It leaves much to be desired in terms of content, but the quality of what is there and how it will evolve over the months makes this a top tier fighter that is going to get better over time. [Issue#267, p.59]

Technically Street Fighter V is probably the most accomplished fighting title to date, with the gameplay mechanics standing second to none. The characters are all unique and there’s little overlap of abilities and the content that’s available out of the box, what little that there is, is a solid and thoroughly enjoyable gaming experience… It just currently stands as little more than an impressive demonstration of what’s to come in the following months, which is a little disappointing.

Even with the lack of an Arcade mode and temporary server issues, though, Street Fighter V manages to shine.

Street Fighter V is the series at its best. Whether you're an experienced Street Fighter or a complete newbie, this is your chance to get involved in what will be an amazing competitive experience.

The next step in fighting games' mechanics, but a step backward on game modes.

Street Fighter V is ambitious. Capcom expects it to last a whole generation and that's why they bet for new content that will be rolling for the next few years. Its gameplay mechanics are impeccable and the visuals are just stunning, although it lacks some game modes, which together with a small roster and the not-so-good story mode burden the experience a little bit. Obviously aiming for online play, Street Fighter V is a game which will get really popular, and that should be checked out once in a while in order to uncover its true potential.

The new Street Fighter is an excellent fighting game, beautiful to watch and play, with an incredibly deep gameplay and plenty of new moves to learn and master. The lack of a real single player experience may be a problem for someone, but the game is bound to expand in the next few months. For now, it's simply the best multiplayer fighting game around.

Street Fighter 5 is deep, endlessly fun, and immensely inviting, but local competitive play is currently the primary way to enjoy it.

People who got into the fighting game community with Street Fighter IV may not want to hear this, but from a base design, Street Fighter V is by far the superior game. Capcom has paved over and smoothed out a lot of the things I didn’t like about Street Fighter IV’s design. A lot of those issues created poor play habits, which makes it feels like Capcom is making small steps to mature the game, and in turn is trying to mature how the player base plays fighting games.

It’s hard to find fault with the bigger picture Capcom has in mind here and, assuming the online issues are dealt with quickly at launch and the rest of the game modes arrive as promised, this is looking like a perfect round.

Street Fighter V's gameplay sits with the best that gaming has to offer. The characters are truly distinct, the presentation first rate, and the netcode is utterly sublime. A lack of single player modes at launch dulls the sheen somewhat, and is the only element preventing the title from achieving true greatness. However, with the engrossing Capcom Fighters Network, the game's set up as a fantastic online playground in which to research techniques, stalk idols, view friends' failures, or simply sit back and watch – all the while waiting for your next challenger in this deep, enthralling fighter.

Even as a person whose grasp of fighting games is nowhere near top-tier standard, Street Fighter V is the most fun I’ve had in a fighting game in years.

It will easily become the dominator of the fighting genre in the next months thanks to its countless virtues: accessible, deep, technically sound, varied, well-balanced, agile and especially fun.

A rock-solid fighting system and a brilliant technical performance will convince you to enjoy its great online brawls. It lacks some interesting options, tough, and it only features 16 fighters. It will become better and better in the future.
  21. With its new gameplay elements, user-friendly controls and style, Street Fighter V has turned into a 'must-play' fighting game that we are all looking for.

Street Fighter V delivers the first hit against the player by surprising him with the best fighting system in the series. The distillation of all the titles so far, maturing for over 25 years, manages to raise the boundaries of the franchise to new heights and awaits the players to push it even further. Let the lack of content be for now. Focus on the excellent gameplay and rest assured that the game will compensate for it in the future.
  24. Feb 15, 2016

For competitive players Street Fighter V is just spotless. The fighting is solid and the new mechanics are superb, but you don't have to be a veteran to enjoy playing it. On the single-player side, the game still feels inadequate to guide the newcomers to the online arena, but with several DLC already planned, this lacking element should just be temporary.

Despite the incomplete launch, SFV makes some bold moves gameplay-wise, and it really succeeded in evolving the combat system formula.
  26. Feb 15, 2016

Capcom redefines the fighting game genre once again with Street Fighter V. The game looks awesome and the characters are great. The battles are dynamic and far more balanced than before. Despite minor flaws, this is a must buy.
  27. Feb 15, 2016
    84
Though bare-bones in presentation and lacking single player content right now, Street Fighter V offers a perfect blend of accessibility and depth, making it a fun fighter for players of all skill levels.
  28. Feb 16, 2016
    83
While it’s not bad on any level, SFV definitely feels unfinished and not as polished as previous games in the series.

Even with a unsuccessful launch, we can consider this game as one of the best fighting titles released so far. However, the downside of Street Fighter V can be seen in the single player modes, which are short and almost non-existent, giving the feeling of being in an Early Access.

Street Fighter V is a wonderful game that’s not ready yet for launch. That’s not to say it doesn’t work - and work well - at what it does (most of the time). The problem is there’s not really enough of it, all working all the time, to warrant a release now.
  31. Mar 2, 2016

You can’t do a review of Street Fighter V and not mention the lack of content for those who not want to play online. And yes, it’s a shame – but at the same time Street Fighter V is as entertaining and deep as ever. With more content in the future this is probably going to be the best installment in the series so far.
  32. Feb 28, 2016
    80
Street Fighter V echoes the competitive mentality behind its enduring classic Super Street Fighter II Turbo – matches are about finding the right distance to be effective, using your normal moves well and knowing match-ups, rather than overwhelming your opponents with one-frame link combos and option selects.
  33. Feb 18, 2016

Solid gameplay and core but light on content. It will be exciting to see what's coming in the future, but I can’t help but be somewhat disappointed with the initial set of modes.

Just like Ryu and his never-ending quest to become the world's best brawler, Street Fighter 5 is a work in progress with a long journey ahead of it. And based on this evidence, it's a journey you should most definitely pack your bags for.
  35. Feb 16, 2016
    80
With awesome graphics and a renewed gameplay, it's hard not to recommend Street Fighter 5, but its economic model based on filling an empty game with DLC's has certainly taken its toll on our will.
  36. Feb 16, 2016
    80
While it is incomplete by design, with the missing content being dolled out for free over the course of the year, Street Fighter 5 is the most accessible the franchise has ever been and remains mechanically brilliant.
  37. Feb 15, 2016
    80
Street Fighter V is a game with one the best gameplay experiences and online modes of its category. But the lack of solo modes will disappoint the casual gamer.
  38. Feb 15, 2016
    80
Street Fighter V does everything perfect in the fighting matters, but we can't ignore the lack of content for the solo players. Capcom has the tools for years and years of competition, and that's the clue for the Street Fighter enthusiast.
  39. Feb 15, 2016
    80
A thoroughly excellent game and one that Capcom intend to support for a good while to come. It is, however, an intensely involved beat-em-up, as well as a work in progress, and only time will tell if the online community will be able to support players unfamiliar with the series.
  40. Feb 15, 2016
    80
We’ll be returning to the game multiple times over the months and years to come. And unless something goes terribly wrong we’re sure that 10/10 will come eventually. But for now you’ll just have to put up with what is merely one of the best new fighting games of the generation.
  41. Feb 15, 2016
    80
Street Fighter V paves the way for the future of Capcom’s legendary fighting game series—but it’s also a release that’s relying on near-future updates in order to feel like a finished product. Once they come, however, this should really be something special.
  42. Feb 15, 2016
    80
Most people will be spending their time in the online component, though, and here's the good news: it works, and when more players start to really use it, it's going to be great.
  43. Feb 15, 2016
    80
The combat system stands as the game's strongest and most important pillar, which masks some of the minor imperfections with the graphical clipping and online performance.
  44. Feb 15, 2016
    80
It sports a wonderful, diverse cast of characters, places a clear emphasis on strong fundamental play, it gives competitive players a great online experience, and it does it all while looking gorgeous. Strictly in terms of mechanics and competitive features, Street Fighter 5 is just about peerless, but it has quite a ways to go before it stacks up against other fighting games - including its own predecessor - in terms of overall content.
  45. Feb 20, 2016
    78
It’s just too bad that we’ve got a bizarre lack of features in terms of single-player options, and not having the in-game store or this much-ballyhooed "expanded" Story Mode until later is another big problem. The performance snafus are being ironed out quickly but that doesn’t change the fact that they existed at launch. I refuse to gloss over that.
  46. Feb 24, 2016
    77
You’ll feel that this might be the defining beat-em-up of this generation – or at least it could be over its life cycle. Right now this is a contentless base product that sports one of the tightest fighting mechanics there is.
  47. Feb 29, 2016
    75
An excellent fighting game, wrapped in an incomplete package.
  48. Feb 24, 2016

Disappointingly incomplete as far as content goes; quite great in the gameplay department. Whether the good outweighs the bad is in this case up to you.
  49. Feb 17, 2016
    75
With excellence on its gameplay, Street Fighter V is a positive step for the franchise. Unfortunately, it’s afflicted with some of the worst practices in the contemporary video games industry.
  50. Feb 17, 2016
    75
Street Fighter V is a masterclass in fighting mechanics, but doesn’t offer enough content to necessarily justify buying in just yet unless you’re among the most die-hard competitive players.
  51. 75
As of the time of this review, Street Fighter V is a showcase of potential, but little else.
  52. Feb 15, 2016
    75
Street Fighter V employs complex and engaging mechanics, but it lacks enough content to keep the casual player interested.
  53. 75
When Street Fighter V is at its best, it's untouchable. A fantastic fighter with layer upon layer of depth. At its worst, it feels hollow and cheap. A work in progress that hasn't quite managed to complete the parts that are there.

  1. Feb 15, 2016
The game's 16 thoughtfully designed fighters are all unlocked and ready to trade blows the moment you boot it up. Their combat takes place within a smooth fighting engine worth recommending, too. The trouble is nearly every single thing currently surrounding that engine should be covered in those tacky, animated "under construction" GIFs.
  2. Feb 16, 2016
If anyone had any doubt about Capcom's ability to deliver a frame-perfect fighting engine, they can rest assured their fears are without merit. Sure, there will likely be balancing changes once the masses pick apart the V-Gauge and EX bars, but absolutely nothing at all about the feel of the game seemed "off" to this seasoned Street Fighter veteran.
  3. Feb 15, 2016
Like throwing a punch in the dark, buying Street Fighter V today is a speculative gamble.
  4. Feb 17, 2016
Most importantly it feels great. The colourful, muscular artwork lends extra weight to already ferocious scuffles, moves landing with crunchy force, accentuated by its brilliant habit of a split-second freeze for fierce hits. Everything is quick and forceful, with fights quickly taking on their own rhythm depending on both the characters and the players using them.
  5. Feb 15, 2016
The good news is that, as ever, Street Fighter 5 is the leader of the pack, even all these years later. If the servers can offer a solid online playground, too, then we should all be very happy.
