This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's hard to give this game a fair shake due to all the controversy, from the leaks to behavior of Sony and Naughty Dog to the blatant lying and spread of misinformation by the access media. Even some misleading information from the official trailers. That said, let's give it a shot.

Story, not a fan, there are so many problems here, let's begin.

The players that don't make it past Joel's death cannot be blamed for that, nor should they be blamed for making their reviews solely on that event alone. The set up abandoned all of Joel's character building from the first, it was disrespectful to his character and ultimately, has no payoff by the end of the game. This is the first event that literally persuades the player from not continuing the game, and it's a big one.

Next, Abby. Her character design is particularly strange. There's absolutely nothing that makes you like her and empathize with her. I hate to say she's agenda driven, but that's the only thing that seems to make sense in her design. To put it as simple as possible, she was created to kill Joel. Why anyone would expect you to like and empathize with her after that is ludicrous. She is the antagonist, plain and simple. We hate her.

So she let's Ellie survive and you spend half the game trying to get close to her again. Could feel like the whole game for some people, and this is where you meet your next big scenario that makes you want to stop playing the game for good. You finally end up in a scenario with Abby, you expect some big fight is going to happen, it's an intense moment, you don't know what's gonna happen because you don't have the upper hand and what happens??? It fades to black and suddenly your playing Abby's backstory and your first thought it WHAT THE EFF?? Second thought is, I DON'T CARE. Then you are overcome with the desire to simply quit playing.

So you somehow go through all that, you get to the end of the game hoping something will make it worth it and then comes the final slap in the face. Ellie loves playing the guitar, it's her thing, it was in her trailers and marketing and had a few special moments throughout the game. Then what happens? You fight with Abby, she effing bites your fingers off and despite her killing Joel, and all the killing Ellie had to do to even get here, she let's Abby go.

What was even the point of it all? WHAT WAS THE POINT!? Where's the payoff to killing Joel early in the story? Why make you play as Abby? She was irredeemable for anyone invested in these characters and franchise. Okay, Joel killer her father, but why did he do it? Self-defense? To protect Ellie??? Here we have a game about revenge that begins with Abby taking hers and then Ellie is like naw???? Tell me how this makes sense? Worst of all is the final salt in your wounds when Ellie can no longer play her guitar.

Atmosphere and graphics are perfectly set and gorgeous. Anyone saying this isn't one of the best looking games on PS4 would be disingenuous. The graphics don't save the game by any means, but they certainly bring the score up and that's about all I have to say on that.

Gameplay? I mean you're forced to kill a dog. That really sucks. Game loves making you do things and then feel bad for them. Plays better than it's predecessor but still gets repetitious and somewhat boring. Especially the latter half of the game because if you're still motivated to play at that point, all you want to do is get to the end.

This game was a massive disappointment primarily due to the story decisions. The story is objectively bad and it makes you feel bad for playing through it. The only thing I am personally thankful for is that I am not invested in these characters like so many others. With that said, I am still heartbroken for Joel and Ellie.

In closing, I'll say that while this game may sell well, the fans will not support a third entry. The bridge is burning and there's nothing that can be done to save it.

This game should not exist. Neil Suckman should be ashamed for lying to the true fans of TLOU. Using Joel to sell the game because they knew no one would buy it if they had just come out straight with Abby being part of the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow... just wow. I struggle to put my disappointment into words Because this was one of the angriest I’ve ever been playing a video game. I played the first last of us back when it came out in 2013 and absolutely loved it. The characters were flawed but like-able, the banter between Joel and Ellie was funny and heartfelt, and the story was phenomenal. You could say I was excited for the sequel to this game but honestly it’d be an understatement. So when i played and beat the 20 or so hour long story of the Last of Us 2 you could probably imagine how i reacted when Everything I loved about the last game this game was completely devoid of. The first gut-punch was the killing off of Joel a mere couple of hours into this gruelingly long game, I understand you don’t always get what you want when it comes to games and who they kill off but i felt this was completely unnecessary especially since it happened so early and at the hands of a new character. Who is this new character? Well she’s the main antagonist of the game, you wouldn’t know that though seeing as how you spend more time playing as her then you do fighting her. Meet Abby, a jacked female WLF soldier and her band of fellow less important WLF soldiers. (who despite playing a pretty big role in Joels death get killed in either a cutscene, quicktime event, or by the hands of someone other than Ellie.) I don’t know what Naughty dog was trying to do with these antagonists however because despite how much of Abby’s and their backstory I learned or how much i played with her, I still didn’t care and I still wanted to kill her. It almost seems like the only reason we get to play as Abby is to make the game longer than it has to be. Anyways throughout this game you spend 20+ hours playing as both Abby and Ellie, who’s relationship is complicated Because despite hating, fighting, shooting, and stabbing at each other throughout basically the entirety of the game never actually bring themselves to kill one-another. It’s like I as a player had no control over any of the characters actions, because I for one wanted to kill Abby the entire time so when finally Ellie gets her chance to at the very end of the game she chickens out and lets her live at the last second, atleast the gameplay is fun and the graphics are good though right? 1/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being honest here. The game Is **** The pros come from the graphics and game play. Other than that the game fails. From forced political agenda to horrible story writing. To be clear Im not a homophobic or transphobic person. I have plenty of gay and trans friends, the problem though is the game forces it into your brain with a hammer and nail expecting a pat on the back for its courageous effort. Second problem is the story itself. Joel dies within the first few hours, now im not upset that he died im upset with how he died. By some random character not explained or mentioned in the first game who threw a temper tantrum because Joel killed her daddy because he was literally about to butcher Ellie without even thinking to ask If Ellie wanted to go through with it. Ellie in the first game I think would definitely sacrificed her self for the cure if given the choice, but she doesn't get a say and Joel has to save her. Not to mention Joel dies stupidly Joel from the first game would never trust random strangers so easily or give his real name out so carefree. THEN afterwords im forced to play about 10+ hours of abby who at this point who i **** despise and they make no attempt to make me have sympathy to words her. The true fans and people who loved the first game and the relationship between Ellie and Joel Hate this game because it ****s on the first game. In the first game when it revealed Ellie was gay that was fine because it was subtle but there, yet this game it shoves all the SJW agenda down your throat. If they had built up Joel's death slowly while giving us some motivation for abby while building her character and have us develop sympathy for her maybe once Joel trusts abby and reveals his true name thats what sparks her anger again but plans it out instead of just beating him with a golf club in the first hours of the game THAT would have had fans respond alot better than the current game maybe even better have Abby be conflicted about killing Joel once he shows his kindness and compassion for those close to him and have her have second thoughts about revenge but no shes a black and white character with no feelings or sympathy to her in duller than a wooden sword. This isnt a **** bot this is a real person with there true thoughts about that game if this gets removed or silenced by metacritic it just proves they cant handle criticism and are children who pitch a fit when there agenda falls short Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics: Graphically this game is stunning in every way. The attention to detail is so in-depth that it is easy to see how much love and care was put into this department. This is without a doubt the highlight of this game.

Gameplay: The mechanics in this game feels very repetitive and almost completely similar to the prior installment. It's a constant move around loot and shoot, with some occasional puzzles in between. There are points in the game where it feels like the gameplay comes to a very slow halt for a time.

Story: The story starts rather nice and feels like a very warm welcome to a long-desired game. However, this welcome is soon spoiled by the very controversial scene in which Abby kills off Joel. His death feels rather early and shoe-horned in to move the plot along. The story feels all over the place in the middle to end game. You spend time making connections to characters with Abby, all while knowing they are going to die later on, because of Ellie's section of the story you know that these characters meet their fate at Ellie's hands. You basically kill a character to learn about hem 2 to 4 hours later in the game. Now, the ending of the game I know most are upset with, I understand why they feel this. You spend upwards of 20 hours in a revenge plot for Ellie to kill Abby, and right when you are about to achieve this goal it feels like a total slap to the face when Ellie spares Abby instead of getting her revenge. However, I understand that by this point in the story that Ellie might not want to kill anymore, she's been traumatized by Joel's death and witnessing the many losses of her friends. The only point in this game where the story feels actually well told is during the flashbacks, Abby included, seeing the duo of Joel and Ellie again is enough to bring a tear to your eye. Just seeing the father-daughter connection again made me smile for a short time.

Characters: Almost no character in this story is ever actually developed, minus Abby, Ellie, and Lev. The side characters that travel along with you get very sudden and stupid deaths. Just about every time someones dies in this game, they are never mentioned again. Abby's reaction to seeing Manny die in front of her is just to run away, she never even says his name or mentions anything about him ever again. This formula sticks to every side character that dies. As I've said prior, the characters are barely fleshed out at all, and the little you do learn about them is pointless.

Voice Acting: The voice acting in this game is fairly decent, minus some parts in which there is some rather odd dialogue that just feels out of place.

Overall, I feel if the story was told in a reorganized manner (No plot elements changed) so that the story flows better, I could've enjoyed the game a bit more. Characters that I want to make a connection with just feel hollow, like cardboard cutouts. The gameplay can be repetitive and boring at times. The graphics really carry this game to the best it possibly can.

I have beaten the game, bought it with my own money, as well as played the first game. I did not enjoy The Last of Us Part 2.

The Last of Us Part 2 goes out of its way to preach, shame, and leave the player unsatisfied at every opportunity, and makes illogical decisions for how it presents its simplistic, common-sense themes.

There is a whole host of good in the game, but those diamonds are not worth the mountain of dirt needed to claw through to reach it. I will touch upon graphics, sound, gameplay, and then story.

    Graphics:

Definitely a step up in visual fidelity for this generation. Facial animation rarely gets this good in AAA games. You will constantly be in awe at the amount of detail, design, and animation present. The game runs at checkerboard 4K on the PS4 pro, but unfortunately it runs at a capped 30fps and occasionally dips down to the low 20s, so if you're a PC gamer used to 60fps and above you may want to skip this. There is also this awful film grain effect always present that cannot be disabled like the motion blur and camera shake can be.

    Sound:

Amazing sound design, the library of ambient and dynamic noise in this game is basically perfect. The music is perfect, although some segments of the gameplay are silent where you have no companion to speak to and no atmosphere to suck in. A good tune or two in these segments would have helped alleviate boredom. Another issue with the sound is that the volume mixing isn't as clean as it could be, your companion footsteps are just as loud as yours and enemies two rooms over can sound as if they're a few feet away. Rather than using your own sense of sound, you're a slave to the game's listen mode that highlights enemies through walls. I'm sure, however, that tweaking the deep sound settings could help this as you can tweak dynamic range, sound source angles, etc. The majority of players will not do this however.

    Gameplay:

Rather than advancing the formula from the first game, Naughty Dog decided to advance it "diagonally", in that some things are better and some things are changed just for the sake of it. Swapping weapons before getting new holsters is the exact same except you press X instead of Square. Changing shoulder aim is still done while aiming but you press Square instead of R1. You still craft a few new items but sometimes they're just not worth using unless you're in a situation where you're desperately using everything you have. You can go prone in grass now to hide, but it's functionally the same as if they had just added more cover everywhere. You can jump but it's useless outside of linear traversal.

Gunplay has not evolved in a meaningful way since the first game. You're still expected to go for headshots constantly, in spite of the artificial aim sway and having to aim with a thumbstick, as well as a bloomed reticule that never shrinks to pinpoint accuracy ala Red Dead Redemption. Do yourself a favor and disable camera sway in the accessibility options and increase your FOV. Enemies are still bullet sponges unless you get head-shots or opt for melee. You can easily be stun locked to death, or knocked down as an NPC tags you with a John Wick shot the second you poke your head out. Though combat never gets hard, it can easily be more annoying than fun at times. The game clearly wants to encourage stealth.

The stealth in this series has not taken any meaningful less from the greatest stealth games released in the past decade. Enemies have more realistic sight lines (sometimes, sometimes you can walk clear past them in plain view) meaning you need to move between cover more often and look for openings. However, you have a very slow movement speed meaning if an enemy decides to randomly turn around you have to pray you'll make it to the next bit of cover before he sees you. Even this is inconsistent though, as VERY often I'll be detected up to 5 seconds after moving behind cover. TLOU1 and 2 also commit the stealth game sin where one enemy detects you and everyone knows where you are, even if they don't get a chance to shoot or scream.

The tools they give you to navigate these stealth challenges are basic; some silenced weapons, throwables, and a takedown. Silenced weapons are only useful if you can reliably headshot every enemy in the level first try. Throwables are abundant, until they aren't. Melee takedowns are incredibly slow and can get you in more trouble than sneaking by, only effective if near cover or isolated. Levels cannot be ghosted intuitively first try, as it relies more on map knowledge and patrol routes than skill.

The "puzzles" in this game are awful and usually just amount to going the long way or reusing elements you'll learn in the first 3 hours without any creativity, or finding a paper that gives you a safe combo.

For a critique on the story, I recommend Hoeg Law as I've hit the character limit

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me just list all the reasons why I absolutely hate this game.

    1. Beloved character Joel died like a dog. His demise is so meaningless, created just as a plot device to push the game forward. Worse yet, you can't even get the satisfaction of revenge. Poor Ellie travelled all the way to Santa Barbara just to SAVE the murderer at the cost of her two fingers. She later tried to play the guitar but because of her lost fingers she couldn't. This is just so fking sad and ridiculous. I cried twice at the end of the game. Why ever would you do this to your fans Naughty Dog? Do you take pleasure in making us sad and miserable?

    2. Too many inconsistencies in the game. Tommy initially tries to persuade Ellie to not to go to Seattle but later got mad because she didn't want to. Abby is painstakingly shown in the game as a moral character who pets her dogs and tries to do right by people who have helped her, yet she didn't even blink to smash Joel's head in, even after Joel and Tommy just saved her life (I mean, at least show her hesitating, but Neil is too incompetent to think of this). Without Lev's intervention Abby would have slit Dina's throat, with great satisfaction that is. So much for a moral character (btw Ellie didn't know Mel was pregnant and only killed her in self-defense. This is different.). Ellie had no problem killing hundreds of people just to take revenge on Abby, yet when she finally had the chance, she gave up. (This bewilders the heck out of me.) What's worse, when she gave up, she should be thinking of the two previous occasions when Abby spared her life, which would make Ellie sparing Abby much more understandable, yet she was thinking about Joel when she stopped choking Abby. Wtf? Why didn't Ellie become angrier thinking of him? Why would she let Abby go? I can't believe a game that takes 7 years to make has so many loopholes like this.

    3. You are forced to play Abby for half of the game. Because of her actions many players DO NOT want to empathize with her. This is just another example of the terrible design of the game. If they place Joel's death at the end of the game, after they have shown Abby's backstory and struggles, then people may find it much easier to empathize with her. But ND decides Joel should die as quickly and as miserably as possible at the hands of a total stranger that is Abby, which makes it much more difficult for players to relate to her sufferings, and therefore makes people sick and disgusted the whole time they are playing as Abby. Want some proof? Just check out how many players tried to suicide Abby. I did it, many times, and it felt amazing.

    4. Shocking people for shock’s sake. Many of the scenes in the game feel unnatural, contrived, and illogical. Examples: Joel and Tommy suddenly go stupid and walk right into a group of strangers to whom they honestly confide their names; Abby’s group decide to spare Ellie’s life despite her repeated threatening of their life (the logical move was to kill her, but obviously the story has to continue); the brutal fight between Ellie and Abby at the theater can only end after Abby (played by you, who hate her guts) has killed Jessie, shot Tommy in the head, beaten Ellie to a pulp, and nearly cut Dina’s throat. There is no other way to continue the story (This is by far the single most disgusting plot design I have ever played in my entire life.). What is even more retarded, though, is Abby’s decision to spare Ellie’s life, AGAIN (…Well, it turns out in the end that this decision was actually not so bad, since Ellie also became retarded and came a long way to RESCUE her and Lev, instead of seeking revenge on her). These unnatural and illogical plot development can only be explained by the writer’s deliberate attempt at shocking the audience: Joel and Tommy suddenly become stupid because Joel has to die in a spectacular way, so **** logic, they are going right into an ambush. And of course, Ellie has to be there to witness Joel’s head becoming a golf ball (shocking as hell), so she’s there to see it and later released (stupid move on Abby’s part). I can go on but I don’t want to; you get the idea: shocking people for shock’s sake makes the story stupid and unconvincing.

    5. False advertising. This has been talked about by many people. The scenes featuring Joel in the trailer was swapped by Jessie. This is unacceptable.

    6. Too much LGBT propaganda. Ellie is lesbian; Abby is stronger than most men; Lev is trans, and Dina is bisexual. I feel like I'm watching a LGBT show than playing an actual game. I do not hate the LGBT groups but such overrepresentation of them is cheap and shadows other themes like revenge, love, and redemption.

I'm really sad at the moment, not only for the TLOU series, but also for the terrible fate that befell Joel and Ellie. I'm deeply hurt by this installment and I'll try my best to forget that it ever existed.

Killing Joel in the beginning of the game was an awful decision, specially the way they did it, turning him into a gullible character, contrasting the first game. The way they tried to make Abby into a somewhat good character with understandable intentions was pitiful, by introducing her as just a stranger to the story that just decides to kill Joel in cold blood ruins any intention of an invested player trying to understand her, making the 10/15 (!) hours that you will have to play with her painful. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game left a very bad feeling once I completed it. Let me first start off by saying this has nothing to do with the LGBTQ community since I did not mind/care about the same sex relationship or the transgender references/characters. What I did care about was the fact that the story just felt like nothing to me. From the beginning, once they announced a second game, I had a feeling Joel was going to die. It made sense, he had been around in the apocalypse for a long ass time, it was bound to happen eventually. Its important to be able to lose characters that you grow with, especially when it has the opportunity to pull out strong emotions from the audience. But this... This.. This was just too much. The fact that Joel gets smashed within the first few moments of the game was something, but the real issue I had with it was that he didnt get any honor to his death. No "I love you Ellie" or goodbyes, or anything. He is just gone, and after playing through him in the last game, growing with him over 7 years, and seeing him as the father figure he is. The developers felt it was okay to say bye bye. Which is just wrong.

As for Abby, I have not hated a character more than her. I think they could have done some good things with her, but the fact that I had to play as her for 10-15 hours of my gameplay, going through a story that I did not care about at all, and meeting characters I counted give a **** about and kind of wanted to kill right there, did not sit well with me. From the few times I would die as Abby, I laughed, because I cared that little for her character. I did not care for any of the main cast in her storyline, I did not care for the Scar children, and therefore as they all started to drop out one-by-one, I felt nothing. Nothing registered as they were killed because I did not feel anything towards the characters. The whole point of it was so that we can attempt to have some understanding and acceptance towards Abby, but that never came for me. (I'm not angry at her for killing Joel, just an f.y.i, like I said, him dying was not a bad part of the game)

Oh and don't get me started about Jessie's death. They just had to get him out of there to make it easier for Dina and Ellie to be together so he wouldn't be around with the baby. Removing a great character like that who is a strong character supporting the Asian community was just a rude idea. Laziest story writing ever.

All in all, this was a beautiful game. Design was 10/10, Gameplay itself was 10/10. It was the story and the characters which are the things that fell flat for me, and that is the biggest part of becoming attached to a game. You can make it look as pretty as you want, but you need more than graphics.

I rate it 0 because the fact that a game with an old gameplay (almost identical to the one from the first « The last of us » wich ca on PS3) get perfect reviews because (and it has been proved) video games websites didn’t want to lose their access from Sony makes me sick. It’s funny how the critics are unanimous but players don’t like it at all. And strangely, negative reviews begin to disappear and to be more difficult to post while positive ones still work just fine.

Now to the not so good... And i really want to do this, but the new characters in this game are utter **** They are either boring or bland or a good mix. Take Abbey for instance the only weakness she has is a fear of heights (and possibly fitting through narrow spaces), why is that? WE DON'T **** KNOW! A golden opportunity to actually flesh out a new character squandered... The only character, that's new mind you, that made me laugh was Lev for him not being able to take a joke. This makes the parts where you play as Abbey incredibly tedious and boring. 1/10. And since this is such a story and character driven game it drags it down a lot!
Ahhh... The story... It's a very, very good story... If you like logical inconsistencies and boring plot points. Lets take the biggest sin here... and spoiler warning if you haven't played the game! Joel, Ellie and Tommy would all die during their first encounter with the WLF. They have zero reason to keep them alive and they are even a liability for them, since they can ID them... And the only reason this is done for a visceral effect, where GoT managed to do this perfectly (at least the first couple of seasons) this feels like a cheap copy... And i'm not saying don't kill Joel, but this feels like killing him just to drive the story.
At the end of the day, it's a huge disappointment. Yet i'm torn between giving this game a 4 or a 5... The gameplay is really that good, but since there is no trophy for beating this on survivor and a short trophy list in general i'm going with a 4. Looks like an easy platinum though, so i guess i'll finish that before returning it to the store... #heartbroken

yes the game has a good gameplay but its story is not worth playing. giving too much attention to one or two specific things and creating our last main character that every one liked like a side character. this has a bad impact on players that played the last game. look its my opinion and im sure not everyone gonna like it but making a story too real is not fun for players

    treat your employees with respect!
honestly, I don't even care about the game that much, if you like it, you like it. but the backlash is justified if even half of the allegations are true.

I think this game is an insult to the ip 'The Last of Us'.
It's true that this game is more advanced or not bad for the whole story or battle and graphics and sound than before.
However, the title of this game is the last of us part2. This means that it has a deep connection with the previous game, and also has a close connection with the previous characters in the game. That is why

That is why many people get angry.
I also couldn't recognize this game as an independent game part2.
However, this game insulted the previous users.
Of course, other than that, I think that storytelling is not a factor for the 95 score of MetaScore.
If you give a normal score to this game, giving 7 points is the most reasonable score, but as the game insulted me, I would only have 0 insults to give the game.

Ruined the series. This game is total trash! This game was a flat out cash grab, made off the back of its predecessor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While the visuals and animations of this game are top tier, and the game play is solid none of this can make up for the plot. Killing off one of the protagonists of the first game isn't a bad thing, but doing it in such a disrespectful way and then forcing you to play as, and try to get you to sympathize with, the person who killed him is. Maybe this appeals to some people but to me this one of the most idiotic writing decisions i have ever seen. Nothing can make this game redeemable. Expand

Muita lacração e pouca ação, quem lacra não lucra, e nem vou comentar dos bugs e do gráfico que não tem nada haver com oq foi anunciado na E3 2018 #decepção

The game is story based, so the 90% of the focus should be on story. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You know, this game really was just a massive, massive disappointment all around. I never played the first game, but I heard really good things about it, and I loved what I saw of the story! Hell, when I heard this was coming out, I was debating actually getting a console to play the game, and actually buy the sequel. I enjoyed watching the first one so, so much, and my friends loved this game. But all of this is a real slap in the face. Between the ego of Neil Druckman (who has scummy, creepy male feminist written allllll over him), the misleading marketing, and the poorly thought out damage control after the leaks - this was already looking really, really bad. And when the story that was fully released ended up being worse than I ever could have imagined - just... thank God I didn’t buy this hunk of garbage! The leaks were actually a huge help for me.

Then, when you top everything else off with a forced gay relationship for obvious pandering reasons, some seemingly anti-Christian vibes (admittedly, I don’t know tooooo much about this one, but I’ve seen glimpses of some weird commentary on religion, at least from the leaks), and other divisive subjects... well, this is just the definition of a bad modern game. And it’s a real shame considering how nice the game’s graphics and gameplay looks!

A big gripe I have personally, is that this feels like it’s just another line in the long string of forced content in media that makes me wary whenever I see a homosexual relationship in media - and I myself am gay, and I currently have a boyfriend. And honestly, it’s flat out sad to keep seeing this - as someone who’s interested in game development and world-building, I’m not sure if I should include certain characters in my games dude to the negative reputation they’ve garnered in games and media, unless gay relationships can stop being constantly politicized and used for pandering.
And honestly, I can’t say that I blame the people who eat upset with them - because honestly, I get annoyed by them now too nowadays, even if they’re not that preachy. And with this game in particular, the relationship seemed kind of off from the start. I understand that they made Ellie gay in the DLC for the first game, but to my knowledge, that was a bit more natural, but given Druckman’s increased involvement with that game, it was more likely than not inserted for political reasons.

I haven’t watched their relationship as closely (because honestly, I don’t really care about their dynamic - I was invested in Joel and Ellie’s father-daughter dynamic much, much more), but my closest friend, who, to clarify is a lesbian in an active relationship, told me it was dumb as hell, and obviously inserted to preach at the audience and please the Twitter mobs. I know that a lot of people don’t focus on this issue, mainly because they don’t want to be called an “-ist” and a “-phobe,” but I don’t think it should be dismissed - and I don’t think there’s anything wrong making fun of it, or any of the other pandering!

So, in summary, this game is a huge letdown in just about every way - heck, I don’t even really want to watch a full play through at this point, especially since I’ve seen how this ends. This game is getting the blowback it rightfully deserves, and I’m going to do my best to pretend that this entire sequel never happened, and that we just have the Last of Us - no DLC, no Part II - just a lovely, well-designed, and truly wonderful game.

While it has some pretty good gameplay and graphics, it was the story and even how some of the characters were written that let this game down heavily.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
