After the first few hours it gets very boring very fast. No single player exists, except for a survivor mode, the combat/gameplay is below average as far as a first person shooters go.

The multiplayer mode feels broken, spawn points are ridiculous, there are only eleven guns which all feel the same, no customization at all, repetitive maps which are too few. From the 9 game modes only about 3 of them are appealing. Character customization is a joke. You have to spend in game credits to unlock characters and they really dont offer much until you unlock the last levels if you bother to get that far. Vehicles and fighter jets controls are so basic and you have to walk around the map hunting for pop-ups to activate them rather than going to a que to access them. Worst of all you cant really team up with your friends in a squad. Instead you can be a partner with only one friend, other friends who join cant be in a squad with you so its like your not even playing with them. So much for multiplayer.

I expected that with DICEs involvement starwars battlefront would be built upon further adding alot of the great things we saw in battlefield 3 & 4. Rather this game is a hollow shell of what it could be. Spending 70 dollars on a game so void of content is disappointing to say the least. Maybe its because of the graphics its so expensive, but if thats the case they should have sacrificed visuals for actual content or priced at what its worth, a 30 USD game. Its a shame they can get away with pricing it for so much when it has nothing. Other games of the same price have hoooours of gameplay and content. There is no way im going to fork out another 50USD for additional maps in there DLC. If you want to play an FPS do yourself a favor and buy ANYTHING other than this game.

Astounding. Simply astounding.

I think the most interesting thing about EA "Wanna-be" Battlefront is just how much MORE content the old Battlefront games had than this new one does, and that was 10 years ago back in 2005....

Let's compare shall we? What does Star wars Battlefront 2 from 2005 have that EA "Wanna-be" battlefront doesn't?

    *a campaign
    *command posts
    *reinforcement counts
    *balanced gameplay
    *good spawns
    *space combat
*a nice ranking system (for 2005, but yet STILL better than this one's ranking system. How did that happen?)
    *Good light saber combat
    *Better ground vehicles
    *galactic conquest
    *32vs32
    *good squad combat

And plenty more. For ANYONE even CONSIDERING handing over their hard earned money for this half-assed game that looks and sounds good and that's about it; might I suggest that you head over to steam, throw down $10 for Battlefront 2, and play that instead.

I am not lying or exaggerating when I say that EA "Wanna-be" Battlefront will give you less satisfying playtime than Battlefront 2, a game that will only cost you $10 and was made a little over a decade ago.

P.S Star Wars Battlefront 1&2 was developed by Pandemic studios. In 2009, EA shut them down. So yeah, there's that too.

This is NOT Star Wars Battlefront.
    It lacks content
    Lacks maps and planets
    No Galactic Conquest
    No Clone Wars
    No Space battles
    Spawning is horribly broken
    Bugs and glitches
Only half a game at launch
    Overpriced Season Pass
They focused too much on the graphics than on the gameplay itself.

If you're like the rest of us, you might like the occasional shooter - not a super roided out hyper defensive COD fan boy - but you like a good shooter every now and then...and if you do, you know this is a bad shooter. Is it fun to be Darth Vader or fly around as Boba Fett - yeah, I guess. For a little while. But then the law of diminishing returns kicks in BIG TIME and you realize you've only been playing for 20 minutes and you're bored as ...well, an objective gamer playing a terrible shooter.
I will say this the graphics are sick - that's why it gets a 4 and not a 3.

Star Wars Battlefront isn't a *bad* game, per se, but it is extremely disappointing.

I loved Battlefront I & II on PS2. They were two of my favourite games of all time. I had high hopes, albeit lenient expectations, for this new entry. I knew it would be "Battlefielded" by DiCE and plastic-wrapped by EA, but I was sure a good game could still be in there. Well, I am still disappointed

I knew it would be "Battlefielded" by DiCE and plastic-wrapped by EA, but I was sure a good game could still be in there. Well, I am still disappointed in what I got.
First of all, I pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition PS4 Console bundle. I discovered after the fact that this bundle does not include the much-advertised early access to the Battle of Jakku. This seems to be a developer choice since it is the same across all retailers. DiCE / EA, shame on you. I spent $450+ to play your game and you stiff me an early access code.

Now, on to the actual game. It looks spectacular, to be sure. The graphics are pristine and the sound effects are great. Even so, I don't find it nearly as immersive as others claim to. Sure, it sounds like Star Wars, but the level of immersion is limited to, "We're on Endor, so here's a bunch of forest," or "We're on Hoth, so here's snow." Gone are the iconic visages of the movies (the Tattooine homestead, the carbonite freezing chamber, etc.), replaced by generic locations that sort of remind me of the films.

I also think the older games were more impressive in their integration of combat and flight. You could hop into a ship and take off into some air combat. Now, flight is available in a fraction of the maps, and even then it is accessible by picking up tokens rather than actually hopping into a ship. It feels cheap and insincere on the part of the developers not to at least have the player interact with a ship before appearing in the sky mid-flight. As it stands now, I can barely be bothered doing any flying at all in the game, which is a real wasted opportunity.

The lack of single-player really eats me up. I love two things: single player and splitscreen. I don't care much for online play, it's too competitive for my tastes, and with the old Battlefront I & II, that was perfectly fine, I could still have a ton of fun. Now, there is little room for me to enjoy the game. I can play Survivor mode with my buddy on the couch (which is fun for an hour or two of play here and there), or I can play a tutorial by myself. That's about it. This is a game for the Battlefield/CoD crowd, and not really for anyone else.

Even my limited experience in online play tells me that it is pretty bare-bones. About 16 maps, much recycled amongst one another, and a few different guns and supplies to unlock. Even if all the upcoming DLC packs were free, I'd be hard-pressed to say this game was worth the price of admission.

I was hoping for a PS4 successor to those great PS2 classics that we all know and love. Instead, I got an experience more akin to the disappointment of Lord of the Rings: Conquest than to the old Battlefront games. Here's hoping something better comes along in the future. A generous 4/10.

Then i decided to get it on ps4. I rather play games like BF4 on PC and fast paced arcade like Bfront on PS4 but my experience was horrible. Same weapons, not enough content, grenade spaming, lack of creativity with the cards (even though it wasnt a bad idea), horrible spawns, repetitive, ''loading screen arcade style'' fighter dog fighting ...
There was a real potential, some mp modes are fun, even with 4 maps it was ok, heroes, walker assault. I gave that game a second chance but after a game i felt that it was broken, some games looked like Unreal tournament (jet pack, laser spaming, grenades flying non stop), no strategy and constant frustration .. I look back and honestly i didnt miss anything and probably wont. Just dont buy it, unless it's 29$.

Few game modes, poor customization, flight controls sucks. We have no story mode and space battle mode. If you don't buy all the DLC's you won't get the entire game.

The blasters all control like you think they should, with no gun really outshining all of the others, and all the vehicles are a blast to fly around it or drive. But there is something darker here. Theres only 4 maps in the game, no joke. You have 2 maps for each planet, but because 1 map on each planet is designed for the **** death match modes no one will play you only see one of them. And of the 4 maps in the game only 2 are worth playing in my opinion. The game gets old really fast... really fast. Like 5 hours. And you didn't buy a 60 dollar game for 5 hours worth of fun. All of the game is hiding in the dlc that costs 50 **** dollars. So at the end of the day don't buy it. Its not worth the money. At the same time mother**** EA is pushing a 110 dollar game with enough content to fill maybe a 40 dollar one from the late 2000's people like Bethesda are putting out a 60 dollar game that feels like it has all the DLC included. Don't buy it, just pirate it and find a way to work around the blocks EA has put up. I know it's illegal, but buying the game is basically letting EA steal money for you, and if you have bought the game, don't buy the DLC and if you can return the season pass. No one else will be playing it and you will have spent 110 dollars on a MULTIPLAYER ONLY game with empty servers, and that will be a damn shame. Expand

Vast majority of multiplayer is one sided in favor of the Rebels, with exception to Walker Assault on Hoth which, despite tweaks, is still lopsided towards the Empire. One sided battles are extremely evident in Fighter Squadron, where Rebels win in absolute blowouts 9 times out of 10 regardless of location, thanks to their click-and-forget shields that double their health and have no adequate counter by the TIE's evasive maneuvers ability. Most Fighter Squadron matches I've played since release (50+ total games thus far) have had half of the players on the Imperial side quitting mid-match; that should tell you how bad the imbalance is. Hero Battle is the only truly balanced mode, but with 6 heroes on 4 maps, you'll get your fill in one or two matches.

Terrible netcode with horrendous lag and hit detection problems. Player customization is nothing short of a joke; same models for both sides, just one has Stormtrooper armor. Players spawn camping vehicles and not even trying to play the game due to horrible power up item design. Barely worth a rental, certainly not worth a buy, and DEFINITELY not worth dropping an extra $50 on top of the purchase price for a season pass. Wait until the inevitable "Battlefront Definitive Edition" comes out next holiday season with all the DLC and bug fixes... and then wait for it to go on sale.

It took away many of aspects which made the previous installment so highly coveted, such as the class system and a truly fun campaign.
In the game's favor, it truly looks and sounds incredible, but I don't feel that this can make up for the lack of overall content. There's too few modes which almost all feel uninspired, only a handful of maps for a game with no real campaign mode, and the weapons are incredibly unbalanced when unlocks compare to default.
The matching system is lacking, spawn camping feels far too common, and the game constantly loads you right into the line of fire of enemy vehicles. These major flaws in the multiplayer mode are all the more frustrating when the single player experience is so hollow. You have a handful of training missions, which weren't all that bad. Then story fights, which are the same first to 100 kills mission over and over again, the hero fights are an utter joke as even on the harder difficulties the life drops are so common the hero character will almost never die (not to mention the lack of heroes to chose from, there's only 6 in the entire game). And survival mode, which seems a touch unfair of how many vehicles the game sends at only a single player.
Overall the game just feels so empty. It seems like so much time was put into graphic quality, somewhere in the process they stopped creating a game. After an hour or two you can experience most of what the game has to offer unless you're going to put hours and hours into online ranking to get a few more guns and the ability to give your character different hairstyles. The massive multiplayer can be fun at times but incredibly frustrating at others, and the payoff at the end feels so minuscule.
If you plan to get this game, maybe wait 3 or 4 years for the price to drop to an appropriate level and hopefully the dlc that got cranked out in the meantime will have improved the game enough to justify purchasing it then. But I cannot imagine any dlc content worth having to pay any more then the already overpriced $60 price tag on the main game.
Overall, 2 out of 10. Break out Battlefront 2 instead and work past the outdated graphics and experience a game done right. And that's only $10 on steam if you don't already own it. Much better deal for a clearly superior game.

Customers should avoid buying this, if they do not agree with this kind of policy. Just like Microsoft took a step back with the prohibition of 2nd hand games when they saw the huge rejection of the public, game developers and publishers could do the same.

To sum up: The game has absolutely no content. Regardless of how many DLCs are released for this game, the original price is not worth paying at all, for what it has to offer. We are again victims of the hype.

So basically the game is dry and they skimped out on a lot, compared to Battlefront 2 and Dices Battle Field games I feel they gave us way less then what we expected from the pass. The maps are all great but there's not many of them. I see other ppl comments and I really don't understand why game creators don't listen to fans. Looks like Dice is slowly turning into C.O.D. A game that came out tens years ago blows this out of the water. What does it say about this $60 game? There are two or three vehicles no distinct classes like the original Battlefront. Atleast call it star wars battle field and even then its still a terrible game in comparison and in general for the price of $60.

This game actually makes COD look like they're innovating. I just don't understand how people can drop their standards for a game so low to pay 60$-120$ for this "game". Don't expect the game to be heavily populated in a few months time.

EA once again shamefully exploiting the market. Seriously?! For a full priced game there is nothing to it. I've played iPhone apps with more content than this. Unless you are ADHD, you'll get bored with this after 5 mins. Giving this a zero to counter the ridiculous 10 scores. No way this game deserves more than 4.

Controls are more like an arcade shooter, another watered down and half-baked mechanic to the game. Whats worse that the arcade-like controls is the flight controls, I dont know what they were thinking or if they even tested them because theyre just awful. You literally with break your arm trying to turn you TIE fighter 180 degrees.

No Classes and for that matter, no class. This game is in a league of its own, actually its in the same league as SWtoR... Come to think of it, why is EA even allowed to make SW games anymore, can we get a competent studio to make us SW games, have they not abused the IP enough yet?

First off unless you're playing a more popular game mode you'll struggle to get into smaller ones which is a pain in the ass. But when you do find a match you're not going to have much fun, the way guns work is stupid since by the time you kill one person your guns overheated and his friend has killed you. This game is bargain bin fodder and as long as you don't have high expectations for the game you might salvage some enjoyment. Eh.

-You can't interact with the things in the map or go any place you should go(Like for example you cannot shoot Jawas for some reason but you can totally jump on top of the giant vehicle they own).
    -Lack of Weapons

So yes. This is just Electronic Arts just trying to take your money because they don't care about you. Buy a better game that was released in 2015 like Witcher 3 or Fallout 4. At least I can play those two without being killed instantly by some random ****

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don't let the title fool you; I liked the Prequels. It was merely a reference to the irrational, only partly meritorious hate that they receive.

I'm going to start with the absolute reality. I work for a living. Money is not something that falls out of the sky, and $69.99 plus tax is a significant amount. I charge $75.00 to tune a piano. This disc cost me the amount of an entire job. I was quite eager to get it. I had been looking forward to it. I love Star Wars. It's probably my favorite film series. I'm as immersed in the Expanded Universe as the typical Star Wars fan. That's why this game is so upsetting. If you've played the game, you know full well where I'm going with this: the hour of tutorials, and only about an hour of actual games if you're playing offline, and then having to pay an additional $49.99 if you want the content that really rightly should have come with the initial sticker price (minus the Battle of Jakku, which we'll be getting free: what a surprise!), and then having to pay for the privilege of playing multi-player.

But...I've been reviewing games for awhile on other forums, and I wouldn't be much of a reviewer if I just complained about the most glaring issues without even getting into the game. So, let us begin.

I bought Battlefront when I got my PS4. Fortunately, I bought the PS4 with the Disney Infinity 3.0 bundle, so I actually wound up paying the same but got a couple more games out of the deal (yes, that's how the math came out...I don't know what genius came up with that sales gimmick). So, I got it home, didn't have enough lines to hook up my PS4 to the internet, was too lazy to unplug my computer so I could enjoy online PS4 gameplay for awhile, so I just settled for the offline content for the time being.

STORY: 1/10 There is no story. You are literally replaying battles from the Original Trilogy, and one that wasn't seen, but alluded to, without the story. They are the battles of Hoth, Tatooine, Endor, and Sullust. Yep, that's all. You can go through them in tutorials, mission mode, or survival mode. It also comes with a screensaver that features C-3PO and R2-D2 arguing with each other.

GRAPHICS: 10/10The visuals in this game are absolutely stunning. Seriously, I wonder why the CGI in movies look so lousy when we have video games that look like this. Seriously, you could stare at these scenes for hours.

GAMEPLAY (PART 1: OFFLINE): 4/10 The tutorials are a good place to start as they teach you the different styles of gameplay and the controls. You can play either ground missions or starfighter missions. The ground missions are typical of first person shooters such as Call of Duty or Fallout. The aerial missions are also disappointingly common as well, with controls similar to just about any flight simulator. The system is straightforward: kill as many enemies as you can while dying and respawning a ridiculous amount of times. It's a style of gameplay conducive to multiplayer, but I've never really enjoyed it as it just feels like losing over and over again, even when the game says you won. It's very difficult to aim in ground missions, and I understand that the lack of an autolock is for realism, but at the very least, they could incorporate some kind of system to assist with aiming. It's not this hard to aim and shoot in real life, and it's an exceedingly frustrating system. You can focus on a target with L2, but this still isn't an autolock, so it doesn't lock; it just tightens controls so that your sights don't jump all over the place when trying to aim.

Aerial controls are another matter. L2 does act as an autolock, but an extremely tight one. If an enemy ship even slightly gets out of your sights, the autolock will break. It's still a very good autolock, and using it improves the game tremendously. Not using the autolock makes it virtually impossible to hit the target. Also, you have to hold down the L2 to use it, so your hand motions on the controller are extremely limited (not that it's a detriment, considering how limited your maneuverability is). Also, you have to maintain the lock when firing missiles until they hit their target (which isn't how missiles work in any reality). Dogfighting is very cumbersome.

The speeder bikes on Endor: piloting a Star Wars speeder bike is a fun thing to do in video games. It's a really hard aspect of gameplay to mess up, but somehow, Battlefront manages it. In the extremely overrated quest for realism, this aspect is an EPIC PHAIL. It's true that that the ground assault and aerial missions have controls that aren't stellar, but they're okay, which is just fine for merchandising gimmick game, even one as beautiful as this, but the speeder bikes in this game are simply a terrible experience, and it's all because of the high level of ultra-realism that this game employs.

Let me see if I can make this point: NOTHING KILLS A GAME LIKE ULTRA-REALISM!

Now, there are those that argue that ultra-realism is the best gaming goal. No, it's not. Sorry, but it just isn't. First, let's start with the obvious point: if we wanted realism, we wouldn't be playing video games. Next: games are supposed to be enjoyed. Even frustration and stress can be enjoyable to a certain degree, but when that's all there is, it stops being fun. How do we know it's not fun? Simple: I'm writing a review on Star Wars: Battlefront instead of playing it. Do you see what's going on here? If it were fun, I'd be playing it.

So, what's wrong with the speeders? Nothing, except that you are just going to die. If you manage to get your speed up, there is no thrill like in other games. You explode, die and respawn the second you hit something. Why was it made like this? Because life bars and hit points aren't realistic. So, if anything you touch kills you, unless you're going really slow, then whatever you hit just doesn't kill you as quickly. If you want to know who did speeders well, go back to N64 Shadows of the Empire. The controls and game play in the swoop level were pretty much like they are in this game: you even die the second you hit a rock wall. The difference? You don't die the instant you hit another swoop, and it's actually not as ridiculously easy to wreck as it is in Battlefront, and it's still pretty easy to wreck. That was my favorite level in that game. I played it over and over again. Battlefront actually made me hate speeders. This was terrible. Whoever designed the gameplay for the speeders should have been made to redo it. You know, patches have become a crutch and they've become an excuse to release a crappy game. If there is a patch that fixes the abysmal control on the Battlefront speeders, that's exactly what I am going to think: they were just more concerned with making a deadline than making a good game.

So, playing ever single mission, and survival mode after the tutorial, it took me two hours to finish the offline content. All of it. I played the entire offline game that I paid 70 dollars for in 2 hours. Every mission. I suppose I could go back and play the Dark Side, but that would only give me another hour of gameplay. 70 dollars of this. Oh, and sometime this month, we're supposed to get the Battle of Jakku for free. That'll be another 20 minutes per side of the Force. That's all you get for 70 dollars. Want more? Well, more is coming, but you have to pay for it. I got 100 hours of content in Metal Gear Solid 4 for 50 dollars, and I couldn't even get a 3 hour Star Wars game for 70. No, you do not get to play multiplayer for 70 dollars; you still have to pay for that, but that may be more on Playstation than EA, but you still can't play the multiplayer unless you pay the monthly fee for Playstation Plus. If you're not willing to do that, you're SOL. You could pony up the 50 dollars for a yearly sub, but why? Why can't I just play the damned game? Why can't I just get what I've already paid for?

GAMEPLAY (PART 2: ONLINE): 6/10 This is where the game is. There isn't much more in the way of content. There's a few more missions, but nothing truly remarkable. Everything is played against other players in versus combat. There's Droid Run, which is a King of the Hill style game in which you capture three droids before the opposing team does. There's Fighter Squadron, which is exactly what it sounds like, and my personal favorite (but that's only because the ground missions are so damned hard, again because realism). There's Walker Assault, which is the Battle of Hoth...again...this time with people other than you and the AI. There's Hero Hunt where you get to play all by yourself against everyone! And they're trying to kill you! And they're not trying to kill each other! Fun! Everything else is just variations on war: defend the cargo while stealing the other guy's cargo. Capture enemy supply drops. Or Supremacy, where you have to drive the enemy away (In other words, kill more of them.), or Blast, which is basically the same thing.

What these missions offer are credits and ranks that you can unlock new items and abilities with. You have very little choice in your in game appearance. You have to win the privilege to change your in game appearance. This helps to make the game fun. Also, you have enemy players that are obviously going to be better than you. The gameplay here in multiplayer is about the same, but it's much more fun than in singleplayer mode. You also begin to really see the limitations. Your ships can't do barrel rolls or loops unless you press the D-Pad, and you only get three special aerial moves. The down button on the D-Pad changes you from external view to cockpit view. In my opinion, this only makes the aerial combat more fun as instead of having maneuvers handed to you, you have to be creative.

I only wish the ground battles were as enjoyable, and the fact these missions feel more like a chore cannot possibly be more apparent in the fact that far fewer people seem to play them than the fighter missions, and it seems that there are a lot more awards and bonuses for playing the ground missions, or maybe I'm only seeing them listed since I don't get a list of bonuses for the aerial missions, but I still get them. That's telling. The fact that they display the fact that there a bonuses for the ground missions but don't make bonuses for the aerial missions apparent tells me that they know the ground missions are poorly done. It's very hard to kill and it's very easy to be killed.

On the plus side, in the Hero vs. Villain game, you get the opportunity to play as one of three main characters on each side. If you're not a troop from the start, you either get to play as Luke, Leia, or Han, or if you're on the Dark Side, Darth Vader, The Emperor, or Boba Fett. In one game, I played as Darth Vader and actually got into an epic lightsaber duel with Luke (I lost)...on top of the Millennium Falcon!!! I wish I recorded that! That was awesome! But, ahem...whatever awesomeness there is to be had in these ground missions doesn't redeem their overall tediousness. It's impossible to aim decently, even at close range, and any attempt to aim will surely get you killed. Good cover appears to be all over the place, but it's surprisingly useless. The levels are so open, no areas are defensible, and because of this, using cover is really pointless because there's no way to form a line and keep enemies from sneaking up behind you. So it really is, "die over and over again until the match is over", and that is a really depressing and unenjoyable style of gameplay.

The aerial battles are really the only missions that are really, truly fun, but there's only two, one that takes place in the four different settings the game comes with and Walker Assault, which is the Battle of Hoth.

MUSIC: All Star Wars stock music, a lot of it unrecognizable entries from other video games and audio books. Very high quality recordings that are quite nicely added to appropriate settings and situations.

REPLAYABILITY: 2/10 None for the singleplayer mode. This game gets very boring, very quickly. It's only marginally better in the multiplayer mode as each mission quickly becomes the same thing over and over again. The real fun is in fighting against other players that have managed to annoy you so much that you have got to get them just once. Sadly, this game is extremely overpriced. For aerial battles, you only get two missions, one set in three of the four settings (no aerial battles over Endor, so no, you will not be blowing up the Death Star II). You also only get 6 ground missions, each of them only in the four settings. The fact of the matter is, you only get a few hours of gameplay, each with goals that don't really interest you. Trust me: this is not the type of game you have to win before you're done.

All this game has to offer is fighting the same battles over and over again. There's nothing at stake. There's no ending to justify winning. You just fight the enemy until the mission is over and you either win or lose, and if it's multiplayer mode, you slowly get credits to get barely two or three dozen available upgrades that you can't even buy until you have achieved a high enough rank, and these upgrades aren't even that good. There are no upgrades for the fighter ships, and what you get for your ground missions are blasters that are weaker than what you're already using or are only good for certain conditions that aren't going to come up that often. You can get a thermal detonator or a grenade, and those are good, but upgrades include a function that for a brief time makes it possible to more easily aim your gun, just for example. There's nothing really worth it. The only thing you get are different appearances, and they are basically just a variety of the same dozen humans with a few different hairstyles. You have to put in dozens of hours of gameplay before you'll be allowed to play an alien (the highest being a Twi'lek at Rank 50). Think about it: days and days of playing the same missions over and over and over and over again just to be able to make your in game appearance as customizable as the game will allow. There are only a dozen or so blasters available, with the most useful one being available at Rank 4.

The graphics cannot redeem this game, and their score is negated by the shortcomings. Because of paying for multiplay and having to pay for additional content, I can't even recommend this game at bargain prices, and even if that wasn't an issue, the typical bargain price of 15 to 20 dollars is still quite high. This is the true 5 dollar bin game.

Gameplay: Played EA Access over the weekend for 10 hours and 2 issues. That netcode again and spawns are worse than battlefield. I have literally spawned in front of the enemy and spawn trapping can be done. The spawns will be a major complaint in the coming weeks along with hit detection. Just your typical EA/DICE multiplayer game.

Verdict: Rent before you buy or wait a month as EA usually cuts the price in half. Then you can snag it. If you do buy towards the full price, try buying used from gamestop. It is Battlefield with Star Wars, but it doesn't even do a good job of being a Battlefield clone. The offline is a joke (2 player splitscreen over two pretty easy and boring game modes). The online customization is limited compared to other online FPS, customizing your character consists of changing a hairstyle or skin color, and there is no gun customization. There are only a few maps, and they are mostly pretty dull and uninspired. I don't know why they cut the prequels out of this game, as that removes almost all of the fun lightsaber-wielding heroes (not that it matters, they did away with assault) and many of my favorite locations. Speaking of heroes, there are only 6, including Leia (over Chewbacca and Yoda) and their combat is 3 abilities that are not fun to use (I did enjoy lightsaber throw) and have long cooldowns. Battles feel small and characters die too fast. There are only a few fun game modes online, and those get boring.

They turned this game into an online FPS. However, it is greatly outclassed in fun and amount of content by most competitors. If you really want to try it out, rent it from Redbox or Gamefly first. This game was clearly rushed to be released before the movie to increase sales.

    The same old, same old.

The game is good, but once again EA rips out content to sell it to you as DLC. The game would have been great with all the content left, even worth the $60 or more. But we get a shallow game and are forced to buy DLC if we want the full experience.

The graphics are great. The sound is great. But as this is not a complete game, I cannot give it a complete score.

Okay now that we have that out of the way, for the review. I put in Star Wars Battlefront, played a survival and battle two of the four maps (YES, a WHOPPING FOUR), and then had to spend the next 20 mins wiping the **** out of the disc drive so I could play something that actually resembled a game. No doubt, the rest of the galaxy that we saw in the amazing games that preceded this one in the series will be available for purchase as DLC in a money-grab by Emperor EA. Darth DICE clearly looked at the original games of the series, said "Okay, this is really cool" and then proceeded to model the game after the aftermath of their next meal at Chipotle. I might have ditched my girlfriend to play this game, but at least I'm still getting screwed by EA.

I just kept going through the menu's trying to find where the game was, but clearly EA and DICE forgot to put it on the disc. Oh well, at least they have their money, clearly that's all this game was about anyway. I had to think for a moment whether I had to check the box on this review to have a spoiler warning, but honestly there is absolutely no content in the game to be spoiled.

It's sad that this game may be considered successful because EA and DICE pulled the wool over the fanbase's collective eyes and we all had to buy it to find out how crappy it is. We expected Luke Skywalker, and we got Jar Jar Binks. If you want to play Battlefront, break out the PS2, because this game is not Battlefront. Time to get back to Fallout 4, or literally anything else.

This game is getting returned ASAP. This whole idea of holding back content and/or releasing un-finished games is ridiculous. These games already cost $60 and paying more $$$ to get the rest of the game is a rip-off. Oh yeah, the vehicles controls are awful too! If you buy this game just right after launch, it basically means that you buy access into an early access of the game because it is not finished, and EA still dare to ask us 60 bucks for it !
Before launch they already confirmed that they will have 4 DLC's in the future, which are not actual DLC's, but part of the main game they just striped that will be soled separately. Just to milk the gamers of all their money !

They stripped everything that they could, to leave as little as possible so the players don't think they have been cheated, ask 60 bucks for it and sell the rest for even more profit. The game with all DLC's should be game they initially released for 60 bucks, but by that time you already payed easily over $110 ! I feel cheated and makes me never to buy anything again from EA. They basically doubled the price of their games very sneaky and most of the people just fail to see this and just want to complete their collection. It's not a collection ! It's the initial game that's striped down and they sell it back to you piece by piece. Nothing else.

This is very noticeable here in Battlefront ! How you might ask ? Well, here's why.
They say that they have so many planets and locations and modes to choose from to play. Well, that's wrong and overinflated ****

First off, the modes are basically standard for a game like this. One mode that is basically a trademark for this franchise is the walker assault that is not found in any other game. In rest, name a mode from any other game and you'll find it in battlefront. This is actually not a bad thing, but it's not very innovative because the only mode they have extra is basically Supremacy on the move.

And now to planets and locations. For each mode they have a different location, one on each planet. The problem is there are only 4 planets ! the planets are: Endor, Hoth, Sullust and Tattooine !
You will get bored very fast of only those 4 planets and craving for more different locations. They are pleasing to the eye and the graphics are good, even one of the best looking game this year, but it is just not enough to overlook the fact that this is not enough. They have just tried it to hard. The maps are very polished, no visual artifacts or major bugs, but this is to such an extend that they have put way to much time into those 4 planets that it does not matter anymore how polished they are. In the time they polished this 4 planets they could have used it to just add another two planets. This would have been much more worth than to just have 4. It gets very fast, very repetitive, and after just 2 or 3 days of playing i'm forcing myself to enter the game just to play it, just so i won't regret paying 60 buck for this game. I'm literally only playing just to get my money worth out of it until i'm sick playing it. This is not good for a game.

Now, to be fair, for each planet and mode there are different maps. There are about 3 maps for each planet for the different game modes. The problem is that although the map layout is different from one to another, they feel very similar altogether, and this is a bad thing. The most diverse locations are actually the interior of buildings.

We expected certain elements from a Battlefront game, and what we got just isn't enough to recommend to any Star Wars fan. I just tell them to go back to Battlefront 2 cause with that game they will have much more fun than with this one.

And now my biggest complain of this review, would be the fact the it is just a Battlefield game beneath it.
I have Battlefield and all those kind of shooter, and hoped they would not go that path, but they did.

I'm a gamer, but i don't play a lot of shooters. And if i do, i do it for the story or for the fun of it. If it has a 3rd person camera i'm more likely to play it.
But i'm also a very big Star Wars fan, and at each step of my life i had a SW game beside me to play it, from the early 90's.
So the first thing i wanted to do is jump right in a game and play with Darth Vader ... but wait ... whaaaaaat ?

So i can't select my factions, they distribute you to a random faction in each game, but to alternate you from each game. Why ? Just please tell me **** WHY !??? I'm imperial for life and the very first game i enter i'm a rebel scum ?! My first impression was that this was just ridiculous. I know that this was done to keep a balance, but at least give me chance to switch sides if the other team lacks people just like in counter strike ... but no ... i'm forced to play as this team. And don't you dare to leave this game, cause you didn't finish your rebel duties so they'll put you again as a rebel the next game.

Wow, 5000 characters ain't enough for me to say what i want. In the end, don't buy the game. If you did, ask for a refund !

Then I actually sat down and played, at first I was like this blows but i'll give it a shot. Now I release this isn't remotely close to the last two previous installments and they cut out logical key points in this game. For one in order to get inside a vehicle you don' go find a vehicle like in the last two. You hover over a magical token and then get transported to a whole other location inside the vehicle matching the token. Each vehicle can be destroyed in short of 5 hits (unless your in an aircraft then its two) This game ignores balancing weapons. A pistol can kill you in o shots in which a long range rifle takes several shots to accomplish. There is no story mode just a confusing battle of 40 players. No strategy involved just run up to a enemy and start tossing grenades. The number one thing that makes me uppset is there is no scaling system, no good players fight good players it is just a random slotted game to where new players could be pitted against seemingly maxed level players who just dominate. I have been on boh sides of that were the score can be 15-100 or 100-45. The re spawn system, is utter crap you spawn behind the enemy lines and flank the entire team adding the factor that your allies can spawn on you (which is bs) they erased the Control point spawns and choosing what CP you wish to spawn at. The terrain is difficult to tread over as many points in the game take several tries to jump over a simple log. When throwing any type of grenade if you are killed your grenade ceases to exist. It should at lease drop to the ground but if killed the game doesn't registering even thrown it. You can unlock every weapon in a span of one week and thats for an average gamer. There is no extended content just multiplayer scenarios that were thrown into the mix. I gave this game a 0 on the rating yes this game is fun (for about 4 hours) the graphics are amazing and the infantry controls are pleasing to play but it appalled me of how they created a bull S&it game and tried to cover it up with good graphics a amazing marketing promotion. The man who was in charge of there marketing division should get a promotion because with out him many people would not have even bought this game in the first place. I have so SO much more to talk about but this just gets me angrier and angrier thinking about it. My copy goes back today. Expand

The Multiplayer itself lacks any depth, the leveling system is a poor hook to entice you to play more.

As a fan of the Star Wars: Battlefront series loved aspects such as the Campaign story from Battlefront 2.
The 501st story was a brilliant addition to the solid foundation that Battlefront set before it. Conquest mode was an exemplar of what a non-story based game mode should have been.

However if you were looking for even a semblance of these fan favourite game modes within the newest incarnation you will be sorely disappointed.

    Summary:

    + Beautiful Landscapes and Scenery.
+ Entertaining enough until the novelty wears off.

    - Minimal Single Player Content.
    - Shallow Multiplayer Combat.
    - Ridiculous lack of Overall Content.
    - Disgusting focus on DLC.

    Conclusion
Don't waste your money. At best this game is worth 60% of its asking price.

Well EA, you've officially killed what spark I had for this new installment to the battlefront series. Now, I know the reviews for this game really are mixed, so I will give the best review I can for those looking to buy the game.

    (Positives)
-Visually, and soundwise, this game is a masterpiece. Putting on headphones and listening to the environment, the battle unfold around you is just amazing.

    -20 v 20. Finally. a real big team battle.

-Feels like you're really in the original trilogy

    (Cons)
-Four maps. They aren't incredibly big, either. Sometimes the spawns are so packed you spawn and die, like a 20 v 20 on Nuketown. It can just be chaos, and frustrating to play.

-"Buy the seasons pass to get the rest of this game" No. I was unimpressed i spent $100 to get this thing. I will not spend another $70 to get another hour or two of gameplay on each DLC,

-NO story mode. None, whatsoever. offline play consists of training (Tutorials) Survival mode (Easy as can be), and this failed multiplayer simulator. I was really hoping to hop on the couch with friends, my girlfriend, etc and be on a team of 18 other AI facing 20 AI. or even 12 v 12, if that hurts the rendering engine. But no. you get a 4v4, where you have to run and pick up the tokens once an AI dies, and you don't get to fight with your friends, just against them. Who on earth thought of that. EA, start to redeem yourself and fire those people.

-No replayability. I've tallied 3 hours, I'll probably never touch this game again. Rent it, borrow it off a friend, but heed my warning, and do not buy it.

-Online based. Like EA does, the servers will eventually go offline due to a new title being released, and it doesn't have the option to buy/manage your own server. Therefore, if you DO decide to put in hours, eventually, you won't be able to access it.

    (IN SHORT)
I gave this game a pity 2/10 just because of the graphics and sound. It's a very basic, very beta FPS, with not a lot of mechanics that hold up to any other FPS, let alone from DICE. You can definitely tell the tyrant that is EA got their claws into the crew, and cracked the whip hard on them. I am posting this to save people the money, and hopefully so EA can read this, like the thousands of others like it, and change the game, because this is exactly what is wrong with the gaming industry now.

For something that has been made by the makers of battlefield 3/4 etc this is no where near in gameplay. Weapons are all just point and spray/ very little burst needed only on long ranges, this game has nothing after a few hours for any serious gamer as it's far to easy, and if you have some skills as an FPS player you will find this a turkey shoot, so no real challenge. You can easily lvl once/twice each time you play one map, unlocks make no real difference.

Over priced, severely lacking in content, already traded in, completely disappointed as I'm a big fan of battlefield.

    - no Galactic Conquest
    - no Campaign
    - no server Browser
    - no VOIP
    - no Private Servers
    - no support for clan matches
    - no instant action ( online mods cannot be played offline with bots, you just have missions which gets boring extremely fast )
    - just 4 planets at launch compared to 18 ( + 6 space maps ) in SWBF2
    - max. player count of 40 players ( compared to 64 on SWBF2 PC TEN years ago
    - Cargo ( CTF ) is just 6 vs 6 players ( compared to 12 vs 12 on SWBF2 on PS2! )
    - No dodge roll ( every Battlefront veteran knows that was a core game mechanic )
    - 6 heroes compared to about 18 in SWBF2
    - AT-AT on rails
    - Tow-Cable shot doesn't have to be aimed, it's just pressing two buttons
    - Snowspeeder circling the AT-AT is on rails and you play a mini-game instead of flying it yourself
    - Infinite Grenades ( the game is an explosion spamfest )
    - Infinite ammo
    - Vehicle lock-on like there's no tomorrow
    - Infantry lock-on
    - Literally no skill gap

I could go on but you see where I'm going with this.
It utterly disappoints as a Battlefront game.
Especially compared to what Free Radical had envisioned for the franchise.

The game's graphics and sounds are amazing but they won't keep players interested for long.
EA will try to keep this game alive through DLCs.

Battlefront veterans have been waiting 7+ years on a sequel to the franchise.
    Then we get this.

So for a Battlefront game I can only give this game 0/10 points.

As a shooter it's slightly better, but still far from being worth the 120 bucks for the full game.
Especially compared to games like Battlefield or Counter Strike.

If you have a lot of money to spare, don't care about the degradation of the gaming industry if you support and buy this game, only play 1-2 hours in two weeks, then buying it might be an option.

For everyone else I recommend avoiding this game either until the price has dropped immensely, or not buying it at all.

I'm a huge Star Wars fan myself, you can tell that from my name but...
I will do what I must....
and refrain from buying this game at all.

    6. You are paying for graphics and music. Not for content.
    7. Surprise, you have to buy PS Plus to actually make this game worth buying cause to not pay for Plus, you get 4 single player maps.

    Pros:
    1. Playing 1st person shooter in star wars is always awesome

They worked lines from the movie into other characters' dialogue to the point where it sounds like the people in the game saw Star Wars recently and are reciting lines to each other like an inside joke, while fighting Star Wars battles. "We've captured the point. ALL TOO EASY!" Han Solo recites lines we've heard in a dozen other games, but only heard once in the movies. The game wasn't written to fit in within the SW movies, it was assembled verbatim from them. Worse, it was assembled from the Star Wars movies we've seen a hundred times. Conveniently rushed to shelves in time to see a new one hit theaters in a few weeks, but we don't see any of that one here.

The problem is that if you were to strip away the Star Wars theme from these battles and reskin it with pretty much anything else, the game is not good. Sure, it feels like the originals, but they're a decade old. There's no excuse for this game to be the least bit shallow in terms of content, but there it is. You're running around looking for glowing tokens like Crash Bandicoot looking for fruit.

It comes down to people who are happy with what we were handed here, and the people who see what this could have been. It could have expanded on things like Jedi Knight or KOTOR, could have had gameplay options and freedom like the Arkham games did for Batman (tell me using the grapple hoist line Luke used to grenade the AT-AT, but free to use anywhere creatively wouldn't have been amazing) but instead we got the standard EA movie tie-in treatment.

There is no dedicated chat system which makes coordinating in some of the game modes near impossible in pick up matches. Ariel combat is pretty lack luster. The leveling and economy system do not feel rewarding. For a $60 game and a $50 season pass for the "promise" of more content it is unacceptable. The game wasn't finished. If it wasn't for the Star Wars skin there would be no value to the game. It simply doesn't hold up to the likes of Battlefront or Call of Duty.

With the new film of the space opera saga finally on the big screen and the release of Battlefront's new sequel, both after a decade overdue, it is definitely the best time to be a Star Wars fan. The game itself is a dream-come-true for fans, and the Star Wars spectacle is strong in this one. However, if it is depth and longevity you seek... this is not the game you are looking for.
