    Pros
The story is fantastic - despite the lack of conversation, I found myself really invested in the welfare of the protagonists and feeling genuinely concerned whenever Trico got hurt.
The puzzles vary from quite easy to devilishly difficult. The game looks very nice (usually in strong sunlight) but the graphics can be beaten. The sound and soundtrack set the scene very well. Cons

    Cons
There were quite a few occasions where I couldn't get Trico to do what I wanted... to the point that I assumed I'd missed something and had to refer to a walkthrough, only to have it confirmed that what I wanted to do was correct.
There were a few camera control issues (while trying to climb Trico in enclosed areas) but no worse than other games in its ilk.

Overall, I thought it was a really lovely game, had an involving story, looked pretty and had a lovely soundtrack which was complemented by an infrequent Japanese narrative.
Controlling Trico was sometimes very frustrating so I had to drop 2 marks for taking the polish off an otherwise great game.
You can complete the game in a couple of sittings so I recommend that you buy a physical copy so that you can trade it in afterwards as there's not much to offer in terms of replay (unless you're a trophy hound).

The Last Guardian has been on many peoples minds over the past several years of development. As someone who has been interested in the project after completing both ICO and Shadow of there Colossus, I can safely say that my expectations were met. Was it worth the near decade-long wait, maybe not so much, but nonetheless, a masterpiece in its own right.

You assume the role of a boy awoken in the midst of some vat dungeon in a pit with the great beast Trico. Throughout your journey, the two of you grow closer to each other and learn how to utilize each others strengths and weaknesses to proceed through the giant constructs. The story is all but there, focusing more on the emotional connection between player, character, and beast.

The background graphics and sceneries in this game are top-notch. Gazing into the distance nice you reach the outside world can behold some breathtaking views, even if its of the walls of the Fortress. The sprite animation leaves some to be desired, and the over animated movements can be cumbersome at times, but it does not take away from the overall playability.

A fantastic game and well worth the 11 or 12 hours to takes to complete. By now, the price has dropped to around $40 so it may be worth it to pick it up now as opposed to when it was released. Cheers for TRICO.

There is no clear game process, while playing it around 4-6 hours it seems some of the "trainigs" of the chimera works only a specific spots, and if you miss them, it does not work anymore to force/train him to do something ... without any information you walk silly around and trying "stupid" things. So the reason I adore this game is because of graphics, the way the game makes you bond with the creature, and how Trico protects you without haste.
It's one of the many masterpieces games fail to make.

The ending is remarkable and almost made me tear up.

Even when Trico gives your character to the humans, they still attack him, and it gave me a fright, I thought Trico was about to die!
It is an AMAZING, dazzling game.

I wrote a 3000 word review on here before accidentally closing my browser so I'll just keep it really short this time:

I thought the game was amazing. Despite the obvious technical flaws, it's still a beautifully detailed game with an immersive world surrounded by an sense of mystique. The culmination of Fumito Ueda's labours of storytelling love. The chemistry between the protagonist and Trico is very enjoyable to watch it evolve as time goes on and the story, although subtle, unfolds into a satisfying conclusion at the end of it all.

It has technical flaws, but if you're a fan of Team Ico's other games I'm sure you'll be able to tolerate them. Making way for the absolute diamond in the rough that is The Last Guardian. Solid 8.5/10, bumping it up to a 9 to counter all the mindless and poorly-constructed 1-point reviews this game has been receiving.

When you are in about the middle of the game, you will see that the game is only based in "finding a way to go forward". There is no fight, no challenge. You only run from some stuff, pull some levers, tell Trico to jump and that's it.
I liked the relationship between them and the story is cool, I won't say otherwise but I believe the game should at least add some hard points to get through like "bosses" or whatever.
I had fun playing it, I got bored sometimes, but I enjoyed playing it.

Eu nunca joguei Shadow of the Colossu ou qualquer outro jogo destes criadores, eu apenas vi meu irmão jogar.

Many reviews cite Trico's unwillingness to follow commands as a bug, a glitch or a design flaw but personally it ties the experience together. In fact I found just petting trico or finding some food for him often encouraged him to find the way by himself. often when I had no idea which way I needed to go Trico would nod in a direction or just wander over and start jumping up on pillars. I never felt frustrated during my experience and played through almost all of the game in one day. I just couldn't stop.
The camera is flawed at times but that's down to navigating small corridors with a giant beast. It never became a hindrance though, just an occasional annoyance. I also noticed the frame rate dropped in a couple of areas but again it didn't interrupt my enjoyment.
Some of the environments are a little too similar, a lot of ruins but there's enough variation to keep it interesting and I found the art work to be so beautiful I couldn't complain. Of course trico looks fantastic but the boy was also very well designed. I haven't been so drawn in by a game in quite some time and if you feel like trying a game which is less action focused and more about experiencing a story and feeling part of a journey between two soon to be best friends then I say go for it. You should definitely get this game, I couldn't recommend it enough.

The Last Guardian is a video game that makes me realize how fake most video games are. In most video games, health and ammunition are strewn everywhere for no believable reason (not to mention that the idea of consuming “health” is absurd). In most video games, my screen tells me how much stamina my character has, or shows me a digital map that has no reason for existing. In most videoThe Last Guardian is a video game that makes me realize how fake most video games are. In most video games, health and ammunition are strewn everywhere for no believable reason (not to mention that the idea of consuming “health” is absurd). In most video games, my screen tells me how much stamina my character has, or shows me a digital map that has no reason for existing. In most video games, puzzles make absolutely no sense, as though my enemy would hire a construction crew for a week to build a puzzle to slow my progress. In most video games, characters move through the world and react to me with a predictable set of animations. In most video games, characters and the world twist and bend to make my progression effortless, and as we all know this is not how life works.

And you know what? It’s forgivable that video games do these things, because unlike movies or other storytelling media when you hand the controls to the audience you have some serious problems on your hands. How much realistic control do you give them? Too little and they’re running on rails, and too much and they’re falling to their deaths every minute. How do you create living characters that feel real, but aren’t boring because they get tired, don’t listen to you, or need to go to the bathroom like any living character actually would? How do you prevent the player from getting stuck without breaking the fourth wall and ruining the realism? The answers to these questions are very hard, perhaps 10-years-of-development hard, and The Last Guardian attempts to answer them and does so very well.

The screen has no UI, save for rare reminders of what button you use to pick things up or pull on levers. The game’s narrator is an old version of the protagonist, allowing the game to guide the character in a realistic way (the narrator can tell you what to do in the past tense, because he’s already done it). It’s genius and flawless.

And Trico. Trico is a triumph. I’m not sure how they did it but I never saw him repeat the same animation twice. He moves like a living being, reasons like a living being and reacts like a living being. Early in the game he doesn’t trust you and it’s hard to get him to follow your commands. It’s frustrating, but that frustration makes it so compelling when you finally earn his trust and notice in subtle ways that he has learned to like you. [It’s kinda like how Dark Souls pummels you into the ground, and that’s OK because if you could slay a demon from hell on your first try, that wouldn’t be realistic. And it feels that much better when you do.] It feels like a real relationship and it’s five million years ahead of any relationship I’ve ever experienced in a game. Mass Effect is cool because it kind-almost-slightly simulates relationships, if only for the fact that I’m picking from 4 pre-written answers and can see the dialogue tree in the background.

Now here’s the catch. Do we want games to perfectly simulate life? No, that would be boring and frustrating. So it’s a question of balance and the talent of the developer. Can they make the elements of the world feel real but also fun? The Last Guardian toes the line between boredom and fun, realistic frustration and fake ease. Early in the game it steps more to the real/boring/frustrating side of the line, and I suspect it loses many players here. Which is a damn shame, because like any Souls fan will tell you, the early frustration that comes from a realistic world (LG) or enemy (Dark Souls) is a necessary element of the final payoff. The Last Guardian’s frustrations lessen significantly as time goes on, just as this journey would in real life. You just have to trust it, or you’re going to ruin it for yourself and lose the ability to appreciate what’s happening.

I could go on forever (they should do game design classes on this game). But I’ll just leave by saying that The Last Guardian is the most real experience I’ve ever had in games, and I don’t see anything reaching those heights for another decade.

Oh boy, this is a very hard game to review.

On one hand, the amount of charm, love and effort that went into this game does not go unnoticed. The enviroments are incredible, huge in scale and unique in arquitecture, feeling both natural and well thought: the sound design increases the impact of the scenery, adding nature sounds like wind across the stone arcs, or the tweets of birds high flying across the imposible buildings sorrounding the player, that's speaking for the enviroments and universe.

I will talk about the creature, Trico, the undeniable star of the game. Trico is beautiful, huge, intimidating, scary, tender, obedient, rebel, in other words: a true animal. In no other game i've felt like wandering arround side to side a wild creaature, a magnificent one, and that comes with a price: some frustration, you see, the beast does not always behave like you expect, and that surely hurts the game flow, but in other hand, it adds to the immersion. Its a double edged sword, the authenticity of the beast: feels real, and also feels thedious. Eventually, you gain the ability to signal the beast and pin point whichever place or direction you want the crature to go, and it's not to shabby, most of the times Trico did as commanded, but on those rare instances when he didn't, some frustration ensued.

Now, the true issue with this game are the controls, and that's a very hard thing to explain, i can't make it justice with written words, but in a nutshell they feel "tanky and ragdoll-like". The nameless kid the player controls is so fragile, weak, fragile and... useless, that most of the actions he performs come with obnoxious side effects: climbing into the creature's back is weird, also the movement, sometimes the kid goes (while climbing) unto an undesired directon, other times he falls flat on his face while running, or does not let go of Trico when you press the "let go" button. Also, the Camera can sometimes mess your jump timming, your location and... i would say your gameplay, the camera is Ok on the best scenario, terrible at the worst.

Technically, the game is also on the lower end of the spectrum: i noticed lots of frame drops on my vanilla Ps4, but nowhere near terrible or unbearable, specially for the nature of the game, if this was an action focused game, that would be unforgivable, but on this puzzle-platforming oriented game, is just an annoyance (which, granted, given the nature of the game it SHOULD run smoothly)

So... why do i give it a high rate?. Because NO OTHER GAME is like this game (you can argue ICO is similar, but i disagree). The bond with Trico is natural, progresive, the beast itself earns its place on your heart, and the amount of stuff that happens in the game makes you feel a closer connection with the crature. it's amazing the amount of complex feelings this game can give with having very very few lines of dialogue: this game is the clear example of "showing instead of telling" when it comes to both of its main characters. Also, it helps that for once the game's ending is not somber nor tragic. We need more endings like this game has.

In the end, despite its obvious flaws, i absolutely loved this game, and as a long time fan of Fumito Ueda (game's director, also director of Shadow of Colossus and ICO), i am greatly satisfied with the end result, and i consider this game the best of his works yet, and i am happy that this game came to exist: it's an unique game, and one that will earn lots of cult following for the years to come.

If you liked Shadow of Colossus and specially ICO, this game is a MUST.

But after time you are starting to getting emotional attachment and I think this is the most important thing that developers wanted to achieve. It feels more like you and your big friend are just going through adventure. It feels cozy and warm. Trico starting to feel as real animal. You care about each other .
And closer to the end game is becoming more interesting in terms of action and story. In the end I am satisfied. I think the most important thing here is an emotional part. If you are gamer that loves videogames as an art that game is for you. If game had better technical quality I would give it 10 out of 10 and it will be legendary.

This is a good game, otherwise hampered with many many problems. The controls and camera are really garbage to be honest. The best aspect is the story and level design.

In general, The Last Guardian is a masterpiece not afraid of the word. These games are really out every 9 years (as it was developed). Tricot turned so alive that you have during the game does not leave a feeling of anxiety for him. And only after this ending, I really understood what it means to the term "open-ended". When the days of sit and ponder: "What if ...".

In Shadow of the Colossus and Ico the stories are blatant "wtf just happened here?" head scratchers. I think this developer has always been about experiencing their surroundings and characters. Does this game control poorly? No it really doesn't. Spamming the controls like a moron will cause Trico to essentially lock up. You have to be patient. Everyone getting this game should have known what they were getting into. It's basically all the player's fault if they expected Trico to follow their commands immediately. Everything in the promotional material makes it clear that this creature was programmed to not do that.

People are lighting into it due to the 10 year wait, and i'm like "Is that really a valid argument?"
I'd say no. No it is not. Actually, **** those who use that as an argument. Its not like this is a kick starter game that took 10 years to make. Or 4 million dollars of your own money. You had 0 monetary investment in this so why even care how long it took? Performance wise, nobody can objectively say it’s a bad game. There are nitpicks and buggy things like any game, but nothing about it has convinced me there’s anything legitimately poorly made or broken. This is probably why they harp on about the delays. It’s the only thing they can find.

The gameplay consist of solving environmental puzzles by using the boy and the beast.
They can be challenging and sometimes frustratingly vague or difficult to perform due to the delayed controls.
My main issue with this game is that it is a work of art, but as with work of arts not everyone appreciates or cares for it. And this game is that work of art for me. Fantastic beautiful environments and there are some precious moments as the bond unfolds between the boy and beast but, the controls that are slightly delayed, the frustrating moments you are trying to get the beast to perform an action and it's stubbornly hard to get it to move (sure maybe that is deliberately lifelike but it's still not a gameplay aspect I enjoy), the lack of replayability unless you really care for trophies and very similar actions and environments throughout the gameplay did not make this game all that enjoyable to me.
I'd probably rate it a 4 but the fantastic animations, especially Trico (probably one of the best animated characters/figures in a game to date) really deserves a point on it's own.
I have a Whippet and sometimes I swear it was like I was watching a film of my dog, that's how well animated and lifelike Trico is.
If you come into this game and expect anything like Shadow of the Colossus, you are going to be dissapointed.
If you get it through PS+ or at a "indie price" it'll be well worth a try but for me, this game at full price wasn't worth it.
It's a game let down by the controls and in my case because it's niche doesn't appeal to me personally.

I was placed in the shoes of a boy in search of a way home. The path would be impossible but for the companionship of the mythological beast Trico. Together, we traversed a vast city and encountered deadly enemies.
We didnt just travel and fight side by side. We developed a bond over time and we helped each other. Keep in mind though that while he will do his part in finding the way home, he can never be tamed completely. He can be moody and stubborn sometimes. It made me reflect on my life raising my daughter. She is never in a hurry to listen to your commands but, given enough coaxing, she will do what is needed.
The suspense of the experience was palpable. It can be slowed down by exploration puzzles but it was always rewarding when the path became clear. I highly recommend playing with headphones. The sounds of our friend Trico, the echo of caverns, the sparse yet lovely music, the smashing of rock and brick all ring in your ears with reality and urgency.
What a gorgeous, touching adventure. It is a contender for my favorite games of all time. Frustrating at times, it was all worth the sweat and worry. I will forever remember this one. And be sure to stick around for the post credits scene. I hope we get more emotionally, character driven stories full of suspense and greatness in the exciting future of "gaming".

Fighting through the difficult controls and camera angles is well worth the engaging, bittersweet and joyful story The Last Guardian offers. With the exception of ICO and Shadow Of The Colossus I can't think of a game quite like The Last Guardian, a welcome breath of fresh air that gets you emotionally invested without being overly sentimental. The bond feels natural and builds as the game progresses, the puzzles are fun and have a good range of challenge in the difficulty level and the environment and music add up to create a strange and mystical world that feels original and isolated.
The game will make you swear, laugh and maybe even cry. You'll be rooting for Trico and the boy and praying it all ends well. It has left a lasting impression that can't quite be shaken and though it's unlikely I'd love to see more from these characters and this setting in the future. The thing that brings this whole idea to life and makes it work is developers core design tool, and that is Trico's AI. - Beautiful mood, music and audio design

And that's all the good I have to say about the game. The controls, camera, AIs, and collision management are so abysmally bad and frustrating that about halfway through the game, I gave up and pulled a walkthrough off the internet to get through this as quickly as possible. Climbing on top of this creature and getting off its back (something you need to do constantly and casually throughout the game) is like pulling teeth--only far less successfully. I've stopped counting the number of times I've plummeted to my death because the controls didn't respond the way they should have. Giving direction to the creature (Trico) is incredibly try-and-error. You can do the right thing, but you'll need about 10 repetitions of the command before it finally does something. Waiting for the inevitable downtime that this game forces upon you led me to play another game on my iPad while this was happening--I'm not kidding, it was that bad.

But I'll admit that the ending is touching and relatively well done. I hadn't expected the twist and it was a positive experience--sadly, one of the rare ones.

I get what they were TRYING to do. They failed. Miserably.

This should have been a movie, not an interactive experience.

Trico responses well but very slowly which it makes it sometimes a bit frustrating. However the boy´s control are just mediocre. You will also be struggling with the camera very often: bad camera angles, sudden blackouts and pointing nowhere.

It is still enjoyable but thanks to its flaws, I never thought I was playing a 10-years-development game. Music and graphics are great. And the story fulfill its objective. Those who have played ICO & SOTC will understand tt despite being not so explanatory, the plot can be very beautiful.

The bound between Trico and the Boy will not be as impressive or touching like Joel and Ellie (TLOU) but is very great indeed. We will see Trico as a companion and we will care about him.

Conclusion: A nice game but it definitely has its flaws which makes it an above-the-average game. Not an instant classic and not recommended for everyone. I would recommend anyone to play SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS, but this is not the case.

I really enjoyed the Last Guardian. It was far from a perfect game but the heart that was put into its creation really shows. I found the game a moving and emotional experience leaving me thinking about it long after completion.

The graphics have a beautiful style similar to ICO. The design of Trico the beast and your companion is truly a technical feat as it feels as if hes a living breathing and very real creature. You fall in love with Trico as you play and you learn his subtle movements and behaviors. Some have complained about the way you control Trico, but I believe that if he respond instantly to commands he would not feel like a real creature. You learn how he moves, how he thinks and reacts and by the last quarter of the game it feels like he responds much better because you have picked up on these small cues.

The level design is at times fantastic and breathtaking. The feeling of height can be dizzying and spectacular. Puzzles range from easy to taxing but always had a logical conclusion. The story plays out through the bond between characters and their adventure rather than regular cut-scenes and this works well meaning the story is created through game-play.

Sound and music really add to the ambiance and fit the story and style very well.

There are some technical issues and the camera angles at times can be frustrating but they didn't spoil what was a magical experience. Like I said I love this game and preferred it over other PS4 exclusives like Uncharted 4.

    I'd highly recommend it.

Great game for those that love platform, puzzle games and slow but meaningful character development. Certain levels can be very difficult at times because of the mediocre controls and camera. Had to look up what to do at one point but it just turned out being a a flawed gaming controls. (The water level and Trico diving)

Like Ico and Shadow of the colossus before, there is only in this 3 games that i found the real feeling of life. Even the occasional struggles with Tricos AI served a purpose in the games narrative. If you have any experience with real animals, you will know they don't always listen, and therefore I find the games portrayal of the relationship between an animal and a man quite realistic. I also enjoyed the games puzzles- They were rarely too difficult but still very rewarding. And don't even get me stared on the environment design. Overall I feel like the game truly shines where it matters most, it nails all the elements required to create a game with powerful emotional impact. Personally I could not care less if the framerate is a little low, or if I experience the occasional glitch, if it means i get to experience all the brilliant parts of this game, and they are plentiful.

    - camera movement
    - character controls
    - minor framerate issues
    - a bit repetitive surroundings

Some of the reviews here are unfair; people are rating the game a 0-4 based solely on the camera and controls. I must agree that the camera is very irritating a lot of the time but it's easy to overlook. The controls are playable but just a bit archaic as they echo the controls in Shadow of the Colossus. While these are obviously important elements for a game, it's not everything.

The hype around this game has been absolutely insane, possibly one of the most hyped up games of the 2010s, if not the 21st century. People are complaining about how the whole game is just about guiding Trico around, but what did you expect? All of the trailers and gameplay videos showed that, and it was made pretty clear from the outset that the main premise of the game would be to guide Trico through puzzles. The AI is mildly unresponsive at times for sure, but try getting a cat to do what you want in real life and see how that goes for you. It portrays Trico as if it were a real animal and not as a robotic AI, so naturally it will not listen to the player some of the time. Saying that, Trico does get more obedient as the game progresses and as the relationship grows. Trico as an AI is an absolutely incredible achievement in gaming. The attention to detail with the movements and habits of different animals and the graphical achievement is fantastic. Trico isn't just a block that bends to the player's will, he genuinely feels like a secondary character and not just a burdening AI.

I have to admit that for the first 20-30 minutes of the game, I found the visuals a bit underwhelming. I thought the game looked very similar to the remastered Shadow of the Colossus so I was slightly disappointed, but as soon as the game progressed outside of the starting area, its true colours were shown, and it's damn pretty. The lighting is phenomenal as it casts a shadow from almost every single feather on Trico's body, and it really sets the mood for the game's final act. It's easy to tell that Team ICO spent most of their time working on Trico, as he is the most graphically advanced element of the game.

The soundtrack is sombre but can swell when tension rises; there isn't much to say about it really, it's just another orchestral soundtrack that lives in the same vein as Team ICO's other games. The audio on the beasts' cries and assorted sounds are brilliant and easily portray the emotions that they're trying to convey.

Despite its gameplay not being the most original and interlinking elements from Team ICO's previous games, it is done in such a way that makes the game feel unique and fresh. Its story is more than meets the eye which was a nice surprise, and isn't as predictable as people originally think.

Overall, this game is most definitely flawed but it's by far Team ICO's most personality filled game to date and all it requires is patience which isn't too much of a task when it's so easy to get lost in its universe.

The ending left me with a bitter sour feeling. I was glad to have witnessed such a beautiful friendship but at the same time I was sad not to be able to play and experience more with Trico.
For those who are annoyed by Trico who doesnt necessarily respond every time: Well thats what makes him seem like an actual living animal instead of a robotic machine...Just like towards a real animal you have to show patience and over the time you really notice how comfortable and trusting Trico becomes and thats an amazing and beautiful feeling for every player! I am so glad to have played this game. Truly the best present I have received

Not a gaming website. The Washington Post? Not a gaming website. Any irrational person would claim that these are bots who are created by the developers to make the game look good. But here's the actual reason. This game was designed for people who have either never played a game before, or don't do it very often. Why is that? Because the game is flawed. Any regular gamer would come in expecting that Trico (Catbird) should listen to everything you say, and the fact that he doesn't makes it frustrating. People who aren't knowledgeable about that kind of thing are going to enjoy the experience a lot more because they don't expect to have full control over something that will just feel like a mindless robot. Even if you don't like this game, you have to appreciate it, as not many games can do this nowadays. So what's my opinion of the game? Well I think it's a masterpiece. The stunning visuals, the incredible soundtrack, the very mysterious, yet intriguing story, the well-paced gameplay, and the incredible bond between you and Trico all made this an experience that was worth the wait. The only problem is the really bad camera, but I've seen worse. Overall, The Last Guardian is an acquired taste that I couldn't recommend to anyone who enjoys more fast-paced games. But for people who don't play video games, enjoyed previous titles from the game's director, Fumito Ueda, or people who just want to play something different, please go out and buy this game. You won't regret it. 9/10. Expand

But it wasn't a super experience due to the poor frame rate in some areas and most of the puzzles were either easy or bland.

    - Trico me ne ha fatte tirare talmente tante per la sua lentezza che son dovuto ricorrere a figure religiose di credi non esistenti;
    - il bimbo assume gli atteggiamenti di un mongospastico nelle situazioni più critiche;
    - la telecamera è il vero villain, almeno negli spazi stretti;
    - i cali di frame sono parte integrante del gameplay e davvero ben curati devo dire.

Visto così uno pensa "Ma che bella cagata atomica". E invece.

It's also exactly a cross between Ico and Shadow of Collosus--and it works, a high work of game art.

It also helps if you appreciated the golden age of 3D platformers 2004-2009. Think Ratchet & Clank, Jak 3, Psychonauts, Tak 2 and Tak 3. In conception, Last Guardian is precisely of this thinking. The only story is solving the puzzles. It's all solving puzzles--some of the best ever devised with the best supporting emotional effects and level design.

The one big thing that ruined the impression for me was the language, which is artificial, but the problem is that the words that we hear are very often the same, although the subtitles suggest that the whole sentence meaning is completely different.

I don't really know what to say about this game. I love playing almost all genres of games, but with this one I have problem with assigning it to one of them. The easiest way to explain The Last Guardian is probably to say that this game is about relationship between human being (player) and the accompanying him animal.

The game is far from perfection and suffers the same problems that afflicted ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. By that, we mean really bad camera work and frustrating controls that are somehow unresponsive.

Those problems will give you headaches and you may well end up throwing your controller in the wall at times. One of the other deceiving side to The Last Guardian is probably it's visuals that seem to be have been stuck to ICO's era. On the PS3, those would have been just fine and almost great. But on PS4, it's kind of not acceptable. Some would say that the graphics are part of the game's art direction, but I don't think so. Seems to me that the game have been in development for so long that it hasn't been built from the ground up on a new engine at all. Draw distances are bad, the scenery mostly lost in an eerie fog mostly seem to be a memory space saving technique than a wanted ambiance setting.

BUT... yes, BUT! If you see past those major problems, you will find out an absolutely charming game that does one thing really good: having the ability of erasing it's flaws thanks to an absolutely absorbing gaming experience. I was really skeptic when I was playing though the first 10-20 minutes of the game. But all of a sudden, I found myself feeling involved in the characters relation and felt like it was almost impossible to put the controller down.

The Last Guardian is an emotional journey, one that will touch you right to the heart. Even with clunky controls and bad camera works, we tend to forget all about those and stay focused on the game's tale. You will get that kind of love/hate duality all through the game but ultimately, you will end up enjoying and loving the game more than you hate it. By the second half of the game, you won't mind it's flaws and find yourself having one of the best gaming experiences of 2016. Well, I surprisingly did.

If you liked ICO and SotC on PS3 or any other games that rely on "room-puzzle" solving and narrative settings, you will love The Last Guardian. And believe me, this game is an absolute must if you dig that kind of games. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more action packed experience, you better look elsewhere because you won't find it here.

At first, I was scared of being deceived by The Last Guardian, mostly due to it's ridiculous development progress and the numerous release dates that kept on being pushed back. In the end, I ended up playing a wonderful game that had me very surprised by it's overall quality, one that succeeds on helping me forget about everything that didn't work well in the game. Quite honestly, I anticipated this game to be part of our 2016 Worst Games Top 10 and after playing through it, I can assure you that it won't. It won't make it on our Best Games of 2016 either, but it's definitely a game to give a try to.

This is a 9/10 or a 10/10 game, depending on whether you think knocking off 10% because of the frustrating camera is justified. This is a game that'll go down as a classic, just like SOTC. But if you're immature and unintelligent and only like playing FIFA, Call of Duty and suchlike, this won't be for you.

Put it this way. This is a FAR better game than Uncharted 4. Uncharted 4, while enjoyable, is rather dull and unimaginative. We've seen it all before. None of us have seen The Last Guardian before. You will actually connect with a fantasy videogame creature on an emotional level. People really wanted them to release it, so that is what they did. They probably wanted to work further on it, so the controls and other small things would be fixed.

It is so emotional and there are so many small details. I just love this game.

The Last Guardian has very much everything I've expected for a Ueda-Game, control won't be an issue when you finally find the core point of the game. I found what I'm looking for in this fast paced gaming world, if 7 years is what it takes to make such wonderful experience, I am waiting for the next one to come.

A must play if you have a PS4. Expand

Expand

The game have many problem like controls, camera, ps3 graphic, weak framerate, but all other parts are so wonderful: world, story, art, mystery, atmosphere, puzzles. Game is pure 8/10 but because of last 1h I will give it 9/10. Also hard trophy, I only got 5 in first walktrought.

Ueda-San, you've made it again. Your game was one of the best experiences I've ever played, and I don't regret of having expected almost 8 years; the wait was worth every second. I'm very happy to say that The Last Guardian becomes in my favorite game of 2016, mi favorite game for PS4, onr my favorite games of PlayStation's Story and it's now with my favorite games ever. Yeah, the are some technical issues, and I don't understand the omission of R1 for grabbing. But even of all those, The game is such an awesome masterpiece, that, those problems don't even matter. Everyone owner of a PS4 should play The Last Guardian. Expand

This game like Ico and Shadow of the colossus take my tears and my heart. Games who gives these emotions are rares. The game has some technichal issues but it's a masterpiece anyway.

    Thank you Fumito and developpers.

Beautiful. Amazing. Masterpiece. Must have. Trico is such a wonderful creature, he was a bit intimidating at the beginnin, but then he grows in me. The ending makes my eyes wet.

Worst controls and camera I have ever experienced. I probably could have liked the game, but never felt immersed because I was continually distracted by the very poorly designed control system. I probably could have liked the game, but never felt immersed because I was continually distracted by the very poorly designed control system. I played about 4 hours of the game but eventually gave up because it was a constant struggle to move and look in the direction I wanted. If this was the first game I had ever played on my PS4 I would have seriously thought something was wrong with my controller. After each session I came away with a slight headache which I put down to mild motion sickness from the game doing what it wanted to do rather than what I wanted to do. For example, your character either tiptoes or sprints, no in-between. Tiptoeing was fine for the first scene, but never needed afterwards, and sprinting prevented me from being able to explore at a leisurely pace. And when you sprinted, sometimes the camera followed you, but other times it just let you sprint off into the distance with the camera remaining in place (I'm guessing that it was perhaps a visual guide that you weren't meant to go in that direction at that point in the game, but I would have much preferred it to track me consistently and let me learn the right way on my own). Another example, when moving the camera, I could never predict what it would do - most of the time it would start scanning slowly for about 1 second and then speed up (which I never got used to), sometimes it would just continue to scan very slowly, and on occasion it would actually drag you in the other direction when the programmers clearly wanted you to look in a particular direction (I initially thought this was being done to give clues, but sometimes it just had you looking at a tree or up in the air). Climbing Trico was also often painful - I frequently ended up in an armpit rather than on its back. And other times when I was trying to jump off Trico, the character would sometimes just refuse to let go. Accentuating the usability problem, often the entire top right quarter of the screen would be filled with excessively large instructions about what buttons you should be pressing, with no options for turning off these overly frequent reminders. Ultimately I gave up on the battle. The graphics and puzzles were OK, but only at "good indie" level, not worth the blockbuster pricing that I paid. I haven't played any of the earlier games in the series, so I didn't have any sense of nostalgia which may have helped me be a little more forgiving. This the first game in many years that I've bought where I really feel like I wasted my money. If you really want to try this game, wait until it is heavily discounted, and be prepared to be VERY patient with clumsy controls. Expand

After 7 years in what seems to be development hell, Team Ico finally introduces us to the majestic Trico and its heartfelt relationship with a young protagonist. While the long development cycle does show its age in certain parts up to a point of some frustration. The experience as a whole is one of the most unique ever.

The Last guardian is indeed suffering from some technical and control input issues, but its warm, beautiful adventure filled with countless touching moments is something we’ll never forget for the rest of our lives. The Last Guardian is not just a game, it’s an absolute work of art.

The Last Guardian doesn't just live up to its forebears' legacy, it goes further. Despite the callbacks to Fumito Ueda's previous works, it is a unique creation. Outside of indie experiments, we don't get to say that about modern videogames often enough.
