The graphics are amazing, the sound as good as we expect from a Star Wars game, it's fun, has an almost flawless framerate and DICE nailed the Star Wars atmosphere. On the other hand, the amount of content is ridiculously low, but this has to do with EA, who will sell the second half of the game for the full price...again, and not with DICE.

    + Almost flawless 60fps.

    - 900p is not acceptable for current standards.
    - lacks content. Where are the space battles, all those iconic planets from the saga, the bots in multiplayer, the campaign, etc???
    - I'm not a fan of this new item based way to get vehicles. It's alot more immersive to have the ability to enter an hangar and jump to a vehicle. DICE have been doing this for years in Battlefield games, so why the step back?!

All in all, and while it's far from perfect, SW Battlefront is an excelent experience for all Star Wars fans.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this game. Anyway, here's what you get in the base game.

4 Maps: They say you get more but that's total BS. It's 4 maps that and sections are cutoff and tweaked a little for small game modes

3 Offline modes: Training - basically a tutorial but every game mechanic gets it's own quick little mission. Survival - you basic survival mode that you can play with a buddy offline, it gets real boring after one play though. Battle - You can fight a friend offline which can be fun if you're both similar skill levels, otherwise it's basically just beat up your friend who doesn't own the game mode.

Character Customization: You can purchase a new head from a somewhat ethnically diverse selection with in-game points. The higher your level, you can unlock and purchase (in-game credits) one of the 3 hair styles for each head. Get near the high levels you can get a scout trooper, shadow trooper skin for the empire and a handful of different alien head for the rebels.

9 Multiplayer Mods: There is suppose to be one more coming as well with the free dlc. So there actually is quite a few game modes, but you'll probably spend most of your time in Supremacy or Walker Assault. If you like dogfighting there is a mode just for star fighters where you jump into a big mess and shot down AI and Humies.

I feel like we are giving EA a little too much flack for having a season pass since that has pretty much been the standard in AAA games for a while now. At least this one you're likely to get quite a bit of content in the DLCs. The big question of course is, how much of that should have been in the base game? More than what's there but the game is pretty, it's star wars and it's kind of fun so like a moth to the flame I go.

Unfortunately the overall customization is lacking and so is single player content. The old Star Wars Battlefront games on the PS2 and Xbox had an amazing single player campaign that is missing entirely here which is a massive shame!

Another thing to note is that the season pass is an absolute rip off not worth the £40 price tag, especially when you have already paid £45 for the game itself. The content that will be released as DLC (mainly maps) should have been included in the original game right from the start.

Its great to venture into the Star Wars world but quite disappointing that the content out of the box is lacking.

We can now drop Star Wars: Battlefront II and start playing this game, on the new generation - right? Or does this game not live up to the standard that is Battlefront? Read this review to find out!

We can now drop Star Wars: Battlefront II and start playing this game, on the new generation - right? Or does this game not live up to the standard that is Battlefront? Read this review to find out!

    A: Music/Sounds

Oh my god! I can not get over how amazing the sounds and music are in this game. Every shot from a blaster, the footsteps of a Stormtrooper - heck, even the lightning from Darth Sidious himself! If you get flashbanged, you feel like you really have been in real life! What I'm trying to say, is that the sounds of this game is perfect. The only issue is some of the voice acting. The voices for the Stormtroopers sound a little strange, and Darth Vader can say a few quirky quotes. But all of that can be forgiven. The quality of the sounds - from a Tie Fighter to a Grenade never disappoints in this game. Not to mention the amazing original Star Wars Music which everyone loves. With the sounds, you will not be disappointed.

10/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

    B: Graphics

Much like the sounds, the graphics are quite possibly the best out of any Star Wars game ever. Heck, the graphics in this game are the best that I have ever seen out of any game, ever. I'm not even exaggerating here. The next-gen capabilities that this game shows off is magnificent. If you're on Endor, the detail that has gone into every little plant and tree does not go unnoticed. On Sullust, the amazing detail of the rocks and lava add to the atmosphere. The Stormtroopers are almost exactly like the movies. Absolutely perfect - the only issue is some of the character faces (No, I'm not talking about the heroes) the human faces of the Rebels/Stormtroopers do look a little undetailed, and stick out like a sore thumb in this game.

10/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

    C: Gameplay

This is probably the part of the game that is done worst - besides story. The fluid gunplay and combat is perfect, but the game itself is a bit lacking. With 4 different environments that you can play on, it gets old pretty quickly. Out of the 9 (Or so) modes, most of them will be very small - and you probably will play them once, then never again. Most of the guns feel almost exactly the same, and there is only 11 guns! But the Star Cards make your character a little more unique. No more picking classes like you did in Star Wars: Battlefront II, you make your own class. And don't even get me started on the heroes. They're amazing! No matter who you play as, from Han Solo to Emporer Palpatine, they always feel unique. And no matter what level the enemy is, you will always be able to dominate them with a good Lightsaber Strike or Lightning Strike. And unlike Battlefront II, each of the Heroes have much different playstyles. Half the heroes in Battlefront II were basically just different skins. Unfortunately, there are only 6 heroes total - which is a little disappointing, to say the least. Considering this is EA, there is obviously going to be a horrid amount of DLC. And I'm not wrong - before the game even released, they dropped the bomb on a $75 AUD season pass. No one is a fan of DLC, but EA is the worst offender of it. At least EA stated that there will be free DLC down the track, like the Battle of Jakku - but it probably won't be as good as the paid DLC.

    6/10

    D: Online

Now this is where the game truly stands out. Well, stands out at all in that matter. There are literally 3 different modes on Singleplayer - just don't bother. If you aren't going to play online, don't buy the game. You can't even play a nice game of Walker Assault by yourself and some bots. Now with online, it is pretty good, but not much to point out here. They have some pretty good matchmaking here on the PS4, but lag seems to be frequent for me. I might be playing as a hero, dominating some bad guys - but then the lag kicks in and it disables my controls (That is what automatically happens when the connection is really bad) the only problem is that everyone else still has their controls, and seem to be able to shoot pretty fluently. And then, you just die. It can really be frustrating, after finally finding that hero powerup after so long - or going still in the middle of a firefight. The Online matches can get pretty annoying, as you almost die instantly. But that can also be a good thing - it allows you to mow down enemies and feel really good about yourself - but then again it can get really freaking annoying when you die constantly. Like I said before, if you don't want to play this game online, do NOT buy it.

    7/10

    E: Story

There is no story, unlike Battlefront: II. It wasn't much of a bummer for me, as I never played the campaign on Star Wars: Battlefront II but I'm just pointing it out for anyone else.

    0/10

So in the end, is this game worth it? Well, it depends. Are you in for repetitive playing and Online only - not to mention a huge Star Wars fan? Yes!

    Ahh... Battlefront...I missed you...

The third game in the series is great! Not perfect, but great. So let's get this going. The game has nine gamemodes, enough for someone like me who is playing only 6 of them. Multiplayer is really good and sometimes actually challenging... but there are times when the game is just to easy, once you get the best weapon, you are unstoppable.

Supremacy: It's basiclly conquest mode from Battlefield 4, it's a 20vs20 game mode where players need to capture 5 "flags" (as I like to call them) and they can use pretty much every vechicle in the game. My favorite gamemode.

Cargo: Cargo is a smaller Supremacy mode with cargo boxes instead of "flags". I don't like it that much.

Droid Run: 6vs6 match where players need to capture three GNK Power Droids. Do I need to say more?

Walker Assault: 40vs40 match where Rebels need to destroy AT-AT's and Imperials need to defend them. The mode is really unbalanced and I would not recommend playing it (as a Rebel at least).

Blast: Classic 10vs10 deathmatch. Nothing to add really.

Drop Zone: Escape pods are crashing into the planet and you need to capture them. Propably one of my favorite gamemodes.

Heroes Vs Villains: Like the title says, Heroes (Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo) Vs Villains (Darth Vader, The Emperor and Boba Fett). Overall it's a fun mode and can be really frustrating when playing as some of the characters (Especially Leia, Han Solo and Boba Fett) but it's still a very good gamemode and would recommend to play it.

Hero Hunt: 7 Rebels/Imperials vs 1 Hero/Villain. Your objective is to kill the Special Character and when you do so you turn into him and have to kill others, simple as that.

Gameplay: So the game is simple, you shoot with blasters and sometimes can get into a vechicle or become a Special Character. The gameplay is really solid and is a lot of fun, I played this game for 40h and i'm still not bored of it! It's a really simple shooter that even casuals can play. Unfortunatly some modes (Walker Assault) are really unbalanced and need to be fixed. But still, no matter what the gameplay is great.

Singleplayer: So this game doesn't really have a campaign. BUT! it has survival modes that you can play alone, or even with a friend in the same room (Which is a rare thing these days). Survival modes are repetetive and the main objective is basiclly to survive 15 waves. I don't like it and it's boring, even with friends. But there is also Hero Battles which you can play alone, or again with a friend in the same room. It's basiclly Heroes Vs Villains but two players only. I love it and spent 5h just in this mode.

Multiplayer: I talked about it already, it's great and I love it.

DLC: I didn't want to talk about it but you really need to know this if you haven't watched reviews. Game is lacking content, modes are rehashed and not original. Developers (DICE) said they would bring the rest of the content in a DLC, here's the problem. The season pass costs 50$, is it worth the price? We will see. One thing I respect though is how DICE WILL give out free DLC, actually they announced one free map for december already! I can't be mad but 50$ is a little too much in my honest opinion.

Conclusion: The game is great but has many, maany flaws. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. It's great and I have tons of fun in it. Althrough it's worse than the previous Battlefronts, I still like it and I will propably play it all the time. 7/10 (No, It's not a bad score, it's above average)

An enjoyable Star Wars Multiplayer Experience. The Content level is definitely low with only 4 Battlegrounds and no Campaign. The worst Thing is that this Game has no Story whatsoever but it has great Gameplay and Shooter Elements. The Price is just too high for Battlefront. What remains is an enjoyable Shooter Experience with a nice Star Wars Sauce.

Multiplayer - Now for a game focused mainly on an online and multiplayer experience it could've done way better. I occasionally found myself and an opponent killing each other at the same time which happened way too frequently, and as for grenades, i usually get killed by at least once a few seconds before spawning. Now the biggest problems i had are the Blasters Lack of variety feel. Its like you have your basic LMG, Assault Rifle, and Pistol. Each barley having any noticeable difference. the sights are also a bit too plain if you ask me..

As for the solo or co-op experience - Ive only played survival with some friends and it seems to work well if there is anything i could say about it is it could've added a bit more variety and strategy for the enemy A.I.

Customization - ok for this Category im going to keep it short.
Lets be Honest who really wants to be an imperial and have human faces all the good trooper helmets and types are unlockable but at a high level of around 40 to 50 maybe even 60.
Same goes for Rebels wouldn't you rather be a different Race besides all these human iterations? i mean you can unlock them but its going to take a lot of leveling up.

The progression isn't as capturing or motivating until the you start reaching higher levels. But overall the gameplay is Fun even if its not as deep as it could be. Which is where being a fan kind of covers up the bad aspects. The best Thing i can say about the game though is the Graphics are sooooo beautiful to look at!

The lack of story kills it tho - I love story based games - the story usually makes the judgement call. Then the modes. I do not care. I like a game for gameplay, and while a bunch of modes is nice, the ones packed are great. And people who argue about the amount of maps are weird - LOOK AT THE MAPS. The maps look so amazing, I bet most of the development time went into them. Now the multiplayer. Hate it. I'm not a big fan of multiplayer, but here it is something like this
1)You spawn in the middle of a battle and die.
2)You spawn at the other side of the map, and spend 2 minutes going to the battle, and then die.

Despite the currently unfavorable reviews, this is truly not a terrible game. I think people should understand 2 things when buying this game, which in my opinion are the two big negatives that people are really upset about:

    1) This is not going to be the same experience you had with the previous battlefront games 10 years ago. Quit simply, this game currently does not play like the previous ones did. There is no classic 'conquest' mode to it-while 'supremacy' is similar, the way its set up causes the game to not flow like the old battlefront did at all. There is no strategy really in terms of attacking-no flanking, nothing like that. In supremacy (which seems to be the mode most people play) at any one time there is at most 2 bases in play-they will be bases that are right next to each other, so there is a constant 'front line' effect (where everybody is fighting in the same spot), which essentially rules out any real tactics that would be involved. I think most people who were very excited for this game to come out were people who previously played this game and wanted it to essentially be like the older games with larger maps, more maps, and better graphics. You won't get that, this will be an overall different FPS experience. The air combat seems to be pretty bad. I prefer to run around and shoot as opposed to flying an x-wing or whatever, however even I noticed that the flying is pretty bad. I would also say that currently the game modes that involve 'heroes' are not so fun. For Battlefront 2, the Mos Eisley hero fight was epic fun. It's not quite the same on this.

    2) EA, in classic style, is trying to get as much money out of this as they can. In doing so, the game that is currently on the market is incomplete. That is the main reason this game is getting bad reviews. In a year this game will be a 9/10. However, the game that is currently on the market only has maps on 4 planets; Hoth, Endor, Tatooine and Sullust (a world thats important in the expanded universe of star wars but never in the movies). There are only currently 6 heroes-Luke, Vader, Leia, Jango Fett, the Emporer and Han Solo. When you consider that the previous game (which came out 10 years ago) had more hero options-thats quite annoying. There seems to be a lack of game modes, but again, the lack of game modes, heroes, and maps will all be resolved when more expansions come out. However, you will end up paying anywhere from $50-$80 for these expansions, which is bad and we as a gaming community should not support these practices.

While I've ranted a bit about the negatives, it's time for some good things about this game. The graphics are stunning. Probably the best I've seen in a FPS ever. Also, the gameplay is incredibly smooth. I've experienced no lag, no servers crashing, nothing of the sort, even once. I personally find the controls intuitive and once you get the hang of the style of this game, I find myself generally being one of the top 3-4 players each match, having an absolute blast jumping around in my jet pack, using my ion shots to blow up turrets or piss of people who are in vehicles. The game can be great, mindless fun. While I've read some reviews that rip on the upgrades and customization-I think those are actually pretty good. You have a dozen guns to choose from, you can purchase like 100 different outfits your character (depending on level), and they added an option where you can essentially have a special ability (For me I shoot ion bullets) which adds another element to the game completely. The maps that are there are good, which gives me faith that newer ones that come out will be good as well. You can also run around and pick up upgrades, which adds another element. You never know if that grenade that landed next to you is just a thermal detonator or thermal imploder, or whether you are being locked by a homing shot or an infantry turret.

If you will only be satisfied with this new Battlefront if it plays like the previous ones, I would say do not purchase. It will not be with your time or disappointment that this is a different game. I would also say that if money is an issue for you at all that I would wait a year or so to purchase. All of the expansions will probably be on a single disc that will be only $60 by then. However, if you have an open mind (sounds kinda lame I know), and simply love fun, first person shooters I say this is a decent purchase. You absolutely will enjoy playing this game, the graphics are stunning, the gameplay is incredibly smooth, the soundtrack is great, you will feel like you are in the world of star wars. However, shame on EA (or maybe us) for obviously using the Battlefront franchise to take as much money from people as possible. I think if they waited a little bit and released a complete version of this game, the sheer volume of people purchasing it would have given them more profit than the current state of people purchasing it, and then paying for upgrades.

With no single player offering, which I would have absolutely no problem with if the rest of the game had more content and substance, the game suffers from absolutely no signs of longevity present. The spawning system on most game types are horrendous, often putting you right back into the action that you recently died from. The only particularly good and interesting character skins can be unlocked from level 40 onwards, as if EA expected people to play 4 maps with possibly 3, 4 (at a push) fun game modes.

Speaking of EA, I wonder who's idea it was to add a season pass to this game which is the same price as the actual game. Does it sound like something EA would do? If releasing half a game and charging £50 for a season pass is the new way forward then I fear for future big releases.

Wait,I feel like I've said this before?

I am a mega star wars fan, I also love games, FPS inparticular, but this game sucks. Its simple, unlocks and customization is horrible, not enough maps, the gun selection is horrid. It was worth the purchase, having the extra money, for me to buy and play as a storm trooper a few times, maybe even again in the future, but its more of a nostalgia trip than a fun game.

Multiplayer - Overall it is not bad. They have continued to improve some of the earlier abused elements (Homing Shot) however the lack of more maps for bigger games is a turn off.

Campaign - The fact that one doesn't exist automatically gives this game a 5. You have the best source material in the world and you couldn't come up with a story about a regular old Rebel Solder... very lackluster.

However, my friend egged me on to buy it and even gave me some money to supplement the cost of the game. Sadly, even with the little bonus to offset the cost, I feel like this game is not worth the asking price.

Lets start off with the good stuff. It's beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. The character designs, sound effects, and level design all scream Star Wars. It will be an absolute delight for fans of the franchise to jump into and feel like they're part of the Galactic Civil War. Being able to play as a hero is even better, as you can turn the tide of the battle with the overwhelming power of fan favorites like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader - though personally, I find Boba Fett and Princess Leia to be even more overpowered.

But that's as high as the game floats above water. The abundant lack of features, no single-player, and ESPECIALLY the additional content hidden behind DLC paywalls are holes that flood this otherwise elaborate looking ship. The positives of the game are barely keeping it afloat, and playthroughs tend to be short and get boring fast.

It's not crap, but it's certainly far from great. For Star Wars fans, this is a relatively easy buy. For gamers, it's easily just as dismissible. Such a shame so much hype and graphical production got put into such a mediocre game.

However, what pieces there were from the old series that made the games so beloved were removed. The lack of a legitimate campaign mode is a big one as Star Wars: Battlefront II was on the verge of something with the story on the 501st. The beloved Galactic Conquest modes fails to make an appearance which is a big head scratcher. Finally, with no space battles or prequel era battles, this game leaves much to be desired and feels more like Battlefield than Star Wars Battlefront. While it was important for EA to make a unique reboot game, they did so too much and it feels they just made a game to cash in on the hype surrounding the new movie instead of legitimately trying to make a good game.

Clearly just attacking the game ... anyway, very good graphics, awesome sounds, a decent amount of content ( I still need to play Supremacy in MP and have not touched the co-op/single player missions yet other than the beta). Bottom line this is a fun casual shooter with good variety. A Star Wars fan's heaven. It is not a technical strategic shooter like Killzone especially with the lack of non party communication and call outs would be difficult at best on these maps. It is more strategic than any COD game though. You can't just run around stabbing people and killing everyone with one or 2 shots. My biggest complaint would probably be the lack of mic communication with the whole team. I do like the partner system like the fireteams in Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Also people saying this is Battlefield with a Star Wars skin are out to lunch as well. It may get boring if you play it relentlessly hours a day for 6 months but what game wouldn't. I am still playing Killzone 2 years later and it had 17 maps in the end. This will end up with 25 if you get all the season pass stuff. Not happy about the $80 price for that in Canada but I will probably shell out for it because I think the fun to be had will justify that. Watch some streams and ask people you know who have actually played it but do not listen to MORONS rating this a zero. It would be like giving Wolfenstein: The New Order a zero because it lacked multiplayer. Solid 8/10 Expand

It’s been just more than 10 years since the last Star Wars Battlefront title released for the Playstation 2 and Xbox, and fans have been waiting ages to jump back into the shoes of Rebel or Imperial scum.

Electronic Arts and DICE have answered the call, and the end result is absolutely stunning. 2015’s Battlefront focuses on the original trilogy of films, pulling characters, weapons and vistas from Episodes IV, V and VI. And that’s the first thing players will notice, that this game is very much set in the Star Wars universe.

The game modes are unique and each offer a specific challenge, but there isn’t much variety. Aside from objective-based modes like “Droid Run,” where players escort a Gonk Droid from one place to another, or “Walker Assault,” where the goal is to defend an AT-AT or take it down, most of everything else is kill or be killed.

There’s Blast, the Battlefront take on traditional team death-match: Supremacy, an all-out war mode that tasks players with pushing the other team off the planet, and Fighter Squadron, which is essentially death-match in the air, exclusively.

Also present are Hero-centric gametypes like “Heroes vs. Villains,” which is a six-on-six round-based mode where players assume the role of iconic Star Wars characters.

And heroes is where the game shines best. Play as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader or Boba Fett. If that sounds like a small number of choices, that’s because it is. 2005’s Battlefront II had 23 heroes and villains. Here is where the new game finds its faults.

There’s an overall lack of content here. The number of weapons and gear is in the tens and customization options are tied to face changes. But hey, EA has a $50 season pass ready for you to buy.

Downloadable content isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but when it looks like three-fourths of a game’s content has been removed to sell back later, there’s a problem. This season pass will contain four additional hero characters, 16 multiplayer maps and countless gear and guns.

But it’s OK. Battlefront is a beautiful title with tight, natural gameplay and it’s a whole lot of fun. Nothing beats Force-choking as Vader, or leaping through the treehouses of Endor as Luke Skywalker with 20 Rebel soldiers charging into battle with you.

Flying an X-wing is exhilarating and taking down a Walker with a tow cable is 10 tons of awesome. But for the future, EA should look to Battlefront as a platform, not a sequel machine. Take cues from Activision’s Destiny, a fully formed title that has released expansions over the past year.

Let’s face it, Star Wars fans. Battlefront is the Star Wars game we want, but it doesn’t have all of the content it needs right now.

The sounds are also spot-on, aside from the voice acting. Like stated, you feel like you are a playing on the Star Wars universe and it just is so beautiful to see and to hear.

The heroes are plenty fun to play as. Luke, Vader, Han, Boba, Lea & The Emperor all play differently and you can succeed with any of them during the field of battle.

    Cons:

Basically everything else. The game feels so unfinished, especially in comparison to the other Battlefronts. Where is the single-player campaign? Where is Galactic Conquest? Where is Space Battles in a freaking Star Wars game? Where are the prequel units? Why is Star Wars Episode VII not getting represented at all?

Where the hell is the rest of the game?

You have so few modes that you will quickly grow bored and just play online, which doesn't help much, if at all, due to extreme balance issues between sides (Rebels dominate Air Combat, Empire dominate Ground Combat) and the horrendous spawning system. The air flight controls are awkward to use and the overall flight feeling just doesn't feel natural and the vehicles are far less important here, which is a shame because they used to be such fun in the other Battlefront games.

Most of the other modes are barely worth mentioning due to their balance issues (Walker Assault) or just dumb design choices (Hero Hunt) and them having only 4 maps is not helping their case either.

And the less i say about EA's $50 Dollar DLC Season Pass, the better.

Every novelty about the game will soon wear off due to it's incredible lack of replay ability due to the loss of a campaign mode and worthwhile offline modes and the online mode won't suffice either due to the severe lack of maps and the horrible balancing issues.

This one of the most disappointing games released in this generation of consoles and probably of all time. Thanks a lot, Electronic Arts. You have just ruined yet another treasured franchise.

The fighter squadron quickly became my only reason to play Star Wars Battlefront, but the luster wore off after a few months when it was clear the game made was imbalanced toward the rebels. Over a year later, the game mode is still imbalanced. The ground game was an immediate dud. Coming into the game a month late, I was far behind other players in weapon and ability unlocks, and those unlocks are meaningful. It's not fun being cannon fodder, and I gave up on the whole thing. The population numbers tell me that I'm not the only one. My son and I had some co-op fun running off-line missions, and it's clear that this game badly needed an off-line campaign. It's no surprise to see this title selling for less $10 new. It is perhaps the worst game purchase I have ever made.

The multi-player itself is standard Battlefield: shoot, die, repeat. There are some goals to reach but without any coordination the results seem random. The standout modes are dogfights and walker assault. The vehicle combat is well done, and my only complaint is the lack of a rebel land vehicle. The Snow Speeder is nice enough, but moves too fast to take down ground troops. The dogfights are marred only by the way too powerful Millenium Falcon and Slave 1. Their health bars are ridiculous.

The negative reaction to this game is understandable. The player stats also show a middling player population. By the end of 2016, I expect the game will have to drop most of the playlists to keep the populations viable. I don't see how DLC playlists will ever have viable populations. My recommendation is to avoid the DLC altogether until EA figures out how to make this game more popular.

The leveling system is as frustrating for new players as any. This bar to entry is another knock against the anemic player population. Hopefully developers will realize the value of playlists with equal starts. At least the dog fighting game has old and new players at an equal level.

Though there is no campaign, the game does support split screen. Couch co-op is great fun and I believe this is the only game this generation with couch co-op. nonsensically, there is no proper party system for bringing friends into a match. The best you can do is have one friend guaranteed to be on you side while your other friends may randomly end up on the enemy's side. This should be the developer's no.1 focus right now and the most immediate cure to the population problems.

The gameplay is fast and high paced the player is encourage to use hip fire if your are playing first person(i mostly play 3rd person however i also play 1st person every now and then) making gameplay quite high paced. This is where it gets bad. There is obviously a lack of content the big one being no conquest game mode meaning that you are stuck with mostly small scale warfare the biggest being Walker Assault. And although it is a larger scale battle it still doesn't make up for the lack of an enormous Conquest battle which could have been amazing with the potential of modern tech.

I have noticed that many people are quite upset about the fact that there is not campaign tbh i am not that upset about the lack of a campaign being as the originals didn't really even have one to begin with it was really just matches against a computer and if you consider that a intriguing campaign then you should consider raising your standards. However that doesn't mean i wouldn't like the option to have a match against an ai so i am going to fault them on that, because the single player although fun to play with friends isn't really that intriguing after you play each one through a couple of times.(btw this game does have split screen so props to you dice)

A few misc complaints vehicle spawns at times can be very frustrating especially when i spawn directly in front of an enemy x wing. Also there is one very frustrating weapon called homing shot which enrages me to no end essentially it is a stinger missile for people. It is absolutely ridiculous to get killed over and over again by this weapon that requires absolutely no skill to use what's even worse is that even at full health it's an instant kill weapon.

Overall fun shooter mechanics and gorgeous visuals and sound quality however lack of conquest and lack of weapons make for and inferior game. I had a lot of hope for this game and in the end it left me kind of disappointed.

A painfully mediocre game with a shiny coat of paint. Barely any content at launch with a $50 season pass, repetitive and bland gameplay, no single player modes, and unbalanced multiplayer to top it all off.

Overall, I'm quite disappointed with this. They should have given this game a different name so that we weren't conned into thinking this is a Battlefront game. Not much in this game is all that I really have to say. Gameplay is fun but really basic which I understand, because they are just trying to make the game fun for everyone, but it just makes it way easier for skilled players to completely dominate on the battlefield. The Heroes and Viliains are not very fun to play as, other than Boba Fett. Lots of modes, but it really just boils down to shooting people, other than the Fighter Squadron and Heroes vs Villains modes. The way vehicles are handled in this game is not good. You can only get vehicles if you find power-ups on the battlefield. There is a much better way to do this, but EA was afraid of ripping stuff from other series like Battlefield. If they would have taken the essentials from other games and just added in Star Wars things, the game would be a lot better. Graphics are great as usual from DICE. Sound and atmosphere are spot on. Even though I have many problems with this game, I still enjoyed playing it. The lack of content disappoints me, and I'm sure as hell not buying the Season Pass, but I'm looking forward to the sequel so that DICE and EA can fix some of these problems, and add in a Campaign, and Clone Wars stuff(and Sequel trilogy content). I'm just happy that this came with my PS4 and I didn't have to pay an extra $60 for it. Expand

I also can't see a 0 being an honest score - because the mechanics, graphics and sounds are phenomenal.

    My issues with the game
    No Online split-screen
    No Galactic Conquest
    No Space Battles
    No meaningful Single Player mode
"Supremacy" mode is more of a tug-of-war, whereas the old battlefronts you could take any command post on the map and it was more tactical and enjoyable.
Heroes are massively OP - and there aren't enough of them.
Nerf the heroes and allow 2-3 per side at a time.

    However
Walker Assault and Turning Point are good 20v20 modes.
Turning point can only be played on one map, so that sucks.
There are now 10 different game types, so you have diversity in what you can play.
I enjoy Cargo, Blast and Drop Pod modes.
I hate Droid Run, Heroes vs Villains and Hero Hunt - but to each its own.

Dice sent a patch update in early-mid December that balanced the gameplay nicely, but it did nerf some items.

If this was a full game, I would have gladly given it a 9 or 10 - the mechanics are that good, but with all of the missing content and "Season Pass" (pay-wall). It deserves a 5. - Too bad because it was a great franchise.

I'm not trying to review this by comparing it to Battlefront II, that would be stupid and I would have to rate it zero. I'm not trying to review this by comparing it to Battlefront II, that would be stupid and I would have to rate it zero. I already knew it wouldn't be nearly a shadow of what BFII was, but I wanted a casual shooter to play online since I don't have any and I refuse to play any Call of Duty game.

With that in mind, I must say my experience with this game was mixed. It ranged from incredible moments of intense gunplay to infuriating rage thanks to the retard matchmaking and the impossibility of playing with my friends. The game offer little content, certainly doesn't worth 60 bucks. But if you can get passed that you can still have some super casual fun, if you don't care about playing almost alone (only 1 "partner" allowed), and the unbalanced gameplay. And yes, it is unbalanced. I know it is casual but they managed to make a weapon in which you don't even have to aim, it kills in 1 shot, and can be combined with a perk that completely removes the cooldown. All that in a shooter. It is proof that DICE/EA don't take the game seriously.

    Positives:

    - Superb graphics. Seriously, this thing is pretty. Those forests and volcanic areas are jaw dropping;
    - Great map design for infantry modes, which is the ones I play the most. I've been a little disappointed with BF4 maps (after awesome BF3 maps). But in Battlefront they nailed it;
    - Dice really knows how to make the game sound vivid. The same intense sounds you've seen in Battlefield series;
    - Multiplayer is simple and can be fun if there isn't any jerk abusing OP weapons (which is rare).

    Negative
    - Worst content/cost ratio I've ever seen. No way this game has U$ 60 worth of content;
    - Unbalanced gameplay. Favors camping and non-skill players. There's no reason for you to play "fair", trying to have fun with your little laser gun, when everyone is using homing shot missiles in your face all the time. I could just do the same and use it but I refuse to. There's no fun in that. Fortunately I can still counter this homing shots and manage to perform nicely but I feel for people that doesn't;
    - Matchmaking is utterly broken. No server browser whatsoever and half of the time I have to wait for minutes to get into a match and the other half the game simply won't get me into any match at all. It just opens a new match with me and only me in it and no one else will fill the remaining slots. Until I give up playing a certain type of game;
    - The "space combat" is laughable. I've never seen something so underwhelming.

With some tweaking on the gameplay and the servers this game could even be a decent choice for the casual player. It still is damn expensive for the amount of content it offers. There is some fun buried deep into this game but it is just too broken right now. This of course, if you can get passed the fact this was never meant to be a sequel to Battlefront II.

What's really disappointing about DICE's Star Wars Battlefront reboot is that after that magical feeling of nostalgia eventually dissipates, you're left with a game that has very little substance. What's really disappointing about DICE's Star Wars Battlefront reboot is that after that magical feeling of nostalgia eventually dissipates, you're left with a game that has very little substance. What hammers that point even further is that more than half the game's content is locked behind an 'Online Only' wall. Offline players won't have long to exhaust what's available to them.

The graphics are top notch, but once you've tried every 'different' blaster, rifle or whatever, they all feel the same pretty much. The maps, once again, look great, but their orientation is limiting. Battles eventuate to being whoever shoots first (I'm looking at you Han Solo) or whoever gets finished off because their health meter was 90% depleted.

Playing as heroes is no better: Once the magic of playing as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, The Emperor, Boba Fett, Han Solo or Princess Leia wears off, you're instantly bored. This is also a downside when you compare this line-up of characters in comparison to the roster of heroes and villains available in Pandemic's Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Not only that, but heroes in DICE's reboot have finite health, requiring players to scurry about and look-up for a health replenishment item. This means hero battles boil down to a frustrating race to keep your health topped up or prevent the other player from reaching said health item.

For offline players, the Tutorials only hold that opportunity to pilot an X-Wing, a speeder and an AT-ST. Survival is probably the only replay worthy material, but this itself is a frustrating limited experience.

Overall, Battlefront is a limited title that will quickly expire in terms of public interest. The only thing for DICE to do is to radically improve the inevitable sequel. For a real Star Wars Battlefront experience, play the 10 year old sequel released by Pandemic.

It doesn't help that the free DLC they included, might as well have been part of the original game and no one would've batted an eye. Star Wars: Battlefront follows the trend of modern games that don't include a story campaign, and allows for consumers to unlock certain things sooner, for a fee. I think Dice is an awesome game developer, but it matters little who the game developer is, as long as a publisher like EA, Activison or Ubisoft dictates the amount of, and what kind of content they're allowed to make. There is just no cooperation or any semblance of teamwork within multiplayer, which would've been easy for DICE to implement, and it would be great for it to be in a new Battlefront game. But no. Not to mention DICE deciding to make no campaign at all! Instead of trying to make a good campaign, they just gave up and said "Nope!" How lazy! Overall, Star Wars: Battlefront is a painfully average game, that only just rises above the 5 score because of the excellent production values. Star Wars Battlefront is fun, but is plagued with too many issues for me to really recommend it to most people. But first off, I have to give credit where credit is due. The graphics are gorgeous, and the sound is good too (aside from the voice acting, of course). It really immerses you into the Star Wars universe. Game play is enjoyable, but far from perfect. Lightsaber fights are a huge letdown - take turns smacking each other until one of you dies, or catch the other player off guard, not letting them land a single hit on you, or even turn around for that matter. The shooting isn't bad, though. The game's online mode consists of nine game modes, (Ten with the free DLC) but I only really enjoy three or four. Anyone I've asked said it was the same way for them, so you'll most likely choose an handful of favourites and disregard the rest. The single player on the other hand, is an absolute joke. It'll last you maybe an hour or two before you leave it forever. The worst part, however, is the DLC. The 50 dollar season pass is advertised on the main menu, and a bunch of new maps and heroes are promised, essentially making this a $110 USD or $130 CAD game. This is ridiculous on it's own, but a sequel is reportedly already in development, meaning EA couldn't care less about actually creating the content people have already paid money for.

The game is fun. I want to really enjoy it and play it consistently, but in it's current state, it's a bit of a train wreck. A recent update did fix some issues and added more free content, so EA must be trying something new. I'm happy to bump the score up to a 7 instead of a 6 because of that.

One thing that's a nit pick but really annoyed me was how terrible the voice acting is for Darth Vader, honestly, I could do a better job. I first played through some of the solo missions, they were fun, but quickly got repetitive. I then decided to go through some of the training missions, basically code name for tutorials. The tutorials were okay, but the last one where you had to wrap an AT-AT with a cable like in Episode 5 was horrible. I didn't understand what it wanted me to do at all. I ended up just quitting it. So first of all in game design you're supposed to teach players how to play the game by putting the tutorials in the gameplay, in a way so that the player doesn't notice it's even there, not in a separate mode. Then one of the tutorials even failed to teach me how to do a key strategy for taking down a walker. I don't have PSN, so I couldn't play the multiplayer, just an FYI I find it completely stupid that I have to pay $50 to play the other half of the game my brother got me for I presume about the same amount. I did play some of the multiplayer during the beta though, and like other reviews, it's fun for a little while, but then it just gets repetitive and stale. I'll be playing this game every now and then with some friends, since thank God it does have local multiplayer. I look forward to having fun experiences playing this with friends. Overall, I think this game is good, not great but good. I understand, however, why some people might not like it as there are a few design decision that are not great in my opinion.

First of all, as you probably already know this game is mainly focused on online multiplayer. There are a few “missions” to play solo, but they’re not great fun to play in the long term, good however to learn the basic mechanics.

Graphics, sound, maps etc. are all really good, they look, sound and feel very well do I don’t think I have any complains in there. What about gameplay? Well…this is where the thing gets juicy, there are both good a bad things. Good thigs first, the gameplay, feels smooth and fast but not too fast and the gun fight lasts long enough (you don’t die too fast nor too slow) which is good as having better aim compared to your opponent can really make a difference, but there is still some room for luck and randomness which is good. Weapons are good and they feel and are different, I’ve read a lot of people complaining that all weapons are the same, that they are not different and that it doesn’t make any difference if you equip A or B. I strongly disagree with this; maybe not all weapons are different but there are definitely quite a few different groups. For example, if we focus on fire rate, there are slow and fast weapons (usually slow weapons are powerful and fast not as much), so depending on how good your aim is, it makes quite a huge difference which one you choose. Low fire rate weapons are usually powerful and overheat quickly which means you need to have good aim or otherwise they’re useless, on the other hand high fire rate weapons are basically the opposite. Also depending on the map you might want to change the weapon you use; e.g. for wide open maps you may like a long range weapon, but this one is probably not that effective in the smaller “corridor-like” maps. Same with the gadgets, you have to give it a bit of thought if you want to use the best gadget for both your skills and map/game mode. Basically, choosing the right equipment makes a huge difference if you’re playing to win, and this is good; if you’re just playing to randomly and pointlessly shoot around and kill, then I guess it doesn’t really matter but I don’t think that’s the game’s fault.

Anyway, bad things, the first bad thing for me is the fact that there is a huge breach in equipment between let’s say low rank players (1-20) and high rank players (40+). You basically start with almost nothing, in terms of weapons and gadgets and that ruins a bit the experience at the beginning. First, chances are a lot of people are going to kill you loads just because they have better equipment. That is kind of all right as it is a bit like that in all games. However, I think it is quite quite frustrating when that breach makes you pretty much useless in certain game modes compared to high rank players. For example, in cargo, drop zone and droid run (you basically have to capture something by interacting with it) it makes a huge difference to have personal shields for blaster defense, or a jetpack to chase the enemy carrier, stunning grenades etc etc. With the kind of kit they give you at the beginning you are severely in disadvantage and that, my friends, spoils the fun a bit. I really think they should have given rookies better stuff. Second stuff that frustrates me quite a lot, is the respawn locations, it is not strange at all in this game to spawn in the middle of an enemy mob and that means you’re gonna die instantly. This doesn’t happen this often in other games so there is something wrong here either with the respawn design or the maps, but it is frustrating as hell. Finally, this game feels far too chaotic, I know…partially is because people play in a chaotic way, but again it feels a lot more chaotic here than in other games. You find yourself too often in the middle of crossfires and it is not because the opponents have managed to perform an awesome strategic group manoeuvre, no, it is just random and as I said before, many times is right after respawn.

Anyway, when you get past the initial lack of equipment the game is more and quite enjoyable as you can start to create your own “pseudo-class” and try to make a difference in a match. The problem is it will take you quite a bit to get to that point so there is a good chance you’ll get bored/frustrated in the way. If you’re in doubt as I was, I would suggest you get a second hand copy (they’re quite cheap now) and you give it a good play. If you like it, good get the season pass if you don’t just get rid of it and you didn’t lose too much money (I’m still trying to decide myself!).

But this is only the paint job that hides a very shallow FPS: 1. All Weapons feel like they do the same amount of damage, even with the automatic blasters they feel more accurate than what the stats has you believe. Even Han Solo's blaster is the best weapon unlocked at the last stage of the game, and it's the most overpowered weapon in the game, with stats that remind me of the FAMAS from Black Ops 1. 2. Vehicles are few in number and are sometimes useless, ships are useless on some maps, and you could do more kamikazes in these ships than actually trying to shoot enemies. 3. Most of the cards are overlooked in favor for only a few cards such as the jump pack and grenades. 4. Heroes and Villains are way too overpowered, and unlike the last two games, there is no limit for how long you can play them, so until death you can go on crazy kill streaks and there is no satisfaction of earning these pick ups, unless you happen to be the last person that hit them and collect the hero drop. 5. There is only a few modes that are fun like Walker Assault and Supremacy. The rest are generic and not worth your time if you're a fan of Battlefront like I am. 6. No story mode, but plenty of disappointing cut scenes in survival that reminds me of what the story could've been. 7. Customization is shallow and a huge disappointment. 8. And the final nail in this coffin of a game is the price severely out-weighs the benefits, making it a much better rental than an awesome purchase. So in conclusion, there is a reason why it's not called Battlefront 3, because in Battlefront 1 and 2 it'll satisfy the Star Wars fans with much more content, than this bland shoot 'em up that looks great! But suffers with it's lack of content Expand

This game is not worth the £60 price tag it was given upon release and the £100 price tag for the game plus season pass is hilariously ridiculous. But I can't ignore the effort and care that has been put into this game. Every sound I hear immediately takes me back to the original trilogy and the atmosphere of each map is exactly what myself and many other Star Wars fans were wanting. It will always keep coming back to this game if I want a few quick matches and I am looking forward to the further DLCs, but I just wish the base game included the content they're charging a further £40 for. If you're a Star Wars fan, then you should definitely by this game, but maybe wait until the price drops a bit more. Expand

Star Wars Battlefront has few flaws but like with so many other titles out there refuses to exceed beyond the very basic traceable template you've made. This 'reboot' does nothing but repeat the exact same mechanics and properties of, surprise surprise, a Battlefield game. Actually now that I mention it this game has more in common with COD (activision) then a Battlefield game. It's repetitive and gets boring fast.
Look here EA if you're going to buy your way into a big franchise like Star Wars and say you're going to reboot a beloved video game franchise... well then bloody try. The closest this game gets to Battlefront material is by looking and sounding like Star Wars. That's about it. EA have accomplished what thousands of indie developers starting out with a game engine for the first time could have done. For that I am truly disappointed.
For the people that find enjoyment out of this game: good for you I'm glad. I don't find it hard to believe that someone can love this game but for the facts which they are using to defend this game are appalling. "This game is meant for MP players", "You need to level up more in order to gain enjoyment out of this game" well then excuse me and thousands of other people who assumed that the game would follow in its predecessors footsteps by including a legit single player campaign, some form of big scale single player battle mode and an easy and fun leveling up system. The joy of the previous Battlefront games were from the fact that everyone was equal with the same equipment so everyone stood a chance. Now I spawn next to someone who is above level 20 and I haven't made it passed 5 because I keep getting killed. Everything I wanted in this game that was in the others were torn out and replaced by nice graphics. Yesterday I played Tales of Zestrilia and that game proves that you don't need to have fancy graphics to make a game enjoyable. Hell the predecessors are still fun now with early stage PS2 graphics.
Final words: 10/10 people- get out of your pit of denial and look at this game compared to a) it's predecessors b) any other game. It is massively disappointing and will never, not matter how much free DLC they throw in my face, will progress passed 5/10. Developers- delete that stupid template you have and think of something new that doesn't involve a rinse and repeat formula. The free DLC is a step in the right direction but it's a small one. Focus on your games first then move passed that.

If I had to imagine Battlefront EA as a person, I would envision Uma from the Witcher 3, except you can pay to make him less ugly. But he will always be a midget compared to Battefront 2.

Battlefronts greatest thrills all occur within a few hours of playing. Once you get over the initial 'I'm in Star Wars' little things begin to pick apart at your overall enjoyment of the game. While it does look stunning and 'like the movies', having a server full (Gods willing) of helmet less, jet packing, pistol shooters does damage this image. Furthermore, who really cares if it looks like the movies, I'd rather take the characters and soldiers and take them to new and exciting battlefronts (pun intended). Much time was wasted to recreate scenes from the movie, which are picturesque but ultimately limited the maps available. As of current, the amount of content does not justify a $60 (US) price tag. While many players seem to enjoy it, unfortunately it does not have the enjoyment or depth of the previous Battlefronts and is unfit to claim to be its successor. It shares very little in common with it and really seems like a pathetic rip-off. I think I might just skip Battlefront 4 & 5 and get into Battlefront 6 to save myself some heartache. Just as people argue that Return of the Jedi is the worst in the trilogy, the Battlefront EA will suffer the fate.

The current content is bland and uninspired, despite the rich design of predecessors. While it has its pros, the cons stick out glaringly as amateur mistakes considering DICE's pedigree. The reason it is so hated is purely because it lacks content, depth and had so much potential. The inclusion of emotes is a waste of animation time that could have been spent on campaign mode or something to occupy the interns, either way a waste of players controller space. The cancelled Battlefront had space battles and land battles that connected and was exactly what people wanted and had asked for numerous times. I feel that the current backlash is from a community that has lost patience over a long period of time. Battlefront 2 had both Clone Wars and Galactic Wars; also Space and Land battles. Battlefront 3 has Galactic war land battles. In ten to fifteen years time, I would expect Battlefront 7 to finally have space and land battles across all three trilogies.

EA has offered a product that appeals to a wide range of fan bases. The graphics are the brightest points that the game offers, while the lack of a story mode limits the experience. The very limited offering of weapons and modes drags the game down as does the lack of weapon damage drop off. Overall the game looks far better than it plays, and the mechanics get old too fast.

The problem with Battlefront isn't on a technical level it plays and runs fine but other problems contribute to it's downfall. Battlefront simply doesn't offer the player enough content to work with and all though single-player elements were thrown into the game there isn't enough diversity in missions or customization for matches in fact there is no customization outside of gun and perks; This is a big issue for me I would expect to edit the game maybe my character add some more AI for a huge battle! But sadly, Battlefront doesn't allow me to do that. Next the modes range from multiplayer/single player but Battlefront thinks to small it feels more like a Battlefield re-skin or mod than an actually different game. Battlefront was given the golden opportunity to become the first game of the Star Wars franchise on current gen (PS4, Xbox One) consoles as all the Battlefront games before than was on PC,PS2,Original Xbox and Xbox 360 but it cannot surpass it's predecessors. Lack of large-scale space warfare hurt the game and dealt a powerful blow to fans of the Star Wars franchise. Battlefront's music choice is also very basic I can almost hear the same track playing on any mission I choose to play. It seems like a limited experience as if it was a beta, we should have gotten the cancelled game that looked more entertaining than this. In the end Battlefront was just a commercial game it was designed to trick gamers in with it's shiny graphics and Star Wars logo but gamers got smart and Battlefront's popularity plummeted quickly; Also the amount of DLC present in the game is cringe-worthy. It might be fun to blast storm troopers with your laser rifle that never runs out of ammo but don't expect anything more from Battlefront other than short challenges and combat. Expand

That said, the 20 on 20 matches are great when people are playing the objective (which is maybe 50% of the time) , the vehicles are fun to use and the gun controls are refreshingly simple. A couple of critical notes:

Starfighter combat mode is okay, but there Imperial/Rebel fighters are terribly unbalanced. The rebel jet will win 8 times out of 10. It's better to dogfight over a ground battle (e.g. Supremacy) than to play full out Fighter Squadron mode.

Hero vs Hero used to be my favorite mode, I played it every day. Sure, you couldn't choose your hero and hoped to spawn as your favorite but that also made you learn to use characters you would otherwise have avoided and perhaps have more fun than you expected (looking at you, Palp and Leia). Unfortunately in one of the more recent updates they changed things so that you can choose your hero and that generally means button mashing to get who you want, which takes the entire spirit out of the process. I've played once or twice since they changed it but haven't played HvH again in months. It's too bad.

However, the newer maps are great, I love the emojis, graphics of course are lavish, etc etc. Try to get this game under $20 because that's really what a game without a campaign mode and a relatively straight forward multiplayer model should cost..

While there’s a good selection of improvements – including graphically – and definitely recreates the feeling of being in the Star Wars universe, yet compared to previous instalments, there seems to be a lot missing.

Gameplay: Controls are very simple and easy to understand, as well as being very responsive. It is great to be a Stormtrooper or a Rebel fighter until you step forward and then proceed to spontaneously combust or grow blaster wounds in vital areas. In short, the online multiplayer is very chaotic and once you do manage to survive long enough to acquire any interesting weapons or vehicles, it feels very anticlimactic, disappointingly as dull as everything else you would’ve done in the game so far.

If you’d rather avoid the overwhelming multiplayer modes, the offline features aren’t exactly more welcoming. There only a very limited number of game modes available which have almost no content or challenge to them, and are either too short or too slow.

However, some of the most fun I have had in the game is in the Hero Battles. Despite being very oddly paced at times, it’s hard to deny that it is really fun running around and choking people as Darth Vader, waving your lightsaber around as Luke Skywalker, doing crazy flips as Emperor Palpatine or shooting enemies as Han Solo, Fett or Leia.

Visuals/Sound: One of the only defining qualities of this game is the atmosphere. This newest addition to Battlefront is undoubtedly the best looking and sounding Star Wars game to date. The scenery, the characters, the sounds and effects are all very authentic to the original trilogy and very easily immerses players in the world of Star Wars.

Even for those who would be considered indifferent about the Star Wars movies would find this experience thrilling. It really does feel like you’re taking part in a battle within Star Wars itself. However, this would be a good excuse to own the game already, rather than a reason to buy it in the first place; unless of course you are a self-proclaimed massive fan of Star Wars, in which case this is the game for you.

Summary: A very tight, rather generic shooter, disguised as a good-looking Star Wars game. Definitely not the best Star Wars game out there, and without a doubt not the best Battlefront game. There is genuine fun to be had in this game, for about an hour or so. Unless you’re a big Star Wars fan, the newest Battlefront will get old, fast. Even then, it’ll get old eventually.

Overall, quite a disappointment considering the pre-release hype. The biggest drawback was the lack of a story mode, opting instead for a handful of pretty straightforward 'missions'. The online gameplay however is just what you would expect from the team behind the Battlefield series - being both huge & beautiful (if not fairly repetitive).

As mentioned before, it is a fun game to play, but after playing battlefield 4, which was released nearly three years prior, and seeing how it still succeeds, one cannot help but feel that battlefront fails to reach its full potential.

Those first couple hours are decent fun and its hard not to be impressed by how good everything in the game looks but after you get past that it becomes very clear that the game is average in almost every other way. This really seems like it was purely made to capitalize on the Star Wars brand.

The gameplay isn't bad but it is inferior to the other Battlefront games that I have played. I don't know why anyone who choose this game over dozens of other FPS games aside from the graphics and the fact that it is a Star Wars game. There are very few weapon options and most of them are pretty generic. They added character customization but the options are extremely limited. There are only a few battle scenarios.

There is no storyline or campaign mode at all. Even fighting games put in a basic campaign. There is really no excuse for this.

Obviously the visuals are great, however, there is very little creativity. I can't think of any past Star Wars games that looked this good but almost all of the past Star Wars games that I have played, such as Jedi Knight or Shadow of the Empire, include unique designs that added to the Star Wars world. Battlefront does a good job of presenting what we already know but doesn't give us anything new design wise.

Sound Design is basically the same situation as the visuals. Everything sounds great but it is basically just the same sounds that you get in the movies, there are no memorable original songs. Basically EA got what they paid for, recorded it in game form and sold it to consumers at a markup. It sounds good so I give it some props for that but in a world where even indie games are starting to have amazing original tracks I expect more from a massive franchise from a massive company.

Considering that the game is purely focused on multiplayer I would have expected a lot of maps to choose from but there are hardly any and while they all look great they are all pretty small and not that complex. Just like everything else in this game, they just don't seem to be very inspired.

While Battlefront is far from the worst game and the production values are mostly excellent, that is not good enough of a reason to buy it. There are far better Star Wars games and far better FPS games. Wait a few years and all the Star Wars games will look and sound this good. Even if you are a huge Star Wars fan I would recommend that you save your money.

    I give it 48%

I am impressed by this game as well disappointed. There is now story line to the game. Some of the vehicle controls are just plain difficult. But I am impressed that you can drive ships and everything else. Multiplayer combat is so enjoyable. 5/10

Star Wars Battlefront is a disappointingly shallow multiplayer FPS that made all the wrong decisions.

Star Wars Battlefront is a disappointingly shallow multiplayer FPS that made all the wrong decisions.

    Pros:
    - Absolutely stunning to look at. These worlds were brought to life with care and focus, feeling as though they were pulled straight from the films
    - Sound design is exceptional. Whether its the buzzing slash of a lightsaber or the high pitched squeal of a laser blaster, the sounds are accurate and perfectly placed. Battles sound just how you'd expect
    - Great music; tracks both new and old place the game directly in the Star Wars universe
    - Playing as the heroes and villains of the Star Wars universe never gets old

    Cons:
    - Incredibly long loading times; whether entering a map or simply waiting to go back to the title screen, you are looking at a minute or more of idling. It gets frustrating fast.
    - No single player
    - Poor progression favors veterans far too heavily. Too many helpful abilities and weapons are locked completely inaccessible to beginners. Newcomers are already at a disadvantage in terms of skill and familiarity, also giving them the worst of the weapons and no star cards makes this title incredibly difficult to get into
    - The most interesting game modes are locked behind DLC. Multi-tiered objective based modes are locked, with only basic game modes available to all.
    - Too much is locked behind DLC. I had most of my fun on DLC maps and game modes. The base game is painfully shallow
    - Team balancing is horrendous. I have entered matches to find myself alone on my team against 5 players on the opposite side. Even when numbers are even, skill levels are seemingly not considered. Far too often games feel completely one sided. Competitive matches are few and far between.
    - Shallow space combat

    Mixed:
    - Loose, spread heavy gunplay. Some people may like this, but I like my guns to be precise.
    - Game modes are a mixed bag; again this will have a lot to do with personal preference

Star Wars Battlefront looks and feels like a Star Wars game should, but unfortunately while putting so much effort into the presentation, it seems the designers forgot to back it up with content. While there is fun to be had, the loose gunplay, unfair progression system, long loading times and terrible team balancing will turn most away before they can ever find it.

Summary: It's great if you want a simple distraction, but a major disappointment if you're looking for any kind of comprehensive game.

Full Review: Battlefront for the PS4 has been equipped with all of the frills of FPS gameplay - powerful visuals, great graphics, plenty of weapon variety, and engaging combat mechanics. And yet, they stripped of most of the things that made the franchise charming, unique and lovable. No more "Galactic War" gameplay modes, no campaigns, and no more leading your troops with AI commands.

What's left is a game with bare bones Single Player and Split-screen modes, and an Online Multiplayer that has almost nothing to distinguish it from every other major FPS on the market. The fact that this game is more-or-less entirely Online Multiplayer focused could be acceptable if they gave the online games depth, i.e. lots of maps, complex objectives, game-mode customization.

However, the game has only a handful of maps, simple objectives, and basic modes. Following in EA's traditional customer-gouging custom, several of extra maps, which should have been included to make this barren game feel more complete, only come at a high extra cost.

I must admit, I did find the Online Multiplayer to be a somewhat addicting experience. There certainly were positives in the combat mechanics, visuals, and trying out different vehicles and weaponry. However, I cannot get over the fact that this game feels so empty and incomplete.

Microtransactions may not be here but Overpriced DLC and dickhead design leads this game into a mediocre and frustrating hole, I gave this game a chance and all it became was something for my friends and I to crack jokes at the expense of.

Well, at least it's the prettiest game I've laid my eyes on in a very long time.
It got a little better from where it was but this game is now just okay, nothing more, nothing less.

It's not the most complex shooter, but it's the ideal pick-up-and-play experience for Star Wars fans. Stunning environments, solid shooting and immersive sound design mask the shortcomings. [Jan 2016, p.82]

With the new film of the space opera saga finally on the big screen and the release of Battlefront's new sequel, both after a decade overdue, it is definitely the best time to be a Star Wars fan. The game itself is a dream-come-true for fans, and the Star Wars spectacle is strong in this one. However, if it is depth and longevity you seek... this is not the game you are looking for.

Spectacular production values help to make this game enjoyable in the early going, but it soon enough shows that it is painfully lacking in terms of maps and depth in its current form. [Issue#265, p.72]
