Despite the new pixelated graphics, the graphics are BETTER. The soundtrack is amazing, it makes you tingle with horror and excitement at the same time. The controls (although mouse was not implemented) are flawless everything responds exemplary. The content ... well the content is ... I have no words for it ... other than godlike in every aspect.

Crap-loads of new items (it will probably be weeks before you can memorize what they all do) with brilliant interactions and new mechanics, each game plays differently ... and when I say differently I mean it almost feels like it's another game entirely.

Support the developers and buy this game! This is too good ... you will be playing and enjoying it a lot more that whatever else 15$ or your local equivalent can buy. I guarantee it.

This game is phenomenal! It is a breath of fresh air. In a vast pool of games that hold your hand to ensure you win, this game throws you in there with little to no instruction or explanation of the various upgrades you can get. This game feels like an old Zelda title mixed with Smash TV. The randomly generated levels keep it fresh, and as you play more and more runs you unlock more and more stuff such as items, upgrades, and bosses. I'm still seeing new things in this game, and I'm closing in on my 100th run!

The only reason it lost one point is because of the grotesque backdrop, but the reality is that I got used to all the poop trying to kill me (literally, poop). This game definitely has a dark, twisted side to it.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, and I'm not by any means degrading the negative reviews. This game won't be for everyone. The only reviews I will address are those comparing this to a story driven game such as The Last of Us. If you're looking for a compelling story, you are definitely in the wrong place.

I was a bit disappointed by the coop mode, as the 2nd player cannot choose his character, cannot pickup items or cash and have less health than first player. Otherwise I have nothing negative to say. The game is very challenging, the rooms are randomly generated, there are plenty of original items, secret rooms, great boss battles, tremendous replayability... and it's just very, very fun.

PS4 owners who are fans of "roguelite" games CANNOT MISS THIS ONE. The game is challenging, addicting, kinda gross, varied, and stupid fun. I actually prefer the old art style from the PC version, but there are unlockable filters if you decide you don't like the new visuals. Anyway, if you are a fan of these types of games, BOI:R is perfect.

The Binding of Issac is one of the only rouge-like games I actually enjoy (FTL and Rouge Legacy are the others). It's been a while since I played a game when it can be beaten in under an hour; it reminds me of the 3rd Generation days of gaming.

The game has been improved in virtually every way. After perusing some of the reviews, many of them are positive with the exception of the soundtrack. While I really enjoyed Danny B's original track, I absolutely LOVE Rediculon's. Although it's not as catchy, the new track does a far better job of setting the mood(mostly despair) that should be felt on each floor.

The frame rate is near-perfect, which was a gripe of mine with the original. Because of this, the game feels smooth, and I notice that I'm much better at playing this version than the original.

I don't think the game is easier (as some have suggested) per se. It is definitely more balanced. some of the items are unlocked differently than they were in the original. There is a heart container cap now. The rooms seem much more fair now, although there are a few that I still cringe at whenever I enter them.
Some of the new characters are a blast to play, and some have had some tweaks to them.

The controls took me a little getting used to after playing the original on PC with a keyboard for so long. I actually think it's very functional and controls just as well, if not better than with a keyboard.

I really enjoy the new shop donation mechanic and it really opens up more opportunities.

I honestly can't really think of anything negative to say about this title. I can understand that it definitely isn't everyone's cup of tea. It's difficult, however I never blamed the game like I have some rogue-likes.

This is steered more towards those who haven't tried the original:
If poop, gore, or religious fun-poling aren't your thing, you probably won't like it.

If you're a fan of the original, this is a no-brainer.

    Exceptionally solid title 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game brought me happily into the world of roguelikes. Let me rephrase: Binding of Isaac did, this is an expanded version. This game doesn't boast an entirely new game. The game's creator was very vocal about Flash limitations, and this game has been given the creative space and development capability that the creator wanted all along. Along with over 400 items, different endings, a number of different playable characters, and secrets that are worth trying crazy things to find make this game a blast through-and-through.

Imagine The Legend of Zelda, but take out the world map, and you complete dungeon after dungeon. This is the core gameplay of BoIR. You may see the term roguelike a lot in reviews, and this solidifies the game. Pickups, enemy drops, and each level is entirely random. Some games you'll die in the second room, others will leave you playing hard to the final boss. You will find the game unforgiving and death is permanent, though your unlocks are not. If you die, you start back over on a new run. Death is unforgiving, but each run is typically no longer than an hour at the absolute most.

The graphics continue the style of BOI allowing a filter to keep it foggy and pixelated or clear and sharp, depending on your liking. The environment isn't as engaging as BoI, but it is appropriate to the game. It is a dark game, fighting demons, angels, spewing blood, and destroying piles of dung. Definitely not your average game, but still very much the style that BoI players have come to love.

I have both the PC and PS4 version, though I haven't noticed any differences except that the controller makes the game slightly more difficult. I have begun opting for using X, O, Square, Triangle for shooting rather than both sticks. With some item synergies, you may find that tapping to shoot is easier, but tiring, and forget about swinging the stick to shoot in those situations. This game is mostly enjoyed on a keyboard, in my opinion.

Beyond that, Rebirth took some great steps in terms of item synergies. In the old game, you often found yourself overlapping items rendering them useless, but this does a much better job of incorporating different bonuses to Isaac. A welcome touch.

This game can be replayed over and over, and should be, for alternate endings, new items, and a host of players with different pros and cons (Cain being my favorite). The new co-op option is small but welcome, allowing new players to be recruited at the cost of a heart, and though they can fly, Player 1 is still in complete control of the game. This could be helped out by a few different tweaks, but it is still fun to throw your buddy a controller and play through. There were some glitches with this, players disappearing but still able to shoot and live, but other than that, I have had great playthroughs with almost no hiccups, though I have noticed some graphics stuttering from time to time, but that seemed more attributed to behind-the-scenes. It did not seem like this was due to screen clutter or bullet hell and I found the game very smooth overall.

Replayability is the best thing that BoIR has going for it. Death is permanent but short, and picking up again is always beneficial. Many items are unlocked by what seems to be external counters, spending x amount at slot machines or blood banks, so even if you can't see unlock counters, you are always benefitting from a playthrough. There is also a great new mechanic in the form of a playable character with completely random, but balanced, starting loadouts and stats, but you can only play as this character for each time you beat the game. Though I'm not sure the exact benefits of this, I know that it will unlock some cool features.

This game is great, addicting, and simple-but-fun. Without the need for connectivity, this is a great fallback game when your internet is down or when you just want to play a good old-fashioned side-scroller. I have a blast playing every time.

As for the playstation version, it plays like a twin-stick shooter, but you can use the DPad and the shape buttons to move and shoot, and it feels quite nice, actually. The game is a rogue-like game, meaning that if you die, you lose everything and it gets more tense the deeper you go. you go from fighting a piece of poop to fighting Satan himself. As mentioned before, there's a lot of new items. some of these items has cool effects, while others are just a simple stat up. There's a total of 9 characters, two of which are revealed later on. you start out with the main protagonist, Isaac, running from room to room, filled with enemies, spikes, rocks and pits. On the way, you unlock more and more of the game, for example, getting 55 cents will unlock Cain. The game is really hard, so it takes a lot of practice to even kill the first* final boss (*there's more final bosses to come by), and it feels so rewarding to finally beat the game, all those moments where you nearly die and be so lucky that your enemy died from the bomb that you placed down. If i where to recommend this, give it like three runs and see if you like it. it is worth your time and money. Expand

The graphics are polished up (albeit in stylized 16bit form), and the move away from flash seems to have solved some of the rare game disrupting issues of the original.
