SUPERHOT VR is a dazzling experience that manages to improve on what was already mind-bendingly intense. I didn’t think it was possible, but the developers have improved on SUPERHOT, cutting what little fat there was off of and leaving only the purest moments of intense violence. SUPERHOT was a completely bold and different addition to the world of FPSs, and SVR manages to do exactly the same thing to the virtual reality scene.

Inherited PSVR hardware issues aside, Superhot VR is to date one of the best games you could possibly play on the platform. Its expert pairing of challenge and empowerment make for an exhilarating shooter experience, that has you thinking and reacting in equal measure to feel like a lighting fast action hero.

Superhot VR’s fantastically clever time-manipulating concept empowers you with the superhuman reflexes of a slow-motion action hero. Shattering waves of glass-like enemies while moving your face out of the path of incoming bullets is a thrilling challenge in both the cryptic story mode and the endless mode that follows.

Superhot has been talked about a lot since it debuted on Oculus, and for good reason. Now that it’s finally available for PSVR owners, it’s a must have for anyone who wants to play a VR first-person shooter with a twist.

PSVR feels like it was made for this simply because Superhot VR is indomitable proof of life for Virtual Reality as a gaming platform. If you have PSVR this needs to be your next game.

Both versions of Superhot are well-executed little games, though its steep price tag doesn't gel well with its rather short lifespan.

Superhot VR is a license to perform inside of a bullet ballet without any of the implicit horror of gun violence. Its hook—time only moves when you do—makes room for strategy and action in equal measure, and its stationary operation neatly accommodates and conceals the limitations of virtual reality. All that’s left is to imagine is the caliber of Superhot VR’s performance outside of Sony’s finicky hardware.

Superhot is a unique game that blends FPS and puzzle game together, creating a fun and thrilling experience for Playstation VR.

SUPERHOT VR has some issues with tracking and repetition but manages to make you feel so bad ass that it's easy forgive. There is plenty of content to interact with if you decide to do so, just make sure you have a big enough play space to do the game justice.

SUPERHOT VR is one of the most inventive first-person shooters you’ll find on any gaming system – let alone PlayStation VR. The title leverages the fledgling peripheral to intensely satisfying effect, but a reliance on repetition to pad its short running time and some unintuitive systems prevent it from being a bonafide classic. Moreover, by pushing Sony’s virtual reality headset to its very limits it does hit a few technical snags, but when the stars align this is the very definition of a killer app. Quite literally.

Although it looks like a FPS, Superhot is a puzzle game. The VR experience is great, but the game is too short and sometimes it can be frustrating. Art direction is simple, but works great.

The VR version of Superhot is definitely the definitive one, able to exponentially increase the involvement and immersiveness of a gameplay associated with movements and the flow of time.

Still in its infancy, PlayStation VR is waiting for its killer game. Superhot VR is a solid contender, but one that falls short of the mark due to the hardware's imprecision. It's a puzzling game that rewards you for patience and thoughtful approaches to difficult situations, but those tracking limitations spoil the fun more often than not. All that considered, the challenge is addictive, and the implementation of virtual reality into the world of Superhot makes the game nearly as enjoyable as its original release.

Not only is it one of the most unique experiences I have had in gaming this year, it might be one of the most unique I have had in my entire life.

I feel like every gamer should find a way to play SUPERHOT VR, but they should really look to play the Rift or Vive versions if they can. While it still provided some of the coolest moments I’ve ever experienced in a game on PlayStation VR, it also provided some of the most frustrating ones. It’s truly a masterpiece that is marred by being on a platform that just isn’t technically up to the task.

Superhot VR is an absolutely fantastic experience that'll provide thrills for almost any gamer. That being said, the limited replay value and its many irritating aspects may make you wish that you took the blue pill instead.

Superhot VR was a proof of concept that won the hearts and minds of any non-gamer we handed it to. But for serious gamers, this is an offering lazier than the bullets depicted. [October 2017, p77]

Wonky tech and punishing challenges will leave your cold, but with our without VR, this has moments of brilliance that are worth the price of admission alone. [Oct 2017, p.88]

Superhot VR is a unique experience in virtual reality. Very few games give you the heart-pumping thrill that Superhot does and the issues that come with the tracking capabilities of the Move Controllers and PlayStation Camera do not stop it from being a game that every PlayStation VR owner should pick up.

Superhot VR should be the ultimate power fantasy. Being able to juggle four pistols, firing each one off while dodging a hail of bullets is just one of the many stunning set pieces I’ve relished in. However, when one cog in the machine gets caught, that absolute immersion slips away. If optimised better and with slightly reworked levels, this would be a PlayStation VR essential. As it stands, Superhot VR is still good though too inconsistent.

I love Superhot VR on PC. But without proper room scaling and with evident technical problems this is nothing but a shell of one of the best VR games around. You can still sense the greatness of its brethren, but the execution feels too rushed and not catered to PSVR.

Not the PlayStation VR killer app you might have hoped for, but still a clever and imaginative mix of shooter and puzzle game.

It exceeded my expectations and is the ultimate VR experience. It is just as challenging as the original, and the movements make you feel like such a badass when you take out 5 guys at once. There is some wonky tracking issues sometimes, but that is an issue with the headset's tech rather than the game. Ultimately this goes down as the killer app of the PSVR, and even gives you a nice workout after a good session. Full Review »

Keep that inAfter launching, SUPERHOT VR received a huge amount of free DLC. Extra game modes, new maps, achievements, and secrets to find. Keep that in mind when you read old reviews for the game, such as those written before it was released on PSVR. Most of those old reviews took points off for a lack of content, which has since been added for free.

    Pros:

Gameplay that is both exhilarating and cerebral.
Stylized graphics look beautiful in VR.
Long, challenging campaign with a series of alternate modes for those wanting to mix things up, speedrun, or put themselves through hell.
Horde/survival mode, which pushes your skills to the limit.
    Absolutely no motion sickness.
Not a bland port of the base game. The concept is the same, but the execution is different.
    Not $60.
Available on Vive, PSVR, and Oculus.

    Cons:

Not a port of the base game. If you wanted an exact copy of PC SUPERHOT in VR, right down to story being the same, this game will disappoint you.
If you dislike new game+ modes, speedrunning, achievement-hunting, and horde modes, you'll only enjoy playing the campaign. Which is extremely fun, but around medium length.
