I would never forgive you in my life, but I would like to give it a try, which is also for Abby. Finally, I went back to the farm and drew a picture of Joel playing the guitar in his diary, which was the perfect ending. Deduction: Jesse and Tommy's confused behavior. Expand

This game is a technical marvel. Sound and visuals are impeccable. There are views that will take away your breath, and the characters move, sound and look like real people. The sense of atmosphere is jaw dropping. There are times you can almost taste the choking spores in the air, or feel the warmth of a setting sun on your face. This is a beautiful game.
The gameplay is good, with some basic puzzle solving and platforming thrown in to add a touch of variety, but the core is the fighting. Fighting the infected is usually a tense, nervous experience, while the fights against human opponents are some of the highlights of the game. There is a genuine sense of achievement from picking off a whole group while not once raising an alarm. And if the first game scared you, this too will be no walk in the park. Hail to the king (you'll know him when you see him). If any other publisher produced a game that looked/sounded and played like this, I'd have no complaints and would be happy to give it a high rating. But it's from Naughty Dog and it's the sequel to one of my favourite games, so there's more to be considered than the technical aspects.
So is this a worthy sequel? Does the plot honour the previous game and are new characters worthy of being talked of alongside Joel and Ellie? Yes. So much yes.
This game has baggage. It has upset some people. These people enjoy being upset. If you don't like "SJW progressive propaganda" or whatever, don't play it. It's not for you, but you probably know that by now. That being said, there are bad reviews that aren't from bigots and damaged man-babies. There ARE genuine criticisms to be made about this game. I am not saying everyone that disliked it should be ignored. No piece of media can please everyone. This is an experience that will divide opinion.
I loved this game. But it is emotionally draining and incredibly unforgiving. Joel and Ellie have changed with time, but they're still the characters I loved in the previous instalment. They do things that are stupid, self destructive, selfish, vicious and illogical. And because they feel like real people, you can see why they act that way. Life isn't always logical, and they are living in a strange time with pressures we can't even begin to understand. And the new characters we meet stand up to comparison with those in the previous instalment. There are truly evil villains, heroic allies, new groups, tribes and gangs. Even the infected get a few tweaks. The new characters that have elicited most of the hate are far more complex and nuanced than the naysayers will admit. I ended up caring for them just as much as the more familiar "goodies". And as the story progresses and only one ending seems possible, the dread and horror that something you don't want to happen is inevitable is something I've never felt from a game before.
This is a rambling, waffle of a review, but I only finished the game yesterday and there's still much to process. When everything was over I was a bit of a wreck. I'd cried, sworn and got quite vocal about the actions that were being taken. I've never shouted at game characters before. THAT is how much I cared about these fictional folk.
The game has flaws. It isn't perfect. But if you buy into the story, if you care about these people, the game isn't really the point. I can't be objective about this experience. No game has effected me as much as this one. The importance of what is achieved and what it makes (many of) the players feel counteracts any of the flaws. No other game is like this, and frankly that's probably a good thing. I couldn't go through this on a regular basis.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite the extremely polarizing reviews of "The Last of Us: Part 2" I decided to buy and play it anyway, being a hugggeeee fan of the first game I couldn't miss out on this. My opinion is that this is absolutely a 10/10 game. It is hands down one of the most phenomenal pieces of storytelling to ever hit the gaming industry. It was an emotional roller coaster of love, sadness, empty revenge, and self realization. I would also be remiss if i did not mention incredible voice acting that puts much of the acting we see on tv to shame. The connections to the characters that are built make you feel every gut wrenching emotion or glimmer of happiness they feel. Also worth mentioning that this game has some of the most impressive graphics and facial animation I've ever seen on a console game. Everything about this masterpiece comes together nicely

It seems most of the people who didn't like game are truly missing the point of the game. This isn't a game about revenge, its a game about people who have lost sight of themselves and moral values, but ultimately are reminded of who they really are, unfortunately at a significant cost. This game shows us that revenge is not what its chalked up to be. Take a second to actually put yourself in Abbys shoes, the bloodlust she felt is not too different from how many feel about Joel. We lost Joel, yes....and it sucked but its what MADE the game hit so hard. Its clear Abby is on some level remorseful for her actions. She still doesn't sleep well, she struggles to make real connections with people, and is an emotional wreck. But though all this she encounters Lev who helps Abby find herself once again, even when she is at risk of her darkest moment, about to kill a pregnant woman (Dina) who would have just been collateral damage in this situation, and then backs off. The hardest part about this is watching Ellie make all the same mistakes as Abby on her revenge quest, while the audience knows full well that it wont solve her problems, whether they will admit it or not and despite how we all feel about Joel. In the end when Abby is spared, it was only when Ellie hit absolute rock bottom that she realized the error of her ways.....taking an incredible toll on her spirit. The ending was perfect. People interpret it alot of different ways, but the absence of Ellie's bracelet (which Dina gave her), while she was in Santa Barbara, and then the fact that she was wearing it again at the end sequence back at the farm, no longer bloodied up, fingers healed, no longer carrying her weapons she had and unconcerned about Dina and JJ's absence shows us a large passing of time and tells me she had already been back to Jackson and just stopped by the farm to say one last final goodbye to her last connection to Joel.....The guitar. At least thats what i'm hopeful for.

The other group of people who didn't like the game are reading too deeply into their own bigoted views and what they perceive to be propaganda. *big eye roll* just enjoy the damn game, no one is shoving their values down your throat here. I really thought we were past all that.....

10/10 highly recommend, This wasn't just a game, it was an experience. All great art evokes a myriad of different emotions and opinions about the subject. So if anything the polarizing reviews of this game are proof of what a masterful piece of art this really is! What an absolute pleasure it was to play, I sincerely hope the devs are not discouraged and we get a third.

And I love it how they managed to write and develop such a comprehensible and relatable antagonist. Another thing I have to talk about are the dialogs and the emotions, both are like nothing else, more realistic than in any other game before.

Somehow, it manages to turn someone you immediately wanted to kill for their despicable act they committed, to desperately wanting to save them.

Video games often get over looked, but for me games like this? No other piece of literature or entertainment gives me the same experience, the same emotional journey. No movie, no book, nothing comes close.

The first game had an everlasting impact on me seven years ago. I waited years for the follow up and it delivered something I didn't know I wanted.

I remember the launch day of the original The Last of Us back in 2013. I came home from school, bought the game and was so excited to play it. From the opening first 20min the game had me and when I beat the game I was in love with the characters, the story, and the world. 7 years later and I still love it and I was so excited about Part II.

Just like the first game, I downloaded Part II and was waiting for the game to unlock on my PS4. The game unlocked and I was finally playing the sequel to my favorite game of all time. I was so hyped and was so happy to be back in this world with these characters. The game looks so great and is probably one of the best looking games of all time (next to RDR2). As the story progressed I was happy to see where it would go and then it happened. The unforgettable act took place and I had no idea where the story was going. Based on the trailers I thought I knew where the story was going but I was wrong.

I accepted what happened and was dying to see what happened next. I played the story over the course about a week and was caught off guard so many times by the story, especially with a huge surprise half way through the game. I found myself rushing through the second half and stopped myself when I noticed. Upon completing the game I was unsure what I thought about the game. I LOVED so much about the game. The gameplay and combat is Naught Dog at its best! The animations is top tier and the acting is the best I've seen in a video game.

I thought about this game for days and finally realized that I actually really appreciate what NG did with the story. They could have done it safe and predictable but they didn't. The arc that Ellie and other characters go through is great. 90% of this game is about revenge, yes. However, the last 10% is a about redemption and forgiveness. While this game may not be what some fans expected, I feel this game will be remembered as revolutionary and ahead of its time a year or two down the road. I can't wait for my NG+ playthrough to see everything I missed during my first playthough.

    My final score: 8.5

Gritty, morally complex, dark, and backdropped in a brutal and violent post-apocalyptic world, this game is one of the best (if not the best game) released in a long time... and certainly the best game released this year.

The game is a masterpiece of storytelling, and is MUCH deeper than Part I... foiling violent hatred against deep empathy with incredible effect through reciprocal gameplay elements. Ellie's emerging sexuality, and recurring strong female leads (both literally and figuratively), play center stage in this game, which is generally refreshing (and not licentiously overdone).

The results are an absolutely magnificent work of storytelling and gameplay... equally thrilling and heartwrenching to play and watch.

Unfortunately, this game has received an unfair and emotionally charged low score by many disheartened prior players (of TLOU Part I) who felt cheated by Naughty Dog's necessary maturation of the main character, (Ellie). While the Ellie of TLOU Part I was a bright and brave young teenager, full of quips and quick comments, the Ellie of Part II is now a competent and dangerous adult, who has matured while enduring years of emotional damage in a savage world... each leaving her with its own unique scar (physical and/or mental). Fans of LTOU Part I should be aware of the emotional change in the gameplay BEFORE going in. Your fond memories of the funny and snarky Ellie (and Joel) from Part I will forever be changed, often for a much darker, albeit morally rich and complex, main character.

With that caveat, this game is WELL worth the money... don't be fooled by the haters.

The Last of Us Part II is a dark, brutal, depressing, and intense ride. From the get-go, you are thrown right into the fray with hardly any time to catch your breath. I fully believe that if you want the best possible experience, it’s an absolute must to play through on Survivor. With that said, let’s dig right in.

What I enjoyed the most was the gameplay. If you play on Survivor; patience, resource management, and planning are critical. Going into each encounter with guns blazing might leave you in a bad spot in the next encounters, so you’re forced to think about how you want to take on each fight, how much resources you’re willing to spend, and utilize the environment to your advantage. Do you want to be stealthy, use your weapons at your disposal, a mixture of both, or simply avoid fighting altogether? That choice is up to you, but again, there are considerations you’ll have to make. The tension you’ll feel in each encounter will make you appreciate that momentary respite when you make it through, and gives you some time to breathe and prepare. I may be in the minority when I say I enjoyed the story despite being controversial amongst critics. I appreciate Naughty Dog’s willingness to tell a story that isn’t simply black or white. What their tale does explore is the gray area, the area that is neither right nor wrong, difficult to judge, and does not have a clear and definitive answer. It was a risk the developers took, one that many people either hate or love, but I believe it paid off in the end.

My one critique of this game is that, although I do very much enjoy the gameplay, it will feel repetitive not very long into the journey. Once you’ve seen one fight, you’ve basically seen them all with some very small variations. If Naughty Dog would have thrown in curveballs and different mechanics to deal with as you progressed, I think it could have kept things fresh and provide some really unique battles.

The bottom line is, The Last of Us Part II is a fantastic game. The world and atmosphere is beautifully crafted, and each struggle will leave you triumphant. It very much deserves your attention and play through, and so I highly recommend The Last of Us Part II.

Ignore the angry nerds who came here and review bombed it, this game is excellent in almost every aspect. The narrative is the only drawback, and it's a big drawback, as it leaves much to be desired and also leaves you just picking your head wondering why they made certain narrative choices. Gameplay, music, atmosphere, mechanics are all second to none and it's definitely still worth playing.

Anyone familiar with the first franchise entry won’t be surprised that The Last of Us Part II is not a game that’s going to leave you feeling upbeat and chipper. Make sure your emotional bank account is good and ready for the beating it’s about to take before jumping into this game.

Violence, drama, and more violence. That’s most of what this game is, but just like last time around, Naughty Dog doesn’t lean into violence for the sake of being violent. They use it to illustrate and enhance the intensity of a world turned completely upside down, and to take us on another journey through that bleak and brutal world.

The narrative is different this time around. We already know the world, we already know the infected, and we already know the original story of Joel and Ellie. Part II takes us on a continued, yet distinctly separate narrative journey. The Last of Us Part II deepens our relationship with Joel and Ellie while adding the emotional complexity of a new cast of characters. By design, the game shows a different side to the original story while also expanding into entirely new territory.

The chronological ordering (or lack there off) to how the story is told can be somewhat jarring at times. Ultimately though it does serve to make the narrative delivery more suspenseful and dramatic. Some of the flashback scenes felt a little slow compared to the pace of the rest of the game, but many of them did add useful layers of context and drama.

The mechanics are subtly but nicely improved over The Last of Us in nice ways. Dodging and evading feels like a more realistic way to engage in melee combat, sneaking is more nuanced now that you can go fully prone, and the ability to visibly listen to enemies takes time to improve. The gun mechanics leave a little bit to be desired, but the melee mechanics more than make up for any gaps. The brutality and fluidity with which you can mutilate just about anyone and everything is superb. And the accompanying graphics and audio couldn’t be more raw.

Overall, The Last of Us Part II leaves you never quite knowing how to feel. The weight of every major moment in the game is successively more and more heavy. It truly is a proper “Part 2”– the game picks up where the original left off, gives us more of we loved, but brings in enough “newness” in terms of narrative and the overall story to stay supremely compelling throughout the entire journey. If you want a game that will force you to feel something, The Last of Us Part II is a must play.

Getting right to it, I will say this is a good game. Is it 10/10? No. is it 1 or 0/10? Also No.

Getting right to it, I will say this is a good game. Is it 10/10? No. is it 1 or 0/10? Also No.

Firstly - there are too many bad reviews on here because people just didn't like what happened to Joel, or the game is 'Leftist propaganda', or any other number of silly complaints, and honestly speaking, I feel sorry for them. Just because a game didn't give you the story you think you deserved, or if you don't agree with gender stuff or orientation of people because you're too stupid, is not a reason to trash on something 100%. I hope everyone gives this game a fair chance - if you don't like it, that's ok, but least be fair about it. I hope my words seem fair - I played the first right before this as I never had, and while I enjoyed it, it didn't blow me away like so many others, so take that as you will, but I think that gives my opinion a fresh and possibly more neutral stance.

With that out of the way, I will say this about what I liked:

Game play feels very improved. The controls feel tight and responsive, animations are great and fluid. I do feel the AI is much better as well, calling out to each other to circle around and alert others. Not the *best* AI ever, but very good, especially for a stealth game.

Environments are absolute jaw droppers. Beautiful and quite large, well made and intuitive. I do wish there were more open areas like early on, however wasn't really a negative I would take away, just something more I would have liked to have seen, pretty minor.

Enemies are much better, and new ones are damn freaky. Some of the bosses were straight up amazing/terrifying. Even returning ones like clickers feel harder to deal with and more intense.

The big elephant in the room, the story - I will outright say I did in fact like it, but it's definitely not perfect. I'll try not to get into spoilers, but I am saying that even though this is really, REALLY, not a happy story, that doesn't mean it's bad. I think the story that happened, happened for a reason, even if we didn't want it to happen that way. I respect that, and to be honest I think that made me feel a wider range of emotions than if we had gotten the happy 'ellie and joel ride off into the sunset' story everyone keeps complaining we should have gotten. Actions have consequences, and this story is about that. The first tlou was about hope and the relationship joel and ellie built, I think this one is much darker, really about revenge and dealing with grief. Very different, but that doesn't mean that's bad.

Now, leaning more towards the negative, I have this to say:

While I did like the story overall, there were pacing issues that I really didn't like. I think, for me, the timing of some of the flashbacks felt wrong - you'd just have finished something major, you're really into that part of the story, and BAM, flashback that really didn't have much to do with what you were doing. It felt.... off, and very jarring.

Along with that, some parts of the game seemed to drag much more than others. Playing as Ellie? blew through it. But at some point you play as Abby, and whatever your thoughts are about her, her areas just felt.....longer. And not in a good way. Almost at times you kinda just wanted the game to hurry up and get to the next thing. With Ellie the pacing was good, story elements seemed to happen when they should - with Abby, I kept hoping around the next turn something would, but often didn't.

And lastly on the negative side, the characters, more to the point, the new ones. I liked them, that wasn't the issue, however they didn't really do anything with them. You meet and set up these new people, and they just kind of...don't do much with them. I think parts of the story could have been made much better if they had developed these characters more.

All in all, I really did enjoy my time with TLOU2. It's a very different game than the first, and I think a lot of people were angry they didn't get what they were hoping these two characters they loved deserved - I hate to say it though, but that's kind of life. A lot of bad stuff happens to a lot of people that either don't deserve it, or that we love deeply, and that's just how it is. ND told the story they wanted to, and just because we feel angry, upset, or even sad, about the story, that doesn't mean it was a bad one. Combine that with very, very solid gameplay and exceptionally beautiful areas, and you have a really good game.

Please give it a fair shot.

There is not an objective or possible way to try to underrate this game. Neither you like or your hate the story, there are many facts, way too many facts and pros in The Last of Us Part II to analyze and compare to other games in its genre, and Naughty Dog's last game simply is an magnanimous hand-made videogame that I've ever seen in my 30+ more years on videogaming. Uncharted seriesThere is not an objective or possible way to try to underrate this game. Uncharted series were over the top in every aspect and TLOUII is simply three steps forwards and none backwards compare to everything else done before.

Also, although it wasn't necessary at all, cinematic direction and concept game direction were very risky, but they were executed properly and in a good way (Debatable). Script, story-telling and what we play is the most "Game of Thrones" things in videogame, where killing any common enemy will look so ridiculously gorgeous and photorealistic, with eye animation and such a great quality design (Not only graphically, but in concept) that it's almost hard to watch because you feel like you're killing a living being. To experience empathy is very common in this game.

You will feel "something" in every decision made in the story-script. Will it be sad? Will it be good? Will it be bad? it will depend entirely on your personal experience with the madness-vengeance story, but be sure that you will feel something. As a player, you will be part of the story because the connection is too tight and perfect to every character shown. There are not black nor whites, only greys.

Technically is also one step forward everything you've seen. It looks like a damn PS5-XSX even on PS4 FAT, and we still don't know how magicians Naughty Dog's developers made this.

A masterpiece that everyone should play at least once. A better and riskier game than the original The Last of Us (2013).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After some time past and I have finally finished playing this masterpiece I have time to write a review. Objectively speaking the game earns 10 out of 10. And even if we consider the fact that the first part of this game was an unrepeatable masterpiece and a Magnum Opus from ingenious Neil Druckman, the Last of Us part 2 comes insanely close to this border. The game is huge and enhanced at least 3 time in comparison with the first part. It affected both story and locations. When first time you enter the Center of Seattle you are amazed by such a huge sizes of map. Your first thousghts accompanied by extraordinary amazement and euphoria, "wait this should be the main location where story takes place". With an excitement you look for resources, cards and other stuff because game wants tyou to do. Game is not easy and casual and you have to do your best to adequtely spend resources. Each shot is done by risk. Each bullet costs. SO you enjoy searching for loot. Locations are not easy and usually are accompanied by enemies like uneasy zombies, people and even dogs. Each type of enemy requires you to choose different style of playing. And this is plus. By the walkthrough you would visit the most of the places of the entire Seattle and this is not all. Game is insanely big and wide. It is not just a corridor shooter, but a really interesting stells action. In terms of mechanics game offers interesting amount of ways to play. You can crawl under cars, under grass. You can break windows and other stuff. And in terms of level design it is also interesting. Story telling and musical accompanement are one of uppermost important features in the game. Story is not too fast and not to hectic. It takes you from the beginning and scurpulously opens its cards. The philosophical idea that lies below the game is interesting. And narrative directors did a really good job. Many times you would think that the game is going to end. But it has more to show you. Sometimes you might get bored but accident plot twist will not allow you to get so. In terms of sounds and musical accompaniement, Gustavo is genious of music. All of the music in the are clearly in phase with the hard and uneasy story. The game will make you cry in some scenes. And the sound of guitar which represents the heaviness of the plot will blow up your emotions. And finally I don`t understand people yelling about this game. I really can`t see minuses except of some minor issues. But at all I can`t see the game by their eyes. Before the game I haven`t entered metacritic to not to destroy my expectations. So my opnion is fully objective. 10/10 magnum opus, great job Naughty dog, I think to repeat such an achievement would be hard. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's no direct spoilers as such but I have put the spoiler warning on just for how I talk about a certain section or two. I have just finished my first playthrough of the Last of Us Part 2 and have played 46 hours and 37 minutes according to my autosave. It is a very worthy sequel to the original which I absolutely adore and is probably my all time favourite game. I absolutely love part 2. I was devastated early on, though I don't think I was surprised though in denial about what may come up until everything transpired, and it actually affected my mood going forward in to the beautiful settle. I suppose I was in a very sombre state and had cried in a way I hadn't cried at a game before. On top of crying, I laughed later on as I came out of my funk and then was in terrified at a section later on in the game. The game plays really well, and I love being able to go prone reminding me a bit of metal gear crawling through the greenery. There's quite a bit of as you'd expect gameplay wise and great story telling as you'd expect with a Naughty Dog game. It threw some unexpected twists as well, playing as other characters to get a different perspective on the situation. It's very gory at times, very bloody and certain things are wince enducing. It's a very brutal world and is portrayed very well and it's a game I highly recommend to anyone that loves story driven games with a stunning world. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Forgive me if this review is hard to understand. I'm not the best at writing. This is my personal take on the ending and why I believe the ending was fantastic. Ellie gained her humanity by not killing abby. She didn't kill someone out of revenge. It took ellie hitting rock bottom to realize that this viscous cycle of hatred just needed to end. It was over. Killing abby wouldn't bring joel back.

Abby and ellie go through the same experiences, just at different times and they handled the situations differently. Abby got her revenge in a brutal way.... but she still felt empty. Killing joel wasn't the solution she thought it would be so ultimately she decides to go back and help Lev and Yara (the queen) as a desperate attempt at some kind of personal redemption. Also, her nightmares about the hospital continue after killing joel.... implying that getting revenge truly did not give her the closure she thought it would. Ellie murdering abby when she's just trying to take care of lev at this point (which is similar to joel taking care of ellie) would have taken everything from her. She would have lost every part of herself that made her human. She would have lost herself beyond redemption. She saw a chance to keep a part of herself (her logic, common sense, human decency, hope, humanity) by not killing abby, and she took it. She realized that the cycle had done nothing but cause death and loss to both her and abby. Abby lost mel, Owen, Nora, and Alice. Ellie lost joel, jj, jesse, and dina. And in a way, abby and ellie lost a part of themselves. Abby lost basically all of her humanity by actually taking revenge. Ellie lost a bit of her humanity and her common sense. She abandoned something she wanted more than anything (a happy family) just to continue the rage cycle. However, she didn't do the same thing they did, which gave her hope and humanity. She didnt continue the viscous cycle. She became better than abby and the other WLFs. She broke the hateful cycle. She made a choice to save what little bit of herself she could. In that moment, it wasn't a game about loss anymore. It was a game about hope and human decency.
