    They had a great thing going on with the first game. However dropped the ball with this one. I feel like game developers are trying so hard to stand out, that they lose track of what's most important. A few choices in the game made by the developers were just wrong. It's like they just gave the big finger to the fans of the game. Something I can't call myself anymore.

    What a pandering piece of crap. This game takes a hot dump on the characters we were driven to care about in the first game, then forces you to play as the character that does the dumping. Screw you naughty dog. I will never trust you again, and I plan on saying it with my dollars.

    I waited 7 years for this game and I am terribly disappointed. horrible story, they killed the protagonists and put a female character (Ebby) without charisma, disgusting and we still have to play with her. remove the incompetent and stupid Neil Druckmann, he ruined the game. The Last of Us 2 sucks!

When I first completed the game I had mixed emotions there is no doubt that the visuals are stunning and just the feeling of playing as Ellie after waiting so long was great but upon reflection I realised The last of us 2 is an unorganised, nonsensical , bat **** crazy mess that forces its players into situations they don’t want to be in. The fact you have to play as the character who literally kills the guy you spent the entirety of the first game getting to know and love for 10+ hours is just horrific, I found myself asking aloud when I was going to be able to return to playing as Ellie not knowing that I would have to wait a painfully large amount of time. On top of this, things like when Ellie violently kills Nora who had very little involvement in the death of Joel yet chooses to spare Abby is just nonsense surely it would be the other way around. From the perspective of only a fan who’s favourite game of all time is the original last of us, the way naughty dog have spat in the face of their player base by certain members of their team choosing to accuse fans of being mysoginistic or homophobic etc . for simply not agreeing with the story is once again wrong. It may sound like I utterly hated this game which is not true there were definitely parts of the game which reminded me of why I loved the first one so much all be it they were the parts that didn't involve Abby but overall the game just disappointed me I felt like a kid at Christmas the night before release as I managed to carefully avoid any spoilers which we all know there were plenty of prior to release but when I awoke expecting an PS4 underneath the tree there was in fact a Soulja boy console sitting there… Expand

Imagine waiting 7 years for the continuation of one of the best written games of the last generation, just to obtain a sequel that not just is a mess in it's writing, but completely misses the point of the last game; it's not just supposed good and evil but an spectrum between, but TLOU2 just tries to make every character being one or another at certain points just because the writer and/or director says so.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Why a zero? That's the story is the centerpiece of games like this. It is so poorly written it is not even worth anyone's time. The actions leading up to Joel's death are highly illogical. It is very obvious that it was just a shock value ploy to have a story. Granted him dying and being a driving force in a quest for vengeance isn't an awful idea. The way it was handled was just plain lazy. The rest of the story isn't completely awful but the ending is absolutely the worst. She goes through all of that just to let the murderer live. There's no way anyone would do that. It is just a pathetic attempt to copy the gut punch end to the first game. Nice try guys but piss poor effort. I won't be buying another game from this studio and I suggest anyone that is still curious to just watch someone stream it.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So first of all what the actual f?#! This game is pathetic beyond comprehension and not only the game itself but the company surrounding and handling the situation as well.

    It all started with the copyright strikes on youtube channels that LITERALLY DID NOT SHOW OR TALK ABOUT LEAKS. That was the first red flag that I caught and I was like "weird why would sony and naughty dog do that for what reason?". After that the full game is released and what do I get to see? Joel's cutscene was actually altered to look like Joel played bigger part in the game than he actually did. I'd like to think that this was not delibarete, however it sure was a second red flag for this game.

    Next I go to review sites and ironically this site was in my eyesight too where I see a lot of 100's or 10/10 respectively of the site, critic reviews which was another red flag for me. You cannot make me believe that this game or for that manner any game deserves perfect score. I'm sure that somewhere, something could have been improved at least a little bit which would have ultimately change the review to 9.0 or 9.5 or 99/98/97 you get the idea. There is no doubt that this game has a lot of review bombing on the user reviews however let's also acknowledge that there has been review bombing on both sides. Moreover, it happens so that the game was gifted to me so I was like what the hell why not I'll give it a go even though I knew about the leaks at the time (but I did not know how it ended).

    Two hours into the game Joel was hilariously killed, in a situation where he finds people he does not know. He just so decides that after all these years of experience in apocaliptic survival, and everything that caused him traumatic pain that he would give out his name to some strangers. After that well a character called "Abby" shoots Joel with a shotgun to the legs and proceeds to hit him with a golf stick. Meanwhile, Ellie finds what happens and tries to save Joel but is held to the ground and made to watch how Abby kills Joel in the most pathetic dishonorable way of all with a golf stick. After this the game is straight up trying to prove to you that "Revenbe - Bad, don't kill, revenge not good, don't do revenge" by basically pulling up the card pregnancy and animals while you play as Ellie 3 times (I think it might be more) just to make you feel bad that you killed this woman because "ooops she was pregnant see revenge is bad now!" or the same with animals.

    This was the most pathetic story I've ever seen in my entire life, I kid you not a child can tell you a better story with the toys it has. Moreover, you get to the end after all the killing and the revenge where you (as the player Ellie) are emotionally and time invested in this game for ~20 hours. You try to kill Abby (the person that killed Joel) when a flashback of Joel changes the mind of Ellie in a cutscene leaving her in a state where she forgot about the fight. In these precious seconds Abby bites off 2 fingers off of Ellie's hand leaving her impossible to play a gutiar ever again. After that Ellie is leaving Abby to go and does LITTERALLY NOTHING. WHAT was the poing of a revenge plot if Ellie was not even given the option to kill ABBY ????

    For a game that was 7 years in development, coming out as the same gameplay from 7 years ago, and being a story driven game should be judged mostly for the story hence why I give it a 0 because from any standpoint, it does not make any sense. Greaphycally there is a jump but come on how can you compare 7 years of development and say this game is better when TLOU1 is much more better in my eyes after this bullsh?!    … Expand

    Before I say things I want to make clear that I love the first game... and i was looking forward to this one.
    My game was in my mailbox the 20th of this month and I threw it in my ps4 as soon as I walked in.
    first 2 hours is just looking at the graphics and how smooth everything is.
    loved the way how you just stepped back in a universe that I missed the last 6 years.
    I played the first game about 10-15 times in every mode available just to be with Joel and Ellie.
    So when the Joel thing happened I was shocked and in tears.
    I had to lay down my controller and pour myself a drink, 6 years of playing joel every few months just died on me. But with the road to vengeance ahead I was still enthiousiastic. and then **** just went down the drain.
    Playing as Abbie just made the game suck.
    I DONT WANT ABBIE **** ABBIE. I disliked this souped up terminator muscle manwoman.
    So i thought let met just finish the abby part quick so i can get back to ellie.
    But **** that is 50% of the game. YOU PLAY HALF THE GAME AS THE GIRL WHO KILLED JOEL.
    And as a cherry on a **** filled pie you have to play against Ellie and almost kill her.
    after that **** part you get to play as Ellie and finnaly try to kill this elon muscle.
    after killing about 250+ men and woman you suddenly remember that killin s bad mkay and you get home without being able to fingerbang yourself and you try to play retarded guitar.
    Whatuh****, the man who wrote this must be drunk.

    I couldn’t even get through the first half of the game without being overtaken by my pure disappointment in this horrible story. It’s horribly written and makes no sense 10 hours of the game don’t even relate to the initial story. I decided to cut the game in half and watch the rest that I didn’t play via a stream. Gotta day I’m glad I didn’t play anymore of it.

This game is so heavily based around storytelling and, quite frankly, the story for this game is trash. I hated the ending and it makes no sense to me. I keep seeing garbage arguements about how "People only hate on this game because they're babies and they dont like that Ellie is into girls!" That's a load of crap man, nobody cares about that. People are angry because you took characters and a story that people loved and ran it straight into the ground. Naughty dog is a horrible company and this game isnt worth your time or your money.… Expand

In my entire life no game has left me as disappointed as that game, The last of us 1 is one of the best games I played in my life but this part 2 managed to destroy the entire legacy of the first game and I hope that they do not do part 3, I wish I could go back in time and have just the memory of the first game, no game, book or series left me so sad and disappointed, if I had known that the game would be so boring, frustrating, and with so much sexist and political apology I would never have spent my money with him all negative criticism is totally deserved, this is not a comment from a hater I have always preferred Sony consoles and The Last of Us 1 is one of the best games I have ever played and will continue to be more The last of us part 2 deserves a well-deserved grade 0.… Expand

The main problem with this game is it is a story based game. The story is trashed for no real reason other than what I assume is politics. In a game where you're forced to act as despicably as possible only to get lectured and shamed for it later on, the most obvious gun we come across is Chekhov's Gun. You can't build something up for 20+ hours of gameplay and then not bother to pay it off--that's Chekhov's Gun Apparently in these past 7 years full of crunch, fired employees, Take Down notices, Simpering "critics" and general angst, Neil Druckman has forgotten how to tell a story.

    I'll keep this review spoiler free. I did my best to avoid as many leaks as possible. Even so, there were gifs and images of unsettling images that spoiled huge plot points in the game. Some even making fun of that gruesome plot point. It was another taste of how willing people on the internet are to be as distasteful as possible.     But the story is so bad that it feels like an insult, relying on cheap shock value at several points. Introducing a new playable character and having her brutally murder Joel BEFORE giving players a chance to sympathize with her does not work, and then being forced to play as her for a large chunk of the game where you even have to beat the living crap out of Ellie is just a straight-up middlefinger to anyone who loved the first game.
    Of all the new characters introduced, Lev is probably the only one I liked, the rest of them were just there so Ellie and Abby wouldn’t be talking to themselves. At at least three points, companions on both sides even get suddenly killed off (cheap shock value) without any real feeling of loss.
    And the ending is just a joke, after murdering her way through Seattle and Santa Barbara, Ellie suddenly decides that revenge/killing is bad and lets Abby get away.
    Like I said, gameplay and graphics were good, but nothing groundbreaking. So the one point I have to give is for the ability to play with dogs trough out the game, because dogs are always good bois, except you Naughty Dog, shame on you.    … Expand

I get the trying to humanize her and all that, but 12 bloody hours is way too long. I didn’t buy the game because I hate Ellie so why would I want to play against her. The story was fine when it had to do with Ellie but other than that it was bad. Fine the background scenes were pretty, but the gameplay is the same as the first game. Oh wait they added some taller grass. Why isn’t there multiplayer? Don’t give me this we worked so hard crap, it’s been 7 years. Mate I could have created a game in that time, hell I fixed the story line with a few tweaks to abbys character in 10 min. Anyways not a great game, no real changes from the first in terms of gameplay, and the story was terrible. This game is by no means as bad as some people make it out to be. But neither is it a masterpiece.

    The story, which seems to be the most controversial part, is a massively over-hyped "was it worth it" revenge story. Very unoriginal. And while the quality is not bottom-of-the-barrel as some are inclined to believe, it is unimaginative, and very much average. (5/10)

    Graphics-wise, the game looks how one expects a Triple A game to look. Polished, and refined. But that's expected. It does not stand out beyond that. (5/10)

    Additional factors:
    The social justice angle is something I find meaningless to the story. So what if the main character is straight, gay, bi or otherwise "non-binary?" Did it add anything to the story? No. Does it detract from the story? Also no. The story stands on its own merits, though as I said above, it needs work.

    The fact that this game had a "pre-order incentive" that affects gameplay is a major sticking point for me personally. Just for that, -1 from the score.

    Finally, Naughty Dog, get over yourself. You and your works are not some gift from on high. You have fallen victim to creator bias. You are unable to see the GLARING flaws in your product, which is understandable, and you are lashing out at anyone who dares suggest that it is less than a masterpiece. A "masterpiece" is defined as "a work of outstanding quality/workmanship." Your studios workmanship is hardly outstanding. It was average for a Triple A studio. And this game (based SOLELY on its own merits) is also average. It is not a masterpiece.
    "Outstanding," by the way, is defined as "exceptionally good." Do enlighten us all as to what is "exceptional" about this game in regards to the quality or workmanship, let alone "exceptionally good." And if your response has something to do with the main character being a strong female with non-traditional orientation, let me stop you right there. That has NOTHING to do with the QUALITY or WORKMANSHIP of your game.

    Final score: (4/10) due to pre-order scumminess. 5/10 otherwise.

    My rubric:
    0/10: Unfinished. I never give credit for unfinished work.
    1/10: Alpha. Severely Broken. There was an attempt, but that's all that can be said.
    2/10: Beta. Major improvements needed, but at least the game is beyond the conceptual stage.
    3/10: Broken. Some work is required to optimize and fix the technical issues.
    4/10: Unimpressive. Falls below expectations, but otherwise a functional game.
    5/10: Average. On par with other games of its bracket. No more. No less.
    6/10: Novel. There are a few aspects that are different from others of its kind.

    8/10: Stand-out. Truly innovative mechanics/story, very high quality.

    Played all of Naughty Dog's games.
    Amazing graphics, music, above average gameplay. However, this is a story driven game.
    This game is like an average 4-5/10. If there was no prequel, I'd probably give it a 6 or even 7.
    But I honestly want to give it a 0 for the way ND has handled things. Their PR was ridiculous, their trailers misleading to the point is false advertisement, and they even tried to silence people with DMCAs. What an absolute disaster.

    Here is the list on the game and naughty dogs behaviours:

    1. Takes away everything that made the first game great, changes character's personalities to serve the plot;
    2. Makes a basic revenge plot sound like a pretentious masterpiece;
    3. New characters don't have depth, I don't care about anyone. When Jesse died, I felt nothing because I really didn't know the guy;
    4. Makes Ellie feel like the villain, you have to kill a dog and a pregnant lady;
    5. Tries to make you have compassion for Abby. While Ellie is killing everyone, Abby is playing with a dog. The game is trying to manipulate the player by making Abby more relatable and for that, has to make Ellie unlikable. Feels forced;
    6. The stupid pregnant woman just decided to risk her life for no damn reason, instead of being secured in the stadium, just so Ellie could kill her. Ellie bad. Horrible writing;
    7. You don't kill Abby;
    8. DMCA on everyone. ND and sony were really awful at handling this. Unacceptable;
    9. Awkward teenage drama between Ellie and Dina, seriously, that was really cringe;
    10. **** story trailer was misleading as hell. False advertisement;
    11. Dr. Uckmann and the "new dogs" feels like a showcase of the new team, and I hate it;
    12. You kill a person and later in the game you know about their history to make you feel guilty. Every single time. So cheap...
    13. Bigot Sandwich;
    14. Horrible pacing, changing characters all the time, lots of flashbacks;
    15. Flashbacks inside of flashbacks;
    16. Also, did you know revenge is bad? You didn't, did you? Yap, revenge and violence are bad. Now be astonished by my clearly superior intellect, you peasants. You pedestrian creatures;
    17. Joel doesn't tell Ellie the whole story in order to serve the plot, once again;
    18. Story doesn't justify game's length, it has 2 times the longevity of the first, but half the story content, just seems to drag on;
    19. Abby and her father moments are supposed to feel the same as Ellie and Joel connection, couldn't care less;
    20. The **** zebra is supposed to replace the **** giraffe moment, and give some humanity to Abby's father, then in the next scene he wants to kill a 14 year old girl;
    21. For me, they created the stadium section of the game, with all of its complexity, just to justify Abby's gains. First create the character, then get out of their way to create a possible environment for it;
    22. So much repetition, Abby lets Ellie go several times, Ellie searches for Abby several times. This is the game;
    24. Hypocrisy of sexual content in games by Sony;
    23. *Guess*

    Plot holes for me:
    1. Group travels 1k miles for revenge. Also they have second thoughts when they arrive. Only Abby continues;
    2. Ridiculously coincidental Joel-Abby encounter at the begining of the game. This is luck on a complete new level;
    3. Change Joel character into a naive person in order to set Abby's revenge;
    4. Abby let's Ellie and Tommy live, Ellie is on the ground screaming she will revenge Joel;
    5. Ellie travels to Seattle(1k miles!) to fight an entire group of people, practically alone;
    6. Abby lets Ellie leave again in the theater;
    7. **** Jesse dies. He was just a sperm donor anyways;
    8. Dina gets a pregnancy belly so fast? Or did I miss a time skip?;
    9. Kills hundreds of people in order to kill Abby. Doesn't do it because revenge bad;
    10. Flashbacks are mostly pointless;
    11. Joel doesn't tell Ellie the whole story in the firefly basement in order to serve the plot, once again;
    12. Pregnant lady goes to combat and the dialog to to justify this is just ridiculous. There is just one reason for her to be there and we all know it, for Ellie to kill her;

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It really seems that the game in the end was not quite what I expected. The graphics are the best of the generation, the gameplay and immersion all score 10. But the story itself really, at least for me, is really disapointted.

    First Abby kills the most beloved character in the franchise, then I am forced to play more than half the game with her, it made no sense to me, even showing the other side of the story, I only wanted Abby dead...

    After that having to fight against Ellie? Nonsense, since my anger was directed at killing Abby for what she did.

    For me the ideal would be:

    1. Joey and Tommy are cornered by Abby and her group, Ellie arrives at the moment and sees Joey all bloodied being thrown out the window or falls from a very high height and he is presumed dead.

    2. Ellie begins her revenge journey with help from Tommy, Jesse and Dina for gameplay.

    3. You wouldn't play with Abby

    4. At the end of the game Ellie manages to reach Abby by invading the Stadium where the Wlf (wolf) are, but in the end they manage to capture Ellie, Dina, and Jessy.

    Tommy manages to escape.

    5. Tommy discovers that Joey survived the fall and injuries, and the gameplay at the end of the game is with Joey against the entire wlf army

    **** it! Against everything and everyone to save Ellie!
    In the end Ellie hugs Joey asking him for forgiveness and calls him dad ...

    There you go

The story doesn't work, I see what devs try to do, but the pacing, the choices that characters do conflict with what they where on the last game. The pacing showing Abby's backstory after they killed a beloved character and then making the player, play as her. It is a stupid choice in my opinion. The ending is trash because you make Ellie sacrifice his family, even his 2 fingers just to not finish the job. I recommend people to play another thing, or if you still wanna play it, wait for it to be on sale because this game is not worth 60 dollars.… Expand

Joel’s death I guess nothing to Ellie because some how after pretty much killing all of her friends and now going to kill abby, Ellie some how feels bad for abby ( in which I was in raged about ) without the death of abby this game felt no meaning to me. I love when naughty dog try’s to make us feel bad when her friends die but we don’t. Every time one of her friends die I was cheering and rooting her to be next. I wish Jesse didn’t really die in the way he did. I think it was messed up in a way. He didn’t even get to know Dina was pregnant. Overall this game isn’t worth your time. When I finished the game I sat threw the credits wondering what just happened now the last 12 hours of the game. It’s sad to see this game end up this way .     Disappointing story and no multiplayer to further game time. Waste of my money, it wasn't worth it at all.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Starting off with what I liked most about that game was the game play it reminded me a lot of the Last of Us I. The graphics were gorgeous and it set the scene for most of the game, I also liked the mechanics but that's about all I truly liked about the game. Now the story... it was okay I was not a big fan of the story. And at times the story just seemed to drag on and I just wanted to the game to FINALLY get to the point, the goal of Ellie. Which did not continue until close to the end of Abby's play through. Which mind you was long and for the most part the worst part of the game not counting Joel's death of course (I will explain my opinion on that later). Abby's play through was just boring to me and I just wanted to get that part out of the way. The one thing that I despised about this part of the game was having to hurt Ellie! For the life of me I wanted no part of that but it had to be done... Now for Joel's death it seemed unnatural and so out of character of him, Joel just, he would never do what he did that resulted in that ambush. I strongly felt that Joel did not deserve to die like that, I'M not saying he did not deserve to die eventually because the guy literally decided to let humanity rot to save Ellie. BUT he did not deserve to have his head bashed in with a gulf club, know I'm not saying he should have died in this action packed scene filled with guns a-blazing or something like that. I personally thought that if you were gonna kill of this beloved character that was loved by all, one of the people of my all time favorite duo. At least have him die protecting the people he cared about like, Ellie or Tommy. I personally expected him to die protecting Ellie from and enemy or an infected not from a gulf club. But other than that I will say the game is okay... but I'm not playing through that again (way to long). But I feel there were better story's that they could have come up with for the TLOU2. Oh and... give the Neil Druckmann a break he's human too. You may not like the game but you shouldn't go harassing the guy.… Expand

    When you force political correctness in a game like TLOU2, it is one of the worst things you can do as a game publisher when to break the entire game regarding feeling/immersion for the game. For some reason Naughty Dog still was able to do this.     As a story based game, the story is terrible. Graphics are the only decent element, game play itself is tedious and clunky.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
