I’ve had this game for about 2 years now. I spontaneously bought it because I wanted a fighting game and it just so happened Tekken was on sale. Story mode is mediocre, I only beat it for trophies. Arcade battle is probably the most disappointing. Treasure battle is actually a great way to get better and can be pretty fun, but outside of that, that’s really the only thing I can say for offline. The game also severely lacks a tutorial mode. This is my first Tekken game , and if it wasn’t for YouTube, I probably would’ve gave up on it. That said, if you take the time to learn, this game is seriously addicting, even w the occasional lag, but that can be dependent on your connection. It’s very fast paced, and can be quite heart racing. Today, I’m still only in orange ranks, but I have a blast playing everytime. Combos are very rewarding to learn, as well as parties and defense mechanisms. Overall, if you’re looking for a fighting game to to seriously sink your teeth into competivitly, I would strongly recommend Tekken 8. PS: anybody complaining about DLC, you’re probably just just too broke to buy it in the first place., Expand

    Beautiful but disapointing.

    DLC
Seriously, paying 5$ for a lot of characters even historical characters (characters presnet in all the 6 other episodes). What a robbery.

    Characters
The new characters in this sequel have no real interest

    Stages
The stages are now all small in order to make f**king air combos longer. What a crap. So the guy who starts the air combo at first is winning, the only strategy is winning, even the Counter Attacks and Chickens Attack are not used anymore at high level. Wath the competition videos and you'll see how poor this game has become

I'm not sure if the collective standards have lowered or what, because this is nowhere near the best 3D fighter, let alone the best Tekken game that people proclaim it to be. While the combos aren't the juggle fest they used to be, they still are heavily emphasized to the point where the neutral feels lacking when compared to games like Virtua Fighter or Dead or Alive, or even past Tekken games. The movement is nice, but that's standard 3D fighter fare for one that is competently made, and while this one is okay and there is some fun to be had in the online competitive modes, the game seems simpler from fighters past, and the whole games environment and ecosystem it has built around it is too e-sports. Plus with the advent of super arts in Tekken, the classic 3D fighting feel is just a shadow of what it once was. Netcode is subpar. Tekken 6's was better, albeit Tekken 6 being a worse installment to the series as a whole .

Wasn't there also a promise that legacy characters would be free? Why are Lei Wulong and Marduk $5.99? That's just stupid and walking back on your word...

This game is the perfect example of how people will play the latest game in a franchise in droves, without regard for the quality of the product, and that will ultimately lead to a decline in quality of fighting games as it has for the last few years.

After all the stupid things you've had to fight in Tekken over the 20 years of the series, it all just comes down to father and son duking it out yet again. Then it becomes like Super Smash Bros. with just about everybody joining the King of Iron Fist Tournament. Hard to see Dead or Alive 6 being better then this next year.

The lack of depth and subtlety and the emphasis on the offensive, rather than the defensive, puts this squarely two notches below the best in the genre, the "who-can-get-their-super-move-off-first" gameplay leaves much to be desired from a serious fighting game player. Like the prequels, Tekken 7 is geared towards casual gamers and anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, DoA and MK games have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

It suffered from the same flaws that Street Fighter 5 had.

-The story mode is WAY too short. The Character Episodes are just a waste of time as they just unlock trophies and the endings are disappointing. There should have been a separate Story Mode for all the fighters.
-I will never play Online mode because of Sony wanting my money to just be able to play online.
-Lack of beloved Offline modes such as Team Battle, Time Attack, Survival and Ghost Battle. Arcade Mode is TOO short with only 5 battles. That is just pathetic compared to Tekken 6 which gave you 6 battles and Tag Tournament 2 which gave you 10 battles. Treasure mode is exactly like Ghost Battle in which you can earn prizes and money and do as many battles as you want until you get knocked out. it gets very boring very quickly and the items are not great for customization. You also get VS Battle and Practice.
    - The roster for the game is really poor. Only 35 fighters. They should have brought back more if not all the beloved fighters back like they did in Tekken 6 and Tag Tournament 2 apart from the ones that were in this game. Three of the new characters are essentially copies of Bruce Irvin, Christie Montiero and Craig Marduk who should been brought back. The other fighters are not even interesting.
    - I don't like the new mechanics at all.
    - Microtransactions for Eliza from Tekken Revolution, Geese Howard, Noctis or the whole First Season Pass and now the Second Series Season Pass which just came out over a week ago. This is something I thought would never see be done to this franchise as Katshuiro Harada the producer and director of the Tekken series HATES this idea and always believes that the full game should be on the disc.
    - The soundtrack is poor like Tekken Revolution and Tag Tournament 2 which came before this.

The only things that are good about the game are the amazing graphics, the improved customizations, the superb sound, the gameplay returning to traditional Tekken gameplay like Tekken 5 and Dark Resurrection, the gallery which allows you to buy and watch Tekken 1-7 endings and concept art and the jukebox feature which allows you to change the games soundtrack to the classic Tekken 1-7 soundtrack for the stages and modes in the game.

I still find this game very addictive to play from time to time.

If you are a big fan of the Tekken series, do not buy this game. Go and buy the old Tekken games.

I don’t see myself playing this game on a regular basis but if I were to get into a 3D Fighting game, this would be it. Adding Akuma such a smart decision because it helps bridge the gap between 2D Fighting game players and 3D Fighting Game players. I can’t fathom how they did it but doing the traditional 2D Fighting Game inputs doesn’t feel awkward nor does it look out of place. He just works so well in that game.

One of my favorite gameplay mechanics is the slow motion kill cam. It doesn’t happen often but basically what triggers it is if both players are low on health and they both push a button at the same time. If those criteria are met then the game slows down, zooms in and you watch the animation of the two attacks. It’s so exciting because it just ramps up the hype.

So to wrap things up, this is probably the best 3D Fighting Game of all time, it’s exciting and hype, it has a perfect character to help bridge the gap between 2D and 3D and finally its the best looking Fighting Game of the year. Fighting games are niche market but if you’re a fan of the genre then this is a must buy.

The fighting itself is great as always. In offline modes it is always perfect but online can be problematic with lost connections and a bit of lag outweighing actual fights by 10-1.

The modes and story are weak, very weak. The story mode is a short mess. I wanted to get Paul Phoenix to super punch the narrator all the way through. The extra fighter stories are one fight and a little ending after it which are ok but add nothing to the story and you will not want to fight to go back to them again. Arcade mode is very dissapointing. The only mode where I try all fighters to see each ending. There are no endings so I have used this only once and will never go back to it, whats the point? Treasure Battles become a tedious grind. Even after grinding like hell I have not got the yellow jump suit or any decent unlocks. Maybe a twig to put on someones head after 200 fights is a joke.

To sum up stripping the game of extra modes like tekken force or bowling to add as paid DLC is blatant thievery. The poor story and arcade modes and no survival mode is a joke. Removing two of my all time fave fighters Baek and Lei and many many others is unacceptable. Who does not like a Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan grudge match with your mates? All of this along with poor online connections has prevented this game becoming the best in the series.

    Updated.
Season 1. Seaon one is hands down the worst season pass I ever bought. Tekken bowl was included before free so is there going to be online? No. Can you play more than 2 people? No. Poor effort. 2 guest fighters also came with season one. First was Geese. Geese was a bit of nostalgia trip bit I soon bored of him like Akuma. 2d fighters dont seem great in Tekken IMO. The second fighter Noctis from Final Fantasy XV is so annoying Id rather pick Lucky Chloe.

Season 2 is coming with Negan, worst character in the TWD series. Could be up there in the annoying stakes with Noctis and Lucky Chloe. And there will also be some badly missed fighters added like Anna and Lei. Harada said any returning fighters would not be paid dlc. For this reason along with the worst season pass I ever bought and poor full release I will never buy another Tekken game again. I lost many years playing the great Tekken it saddens me that this tripe is all Namco and Harada can offer now.

First of all, playing on a standard PS4, I was a bit disappointed that the game didn't run at 1080p. Everything look blurry compared to every other fighting game on the system. I would say it feels like I'm playing on a PS3, but I just played Soul Caliber V at 720p on a PS3 and it looked sharper than Tekken 7 on PS4 (due to it outputting a native 720p image vs Tekken's upscaled 1080p image).

I got used to the blurriness and didn't notice it much during fights, so it's not that bad.

Story mode wasn't as good as I was expecting. The main story covers only about 5 of the characters, and isn't very interesting. I remember the story in one of the Tekken Tag Tournament games (forgot which one) was more interesting and involving than this.

As for the other characters, you get only a couple of paragraphs each for them and a single fight. This is as close to "no story at all" as you can get.

And to top off story mode, most of the non-Japanese voice acting is bad. I've gotten used to being able to switch to Japanese in other fighting games so I wouldn't have to deal with horrible English voice acting. There's no option here since everyone speaks their native language. Besides that, it is a little weird that everyone partakes in multi-language conversations.

As for unlockables, there's a large number of player-specific health bar/menu skins which are useless unless you play online. There's a small number of unlockable costumes and costume pieces. Compared to Soul Caliber V, the costume pieces are higher quality and fit the characters better, but there's much less variety. There's also extras videos from the previous games that you can pay in-game money to unlock. These are sort of useless since I can watch them on youtube or by playing the previous games.

As for how to unlock things, you can either play online or play treasure battles. The treasure battles are just regular fights that go on forever. Each time you win, you get a random item, most of which are not primary costume pieces. It's not that fun and I wish there was some sort of unlock progression or grid where you can choose which direction to go with what you want to unlock.

So yeah, no skill challenges, no mini games that involve fighting, nor other interesting things that make single-player play more fun. Fighting continuous battles or online play is all you get.

Extras are bare too. No battle recorder, no commentary, no figures (like in Guilty Gear), no good photo mode/poser, nor anything else that you might be able to sink your time into without going online.

I hope this trend of no-single-player content doesn't continue. Well, I've always got DOA and Guilty Gear. But it might only be a matter of time before they strip away all of their content and revert to being bare-bones fighting games too.

Everything is fine but the on line mode is garbage. Many connection fails to the opponents that make the wait too long until it finally works. It is really frustrating and the money I paid for the game is not worth it.

Tekken 7 is the best of the series to date, but more of the same. The "who-can-get-their-super-move-off-first" gameplay leaves much to be desired from a serious fighting game player. Like the prequels, Tekken 7 is geared towards casual gamers... and towards those who are amused by bears whom walk upright, wear human cloths, and don't do anything besides kick the crap out of each other.Tekken 7 is the best of the series to date, but more of the same. Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, Dragonball and NRS games have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken.

I'm not going to give any spoilers for the story mode because I'd actually suggest playing through it yourself if not just for the over the top story. Even though the campaign has this very poorly voice acted sections narrated by a character that's honestly not very well integrated into the story. The events that take place, as well as some final character development for Heihachi, are all worth going through those dreadfully boring sections that I ended up skipping past throughout a majority of the campaign. You also get side stories that happen alongside the main plot and cover every playable character, having two possible outcomes for most of the altercations. Even DLC characters such as Eliza and Geese Howard are fun to play and balanced, making it so that you don't have to hand over extra money to get the newest playable character to do well. I'm looking forward to the future Noctis DLC as well, as I've been enjoying FFXV quite a bit.

My favorite part of the game, and where I spend about a quarter of my time playing it, is the character customization that allows you to create new outfits for every character. Some, like Panda and Kuma, are limited in their customizability, but a majority of the characters can be made to look as ridiculous, sexy, or badass as you want them to be. it allows for me replayability and, like Soul Calibur's IV and V, this is the section that keeps me coming back.

My only complaint is that the online is a mess. In most other games like this, that would be a detriment, but there's enough to do in the singleplayer and local multiplayer that it doesn't bother me too much.

Due to the lowered price of the game, I'd suggest picking up a copy from your local game store.

Namco moved to Unreal Engine 4 which allowed better visuals and the spectacular Rage Art moves which has been introduced in Tekken for the first time. But i feel that the characters could have a better outlook. The hair looks very unreal and something about the characters gives the feel that they are not planned out well ( -1 point).

Apart from that, it is still one of the best fighting games. So if you are thinking about it and are a fan of the Tekken franchise, go for it!!!

First of all, let me tell you, this game is not really targeted to casual players who just want to play story mode and Arcade mode. Second of all, there is no tutorial for new players and all you get is text in the loading screen, that explains some movement/defensive options.
The story mode is one of the better examples in the fighting game genre but it still takes only about 2-3 Hours to beat. There are also side Stories for Characters that are not involved in the main Story but those are just one fight long, which is really disappointing.
The Arcade Mode is also not that long. 8-9 minutes for each Character and nothing really surprising. And then there is Training mode, which is a really great tool to learn characters and match-ups but then again....no tutorial on how to use it or how to use it efficiently.
Then there is Treasure-Battle, a mode where you can fight the CPU for customisation Items for all the Characters on the roster and increasing your Offline rank. And yes, there is an Offline rank for Arcade-Mode (limited) and Treasure-Mode (unlimited).

Online is where I think Tekken 7s strong site is. Online you can choose between Tournament Mode, Ranked Match and Casual Matches. You will always find matches equaling your Skill and it can get you hooked for hours. I had great fun playing online and also met some people.

Visually Tekken 7 looks really awesome! The Fights feel so good and these slow-motion moments creating such a hype online and offline. Each hit gives you a setisfiing feeling that you want to achieve a hit again.

Overall I like Tekken 7 but I don´t think it´s for beginners. Bandai said its accessible more then ever but I don´t see accessibility when there is no tutorial. If you want to have fun with Tekken you need to learn a lot of things and playing against the CPU is not going to justify a full price buy.
My Advise: If you are a person that is confident about your fighting game skill and look for a challenge, buy it! But if you are new and want just to beat the story or mash some buttons against the CPU wait for at least half the price or even less.
One more, if you are new and want to get good at Tekken give it time and hit up forums or youtube. Tekken has a very welcoming community and a lot of veteran players target their stream or video content towards new players!

If you are like me and have begun to grow bored with the onslaught of 2.5D fighters; Tekken 7 is you go to buy for the year, and then some (until perhaps Soul Calibur 6).

Tekken has been around us for years, but in the last 10-15 years there has been a distinct line put in the sand on where the player falls in fighters. The rise of MLG is the most dominate reason for this but even amongst the broader base gamers tend to fall on one side or the other. Personally, after the last few years of Street Fighter I found Tekken 7 refreshing to play.

Combat in Tekken "feels" more like actual combat. The stalking of your opponent, squaring your fighters weight to accommodate the oncoming attack, learning the tells each combatant has, stringing attack combos like a natural form of martial art would teach (left to right, using your weight to carry each attack through, learning to defend side to side etc...) There is of course a number of absurd abilities thrown in since this is a fighting game and not a Martial Art Simulator, but the balance between the real and the absurd is good.

The story mode is bonkers, but I didn't expect much here, as is the character customizer. Nothing says Badass fighter than wearing a Ukulele strapped to your back, a foam finger on one hand, a poodle hat and clown shoes.

Graphics are standard which is good. I didn't find any slow down or delay in offline mode and near to none online (though I will chalk that up to my end of the agreement). The soundtrack is stellar as is the combat voice acting. The story mode voice acting? Well any American-English lines are cringy (i'm looking at you Nina!) though having characters converse in their native tongue was a nice touch, Hearing Claudio reply in Italian vs. translating him to Japanese was nice, but jarring when you have three characters on screen speaking three languages in reply to each other, which begs the question....why not just settle on one language? Or are we supposed to believe everyone in the Tekken universe is a polyglot?

My one only negative I found with the game was in the combat that I like....but feel as if there's this invisible ball between each fighter. After an exchange combat kind of "resets" to this nebulous start point, which puts each player right outside striking distance. It forces each fighter to either dash/close the distance or back away, playing cat and mouse with their opponent. I am the type of player that like to fight inside and the fact it resets to outside striking distance in a 2D space infuriates me. I would rather keep the pressure on at all times in all 3 dimensions than moving back into a starting point for the next exchange. That might be the 2.5 D fighter in me, but it still irks me here.

Still, Tekken 7 has a ton going for it and while this review is super late, It may entire someone to try it out; especially since the game has been marked down a smidge for the holidays. Pick it up and get into the groove of a new/old kind of fighter.

Tekken 6 was the first game on the PS3, and the best. It had a giant roster of characters but more importantly it had a story mode, based on the Tekken Force introduced in Tekken 3 and 4. Now for the most part many fans didn't like this "Streets Of Rage" style scrolling beat-em-up mode, but that's ok, if you didn't like the mode you didn't have to play it. The mode was great because it was in effect two games in mode, Tekken 1 on 1 and Tekken scrolling beat-em-up. The game even had online coop mode. A first or a tekken game. Sure the newer releases have ever so slightly better graphics and more characters, however in TTT2 the scrolling beat-em-up mode was missing, it felt like a large chunk of the game had been removed, and it had annoying gimmicky features such as wall and bounce damage, there was also no online coop (obviously) but at least it had 2 on 2 combat which wasn't in Tekken 6, something new. And now we come to Tekken 7, it has different gimmicky features to TTT2 which aren't necessary, but now we have two key features missing, no tag team mode and no scrolling beat-em-up mode, going back to a game with only 1 and 1, and with a severely reduced roster of characters. Somehow the game feels very threadbare in comparison. I'm all for making the game better but taking away features that were awesome and considered new features in previous Tekken games, it's sad indeed. Tekken 7 is a great game, but TTT2 and especially Tekken 6 are better. Tekken 7 has less content than previous Tekken games making it an inferior product. That's not just my opinion, it's an actual fact. Expand

I know many were disappointed with the slight lack in content compared to previous games, but honestly the only thinks missing were modes that nobody used anyways. I can't remember a single time I or anyone else played Survival more than once, or Tekken Force again after beating it 2 or 3 times. I'm mainly into fighting games for the gameplay anyways and how competitive they can get. This is by far one of the smoothest and most balanced entries in the franchise yet. I can see attacks when they come and counter precisely. Taking hits never felt like anyone's fault but my own.

The lack of content I mentioned beforehand didn't personally reduce my enjoyment of the game, but even if it did, the problem is fixed now. The Tekken Bowl update added a new mode, but was a tad bit pricey. Though there have also been tons of updates with free content including customizations pieces so it balances out nicely. With DLC planned all the way through Spring of next year, I'm excited to see what they've got planned. We already have 2 guest characters with their own stages confirmed. One of them has already been revealed to be Geese Howard with his tower stage. With how Namco treated Akuma better than his own game did, I'm certain Geese will make for a fantastic guest character.

The story mode did leave a bit to be desired though. The gameplay was fantastic, and I enjoyed the story-exclusive gimmicks, don't get me wrong. But the plot itself wasn't all that great. They only half-way concluded the Mishima Saga and left several questions lazily answered or not answered at all. Don't even get me started on the character episodes. It definitely has its downsides, but if they aren't enough to lower the high I have on this game, then it's still a 10 in my eyes.

Unfortunately, Tekken 7 loses a point for the terrible online service and the dumb decision to not penalize people who leave a game in ranked play (thus denying you a win, another dumb design choice) and another point for the lack of any relevant singleplayer content. At the age where fighters bring no content at all, Tekken brought a great Story Mode, Arcade, Treasure Battle (a new version of Ghost Battle but even more addictive), a solid Practice Mode that gives you a bunch of possibilities for trainning, a Customization Mode that lacks some things compared to the previous games but is still decent and 37 characters to choose from (with more to come, and for the joy of veterans it was stated that missing Legacy Characters will come for free). The online gameplay gives you Ranked, Player Match (where you can play just for fun without affecting your rank position), Tournnament Mode (this is new) and you can create Online Sessions as always. Judging the whole package I would give a 8,5 out of 10 having Tekken 3 and Tekken 5 in comparison, but it's impossible to not give 10 because this is the fighter that I can see a better future. Bandai Namco and Harada (the director of the franchise) confirmed they are gonna give support to increase the game's lifetime with more content and whatever fixes it needs. So even if you are a long time Tekken player like me and get a little bit disappointed with offline content, you must have in mind that this game was made to keep going for at least 6 years and to keep it fresh, things will come slowly but surely. This is new to franchise and was exactly what Tekken 6 needed but didn't have (hence the game died within it's third year), so be cool and patient cause things will get better and better in the right time. Beautiful graphics, cool stages, new default costumes for everybody, new moves, and the inclusion of new mechanics like Rage Drives, Rage Arts, PowerCrushes and real time Slow Motion are the cherry on top. A must buy if you're a casual or pro-player because both can have a good time with it (something not every AAA fighter can provide). Expand

Finally a good fighting game for the PS4. It is also on the PC so double score. The animations are smooth the game play is fun and there is ton to learn as far as more advanced techniques.

Firstly I was pretty upset about the roster cutbacks, I lost my 2 main characters (Lei/Roger) and I'm not the only one... Where are the other classic characters??? Mokujin? Armor King? Marduk?????? Instead they are replaced by weeb-friendly characters like Eliza and Lucky Chloe. The guest character could have been a good idea, if they took a character from a 3D fighter and reworked it rather than using Akuma from 2D Street Fighter, just feels wrong.

Story mode is about as interesting as paint drying, the new screw system just isn't as fun and fast paced as the juggle/bound system on T6 & TTT2, and don't even get me started on Rage Art, way to dumb down the game and make it accessible for any old button-masher to win! Namco/Harada did this game for the money and definitely not for the die-hard fans.

However I will commend the deep character customisation, it can be pretty good fun messing around with all the possibilities there.

TL;DR - personal opinion 4/10 due to lack of content esp for age-old Tekken fans like myself (played since the first) also Namco's plan to monopolise on DLC by releasing about 15 chars on roster then releasing the rest as extra payable content, wtf happened??? But if you're a casual fighter fan and looking for something to pick up and play with friends - this is probably the best 1v1 fighter on the shelves for PS4/XB1 right now, but keep your eyes peeled. Much better fighting games are on the horizon.

The one flaw is a lackluster story mode, which pales in comparison to the ones created by the recent "Mortal Kombat" & "Injustice" games, which doesn't let you play as enough characters in the game, and quite frankly, the story just isn't that good. That aside, as a pure street fighting game, it doesn't get much better than this, and for 'Tekken' fans, a must own. Expand

    2. Even when you find opponent, there is 1/3 chance you will lag, sometimes you will have 4-5 games in a row that you will have heavy lags. You can easily lose to someone spamming one combination, and there is no fun even if you win, since no skill is involved.

    3. Game has horrible code, it is loading all the time. Character screen? I need to load it. Choosing which side of the screen you want? I need to load it? Finding opponent? I need to load it? Accepting rematch with same opponent and map? I need to load it. For a game with so little textures and objects, this **** is constantly loading - you get old in this game, waiting for anything to happen.

Bottom line, if you are a billionaire who burns money and just want to waste time by waiting for something to load and then lag to death... still dont buy it, donate to charity. It is the only online game I play that has so many, basic problems. It is as if Harada and his team, spend this 3 years on designing hats and tshirts for characters (which are still ugly ) instead of making online works, online which is the only thing making this game worth any penny. Its a waste of time and money, run, switch franschise, as clearly there is no future in Tekken. If in 2017 they cannot figurate out online gameplay, then really something is wrong with dev team.

While Tekken 7 can feel a little “been-there done-that” when it comes to the game mechanics, it’s one of the most fun classic-style fighters I’ve played in a really long time. The variety in the character selection and customization is unmatched in the genre, the fighting is delightfully simple yet still packing a lot of complexity, and Treasure Mode is a blast.

I wanted to return the game as soon as i got it because i didn't understand anything, but the time i learned a single combo (Which is nothing in this game, NOTHING, it's the bare minimum to not be destroyed by the cpu on medium) i was hooked and became one of my favourite fighting games.
So, core gameplay: 10. Characters... i like a lot of them, usually i get 3-4 characters i like, but here i like half the cast so it's quite a lot to enjoy
-Story mode is... passable... to be honest 80% of it doesn't go anywhere... but there're some epic moments... to me, while those moments were great, the rest of the story was as meh as it could be.
-Treasure battle is fun, you fight, you unlock things for customization... it's a nice way to make you play offline while you learn the game, keeps the things moving.
-Customization is weird. You can make your own character, and tweak every color... but 80% of the costumes are shared between all the cast, and 90% of them are "weird". You may want to make a serious character but 90% of the items you can add to his back are giant pizzas, giant sushis, teddybears, etc... I've ended up customizing a little but it's not that good if you don't enjoy weird stuff
    - Online (PS4): it's bad... i'm from Argentina, south america, and more than a month since the game was released, i've not reached 30 online battles. The matchmaking takes up to an hour to find a match (while every other fighting game i play finds someone in a few minutes, so it's not a problem of my connection being bad, it's about where i am and that defines that the game is dead online.
    - tournament mode online won't work because if the creator of the tournament leaves, the tournament is closed, so basically, if he-she loses, he leaves because he doesnt want to wait and you get screwed and lose the prizes.

So for me its one if not the more enjoyable fighting game nowadays but if you're on ps4 and south america online has been dead since arrival and even after 2 patches, things haven't changed.
Story is good enough but offline content is lacking. treasure battle helps but to a point

Key players are missing such as Lei Wulong and Julia Chang/Jaycee, which is something they will most likely release in the future. I'm SLIGHTLY disappointed, but either they will release them in the future or I'll just go play TTT2 or 6.

As for the single player mode, we are missing many of the standard modes like Survival and Team Battle. But we are given Treasure Battle (also known as Ghost Battle with more loot.), which is fine, but doesn't really do that much different. Fortunately, there is a story mode, but even that is watered down with a needless narrative perspective; which only serves to make sure you take the Mishima storyline seriously.

Taking a note from Capcom's Street Fighter V, the other characters get a chance to face off against their rivals after you finish the main story and allow to unlock their endings. Which, to be honest seems to be more of a rush job and less of a nod to fans.

Ultimately, this and almost all fighting games now are gearing themselves towards online gameplay which is either a good thing or a bad thing. Me personally, I'm a local co-op player, so I guess I'm a dying breed. Also, as cool as the new Rage system is, it's TOO EASY to simply win a match with the press of ONE BUTTON. Matches are supposed to be tense and tight when your life is low, Rage takes away that excitement.

Overall though, Tekken 7 is a step back from TTT2 and 6, but improves itself in ways that you will either embrace or hate.

Besides that, everything feels half baked:

    - Story mode is unfortunately a disappointment. It's short, narrated poorly and does not feel like a satisfying ending to the 20 year feud between the Mishimas (that we were promised). It's okay but nothing more.
    - No more specific ending movies for finishing arcade with the different characters. You get a small engine-based movie for some characters after a 1-battle story segment, These are not interesting / funny/ sad like older movies from older games.
    - Arcade mode is practically useless. All characters are unlocked and movies are unlocked from story mode. So you basically get no built in way to try the characters and the new characters like Josie, Kazumi and Katarina are barely introduced at all in the game.
    - Currently (with emphasis on currently) Online works quite poorly. You will wait a lot of time for a match and there are disconnections here and there.
    - No Lei Wulong :(((

Overall for ppl who only play tekken for online 1vs1 this is okay since the core gameplay is magnificent but wait for online to be fixed. However, be prepared that this game does feel bare bones and does not satisfy regarding the Mishima Story.

I would not take stock in the negative professional reviews, which seems to present 3 common critiques, each of which is not persuasive. They are; 1) The game hasn't changed enough in over 20 years and is "outdated." When a perfect formula is arrived at, it doesn't need to be "updated" for the sake of presenting something new. We have seen dozens of fighting games come along since the first Tekken games, all of which brought something "new" to the table. But introducing new elements to games for the sake of bringing consumers something else to buy is a pathway to gimmicks, and that's exactly what tekken's competitors have offered. If you want something new, buy a different fighting game, if you want something good, buy Tekken 7. 2) The game is too hard. This argument can also be read, "the game is too good." Yes Tekken is difficult to learn. That's what makes it great. There is a reason Tekken tournaments are well populated years after the release of a game. Tekken is as close to a quintessential esport as it gets, a game where button mashing will not prevail past the very introductory stages. What Tekken lacks in gimmicky features it makes up for in it's incredible complex movesets. Most of the negative reviewers gave higher scores to much easier games, though I would advise those reviewers not to give Tekken 7 a negative review merely because they did not put in the time it takes to learn its systems. 3) Tekken 7 lacks a good plot. This doesn't even merit response. The plots of fighting games are background filler, nothing more. Saying that you didn't like Tekken 7 because of lack of plot is like saying you didn't enjoy the super bowl because it lacked plot. It's a sport. There isn't supposed to be a plot.

Tekken 7 is the best fighting game there is, no contest. Buy it, take time to practice, and you'll be glad you did.

They removed cgi movies after finish arcade battle just like old times . Now we have 10 15 second scenes . My main character is actually Bryan . When i looked for his move list damn it it was same w Tekken 6 and old games. No single difference except rage art thing.
Worst story i ve ever seen if u wonder how tekken 7 's story continue , u better brace yourself and i really dont want to talk about online servers. I cant even play with my friends. Everything is same with old games, new thing is rage art ( xray combo from MKX ) and so many missing including characters...

Tekken 7 is far from an improvement over the last entry in the series. And I am really struggling to think of anything positive to say about this game.

A new installement shouldn't have less content than it's predecessor, but sadly that is exactly what we're treated to in Tekken 7. Gone is Team Battle, Ghost Battle, Time Attack and Survival. And gone is Bruce, Wang, Marduk and Lei,

And gone is Bruce, Wang, Marduk and Lei, together with several other main characters from previous titles.

And don't get me started on their new implement of Rage Arts, which totally ruins the game for me. Instead of an intense moment in the end of a fight when both players are down in life. A button can be pushed to pull off a special move that drains 1/3 of the opponents life bar.

I can't say anything about online play yet, as I haven't been able to play it due to connectivity problems with their servers.

Hopefully in the future they will release new game modes and characters. Have an option to remove Rage Arts and have stable servers. But until then, this game will sadly collect dust in my shelf.

Well, back to Tag Tournament 2 for me.

I love Tekken even though I have never been any good at it. I only play it casually with my brothers, but it is always fun. The only real reason I am rating this so poorly is because of how awful the graphics are. I know that graphics are not the most important thing, especially in a fighting game, but....Tekken 7 looks like a PS3 game unless you are running it on a PS4 PRO. The game looked amazing in the trailers, but it is clear to me now that they were showing us the PS4 PRO version. As much as I wanted to ignore and tell myself that it did not look that bad, it did. Some of the textures are embarrassingly bad, there is no denying that. It will look like a last gen PS3 game a good amount of the time. Other than that, if you can ignore the fact that it looks awful, it really is a brilliant game with tons of things to do and lots of awesome characters. I just really cannot believe that the PS4 cannot do such a simple game at 1080p. I am re-rating this from a score of 3 to a score of 1 because I forgot to mention that the online is not working for pretty much anyone. I was able to get into one match out of like thirty tries, look on youtube for countless network connection error videos. Expand

    The proud owner of Tekken's 1 - 6 and TTT 1 and 2.

Had really high expectations as this game will show the final ending to the Mishima Feud. Really disappointed that they chose the Capcom route and sold the game full price with little content. Where's Time Attack, Survival and Team Battles?? I know where. In the next 1 or 2 DLCs with the other much loved fighters like Lei, Anna

Arcade mode is pointless as all the fighters are unlocked. To get their movie, you fight one single battle and its not even a CGI cutscene.

No unlockable mini games. I was looking forward to a revamped Tekken Ball Mode ala Tekken 3. Once you completed the story, there's nothing much to do. They have a Treasure Mode which is like Ghost modes from Tekken 5, 6 and TTT2.

Newcomers will love this. Loyal fans like myself will be disappointed. Not even soundtracks and ending movies from previous titles interest me.

Only chance longevity at this point is Online and already the Ranking mode is already broken. I get 1 fight connected out of 10. Tournament mode is the only fun part, that's if you get a group from the same region and little ping.

Rage Art is a joke, gives the losing person a chance by doing a move that'll take half your life away. I wasn't a big fan of the Rage system altogether to be honest.

Tekkens 3, 5 and TTT2 imo are still the best of the series. Newcomers will enjoy this, but unless they release something like a Scenario Mode where you can grind gear and stats for your fighters like T6. This game's longevity won't go for very long, compared to other fighters like Injustice 2.

I'm not going to be like other raging fan boys and give it a 0, but I'll give it a 7, putting my perspective to a new comer.

Really great game. Lots of nonsense criticism in comments like cast of characters mentioned by user Toxicology - ill get to that later, according to ablan Injustice is better because tekken is more button mashing friendly - seriously? You can win by button mashing in injustice/mk but good luck trying that in tekken against anybody who knows how to play. Rage art also criticised by ablan -Really great game. Rage art also criticised by ablan - dude You know that this is mechanic straight from street fighter/mkx (super combo/x-ray)? Go flame somewhere else because Youre doing it wrong.
On to the lack in cast - those listed by user Toxicology:
First of all Alex, Ancient Ogre, Angel, Armor King ½, Azazel, Christie Monterio, Combot, Devil Kazumi, Dr. Bosconovitch, Forest Law, Gun Jack, Jinpachi Mishima, Julia Chang, Jun Kazama, Michelle Chang, Miharu Hirano, Mokujin, Prototype Jack, Raven, Roger, Roger Jr, Tiger Jackson - those were all reskins from cast who is actually on the rooster, dumb kangooro or raptor like roger/alex or **** end bosses like azazel - who really misses those? Good riddance. Well Christie was nice reskin from Eddy gordo.
We actually can miss Anna Williams, Baek Doo San, Bruce Irvin, Craig Marduk, Ganryu, Julia Chang, Kunmitsu, Lei Wulong, Wang Jinrei, Zafina, but only 2 -3 of those were really popular (Marduk, Lei and maybe Bruce). I dont mention raven because there is a girl in T7 just like him. Besides I bet well see them in dlc later. New cast is also quite nice, and akuma is really fun addition because that is really one of the best character in all fighting games.

True flaws of the game is net code at start (hope they fix it) and I miss the ability to choose one of the 3 opponents from tekken 5 when I play treasure hunt - also the same scenery for 5 or more matches is just not fun, it should shuffle it more.

Other than that the game is just simple fun like always. Great graphics and perfect soundtrack. I just love to feel the power in punches/kicks from tekken which really is the best 3D fighting game on the market. And for that it deserves nothing less than 10 out of 10.

Tekken 7 is very much Tekken, exactly like you've always known it. Luckily the game knows how to get maximum gain out of seemingly minimal additions, like the flashy Rage Arts, tactical Power Crushes and surprisingly spectacular presence of Street Fighter icon Akuma. But due to the pretentious and disappointing single-player content it will never be a classic.

This is the pinnacle of the Tekken series – a joy to play, with a wealth of content, that's as challenging and precise for aficionados as it is inviting and engaging for neophytes. A masterpiece of the fighting genre.

Welcoming back old hands and encouraging newcomers, Tekken 7 beats its own path and ensures that you want to walk it, kicking various backsides along the way. [Aug 2017, p.83]
