Мне очень понравились предыдущие части, настолько, что я закрывал глаза на многие недостатки. Но эта игра недопустимо кривая. Абсурдный и глупый сюжет, слабый ии противников, нелепые анимации, все это сильно раздражает.

Mediocre. As much as I liked the secret tombs scavenging and the intro of the game in general, the plot proved to be weak, alot of clunky aniamtions, ugly npc with even worse facial animations not to mention a terribly cliche final battle. Next time give script writing to someone else.

A painfully average game. This reboot franchise already wasn't taking any risks, but this one is even more tamer somehow. It's enjoyable at points, but utterly replaceable and forgettable. I have trouble remembering the main story already. Honestly, this one is like a microwave burger. You would never choose it, but if you're really hungry, it'll do.

This game, quite honestly, just looked like a reskin of Rise of the Tomb Raider, doing more of the same from the last installment. Also, on side quests, Lara looks quite inanimate in the dialogues. But, there are definitely positives. The puzzles are once again stimulating and the third person combat is fairly fluid.

If you have played the previous two Tomb Raider then there is nothing new here other than location and Story. Everything else is same, tombs are equipment locked,if you dont own it you cant go ahead. Same set of skills to upgrade again. Same set of bonfire to upgrade and fast travel.

Putting credit where credit is due if you're a fan of Tomb Raider series this one will give you 10+ hours of pretty decent fun. The setting is great and it keeps all the good gameplay mechanics from the last instalments adding new ones on top of that.

On the other side: story is pretty mediocre and the pacing is really bad. I felt like the narrative just pushed me through the locations sucking out the joy of what tomb raider was about. I recall maybe one memorable moment from the game and the rest was pretty really shallow in comparison to the first game in series - I expected way more from the 3rd instalment, as the engine was already in place.

Although beautiful, all games seems to much set in a fantasy fictitious world. In Uncharted to compare with, you know what part of the world you are trekking trough, In Tomb Raider you are not. I think this is a thing with Japanese produced game, especially like Square who is a pioneer in making fantasy worlds. They have a hard time creating something authentic on that real level.
2: The game plays too nice to you. Its rolling out the red carpet for you and off you go. The game pretty much TELLS you constantly where to go, what to do, and what to press. Just dont bother playing this game on easy, because it is. Crank that difficulty up from the start
3: In terms of content, new features and other stuff, it has little. It borrows so much from the previous two games that it is scary. This game is falling hard into the Ubisoft/ Assassins Creed franchise where things are much of the same, just different packaged together.
The Instincts feature should have been removed. I think i pressed L3 about fifty thousand times while playing this trough. You get that dependent on it that you feel like cheating each time you press that L3. It totally breaks fluidity of the game and you get too addictive to use it..
4: Like the locations. The story also feels distant. And is not really that interesting. Come on, you enter a populated hidden city deep in the bush and everybody speaks perfect english? I lived in South America for a year and i met two people who could speak english.
5 Luckily this is the final game in this trilogy that wraps up the early years of Lara´s career. It needs to end now!

    So what is good?
Well, graphics are gorgeous, and there finally is more Tombs to raid, But boy do the rewards really sucks. but none of them are that challenging really. I always wanted this game to pay some more focus to what Lara is known for and that is raiding tombs.. I get it, 3 games in and Lara is starting to find her inner self rather thank ancient artifacts, Tomb Raider.. It is the title of the damn game anyway.
Controls are good, Maybe too much auto assisted.

Overall, i think this game needs a new direction, possibly a new developer. I think Square has exhausted this franchise enough.. Square Enix, who is known for RPG and Fantasy games, has a hard time authenticating this franchise. To me all three games has provided me with plenty adventure, but i feel that they all are set in a world i have a hard time to feel and attach myself too.
After three games in, they have not developed so much in terms of new features, movements, design, story and gameplay. It feels rehashed now and its time to end it. Pass on the torch and start something else.
I did not bother with a New Game Plus.. You play this game once, collect the **** for achievements and move on.

yes, this game is beautiful, but I never felt any empathy for characters, they sound and act superficial and artificial. The difficulty is stupidly bad managed on some scenes like the first "arena" with Yaaxil. When on hard mode you have good chances to be taken down within 2 seconds after the begining of the scene...
Maps are almost small and the corridor effect is quite strong.

I feel like the End of Laras Origin Story could've been so much better.

Climbing feels as clumsy as it felt back in Tomb Raider Legends, Enemy Paths are clearly scripted and the Stealth Mechanics are way too basic. I always felt like there's only one way to get through an area without alerting every enemy on the map and since there's a lot of combat/stealth in the game everything seems to be pretty linear for a semi Open World Game. The Worst part about the Gameplay is probably the Close Combat System, it only requires random Button Mashing instead of quick reflexes and seems to be a bit buggy. I often punched my way through several enemies without even dodging once.

I guess the game has a good amount of content but it just didn't manage to keep me interested long enough to play through the additional tombs and side Missions.

It's a pretty average Game overall but it just reminded me too often that i'd be better off playing Uncharted 4 instead, which is the better game in pretty much every aspect.

As a die hard tomb raider fan I really wanted to love this game. I found the world to be beautiful, the initial exploration alone with Lara to be enjoyable and refreshing. The beginning of the game is very dramatic and exciting when Lara takes the dagger, though it felt a bit rushed and left me with questions and wanting more context and back up story. My enthusiasm for the game started to diminish around the halfway point and just decline all the way to the end until I just wanted the game to be over already. So much towards the end was very boring, and the story was not that interesting. It felt kind of like wild goose chase at times and sloppy. The villages were boring and they reused the same character models for most of the villagers. The side quests in the villages were excruciatingly tiresome. It was definitely dark, Laras mood was dark, parts of the game were like a horror nightmare which imo was too much. I miss playing as Lara who is confident and fun. I miss being alone with Lara and vast places to explore where there’s not so many people and not so much talking. If you talk to a villager in this game it can feel like they go on for 5 excruciating minutes.... not interested! Theres nothing really to explore here either. Even on the highest difficulty its not hard to see where to go and almost impossible to get lost or wonder where to go. I only got stuck on one puzzle, and remember only one other puzzle being pretty amazing, most of them were too easy, didn’t even have to really think about what to do most of the time. I miss having to really use my noggin to figure out where to go and what to do with Lara! One really nice part was playing with young Lara, its really the only part of the game where you see a different side of Lara before the end of the game. It is my hope that coming out of this adventure Lara becomes the old Lara we all remember and love. If theres any redemption out of this dark painful story hopefully there will be a new series for Lara that will do the Tomb Raider franchise justice. Out of the 3 games in the reboot this one is definitely the weakest, and though I see what they were aiming for in growing Lara through a difficult time it was not very enjoyable to play as this tormented confused and struggling Lara. In this game Lara is a cold hearted killing machine, and at times feels more like a villain than a hero. After playing and enjoying the first 2 games of the franchise very much I was super excited for the 3rd game. Overall dissapointed. Expand

From a gameplay perspective everything is sort of ok with space for improvement being present in just about every aspect. Climbing mechanics don't feel tight enough and sometimes you end up with awkward camera angles which force you to take a guess at where you should be going. Combat is fairly rare which is good because the mechanics don't exactly feel great, a bit too floaty on consoles. Graphically the game holds up well, but once again - never really impresses. I did have odd lip sync problems and some fps drops but nothing too jarring.
The torture porn aspect of the game however is too much - it's funny when it happens to someone like Nathan Drake but when it's Lara you just feel bad - her character is written in a way that makes these situations feel like she is constantly being beaten down by everything around her.

Storywise Shadow Of The Tomb Raider ends up being derivative and unmemorable. It never presents us with anything new or interesting. You just go through the motions of a cliche "stop the prophecy" storyline. You can tell what's going to happen every step of the way and the ending fails to serve up any real closure for this part of Laras life. The only reason to keep going is because the protagonist is fairly sympathetic and you want to go on with the journey for her sake.

Not a bad game, but ultimately bland and forgettable.

I like how they're starting to bring Tomb Raider back to its origins by focusing more attention on puzzles and and exploration, but for me they're going about it in the wrong way.

The mechanics were okay but could be quite glitchy at times, there's definitely room for improvement there; also, the feel on the stick when moving Lara around felt a bit too light, like I was moving around a helium balloon. The combat was so-so. The story was pretty bland, could have been a lot more gripping. The graphics were pretty good, but for 2018 even they felt lacking in certain areas (the character models for example). The main highlights for me were the puzzles and some very beautifully designed environments, could tell how much time and effort must have gone into them.

And unlike Uncharted, you can't argue that the story being shallow is the point. The writers clearly tried here, and failed miserably. As she is now, Lara Croft is whiny, unsympathetic and overall just unlikable.

But this game does have moments when it shines. Particularly when it gives you a big open area with enemies and allows you to get stealthy. It can make you feel like a predator hunting its prey and it can be so satisfying pulling off a good stealth section. But the issue is the fact that scenarios like that are few and far between. Most of them come in the final quarter or so of the story. Besides that, exploration is fun and the puzzles in the tombs are very interesting to navigate. There were also some smaller moments in the main story that i found quite charming.

All the 10's and 9's you see are not true! I can't even remember how or why Lara was in Mexico the story is that boring & they try to tell you the plot in one or two sentences that you miss. Lara is a Miss Know it all, she's mean to Jonah, game doesn't even say why Jonah is tagging along in the first place - it's like he's her servant. I loved the other two games but I'm not impressed with this one. Stupid stuff like Lara calling out 'Is someone there?" if she hears a noise inside a dark, scary tomb. Right! We'd all do that, wouldn't we? Figures out the main baddie is the head of Trinity by overhearing one very short conversation between two other baddies and other unrealistic stuff like that. I'm still confused on that whole dagger thing and what it is? Story is very confusing and not explained well at all. Camera is really clunky as well on PS4 - fell numerous times just across a hanging wall because I did not have camera perfectly turned against the wall. The lighting sucks in many places making it hard to see what is around or where you are supposed to go. One section in the beginning almost made me quit the game as the forced button mashing device (QTE) would not work until I turned the game down to Easy! Tried about 20 zillion times before that. So far no interesting places - just a cave and a jungle. Big whoop! Also, when you find any treasure or stuff it's hard to tell what's in it as the icons are very small on screen. I'll keep going but I don't remember being this bored or pissed off by the first two games. Expand

An example: the only limiting resource in the Definitive edition is hardwood, there's corpses piling up everywhere but the only thing stopping you is a lack of wood. In a forest. It's like dying of starvation in a well-stocked supermarket, because you don't know how to open food packaging.

Another example: you just traversed a dangerous ravine, killed murderous animals, making leaps that would impress Circque de Soleil and you've reached the inner sanctum of a tomb - a chest beckons. However, you haven't found a lockpick yet, so you're just going to have to come back later. Even though you hand-crafted a knife you've used to skin over a hundred creatures and built an Olympics level bow from feathers and twigs. Fashioning a lock pick is beyond you though.

A game can only make you go "really? that's f***ing stupid!" so many times before it becomes a bad game.

It's great from a technical standpoint, but it doesn't offer much variety in terms of scenery. There are basically 3 locations: the initial Mexican village, a oil refinery, and a generic "jungle" with some settlements here and there. Combat is fine especially after unlocking some power-ups, but there's quite little of it. The game is filled with climbing sections, but be prepared because your grappling hook will randomly fail you for no apparent reason, and when playing on the hardest difficulty, that will mean having to replay long stretches with unskippable cutscenes over and over because the damn thing just won't hook to some place it's supposed to.

Also, gravity is basically non existing in this game. Lara jumps so high and so long that after a while it stops being funny and it starts being stupid. She will jump from hanging to a ceiling to another, and gravity will just stop gravitying because she just won't fall down. Except when you're throwing that damn grappling hook, because then she WILL.

Fast! Nervous, adrenaline, sometimes exploring , sometimes hope - all bad will end soon.

    This game is too boring.

As mentioned before Lara has no shadows in her face! The surroundings are okay but not breathtaking as other games which came out that year. Gameplay wise I have a few problems as well. Why does this game have to stream content? It happened already two times before another part of the story, that it had to stream the content, which meant at least 10 sec of freeze frame! I cannot recall anything like this in the prequels. It is still fun to play, but I expected a higher standard (at least as high as the last game or on the same standard as other competitors...). For the reboot games I played through the original Tomb Raider 2-3 times, Rise of the Tomb Raider twice, and this one I dont think I will ever come back to. I dont know what they were thinking. There were awesome moments in the game that took me back to the older tomb raider games, but those moments were few and far between. Long gone are the solitary days of the original Lara Croft exploring and tomb raiding all by herself. In this new installment there are so many other people and characters who rather than adding to it take away from the game. This game brought in elements of horror, and its very graphic. Much of the game felt like a horrific nightmare rather than the wonder of exploring and solving puzzles and finding artifacts. Its like they are trying to expose the player to more and more shocking and gruesome material with each tomb raider game. They must think, “Well we had the bodies hanging and wading through blood and bones in the first 2 games, lets have dismembered body parts laying all over and human sacrifice going on all around Lara to make the experience more shocking. And lets use all the blood from all the people getting slaughtered left and right for the puzzles. Cool!” And Lara doesnt seem to care one bit in some of the situations where people are being sacrificed. Lara lets out her anger and hatred, she shows a lot of emotion and becomes extremely violent herself, but she also loses some of her humanity. Lara is in a crisis during this game, doubting, being careless, trying to figure out who she is. My only hope really is that this game is setting us up for the Lara Croft we came to love (in a new series).. the sassy fun, sure of herself character where things weren’t so dark and gloomy. Honestly, This game is dark, overly violent and gloomy and to me for the most part was not fun at all. I just tried to finish to get it over with. Uncharted: The lost legacy feels more like Tomb Raider than this. The main character in the lost legacy feels more like Lara than the Lara Croft of Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I recommend playing that instead of this if you a a lover of the original Tomb Raider games. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, I’m an extremely huge fan of Tomb Raider, I do Lara Croft cosplay and I played every game more than one time, it’s my favourite serie of all time and I’m a fan since I’m 3. But this game really disappointed me, I loved Tomb Raider (2013), because it was a new kind of experience in the Tomb Raider serie, yeah tombs were laking but they were trying to shape Lara, to tell her what she went through to become that bad a** that we know. But I think that message got lost somewhere. Rise was good, but not amazing, I think the story was pretty weak and not memorable. For Shadow, nothing really work in my eyes. First the story is more bad than Rise’s story, second the glitches, third the character development is not there. Yes during the first half of the game they do kind of a good job to develop a bit Lara, but after it stopped. But the thing that made me the most mad is the fact that they used “the defining moment that she becomes the Tomb Raider” because I don’t know if it’s me, but I didn’t see the moment that she becomes the Tomb Raider. I was expecting Lara to become more strong emotionally, but she still cries and blame herself a lot:/, I was just expecting something more similar with the old Lara. Also I tried really hard to play the game more than twice but I couldn’t, I really get bored and it makes me sad because it’s Tomb Raider and it’s the first game in the serie that made me feel that way. I’m honestly scared with the future of the serie, let’s just hope that It’s good:( Expand

If we compare Shadow of the Tomb Raider with the first Tomb Raider trilogy (2013), we will see that the way Lara screams, the way she jumps and the way she walks are identical. Not to mention that her personality is very poorly crafted. In gameplay, she's a tough woman who uses a rifle, pistol, and coolly kills, but in dialogue and cutscenes, the way she talks and acts comes to seem like she's a fragile little woman. She looks like a simple university student who took a tourist trip in latin america. It's as if in gameplay she was one person and in dialogues and cutscenes she was another. I sincerely hope they work better on Lara Croft's nature and personality in upcoming Tomb Raider's projects.
A really nasty thing about the franchise's games are the bosses. A man who wants to take over the world or misuse a powerful relic of the gods. The boring eternal sameness. But in Shadow of the Tomb Raider it went a long way. The boss became a demigod on earth and had to take 300 arrows to die. Then comes Lara Croft and uses the power of the gods too and... aff.
I feel an immense disgust to see a franchise that could even win GOTY's being led to such negligence. Lazy Square Enix!

The characters are scripted, everything seems like a fairy tale, she talks to people as if she were a monk, once she kills like a serial killer, the scene in which she is attacked by the jaguar, remembering that it has the strongest bite of the felines and if gets up refusing help from his friend and still lifting a log, it's just p To show female power, it's just ridiculous and totally takes the immersion out of the game. Unfortunately nowadays there is this disgusting policy in movies, series and games. Almost everyone has to attack Christianity, the family, the male figure, and praise left-wing policies. While they are concerned with this, they leave aside the true essence of the game, which is to entertain, then the game has a horrible story, empty characters, a protagonist with a double personality, I miss Lara from Playstation One, where her focus was adventure and entertaining the player and not pass on a subliminal message of feminists and all the seals we see in games today. No more pre-orders, and I stopped buying at full price. There are other reviews saying Shadow is the best because it's most like the original games, with less emphasis on action and greater emphasis on tombs and puzzles. I disagree. This is a REBOOT series, and the first two reboot games were massively successful based on their new, fresh take, which included a greater emphasis on combat.

Yet, despite that Shadow took the less-combat route, that didn't have to be a deal breaker. They just had to make up for it in other areas. They didn't, and that's the problem with this game.

But where Shadow really went off the rails was by rug-pulling nearly all combat from the game and confusingly not removing other systems related to it. The skill tree, for example, is mostly composed of combat, gathering and hunting abilities. You hunt and gather to acquire crafting items to upgrade weapons or make potions that enhance combat. So all hunting, gathering and direct combat skills are of almost no value BECAUSE THE GAME HAS VERY LITTLE COMBAT.

This could not possibly have happened without a lot of copy and paste from Rise's source code. I can imagine the meetings: SENIOR DEV: "Well, that was already done in the last game and it works. Just copy it over."

JUNIOR DEV: "Uh... but we're de-emphasizing combat, so shouldn't we pare this down a bit?"

SENIOR DEV: "Did you hear what I said? Copy. And. Paste."

But you're thinking, "Fine, just ignore them, then." However, they're something like 70- 80% of all available skills! It's a total bait and switch. I spent several hours grinding skills, exploring, getting XP and investing in skills, only to realize nearly all of it was pointless.

At the very least, if Shadow wanted to switch focus they needed to massively improve exploration, puzzle-solving and platforming, and change the leveling and progression to support it. There could be multiple ways to solve a puzzle, for example but some approaches require certain skills. Shadow gutted a working part of the reboots (combat) and replaced them with slightly better tomb raiding. And then left a clunky, broken skill tree "hanging around" that just served to confuse and raise the hopes of all the fans of the previous two games.

If they wanted to make such a dramatic shift in gameplay back toward the originals, they should have saved it for the next reboot, not created this confusing, disappointing mess.

To start off, let me say I quite liked the previous two entries to the series. Unfortunately this third entry seems to have lost a lot of it's polish. Here are a few of the things I'm talking about. If these things frustrate you, then avoid this game:
1 - Too much insta-death. By itself, this isn't necessarily bad. After all, uncharted does this in action sequences as well. The problem here is that you can end up playing the same section dozens of time because the game has buggy controls, or because it doesn't do a good job of showing you where to go.
2 - Which brings me to the bad sign-posting. This game hides the path from you all the time, not just in puzzle sequences. You can spend minutes just trying to figure out where to go, only to see that the next ledge was just camouflaged for no reason.
3 - Voice acting. Lara is extremely monotone. To be fair, this was never strong in the series, but it gets really annoying since she'll talk every time you use survival instincts.
4 - Bad camera/controls. The camera will often rotate around to prevent you from actually looking at where you are supposed to move to next. Also, about 20% of the time the controls crap out so you can't use your climbing gear.
5 - Boring side quests - fetching, fetching, and more fetching.
6 - Broken combat. Even with aim sensitivity set to the maximum, your reticle moves slower than most enemies, making it just a game of luck that you were pointing the right way when attacked, because you'll never be able to adjust in time.
    7 - Boring story.

This game is so flawed that it really isn't worth the money. I wish I could get my money back. Spend your money on a better game instead.

Why is this getting 10s and 9s? Maybe the fans of the series are not seeing the flaws, or maybe despite the flaws, they find this game that much enjoyable nonetheless. As someone who has completed the first two games, I find this quite disappointing.

I mean, I see what were the developers going for. They put more "tomb raiding" and less shooting. And I don't know why people think this is a good thing. Why not more of both? There's no point of upgrading your weapons, you won't be using most of them. Tomb raiding side quest rewards you with combat moves or crafting materials which you rarely use.

The game mechanics are so similar to the previous games. The only thing new about it is that Lara can camouflage herself by smearing mud all over herself. Don't expect that you'd be doing this quite often, you won't. The encounters with enemies are cut down by 3/4, at least. So, if you're looking for combat as it was advertised, (like a predator) those moments will be brief and you won't miss it.

The animations are the same ones as the previous titles. I had hoped that they change the dodging animation. It's the same one since the first, crawling like an ape. If you're trying to get back to the roots, keep in mind that Lara is acrobatic, not a wild animal!

I'm not finished with the flaws. At some point in the game, you are required to be in a specific outfit to talk to people. And this makes my blood boils. It's so annoying going back and forth to the camp just to change clothes. I hated this mechanic. Who thought this was a good idea? This was the worst thing about this game.

I'm still not finish with the criticism. It's the story. I don't care that the characters are uninteresting. But it's about Lara. The first two game had moments where Lara just snapped, going berserk to seek out vengeance. And after that fallout, she had to deal with that transformation, by going all emotional. This is good and a believable transformation... the first time. There is no reason for this to happen again! She already killed a lot of people in the last two games. When are we going to see Lara Croft The Tomb Raider rather than Lara Croft "becoming" the Tomb raider?

The good thing about this game. I did enjoy the stealth section, despite it being so brief.

In what is easily the worst of the Tomb Raider reboot ("Tomb Raider" / "Rise of the Tomb Raider"), "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" somehow takes a major step -back- on its mechanics. It's awful to the point where you stop caring if you die because you don't really feel like it's really in your control, anyway. Pretty much every escape/run-from-the-impending-disaster scene will take multiple attempts, though somehow I managed to do the Oil Field escape without dying. Also, the scramble button is rendered almost completely useless in melee - you get hit most of the time, anyway.

For contrast, the game I played before this, "Assassin's Creed Odyssey," I played for 120 hours. in 1/3 or less of playing time, Lara died approximately 5x more than Kassandra did. Dying's part of any game, of course. After playing through the entire Uncharted series and all the other Tomb Raiders, I'm fairly convinced that no single person could take on an entire private militia by themselves and win in real life. And as frustrating as dying can be, players are generally ok coming back for more -if they're having fun.- The ridiculous final battle (where there are plenty of places to hide but it doesn't seem to matter because they see you no matter where you run/jump/climb) is one of those moments where if you weren't so close the end, you'd just quit out of spite. You just don't -care- to come back and do better/different.

Yausarl's review (currently listed as most helpful critical review) also hits upon some major flaws - combat content is greatly reduced, making the offensive upgrades and skills you acquire another "so what?" about this game. As an example, one of the trophies you can get is "20 headshots with arrows." I love the silent bow-play from the last two games, but those opportunities do not exist here unless you force it. You can't stay hidden for long. The AI is bad along the lines of "Assassin's Creed: Unity" where you'd be blended with crowds and the guards would still see you do things.

The tombs aren't even that fun. I TRIED not to look up walkthroughs, but in the 8 or so challenge tombs that exist, I needed a walkthrough for 3 of them. Two because I never would have found the path to the next step, and one I just never would have figured out, so not very satisfying there, either.

Finally, if you insist on playing this title, just set up the audio for English voiceovers. I get what they were going for with the immersion of having locals speak to you in their language, but the language spoken in the Hidden City, especially, is either the most inefficient language ever (like saying "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" as slowly as possible only for it to translate to "ok") or the subtitle is the extreme Cliff's Notes version thereof. Oh, and I would highly recommend "cheating" when you're setting the brightness and the gamma toward the "bright" side. I was honest about it, unfortunately, and battles with the "never miss" Yaaxil were pretty much a grind (refer to useless scramble mechanic above) as half the time I couldn't see them (even with Survival Instincts) or see where I was going when running for breathing room.

Positives - Camilla Luddington's voicework as Lara is once again quite good, despite the poor writing, and Carlos Leal as the self-righteous villain, Amaru/Dr. Dominguez, does his best to make his character multi-faceted. There's also a lovely cut-scene of a revenge-bent Lara emerging in silhouette from flaming water after she's been told to retrieve a friend's body and she's in full predator mode (currently top match on youtube with "lara flaming water"). But I have very little positive to say about the gameplay here. A huge disappointment after two fairly interesting predecessors. This feels like a thrown together money-grab because, goddammit, we've got to finish a trilogy!

The worst in the trilogy BY FAR.

The game is more of the same but with way less enemies and a lot more piss easy puzzle sections which feel boring to play through. Also the story feels very rushed, full of uninteresting characters and mcGufinns.
The game looks good, expecially the tombs, which makes raiding them better, but playing it feels like a chore, I stopped playing it about 70% through.

A monotonous stroll through the Peruvian jungle, with little action, clunky platforming, repetitive puzzles, a forgettable plot and an insufferable Lara that is just a shadow of her better times.

This game takes 2 steps back from Rise in terms of combat and rhythm and it's miles away from the 2013 reboot in terms of Lara's charisma and appeal.
Let's start with Lara, changing the face/body from Megan Farquhar to Camila Luddington was an atrocious mistake already made by Crystal Dynamics on Rise under the excuse of "allowing better motion capture" although we all know the reason behind it. Now it seems that was not enough and Eidos uglyfied her even more, messing with her body proportions and designing the most hideous clothing ever present on a video game, clothing that is mandatory during long sections of the game even if you have purchased DLC outfits! This results in a Lara with 0 charisma, super weird facial expressions, no agility or gymnastic skills, it feels like handling a space marine, and an utterly monotonous voice acting. On top of that they give her a dislikeable and selfish personality. The legendary iconic Lara is gone.

Eidos also stripped most of the combat from the game mechanics, making 2/3 of the skill tree useless, but forgot to replace it with something else apart from collecting garbage to upgrade the weapons that you will rarely use. The writing is atrocious and the history has a lot of obvious plot holes. The enemy AI is also very poor, being most of the time just lemmings that can be taken care of one after another on a corner.

On the positive side, I liked the dark tone of the game a lot, like Indy and temple of doom, some scenarios are gorgeous, especially a couple of tombs and the executions are brutal.. On PS5 there is a free upgrade to play it on 4K and it offers impressive moments, except the NPCS, they still look consistently terrible. Another nice feature is that if you have save data of the previous Cristal Dynamic tomb raider some outfits will be automatically unlocked, even the 2013 PS3 Lara skin.

I recommend playing it on "one with the jungle" difficulty and doing all tombs and side quests, this makes combats more frequent and gives a reason to upgrade Lara's skill tree, also removes the white painting on the platform sections.

In summary, if this would be a new franchise I think it would deserve around a 6-7 score but being a Tomb raider with circa 100M budget (the 3th part of a trilogy!) the result is really disappointing. As a fan that has purchased and completed every tomb raider since 2006, even the isometric ones, it leaves me really worried about Lara's future.

So the basic storyline of all TR games is Lara gets into the tomb, destroys it, then slays all the Trinity archeologists (because she should be the only one to get it) and then slays all the indigenous people too. And has zero remorse. And she isn't even sacrificed in the ending to be redeemed (I'm not sure she could be redeemed, but it would make at least some sense to try).

Wow. These game developers are trying to steal Uncharted formula by just copying gameplay elements w/o adding any good writing to the mix. And it sucks so badly.

Single. Misstep. And water levels, too! This game takes every feasible misstep for a Tomb Raider game. For the first time since the series was rebooted, you can see the true ugly roots of TR in this new adventure: the incredibly stupid plot, the incoherent script, the ludicrous premise, the straight up fear of any sort of change to the character of Lara or the world she inhabits. Then there's the ugly, dark, muddy environments, the regurgitated gameplay and setpieces that fail to excite - and even when they do excite, they feel UNEARNED, like the crowning of the Queen of the Damned scene, for example.

The first two got by on a plot of less is more, environmental and inferred story telling whilst here... it's as much magic god lasers and bright lights as the series ever had, making any semblance of mystery disappear in the cackle of the players' laughter. And don't get me started on the damn towns - who thought THAT was a good idea?! Because you saw them in Uncharted 4?! Uncharted 4 has them as a momentary setpiece, a backdrop to make the world feel lived in, not going on fetch quests for children and buying top of the line guns from tribal merchants! What were you thinking?!

Technically, the game is a true marvel - highly detailed environments, effects, particles, mud, facial expressions, tesselation - all to display a world that is just plain, unimaginative, flat, monochrome and, for a VERY large part of the game, way too dark to even play through properly without squinting and falling to your death in the dark. Yes, I adjusted my settings, but apparently nobody playtested this on a OLED television.

Mechanically, the controls are wonky, with the highly detailed and diverse terrain never quite meshing with the characters floating on it, or through it, resulting in a lot of accidental deaths, slips, and plain getting stuck - but mostly, just not looking quite as convincing as in previous games.

Finally I want to make one suggestion to Crystal Dynamics - find the person who said "diving sections are a staple of the older Tomb Raider games", and boil that person alive until done. It's 2019. It has NOT been long enough for game designers to forget that EVERYBODY HATES WATER LEVELS.

Let me repeat that - DO. NOT. PUT. DIVING. LEVELS. IN. YOUR. GAMES. It's not a fun mechanic, it was not fun in the 90's, it wasn't fun in the 00's, and it's not fun now. It's dead for a reason. Do not bring it back.

This game is bland, boring, ugly, and a massive disappointment.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider should leave us wanting more from the rebooted Lara Croft game, but with some clunky controls and a lazy combat system, what saves the game from being below average are beautiful visuals, fantastic puzzles and tomb layouts along with true adventuring. It’s as mixed up of a bag as one can get.
