So dissapointed , play tlou1 story is so good, relationship between joel and ellie grow closer till end game and make me not boring replay new game several time. But this new tlou2 story just hit so low, its asked ellie to make peace with her 'father' killer at end, its about oh okay since my important person is killed so i kill your andthat make us understand each other so lets not kill each other at end.

    My suggest it finish yourself, uninstall and play other game. Not gonna replay new game since bad story and will forget soon unlike tlou1 ,,,- one best story game i ever play-    … Expand

However, they HAD to **** things up. First of all, the history. Since this is a review without spoilers, I'll just go ahead and tell that's just idiotic. You can't relate with the characters, most of them are just bland and don't really add anything to the plot. Even Ellie, the main character of the game seems to be a boring version of herself. Boring characters, can't relate with them, can't suffer what they suffer. Ironically, the only character I can relate with is Joel.

    Now, the gameplay... We've been waiting for 7 years, almost 2 generations, and the "New" mechanics they added WERE LITERALLY MGS FOR THE PS1 MECHANICS (Yeeting into the grass and jumping). ARE YOU ****ING SERIOUS? WE CRITICIZED COD GHOSTS FOR ADDING DOGS AS A NEW MECHANICS, BUT ARE WE GONNA PRAISE TLOU2 FOR THE EXACT SAME THING?!
    No, seriously, y'all remember when Battlefield 4 came out, and you could literally destroy a 20 floor building to change the map in a PS3? TLOU2 with 7 years and almost 2 generations can't even add an interesting mechanic.
    In a playable level, TLOU2 it's a PS2 game. God of War 2 had a more in-depth mechanics, let's not even talk about Metal Gear Solid.
    My conclusion: Don't waste your money in this game, seriously. It has absolutely 0 re-jugability. There's nothing that could interest you in making a second run, other than the virtual difficulty. You can't take different options, there's not a large arsenal that could change significantly your playing mode and etc. If you want to buy a new game, I personally recommend you RdR 2, since it's just a better game in all ways. Or even better, buy an old game (Like Dark Souls or Battlefield 4) since they are for sure being a better investment for a cheaper price, having significantly more hours of fun.
    At the end of the day, things like these may disappoint us, the people who actually play videogames, but YouTube/Twitch/TV are for sure gonna love it. TLOU2 is going to be a GOTY and will attract a lot of people who are not even related with the world of gaming just because it's a """Different""" game. I don't really care if Ellie's lesbian, if there's a Jew character of if there's a Trans. Seriously, I give 0 **** about that. So to all of those kids who criticize the game for being too "LGBT inclusive", **** off. The game is mediocre not because it's inclusive, but it's made to call the attention of the media. Talking about controversial things like LGBT community or transexuals always makes an endless argue, and naughty dog knows that. Just accept there's people who wants to live their life's however they want, and even if there are some people who like to call the attention by being controversial; just ignore them, they are literally trolls.

    Some games are so bad at launch that they turn it around later on like with Fallout, I don't see anyway to save thing aside from a whole new DLC that is an alternative story... bad....just a bad bad game!     Some of the worst writing I have ever seen in a game. No respect for character development or the original story/lore. This seems like Druckman just doing what he wants giving **** all about if it makes sense or works within context. Predictable as hell, painfully linear and god awful execution. Avoid this garbage fire at all costs. If you need a good ps4 game to play, pick up Persona 5 Royal.

Although being brutally beaten to death in front of Ellie is a slap to the face to the character and the fans. Joel & Tommy would’ve never been that complacent. The game play/mechanics are amazing, but I can’t get passed how Joel was killed. Then out of nowhere you play as Abby for 10hours!? Another slap to the face. Then to top it off Ellie let’s her go at the end. The motivation to excel in the game is to get revenge... and you let her go? Makes Ellie look weak and ignorant. Ellie lost everything... Joel (father figure), her gf (&JJ), 2 fingers bitten off (now she can’t play guitar), Tommy lost an eye, and SHE DIDN'T AVENGE JOEL!!!! That’s a slap to the face to Tommy’s character as well. She had no problem killing everyone else but the one person that started it all gets to go free? It was poorly written. I think they had some administrative issues within ND that was prolonging the release and they quickly slapped together this trash. I feel personally let down. As do many other gamers. I think the fact that this game was so horrible should reflect on Neil Druckman’s work ethic and it should cost him his job position at ND. He’s so out of touch with the characters, he should’ve never made a Part 2. I’m done with ND games. I hope they see this review..... YOU LET US ALL DOWN!… Expand

    they did well in the beginning ... after playing around 12 hours, I felt that it was not what I expected I stopped playing and I only ended up watching the cinematic on YouTube, thank God I did it because the end is ****

But I finished it, and that was my biggest mistake. The ending was completely disappointing. The ending seriously just pissed me off to the point of Selling the game. The best graphics from the current generation of consoles, although decently cut from the time of the trailer, is a normal plot, time-tested solid gameplay. But in all of this there is one BUT, and this is not even a continuation for the waiters, this is banal broken storyline curve from which there is only one question why shouldn't I must care?) Someone said that Drackmann was inspired by Nolan and therefore made such an arrangement of plot scenes and flashbacks. But it all reminds me of the level of some newcomer who decided not to shove something in.) Maybe it was such an idea that people cause a fifth point to be undermined, but the point of spoiling the work for the sake of this remains a big mystery to me) If you look at the whole storyline problem, then we have heroes from the last game, to which we have emotions and in this part there is a continuation about them in the form of flashbacks in front of the main plot of the game. And the question is why shove these flashbacks where one of the heroes has already left forever?) Here we look at these flashbacks, but there is no emotional response because the hero is already end. The second point, we have an antagonist who stands out half of the game, why shove it after what made it the antoganist of the game?) Not only doesn’t you want to play for so long because of bias, it’s annoying when the authors are trying to impose on us the idea that the antagonist is not so bad and that everything is not so simple in this sinful life) Again, to some extent, the intrigue is lost. And now all this crookedness strongly hits the rest of the positive part of the game. These problems, which are not the only ones, make a slurred game with incorrectly placed accents, which is why it is not interesting to look at old heroes, but simply do not care about new ones.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me preface this review with my low score has nothing to do with politics. Everyone should have representation in gaming. I don’t want my review to be disregarded as a “review bomb” or that I’m a bigot for not liking the game. I wanna get the technical aspects of the game out of the way. Hands down this is one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played. ND has crafted a beautiful world filled with detail. Every new scene makes you go “wow” The detail crafted into the world and the game is stunning. Characters look super detailed and you can really appreciate the effort that went into them when you look at the model viewer. Animations are so fluid and feel so natural. The way foliage moves and bends as your character walks through is crazy. So many times I’ve seen games where I try to do something in the world they’ve crafted and I can’t. So many times in this game have I said “I bet I can’t do X” to immediately perform X animation and it left me stunned. This game world looks and feels real. Hands down this game is a beautifully crafted technical masterpiece. That being said I did NOT buy the game for the visuals or the gameplay. For a game like this I consider it a plus if Its good or fun to play. TLOU1 had an amazing story with a lot of tedious moments and puzzles but its worth playing again and again just for the story. I find myself replaying TLOU1 and loving it even though how tedious some of it is. TLOU2 is about 24-26 hours long depending on how fast you move through it. Last of Us Part 1 is about 13-16 hours long. I mentioned that because in the TLOU1 I feel there is never a dull moment. The pacing is quick and keeps you engaged constantly. In TLOU2 it feels like it has A LOT of boring padding. There was so many times I said “please let this part be different.” “What’s the point of this?” “please stop padding the game and let’s just continue the story.” Let’s talk about the characters. TLOU1 has a small strong cast of characters. They’re all memorable and iconic. In the TLOU2 there were so many times I was like “who is this again” “why do I care about their death?” “We only saw them moments earlier and they had no development.” “why introduce new characters this late in the game? I don’t care about them.” I feel there are moments in the game that should be rearranged. We kill characters then get to know them as Abby. Shouldn’t it be the other way around so we feel bad about it? Most of Abbys friends feel the same. I couldn’t really remember if I had killed them as Ellie or not. They just felt pointless. The game feels packed to the gills with people and not in a good way. I killed so many people and felt nothing. It all felt pointless. Give me a small cast of characters and make me feel for them. Don’t make me kill 20 people and then show they had friends and family. That’s not the right way to tell a story at all. The reason Joel’s death is so hard hitting is because we journeyed with him across the country. We’ve been through hell with him. His death feels cheap and and is where the running start of the game trips and falls. When Abby kills Joel you burn like Ellie does. You want blood. How could ND just kill off such a well written character only to replace him with 4 that we have no time to get to know before they die? So you set off to kill Abby. Then the game switches your control over to Abby. At this point I honestly thought about stopping the game but continued. Honestly they should have taken an entire game to develop Abby and her friends. I wouldn’t have even been mad if this title was a spin off that didn’t have Joel or Ellie in it at all. This game has too many ideas to really do anything with. The bones of the story are okay though. The execution is not. Okay most of the gameplay is tedious and makes you beg for it to end and the story has A LOT of issues. So I ask what is the point of the game? Abby let’s Ellie live soooo many times just to be surprised to see her. It’s ludicrous. Ellie literally threw her happy family away with Dina just to kill Abby and then to not even kill her? Also what happened to Dina and JJ. you’re telling me they really cleaned out the house and moved? In a zombie filled world they packed the uhaul and just moved? Abby threw her life away for two people she knew for less than 2 days? Makes no sense. Lev and his sister were introduced too late to be meaningful. I honestly didn’t care for them at all. This game has too many “oh the humanity the tragedy of revenge!” Points in it and feels pretentious. And the end of the game I just felt hollow and disappointed and unfulfilled. I kept saying “what was the point of this game?” They didn’t need to make this game. I feel like I wasted my time and games shouldn’t make you feel like that. You should feel accomplished for beating it not empty. This is not worth a buy IMHO.… Expand

    Loved the first game, intact it was my favourite game of the PS3 era. Been looking forward to this for years and when it got delayed a months ago was bitterly disappointed., but nowhere near as disappointed as I am now after playing this horror show!

    The way that Joel has been sacrificed in this game is criminal, you don't even get to play as him. Barely 2 hours into the game he get killed off it the most ridiculous way possible by a character you then have to take the role of. Abby isn't even a likable character.

    This killing is equivalent of having Obi Wan killed off by Jar Jar Binks in star wars, or Marty Mcfly Beaten to death by biff in Back to the future, it just doesn't make sense!

    The only redeeming for this game is th that graphically it is outstanding, but that really is its onky saving grace    … Expand

    At first I thought all the negative reviews were due to the LGBT themes and disagreed with them entirely and was really enjoying the game. For the first half of the game, I'd have given it a solid 8/9.     The story is terrible. Naughty Dogs intentionally told the story in such a way to display how "artistic" they are. What they don't realize is that they have lost the ability to distinguish good stories from bad ones. The rest of the game is fine, but the story makes the experience unenjoyable.

    I give it such a low score because the most important aspect in these kind of games are the story and characters, and they are just atrocious in this game, some of the worst I've ever seen. I definitely can't recommend this game, not even on sale.

    Having just completed the game yesterday I today made a Metacritic account just to express my feelings about this experience. I had huge anticipation for this game going into it with no knowledge of leaks or spoilers and I can say it starts out fantastic. Joel's death evoked emotion and was certainly a catalyst for me to want to keep playing, wanting justice for him and closure. (But it was completely out of character for Joel and Tommy to reveal their names and settlement so easily to a group of strangers) Exploring Seattle as Ellie was fun and felt nostalgic to the first game but this is where my praise for The Last Of Us II ends.

    They then throw you into the shoes of the one who brutally tortured and killed Joel and try to make you like or even care about this character and from here the pacing of the game also falls apart. Suddenly you get tons of pills and parts as Abby (I played on survivor so I was used to scarce supplies.) This made game play as Abby feel halfhearted as the sudden resource explosion rushes you down her skill paths and weapon upgrades. But here's the thing with playing as Abby: I DON'T CARE. It was disappointing to play such a huge portion of the game as a character I have no feelings for. I was always asking myself when can I get back to playing as Ellie or at least Tommy, someone that I actually care about. The further I played as Abby the more disdain I had for her. Holding light that maybe by the end of the game we'd get to see Ellie finally finish her. I hoped that Ellie would kill Abby cleanly and not torture her to show she's above that, but what we got instead was horrific.

    Making you actually attack and choke out Ellie was heartbreaking, that whole fight should have just been a cut-scene because I had no want in actually playing through its scripted sequences. After this the ante has just been upped: Abby has now also killed Tommy (at this point you see her shoot him in the head so have no idea that he'd survive) and Jesse.

    OKAY *Takes breath* Can I finally play as Ellie now? Yes, but let's just skip the whole journey south to California, throw in some generic baddies at the end (Rattlers) and wow we're here as Ellie in our long awaited confrontation with Abby. Finally is this the moment I've been waiting for and slogging through all the previous Abby game play to get to? Would this be the redeeming factor to this game and the final closure needed? No. Ellie let's Abby go after everything. But before that happens they tease you with letting you stab a knife into Abby and then begin to drown her. I wanted to give Abby a clean death but as the knife was lost at this point in the fight, drowning will have to do but nope the script takes over and Ellie let's her out of the water at the last moment. Wow...

    A better ending would have been to finish the drowning and then have Ellie bury Abby with a makeshift cross rather than just leaving her body. That would have been justified and a good closure to the game. Lev is plenty capable of surviving without Abby and this would leave it open for DLC or the next game as Lev waking up and finding Abby's grave but not remembering what happened.

    I guess I can take solace that the prisoners did say Abby was bit, so if that's true she'll die soon enough but is that proper closure? Not for me. Sorry.    … Expand

    Mientras mas avanzamos en la historia vamos conociendo los motivos, señales de ello, atraves de flashback.
    La historia concluye de manera asombrosa, las escenas finales entre Joel y Ellie nos explican los motivos de Ellie, es un juego demasiado profundo comparado con el primero, pero de ninguna manera supera su primera entrega.
    El juego no esta hecho para cualquier persona, tienes que jugarlo con la mente abierta, tienes que entender que Joel y Ellie no lo son todos, no son ni Rick ni Carl, ellos son dos personas mas en un mundo cruel y violento, respecto a que la muerte de Joel no haya sido epica, a caso el es un heroe de alguna historia? El es otro superviviente mas que debe pagar las decisiones egoistas que ni Ellie logro aceptar.

The graphics and voice acting are also good. The story in my opinion are what ruin this game for me. I expected for Joel to die, but this was not the way to kill him off. Then right after you HAVE to play as Abby, for like more than half the game. I HATED playing as Abby, i did not connect with her in any way or feel anything for that character. They should of fleshed her out more before she killed Joel off. To be forced to play as a person you despise is not fun in my opinion....it felt like a chore doing her story. The game forces you to kill a dog and then makes the effort to make you feel like crap about it when you had no choice in the matter. I encountered weird bug in the section where you have to kill the dog, i fell from vent, dog attacks but before he attacks i get shot in head by an invisible person and it was an endless death loop of me getting shot. Replayed chapter and got through dog part to realize there were no other people around in the area....so who shot me??? Ellie goes through all this revenge story killing tons of people and the end she lets Abby go, after tracking her down a second time? Just doesn't make sense. If you are trying to convey that revenge causes more problems than its worth there are better ways of conveying that. Ending was unsatisfying and overall when i was done playing the game i felt as depressed as Ellie did as the game came to a close. I would say this is a pass until it becomes cheaper.… Expand

    Number 1. Everything what you loved about this game, the relation between Joel and Ellie will be gone within the first our of playtime. All the foundation you build up through the first game within the worlds strong atmosphere and set pieces, this really made it difficult for me to actually continue on playing.
    Number 2. I actually played a lot of the multiplayer in the first game bsck on the PS3.
    The abscense of a multiplayer makes it only worse. This game was so well crafted when it came to its dedicated MLG maps, progression system, weapon feel, playstyles, to some extend I considered this one of the better multiplayer games. My point is, even IF (hypothetically speaking) TLOU was a BAD GAME, I would have still been glued on my chair for its addicting multiplayer component. TLOU2 has no multiplayer so less content for the same money. I usually play games like Battlefield and Call of Duty competitive and if we had to rely on its single player completely, it would have been mediocre at best. Hence why the multiplayer does justice (those single players are plain trash I uaually like games like Darkness and Bioshock instead).
    Number 3. In case you're a cuck who says "HaVe YoU pLaYeD iT?" stop humiliating and contradicting yourself. You don't need to play a game like E.T. for two hours to realise it's bad. The same applies for this game, and pretty any game really. You're not going to tell me that if you don't like a sports, racing, fighting game that I (anyone) have to play it for 10+ hours to form an opinion if I just have no interest in the core gameplay. Yes, in theory, the last three hours could be the best hours of your entire life. However, I did only feel pessimism at every second whenever I had to keep on playing what the writers did to Joel. I went back to the retailer why I was upset, and I got my money back. Now I'm stuck with a TLOU2 tophy list on one of my dummy accounts that I can never remove. It feels like a confrontation whenever someone can see this on my list. I really feel letdown by Naughty Dog. I played since I was very young both Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter on my PS2 (PS2 is backwards compatible so no I didn't need a PS1 to play PS1 games), up until Uncharted 1, 2, 3, 4 and the first Last of Us.
    Number 4.Yes, the game does function but it adds very little in comparison to ALL Naughty Dog games. So why bother having a game fhat really ruined the first game, and is inferior on many fundemental fronts. If you want a game like this that is actually good and recent, go with Uncharted 4, Last of Us 1, God of War 2018, just a few games that don't ruin your mood and really do praise to both old and new fans.

    This is a game I play for the story. Its what drove me in the first one. It's what Sony has been killing it I'm the single player story driven games. The story in this game though ruined all the magick for me. Its akin to the same feeling I got from GoT and the New Star Wars. Just bitter disappointment. I can not I'm good faith recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed the first title. ForThis is a game I play for the story. Its what drove me in the first one. Joel does what he has to to save his daughter from death and the doctors daughter travels across the country years later and kills him in cold blood in front of his daughter. There wasn't a guarantee "the cure" would have worked and the doctor wouldn't have sacrificed his own daughter... ! I'm very disappointed by this sequel I've been looking forward to for years. TERRIBLE writing, horrible characters, they even managed to ruin Ellie.

    The forced turns of events were really hard to take and then this horrible person through sympathetic sappy BS was the last straw. Perhaps i will finish this some day, i sure spent enough on it, but it wont be today. I cant believe i have buyers remorse on the sequel to my favorite game of all time. Shame on you Naughty Dog!

    Gave 4 points for game play then took away 3 as im so disappointed i cant stomach playing it.

    Gameplay and graphics worse than games released years ago. I've played games of 2015 with more beautiful graphics and better scripts.

    The script for this game is a bad joke. It was better to stop at the first game.

I bought a PS4 because of Naughty Dog. And while LOU2 is stunning and very well polished it adds very little to the gameplay, which feels outdated at this point and the story is absolutely awful.     They make a RANDOM CHARACTER (Abby) that kills joel right at the beginning of the game and then THEY FORCE YOU TO PLAY AS HER FOR HALF OF THE GODDAMN GAME!

    Graphics are amazing.
    Has been pointed out by many, no need to talk about this anymore.
    The voice over acting is very good.
    Music is nice, but some more fitting 'mood music', while fighting through the different areas,
    would have been even nicer.

    The gameplay is not that much different to TLOU.
    Some minor improvements, but nothing spectacular.
    Feels familiar and I can't say it really bothers me that much.

    Now, the story.
    If you look at the game as a pretty lengthy DLC, the story is actually ok.
    A tale of revenge and its consequences.
    The moral being delivered might not suit everyone, but there has been worse.

    The problem is though, there is no game that preceded this DLC.

    Imagine TLOU2 being about Joel and Ellie diving deeper into the questions that actual matter in this universe. Being it a potential cure, the 'actual' origin and events of this apocalypse or anything else that actually had a major impact on the universe.
    What if there are more people like Ellie? It would put the actions of the known characters in a different light.
    After the game would have dealt with those things, this DLC could have been a nice fit to wrap things up.

    But this is not what the players got.
    What we got was a vehicle to transport a message.
    Which again, might be fitting for a DLC.

    The whole experience feels artificially stretched.
    You can tell what type of enemies will be around the next corner or fence.
    You fought the infected in the previous section? Time to frag some humans now.
    Rinse and repeat.
    Cut out the repetitions, and you end up with a 10 hour DLC.

    The experience just felt shallow.

    Flashbacks can be a nice way to provide additional insight on a character's motivation.
    Here, they feel like an excuse for not being able to deliver a immerse game in the first place.
    You go back and forth and it feels irrelevant.
    There's no bonding with characters, no matter how many flashbacks you go through.
    Flashbacks may add some additional insight in other games, here, they provide the only insight and it feels hollow.

    Would players be able to bond with Abby?
    Would players be able to understand how the death of her dad turned her into the person she's portrayed as?
    I'd say, yes, absolutely!

    But you don't get the chance to do so.
    The time spent playing Abby is wasted by rescuing people you care even less about.
    People that have no actual impact on the rest of the story or the character development.
    The latter was probably the intention, but the game never manages to pull this off.

    The devs and all the work they put into the technical aspects of the game would have deserved a much better story. I would be disappointed (to say the least) as, for example, an environmental artist, that my excellent work is being held hostage by this story. The story and character development made TLOU great for many players. The impressive technical accomplishments, by that time, were the cherry on top. TLOU2 delivers on the cherry part, but the cake is just awfully undercooked.    … Expand

    save your money. IT will be 10 bucks in a couple of weeks. I cant believe that naughty dog has gone this woke way and destroyed what could of been an amazing franchise. Hopefully this is a wake up call to all the other studios thinking about making a game with pure wokeness

So good, there are 4-hour edited "movies" of it. This game could have been good. They could have made Abby a villain and she would have been a 3-dimensional villain. But they played her as the protagonist and failed. IMany games work off their gameplay with story as secondary. I don't know why Abby got away, getting her revenge and Ellie didn't, this game is gonna scar me forever knowing that we won't ever get to see Abby again, making us sympathize for her and Lev is so pathetic and a reach. Killing nearly a hundred people for no reason, literally that's what it feels like. Joel said at the end said "I'll do it all over again" I believe, ut Ellie wouldn't in assuming.… Expand
