    I am playing games usually not for grind fest or some basic mechanics. I am considering games as an art. And games like The Lost Guardian prove that games can be emotional and express some artistic style.
    At first, I was little annoyed by poor controls and bad came in the game. Trico controls are not working all the time and puzzles are not amusing. But after time you are starting to getting emotional attachment and I think this is the most important thing that developers wanted to achieve. It feels more like you and your big friend are just going through adventure. It feels cozy and warm. Trico starting to feel as real animal. You care about each other .
    And closer to the end game is becoming more interesting in terms of action and story. In the end I am satisfied. I think the most important thing here is an emotional part. If you are gamer that loves videogames as an art that game is for you. If game had better technical quality I would give it 10 out of 10 and it will be legendary.    … Expand

    Let me get The Last Guardian's cons out of the way first. I was quite vexed by the clunky camera and motion-sickened (at times) by the frame rate drops. I also disliked Trico's AI a bit, which left me waiting for nothing after shouting a command--a more obvious visual queue would have been appreciated on this front.     It's a work of art simply because of the sheer beauty of the entire experience. There's nothing quite like The Last Guardian in terms of its braveness to convey a story so simple and yet so effective. This is a game that will quickly let you know it's going to be an emotional journey and does not try to hide it. And at the end of it all, you get just that--a simple and honest, emotionally charged reward of an ending.

    Grandioso juego, una pena que no haya tenido demasiadas ventas y el rendimiento del juego no vaya del todo fluido. Me he quedado asombrado con el comportamiento de Trico, se le termina cogiendo cariño al bicho de lo bien hecho que está. Lo de que no obedezca directamente las órdenes que le damos me parece un acierto, le da mucho más realismo a su comportamiento.     A unique, one of a kind game, highly recommended for all animal lovers. The experience with Trico will be remembered for years to come.

    Trico is actually not that hard to control so long as you know how to correctly interact with him. The major flaw I find in this game is the dull enemy design. But the best ever animal made in video games can make up for everything.

    The Last Guardian fortunately has a lot of advantages. The story and narration are interesting and the game is full of surprises and twists you won't expect. The bond you create with main characters is unheard of and keeps you thinking about the game after you finish it. Trico is convincing and you really care for him.

    Level design is just amazing - nearly everything you see is a place you'll eventually visit later on. The route you should take is not always obvious but it gives a feeling of satisfaction once you figure it out. Soundtrack is stunning and compliments the game perfectly, just as the animations and cutscenes.

    It's also worth mentioning that this game is quite difficult. Some puzzles are not so obvious and take a few minutes to figure out. You also don't give commands to Trico but rather give it hints. It's an AI and it doesn't always understand what you want just like animal would in real life. If you pet it and give clear clues, it will do what you wish. Later on you get used to that and giving commands to Trico becomes very easy.

    It took me about 11-12h to finish The Last Guardian. I have to say that it had only quality content and no filler. The ending was truly satisfying - just wait for credits to roll, the real ending is after them. It certainly isn't a game for impatient or action-oriented players. It's about immersing yourself and caring about lead characters. I will certainly replay it many times.

    I think that game should score about 8/10 just because of controls and camera. However I loved it so much and think about it a lot after playing it, I give it 9/10. It was fantastic experience.    … Expand

    The Last Guardian is a game like no other. The story it tells is easily one of the best in gaming. The ability to grab at one's emotions makes this an unforgettable experience. Trico is a character I will not soon forget. The only problems involve the messy camera and a few glitches. They do not, however, take away from this amazing experience.

    I really enjoyed the Last Guardian. It was far from a perfect game but the heart that was put into its creation really shows. I found the game a moving and emotional experience leaving me thinking about it long after completion.

    The graphics have a beautiful style similar to ICO. You fall in love with Trico as you play and you learn his subtle movements and behaviors. Some have complained about the way you control Trico, but I believe that if he respond instantly to commands he would not feel like a real creature. You learn how he moves, how he thinks and reacts and by the last quarter of the game it feels like he responds much better because you have picked up on these small cues.

    The level design is at times fantastic and breathtaking. The feeling of height can be dizzying and spectacular. Puzzles range from easy to taxing but always had a logical conclusion. The story plays out through the bond between characters and their adventure rather than regular cut-scenes and this works well meaning the story is created through game-play.

    Sound and music really add to the ambiance and fit the story and style very well.

    There are some technical issues and the camera angles at times can be frustrating but they didn't spoil what was a magical experience. Like I said I love this game and preferred it over other PS4 exclusives like Uncharted 4.

Any regular gamer would come in expecting that Trico (Catbird) should listen to everything you say, and the fact that he doesn't makes it frustrating. People who aren't knowledgeable about that kind of thing are going to enjoy the experience a lot more because they don't expect to have full control over something that will just feel like a mindless robot. Even if you don't like this game, you have to appreciate it, as not many games can do this nowadays. So what's my opinion of the game? Well I think it's a masterpiece. The stunning visuals, the incredible soundtrack, the very mysterious, yet intriguing story, the well-paced gameplay, and the incredible bond between you and Trico all made this an experience that was worth the wait. The only problem is the really bad camera, but I've seen worse. Overall, The Last Guardian is an acquired taste that I couldn't recommend to anyone who enjoys more fast-paced games.     Regardless of frustrating controls and camera movement, this is a truly amazing game. All the cons are completely substituted by excellent story, which is more emotional than I'm used to in games. Great work, and Trico character is truly marvelous. Definite recommendation to people who are into these types of games.

    The game have many problem like controls, camera, ps3 graphic, weak framerate, but all other parts are so wonderful: world, story, art, mystery, atmosphere, puzzles. Game is pure 8/10 but because of last 1h I will give it 9/10. Also hard trophy, I only got 5 in first walktrought.

    This game is very much a mix of the 2 with more emphasis on the ico side...
    It’s very puzzle heavy... but thankfully in a much more casual way than ico…
    This is more about finding alternate routes than it is putting items in the right spots…
    The puzzle solving itself isn’t the frustrating part..
    It’s one thing to figure it out... it’s another to actually execute it…
    It’s a little tough dealing with the platforming as it feels very dated and has verticality issues modern days have polished up these past 9 years like the backwards wall jump…
    But the real frustrations comes in with giving commands to Trico
    I spent 12 hours with this game to beat it and I still don’t understand how to command Trico..
    The game tells you to hold R1 while you move, but it also tells you to hold r1 and press any of the 4 action buttons... but it never really tells you what each do other than triangle…
    Leading me to frustratingly button mash to get Trico to go to or do what I want him to…
    And this is nonstop as its necessary to use Trico to jump to higher locations or reach a hole in the wall..
    And again... these puzzles aren’t necessarily brain teasers…
    I would’ve preferred Trico acting on his own automatically when I would climb on top of him or stand near a progress point than me giving the command…
    It would’ve completely killed the frustration without hurting the experience of the game…
    It’s so hard to tell if it’s time to get off and explore to progress or if Trico just isn’t going forward when he should most of the time… Had Trico been more on rails, the game would’ve moved along more smoothly
    As you are exploring these locations... there are threats
    There are these suits of armor characters that try to kidnap you…
    Trico will always come to your rescue when he can, but there are a few annoying spots where you have to outsmart them to bet to a certain item or switch.. Which in the moment feels very stressful, but looking back I can appreciate them all… These moments you’re alone feel tense and horrifying…
    IF Trico does help you, there’s a large chance he’ll get injured…
    He can’t die from combat but after a fight you will more than likely have to pull arrows out of him, feed him with barrels around when he gets hungry, and pet him to calm him down…
    It really creates a caring and loving bond between you 2, stopping him from ever feeling like he’s just there..
    You need him to get home and he needs you to get out.
    So while yes… this bird dogs is going to frustrate you at times, you can’t help but love him the entire way…
    This is a beautiful story about the bond between man and beast and is a must play.

    The only negative thing I have to say about this game is that the camera can ben annoying sometimes which makes some parts really frustrating and I do not care much about it but some things have the graphics of a PS3 model.

    A story-fueled masterpiece. Sure, The Last Guardian has It's fair share of technical issues and whatnot, but they are far outweighed by the excellent soundtrack, fantastic visuals, and masterful story expertly woven together in this package. I'm just hoping Team Ico can deliver with the Shadow of the Colossus remake coming next year.

    Clumsy control? Yes. But THAT ENDING sublimes the whole game. If you liked ICO, you'll love this one, undoubtedly. If you didn't like ICO, you may still fall in love with this game, or just with Trico.

    I absolutely love almost everything about this game. Sure, the controls were sometimes frustrating, and the frame-rate can be a bit bad at times. But those are minor complaints compared to the amazing experience the game gave me.

    The Last Guardian can at times be very frustrating, mostly due to the realistic behaviour of Trico. This could be seen as both a positive and negative thing, depending on your stance. For me it just deepened my bond with him, making the whole experience of the journey incredibly satisfying. Despite a few obvious gameplay flaws, The Last Guardian triumphs and soars when it gels.

    This is a beautiful game. I give it a 9 because of the emotional story, the game concept, the character design of Trico, the fantastic environment artwork and especially the very convincing bond between the boy and Trico at the end of the game. The ending was touching, I really liked it.

Sometimes the camera is to close or Trico just doesn't do what you try to tell him. If you are patient and have enough time this isn't really a big problem. Another point is that the environment looks very beautiful in the bright fog, this creates depth and the visual style, but the evening lighting without fog in the last part of the game doesn't look convincing.     The Last Guardian is everything a good game should be. A great experience. While the gameplay may not be your cup of tea, and there are a few short comings, everything in this fantasy world is gripping and feels believable. From the amazing connection between the boy and the beast, to the gorgeously animated movements, this game is a must own on your PS4.

    Story - I dont want to spoil things, but i can assure you. The story is Amazing. In summary, You are just a mysterious boy who wound up in an unknown place together with a creature the boy named trico. Its whole campaign is both of you trying to escape together in that place while also learning the secrets behind it. What i really loved in this game is the growing chemistry andStory - I dont want to spoil things, but i can assure you. The story is Amazing. What i really loved in this game is the growing chemistry and relationship of the two characters, at start, trico is really hard to pet or order and sometimes aggressive to you. But soon in the game, he will act like a pet who is always looking for his owner and will do everything for him. regardless it is an awesome experience. 10/10 for these part

    Graphics - Environment-wise, the game is beautiful though sometimes too bright. the frame rates is good in the PS4 Pro but struggles to be maintained in the standard PS4. However, everything is detailed, from the grass to the buildings and large posts and how everything crumbles in timed puzzles or etc. A very very pretty game to see. However, my biggest problem in the game is the animation of the main boy character, he is really out of place, i know they want the game to be artistic, but everything looks realistic from the environment to the creature Trico and suddenly you have a boy which is like a character made in the low graphics mode in the PS3. Sorry, cant really avoid that. A score of 8/10 will do.

    Gameplay - Now i see everyone hating on this part. But the devs already said before that it is bot for everyone. Why??? Because IF YOU HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED HAVING A PET IN YOUR LIFE THEN YOU WILL BE FRUSTRATED AND IMPATIENT TO TRICO. As for me, who had a pet dog. I really am amazed how realistic Trico is as an animal or pet. He is slow to react at first, easily distracted, easily scared of that weird rainbow like signs and his reaction when hungry, hurt or worried about you is spot on. I really am grown to love Trico. As for the negatives, the controls are clunky, the camera is bad esp at small place which adds unneeded difficulty in the game and how easy the puzzles are even though they are not giving much hint to you in game. A good 8/10 for me in this aspect.

    Music - Well, the soothing style of instruments playing when you are in a pretty place, exploring, etc. is really spot on. The music is beautiful, it is slow, mellow and really soothes your soul in a sense that you wont be scared to what lies ahead of you. Though could have wanted more music int he game cause everything is identical to the other. A score of 9/10 for me.

    As a game which used a total of 7 years to developed (those who has no idea or never followed the game think it is 10 years) and IS MEANT TO BE A PS3 GAME and NOT ON PS2 (Sorry, need to educate some low IQ people) I am relieved and happy that they made a very good game like this, yes it has some problems but ICO and Shadow of Colossus the same had ones. So far, just the same with the previous two games team ico has made, this game has gave me a really memorable story and would not have second doubts to replay is again and again. I am really happy that these game is out here and as a long time follower to this game i am now able to enjoy and play. Atleast now we can all move on to the development hell everyone suffered and i am wishing team ico good luck for the game next game they are doing. Thanks. That is all.    … Expand

    Una experiencia muy bonita entre el niño y Trico. No es para todos los públicos, sin embargo a mi me a conmovido. La jugabilidad es bastante buena y la música es maravillosa. Un juego de sobresaliente aunque resbale en algunos puntos como el poder gráfico.

Trico will help the player through puzzles as much as the player will help him, whether it be through his vocalisations, his positioning, or his head movements. The Last Guardian is a masterclass in level design, with a scale rarely seen in games. In combination with high-stakes platforming, it makes for a nail biting experience. The weaknesses that TLG has are the camera (which doesn't need to be moved as much, and can be improved by raising the sensitivity to 100%) and that there is a great deal of depth to the interactions with Trico that may be missed by players. Unfortunately, even basic interactions seem to have been lost on a lot of players, which could be alleviated with the addition of a unsubtle tutorial. TLG is a once in a generation experience, with one of the most memorable endings in gaming history. Like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus before it, it will be influencing both developers and players for generations to come.     So many negative reviews on this game on metacritics, and i don't get it. I've played Shadow of the Colossus and ico, these where the best games I've ever played. The thing is with this game, it gives you the feeling you are in a strange world and all those buildings with there unique style had some purpose once, this game let's you believe this, and yes the controls are not perfect, butSo many negative reviews on this game on metacritics, and i don't get it. The game suffers heavily from frame rate drops and the occasional glitch and breaks the immersion. At no point did Trico feel fake or computerised, he/she is so realistic and believable I am still feeling very emotional. If you can get pastFinished the game.     The Last Guardian has very much everything I've expected for a Ueda-Game, control won't be an issue when you finally find the core point of the game. I found what I'm looking for in this fast paced gaming world, if 7 years is what it takes to make such wonderful experience, I am waiting for the next one to come.

    - la telecamera è il vero villain, almeno negli spazi stretti;
    - i cali di frame sono parte integrante del gameplay e davvero ben curati devo dire.

    Visto così uno pensa "Ma che bella cagata atomica". E invece.

    Arrivi a soffrire d'ansia nelle situazioni più critiche e a star male con Trico o il bambino o entrambi in gravi condizioni. Tenti in tutti i modi di farli stare meglio e, quando li vedi aiutarsi a vicenda, il cuore ti si scioglie. Più in là, capisci che il rapporto tra i due ormai coinvolge anche te, e ti ritrovi a parlare ad uno schermo, convinto che ascoltino ciò che hai da dire. Così facendo e riflettendoci bene, realizzi quale sia stato l'intento del gioco fin dall'inizio: giocare. Si giocare, ma con le tue emozioni.

    Ragazzi, io sono il primo a dire che il gioco non è perfetto, infatti ho riportato i difetti principali poco fa. Ma fidatevi quando vi dico che una volta iniziato, il gioco stesso ti obbliga a finirlo. Inutile che tu resista, non puoi fare a meno di sapere come andrà a finire la "breve" storia dei due amici. Tutte le emozioni che provi nel corso dell'avventura, brutte o belle che siano, fanno passare in secondo piano gli aspetti negativi.

    Very immersive game and actually really emotional aswell, gameplay not perfect but after playing for a short while you are extremely involved and get used to any problems because of the interactions with trico (my new favourite game character!! Awesome!!) great game, great puzzles, great friendship, great ending, really enjoyed it

The bond feels natural and builds as the game progresses, the puzzles are fun and have a good range of challenge in the difficulty level and the environment and music add up to create a strange and mystical world that feels original and isolated.
    The game will make you swear, laugh and maybe even cry. You'll be rooting for Trico and the boy and praying it all ends well. It has left a lasting impression that can't quite be shaken and though it's unlikely I'd love to see more from these characters and this setting in the future.     I thought the game was amazing. Despite the obvious technical flaws, it's still a beautifully detailed game with an immersive world surrounded by an sense of mystique. The culmination of Fumito Ueda's labours of storytelling love. The chemistry between the protagonist and Trico is very enjoyable to watch it evolve as time goes on and the story, although subtle, unfolds into a satisfying conclusion at the end of it all.

    It has technical flaws, but if you're a fan of Team Ico's other games I'm sure you'll be able to tolerate them. Making way for the absolute diamond in the rough that is The Last Guardian. Solid 8.5/10, bumping it up to a 9 to counter all the mindless and poorly-constructed 1-point reviews this game has been receiving.    … Expand

    An emotional roller coaster ride playing this. its unique, different and nostalgic to team ICO’s work, beautiful visuals I dropped one point due to Trico’s lack of response on couple of occasions but apart from that, brilliant game.

The graphics (PS4) isn't the best but it is good, the handle begin almost difficult but you learn how to move and how to control with Trico. My advise is all the time look the behavior in Trico.

    Additional Note: I've noticed some people complain that the game doesn't take long to complete. I question whether or not these people used a walkthrough guide to complete the game.     Its a few of the developers and creators behind the epic Shadow Of the Colossus who created this game. And yes, its beautiful, yes its grandiose. Yes we are to venture into a fabled story yet again.

    What i did not enjoy 100% on SoC was the controls. That fever seemed to have cathed on into this game. Its a bit rubbery and slow, and the camera plays drunken tricks on you.
    But they are not critically bad as you might think, but they are the reason why i drop a point of the score.
    The story is magnificent. And its here why you should play the game. You play a little boy who wakes up in a cave together with a large lion/bird hybrid fable animal you call Trico. The progression of the games tells you the bond of this boy and the beast as they closely bond tighter as they venture.
    As the boy, you must use Trico to reach unreachable areas. You must feed him, help him, and tend to him if he gets wounded.
    You learn a few tricks to communicate with Trico as you go, like issuing commands as direction and jump.
    Basically you are going somewhere to unravel the mystery of Trico and why you ended up with him. But no spoilers here.. The story is a heartwarming tale of friendship and trust.

    The game shares the minimalistic content as SoC. It´s focused to your mission with very little distraction to do other things. You solve puzzles continuously in your journey and often comes into battle with foes as well. As much as the maps go, its a more exciting world than SoC. Instead of a large flat world where you go from east to west, in TLG you are going one way.. Up. That means massive towers, and there are som very gut-wrenching areas to traverse.

    Me sorprendió mucho lo vivo que se llega a sentir Trico, en ocasiones llega a ser frustrante intentar hacer que obedezca ordenes, pero siento que eso hace que se sienta mas real.

Not to forget that very often you command something but the result at the end is some completely different thing or wrong direction of your companion's jump, etc. These things really slow down the gameplay and from time to time can be frustrating.     Lo bueno del juego es que mantiene el espíritu de sus antecesores, un juego minimalista, contemplativo , reflexivo y en donde tienes que observar cada detalle de tu entorno para encontrar el camino a una pronta salida. En cuanto a los personajes, te haces parte de su amistad y cariño mutuo, con un final muy conmovedor. Lo malo sigue siendo las cámaras que complica tu trayecto, también la mecánica de juego a la hora de tratar de soltarte de Trico o moverte por su cuerpo, por momentos tiene baja de frames muy notorios. Por lo demás son solo tecnicismos que no tienen nada que ver con la historia y el juego en sí.
    En estos tiempos de pandemia es un juego imprescindible para aprovechar su pausado camino entre tanto juegos vertiginosos. Para cerrar, creo que se hubiese convertido en un juego de culto como ICO o Shadow of the Colosus si hubiese salido en PS3 como estaba estimado en un principio.     Some clunky game mechanics can't get in the way of this fantastic game. Especially the second half which really starts to fire on all cylinders. Some of the best cutscenes ever, and the creature, Trico, you learn to hate then love (My dog is called Trico). I would love a sequel to this game.

    Played in PS5, so I avoided the framerate issues.. the controls are a bit laggy, but u get over it along the way.. it's an Incredible journey.. the way the friendship is build between the boy and trico is amazing.. and brought me to tears in the end.. totally worth it.

    What a story, what character tricco is...as an experience dog person... I was annoyed when tricco didn't understand me ....I find it truly magic and charming. ... Controls are as unique, camera is an issue of course but Is usable ... Played on ps5 so no dips whatsoever , great chance to play this if you haven't

    I loved the story. Actually by the end of this game I couldn't stop thinking how we should have a movie adaptation of this game. The camera and the controllers on the other hard were sub par, but the story compensated for that.

    On one hand, the amount of charm, love and effort that went into this game does not go unnoticed. The enviroments are incredible, huge in scale and unique in arquitecture, feeling both natural and well thought: the sound design increases the impact of the scenery, adding nature sounds like wind across the stone arcs, or the tweets of birds high flying across the imposible buildings sorrounding the player, that's speaking for the enviroments and universe.

    I will talk about the creature, Trico, the undeniable star of the game. Trico is beautiful, huge, intimidating, scary, tender, obedient, rebel, in other words: a true animal. In no other game i've felt like wandering arround side to side a wild creaature, a magnificent one, and that comes with a price: some frustration, you see, the beast does not always behave like you expect, and that surely hurts the game flow, but in other hand, it adds to the immersion. Its a double edged sword, the authenticity of the beast: feels real, and also feels thedious. Eventually, you gain the ability to signal the beast and pin point whichever place or direction you want the crature to go, and it's not to shabby, most of the times Trico did as commanded, but on those rare instances when he didn't, some frustration ensued.

    Now, the true issue with this game are the controls, and that's a very hard thing to explain, i can't make it justice with written words, but in a nutshell they feel "tanky and ragdoll-like". The nameless kid the player controls is so fragile, weak, fragile and... useless, that most of the actions he performs come with obnoxious side effects: climbing into the creature's back is weird, also the movement, sometimes the kid goes (while climbing) unto an undesired directon, other times he falls flat on his face while running, or does not let go of Trico when you press the "let go" button. Also, the Camera can sometimes mess your jump timming, your location and... i would say your gameplay, the camera is Ok on the best scenario, terrible at the worst.

    Technically, the game is also on the lower end of the spectrum: i noticed lots of frame drops on my vanilla Ps4, but nowhere near terrible or unbearable, specially for the nature of the game, if this was an action focused game, that would be unforgivable, but on this puzzle-platforming oriented game, is just an annoyance (which, granted, given the nature of the game it SHOULD run smoothly)

    So... why do i give it a high rate?. Because NO OTHER GAME is like this game (you can argue ICO is similar, but i disagree). The bond with Trico is natural, progresive, the beast itself earns its place on your heart, and the amount of stuff that happens in the game makes you feel a closer connection with the crature. it's amazing the amount of complex feelings this game can give with having very very few lines of dialogue: this game is the clear example of "showing instead of telling" when it comes to both of its main characters. Also, it helps that for once the game's ending is not somber nor tragic. We need more endings like this game has.

    In the end, despite its obvious flaws, i absolutely loved this game, and as a long time fan of Fumito Ueda (game's director, also director of Shadow of Colossus and ICO), i am greatly satisfied with the end result, and i consider this game the best of his works yet, and i am happy that this game came to exist: it's an unique game, and one that will earn lots of cult following for the years to come.

I must agree that the camera is very irritating a lot of the time but it's easy to overlook. The controls are playable but just a bit archaic as they echo the controls in Shadow of the Colossus. While these are obviously important elements for a game, it's not everything.

    The hype around this game has been absolutely insane, possibly one of the most hyped up games of the 2010s, if not the 21st century. People are complaining about how the whole game is just about guiding Trico around, but what did you expect? All of the trailers and gameplay videos showed that, and it was made pretty clear from the outset that the main premise of the game would be to guide Trico through puzzles. The AI is mildly unresponsive at times for sure, but try getting a cat to do what you want in real life and see how that goes for you. It portrays Trico as if it were a real animal and not as a robotic AI, so naturally it will not listen to the player some of the time. Saying that, Trico does get more obedient as the game progresses and as the relationship grows. Trico as an AI is an absolutely incredible achievement in gaming. The attention to detail with the movements and habits of different animals and the graphical achievement is fantastic. Trico isn't just a block that bends to the player's will, he genuinely feels like a secondary character and not just a burdening AI.

    I have to admit that for the first 20-30 minutes of the game, I found the visuals a bit underwhelming. I thought the game looked very similar to the remastered Shadow of the Colossus so I was slightly disappointed, but as soon as the game progressed outside of the starting area, its true colours were shown, and it's damn pretty. The lighting is phenomenal as it casts a shadow from almost every single feather on Trico's body, and it really sets the mood for the game's final act. It's easy to tell that Team ICO spent most of their time working on Trico, as he is the most graphically advanced element of the game.

    The soundtrack is sombre but can swell when tension rises; there isn't much to say about it really, it's just another orchestral soundtrack that lives in the same vein as Team ICO's other games. The audio on the beasts' cries and assorted sounds are brilliant and easily portray the emotions that they're trying to convey.

    Despite its gameplay not being the most original and interlinking elements from Team ICO's previous games, it is done in such a way that makes the game feel unique and fresh. Its story is more than meets the eye which was a nice surprise, and isn't as predictable as people originally think.

    Overall, this game is most definitely flawed but it's by far Team ICO's most personality filled game to date and all it requires is patience which isn't too much of a task when it's so easy to get lost in its universe.    … Expand

    Great game for those that love platform, puzzle games and slow but meaningful character development. Certain levels can be very difficult at times because of the mediocre controls and camera. Had to look up what to do at one point but it just turned out being a a flawed gaming controls. (The water level and Trico diving)

    There were a few camera control issues (while trying to climb Trico in enclosed areas) but no worse than other games in its ilk.

    Overall, I thought it was a really lovely game, had an involving story, looked pretty and had a lovely soundtrack which was complemented by an infrequent Japanese narrative.
    Controlling Trico was sometimes very frustrating so I had to drop 2 marks for taking the polish off an otherwise great game.
    You can complete the game in a couple of sittings so I recommend that you buy a physical copy so that you can trade it in afterwards as there's not much to offer in terms of replay (unless you're a trophy hound).    … Expand

The objective is to escape from a fortress inside a crater and Trico's big size and strength will be necessary to overcome puzzles and obstacles, and also to defeat enemies (the boy can't defeat them all by himself). But to command his actions is not that simple. He's an animal after all and to make him execute one task you will need to repeat gestures and commands a lot do make Trico figure what you want him to do. Also, he gets hungry sometimes and we'll refuse to work if you don't bring food.

    I see what developers tried to do, make him look and feel like a real animal. For most of time it works very well, but now and then Trico will test your patient. He gets distracted very often and sometimes we'll do what he wants to do. You'll need to constantly ask for his attention to execute every task and i can some people getting annoyed by this, specially during one particular sequence where Trico needs to dive. It's the most frustrating bit of the game by far and will probably get a lot of tries and swearing to beat this part. Honestly, i still can't say what i did wrong.

    Also, the controls are not perfectly responsive, specially when i was trying to drop from Trico's body. The boy keeps getting stick on his feathers and the camera gets crazy. Jumping from a rope or chain to a platform is also very imprecise.

    However, all the struggle to command Trico and constant fighting with the controls and camera are absolutely worth. The game is beautiful, fun, fresh and the friendship between the boy you play and the beast is very nice to watch and has a lot of touching moments.    … Expand

    Despite i didn´t like some parts (repetitive and slow) this game gets better after playing. Technically poor with some dated graphics/inconsistent frame rate (sometimes very bad) and some gameplay deficiencies. Nevertheless it presents a great level design.     I think this game is a revelation. There are a problem with the cam in small space, but the rest is incredible. I love It.The puzzles are well made and the emotional charge in the last part is to strong. During the adventure you create a feeling with Trico and grows more and more. This game isnt for all videogamer but Ico and Shadow of the Colossus gamer have no problem to buy it.

By that, we mean really bad camera work and frustrating controls that are somehow10 years after the beginning of it's development, The Last Guardian succeeds in capturing the player's attention and interest, thanks to it's incredibly absorbing tale and endearing setting. The game is far from perfection and suffers the same problems that afflicted ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. By that, we mean really bad camera work and frustrating controls that are somehow unresponsive.

    Those problems will give you headaches and you may well end up throwing your controller in the wall at times. One of the other deceiving side to The Last Guardian is probably it's visuals that seem to be have been stuck to ICO's era. On the PS3, those would have been just fine and almost great. But on PS4, it's kind of not acceptable. Some would say that the graphics are part of the game's art direction, but I don't think so. Seems to me that the game have been in development for so long that it hasn't been built from the ground up on a new engine at all. Draw distances are bad, the scenery mostly lost in an eerie fog mostly seem to be a memory space saving technique than a wanted ambiance setting.

    BUT... yes, BUT! If you see past those major problems, you will find out an absolutely charming game that does one thing really good: having the ability of erasing it's flaws thanks to an absolutely absorbing gaming experience. I was really skeptic when I was playing though the first 10-20 minutes of the game. But all of a sudden, I found myself feeling involved in the characters relation and felt like it was almost impossible to put the controller down.

    The Last Guardian is an emotional journey, one that will touch you right to the heart. Even with clunky controls and bad camera works, we tend to forget all about those and stay focused on the game's tale. You will get that kind of love/hate duality all through the game but ultimately, you will end up enjoying and loving the game more than you hate it. By the second half of the game, you won't mind it's flaws and find yourself having one of the best gaming experiences of 2016. Well, I surprisingly did.

    If you liked ICO and SotC on PS3 or any other games that rely on "room-puzzle" solving and narrative settings, you will love The Last Guardian. And believe me, this game is an absolute must if you dig that kind of games. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more action packed experience, you better look elsewhere because you won't find it here.

    At first, I was scared of being deceived by The Last Guardian, mostly due to it's ridiculous development progress and the numerous release dates that kept on being pushed back. In the end, I ended up playing a wonderful game that had me very surprised by it's overall quality, one that succeeds on helping me forget about everything that didn't work well in the game. Quite honestly, I anticipated this game to be part of our 2016 Worst Games Top 10 and after playing through it, I can assure you that it won't. It won't make it on our Best Games of 2016 either, but it's definitely a game to give a try to.    … Expand

    If you accept that this game is more of an interactive movie, the game is unique and amazing. If you want a game that you have more control over, play Shadow of Colossus. IMO this game was made for families, the imagination is brilliant and the relationship between the boy and the beast is something a kid will remember for a long time.     Wow! The hype level for this game was above the roof. The long long long awaited game I believer delivers what it sets out to do. I do believe this will be split though. If people keep there expectations in check they will enjoy it.

    After 7 years in what seems to be development hell, Team Ico finally introduces us to the majestic Trico and its heartfelt relationship with a young protagonist. While the long development cycle does show its age in certain parts up to a point of some frustration. The experience as a whole is one of the most unique ever.

    The Last guardian is indeed suffering from some technical and control input issues, but its warm, beautiful adventure filled with countless touching moments is something we’ll never forget for the rest of our lives. The Last Guardian is not just a game, it’s an absolute work of art.

    The Last Guardian doesn't just live up to its forebears' legacy, it goes further. Despite the callbacks to Fumito Ueda's previous works, it is a unique creation. Outside of indie experiments, we don't get to say that about modern videogames often enough.
