I've not played tekken since tekken 3. I've enjoyed watching videos of the game so i decided to try it. The gameplay is amazing. I wanted to return the game as soon as i got it because i didn't understand anything, but the time i learned a single combo (Which is nothing in this game, NOTHING, it's the bare minimum to not be destroyed by the cpu on medium) i was hooked and became one of my favourite fighting games.
So, core gameplay: 10. Characters... i like a lot of them, usually i get 3-4 characters i like, but here i like half the cast so it's quite a lot to enjoy
-Story mode is... passable... to be honest 80% of it doesn't go anywhere... but there're some epic moments... to me, while those moments were great, the rest of the story was as meh as it could be.
-Treasure battle is fun, you fight, you unlock things for customization... it's a nice way to make you play offline while you learn the game, keeps the things moving.
-Customization is weird. You can make your own character, and tweak every color... but 80% of the costumes are shared between all the cast, and 90% of them are "weird". You may want to make a serious character but 90% of the items you can add to his back are giant pizzas, giant sushis, teddybears, etc... I've ended up customizing a little but it's not that good if you don't enjoy weird stuff
    - Online (PS4): it's bad... i'm from Argentina, south america, and more than a month since the game was released, i've not reached 30 online battles. The matchmaking takes up to an hour to find a match (while every other fighting game i play finds someone in a few minutes, so it's not a problem of my connection being bad, it's about where i am and that defines that the game is dead online.
    - tournament mode online won't work because if the creator of the tournament leaves, the tournament is closed, so basically, if he-she loses, he leaves because he doesnt want to wait and you get screwed and lose the prizes.

So for me its one if not the more enjoyable fighting game nowadays but if you're on ps4 and south america online has been dead since arrival and even after 2 patches, things haven't changed.
Story is good enough but offline content is lacking. treasure battle helps but to a point

Biggest POS for too many reasons.

Full review at my Steam account: MaStUrBaTiNgWoOkIeE.

Game is trash and developers lack creativity and talent. Just another modern day cash grab.

Josie is the only new character with any classic feel but the game's too radically imbalanced anyway.

Tekken 7 is the best of the series to date, but more of the same. The "who-can-get-their-super-move-off-first" gameplay leaves much to be desired from a serious fighting game player. Like the prequels, Tekken 7 is geared towards casual gamers... and towards those who are amused by bears whom walk upright, wear human cloths, and don't do anything besides kick the crap out of each other.Tekken 7 is the best of the series to date, but more of the same. Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, Dragonball and NRS games have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

Everything is fine but the on line mode is garbage. Many connection fails to the opponents that make the wait too long until it finally works. It is really frustrating and the money I paid for the game is not worth it.

The Majority of this game is great, there is just one thing that the game has that is rendering it on ps4 it's the load times. the load times are so terrible that it gets a 0 if there a patch reducing this and taking the player out of combat then i would give it a 10.

If you are like me and have begun to grow bored with the onslaught of 2.5D fighters; Tekken 7 is you go to buy for the year, and then some (until perhaps Soul Calibur 6).

Tekken has been around us for years, but in the last 10-15 years there has been a distinct line put in the sand on where the player falls in fighters. The rise of MLG is the most dominate reason for this but even amongst the broader base gamers tend to fall on one side or the other. Personally, after the last few years of Street Fighter I found Tekken 7 refreshing to play.

Combat in Tekken "feels" more like actual combat. The stalking of your opponent, squaring your fighters weight to accommodate the oncoming attack, learning the tells each combatant has, stringing attack combos like a natural form of martial art would teach (left to right, using your weight to carry each attack through, learning to defend side to side etc...) There is of course a number of absurd abilities thrown in since this is a fighting game and not a Martial Art Simulator, but the balance between the real and the absurd is good.

The story mode is bonkers, but I didn't expect much here, as is the character customizer. Nothing says Badass fighter than wearing a Ukulele strapped to your back, a foam finger on one hand, a poodle hat and clown shoes.

Graphics are standard which is good. I didn't find any slow down or delay in offline mode and near to none online (though I will chalk that up to my end of the agreement). The soundtrack is stellar as is the combat voice acting. The story mode voice acting? Well any American-English lines are cringy (i'm looking at you Nina!) though having characters converse in their native tongue was a nice touch, Hearing Claudio reply in Italian vs. translating him to Japanese was nice, but jarring when you have three characters on screen speaking three languages in reply to each other, which begs the question....why not just settle on one language? Or are we supposed to believe everyone in the Tekken universe is a polyglot?

My one only negative I found with the game was in the combat that I like....but feel as if there's this invisible ball between each fighter. After an exchange combat kind of "resets" to this nebulous start point, which puts each player right outside striking distance. It forces each fighter to either dash/close the distance or back away, playing cat and mouse with their opponent. I am the type of player that like to fight inside and the fact it resets to outside striking distance in a 2D space infuriates me. I would rather keep the pressure on at all times in all 3 dimensions than moving back into a starting point for the next exchange. That might be the 2.5 D fighter in me, but it still irks me here.

Still, Tekken 7 has a ton going for it and while this review is super late, It may entire someone to try it out; especially since the game has been marked down a smidge for the holidays. Pick it up and get into the groove of a new/old kind of fighter.

    DLC
Seriously, paying 5$ for a lot of characters even historical characters (characters presnet in all the 6 other episodes). What a robbery.

    Characters
The new characters in this sequel have no real interest

    Stages
The stages are now all small in order to make f**king air combos longer. What a crap. So the guy who starts the air combo at first is winning, the only strategy is winning, even the Counter Attacks and Chickens Attack are not used anymore at high level. Wath the competition videos and you'll see how poor this game has become

First of all, let me tell you, this game is not really targeted to casual players who just want to play story mode and Arcade mode. Second of all, there is no tutorial for new players and all you get is text in the loading screen, that explains some movement/defensive options.
The story mode is one of the better examples in the fighting game genre but it still takes only about 2-3 Hours to beat. There are also side Stories for Characters that are not involved in the main Story but those are just one fight long, which is really disappointing.
The Arcade Mode is also not that long. 8-9 minutes for each Character and nothing really surprising. And then there is Training mode, which is a really great tool to learn characters and match-ups but then again....no tutorial on how to use it or how to use it efficiently.
Then there is Treasure-Battle, a mode where you can fight the CPU for customisation Items for all the Characters on the roster and increasing your Offline rank. And yes, there is an Offline rank for Arcade-Mode (limited) and Treasure-Mode (unlimited).

Online is where I think Tekken 7s strong site is. Online you can choose between Tournament Mode, Ranked Match and Casual Matches. You will always find matches equaling your Skill and it can get you hooked for hours. I had great fun playing online and also met some people.

Visually Tekken 7 looks really awesome! The Fights feel so good and these slow-motion moments creating such a hype online and offline. Each hit gives you a setisfiing feeling that you want to achieve a hit again.

Overall I like Tekken 7 but I don´t think it´s for beginners. Bandai said its accessible more then ever but I don´t see accessibility when there is no tutorial. If you want to have fun with Tekken you need to learn a lot of things and playing against the CPU is not going to justify a full price buy.
My Advise: If you are a person that is confident about your fighting game skill and look for a challenge, buy it! But if you are new and want just to beat the story or mash some buttons against the CPU wait for at least half the price or even less.
One more, if you are new and want to get good at Tekken give it time and hit up forums or youtube. Tekken has a very welcoming community and a lot of veteran players target their stream or video content towards new players!

I just couldn't get into the flow of the game. I felt I was just being juggled by the enemy constantly and couldn't break out of it. Obviously, I'm just crap. But I'm an experienced gamer and platinum many games. 2D fighters like Injustice and Mortal Kombat have much more in-depth tutorials and explanations built into the game. I can see some people loving this. But it just wasn't for me. And the Rage Art thing is crap - you can perform a special powerful move when you hit below 20% energy, effectively rewarding you for losing and arbitrarily trying to make it a close fight. Injustice is better because you build up the bar by actually winning and can then use the bar in different ways. Expand

I don’t see myself playing this game on a regular basis but if I were to get into a 3D Fighting game, this would be it. Adding Akuma such a smart decision because it helps bridge the gap between 2D Fighting game players and 3D Fighting Game players. I can’t fathom how they did it but doing the traditional 2D Fighting Game inputs doesn’t feel awkward nor does it look out of place. He just works so well in that game.

One of my favorite gameplay mechanics is the slow motion kill cam. It doesn’t happen often but basically what triggers it is if both players are low on health and they both push a button at the same time. If those criteria are met then the game slows down, zooms in and you watch the animation of the two attacks. It’s so exciting because it just ramps up the hype.

So to wrap things up, this is probably the best 3D Fighting Game of all time, it’s exciting and hype, it has a perfect character to help bridge the gap between 2D and 3D and finally its the best looking Fighting Game of the year. Fighting games are niche market but if you’re a fan of the genre then this is a must buy.

They ruined Tekken. I guess they wanted to make it more like Street Fighter, but to me the best part of Tekken was NOT being like SF. The new flashy animations and particle effects add nothing, in fact they're just distracting and disorienting. The less said about the money-grubbing microtransactions just to get characters that should have been included in the base game, the better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been a fan of this franchise since the first one. The character rooster seems way too heavily focused on milking money off of other franchises and not enough thought or ideas into the rooster. This game is way too heavily focused on the E-Sport side of the game than the majority of the fan base. the game lacks solo player minigames and every character feels the same now since they tweak everything in the game for competitive online play. The rooster is just random characters from other games and movies and based on racal professency. Where is the playable devil Kazya or playable boss characters we used to get in these fighting games that made the game fun for the solo players? No where because games are to focused on esports and youtubers to care about the true fan base by milking money out everything without any thought or good idea into the game. Sorry for those that like this game but the game is a big step back for me. The story was completely ruined by containing non-tekken characters in the canon story. Expand

Tekken 7 is very much Tekken, exactly like you've always known it. Luckily the game knows how to get maximum gain out of seemingly minimal additions, like the flashy Rage Arts, tactical Power Crushes and surprisingly spectacular presence of Street Fighter icon Akuma. But due to the pretentious and disappointing single-player content it will never be a classic.
