I don't usually buy fighting games, but I thought I'd give this a shot. Very disappointing. The "story" mode is nothing more than a couple half-baked, non-animated cut scenes, which make no sense whatsoever. I've finished about half of it in less than an hour. Having known nothing about the characters, this game doesn't flesh them out at all, so I'm still uninvested.

The command system might be familiar to people who regularly play fighting games, but to me, it seems too convoluted. I can't make a Z-shape with my joystick without jumping halfway across the stage.

In a game that has an obvious "good guys vs bad guys" angle, I've somehow ended up hating everyone and everything.

Without Blanka, Sagat, an Arcade & Single player mode SFV is an incomplete online crap,I can't believe what Crapcom did this time, by the way online mode sucks ..!

    - 16 chars, srsly ? MKX started with 24. SF4Ultra got 44 chars and Naruto got 100. Yes, number of chars in fighting game is important thing.
    - Just one Super Combo in game per char. It gets boring realy quick and human opponent know what to expect from You after combo bar is full.
    - No Arcade Mode...Yes, i like to finish my fighting games on UBER HARD difficulty without having to watch cliche storylines.
    - Story Mode is so easy it takes You literaly THREE MINUTES to complete on some chars...also, its so childish I cant play it when my gf is in home. Its not even old school "cliche" wanna be childish. Its just BAD joke. Cartoon Network cartoons got more depth in them then this. I understand its made for japanese "kawai" players, but I cant stand so much hello kitty in my go to fighting game.
    - Boobes... usually I dont have anything against the BOOBES... but they made them look so cartonish and totally over the top Im ashamed of myself playing this.
    - Early Acces title.

This is just a poorly made game. It is not alright to try and sell an incomplete game for full price. Besides the fact that it has practically no single player mode and a terrible online experience. This is a serious step down in quality and gameplay from past cap com titles.

Granted doing so can make the game go from a 4k masterpiece to looking like it was built for the Atari 2600, but it will still deliver 60 frames if you try to install it on a potato.

Unfortunately Capcom has totally failed to properly test this game. It is primarily an always online experience and the only way to correctly test such a thing is to leave those elements active during a beta test. Instead capcom only did short tests for a few days to a a week at a time and neglected to collect any relevant information as far as server load/stress goes.

This game also follows a new standard in development that will NOT be exclusive to Capcom. which is to sell an unfinished game at full price and offer the meat that goes with the bones as a later content update. It's essentially a disguised form of early-access and is the result of investor pressure to get a product out faster so they can make money sooner.

There will be a 'free update' in march which sounds fancy and great but it's really just them giving what they owe us for our $60+

This game will probably be worth a purchase but I would advise that you not do so until after the march update is released at the earliest. The game itself will be complete in June, so that would be when to buy it if you actually want your money's worth right off the bat.

At the point of release the game is essentially in Beta #5

Reasons I am disappointed in the game in my opinion and yes i did buy the game before writing this just to be clear

    1. Lack of an interesting story mode/single player - while yes many fighting games don't have story modes (unlike soul caliber and tekken and previous SF games *cough cough*) it falls hard compared to how it was done in SF4 and SF4 ultra where we get a cinematic and a small cut-scene against a rival, the most you're gonna get in SF5 is a picture you can easily google up with a voice actor saying 1 or 2 lines. While yes the SF series is mostly competitive gameplay not everyone is gonna play it for the online MP or training for a tournament

    2. Grinding - has apparently become the hottest new way to unlocking things in games because apparently so far as i've played the only way to be able to customize you're character is to beat survival mode a hellish amount of times and no i don't mean in total of you're entire time playing but you've literally have to sit there and fight through 50 matches against a cpu to get 3 colors.(why couldn't it be rewarded for beating a challenge mode which is locked until a march update for some reason) A nice way of implementing unlocking things in a single player mode i think is neat, is you start on a journey in you're hometown of you're chosen character japan/ryu for example and you traveled the world fighting characters you enounter while mastering the art of the fist or whatever your character is trying to do and when you beat them you get in-game credit that you spend for colors and costumes and while yes it is grinding its much more interesting then having to fight through 50 hard lvl cpu straight for 3 colors

3.features that aren't ready apparently- why is it that the game releases but you have to wait for the rest of the game to be released in an update in another 2 weeks after launch feels a lot like playing games in the 90s where we had to switch over to a second disk but we have to wait for capcom to ship us that second disk. This game feels alot like it was rushed and that before they could finish it capcom was like screw it the players don't care if its unfinished or not.

    4. Small roster - i understand that we shouldn't expect it to be 1000 playable characters but when i look on the screen 16 seems pretty small compared to the 19 in SF4 and then 35 SSF4 and while i already know that they'll be in DLC and i applaud that you can also get those characters with in game money or by buying them it still seems pretty small (i suppose that's because im use to other games like SSB wii u haha)

To most people that'll look at this post and say "ah what a baby stop whining" i write this because it seems like game developers are getting lazier and lazier at making games, yes it must be hard but this is why you do this is because its your passion right? if not find another job. I look at previous fighting games that came around the PS1 and PS2 era and man those were good times like the Capcom VS SNK 1 and 2 were phenomenal, a with a whopping 48 characters in their roster, their many challenge modes, great music, etc. Marvel vs Capcom with its innovated and unforgettable switch and combined attack mechanic. Its just sad to see that even in the game industry we're getting lazy, where's the passion, the drive if i were to give this game a rating i would give it 4/10 and maybe a 6 when the rest of the characters come out, jeez maybe i should get my old ps2 out from the box and get back into that haha well i'm done ranting thanks for listening to rambling and enjoy a game i think is subpar

Only one negative point for this game is that came not Arcade Mode for those who like to play offline and the lack of content in story mode, which will come after, promised by Capcom. The game is strategic convincing, a visual bonito of magic spells dazzling. But the online mode is very competitive and can fight with any gamer in the world.

this game is a insult to all the gamers.
this junk should not be called "game"
there should be some laws to punish these criminal developers
just wait until them finish all the content, and then decide whether you wanna play it, at that time the game will probably cost half the price

First and foremost, SFV is lacking significantly in content and that is an understatement. No Arcade, No gallery, No ladder, Online is currently broken, REQUIRES INTERNET CONNECTION TO EARN XP AND CAPCOM CURRENCY. Which is big considering that ONLINE is broken. Additionally, Story mode is 4 matches long and the cutscenes are longer than the actual matches. This is due to the cpu setting which is on EASY, and there is no ADJUSTING the DIFFICULTY. So I ask, WHAT IS WORTH 60 bucks?? Not this PRE access game with only 16 playable characters, and I believe eight stages. Now, when we see a limited amount of characters, one would believe that each character would have depth. Unfortunately, the characters are very bare-bones as well. Newcomers are short on specials and each character has ONE SPECIAL ART. I am not sure if more special arts are unlocked but at this current stage of the game, that is it. One positive note, is the graphics. While only slightly better than SFIV, it does possess some upgrades. It is terrible that such a revered franchise has been done so wrong and what is even worse, CAPCOM AND SONY were behind this. What was SONY thinking to see this game go GOLD and say "Hey, this is great! Lets release it!" And on top of that, Critic reviews MAKES NO SENSE!! How can these critics say this game is anything above ONE, when everything about this game is shallow and broken. I am truly disappointed in CAPCOM AND SONY ANNNND CRITICS for their negligence in releasing this title and reviewing it so high. As a REAL REVIEWER, I stand by the gamers and say wait six months until most of the content is released then pick it up at a reduced price. I doubt with this type of poor User input, the game will have legs. On my final note, I do not recommend this product CURRENTLY.

I feel like i've been ripped off, it had potential but in the end this game is just lacking. It lacks lots of content, it's focused on the online aspect, leaving the singleplayer in a non-existent state. Really not worthy, it just seems like a beta, an expensive one...

Street Fighter V was originally deigned to be an online only game until the fans expressed they wanted a story mode. The development of a story mode started late in production. That being said the game feels amazing. The controls are very tight and responsive and the game looks great. Combine that with a good soundtrack and you can't help but want to play more.

Day 1 was a bit touch and go with the serves but that is to be expected. The matches you do get put in are always of good quality thanks to the ability to filter matches by connection type.

This game is a MUST OWN for any fan of Street Fighter or fighting games in general.

This pains me a lot to say, but DO NOT buy this game until it is at least $20 cheaper than it is costing now. I've read a ton of negative reviews towards the game and decided to ignore it just to feel deeply frustrated and sad with this game. It lacks almost everything.

Firstly I will name the good things: 1) The gameplay is excellent, much better than SFIV and all characters have unique styles. 2) The graphics are very good, lightning and character models are top notch. 3) When it works, online play is consistent and the matches play smoothly.

    Now to the bad things:
    1) Very few single player game modes, story mode is a complete joke and you can finish it in 20 minutes, the cutscenes are boring as hell with static fugly images and terrible voice acting, the other single player mode, survival, is "ok" I would say, but still lacks. Why Capcom made this story mode? Why even bother? Street Fighter IV had an awesome story/arcade mode with beautiful anime style cutscenes, the story itself wasn't great but it was entertaining at least.

    2) Online mode does not work at all. I've sat there waiting for almost 20 minutes to play a game just to experience severe lag and after the fight was done, I had to wait another 20-30 minutes to play another one because the game does not have a "Rematch" option.

    3) The game forces you to be always online, even if you are playing survival, story or even the practice mode. And it constantly keeps sending a error message, interrupting your practice or vs. AI fight just for the sake of it. This has made me very angry a lot of times because at the beginning I thought that my own internet connection was having issues but no, it was working perfectly fine and the game was dropping from online to offline because the Capcom servers or something like that are TERRIBLE.

    4) If you are playing this on PC you might have a lot of performance issues. I have a mid to high end rig (i5 4690k, GTX970, 8gb RAM) and had a few issues like stuttering, random crashes and freezes.

That's what I remember (the good and the bad) for now but I HAD to make this "review", hell, I registered on Metacritic just to write this just to say to all of you to NOT BUY this game now, wait for a good price drop and then buy it. Capcom just made a terrible mistake releasing a half game and charging full price for it, given the very little content you can experience off the bat and online issues that cripple this game to death. The characters are nice, the gameplay is nice, the graphics are nice and the sound is nice too, but we cannot accept this, SFV was the first game I ever refunded on Steam (and I have played a lot of bad games on Steam but did not pay 60 dollars for them).

More and more games are being released like that (hello Battlefront), charging full price for a shallow and brief gaming experience and this will only get worse if Capcom gets away with this.

Please hear me, WAIT FOR A PRICE DROP and then buy it, do not buy it now unless you don't mind paying 60 bucks for a online only title because that's what this game is. There is no single player content whatsoever and I know that a lot of people did not buy SFIV just to play it online the same way people are going to buy this thinking they will have a full fledged gaming experience. And even the online mode has its huge share of problems.

I tell myself ok let see if there is an arcade mode..... NO? Ok then I will try to connect to the servers again.. Wow, I'm online. Let's find a fight. Searching for opponent and disconnected from server messages was all I found.

Well now, I have some game currency to spend from my "story" mode play. Let's check out the store... I'm sure there are some crazy day one bonuses, maybe skins to buy and of course micro transaction,

Well, STORE MODE IS COMING IN MARCH!

YES, THERE IS NO STORE TO SPEND YOUR IN GAME CURRENCY. And no micro transactions? Well that's normally a good thing BUT this was when I finally admitted to myself that this game was about 50% complete on launch.

Of course, I can get no refund for the game. On the bright side my fightstick works for other games that I own that were not kicked out the door 8 months early.

PS, In 6 hours, I was connected to one match. After two rounds that;s it. No rematch or followup fights with the opponent. Nope you get kicked back to the title screen to wait for it to find you another match. Let me know when they add the game to this game mechanics demonstration. UGH

Imagine doing this while streaming, talk about an anticlimactic stream.

And damn you PSN for no refunds... You are just as guilty as Capcom.

I wish I could get a refund but like an idiot I pre-ordered this game digitally and Sony don't refund.

This is even more of a dissapointment than Starwars Battlefront. I mean there is nothing to do in this game, there's no modes whatsoever after your 5 minutes of story content. No arcade at all and you can earn in-game credits by playing people online which doesn't even work for me to use in the shop mode that hasn't even been included in the game. This comes out at a later date. There isn't even that many characters, there's half of the selection of the good old days of streetfighter! Most of my favorite characters are completely missing which of course will be another £30 DLC to get the rest of the game.

If your only focus is online multiplayer or tournament-style competition, then you may feel like SFV is streamlined to your liking, but casual players wanting solo modes will be sorely disappointed. Capcom has built the game with a DLC release schedule in mind, and it will take several months of both paid and free downloads to make it feel complete. Even the story mode barely passes as an introduction to the 16-character roster, as it currently features 4 low-tier fights with some quick graphic novel cutscenes in between. It's nice that we get Japanese and English dual audio, partially because the English voice acting is a mixed bag and nowhere near the quality I'd expect from a high-profile release like this. Street Fighter devotees will be pleased to know that the narrative is pushed in some interesting directions, but it's far from poetry. Also, the new characters are [arguably] better than the ones we got in SFIV's initial release, but they still don't feel as iconic as the series mainstays, many of whom will remain absent until several waves of DLC have passed. The new mechanics are solid and perhaps more balanced for competitive play, and the graphics are fluid and crisp, if the weird caricature art style doesn't turn you off. Sound effects and music are also decent, but the intro lacked any real punch, something I really enjoyed in the earliest SFIV releases and even SFxTK. I really want to like SFV, but in its current state, it really fails to excite me the way a good fighting game should. Inevitably, we'll end up with Super Street Fighter V Turbo: Arcade Edition (or something to that effect) in a year or so, and while I know most gamers won't be able to wait that long, I doubt anyone will look back at this launch fondly. It's a half-baked triple-A title designed to gobble up DLC money, and yet I can't deny the allure of jumping in while the game is still hot. Buy at your own risk, I suppose. Expand

I said to myself, well that happens all the time, I'll give it some time. The next day I try again, this time I can log into the servers but I have to create a unique name (for some reason you can't use eternal, aeternalis, or any derivative of Eternal, just 'cause. I tried names I know people would have for sure and it gave another error. So for some reason, it doesn't allow you to pick even the most mundane names)

After that got resolved, matchmaking didn't work. Casual, Ranked, or Battleroom, all three didn't work. Tried the story mode (it's super thin and the AI sucks). Then, tried arcade, doesn't work out since you can't play against the CPU?

Ono (creator) says that he wanted to focus his efforts entirely on matchmaking and netcode because having a good foundation is key to a fighting game nowadays. I agree entirely. However, if SFV is to be judged by that standard, his whole team failed the three years he's been working on it.

What pisses me off the most is that they're going to fix it and call it Super Street Fighter V next year.

Bottom Line Capcom: If you want my money now, you need to at least put out a game that has nominally functioning servers, especially if your entire model depends on it.

Mechanically this is no doubt the best game in the series. However at launch I can't ignore that there isn't enough content for casual players. Street FLOP V. We all are Beta testers for Capcom. The game is an early access pretending to be complete. I felt cheated and disappointed. The online feature does not work and it does not have a playable arcade Mode.

This is a shame, even a game over 20 years formatted cartridge had a more complete gameplay Street Fighter 5.

I can not fathom as a game of its size can be output with so few game modes, this is an insult to the fans, of course I will not pay a dollar until it finds the game presented.

Story: Very lacklustre, actually laughable and probably the worst i've seen from the franchise - just 3-4 fights (which are like on very easy) and with no sort of cinematic or cutscene only voice acting played over well drawn but uninteresting pictures, nothing else - zilch i shake my head Capcom. - 2/10

Gameplay: Still able to succeed with its traditional style gameplay they did try improving it with the V Skill mechanic and i found it okay-ish but still its not a game changer. Still a high caliber fighting game but its failed to take that step further from its predecessor. - 8/10

Graphics: 6/10 - Not a major difference just a mere improvement from the last, nothing spectacular.

Fun Factor: 9/10 - Besides the lack of game modes, mediocre story and good online play, you will obviously find most fun fighting against friends and family in Versus.

Despite being very disliked it doesn't deserve 0s to 3s but i don't blame those who give it that rating because the game obviously unfinished/chopped up or rushed and thats not a good sign for any release.

6/10 - Above average, a empty game with its content gone missing. Even big fans of the series, competitivie and brave stick fighters would agree with me, WHAT IS THIS CAPCOM.

This game has very little content even for a fighting game. No versus CPU,arcade and online is always under maintenance. The only thing to do is practice and survival mode. The only thing thats great is the gameplay but im already getting bored:(

This game is awful. If the only two fighting games were Street Fighter V and running 2 cars from NASCAR 2000 on N64 head on into each other NASCAR would be the better fighting game.

Terrible release from an AAA studio.

You either build a free to play online game with purchasable content OR a fully priced game with solid content and optional online mode.

This game is an online free to play skeleton for 60$.

    Shame. Shame. Shame.

This is clearly an unfinished product, with too many bugs as well as so few features it makes you wonder why it is 60 bucks. This is a clear cash grab and its not fair for fans casual as well as hardcore. This is what happens when you rush a game which rumor has it that the game was rushed out in order to make it for evo this year which does explain a lot.

Now when i got the game, I played it for a solid few hours and i was not very much affected by the lack of Arcade mode or the fact i have to wait for Challenge mode. The only thing that bothered me was the Day One server problems but to be honest: It was expected. It was very much expected.

The game, When the servers are fixed, will be great. Everyone i think is just butt-hurt from the servers being down and the lack of Arcade mode and Challenge mode at launch. (And you can just do Survival mode, It's like Arcade mode basically) But once these things are fixed, Everyone is gonna be fine.

To finish this review: Street Fighter V is a great game with a bumpy launch. Most games have bumpy launches nowadays. Give it time for Capcom to fix the servers and you will not regret your purchase.

Sigh. Capcom has gone and ruined street fighter. The game feels like a demo. 12 fighters!? And a bunch of modes are absent. Online mode isn't working. Story mode is a joke. I cant even write anything more because there is no game here. Its a blatant ripoff. Insert expletive here @ capcom. I want a refund. Dont buy this game. Wait il its $10 or less in the clearance bin. 1. There’s a great game in Street Fighter V, but only if you’re willing to learn the hard way. Capcom will need more than the few thousand competitors following the Capcom Pro Tour to make this game, and the series as a whole, sustainable for the future.
