The lack of content is what ruins this game. Maybe over time when additional modes are added, this could be the best fighting game to come out, but until then.....there is just not enough here.

Online mode: not playable. Arcade mode: non-existent. Story mode: non-existent. If you buy this game, you deserve the poop sandwich that you're about to eat. If you absolutely have to play SF5, wait 1 year for all of the DLC characters and game modes to come out in an "ultra" version of the game for $15.
DO NOT BUY THIS HALF GAME.

It was in fact being demonstrated on their tv. So I kindly asked for the controller to try it out as I used to play Street Fighter alot way back during the Sega Saturn days. Played a few matches as Chunli as she was already chosen. Seems fun but I had to mash the buttons as I didn't play the game for a long time thinking, I might just grow into this. Was quite excited as other patrons in the store watched me. Sorry guys but I s*ck at it!

Went to character selection, saw there was only 16 characters. So I ask the guy over the counter "any other unlockable character?" The guy said no. OK. Doesn't matter. So lets see who's in the 16. You get the standard Ryu, Ken, Chunli and Cammy. There's no Guile, no Blanka, no Balrog, no Sagat, no Feilong, no Akuma. Instead we get like around 4 new characters, and you get....Birdie!!! WTFFF!!! Who on earth would tell you "I buy Street FIghter because I want to play a fat@ss Birdie?" Who?? So I gave the controller back to the guy and said no thank you. Was so baffled.

So I went home, did more research. Apparently characters like Guile will be released as free dlc down the line among other characters. Story mode is like 3 to 4 fights per character and you get to watch a slideshow. And apparently a story dlc is being released in June too. Ehm... ok. Then I look at the PS store, THIS GAME HAS A SEASON PASS!!!!!!! Wut?? So the game in its current state has sooo little content, and yet Capcom released it and they gonna charge dlc in the future??? So what? Some characters free some aren't? New modes? ARE YOU SERIOUS???

Guys, like what other people saying, the game isn't complete. Don't support it at full price. Don't support Capcom for screwing us over. 2 out 10. 1 point cos I like Street Fighter. Another point for not the worst game ever. Sorry Capcom, you don't deserve higher. Wake up and STOP. THIS. BS. PRACTICE. NOW!!!!

In molti lo troveranno fondamentale, io personalmente no.

While we may get plenty of Street Fighter re-releases over the years (looking at you, Ultra Street Fighter IV), it’s always a treat when a new numbered entry is lined up for release. After all, the last mainline game released in 2008. Wow.
Anyway, the acclaimed Street Fighter series is back in this new, breathtakingly gorgeous fighting game. The characters are well-defined and each of them have received much-needed changes to their appearances, though the game still spouts a bit of oversexualization. Anyway, the game looks good.
But for a series whose last entry had over 20 characters in just the base entry (44 in “Ultra”) we were a bit surprised to find only 16 characters in Street Fighter V, a full-priced console game in 2016. Now, before anyone freaks out, nothing really suffers because of this.
Each character is a joy to play as, from series regulars Ken, Ryu and Chun-Li to newcomers F.A.N.G. and Rashid. Obviously, Capcom still knows how to introduce something new and enjoyable, but the game’s mechanics and plans for future content are a bit wonky.
Things like new characters, stages and more will be released in waves, which you can purchase using in-game Fight Money, which is earned by, well, playing the game. It takes a while, so you’ll be pleased to know you can spend real-life money (converted to Zenny) to get the content as soon as it’s released.
Yes, we know. It’s lame to sell content like this post-release, but at least there is an option for in-game currency and none of the content is hiding on-disc. The only other recent game to do this was Guitar Hero Live, and the core game didn’t suffer because of it, so fret not. Just think of it like the old days where you would play hours and hours to unlock a certain character.
And please, don’t let the monetization scare you because Street Fighter V is a fantastic game, not only in gameplay and control but fan service. Each of the 16 characters sport an interactive comic-like story mode, as well as their “V-Skill,” “V-Reversal” and “V-Trigger,” special move mechanics new to this game. The game even supports PS3 fight sticks in the PS4 version, so you don’t have to replace those either.
Aside from the story mode, new mechanics and competent online matchmaking, the mode options are kind of bleak. There is Versus, of course, so feel free to go head-to-head with friends, and Survival, where you’ll have to win matches upon matches to unlock some new stuff for your characters.
Overall, the game looks and feel great, but it’s visibly unfinished. Think of it like Capcom’s version of an “Early Access” game. Make the investment now, have some fun, and keep playing as the game moves closer to completion.
Rumor has it that an actual arcade mode and new difficulty options are in the works. But we’ll see. Who knows? They could just save those for Ultra Super Uber Street Fighter V Complete Edition HD.

The first major problem with the game is the lack of a proper story mode, only consisting of 3 "cutscenes" (still drawings with a voiceover) broken by easy level bot fights per character. Although the "real" story mode, with allegedly over an hour of cinematic content and a difficulty setting for the current story mode are set to come, if your looking for this kind of single player content in a fighting game, right now this is not the game you're looking for.

Also another big complaint concerning single player is the lack of a true arcade mode, where you can fight the AI in quick match. Although there exists survival mode and you could also just fight the computer by setting on the AI in training mode, arcade mode is kind of a staple in fighting games and has been present on previous iterations of this same game so it seems definitely like a odd decision leaving this out of the game. Again, Capcom has already released a statement saying that arcade mode is currently in the works, but this is definitely something that will influence a lot of buyers looking for a better single player experience at the moment of purchase.

Other solo gameplay mode missing from the game at launch but scheduled to come March of this year is challenge mode. This update should be accompanied by the in-game store and our first dlc character. Now to give some credit to this game outside of gameplay related stuff i think the model of allowing characters to be released and bought with in-game money is a much better model than just releasing rooster updates as completely separate games, as it permits to unlocking characters with no real money investment after purchasing the game (unless you just cant wait to grind some points).
This is kind of justifies the always online issue (you can play offline just not gain point of it) but this point is debatable though, thanks to the instability online play had during the opening week, dropping you out of games a handful of times and sometimes also failing to record data after a match, although things have gotten better since then, at least in my experience.

But now when it comes to how "good" playing online feels, i think this game is pretty good. Online play has few minor differences to offline and little times have I felt some kind of lag compensation or slowness in my inputs which makes the online play really enjoyable and competitive (when it actually works), because the core gameplay of this game is also really good, inputs feel responsive, V trigger is a welcomed replacement for the revenge gauge, the character's themselves fill each different types of play, etc. And the game graphics even if they aren't the most technically impressive they do their job of representing in a interesting and understandable way what's happening on screen, same with music, with a few tracks and stages standing out as the more energetic and colorful of the bunch, but overall a pretty good bundle of them nonetheless.

This leads me to the conclusion, should you buy this game?

Depends, different people have different standards as to what is the value of 60 dollars and what they spend it in. This game *SHOULD* have been a must buy for any fighting game enthusiast or anyone looking for some fun arcade style fighting game but i unfortunately can't recommend the game to everyone in its current state. Right now the game lacks diversity and quantity of single player content as to make a valuable buy for someone looking to put more than an hour into story and challenge modes as it almost completely lacks this features at the moment, maybe just holding your money and checking in in a couple of months it's your best option.

But if your looking for some solid and really fun online multiplayer this is definitely a good option for you as right now the only "meat" the game has is in its good online mode and amazing gameplay.

TL DR: Game right now is not worth if you want a whole gaming experience, there are just better other games offering much more in those categories like MK X, Skullgirlls, BlazBlue, etc. Probably want to hold on a couple of months until most of the content gets released.
If you want the game for the online play,to get some practice with it, to grab experience on how the game flows and character matchups, and you really want to get gud then this game is pretty good, since the gameplay is one of the best and online play is very smooth.

However the next day things were better and on Monday they patched v1.0.1 and that seemed to have solved all the network problems. Since then I have been enjoying the game the way it is supposed to be played.

I must say I was quite skeptical in the beginning but the game is really growing on me. First of all the depth of game play is pretty crazy all the characters seem to have a lot of depth and the Vskill and triggers are lots of fun. The combos are easier to make than is SF4 which is great because some combos were too hard on SF4.

The game is gorgeous the cast is really well designed and animated. IMO SF5 has the potential to become the biggest fighting game on this generation of hardware. 8/10

Simply put, Capcom charged $60 for a partial game with the reason of "you're buying a platform" and some of the remaining content will be released in March, June etc. Basic modes, very basic modes, were excluded with no rhyme or reason for their exclusion. Save your money and wait until Capcom makes good on their promise. Until then there are much better and more complete games to spend $60 on

The single player experience is a joke; so bare bones and actually discourages new players from wanting to learn. Take Survival Mode for example; a mode required before unlocking character colours (FFS). This goes from 10 levels in Easy to jumping a significant amount to 30 in Normal, where you face Shin Bison at the end, who is VERY easy to lose against and therefore makes your previous 29 grinded-out matches for nothing. No reward at the end if you fail to beat him.

I feel like the only good thing about the release is the core mechanics of the fighting game seem good, but so much of it otherwise makes you *not* want to play it.

-No arcade stick support (or Mad Catz/any other fight pad support)
-Random crashing that was present in beta (rumored to be caused by Wacom tablet/touch screen)
-Rest of content tacked on as DLC scheduled to come months from now
-Rest of the characters being sold as extra DLC, one coming in a month proving he's already finished, cut content (which you can also use earned fight money to buy, but grinding for it will take forever)
-New costumes cost $6 (This is more than entire characters in other fighters)
-Story mode costumes that you use aren't even unlockable - you have to wait until later when you can buy them in the store

Final Thoughts: This game is basically online only, which is the same thing Titanfall and Battlefront got criticized for. If you don't have reliable internet, there's scarcely any single player content here for you.

Capcom strikes again. Would request a refund but GMG won't give them after they give out keys.

*Edit* This review was taken from my Steam review. Funny enough, I found someone had copy/pasted this on the SFV PC metacritic page. I'm not sure whether to be flattered or upset.

Hey, did you here that SF5 doesn't have a single player?!?!?!?!?!!?

Sorry... I'm writing this review to balance out the idiocy. Capcom released plenty of information surrounding what modes would be available at launch and yet people act indignant because their online, multiplayer, fighting game didn't have a story-driven, single player mode. So, here are the positives for the prospective buyer. SF5 looks, plays and feels great. There are variety of characters with unique fighting styles and the net play I've experienced has been virtually lag-less.

The V system is a huge improvement over SF4's focus attack. Ever try to explain the focus attack to someone who wasn't used to it? It would go something like this.

"See, there is this focus attack thing. It absorbs one hit, from most attacks, and if you hold it long enough you can crumple your opponent. But never use it like that. Instead, use it, then cancel in order to pull off a more useful combo."

The v-system is much easier to wrap your head around. Each character has a unique v-skill and v-trigger that covers a weakness of that character. Use your v-skill and it will build up you meter. When your meter is full, use your v-trigger to gain an advantage in the match, either by entering an empowered state or activating a unique, powerful move. It complements the flow of battle, rather then simply providing a complicated way to extend a combo.

The combo system has also changed quite a bit. Unlike SF4, landing a light attack won't usually lead to high damage combo. But, if you manage to hit an opponent during a heavy or special attack, you'll trigger a crush counter, which will enable new combos and deal additional damage.

Finally, Capcom announced that SF5 is the only version of the game that you'll have to purchase. For SF4, there were 4 iteration and you had to buy each if you wanted to keep up with the community. The $60 for SF5 is a steal by comparison. So yes, you're paying a little more up front this time, but it's the only time you'll need to and it will presumably be well worth it in the long run.

A game can have so much going right for it.

    - Smooth controls? Check. Good graphics? Check.

    - Interesting story and character development? Check.

    - "ZOMG, one thing wrong with t3h gaem!! 0/10"

Gamers these days seriously need to grow up and stop feeling so self entitled. Even if you don't think a game is good, or great, giving it a 0/10 for one or two problems while ignoring the bigger picture is ruining the industry almost as much as microtransactions and DLC.

The worst part is 90% of the people complaining and delivering 0/10 ratings never played the game in their lives to even give an honest opinion. They just follow the bandwagon where ever it takes them. Because screw thinking for yourself, the internet runs in packs. Think like everyone else.

Street Fighter V is a good game. I mean that at the basest level, because there isn't much content to talk about as of today. The gameplay is excellent. I mean that at the basest level, because there isn't much content to talk about as of today. The gameplay is excellent. Controls feel nice, music is enjoyable, and characters look amazing, even if they do sometimes phase through their own clothes. All of the pieces are there for this to be one of the biggest fighting games out there. Instead, it's one of the smallest. As a disclaimer, I understand that Capcom has stated that they'll be bringing a bunch of content to the game over the coming years, and I am looking forward to that, but I'm not reviewing their promises for future content, I'm reviewing the game that they shipped out.

With my experience with fighting games over the years, there are a handful of things I've come to expect when it comes to content. Namely, two of those things are an arcade mode and a versus mode. SFV has half of one of these things. There is no real arcade mode. There is a "story mode" where you get to enter a handful of fights peppered with sometimes passable art explaining why the characters are fighting. You may notice that with all of these, it's something they could've had one minute long cutscene explaining it at the beginning, and then a proper arcade mode. As to versus mode, like I said, it's half there. If you happen to have a friend who lives nearby who also likes fighting games, you're fine. But if you aren't so lucky or just want to practice bouts against a single character, you're out of luck, because there is no player versus computer function. I find it weird that there is no way to actually properly fight the computer. You never enter an actual match with the computer, and that just seems backwards. Even the worst, ugliest, most broken fighting games have had arcade modes and pvc functionality. It feels weird saying that Street Fighter of all things, is missing it.

Outside of the lackluster story mode, there is also survival mode, which is a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I really enjoyed the challenge of fighting an onslaught of opponents on one life, occasionally getting boosts to go on. My only issue is that I've occasionally gotten 20-30 rounds in, and the servers decide to collectively eat the dirt, and I'm booted from the game. I then have to reconnect, and start all over. Or, as is the case with certain characters, you only fight them at the very end, with a stronger cpu level. But you don't have any experience fighting these characters in proper fights because the only way you could even try to emulate this is in training because there is no pvc mode in versus.

A small point to make, I'm talking about this game almost a week after it's come out. I'm being nice and not reviewing the day one experience, because there wasn't one. Like I mentioned, even to this day I still get dropped by the servers. On day one it was a miracle to stay connected for longer than ten minutes. Now this would be fine if there wasn't a baffling requirement to be connected online to use any mode outside of training, or else you get no rewards for it. So basically, people like me who were suckered into buying this game out the gate had actually purchased a glorified training mode with a versus mode if you had a friend nearby. But as I said, not reviewing the day one experience, but that was something I wanted to mention.

I will say that now that the game's online connections have stabilized, Street Fighter V is a much more enjoyable game. Online matches are tons of fun, and I do enjoy the survival mode now that the hanging threat of disconnection isn't looming over me. But this game isn't done. This game feels like an EA game, which makes my skin crawl having to say that about any other company. It's a skeleton of a game with good promise and visuals, but quality over quantity only works so well, and things being released further down the line don't make the original game a tiny, incomplete experience. Speaking optimistically, I hope that Capcom fixes this. I hope that they add in a proper arcade mode patch in pvc for the versus mode, and to apologize to early adopters for such a pathetic release to a game they've hyped into the atmosphere, they release some of the DLC this year for free. Hopefully if that comes to pass, my score will jump up maybe 2-4 points and bring this into the green. But just like I said before, Street Fighter V is a good game, and that's it.

    Pros
    -great visuals and music
    -enjoyable characters and gameplay
    -strong multiplayer components

    Cons
    -barebones features
    -heavy reliance on upcoming content
    -disappointing single player experience

The servers have been so-so for over a week now, and they don't seem to be getting better anytime soon. However, the thing that makes me the maddest about this game is the fact that the local 2P VS mode doesn't work in my game. I have no idea how Capcom could mess this up, but I don't have local multiplayer available on my disc. I emailed Capcom Unity, and they told me that (around) 5% of all PS4 copies of the game have a glitch that won't allow the user to access the local multiplayer. So what does that mean for me? Well, my roommate and I are pretty much unable to play the game. The online has been spotty, there's no arcade mode, and there's no local multiplayer (for us), until Capcom puts out a patch. They (Capcom) told us to "hang tight", and that they would fix the local multiplayer glitch during the big June update. Supposedly the PC version doesn't have the local VS multiplayer glitch, so I definitely got screwed and bought the worst version of an incomplete, bad game. Avoid this game like the plague, Capcom should be a shamed of themselves. Anyone who gives this game a 10 has to be working for Capcom. Expand

The game also only comes with 16 characters, and is a massive step down from SFIV (although the gameplay is arguably better). As I am typing this I am waiting for almost six hours for a match online. The entire story mode can be finished roughly within 23 minutes and there is no arcade mode, leaving the players with playing survivor mode or training mode over and over again while waiting for online matches.

I am a Street Fighter fan. If you say fighting game, I think of Street Fighter. I don't play Tekken, Mortal Kombat or whatever other fighting games are out there, Street Fighter HAS been my fighting game since I was a kid. And it pains me to say that Capcom has failed me and fans like me who have been anticipating this game even since it was announced. I preordered it the first week it became available on the PS store for Christ's sake!

Despite having excellent gameplay I refuse to give this game even a 1, simply because this is not a game, it's a glorified demo. When the rest of the features arrive by June 2016 may be you can call it a full game.

Capcom's Street Fighter V represents everything wrong with the cash-grab gaming industry today. And the people here who do not see that and vote tens and nines are obviously paid off by Capcom. It would not be a first by a game studio , it certainly will not be the last.

The stills in the "story" mode almost make it feel a bit retro, the characters feel balanced and some of the clutter from Ultra Street Fighter 4 has been removed (I doubt I even played with over half the characters).

Playing against other people is so much more fun that the AI and you pick up things playing against other opponents you may not discover in training mode, unless you want to spend hours watching other people play on YouTube - something I do not have the luxury of time to do.

I have not experienced any issues with the servers personally - too busy with work the day of launch and during the week.. but every major online game these days tends to have server issues for the first few days. My experience so far has only been a minority of people quitting in the second or third round when the fight's not going their way.

This weekend I spend £12 watching Deadpool for 2 hours, thoroughly enjoyed the film and it cost a hourly rate of entertainment of £6. I have already had 10 hours worth of entertainment out of Street Fighter V as the gameplay and online has been so enjoyable - so it's already working out better value for money.. £3.80 a hour and it will only get cheaper over time..

Not enough? Arcade mode, trials, and an expansive Story Mode will also be added in a title update for free in the future, so the game is in no shortage of single player content. Not now, and not in the future.

Incase you are wondering why it sounds like the game was released "early", the answer is real simple. Capcom did it for the fans. They did it for the community. They released the game early so that people can get the practice in, and so people can participate in the Capcom Pro Tour and Evo.

Worried about having to pay for new characters and costumes? Don't worry, all the "DLC" will be unlockable in-game without ever having to spend a dime, just like in the old PS2 days before DLC.

This is a game that is going to be supported, both by capcom and the fans, for the next 6 to 7 years. You will never have to worry about the community dying on you.

This is clearly an unfinished product, with too many bugs as well as so few features not worthing its 60 bucks + 10 extra to play multiplayer, and with no arcade mode. Seems that they'v been walking with ubi soft guys that developed assassins creed unity...

Absolutely horrible game. This feels like it should've been closer to $20-$30 than full retail. It simply is incomplete and good lord the single player is absolute garbage! This has got to be one of the most barebones releases I've ever seen, I keep seeing the usual fanboy excuses such as "more content is coming later" which isn't good enough. When a game is released it should have at least some form of content, this is just pathetic.

An absolute disgrace of a game, even for Capcom this is a new low.

Capcom keeps saying that they've fixed the problem (I've lost count of how many times they've come up with BS on their twitter account in response to player complaints) and yet most people are STILL having server issues. Another problem with the game is that it does not punish rage-quitters. If a person quits before the game has a chance to record the result, this result does not count - either for the winner or loser, which totally sucks. The game really does feel like a half-finished product that was rushed to release. Shame on Capcom for this and shame on the reviewers (IGN - I'm looking at YOU!) who mislead their readers into thinking that they were getting a game that worked when they parted with their hard earned $60! Every Street Fighter has offered something different to the experience. The series has been fine tuning the mechanics for a long time offering fighting game fans some of the best gameplay out of any series and Street Fighter V does not disappoint.

What is offered in the game:

Story Mode - Story Mode has a focus on what it says it is, Story. Not a lot of battles, but more story than any Street Fighter game has had to date. For those that mostly just play the games and never look at outside material it is especially good since it clarifies on key points in the story that had been missing previously. It also gives details on the new characters. Instead of being cinematic it goes back to the roots with art work and text boxes, but in this case you also have voice acting. It leaves a lot opened for the Story being added in June and Capcom has already absorbed me into it.

Survival Mode - Instead of classic Arcade Mode for the single player experience, you get Survival Mode. It has four difficulty modes. Easy which has you go through 10 battles, Medium which has 30, Hard which has 50, and Hell which has 100. After each battle you can use some of your points to increase health or other stats. Double Down on the other hand is the opposite, spend a few points to take a hit in hopes of multiplying your score the next round. The overall focus of this is to get you used to not depending on the increases and instead improving each time so that you can finish with a higher score. Of course this is more about self improvement. Beating Easy will also unlock outfit color 3 for the outfit of the character you are using. Beating Medium will unlock 4-6 and Hard 7-10 and Hell unlocks a new Title.

Training Mode - Best part about training mode on top of being able to set the CPU to whichever difficulty you prefer, you can now set it up so the AI has limited health. Meaning that you can train against the AI in a round base like format. This feature is really useful if you want to try and figure out how to beat your worst matchup with a character.

VS Mode - Classic Player vs Player. Like in the old school games, no option to verse the CPU. An odd decision as all versions of Street Fighter IV had an option to do so.

When connected to the Capcom Network completing Story Mode and all the Survival Modes gets you EXP and Fight Money. You actually get quite a bit from completing these modes despite a finite amount. I already have enough for the first 4 DLC characters and I have yet to finish all of Survival.

One issue is if the online network loses connection, you do get kicked from the mode you are playing and have to start over if it is Survival. Story Mode featuring only two to four fights per character allows you to jump straight back in without any real concern. You also cannot earn EXP or FM offline.

As it is now, I have yet to really stop playing this game. I have not done any ranked or casual online matches, but I have played a few rounds in the Battle Lounge. Online could still use improvements, but everyday it gets better and Capcom is watching and working hard to fix issues as they come. You can still play all the single player modes offline if the network is not stable.

I really like the game as it is. Solid gameplay and a good amount of content. You have to want to improve to take full advantage of all the content offered, but that is true of any game out there, especially fighting games.

March however is going to start adding more content. Alex can be gotten from the Store which will be open then for 100,000 FM or you can buy him roughly for $5.00. I recommend just completing Story Mode which only takes about 2 hours if you want the story. Only about 5 minutes if you skip the story and just do the fights. That will net you 160,000 FM and Alex is yours. Some recommend getting the Season Pass, but I am taking full advantage of the FM I can obtain from Single Player Modes. This also does not include FM gained from Challenges which unlocks next month and is also Free update to all players. In fact any game changing update is Free unlike the Street Fighter IV going into Super, AE and then Ultra. Meaning the first copy is the only copy you ever need to own. Plus all characters through future updates will be able to be bought with FM which is earned by playing the game. The better you get the more FM you can earn. Of course improving your game will be easier starting in March when you have access to the character Trials.

The server issues are real. They were not resolved during the beta and continue to plague the final release. Matchmaking is slow, general server connectivity is suspect, the game is skimpy on single player content, and survival is the most functional mode in the game but lacks worthwhile in-game rewards. All of these are major defects, but ultimately SF V is a fighting game and the fighting is excellent. If you invite some friends over and play some 1 on 1 you'll have a good time. The gameplay is the rewarding part of Street Fighter V and requires skill to master while remaining fun. With that said, even button mashers will have a good time as long as they're playing another button masher. I've played Street Fighter since the first game and the fighting in this game is the best it has ever been. The V-Trigger system, balancing, and accessibility tweaks make the gameplay feel complete. I pre-ordered and I'm disappointed with the mostly everything except the fighting - but that's why I bought it in the first place. In today's gaming landscape where shipping broken ass games are the trend, this ranks fairly high on the list. But it seems, Capcom focused its resources on gameplay for the Street Fighter community and figured to fix everything else in the upcoming months. Wait a month for the sorely needed single player content if you're frustrated by poor online execution or don't have friends to play with locally and then jump on in. Expand

People who buy the game should just be able to insert disc and enjoy it, not have to wait for more characters, fair enough if there was decent amount to start with. Also the character roster SUCKS. Period. There are no two ways about it. I have been a SF fan since 2, and played every game since, including Alpha, EX, and 4 and HDRemix. This has the second worst roster after 3, - and even 3 was updated to INCLUDE AKUMA. How can Tekken 7 have arguably one of the most popular and best characters from SF universe, and SF5 make such a major omission?! I dont even like Tekken that much, but game already seems to have more content and look better with the addition of SF Badass Akuma. This is ridiculous, the only reason 4 was as successful was Capcom had the sense to include the original 2 turbo cast plus popular additions from Alpha and 3, hence many casual and loyal fans returned to play the series once again with cast members they loved. Capcom tried to cater to the Tournament crowd, which realistically makes less than 5% of their total sales (Based on assumptions of wanting to sell 2M) and have ended up releasing a UNFINISHED BARE BONES PRODUCT.
Capcom with SF4 released a FULL game with decent amount of characters and content, where new and old players could have fan favorites, since then they have made huge steps backwards, basically releasing a glorified demo, with major issues such as:
    - No Arcade Mode
    - No proper' story mode upon release
    - No VS. Mode against CPU
    - Small Character Roster
    - Small stage selections (Only 10 - Street fighter 4 had 17)
    - Major omissions of Fan Favourites (I.e Akuma, Sagat, ect)
    - No Trial mode to teach players how to do combos for any characters
    - Removal of pre-fight animations/ bonus stages (car, barrel) and all extras
    - Can not unlock extra content (such as costume colours and taunts) through single player mode till dlc.
    - Catering to Tournament players, and no emphasis on Single player content for long time fan of the series.

People who defend SF5 are just allowing Capcom to release less and less content under the premise of a 'game' and charge full retail. Mortal Kombat and Tekken have been releasing games with lots of content and have never deserted their most popular characters in major titles or released games with such small rosters/ features. (Imagine Tekken without Heihachi). Also how can it not include arcade mode? A series staple and expected of even the most basic of fighting games. Also removal of extras such as bonus stages (car and barrel, removing pre-fight character animations, trials ect). This may be called Street fighter 5 but has even less features, content and characters than their last entry of the series. They should have stuck to SF4 formula, bring back lots of fan favourites and then gone from there! - If it aint broken dont fix it, - they risked it with SF3 and then look what happened?! - You would have thought they would have learned form that. Overall Capcom has disappointed the majority of their fanbase, and I sincerely recommend not purchasing this until later where more content available to stop you feeling like you paid full price for a demo! Overall a poor release, and a sad day in the Street fighter Franchise.

The mechanics are on-point, but that is as far as it goes. Capcom got together the minimum amount of content that hardcore fans would accept, and spat it out on the market.

16 characters is on the smaller side for a modern full-priced fighting game, but not completely unheard of. The new characters are very hit-and-miss, with a couple that seem like good fits, and the other couple seem out of place. The characters' models are pretty well detailed, but the backgrounds are cookie-cutter boring (and filled with dumb stereotypes). Going along with the backgrounds are the background characters which are absolutely dreadful looking.

As said, the mechanics are great, and seem to be a good, small twist on SF's tried and true style. However, I was never able to test them out against an opponent due 2 hours of matchmaking leading to 0 battles. I had thought the MKX launch server issues were the worst possible outcome, but Capcom seemed eager to prove me wrong.

With no online matches available, the only other things to do are some horribly meaningless battles in a "prologue" for each character (so meaningless you can just press start and choose to skip them), and training. However, the training is as barebones as possible. Training has no challenges (Capcom claims they'll be implemented in March) and there is no information given on the movelist (e.g. hitbox info, properties, etc) other than the buttons used to perform a move.

Capcom promises more content to come "soon," but as I have learned from MvC3 and SFxT, Capcom doesn't deserve any trust in regards to promises made to encourage people to buy their games. As it is, the game doesn't have half of what a fighting game should have, and what it does have simply does not work. Please do not buy this game and encourage this type of shameful behavior from developers.

No arcade mode, shat servers crappy story mode no 8 player lobbies. FU Capcom. Never again will I support this shat and no more pre-orders. I'll wait till Ultra super hyper turbo alpha street fighter V finally finished edition is available for dlc then I will repurchase again.

One of the best games ever, worth $60, has loads of fun content worth hours of entertainment, and has more you can pay for on the way. Love the way Capcom treats their loyal fans. If I could give this game higher than a 10/10 I would! This game is gonna give me a lot of fun for years to come. 99999/10

Despite a rough first day the game is working perfectly now. Don't get too caught up in the negativity dog pile, the game is silky smooth and the online is the best ever seen in a fighting game.

THERE so many winner on the critic. They had probably no idea of what they were buying.
The game in a neutral opinion.

Story mode can be played on any difficulty level and gave a new color on each level to each caractere. ( easy, normal, .. ) Story is short for each caractere, but will grow in the futur.

The online mode works good 2 days after release. The new 4 fighters laura, necalli, rashid and f.a.n.g, are great. It has a catchy soundtrack and nice graphics. Sure it has less to offer contentwise at the moment. Also it is a shame that there is no arcade mode in it from the start. It' s undeniable that 60 bugs are much for just a few basic game modes.

  1. There’s a great game in Street Fighter V, but only if you’re willing to learn the hard way. Capcom will need more than the few thousand competitors following the Capcom Pro Tour to make this game, and the series as a whole, sustainable for the future.

Everything that I didn’t like about SFIV is gone, leaving a deep yet easy to grasp, spectacular game. [04/2016, p.34]

Despite simplistic single-player and feeble tutorials, SFV is a completely essential fighting game. [Apr 2016, p.70]
