    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has several narrative problems! The event surrounding Joel's death created a bizarre and very poorly crafted storyline. Firstly, because Joel is slaughtered by Abby and her group doesn't kill Tommy and Ellie, knowing that there was a clear possibility that they would want revenge? Since when are they good enough to keep someone out of their group alive? Look at the colossal size of this Deux ex machina in a post-apocalyptic world and CRUEL to CREATE a plot in a forced and stupid way, only blind does not see, I'm sorry, a game focused on history with a hole the size of a crater in the same script this is a shame. Everything that happens after this event is a mountain down, although the game remains in the name of the character that we all like, Ellie, the story creeps into an immense void during her gameplay, with silly confrontations, collection of supplies, infected here and there, blablabla, for later on the part of $ @ # $ # abby you have the best moments of escape, combat and gameplay, and I DEFINITELY did not want to play with this character. The charisma or understanding of this character's "side" was a FAIL in its entirety. Abby has no charisma and had no chance of being able to, she killed the favorite character of many and this is unforgivable, I have no remorse for a mastodon who was the daughter of a doctor who wanted to kill Ellie in the name of a cure that nobody knows if there was going to be.
    The last point is the end of the story, the part with Ellie is excellent and the exploration of that new coastal area is very cool, a different and new air, but damn, when the story ends I think "you went so far, you killed people I **** **** a lot of people to punch and let that slut get away? ", then I say, there is no way a tlou 1 fan can accept this story, even though people like you liked it, but I'm sorry, no give, it's a feeling of hatred for the plot and whoever planned it, because revenge should be completed, this world does not forgive FOR FOOD and silly reasons, will you forgive for killing someone so important? It's like Chris arriving at the end of Resident evil 5 and saying to the wesker "pow, I'm not going to kill you, you are cool"!
    You have a lot of fun gameplay moments, but I'm not going to support these political causes and other idiocies that neil druckmann is trying to impose on people through this game, so my grade is 0, it's a protest grade.    … Expand

    If this wasn't the successor to the best game ever made, probably could get a 6 or a 7, but...it is...and it failed badly. The nice music and visuals doesn't hide the weak gameplay and hollow story. And that´s the problem - TLOU never combined with "hollow story". TLOU II made the franchise "just another zombie game"

    Abandons what everyone loved about the first game to push forced agendas. The game is filled with unlikeable characters and awful things happen to the characters that are likeable. Add on a horrible plot and you have a disappointing and forgettable sequel. Do not buy.

    It tries it's best to destroy the efforts of the past game without providing anything new or creative, game mechanics are the same, characters are poorly written, plot is poorly structured, it's lost all semblence of what was great about the first game.

The bond between Elie and Joel is what makes TLOU franchise unique. When that story fails to deliver in TLOU part 2, then nothing makes this game standout to other games alike, such as uncharted franchise. The story is completely a mess, and trashes the first game built on so much for players to care about. The story is that bad once you enter the first 3 hours segment you may not want to play anymore… Expand

    A huge letdown, this game really did a number on me. I waited 7 years for this, avoided all the spoilers, got myself the special edition and couldn't wait to see what was in store. This game just takes the first one (a masterpiece imo) and burns it, kicks it, stomps on it and spits on it. Characters that were very well founded are so out of their traits its nothing but lazy writing fromA huge letdown, this game really did a number on me. I waited 7 years for this, avoided all the spoilers, got myself the special edition and couldn't wait to see what was in store. Other than that, the game is a complete bore fest, never ending boring cut-scenes, even when you get to play a little every now and then it is boring as hell... It's clear that they focused on lgbtqhd+ acceptance, not the game itself.     What I say in this review will be nothing much different than other creators and honest reviewers have stated. This game pissed me off, but i also thoroughly enjoyed playing it at the same time. The graphics are stunning, easily one of the best looking games from the ps4 with only a title like red dead 2 coming close. The game play, though nearly identical to the first game, was enjoyable for me. I loved the first game so much not only for it's incredible story and character development but I enjoyed the game play as well. It's simple, but fun. Repetitive, but never really got boring for me, I loved it. So the visuals and the game play were incredibly enjoyable for me. What ruined the game for me, and so many other people, was the abysmal storytelling. The premise of the story is not what i'm solely mad at either. It's the way and sequence they told the story that was laughable.
    Killing Joel is something i feel could certainly be done, i almost expected it. But to do it so early, with no build up or setting of the story line, WHY? Playing as Abby as a unknown character didn't anger me at first because i thought they would interlace the story lines side by side so that we could build each character into the way we could care and love each of them. But the game brings you to a climax with the story of Ellie, making us hurt for her and HATE everyone that was a part of Joel's killing. I enjoyed the murder of each of Abby's friends, and I was hoping that a fight would entail to kill Abby right in the theater and end the game. But no, they throw you back to the beginning of the game and force you to grind though another 10-12 hours playing as the character you hate the most! I don't care about this person, I hate this person! I want her to die I don't care about her or her friends well being. Then they try to change her perception from being an **** by saving those kids. But it's far too little, far too late. They absolutely ruined the entire game with not only the forcing of Abby on you, but the way they do it as well. Then while you think they've salvaged up whatever ending they may have left with Ellie able to be happy with Dina and her child, they rope you into another few hours on a mission that only lengthens and ruins the story even more. Not only revoking you of the death you desire of Abby, but stealing any sort of happiness Ellie may have left. Leaving you feeling empty inside, the whole game feeling pointless. Just to wrap up I've seen some people upset at the fact that Ellie is gay and that the scar child is trans.
    There are some little parts in the story that baffled me by it's unnecessary placement, but others i felt were warranted. I feel like Ellie being gay was a good idea, before the trailer came out I figured she would be anyhow. I don't mind the trans placement with the child. I feel like they should've maybe made him a bit older to give more certainty to his choice, but in the context of the story it makes sense. He and his sister became outcasts because of his choice, and that's what brings them to Abby and poses them against their own people and I thought it was interesting. The sex scene though, totally out of left field and unnecessary. It is only even a thing for a few minutes in the next scenes and I feel only put in to make the story seem even more adult. But to put that on top of characters I couldn't care less about, and towards the end of a story I only want to wrap up, it wasn't needed.
    I give this game a 4 solely because of how much I enjoyed going through the mobs as Ellie, trying to get revenge for Joel. This game could've been so much better and after years of waiting it is an utter disappointment. At this point they should've just kept it alone with the first game, at least it left the story at a better place than this.    … Expand

    Pure garbage! Not because of the social issues people are complaining about, I could care less about all that noise. The story of Ellie was complete on part 1, a story based on another part of the world or country would have been the move. Also the game is buggy and unplayable at times.

But, as this game is carried Heavily by the story elements, and because those elements were so trash, I HATED this game. There were a few moments I enjoyed it.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When it comes to the actual experience of the game. It’s second to none. Amazing graphics and animations, superb mechanics, etc.
    But when it comes to the storytelling, the writers have really dropped the ball on this one. I think they forgot what made us love the last of us. We loved the first game because it told a story of two lost individuals trying to survive and the journey that we went with them to finally witness that father-daughter bond that was so unique and yet so heartwarming.
    By making us play with the main antagonist for several hours certainly didn’t help. Abby isn’t a likable character but that isn’t the problem, the problem is that the game tried to force us to like Abby by drawing parallels to Ellie and by sympathizing with Abby cause.
    Another issue is the way that Joel was killed wasn’t the proper way to kill the main protagonist in the first game. (Btw I’m glad they didn’t do a happy ending to him otherwise it would be too boring and predictable)
    There are many examples to how to kill off a main character in other movies, games, etc. and I think most of them are better than we saw in the game.
    Beating Joel to death with barely any resistance at all is unlike Joel (the guy who fought through the world in the first game). Another issue is with Dina.
    Dina’s personality seems perfect for Ellie as the supporter of a vengeful bit#h lol.
    Yet the chemistry between both of them is off. Dina just doesn’t seem like the right one for Ellie and that becomes more apparent as you progress through the game. Dina is a tough, peaceful family woman.
    Yet Ellie is a warrior who fought through a lot of trauma just to survive. I really hope that Ellie’s soulmate can be someone that truly understands what Ellie has been through since she was born.
    I’m sure there are a lot of problems with the game that I didn’t touch on and I apologize for this being more of a rant lol but this shows how much I was disappointed.
    To conclude, I honestly do not trust naughty dog with a third game. A dlc would be fine just to tie the loose ends and not ruin the game more for me    … Expand

    almost all the leaks before release were correct yet there were people going around saying that none of the leaks were true.
    the story is written AND structured poorly.

    if your gonna kill a major character you need to do it correctly, if ND had done it halfway through it would have been better. They also needed build Abbys backstory and motivations on why she would want to kill Joel BEFORE not AFTER. because of this ALL of Abby's gameplay sections are boring/unmotivating

    the ending is extremely unsatisfying since Abby wasn't killed or at the minimum injured severely only Ellie (who lost the last thing that connected her to Joel, being able to play Guitar).

    the entire message of the game is "revenge cycle is bad" but this game doesn't do that troupe any justice at all. there's significantly better stories/anime/games out there with this exact plot point that do it better then TLoU2.

    DON'T BUY.

Keeping the proportions is like criticizing Michelangelo for making David to skinny or something. In my opinion is a great game. Worth waiting for the great finale. Part 3.

Seriously I can go on and on and on about how bad this game is but my advice is if you want actually good game graphics and good stories and good game play then there are plenty of other games that are worth your money such as God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and even Days Gone.     This game is undeniably beautiful. the graphics, animation, sound design and music are top notch. Some gameplay scenes look straight up like cut scenes and the transition between those two are flawless most of the times. The game gives you a lot of options in the menu to ensure the game is available for everyone to play. The dogs added make enemies with a higher first-kill priority, together with more options to move by jumping and crawling, the game appears to involve a lot of quick strategic thinking. A new type of infected adds to it.
    But in The Last of Us, gameplay isn't the priority and most fans of the first game bought the second one for the characters and story. The sequel had high expectations on it's back and they grew the more time passed. Obviously meeting these expectations isn't an easy feat and have mostly not been met based on what has been promised and not delivered.
    Horror and survival fall in to th background as human interaction and conflict takes it's place. In it's purest form, this sequel follows the structure of a typical Drama. You know those books which have been played in european theatres hundreds of years ago. Yeah those, this form of storytelling has been ancient since Bertolt Brecht brought up change.
    Before I get to my personal opinion, I'd like to point out that I myself am a female gamer who is part of the LGBTQ community and thus I'm glad they added social political statements to normalize them in our society. There is criticism I'd like to add about the execution though.
    Now to my personal opinion:
    I watched The Last Of Us the same as Ellie was in the first game back when it was released on Youtube. Although I've been a fan of the game, marking it as one of my favorite game ever since, I forgot a lot about Joel and Ellies relationship in those 7 years. Needless to say, the first shock element in this game didn't work at all. It came far too early to establish any meaning. However, it's also been the only fuel of the story. it's the kind of plot you can put in any world building, even in those that don't have world building. This plot is known to have an obvious ending. The lack of good characters just add to the mess. For a game called The 'Last' of Us, there are too many living people. There are so many characters I couldn't care less about, even when the game tried to make me care. The story likes to jump in time and place, present to backflash, from Ellie to the second protagonist, and vice versa. It's annoying. The first game never did any backflashes and it worked out great despite it. I bet it would've been possible to achieve the goal the developers had without having to play a completely different character. After all we've never played as the Fire Flies in the first game and we still knew they do good.
    Now to the one part that probably gets me discredited. We know Ellie likes girls, from the dlc, so do I. I'm not a fan of romance. It wasn't needed in this game to workout. It could've done without or at least much milder. The one straight nude love scene didn't have to happen either. Well, if the game was supposed to resemble the first one. It's not. I accept that.
    All in all the game can never be a 10/10, neither a 4/10 if 5/10 is considered average. It's performance and execution is above average, at a 7/10 or 8/10 but my enjoyment beneath all else and my disappointment even higher. I might have scored it objectively, thats not what user reviews is about though. 2/3 of the game is about characters and story and those got 1 points from me, leaving it at a 4/10 for the amazing technical execution.    … Expand

    I made an account just to say this game is **** stupid. Kill off the most beloved character less than 2 hours into the game and the rest of the story is "revenge bad". If you really want to play this game, buy it 2nd hand/used. Don't dump 60 dollars on this dumpster fire.

    Gameplay is basically the same as the first game from 7 years ago except NOW YOU CAN PRONE!! WOW!!! INNOVATIVE!!

I wouldn't not recommend this game.

    She gets upset and goes on a rampage of revenge. She Kill's a couple of Abby's Friends which didn't really have much to do with the whole **** show other than being willing witnesses.

    Good Graphics and Good Performance is equal to 3 stars. Only 1/4 of the story is 1 more star. The rest of the game is disgusting with poorly written story (3/4), Agendas, and the disgusting way Naughty Dog designed the female characters.

If ND is interested in narrative experimentation in playing as a character's killer, then I think a new IP would have been the place to do it. Don't spit in the face of the fans. I loved TLOU 1. I love that it told us about hope in a world of despair. I love that it had memorable, precious moments between characters, but this game is MISERABLE.     This franchise is all about the story. Without the story the game means nothing. This game does have great visuals and great gameplay, but the main focus needs to be the story. The story just isn’t good and it tries too hard to make you feel sorry for people that you immediately don’t want to feel sorry for. And the ending tries so hard to make you feel sad, without making any logical sense.
    bsolute disrespect towards the 1st game. The story and the characters are so horribly written that it doesn't even make me angry anymore, just sad. There is nothing new in the gameplay we haven't seen already in other games. The only thing that's truly great about this game are the graphics. But that's it. The quality of the story rivals the story of Star Wars VIII: The last jedi. And i didn't even mention the forced SJW/gender propaganda (however, these are not the core problems of the game).
    Verdict: 4/10 (just because the graphics are amazing).
    - If you're looking for a great story, AVOID this game.
    - If you're a fan of the story and characters of the 1st tlou, AVOID this game.
    - If you don't like it when someone spits in your (or Joel's) face, AVOID this game.
    - If you don't care about the franchise and the future of gaming at all and all you seek are the
