It's wrong to give this a score lower than 7.5, as it is an excellent game. It's like Titanfall. Everything is excellent and different, but there's a slight lack of content.

absolutely stunning game, dont understand where the hate comes from, only reason that it isn't a 10 is the lack of single player modes such as the missing of galactic conquest, a personal favourite of mine from the original battlefronts.

In supremacy, it is absolute madness outdoing the ground war mode of call of duty. Almost everything in this beats call of duty as a first person shooter, maps are huge, vehicles are more useable. Very easy to see that this game is developed by the same guys as battlefield but just fantastic

No weapons are blatantly more over powered and remarks that it is dominated by those who play a lot more is rubbish, you may get killed a few times and they will pop up top of the leaderboard but there's plenty of chances to get your own back.

The complaint of the DLC is also ridiculous, I'm not buying it because I don't have too! The game is good enough as it is, the complaint is just people being petty and not playing the game as it should be played, a first person shooter with actual gameplay in mind.

Perfect for those who love their Star Wars and FPS's, best shooter of 2015 and best shooter of mine for years to come, mind this is very much my opinion and my wantings in a game, very multiplayer based but it's so good and diverse it washes away the lack of single player modes. I cannot see myself going back to Black Ops 3 for a long long time

Also people complain about it not having more advanced features that modern shooters often have, but I personally think that it reduces the ridiculous amount of overpowering force an advanced player can bring to bear against someone new to the game. Someone at level 50 can be brought down by a new player if the new player knows what they are doing.

Some games are imbalanced which is why I gave it a 9, but on the other had I admire the tenacity which the system keeps you with the players you have been playing with through multiple games to bring about a sense of team...

The gameplay is very smooth, I love the fact that you can switch between third and first person, personally I chose third person but I can play either, third person just allows me to view the entire area much easier. There aren't many guns but there are more than enough, most people hate this game because of the lack of maps, lack of guns, but come on..it's star wars! What more did u expect? This is not a competitive game by any means once again, it is a FUN game though. I seriously could not stop playing it when I got it, played for a good 4 hours straight until I forced myself to stop playing Drop Zone.. anyways, this game is great for casual gamers, it looks beautiful and there are no bugs, at least from what I had played so far. This is the last time I trust reviews for games, these reviews did no justice, people tend to be really picky nowadays, sometimes I feel like they got paid to write a bad review LOL! Star Wars Battlefront is great. The graphics are immense, sound is top notch and the gameplay is incredibly smooth. Half of them are as bad as me and that makes it fun. EA have been adding more content over the months sinceStar Wars Battlefront is great. EA have been adding more content over the months since launch and the initial price tag has now been fully justified.

The lack of weapon customisation and small gains obtained from upgrading star cards I see as overall very positive because it ensures the most hardcore gamers don't get big advantages over those who don't have so much to play. It maintains some level of balance, keeps matches close and engaging. The hero power ups enable even the worst players to get a load of kills and top the table at the end of the match. The training and single player missions are a very good way to practice before jumping into the online matches and I am very glad they are there.

Overall Star Wars Battlefront is one of the best games I have ever played and receives a well deserved 9/10 from me. This is a game I can see myself playing for a long time to come. I can't wait for the DLC!

    Negatives:

That said, the graphics are amazing. I find myself wanting to just watch the background sometimes, or investigate the far corners of the map just to see what is there. Beautiful, almost like moving artwork.

The gameplay can be extremely satisfying, and I’m no FPS pro. I’m a veteran of games like Doom and Halo, but never was good at ‘twitchy’ games like Battlefront or Call of Duty. Perseverance does pay off, with better side arms and accessories, and with gameplay experience that translates to a better understanding of why and how to attack a mission. That perspective gives a better gameplay experience than just running to the front, shooting, and dying, over and over. I’m a stats guy, and though mine are not good – I still take pride in improvement, and the fun moment of a plan being executed.
Some missions will be more fun depending on the gameplay experience you want to have. Too much run and gun? Try Extraction or Cargo Run, where stealth can pay dividends. Playing as the heroes is always fun, though difficult at times. And the Starfighter battles are good. Not great – like the old X-Wing and TIE Fighter games on PC. They tend to be a big fur ball, like an old cartoon, but it’s still fun to drop in on every once in a while.
If you like Star Wars, and like FPS at all, you will love playing Battlefront. Until you get hosed 1kill-9deaths in a mission. Then you will decide how much you like it – and do you want to improve. There is no wrong answer there, and I do look forward to a full single player in the next SW Battlefront.

The vast majority of negative reviews, by journalist and gamers, talk about what the game lacks. Now yes, DICE and EA put the Battlefront franchise tag on this game, which is just asking for trouble. But they have also asserted that this game was made predominantly for Star Wars fans. So in trying to please as much as possible both camps, Star Wars fans who may have never played FPS games like COD, Battlefield/Front, Destiny, CS:GO, etc. and those hard core FPS folks who can shoot a pebble off a stormtrooper's helmet @ 100 yds.

But the game is what it is, so let's address these negatives that have been voiced and I'll dismiss them one by one:

Lack of variety in terms of characters and weapons and vehicles. This is a silly remark, because it's Star Wars. So, no...there aren't any orcs or bows and arrows or motorcycles or combat knives. In fact, DICE has done a wonderful job pushing the envelope to actually create variety that really isn't in the Star Wars movie library. Yes, the expanded universe has a lot more going on, but about half of the weapons in the game were created from whole cloth by DICE to give just as much variety as possible. So no, you can't say a Halo game is shallow because don't ride a horse in it.

Next is the lack of a solo campaign. This is a game featuring multiplayer combat, but it's not just that...there is plenty of solo content as well. But again, that's not the focus of the game, that you're playing a one-person Star Wars adventure game. You're complaining about something. So next time you play Tetris, please don't complain about the lack of RPG elements.

Variety of missions...not counting the training missions there's 21 of them. So be quiet.

There isn't any content missing here. It is what it is. It's a Star Wars combat game, that is the most faithful, true Star Wars game EVER made. If you're looking for something else, then go play that and give that game a review based on what that type of game is supposed to deliver, but don't give this game RED scores because it's not the game you would have made.

So why don't I give this more than an 8? Well, there are times the game isn't fun. Being sniped by someone you never saw gets old fast. There are too many power ups that are overpowered, given that you can after a few ranks have your own arsenal with you. Getting plastered by proximity mines and other things over and over makes the combat low on the actual skill side and more on winning the power up lottery. I'd replace a lot of the weapon power ups with recharge pick ups.

The fighter combat is underdeveloped, giving artificial restraints on when you can do evasive maneuvers or when you can shoot a missile and the range of speed the fighters have is very limited, and doing it in cockpit mode is just suicide, in my opinion. In Walker Assault, air supremacy, especially when you're the Rebels is a big key to winning, and air combat is very hit and miss.

So there are some parts of what the game actually is that has me frustrated given how it could have been done better, but again, I think when you try to please everyone, well, you know the rest.

But no...this isn't a poor game that deserves a bad score, it is a labor of love, that yeah...maybe could have used a few more months of work and maybe some more content on release, but it was clearly scheduled to be released prior to holiday gift buying season and before a certain movie comes out on Dec 18.

So next time, DICE/EA....call the game Star Wars Wars and the Battlefront/COD fanboys won't drive down your metacritic score.

And for you FPS snobs out there...the dark side leads to suffering, yo.

There are only two cons that I really have with the game. The first is of course the DLC policy of EA. The second is the real lack of customization within the game. There are a decent amount of weapons and star cards but there could always be more. It would be really nice to have some modable weapons like a different scope or slightly better damage for less accuracy type of thing.

The real problem with the customization is with the player appearance. It would have been nice to be able to unlock say, a scout troopers helmet and stick it on a snow trooper's armor. Really, I would have been really happy with the ability to put markings and paint on the stormtrooper's armor and to switch up what your rebel is wearing a little. All you can do is change the face of the person which is a real shame.

In the end this really is a good game. It is balanced and bug free which is rare to say of many AAA games coming out these days. The graphics are amazing, even on a console, and the gameplay is solid. Its getting low scores mostly because of the DLC (which is somewhat justified) and butthurt ppl who just wanted a clone of battlefront 2.

The maps are straightforward with enough complexity.

The gameplay is great, it's fun, addicting, not too hard to learn, the heroes and villains are great and so are the ships (if you have trouble flying them, invert Y axis, it helps a lot) the music and sound effects are simply PERFECT and the graphics are fantastic, DICE really nailed the star wars aesthetic here. The multiplayer in Battlefront is great, the best modes are Supremacy, Walker Assault, Hero's vs Villains and Fighter squadron.

Now this game isn't perfect, it DESPERATELY NEEDS the capability to do split-screen while in online multiplayer, that would be fantastic. There isn't enough offline content, the ability to play the online modes while offline against bots would fix that. There needs to be MORE planets/maps and heroes, it's disappointing that we are getting them in an overpriced season pass.

Now, is this game worth it's price?? If you love star wars and want a fun shooter that feels like star wars the YESSSS this is worth it. If you don't / kind of like star wars then i would not recommend this, the star wars feel just wont be for you. YES the game needs more content, NO this is not a bad game. Good multiplayer fun, the modes will hopefully be expanded and some of them are not tremendously fun but some are great i.e supremacy, walker assault, dropzone etc.

Really got the Star Wars feel spot on, amazing graphics and sound.

Fun gameplay, it's not COD/battlefield level of sophistication but it's a reasonably level playing field and easy to pick up and play whilst also being open to players developing skill sets.

The lack of a campaign and solo play is not a factor for me, that is why I play the likes of MGS, Witcher etc so I purchased this game for multiplayer action which is what I have got.

Overall I can understand the complaints and I would have preferred a complete game up front rather than a ton of add ons through DLC. The guys complaining that air combat is too easy should figure out how to take it to the next level and the same with the rest of the game play imo. My conclusion is that it is a good game which might become great with updates, I've enjoyed it so far and am not bored after a couple of weeks.

Its a decent game, pretty much fun and it does well to the part where you get the feeling the Star Wars universe.

BUT although i would like to see more player friendly options, like a squad, like vehicles where multiple people can enter and also more destruct-able environment (see battlefield 4) The game looses a big deal on the Price - content sector. They stripped the game to

The game looses a big deal on the Price - content sector. They stripped the game to basics just to sell DLCs and Expansions. Just like it happened with Destiny. This is pure BAD MARKETING if you ask me and its a SHAME for a company with a big name like EA DICE to behave like this to the customers. I hope they will listen to the community and give at least some free content.

If they would have packaged the DLC, new maps and modes I think this would have been revived better critically. It's a lot of fun but not a lot of content. I'm having a hard time paying $100 for barely a $60.00 game. In the end I'll cave because who wants to miss out on getting the "whole game".

Battlefront is a very good looking game with excellent graphics and textures in addition it is very fun to play.
However the game lacks content in regards to maps, single player and no space battles.

It's not the most complex shooter, but it's the ideal pick-up-and-play experience for Star Wars fans. Stunning environments, solid shooting and immersive sound design mask the shortcomings. [Jan 2016, p.82]

With the new film of the space opera saga finally on the big screen and the release of Battlefront's new sequel, both after a decade overdue, it is definitely the best time to be a Star Wars fan. The game itself is a dream-come-true for fans, and the Star Wars spectacle is strong in this one. However, if it is depth and longevity you seek... this is not the game you are looking for.

Spectacular production values help to make this game enjoyable in the early going, but it soon enough shows that it is painfully lacking in terms of maps and depth in its current form. [Issue#265, p.72]
