    Fun but plain action game in the vein of Stranglehold and Hotline Miami. There's not enough variety to keep you interested for long, but at least it's an intense action game.

    The Hong Kong Massacre is a game with a specific goal--to capture the feeling of an over-the-top John Woo-style slow-motion diving kill shot, and it succeeds. The game's faults are washed away whenever you leap out of the way of a bullet and quickly take out the person who fired it. It's a game that sticks with you when you're not playing it, as you think through different approaches to the room you died in last time. You'll fail frequently, and the repetition can wear you down, but it's hard to resist the temptation of bursting through a window and perfectly lining up three kill shots.

    The Hong Kong Massacre isn't as interesting as it looked, unfortunately. While gameplay is intense and challenging, the scenario fails to drive us through those very repetitive sequences.

    Unless you played Hotline Miami and wished it featured more people shooting you dead from offscreen where you couldn’t even see them, you’re better off passing on The Hong Kong Massacre, because style is really all this game has to offer.

    Hong Kong Massacre is a competent and well-presented twin stick John Woo 'em up but is hamstrung by a lack of variety and some frustrating gameplay elements.

    The Hong Kong Massacre exists to let you strategically gun down armies of bad guys and look cool while doing it. What it lacks in originality it more than makes up for in stylishly bloody good times.

    Overall, The Hong Kong Massacre is a treat. Yes, the game is one-note, focusing entirely on the gunplay. But it’s a really good note! The game is simple, but effective. What it lacks in narrative weight and variability, it makes up for with atmosphere and style. It’s a maddening game, one I can’t wait to play again.

You kill with one bullet and got killed by one single gun shot. You can upgrade your guns which helps you to get a better rating for previous levels, so you can upgrade them even more. Level design is really nice, you have multiple options to master it and the music always drives you to new heights.

    An unique shooter experience but prepare to die. Often. Very often.

    Story is pretty much non-existing and hit detection of the shotgun sometimes a pain in the ... I had to lower the score from 9 to 7.    … Full Review »

The trophies involve being able to beat this game without using these mechanics which seems almost impossible.

Hotline Miami is indeed a masterpiece andThere's no need for this game to be as good as Hotline Miami. It's a great addition to the genre. Hotline Miami is indeed a masterpiece and has a depth that The Hong Kong Massacre lacks. But it is a great game nonetheless. The slow motion is a great gimmick that almost kills the gameplay. Once you get the hang of it the game gets too easy. So much that the middle part of the game feels repetitive. Only in the last part of the game the difficulty increases (the number of enemies and the challenging angles you need to use to kill them) and the fun is back. You lack the visibility you have in Hotline Miami, since you cannot move the map around you at all and the environment can be confusing at times but I guess it was intended this way as part of the difficulty. All in all a great game.… Full Review »
